Abstract
OBJECTIVES Insulin resistance is associated with increased levels of IGF-1. IGF-1 has been shown to increase the risk of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. The Triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) is a marker of insulin resistance. Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between the TyG index and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Two tertiary care academic hospitals. METHODS The study included 53 patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (Group 1) and 48 healthy volunteers (Group 2). Laryngeal cancer patients were divided into two groups according to their stage. Stages I and II were named Group 1A, and Stages III and IV were called Group 1B. The TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting Triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting plasma glucose (mg/dL)/2]. The effect of the TyG index on laryngeal cancer was investigated on the parameters of sex, age, body mass index, and stage of the disease. RESULTS There were no significant differences in age, sex, and BMI between the groups. The TyG index of group 1 (4.75 ± 0.33) was significantly higher than that of group 2 (4.59 ± 0.15). The TyG index value of group 1B (4.84 ± 0.31) was significantly higher than both group 1A (4.61 ± 0.32) and group 2 (4.59 ± 0.15). There was no significant difference between the TyG index values of group 1A (4.61 ± 0.32) and group 2 (4.59 ± 0.15). CONCLUSION The TyG index may be a promising laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma biomarker. People with a higher TyG index may have a higher incidence of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and a higher risk of progression.

Abstract
Objective This study aims to investigate the correlation between triglyceride–glucose index (TyG) and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methods A total of 102,061 permanent residents of Tianjin, China, aged 35–75 years were surveyed. A questionnaire, physical examination, and blood tests for biochemical markers were conducted for all subjects. The risk of CVD was judged based on the results, identifying the population with a high risk of CVD. TyG was calculated for all subjects who were then grouped into TyG quartiles. The correlation between TyG and the detection rate of subjects with a high risk of CVD was analyzed using the chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation analysis. The cut-off points and the magnitude of the predictive effect of TyG in determining a high risk of CVD were identified by calculating the TyG through analysis of the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve. Results The surveyed population consisted of 39,598 males (38.8%) and 62,463 females (61.2%). The average age was 55.84 ± 10.27 years. A statistically significant difference in the incidence of a high CVD risk between subjects in the four groups divided by the TyG levels was identified (p < 0.01). Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that TyG was correlated with all risk factors for CVD (p < 0.01). The maximum Youden’s J statistic for determining the high risk of CVD was found at a TyG of 9.04 (specificity 0.575, sensitivity 0.754). The area under the ROC curve was 0.780 (confidence interval [CI]: 0.777, 0.783, p < 0.01). Conclusion TyG index is closely related to the aggregation of cardiovascular risk factors and is correlated with the judgment results of the screening population’s high risk of CVD, suggesting that more attention should be paid to the identification and control of multiple risk factors in the population with significantly elevated TyG.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the correlation between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and coronary artery disease (CAD) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and identify the risk associated TyG index in different subgroups.A total of 1665 eligible inpatients (CAD with T2DM group [n = 680], non-coronary artery disease without T2DM [n = 985]) were consecutively enrolled in this study. They were assigned into 4 subgroups: middle-aged, elderly, male, and female subgroups. Receiver operating characteristic curve diagnostic test and a logistic regression model was established to analyze the risk factors for CAD with T2DM.TyG index is an independent risk factor for patients with CAD with T2DM. The risk of increased TyG index is greater in the middle-aged and male subgroups than in the elderly and female subgroups, respectively (all P < .05). The specificity and the positive predictive value of the TyG index is greater than the sensitivity and the negative predictive value, respectively (all P < .05).Increased TyG index is a new independent risk factor for CAD with T2DM, and its risk is higher in the middle-aged and male subgroups than in the elderly and female subgroups, respectively. TyG index may be used as a clinical predictor of CAD with T2DM.

Abstract
Hypertension and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index are both closely associated with insulin resistance, respectively, while the role of TyG index and the association between TyG index and obesity on hypertension risk remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the association and interactive effect of TyG index and obesity on hypertension risk. There was a population-based cross-sectional survey in Henan, China. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the association between TyG index and the risk of prehypertension and hypertension. The area under curves (AUC) of TyG index and joint indicators (TyG index and obesity indices) was calculated to assess the predictive ability of hypertension. The additive interaction was computed to evaluate the interactive effect between TyG index and obesity. Compared with the lowest TyG quartile, participants in the highest quartile had an increased risk of prehypertension (odds ratio (OR): 1.69, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18-2.44) and hypertension (OR: 2.53, 95% CI: 1.80-3.57). The AUCs of joint indicators were significantly higher than TyG index in predicting hypertension (all P < 0.01). Presence of higher TyG index enhanced the ORs of waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and percent body fat (PBF) from 3.50 (95% CI: 2.55-4.80) to 6.51 (95% CI: 4.81-8.82), and from 3.88 (95% CI: 2.78-5.42) to 7.09 (95% CI: 5.11-9.84) with significant additive interaction on hypertension, respectively. Increased TyG index was significantly associated with a higher risk of prehypertension and hypertension in Chinese adults. Besides, our results also demonstrated the interactions of TyG index and WHtR and PBF on hypertension risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence shows potential reduction in oxidative stress after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. However, this outcome can vary, with postsurgery time, type of markers significantly altered, and possible relation with cardiometabolic risk markers, thus indicating the need for more studies. OBJECTIVE To evaluate changes in oxidative stress and its relation with cardiometabolic risk markers in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients after 3 and 12 months postsurgery. SETTING Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil. METHODS All data were collected before surgery and after 3 and 12 months postsurgery. Biochemical data were collected, and insulin resistance was determined by homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, triglyceride/glucose index, and triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Additionally, catalase, superoxide dismutase, ferric-reducing antioxidant power, nitric oxide, carbonylated protein, and malondialdehyde were analyzed. RESULTS After 3 months postsurgery, excess weight loss was 46%. It increased to 82% after 12 months. We observed a significant reduction in levels of serum insulin, triglycerides, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, triglyceride/glucose index, and triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol indices and nitric oxide, throughout the entire study period. Also, reduced levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, serum glucose, malondialdehyde, and superoxide dismutase were observed at 3 and 12 months postsurgery compared with baseline. On the other hand, reduction in ferric-reducing antioxidant power occurred only at 3 months postsurgery. We also observed that nitric oxide was positively correlated with triglycerides, percent excess weight loss, total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride/glucose index. CONCLUSION Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is able to reduce oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and improve lipid profile after 3 and 12 months postsurgery. Furthermore, changes in oxidative stress and cardiometabolic risk markers are correlated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) is a tool for insulin resistance evaluation, however, little is known about its association with coronary artery disease (CAD), which is the major cardiovascular death cause, and what factors may be associated with TyG index. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association between the TyG index and the prevalence of CAD phases, as well as cardiovascular risk factors. METHODS The baseline data of patients in secondary care in cardiology from Brazilian Cardioprotective Nutritional Program Trial (BALANCE Program Trial) were analyzed. Anthropometric, clinical, socio-demographic and food consumption data were collected by trained professionals. The TyG index was calculated by the formula: Ln (fasting triglycerides (mg/dl) × fasting blood glucose (mg/dl)/2) and regression models were used to evaluate the associations. RESULTS We evaluated 2330 patients, which the majority was male (58.1%) and elderly (62.1%). The prevalence of symptomatic CAD was 1.16 times higher in patients classified in the last tertile of the TyG index (9.9 ± 0.5) compared to those in the first tertile (8.3 ± 0.3). Cardiometabolic risk factors were associated with TyG index, with the highlight for higher carbohydrate and lower lipid consumption in relation to recommendations that reduced the chance of being in the last TyG index tertile. CONCLUSION The TyG index was positively associated with a higher prevalence of symptomatic CAD, with metabolic and behavioral risk factors, and could be used as a marker for atherosclerosis. Abstract
The high prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVD) determines the need for early detection and correction of key markers of cardio-metabolic risk (CMR). This prophylactic direction is closely related to metabolic syndrome (MS) based on the concept of insulin resistance (IR). At the same time, IR is the first link in the pathogenesis of T2DM and is a recognized risk factor for atherothrombosis. Therefore, early diagnosis of IR is of practical importance both for the detection of early disorders of carbohydrate metabolism (DCM) and prognosis of T2DM, and cardiological risk. Alternative indicators have been proposed for evaluating IR with the inclusion of lipid and anthropometric parameters, the diagnostic and prognostic significance of which in terms of CMR (DCM and CVD) has been evaluated in randomized clinical trials in comparison with the HOMA-IR index and clamp. The TyG index (calculated on the basis of plasma glucose and triglycerides) is consistent with the phenomenon of glucolipotoxicity with subsequent metabolic disorders in target organs. Its derivatives are proposed: TyG-WC (TyG / waist circumference) and TYG-BMI (TyG / BMI). Apply LAP indices (lipid accumulation index) and VAI (visceral obesity index), as well as TG / HDL (TG / HDL). Their ethnic and gender differences were revealed, attempts were made to calculate the cut-off points for these indices.
