Macrotylushenryi, a new species of Pelargonium-feeding Cremnorrhinina from South Africa (Hemiptera, Miridae, Phylinae, Cremnorrhinini)

Macrotylushenryi is described as a new species from South Africa. This new taxon is recorded as feeding on species of Pelargonium (Geraniaceae) in the Western Cape. Documentation is provided in the form of diagnosis, description, habitus photographs, scanning electron micrographs, illustrations and images of genitalic structures, detailed distributional data, host plant information, and images of hosts and habitats. Morphological traits are similar to species of Macrotylus Fieber from the Northern Hemisphere, but coloration is substantially variable, and the structure of the male genitalia is distinctive.

New genus and two new species of Hyaliodini from the Philippines (Miridae, Deraeocorinae)

Philicoris, a new genus of the mirid subfamily Deraeocorinae, tribe Hyaliodini, is described from the Philippines. New species Philicorismayon sp. n. and Philicorispalali sp. n. from the island of Luzon are documented with photographic images of the dorsal habitus and male genital structures.

Systematics and host-plant associations of the Palassocoris complex (Insecta : Heteroptera : Miridae : Orthotylinae), a monophyletic suprageneric group of long-headed Australian Orthotylini, and the description of five new genera and 10 new species

The Australian plant bug family Miridae is hyperdiverse in Australia, including a remarkable radiation of undescribed species belonging to the tribe Orthotylini. This study includes a comparative morphological and phylogenetic study of a group of orthotylines, mostly associated with woody shrubs. Parsimony-based analysis of 49 morphological characters was undertaken, resulting in the recognition of a monophyletic supraspecific group with elongate heads, the Palassocoris complex, as well as three monophyletic genera with multiple species, and two monotypic genera. Five new genera (Austroloxops, gen. nov., Harpemiris, gen. nov., Hypospicula, gen. nov., Palassocoris, gen. nov. and Wallagootacoris, gen. nov.) and 10 species (Austroloxops juriensis, sp. nov., Harpemiris hibbertiaphila, sp. nov., Hypospicula banksiaphila, sp. nov., Hypospicula finkensis, sp. nov., Palassocoris elongatus, sp. nov., Palassocoris emuensis, sp. nov., Palassocoris jambrecinae, sp. nov., Palassocoris samphirensis, sp. nov., Wallagootacoris schwartzi, sp. nov., Wallagootacoris tasmaniensis, sp. nov.) are described as new to science. The Palassocoris complex was found to be the sister-group to two species of the Lattinova complex, the latter previously assigned to the tribe Austromirini, rendering the Orthotylini as paraphyletic. Systematics, biodiversity, biogeography, and host associations of the Miridae (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cimicomorpha)

The Miridae, a hyperdiverse family containing more than 11,020 valid described species, are discussed and the pertinent literature is reviewed. Diagnoses for the family and subfamilies are given. Color habitus photos are presented for representatives of most of the 35 currently recognized tribes. Key morphological character systems are discussed and illustrated, including pretarsal structures, femoral trichobothria, external efferent system of the metathoracic glands, male and female genitalia, and molecular markers. A historical comparison of tribal classifications and the most up-to-date classification are presented in tabular form. A brief history of the classification of each of the eight recognized subfamilies is presented. Distributional patterns and relative generic diversity across biogeographic regions are discussed; generic diversity by biogeographic region is presented in tabular form. Taxonomic accumulation graphs are presented by biogeographic region, indicating an ongoing need for taxonomic work in the Southern Hemisphere, and most particularly in Australia. Host plant associations are evaluated graphically, showing high specificity for many taxa and a preference among phytophagous taxa for the Asteridae and Rosidae.
