Abstract
PURPOSE Globally, many children with physical disabilities (CwPDs) are excluded from their education and social life, mainly due to stigma and its effects. However, information on disability stigma is scarce in low-and middle-income countries like Ethiopia. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to explore the lived experience of stigma from the perspective of CwPDs and their caregivers in northwest Ethiopia. METHODS The study incorporated a constructivist grounded theory approach. Data were gathered through observations, in-depth interviews, and key informant interviews. Inductive and iterative grounded theory techniques were used to code and categorize data through constant comparison. FINDINGS The study showed that CwPDs are bullied and talked about, subject to pity, socially excluded, and held in contempt at home, in their neighborhood, and at school. They live in fear and uncertainty and struggle with stigma. These factors affect their emotions, social relationships, and educational activities. CONCLUSIONS This study makes theoretical and practical contributions to understanding and addressing disability stigma and can help to introduce inclusive education policy, school practice, and disability advocacy. The study results highlight the need for disability awareness-raising programs, interventions for empowerment, and informing disability policy and practice.

Abstract
Given the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in many decision-making processes, we investigate the presence of AI bias towards terms related to a range of neurodivergent conditions, including autism, ADHD, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We use 11 different language model encoders to test the degree to which words related to neurodiversity are associated with groups of words related to danger, disease, badness, and other negative concepts. For each group of words tested, we report the mean strength of association (Word Embedding Association Test [WEAT] score) averaged over all encoders and find generally high levels of bias. Additionally, we show that bias occurs even when testing words associated with autistic or neurodivergent strengths. For example, embedders had a negative average association between words related to autism and words related to honesty, despite honesty being considered a common strength of autistic individuals. Finally, we introduce a sentence similarity ratio test and demonstrate that many sentences describing types of disabilities, for example, "I have autism" or "I have epilepsy," have even stronger negative associations than control sentences such as "I am a bank robber."

Abstract
BACKGROUND The factors influencing home-based cardiac rehabilitation exercise adherence among patients with chronic heart failure remain unclear. This study aimed to explore predictors of home-based cardiac rehabilitation exercise adherence in these patients, based on the theory of planned behavior. METHODS This theory-driven, cross-sectional study used convenience sampling to recruit patients with chronic heart failure undergoing home-based cardiac rehabilitation. Instruments used included the Home-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Adherence Scale, the Multidimensional Self-Efficacy for Exercise Scale, the Perceived Social Support Scale, and the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart. Multivariate linear hierarchical regression analysis was employed to examine the factors influencing exercise adherence. RESULTS A total of 215 patients with chronic heart failure undergoing home-based cardiac rehabilitation participated in the study. The overall score for home cardiac rehabilitation exercise adherence was (48.73 ± 3.92). Multivariate linear hierarchical regression analysis revealed that age (β=-0.087, p = 0.012), education level (β = 0.080, p = 0.020), fear of movement (β=-0.254, p < 0.001), perceived social support (β = 0.451, p < 0.001), and exercise self-efficacy (β = 0.289, p < 0.001) influenced home-based cardiac rehabilitation exercise adherence. In the second model, fear of exercise explained 23.60% of the total variance, while perceived social support and exercise self-efficacy explained 26.60% of the total variance in the third model. CONCLUSION This study found that home-based cardiac rehabilitation exercise adherence in patients with chronic heart failure was suboptimal, and identified its influencing factors. Targeted interventions addressing these factors, such as tailored education, support, and addressing fear of exercise, may help improve exercise adherence.

Abstract
Saudi Arabia, through its Vision 2030, seeks to enhance the Quality of Life (QoL) of all individuals who live there. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the of QoL of students with disabilities in a Saudi university (Shaqra University) as a case study. Although this study was conducted in one university, many students with disabilities around the world are facing the same systematic practices in many universities (Carballo et al., 2021; Khayatzadeh-Mahani et al., 2020). Therefore, this study used qualitative research by interviewing all students with disabilities who are registered at the university for the academic year 2022-2023. In addition to these 11 students with disabilities, 2 senior university administrators who have a direct relationship with the services provided to these students were also interviewed. The overall outcomes confirm that the QoL for these students is very low due to multiple factors that were discussed in detail.

Abstract
PURPOSE To understand physiotherapy and physiotherapy services from the perspectives of adults with cerebral palsy (CP). METHODS Twenty-two adults with CP (15 women, 7 men), from across the UK, aged between 23 and 51 years, Gross Motor Function Classification System I-V, were interviewed about their experiences of physiotherapy and physiotherapy services. Participants were recruited through advertisements placed with relevant national organisations. The interviews were transcribed and analysed according to principles of Reflective Lifeworld Research. A second analysis examined the findings in relation to Donabedian's structure-process-outcome framework for healthcare quality. RESULTS Specialist services for adults with CP were described as scarce, unknowable, complex and disconnected through the life course. Specific problems included; structural dimensions such as access to and organisation of services, signposting to services and access to expert advice; process dimensions including a lack of attention to patients' perspectives, needs, priorities, experience and expertise; and outcome dimensions for example the negative impact of physiotherapy service configurations on health, well-being and quality of life. CONCLUSION Study findings support grassroots calls to radically improve and increase physiotherapy services for adults with CP. Accessible and widely available specialist services, information and advice across the life course would do much to address unmet need. Implications for RehabilitationAdults with CP found it difficult to identify and access specialised physiotherapy services and to obtain information and advice to help them best manage their condition.Adults with CP need physiotherapy services throughout the different phases of their lives, to meet their present needs, and to anticipate and, where possible, to prevent future needs.Participants highly valued person-centred physiotherapy and we recommend this approach is adopted as the foundational philosophy guiding physiotherapy services and interventions for adults with CP.More specialist physiotherapy services are urgently needed to meet the needs of adults with CP in the UK.

Abstract
There has never been a stronger call for authenticity in health professions education than this moment in time. The health inequities laid bare by the COVID-19 syndemic (a concept that describes the clustering of SARS-CoV-2 infection and disease by political, social, and economic factors) compels health professions educators to learn how to best engage in, sustain, and deepen conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within our learning environments. Health professions curricula should address such concerns through explicit faculty training programs in dialogue models of communication. In this commentary, I propose that medical improv can help refocus health professions training to the humanistic values of empathy for others and respect for multiple viewpoints. Medical improv refers to teaching methods that adapt improvisation principles and exercises to enhance professional competencies in the health professions, such as communication. I describe a training series implemented at one institution to prepare faculty facilitators to engage in conversations about DEI in a discussion-based core course on the social determinants of health for first year medical students called "Humanity in Medicine." Key elements of dialogue training, including examinations of identity and positionality, caretaking and team-making, and conversations with a skeptic, are viewed through the lens of improv exercises as a pedagogy in communication. I report on facilitator and medical students' positive response to facilitator training and the Humanity in Medicine course. Potential next steps towards a formal evaluation of the method, and outcomes assessments of the use of improv in health professions training are discussed.

Abstract
Ethnic minority group members' responses to their prejudicial treatment can take several forms. One involves identity concealment (e.g., 'passing'). In order to understand such a response, we must explore participants' understandings of the interactional context before them, their meta-perceptions of the identity others ascribe to them, and the varied meanings that identity concealment/non-disclosure may have in that context. Our analysis of interview data (N = 30) obtained with Roma in Hungary reveals diverse forms of, and motivations for, the concealment of their Roma identity. Some participants reported examples of proactive identity concealment, others reported more reactive forms (in which they went along with others' mistaken assumptions concerning their identity). The motivations for identity concealment (whether proactive or reactive) included the desire to: secure material benefits; avoid conflict; take pleasure from seeing others' assumptions blinding them to the reality before them; test (and expose) majority group members' attitudes; allow themselves opportunities to experience the world in new ways. Our analysis highlights the importance of social identity researchers recognizing the diverse motivations for ethnic identity concealment: From the actors' perspective concealment is not always assimilatory, and in some contexts can be experienced as empowering.

Abstract
Background: Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) may experience an increasing impact of their disability on daily life and this may interfere with their citizenship. Citizenship is a layered construct. Next to formal and theoretical significations, and civil rights acts such as the UN Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the meaning of citizenship is formed by the person themselves. The present study aimed to gain insight into what citizenship means for adults with CP 40 years or older and what is needed to support and pursue their citizenship to improve person-centered rehabilitation which can facilitate this process. Methods: Adults with CP (>40 years) without intellectual disability were recruited from medical records of a large rehabilitation center to participate in a qualitative study using the photovoice method. Participants were asked to take photos of objects or life situations that constituted citizenship for them; these photos were then the prompts for the semi-structured interviews that were held face-to-face at their homes. Background and clinical characteristics were gathered using a short face-to-face questionnaire. Data were analyzed through inductive thematic analysis. Results: Nineteen adults participated [mean age (SD) 57.8 (9.4) years (range 44-79), six men]. From the analysis four themes emerged: (a) Meanings of citizenship; (b) Citizenship: Facilitator and barriers; (c) Paradoxes of support and participation; and (d) Future. Furthermore, next to the ability to participate in society without restrictions, sense of belonging was reported to be an important aspect of "meanings of citizenship." The physiotherapist was perceived as an important health professional to maintain physical activity and deal with the impact of aging with CP on daily activities. Complex healthcare and support services regulations and aging affected citizenship negatively. Conclusion: Middle-aged and older adults with CP view citizenship as the ability to participate and belong in society. To optimize their citizenship the challenges and individual needs must be seen and supported by person-centered rehabilitation and support services. Simplification of complex healthcare and services regulations can further improve citizenship.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Caregivers of children with cerebral palsy can best help their child if they understand the disorder and the correct terminology. OBJECTIVE To assess caregiver understanding of cerebral palsy. DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study from a large tertiary medical center in Boston, to assess understanding of the term cerebral palsy by primary caregivers of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. All cases were obtained from hospital electronic medical records. Telephone surveys were conducted. Caregiver understanding of cerebral palsy was assessed by open-ended responses (50%) and success in answering true/false questions about cerebral palsy (50%). PARTICIPANTS Primary caregivers of children 18 years and younger with cerebral palsy. RESULTS Thirty-three percent of caregivers denied ever being told that their child had cerebral palsy. Most caregivers identified cerebral palsy as a brain problem (79%), lifelong condition (73%), often caused by a perinatal (60%) or gestational (40%) insult. Fifty-two percent knew that cerebral palsy was nonprogressive. Sixty-two percent of caregivers believed they had a good, very good, or excellent understanding of cerebral palsy, whereas the investigators found 69% of caregivers had a good, very good, or excellent understanding of cerebral palsy (P = .006). Most caregivers rated very good or excellent the setting where cerebral palsy was discussed (58%), the explanations provided (55%), and the amount of time spent (45%), yet using a Pearson correlation coefficient, most important was the time spent (r = 0.53). CONCLUSIONS Following discussion with their child's physician, most primary caregivers of children with cerebral palsy have a good, very good, or excellent understanding of cerebral palsy. Most critical to a good understanding of cerebral palsy was the time spent in explaining the diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The family-centred approach is fundamental in the therapeutic process of children with cerebral palsy (CP), and the increased competence of parents about therapeutic devices, especially orthoses, can facilitate its implementation, thus intensifying the benefits that this device provides. The aim of this study was to understand the perception of mothers of children with CP in relation to their children's ankle-foot orthosis. METHODS This is a qualitative study using thematic content analysis technique. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews from 24 mothers of children with Levels IV and V of CP according to the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), who were attended at a philanthropic rehabilitation centre. RESULTS Three categories were identified from analyzing the interviews: benefits of the orthosis, the orthosis in the child's daily life and 'What if it were like this?' CONCLUSIONS According to the mothers' perceptions, the ankle-foot orthosis improved their child's mobility. The orthoses are used in different contexts in the child's daily life, and the mothers pointed out suggestions regarding personalizing the orthosis with different colors and patterns, increasing comfort and facilitating the way in which the device is placed.

Abstract
The nature of the link between identity and action is a fundamental question for social science. One focus in psychology is how actions like seeking help are implicated in matters of identity. This paper presents a discursive psychology study of identity and help in social interaction. Drawing on a corpus of nearly 400 recorded calls to a victim support helpline, I analysed how participants oriented to the link between identity and help. With attention to epistemic, deontic, and affective relations between participants, I analysed how identity was demonstrably relevant and procedurally consequential for building and interpreting help-seeking requests. Participants displayed an understanding that seeking help from Victim Support necessarily implicates identity. Callers' identities as victims or clients rendered their help-seeking accountable and invoked identities for call-takers as representatives of a support service. The findings show that identity and help are mutually constitutive. Seeking help constituted callers' identities as victims; and their identities as victims constituted their requests for help. I suggest that analysing identity and help in social interaction provides evidence for the mutually constitutive link between identity and action.

Abstract
Aim Developing a theory explaining how public health nurses accomplish and adapt counselling in lifestyle habits to decrease obesity in people with mobility disability. Design Empirical research ‐ qualitative. Method Classic grounded theory with face‐to‐face interviews, 2017–2018, using inductive approach to understand public health nurses' intervening experiences with obesity patients. Results To initiate the conversation emerged as the main concern meaning having difficulties initiating conversations about obesity with patients. Public health nurses’ facilitators to communicate lifestyle changes emerged as the pattern generating the theory, which consists of the categories; person‐centeredness in the situation, experience and knowledge, strengthening conditions, access to other professionals and prioritization in everyday work. Conclusions Public health nurses hesitate to raise topics of obesity in patients with mobility disability. They advocate increased integration with lifestyle changes in everyday work including multi‐professional cooperation. The implication is testing the emerged theory at primary health care centres. Impact Obesity is more common in people with mobility disability than in those without. There is a need to understand how public health nurses adapt counselling in lifestyle habits. Public health nurses hesitate to talk about obesity with patients in fear of offending anyone. Public health nurses did not distinguish between patients with or without mobility disability. Several facilitators could be helpful initiating conversation with the patients. Public health nurses need more time and resources to facilitate conversation with patients with mobility disability to counsel lifestyle changes.

Abstract
Disabled people are said to experience stigma because their embodied presence in the world does not fit with how others interact and use their bodies to be social participants. In response they can turn to medical procedures, such as surgery or physiotherapy, in order to reshape their bodies to more closely approximate norms of social interaction and embodiment. This paper explores how medicine plays a role in attempts to be recognised by others as normal and acceptable by minimising disability. It will do so via a focus on disabled young people, in order to explore how their emerging identities and aspirations for the future influence how they think about their bodies, what normality means and their participation in multiple activities that work on their bodies. The paper draws from an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) project that used a range of qualitative research methods with a group of disabled young people. The project explored ways in which participants actively worked on their bodies to be more normal and examined the disciplinary and agency dynamics involved in this work.

Abstract
Photovoice is a group analysis method often affiliated with participatory action research (PAR). It has become increasingly popular in qualitative research with people with physical disabilities. This article details the results of a study that sought to understand the scope of the literature related to how photovoice is conducted with people with physical disabilities. We performed a scoping review related to use of photovoice in physical disabilities research. We identified 20 articles that featured diverse participants with physical disabilities and demonstrated a range of approaches to data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Nearly all of the articles identified used photovoice to study physical accessibility/navigation of space. Although a majority of selected articles purported to use PAR approaches, many articles demonstrated research that may not be as participatory as presumed. Based on the findings, we provide suggestions for photovoice studies that will ensure full and meaningful participation of members involved.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION A significant barrier to recovery for individuals with co-morbid eating disorders and type 1 diabetes is the way in which group members self-categorise. Nonetheless, identity issues are neglected during the recovery process. The aim of this paper is to explore how group memberships (and the associated identities) both contribute to and hinder recovery in this cohort. METHOD Transcripts from five online focus groups with 13 members of an online support group for individuals with 'Diabulimia' were thematically analysed. RESULTS Findings suggested that those with whom one shares a recovery identity can be well placed to provide psychological resources necessary for successful recovery although such connections can be damaging if group norms are not managed. Members recognised that other important relationships (including family and friends and health professionals) are also key to recovery; these other group memberships (and the associated identities) can be facilitated through the recovery identity group membership, which allows for external validation of the recovery identity, provides encouragement to disclose the illness to supportive others, and provides information to facilitate positive service interactions. CONCLUSIONS While clinical interventions typically focus on eliminating disordered behaviours, we suggest that these should also include strengthening important group memberships that promote recovery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To enhance understanding of the experiences of ageing with cerebral palsy (CP) in adulthood with a particular focus on experiences with health services. DESIGN A qualitative descriptive methodology was applied to capture adults' views of ageing with CP and related interactions with health services. Semistructured interviews were undertaken with data systematically coded and interpreted by grouping information into categories. Themes that encompassed the categories were identified through thematic analysis. SETTING All healthcare settings. PARTICIPANTS 28 adults (14 women) with CP, aged 37-70 years. RESULTS 5 themes covered the breadth of participants' experiences: (1) acceptance of change; (2) exploring identity: cerebral palsy as only one part of self; (3) taking charge of help; (4) rethinking the future and (5) interacting with health professionals. Being seen and being heard were the features described in positive healthcare interactions. Participants also valued health professionals who reflected on who holds the knowledge?; demonstrated a willingness to learn and respected participants' knowledge and experience. CONCLUSIONS Our findings could, and arguably should, inform more responsive strategies for disabled people in health services and, indeed, all health consumers. Our study supports other findings that impairments related to CP change and, for many, severity of disabling impact increases with age. Increased interactions with health and rehabilitation professionals, as a consequence of these changes, have the potential to impact the person's healthcare experience either positively or negatively. A 'listening health professional' may bridge their knowledge gap and, in recognising the person's own expertise, may achieve three things: a more contextualised healthcare intervention; a better healthcare experience for the person with CP and positive impact on the person's sense of autonomy and identity by recognising their expertise. Future research should identify whether this approach improves the healthcare experience for adults living with CP.

Abstract
Retention of a positively valued illness identity contributes to poor outcomes for individuals with eating disorders (EDs). Consequently, dis-identification from the illness identity and the adoption of a recovery identity are vital for successful recovery. While social identity processes have been shown to influence ED maintenance, their role in recovery is rarely considered. This study explores how a sense of shared identity helps individuals with EDs manage their condition and promotes recovery. Transcripts from 18 online support sessions involving 75 participants were thematically analysed. Our findings suggest that the illness identity initially operates as a social identity that forms the basis for connections with similar others. For those wishing to recover, identity-based support is then perceived to be more effective than that found outside the group. Online interactions also facilitate construction of a new shared recovery identity which promotes a shift from the illness identity as a primary source of definition and endorses group norms of illness disclosure and treatment engagement. While in the clinical literature, ED identity is seen as problematic and interventions are targeted at challenging an individual's self-concept, we suggest that interventions could instead harness identity resources to support a transition to a recovery identity.
