Abstract
Background The incidence of visual impairment(VI) in older people is gradually increasing. This review aimed to summarise the evidence on existing health management models and strategies for older adults with VI to improve health-related and vision-related quality of life (QoL) in older people. Methods Based on the framework of the scoping review methodology of Arksey and O'Malley (2005), a comprehensive literature search of relevant literature published between January 2010 and June 2022 in PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang database, Sinomed and the grey literature. Results Finally, 31 articles were included. The health management model had a multidisciplinary team low vision rehabilitation model, medical consortium two-way management model, low vision community comprehensive rehabilitation model, medical consortium-family contract service model, screening-referral-follow-up model, and three-level low vision care model. The health management strategy covers nine aspects, the combination of multi-element strategies is feasible, and network information technology has also shown positive results. Conclusion In the future, under the Internet and hierarchical management model, we should provide demand-based personalized support to rationalize and scientifically achieve hierarchical management and improve resource utilization efficiency and eye health outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide a comprehensive assessment of the strategies studied to date that focus on improving glaucoma medication adherence. METHODS A systematic review of the literature was conducted in MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase (Elsevier), and Scopus (Elsevier) from inception to March 1, 2021, of publications describing a device or strategy used to improve glaucoma medication adherence. RESULTS 42 studies described by 50 papers were included. Five categories were identified: reminder systems, medication simplifications, behavioral change programs, education, and alternative engagement strategies. CONCLUSION Most studies (40 of the 42) addressed the question of improved adherence directly, with 26 finding improved adherence. Notably, 14 examined the clinical effects of the intervention, either in terms of intraocular pressure (IOP) or visual fields. Only three found an improvement in IOP. None demonstrated a between group difference in visual field progression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Nonadherence to a long-term therapy, including diabetes mellitus, is one of the global problems that need to be overcome. This study aims to determine the effect of pillbox use and education by pharmacists toward medication adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus in a Primary Health Care Center in Mataram. METHODS This research was an experimental research design with pretest-posttest with control group design. The study was conducted from October to December 2019 at Tanjung Karang Primary Health Care Center, Mataram. Measurement of adherence was done using the Adherence to Refill and Medication Scale questionnaire. The higher the score, the more nonadherence the patients. Patients were divided into three groups, which were the control group, educational intervention group, and pillbox and educational intervention group. Each group consisted of 11 patients. RESULTS Patients' medication adherence increased from 19.54 (SD 4.37) to 15.18 (SD 2.64) in the education and pillbox intervention group (p=0.004). Whereas, in the education and control group, the adherence did not provide a significant change (p>0.05). Based on the difference in adherence scores, it was known that what contributed to changes in compliance was refilling medicine and intentional nonadherence in taking medicine subscale (p=0.024). CONCLUSIONS Providing education and pillbox done by pharmacists at the Primary Health Care Center can increase adherence to the therapy of diabetes mellitus patients. Pharmacists at the Primary Health Care Center can use the intervention model to improve the level of adherence of patients with chronic illness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: 50% of prescriptions dispensed in the United States are not taken as prescribed, leading to approximately 125,000 deaths and 10% of hospitalizations per year. Incentives are effective in improving medication adherence; however, information about patient perceptions regarding incentives is lacking. OBJECTIVES: To (1) explore perceived appropriateness of incentives among patients prescribed at least 1 medication for chronic hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, diabetes, and/or asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and (2) examine associations between perceived appropriateness and patient characteristics. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was administered via Qualtrics Panels to US adults taking at least 1 prescription medication for a chronic condition. The results describe patient preference for financial or social recognition-based incentive, perceived appropriateness of adherence incentives (5-point Likert scale), self-reported adherence (Medometer), and demographics. Analyses included descriptive statistics with chi-square and independent t-tests comparing characteristics between participants who perceived incentives as being appropriate or inappropriate and logistic regression to determine predictors of perceived appropriateness. RESULTS: 1,009 individuals completed the survey. Of the 1,009 total survey participants, 933 (92.5%) preferred to receive a financial (eg, cash, gift card, or voucher) rather than a social recognition-based incentive (eg, encouraging messages, feedback, individual recognition, or team competition) for medication adherence. 740 participants (73%) perceived medication adherence incentives as being appropriate or acceptable as a reward given for taking medications at the right time each day, whereas 95 (9%) perceived incentives as being inappropriate. Remaining participants were neutral. Hispanic ethnicity (OR = 0.57; 95% CI = 0.37-0.89); income under $75,000 (OR = 0.48; 95% CI = 0.28-0.84); no college degree (OR = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.37-0.96); and adherence (OR = 0.99; 95% CI = 0.98-0.99) were significant predictors. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients perceived incentives as appropriate and preferred financial incentives over social recognition-based incentives. Perceived appropriateness for medication adherence incentives was less likely among certain groups of patients, such as those with Hispanic ethnicity, lower annual income, no college degree, and higher levels of adherence. These characteristics should be taken into account when structuring incentives. DISCLOSURES: This study was funded by the Auburn University's Intramural Grants Program. Abstract
INTRODUCTION As the world population ages, glaucoma is becoming an increasingly significant cause of blindness. A key component in the management of glaucoma is the use of prescribed medications and the adherence to treatment. However, there is evidence of low adherence to prescribed medication in chronic diseases, such as glaucoma. This study aims to explore the level of medication adherence, self-efficacy, social support and health literacy among the patients with glaucoma and to determine if there are any correlations between them. The ultimate aim is to use the information to develop an educational programme for patients with glaucoma at a later stage. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a mixed-methods study which includes two stages: a descriptive study (stage 1) and focus group discussions (stage 2). SAMPLE Patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension, using at least one kind of drops, from two ophthalmology clinics. Selected measures include: The Glaucoma Treatment Compliance Assessment Tool, The European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire, The Glaucoma Medication Self-Efficacy Questionnaire and The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Two focus groups will be used for the collection of qualitative data, aiming to enrich the study with the patients' experiences. The data will be analysed with SPSS, using descriptive and inferential statistics for stage 1 whereas content analysis will be used for the data from the focus group discussions (stage 2). ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Permission to conduct the study was received from the National Bioethics Committee and the board of management of the two ophthalmology clinics. All participants will be informed fully on the purpose and methods of the study. Consent forms will be signed and at any time participants will have the right to withdraw. Confidentiality and the protection of data will be respected at all times.

Abstract
Glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness, affects >70 million people worldwide. Lowering intraocular pressure via topical administration of eye drops is the most common first-line therapy for glaucoma. This treatment paradigm has notoriously high non-adherence rates: ranging from 30% to 80%. The advent of smart phone enabled technologies creates promise for improving eyedrop adherence. However, previous eyedrop electronic monitoring solutions had awkward medication bottle adjuncts and crude software for monitoring the administration of a drop that adversely affected their ability to foster sustainable improvements in adherence. The current work begins to address this unmet need for wireless technology by creating a “smart drop” bottle. This medication bottle is instrumented with sensing electronics that enable detection of each eyedrop administered while maintaining the shape and size of the bottle. This is achieved by a thin electronic force sensor wrapped around the bottle and underneath the label, interfaced with a thin electronic circuit underneath the bottle that allows for detection and wireless transmission to a smart-phone application. We demonstrate 100% success rate of wireless communication over 75 feet with <1% false positive and false negative rates of single drop deliveries, thus providing a viable solution for eyedrop monitoring for glaucoma patients.

Abstract
The costs for glaucoma care are rising worldwide. The main reason is the increase of life expectancy and the increasing variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutically options by implants and devices. How can we influence the increase in costs? Does a relationship exist between the rising costs and the behavior of patients especially in regard to adherence of patients to the prescribed therapy? Are there ways to improve adherence? The costs of a disease can be estimated by adding the direct costs and the indirect costs deriving from the disease. Many studies have been looking at the direct costs, for example, the costs of diagnostic tests and treatment modalities. Unfortunately, not many studies investigated the indirect costs, i.e., costs related to the need of a person to accompany the patient during his or her outpatient visits or the costs deriving from loss of work capacity because of the disease itself or the outpatient visits. Adherence or the synonym compliance has been discussed since many years, and it seems that it remains a major problem in the management of many chronic diseases. Despite all efforts to improve adherence, the adherence rate in chronic diseases such as glaucoma or arterial hypertension remains considerably low. One of the main factors in improving adherence is raising patient's awareness of the disease by providing general understanding of their disease. Other important factors are simplified therapeutic regimens, e.g., fixed combination drops, sustained drug release techniques, or new glaucoma surgical procedures with a more favorable risk profile.

Abstract
Glaucoma is a chronic, debilitating disease and a leading cause of global blindness. Despite treatment efforts, 10% of patients demonstrate loss of vision. In the US, > 80% of glaucoma cases are classified as open-angle glaucoma (OAG), with primary open-angle (POAG) being the most common. Although there has been tremendous innovation in the surgical treatment of glaucoma as of late, two clinical variants of OAG, normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) and severe POAG, are especially challenging for providers because patients with access to care and excellent treatment options may progress despite achieving a “target” intraocular pressure value. Additionally, recent research has highlighted the importance of nocturnal IOP control in avoiding glaucomatous disease progression. There remains an unmet need for new treatment options that can effectively treat NTG and severe POAG patients, irrespective of baseline IOP, while overcoming adherence limitations of current pharmacotherapies, demonstrating a robust safety profile, and more effectively controlling nocturnal IOP.
