Abstract
COVID-19 is a world disaster. In response to COVID-19 quarantine, stress, anxiety, and depression may easily develop which negatively affect immunity and decrease the patient's response against the COVID-19 virus. This study investigated the effect of an integrated intervention combining cognitive-behavioural stress management (CBSM) and progressive muscle relaxation (PMRs) on immune biomarkers and disease severity and progression in patients with COVID-19 and the period to which these changes last. Thirty patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 were randomly distributed into intervention and control groups. The intervention group performed an integrated intervention combining CBSM and PMRs. There were three outcome measures including blood immune markers, salivary immunoglobulin A, and Wisconsin scale (WIS). Two-week post-intervention, there were significant differences between groups in the WIS total score, Leucocytes, Lymphocytes, Interleukin-6, and Immunoglobulin-A. While there were non-significant differences between both groups in Interleukin-10 and TNF-α. The significant differences between groups in the WIS total score, Leucocytes, Lymphocytes, Interleukin-6, and Immunoglobulin-A significantly continued 1 week as a follow-up. This study concluded that performing an integrated intervention combining CBSM and PMRs for 2 weeks significantly increases immune biomarkers mainly Leucocytes, Lymphocytes, Interleukin-10, and Interleukin-6 along with S-IgA. Also, this protocol significantly decreases disease severity and associated stress, anxiety, and depression; and enhances the quality of life in patients with COVID-19. The study was retrospectively registered with NCT04998708.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Untargeted, high-throughput proteomics methodologies have great potential to aid in identifying biomarkers for the diagnosis of periodontal disease. The application of such methods to the discovery of candidate biomarkers for the resolution of periodontal inflammation after periodontal therapy has been investigated. MATERIAL AND METHODS Gingival crevicular fluid samples were collected from 10 patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis at baseline and 1, 5, 9 and 13 weeks after completion of mechanical periodontal treatment. Clinical indices of periodontal disease, including probing depth, recession, clinical attachment level and bleeding on probing, were recorded at baseline and 13 weeks. Samples were analyzed using an online liquid chromatography-nanoelectrospray-hybrid ion trap-Orbitrap mass spectrometer. Spectra were processed with the PILOT_PROTEIN proteomics software suite. RESULTS Clinical parameters were significantly improved 13 weeks after treatment (Wilcoxon signed ranks test, P < .05). From the substantial number of identified proteins, a small subset was extracted by filter methods that included temporal pattern matching, logistic function fitting and mixed-integer linear optimization. This subset includes azurocidin, lysozyme C and myosin-9 as candidate biomarkers prominent at baseline and alpha-smooth muscle actin as prominent 13 weeks after treatment. Cross-validation studies yielded average predictive accuracy and area under the curve of 0.900 and 0.930, respectively. CONCLUSION High-throughput proteomic analysis can contribute to identifying endpoints of periodontal therapy. These candidate biomarkers should be evaluated for clinical efficacy.

Abstract
Three studies examined humor and adjustment to stressful events. In Study 1, patients with fibromyalgia syndrome ( N = 22) reported on mental and physical adjustment, social interaction, and reappraisal of their illness. Dispositional humor was associated with reduced distress and fewer physical symptoms. Study 2 ( N = 109) examined undergraduates’ reports of stressful events. Dispositional, self-enhancing, affiliative, and self-defeating humor showed direct effects on distress, which were mediated by social interaction and reappraisal. Moreover, dispositional and aggressive humor showed stress-buffering effects. Study 3 ( N = 105) examined undergraduates’ adjustment to the September 11, 2001, attacks at 1 and 3 months postattack. At T1, affiliative humor showed a stress-buffering effect on distress. Social interaction mediated the relation of self-enhancing humor with reduced T1 distress, and mediated relations of aggressive and self-defeating humor with greater distress. Relations of T1 dispositional and self-defeating humor to changes in T2 distress were mediated by reappraisal.

Abstract
AIM This paper is a report of a review conducted to identify, critically analyse and synthesize the humour literature across a number of fields related to health, health care and nursing. BACKGROUND The humour-health hypothesis suggests that there is a positive link between humour and health. Humour has been a focus of much contention and deliberation for centuries, with three theories dominating the field: the superiority or tendentious theory, the incongruity theory and the relief theory. DATA SOURCES A comprehensive literature search was carried out in January 2007 using a number of databases, keywords, manual recursive searching and journal alerts (January 1980-2007) cross-referenced with the bibliographic databases of the International Society of Humor Studies. An inclusion and exclusion criterion was identified. REVIEW METHODS A narrative review of evidence- and non-evidence-based papers was conducted, using a relevant methodological framework with additional scrutiny of secondary data sources in the latter. Humour theories, incorporating definition, process and impact constituted a significant part of the appraisal process. RESULTS A total of 1630 papers were identified, with 220 fully sourced and 88 included in the final review. There is a dearth of humour research within nursing yet, ironically, an abundance of non-evidence-based opinion citing prerequisites and exclusion zones. Examination of physician-patient interaction and the humour-health hypothesis demonstrates that use of humour by patients is both challenging and revealing, particularly with regard to self-deprecating humour. CONCLUSION Nurses and nursing should adopt a circumspect and evidenced-based approach to humour use in their work.

Abstract
This review highlights consistent patterns in the literature associating positive affect (PA) and physical health. However, it also raises serious conceptual and methodological reservations. Evidence suggests an association of trait PA and lower morbidity and of state and trait PA and decreased symptoms and pain. Trait PA is also associated with increased longevity among older community-dwelling individuals. The literature on PA and surviving serious illness is inconsistent. Experimentally inducing intense bouts of activated state PA triggers short-term rises in physiological arousal and associated (potentially harmful) effects on immune, cardiovascular, and pulmonary function. However, arousing effects of state PA are not generally found in naturalistic ambulatory studies in which bouts of PA are typically less intense and often associated with health protective responses. A theoretical framework to guide further study is proposed.

Abstract
AIMS To assess and compare the self perceived work related stress among emergency department (ED) and general ward (GW) nurses, and to investigate its relation with salivary IgA and lysozyme. METHODS One hundred and thirty two of 208 (63.5%) registered female ED and GW nurses participated in the study. A modified mental health professional stress scale (PSS) was used to measure self perceived stress. ELISA methods were used to determine the salivary IgA and lysozyme levels. RESULTS On PSS, ED nurses had higher scores (mean 1.51) than GW nurses (1.30). The scores of PSS subscales such as organisational structure and processes (OS), lack of resources (RES), and conflict with other professionals (COF) were higher in ED than in GW nurses. ED nurses had lower secretion rates of IgA (geometric mean (GM) 49.1 micro g/min) and lysozyme (GM 20.0 micro g/min) than GW nurses (68.2 micro g/min, 30.5 micro g/min). Significant correlations were observed between PSS and log IgA and lysozyme secretion rates. OS, RES, and COF were correlated with log IgA and lysozyme levels. CONCLUSION ED nurses, who reported a higher level of professional stress, showed significantly lower secretion rates of salivary IgA and lysozyme compared to GW nurses. Salivary IgA and lysozyme were inversely correlated with self perceived work related stress. As these salivary biomarkers are reflective of the mucosal immunity, results support the inverse relation between stress and mucosal immunity.

Abstract
Secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) in saliva and cardiovascular activity were measured at rest and in response to three film extracts varying in affective content. Subjective ratings of film impact confirmed a priori assumptions; the humorous film was rated as funnier than the other two films, the didactic film as more boring than the other two films, and the exciting film as more exciting and more stressful than the other two films. The films elicited distinct patterns of cardiovascular autonomic activity. The exciting film provoked changes characteristic of beta-adrenergic activation: increased systolic blood pressure (SBP); heart rate (HR); cardiac output (CO); and shortened pre-ejection period (PEP). The didactic film had little impact on cardiovascular activity. While an increase in total peripheral resistance (TPR) occurred, the humorous film was largely notable for a reduction in beta-adrenergic drive, as evidenced by reduced CO and a lengthening of PEP. In contrast to previous research reporting a rise in sIgA particular to humorous exposures, the sIgA secretion rate, although enhanced by exposure to the films, did not vary with film content.

Abstract
Salivary immunoglobulin A (IgA) and lysozyme have been studied as possible biomarkers of stress. This study examined the stress levels among female nurses in various units and the relationship between these stress levels and salivary IgA and lysozyme secretion. One hundred ninety-five (43%) of 457 eligible female nurses from surgical wards/operating theaters (SURG), medical wards (MED), and outpatient clinics/day-surgery theaters (OPD) completed a self-administered questionnaire. From this group of 195 nurses, 124 provided a salivary sample accumulated over 5 minutes. Stress levels were assessed with a ten-point Stress Assessment Score (SAS) for Asians and a direct question on perceived life stress. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and lyso-plate methods were used to determine salivary IgA and lysozyme levels. Forty-five percent of SURG, 35% of MED, and 17% of OPD nurses scored at least four points on the SAS. SURG nurses had the lowest IgA secretion (geometric mean; 95% confidence interval [CI]) rates (43 micrograms/min; 36 to 51 micrograms/min). The other groups had significantly higher salivary IgA secretion rates: MED (96 micrograms/min; 80 to 116 micrograms/min) and OPD (77 micrograms/min; 60 to 98 micrograms/min) Findings for salivary lysozyme (microgram/min) were similar; SURG (9 micrograms/min; 6 to 13 micrograms/min) MED (19 micrograms/min; 12 to 28 micrograms/min) and OPD (16 micrograms/min; 9 to 28 micrograms/min). The salivary IgA (Spearman's r = -0.22, P = 0.01) but not the lysozyme (Spearman's r = -0.01, P = 0.9) secretion rate correlated negatively with SAS. Nurses working in various units under different conditions experienced dissimilar levels of stress. Salivary IgA, but not lysozyme, correlated inversely with self-reported levels of stress. It may thus be a potential biomarker in future studies on stress.
