PROMOÇÃO DO ALEITAMENTO MATERNO NO SISTEMA PRISIONAL A PARTIR DA PERCEPÇÃO DE NUTRIZES ENCARCERADAS

Breastfeeding behind bars: Experiences of incarcerated mothers in the Spanish penitentiary system

This research aims to analyze the breastfeeding experiences of incarcerated mothers in the prisons of the Spanish penitentiary system. Additionally, it explores whether these mothers have perceived practices related to obstetric violence during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. An exploratory-descriptive study was conducted using a qualitative approach and a critical ethnographic method. Fieldwork, including participant observation and semi-structured interviews, was carried out between December 2021 and April 2022. The study involved 30 adult women from Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe, and Latin America, all serving sentences with their infants in Mother Units located in the Spanish cities of Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville. The main findings highlight the need for penitentiary policies with a gender and feminist perspective. These policies should aim to eliminate severe inequalities and discriminations faced by incarcerated women while protecting the basic rights of both mothers and infants.

O cuidado à criança no contexto prisional: percepções dos profissionais de saúde

RESUMO Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, com abordagem etnográfica realizado com 15 profissionais de saúde do sistema prisional, por meio de entrevistas semi-estruturadas, organizadas e tratadas pelo software Nvivo 12, e efetuada análise de conteúdo na modalidade análise temática. A pesquisa relevou três categorias temáticas: ‘Os cuidados cotidianos à criança na prisão’; ‘Os cuidados de manutenção nas intercorrências infantis’; e ‘Os desafios para prestação dos cuidados à criança no cárcere’. Na prisão, portanto, o cuidado à criança se torna um desafio para o profissional de saúde, devido à falta de estrutura física, à escassez de insumos materiais, ambiente de violência e à tensão que influenciam na prestação do cuidado integral à criança que vive no contexto do cárcere materno. Por isso, faz-se necessária a implementação da Política Nacional de Atenção à Saúde da Criança no Sistema Único de Saúde com desenvolvimento de ações que favoreçam a melhoria do cuidado à criança em consonância com a Política Nacional de Atenção Integral à Saúde das Pessoas Privadas de Liberdade no Sistema Prisional.

Breastfeeding booklet in prison institutions: initiative for promotion, protection and support

ABSTRACT Objectives: to understand the use of the booklet on breastfeeding in prison in times of COVID 19 by managers and health professionals who work with pregnant and breastfeeding women deprived of their liberty. Methods: this is a descriptive, exploratory research with a qualitative approach, carried out from March to December 2020. Thirteen professionals who work in Brazilian prison institutions participated in the study and answered a semi-structured interview. The data obtained were submitted to content analysis. Results: the use of the booklet proved to be strategic in facing the barriers resulting from the pandemic and offered updated information and guidelines that are indispensable for the continuity of breastfeeding within the Brazilian prison system. Final Considerations: nursing participated in the organization of educational material as a tool for the promotion, protection and support of safe breastfeeding within the institutions of the prison system that serve pregnant and lactating women deprived of liberty.
