Abstract
A novel strategy combining ferulic acid and glucose was proposed to reduce β-lactoglobulin (BLG) allergenicity and investigate whether the reduction in allergenicity was associated with gut microbiome and serum metabolism. As a result, the multistructure of BLG changed, and the modified BLG decreased significantly the contents of IgE, IgG, IgG1, and mMCP-1 in serum, improved the diversity and structural composition of gut microbiota, and increased the content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in allergic mice. Meanwhile, allergic mice induced by BLG affected arachidonic acid, tryptophan, and other metabolic pathways in serum, the modified BLG inhibited the production of metabolites in arachidonic acid metabolism pathway and significantly increased tryptophan metabolites, and this contribution helps in reducing BLG allergenicity. Overall, reduced allergenicity of BLG after ferulic acid was combined with glucose modification by regulating gut microbiota, the metabolic pathways of arachidonic acid and tryptophan. The results may offer new thoughts alleviating the allergy risk of allergenic proteins.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common dermatologic problems, especially in children. Given the ability of symbiotic microorganisms in modulating the immune system, probiotics administration has been studied in previous research in the management of atopic dermatitis. However, there are conflicting results between studies. In this study, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of mixed probiotics as a treatment option for atopic dermatitis induced by ovalbumin. BALB/c juvenile mice were classified and divided into the ovalbumin group, mixed probiotic group (ovalbumin + LK), and control group. Except for the control group, all mice were sensitized with ovalbumin to establish a model of atopic dermatitis. The mixed probiotics were given by gavage for 14 days. Mice body weight, skin lesions, skin inflammation, ovalbumin-specific Ig, the number of Treg and CD103+DC, and the expression level of PD-1/PD-L1 were examined. The results showed that mixed probiotics can improve body weight and alleviate skin symptoms. Mixed probiotics reduced serum Th2 inflammatory factors, eosinophils, mast cell degranulation, mast cell count, and the expression of ovalbumin-specific immunoglobulin E/G1 and increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10, Treg cells, CD103+DC cells, and the expression level of PD-1/PD-L1. These findings suggest that mixed probiotics could be a viable treatment option for atopic dermatitis and provide insight into the underlying mechanisms involved.

Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate the ameliorative effects of exosome biogenesis in cow's milk allergy (CMA) response. In this context, BALB/c mice were systemically sensitized with cow's milk proteins plus an aluminum adjuvant to induce CMA. The inhibitor GW4869 of exosome biogenesis was added before sensitization and then the anaphylactic reactions were evaluated both in vivo (clinical score and body temperature) and in vitro (serum histamine, allergen-specific antibodies, cytokines by ELISA and cell analysis by flow cytometry) to explore the role of exosomes in the development of CMA. Nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the size distribution and morphology of CMA-derived exosomes were not changed after GW4869 preconditioning, and the concentration of exosomes was much lower than that of the CMA group. In the GW4869 group, inhibition of release of exosomes modulated the induction of T helper 2 cell (Th2)-related substances, with a decrease in histamine and allergen-specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E, and the expression of Th1, Th2, and Th17 cells all decreased as well. Moreover, the experimental data were integrated by means of principal component analysis (PCA) to give an overview that the percentage of Th cells and concentrations of cytokines were more influenced by GW4869 treatment. These data for the first time demonstrated that exosomes are involved in the development of CMA and the blockade of exosome release with GW4869 suppressed the IgE-mediated immune response in CMA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The promotion of epidermal barrier dysfunction is attributed to abnormalities in the lipid-microbiome positive feedback loop which significantly influences the imbalance of the epithelial immune microenvironment (EIME) in atopic dermatitis (AD). This imbalance encompasses impaired lamellar membrane integrity, heightened exposure to epidermal pathogens, and the regulation of innate and adaptive immunity. The lipid-microbiome loop is substantially influenced by intense adaptive immunity which is triggered by abnormal loop activity and affects the loop's integrity through the induction of atypical lipid composition and responses to dysregulated epidermal microbes. Immune responses participate in lipid abnormalities within the EIME by downregulating barrier gene expression and are further cascade-amplified by microbial dysregulation which is instigated by barrier impairment. AIM OF REVIEW This review examines the relationship between abnormal lipid composition, microbiome disturbances, and immune responses in AD while progressively substantiating the crosstalk mechanism among these factors. Based on this analysis, the "lipid-microbiome" positive feedback loop, regulated by immune responses, is proposed. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW The review delves into the impact of adaptive immune responses that regulate the EIME, driving AD, and investigates potential mechanisms by which lipid supplementation and probiotics may alleviate AD through the up-regulation of the epidermal barrier and modulation of immune signaling. This exploration offers support for targeting the EIME to attenuate AD.

Abstract
Food allergy is an abnormal immune reaction triggered by food protein antigens. Relevant studies have suggested that probiotic supplementation was with the potential to alleviate food allergy. This study aimed to explore the effects of Lactobacillus plantarum A56 on the alleviation of ovalbumin (OVA)-induced food allergy via immunomodulatory function, antioxidation, and modification of intestinal microbiota. Balb/c mice were sensitized with OVA (20 µg/mouse) by intraperitoneal injection for 3 weeks and accompanied by oral administration of L. plantarum A56 (109 CFU/mL), subsequently with orally challenged twice by OVA at 50 mg/mL for 1 week. The results showed that oral supplementation of L. plantarum A56 could effectively relieve allergic symptoms of mice, and decreased OVA-specific IgE and IgG1 concentrations. It also declined interleukin (IL)-4 level, raised interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in serum, and splenocyte supernatant, and the qPCR results were consistent with above results. Moreover, L. plantarum A56 treatment also fortified superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels, and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) level in serum. The increased nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) and forkhead box O1 (Foxo1) expression indicated that L. plantarum A56 exerted antioxidation through Nrf2-Foxo1 pathway. In addition, L. plantarum A56 treatment elevated Bacteroidetes richness, ASV/OTU number, species diversity, etc. Notably, Spearman correlation analysis indicated that Bacteroidetes displayed obviously negative correlation with IgE and IgG1, but Actinobacteria and Acidobacteria exhibited significantly positive correlation with IgG1 and IgE. Collectively, these results suggested that L. plantarum A56 could alleviate OVA-induced food allergy by regulating Th1/Th2 imbalance, antioxidation, and modulating intestinal microbiota.

Abstract
Allergic diseases and lipid-metabolism-disorder-derived diseases are both significant public health issues. Recent studies have shown that exosomes are associated with the course of allergic diseases and are involved in lipid metabolism. In this study, exosomes derived from cow's milk allergic (CMA) mice medially loaded lesser proteins favoring cholesterol metabolism. The levels of total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) in the serum were increased in the CMA mice, and hepatic lipid deposition was observed in the liver, but these phenomena were improved by inhibiting the exosome release. Specifically, the higher expression of the sterol regulatory element binding factor 2 (SREBP2) protein and HMGCR gene in the liver of CMA mice indicated an increase in cholesterol synthesis. NPC1L1 was also highly expressed in the small intestine of CMA mice, and fecal TC level was decreased, suggesting that the reabsorption of cholesterol was elevated. The biosynthesis of cholesterol, the reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) process, and the synthesis of bile acid in the liver were improved by inhibiting exosome release, as well as the reabsorption of cholesterol in the small intestine. This study has for the first time demonstrated the lipid metabolism disorder caused by CMA, especially the important role of exosomes in food allergies and lipid metabolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A large number of people worldwide suffer from gluten-induced food allergy. As investigated in our previous research, Lactobacillus paracasei AH2 isolated from traditionally homemade sourdough in Anhui province of China showed the potential to reduce the immune reactivity of wheat protein by in vitro evaluation. However, whether L. paracasei AH2 has a role in alleviating wheat allergy in an in vivo model and its underlying mechanisms have not been elucidated. RESULTS In this study, the alleviative effects of L. paracasei AH2 on gluten-induced allergic response were evaluated. Compared with a gluten-allergic mouse, L. paracasei AH2 suppressed anaphylaxis symptoms, gluten-specific immunoglobulin E, histamine and interleukin-4. Moreover, L. paracasei AH2 attenuated splenomegaly and induced Th1 or Treg cell differentiation to modulate the Th1/Th2 immune balance toward Th1 polarization. Short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) levels were enhanced after L. paracasei AH2 supplementation, contributing to allergy relief as well as reducing the pH of colonic contents. The α and β diversities of the gut microbiota were modulated by L. paracasei AH2 with increased relative abundance of Lacticaseibacillus and SCFA producers (Faecalibaculum, Alloprevotella and Bacteroides genera), as well as decreased unfavorable Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group and Alistipes. Additionally, L. paracasei AH2 protected the intestinal barrier function by upregulating tight junctions and improved the antioxidant activities in serum. CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that L. paracasei AH2 could act as a potential probiotic for relieving wheat allergy by modulating the gut microbiota and elevating SCFA levels. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Food allergy represents a failure of oral tolerance mechanisms to dietary antigens. Over the past few years, food allergies have become a growing public health problem worldwide. Gut microbiota is believed to have a significant impact on oral tolerance to food antigens and in initiation and maintenance of food allergies. Therefore, probiotics have also been proposed in this field as a possible strategy for modulating both the gut microbiota and the immune system. In recent years, results from preclinical and clinical studies suggest a promising role for probiotics in food allergy prevention and treatment. However, future studies are needed to better understand the mechanisms of action of probiotics in food allergies and to design comparable study protocols using specific probiotic strains, defined doses and exposure times, and longer follow-up periods.

Abstract
The globally dramatic increase in food allergy prevalence and severity is demanding effective preventive and therapeutic strategies. Food allergy derives from a defect of immune tolerance mechanisms. Immune tolerance is modulated by gut microbiome composition and function, and gut microbiome dysbiosis has been associated with the development of food allergy. Selected probiotic strains could regulate immune tolerance mechanisms. The mechanisms are multiple and are still not completely defined. Increasing evidence is providing useful information on the choice of optimal bacterial species/strains, dosage, and timing for intervention. The increased knowledge on the crucial role played by postbiotic gut microbiome-derived metabolites, such as butyrate, is also opening the way to a post- biotic approach in the stimulation of immune tolerance.

Abstract
Hazelnuts are reported as among the nuts that cause severe allergic reactions. However, few systematic studies exist on the changes in the gut microenvironment following hazelnut allergy. This study focused on the effects of hazelnut allergy on the duodenum, jejunum, ileum and colon microenvironment in vivo. We established a hazelnut protein isolate (HPI)-allergic mouse model, which was distinguished by the visible allergy symptoms, dropped temperatures and enhanced allergic inflammatory factor levels in serum, such as HPI-specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE), sIgG2a, interleukin-4, histamine, mouse mast cell protease-1, TNF-α, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 and lipopolysaccharide. For HPI sensitized mice, aggravated mast cell degranulation, severe morphologic damage and inflammatory cell infiltration were observed in the duodenum, jejunum, ileum, and colon, while goblet cell numbers were reduced in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Secretory IgA of the jejunum and tight junctions of the duodenum and jejunum were decreased significantly after HPI sensitization. There was no remarkable difference in the pH values of small intestinal contents, but the pH values of colonic contents were elevated, which was due to the decreased short-chain fatty acids (mainly acetate, propionate and butyrate) in the colon. The antioxidant capacity of both large and small intestinal contents declined after HPI sensitization, as evidenced by the increased malondialdehyde and decreased superoxide dismutase activity. HPI sensitization induced gut microbiota dysbiosis with decreased α diversity and altered β diversity in colonic contents. Spearman correlation analysis indicated that the increased characteristic genera, namely Bacteroides, Lactobacillus, Alloprevotella, Erysipelatoclostridium, Parabacteroides, and Helicobacter, played potentially synergistic roles in promoting allergy and gut microenvironment dysregulation.

Abstract
Childhood allergy, including asthma, eczema, and food allergies, is a major global health burden, with prevalence increasing dramatically and novel interventions needed. Emerging research suggests that human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), complex glycans found in breastmilk, have allergy-protective properties, indicating exciting therapeutic potential. This review evaluates current literature on the role of HMOs in allergy, assesses underlying immunological mechanisms, and discusses future research needed to translate findings into clinical implications. HMOs may mediate allergy risk through multiple structure-specific mechanisms, including microbiome modification, intestinal barrier maturation, immunomodulation, and gene regulation. Findings emphasize the importance of breastfeeding encouragement and HMO-supplemented formula milk for high allergy-risk infants. Although further investigation is necessary to determine the most efficacious structures against varying allergy phenotypes and their long-term efficacy, HMOs may represent a promising complementary tool for childhood allergy prevention.

Abstract
Probiotics have long been utilized as functional food and modulate gut microbial homeostasis, but their colonization niche is mostly unclear and transient, which restrains the development of microbiome-targeted strategies. Lactiplantibacillus (L.) plantarum ZDY2013 is an allochthonous species of the human gastrointestinal tract with acid-tolerant properties. It serves as an antagonistic agent against the food-borne pathogen Bacillus (B.) cereus and a potent regulator of the gut microbiota. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding the colonization dynamics of L. plantarum ZDY2013 in the host intestine and the colonization niche of its interaction with pathogens. Here, we designed a pair of specific primers targeting L. plantarum ZDY2013 based on its whole genome sequence. We evaluated their accuracy and sensitivity with other host-derived strains and confirmed their availability with artificially spiked fecal samples from different mouse models. Additionally, the content of L. plantarum ZDY2013 was quantified by qPCR in fecal samples from BALB/c mice, followed by the analysis of its colonization niche preference. Moreover, the interactions between L. plantarum ZDY2013 and enterotoxigenic B. cereus HN001 were also elucidated. The results revealed that the newly designed primers could identify L. plantarum ZDY2013 with high specificity and were resistant to the influence of the complex fecal matrix and gut microbes from different hosts. Interestingly, the content of mixed L. plantarum ZDY2013 and B. cereus HN001 when orally administered remained higher when compared with the single strain group in BALB/c mice upon discontinuation of intragastric administration. In addition, L. plantarum ZDY2013 was mainly enriched in the large intestine during the ingestion period and maintained the highest content in the stomach after discontinuing supplementation on day 7. Moreover, L. plantarum ZDY2013 colonization neither damaged the intestine nor ameliorated the damage triggered by B. cereus in BALB/c mice. Overall, our study constructed two efficient specific primers targeting L. plantarum ZDY2013 and provided the potential to explore the underlying mechanism of competition between L. plantarum ZDY2013 and pathogens in host species.

Abstract
The goal of food allergy (FA) prevention and treatment is to induce oral tolerance (OT). Appropriate nutritional interventions are essential to induce OT to food allergens. This review introduces the mechanism of OT and the importance of early nutritional interventions, and then firstly summarizes specific nutritional factors to induce the development of OT of FA, including proteins, vitamins, fatty acids, saccharides and probiotics. The regulatory mechanism mainly induces the development of tolerance by increasing local or systemic protective regulatory T cells (Tregs) to suppress FA, while the gut microbiota may also be changed to maintain intestinal homeostasis. For allergens-specific OT, the disruption to the structure of proteins and epitopes is critical for the induction of tolerance by hydrolyzed and heated proteins. Vitamins (vitamin A, D), fatty acids, saccharides and probiotics as allergens nonspecific OT also induce the development of OT through immunomodulatory effects. This review contributes to our understanding of OT in FA through nutritional interventions. Nutritional interventions play an important role in the induction of OT, and offer promising approaches to reduce allergy risk and alleviate FA. Moreover, due to the importance and diversity of nutrition, it must be the future trend of induction of OT in FA.

Abstract
In the early stage of this study, three strains of Lactobacillus with anti-soybean allergy potential were screened: Lactobacillus acidophilus CICC 6081, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus CICC 6103 and Lactobacillus plantarum subsp. Plantarum CICC 20988. The aim of this study was to analyze the desensitization effect of three strains of Lactobacillus administered by gavage to soybean-allergic mice through the differentiation of immune cells in intestinal lymph nodes and the changes to gut microbiota. The results showed that the three strains of Lactobacillus could stimulate the proliferation of dendritic cells (DCs) and regulate the balance of Th1/Th2 differentiation in the MLNs and PPs of soybean-allergic mice. Furthermore, the Th17/Tregs cell-differentiation ratio in the MLNs of the Lactobacillus-treated mice was significantly lower than that of the allergic mice (p < 0.05). Compared to the control group, the Shannon, Sobs and Ace indexes of intestinal microbiota in the allergic mice were significantly increased (p < 0.05), and the proportion of Clostridiales was significantly higher (p < 0.05), which was reversed by Lactobacillus gavage. In conclusion, the three strains of Lactobacillus can inhibit the intestinal mucosal immune response and regulate gut microbiota balance in soybean-allergic mice.

Abstract
To reveal, for the first time, the mechanism of T cell epitope release from β-lactoglobulin that induces oral immune tolerance, a strategy for the prediction, preparation, identification and application of β-lactoglobulin hydrolysate with oral immune tolerance was established using the bioinformatics method, hydrolysis, mass spectrometry, T cell proliferation assays and animal experiments. Some T cell epitope peptides of β-lactoglobulin were identified for the first time. The hydrolysates of trypsin, protamex and papain showed oral tolerance, among which the hydrolysates of protamex and papain have been reported for the first time. Although the neutral protease hydrolysate contained T cell epitopes, it still had allergenicity. The mechanism behind oral immune tolerance induction by T cell epitopes needs to be further revealed. In addition, the trypsin hydrolysate with abundant T cell epitopes was added to whey protein to prepare the product for oral immune tolerance. Overall, this study provides insights into the development of new anti-allergic milk-based products and their application in the clinical treatment of milk allergies.

Abstract
PURPOSE The incidence and prevalence of food allergy have sharply risen over the past several decades. Oral administration of probiotic stains has been proven as a safe and effective method to control food allergy. In this study, it aims to comprehensively investigate the anti-allergic effect of Lactobacillus plantarum JC7. METHODS Balb/c mice were randomly divided into three groups and received OVA (20 µg/mouse, intraperitoneal injection), L. plantarum JC7 (2 × 108 CFU/mouse, intragastric administration) + OVA (20 µg/mouse, intraperitoneal injection) or 0.9% saline (intragastric administration) for 3 weeks. Body weight was monitored weekly, and allergic reactions were evaluated after challenge of OVA. Serum levels of OVA-specific immunoglobulins and various cytokines were tested using ELISA, and the cecum microbiota was analysed by 16S rRNA sequencing to explore the relationships between these indicators and OVA-induced food allergy. Western blotting was used to identify the expression levels of phosphorylated IκBα and nuclear factor kappa B p65. RESULTS OVA-sensitised mice showed mitigation of respiratory manifestations, alleviation of lung inflammation and congestion, and the presence of an intact intestinal villus structure. Furthermore, OVA-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE), OVA-specific-IgG1, and plasma histamine levels were declined in mice treated with L. plantarum JC7 than in OVA-sensitised mice. In addition, interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and interleukin 10 (IL-10) levels were significantly increased, while IL-4 and IL-17A levels were clearly decreased in mice that had undergone oral administration of L. plantarum JC7, compared with OVA-sensitised mice. These findings indicated imbalances of T helper cell type 1 (Th1)/Th2 and regulatory T cells (Treg)/Th17, which were confirmed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Western blotting demonstrated that the expression levels of phosphorylated IκBα and nuclear factor kappa B p65 were significantly increased in OVA-sensitised mice, but these changes were partly reversed after treatment with L. plantarum JC7. Oral administration of L. plantarum JC7 increased the richness, diversity, and evenness of cecum microbiota, characterised by higher Bacteroidetes abundance and lower Firmicutes abundance. Additionally, the intestinal microbial community composition was significantly altered in the OVA-sensitised group, indicating a disordered intestinal microbiota that was restored by the oral administration of L. plantarum JC7. CONCLUSION Overall, L. plantarum JC7 can prevent food allergy by rectifying Th1/Th2 and Treg/Th17 imbalances, combined with modifications of disordered intestinal microbiota.

Abstract
Food allergies (FA), a major public health problem recognized by the World Health Organization, affect an estimated 3%-10% of adults and 8% of children worldwide. However, effective treatments for FA are still lacking. Recent advances in glycoimmunology have demonstrated the great potential of sialic acids (SAs) in the treatment of FA. SAs are a group of nine-carbon α-ketoacids usually linked to glycoproteins and glycolipids as terminal glycans. They play an essential role in modulating immune responses and may be an effective target for FA intervention. As exogenous food components, sialylated polysaccharides have anti-FA effects. In contrast, as endogenous components, SAs on immunoglobulin E and immune cell surfaces contribute to the pathogenesis of FA. Given the lack of comprehensive information on the effects of SAs on FA, we reviewed the roles of endogenous and exogenous SAs in the pathogenesis and treatment of FA. In addition, we considered the structure-function relationship of SAs to provide a theoretical basis for the development of SA-based FA treatments.

Abstract
Food allergy is a serious public health problem because of its high incidence and risk. Probiotics can induce immune regulation in patients with allergic diseases, but its mechanism is not fully clear. In this paper, β-lactoglobulin (β-LG)-sensitized mice were used as models to explore the mechanism of Bifidobacterium animalis KV9 (KV9) and Lactobacillus vaginalis FN3 (FN3) on reducing allergic reactions and regulating immune cell function. The results showed that oral administration of KV9 and FN3 significantly reduced the scores of allergic symptoms, hypothermia symptoms, and serum levels of β-LG-specific immunoglobulins E (β-LG-sIgE), histamine, and mast cell protease in allergic mice. Flow cytometry analysis of intestinal dendritic cells (DCs) showed that the proportion of CD11c+major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-II+DCs, CD11c+CD80+DCs, and CD11c+ CD86+DCs increased after KV9 and FN3 intervention, indicating that the strains induced immature DCs and decreased the antigen-presenting capacity of DCs. Meanwhile, the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-NF-κB signaling pathway was activated in DCs. The secretion of interleukin-12 (IL-12) was significantly increased, while interleukin-4 (IL-4) was decreased by DCs after KV9 and FN3 intervention, indicating that DCs have the potential to promote T-cell differentiation into T helper type 1 (Th1) cells. Furthermore, the proportion of CD3+CD8−IFN-γ+ T cells in the spleen increased, while CD3+CD8−IL-4+T cells decreased after oral administration of KV9 and FN3, correcting the T helper type 2 (Th2)-skewed immune responses. These results indicate that KV9 and FN3 reduce β-LG-induced allergic symptoms in mice, and suggest that the two potential probiotics might be used as an alternative therapeutic agent for mitigating food allergy.

Abstract
Food allergy (FA) is a global public health issue with growing prevalence. Increasing evidence supports the strong correlation between intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and food allergies. Probiotic intervention as a microbiota-based therapy could alleviate FA effectively. In addition to improving the intestinal microbiota disturbance and affecting microbial metabolites to regulate immune system, immune responses induced by the recognition of pattern recognition receptors to probiotic components may also be one of the mechanisms of probiotics protecting against FA. In this review, it is highlighted in detail about the regulatory effects on the immune system and anti-allergic potential of probiotic components including the flagellin, pili, peptidoglycan, lipoteichoic acid, exopolysaccharides, surface (S)-layer proteins and DNA. Probiotic components could enhance the function of intestinal epithelial barrier as well as regulate the balance of cytokines and T helper (Th) 1/Th2/regulatory T cell (Treg) responses. These evidences suggest that probiotic components could be used as nutritional or therapeutic agents for maintaining immune homeostasis to prevent FA, which will contribute to providing new insights into the resolution of FA and better guidance for the development of probiotic products.

Abstract
Background Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the digestive tract. Approximately 3 million US adults suffer from this disease. Mesalazine, an anti-inflammatory agent, is commonly used for the treatment of UC. However, some studies have demonstrated side effects of mesalazine, such as acute pancreatitis and hypereosinophilia. Therefore, a better understanding of the anti-inflammatory mechanism of mesalazine in UC could help improve the effectiveness of the drug and reduce its side effects. In this study, we used a dextran sodium sulfate-induced UC mouse model, and applied network pharmacology and omics bioinformatics approaches to uncover the potential pharmaceutical targets and the anti-inflammatory mechanism of mesalazine. Results Network pharmacology analysis identified the core targets of mesalazine, biological processes, and cell signaling related to immunity and inflammatory responses mediated by mesalazine. Molecular docking analysis then indicated possible binding motifs on the core targets (including TNF-α, PTGS2, IL-1β, and EGFR). Metabolomics and 16S metagenomic analyses highlighted the correlation between gut microbiota and metabolite changes caused by mesalazine in the UC model. Conclusions Collectively, the omics and bioinformatics approaches and the experimental data unveiled the detailed molecular mechanisms of mesalazine in UC treatment, functional regulation of the gut immune system, and reduction of intestinal inflammation. More importantly, the identified core targets could be targeted for the treatment of UC.

Abstract
Fermented foods (FFs) have been a part of our diets for millennia and comprise highly diverse products obtained from plants and animals all over the world. Historically, fermentation has been used to preserve food and render certain raw materials edible. As our food systems evolve towards more sustainability, the health benefits of FFs have been increasingly touted. Fermentation generates new/transformed bioactive compounds that may occur in association with probiotic bacteria. The result can be specific, advantageous functional properties. Yet, when considering the body of human studies on the topic, whether observational or experimental, it is rare to come across findings supporting the above assertion. Certainly, results are lacking to confirm the widespread idea that FFs have general health benefits. There are some exceptions, such as in the case of lactose degradation via fermentation in individuals who are lactose intolerant; the impact of select fermented dairy products on insulin sensitivity; or the benefits of alcohol consumption. However, in other situations, the results fail to categorically indicate whether FFs have neutral, beneficial, or detrimental effects on human health. This review tackles this apparent incongruity by showing why it is complex to test the health effects of FFs and what can be done to improve knowledge in this field.

Abstract
Food allergy (FA) is a common immune disorder caused by food antigens. Probiotic strains showed alleviating effects on FA, such as the alleviation of FA pathological symptoms, serum OVA-sIgE levels, and the gut microbiota diversity and composition. The results showed that intragastric administration of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCFM1189, Limosilactobacillus reuteri CCFM1190, and Bifidobacterium longum CCFM1029 alleviated the weight loss and FA pathological symptoms of FA mice and decreased OVA-specific IgE and histamine (HIS) levels. CCFM1189 and CCFM1190 decreased IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 levels, while CCFM1189 and CCFM 1029 decreased IL-17 levels. The gut microbiota analysis demonstrated that CCFM1189 increased the abundance of Akkermansia, while CCFM1190 improved immune regulation bacteria such as Faecalibaculum. CCFM1029 increased Bifidobacterium and the bacteria involved in short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, such as Dubosiella. L. plantarum CCFM1189 and L. reuteri CCFM1190 improved indoleacrylic acid levels in mouse fecal samples using untargeted metabolomics analysis. In conclusion, CCFM1189, CCFM1190, and CCFM1029 decreased Th2 immune responses and alleviated FA pathological symptoms by regulating the gut microbiota diversity and composition, and altering gut microbial metabolites, which could provide support in clinical tests and probiotic production in the future.

Abstract
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and β-lactoglobulin (βLg) were conjugated by covalent bonds to form EGCG-βLg conjugates. This conjugation causes structural and bioactivity changes in βLg, which in turn can be used as a possible approach for desensitization to allergens. In this study, the desensitization mechanism was investigated by monitoring βLg secondary structure and immunoglobulin E (IgE) combining capacity changes on the basis of the conjugation mechanism. Furthermore, the desensitization efficiency in vivo was evaluated through animal experiments. The results show that temperature influenced the conjugation by decreasing the binding affinities (Ka) and binding numbers (n) of EGCG. The conjugation of EGCG decreased βLg's IgE combining capacity by decreasing the β-sheet component and imparted antioxidant properties by the introduction of hydroxyl groups. In addition, animal experiment results indicated that βLg induced significant changes in the levels of IgE and inflammatory cytokines, and the relative abundance of small intestinal flora, linked to the inflammatory lesions and anaphylaxis symptoms. EGCG-βLg conjugates can suppress the allergic response, attenuating serum IgE and relieving the anaphylaxis symptoms.

Abstract
Objective: Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is a common allergic disease. Probiotics have been suggested as a treatment for CMA, with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) being one of the important predominant choices. Despite reports on this topic, the effectiveness of application in CMA remains to be firmly established. Methods: To assess the effects of LGG on CMA in children, the PubMed/Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched for studies on LGG in treatment of CMA, which were published in the English language. Results: Ten studies were finally included. Significantly higher tolerability rates favoring LGG over controls were observed [risk ratio (RR), 2.22; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.86-2.66; I 2 = 0.00; moderate-quality evidence]. There were no significant differences in SCORAD values favoring LGG over the placebo (mean difference, 1.41; 95% CI, -4.99-7.82; p = 0.67; very low-quality evidence), and LGG may have improved fecal occult blood (risk ratio, 0.36; 95% CI, 0.14-0.92; p = 0.03; low-quality evidence). Conclusion: We found that LGG may have moderate-quality evidence to promote oral tolerance in children with CMA and may facilitate recovery from intestinal symptoms. However, this finding must be treated with caution, and more gpowerful RCTs are needed to evaluate the most effective dose and treatment time for children with CMA. Abstract
Milk protein is one of the eight major allergens, and α-lactalbumin (α-LA) is one of the major allergens of bovine milk protein. Our previous studies found that Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HM-22 (L. plantarum HM-22) showed a good gastrointestinal survival rate and intestinal colonization. To investigate the effect of L. plantarum HM-22 on intestinal inflammation and intestinal microbiota in α-LA-induced allergic mice, in this study, L. plantarum HM-22 at low and high doses was intragastrically administered to α-LA-induced allergic mice for 5 weeks. The results showed that L. plantarum HM-22 significantly relieved the weight loss and organ index of α-LA-induced allergic mice (p < 0.05). L. plantarum HM-22 increased the levels of interleukin-10 (IL-10), interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in the serum of α-LA-induced allergic mice and decreased the levels of total immunoglobulin E (IgE) and the proinflammatory factor interleukin-4 (IL-4) (p < 0.05). The crypt structure of the colon tissues of α-LA-induced allergic mice changed, goblet cells decreased, and the phenomenon of a large number of inflammatory corpuscles that appeared was improved and alleviated with the intervention of L. plantarum HM-22 by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Western blot analysis showed that L. plantarum HM-22 significantly increased the expression of occludin and claudin-1 in the colon of α-LA-induced allergic mice and decreased the expression of the inflammatory proteins p65 and IκBα (p < 0.05). The intestinal microbiota of mice in each group was determined by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, and the results showed that intervention with L. plantarum HM-22 improved the intestinal microbes of α-LA-induced allergic mice. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed the correlation between intestinal microbiota changes and the α-LA-induced allergy-related index. This study provides a theoretical basis for probiotics to prevent allergies by changing the intestinal microbiota.

Abstract
Our previous experiments have confirmed that human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) and its main component 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL), as prebiotics, could effectively alleviate cow milk allergy by regulating the intestinal microecology. This study intended to further explore the molecular mechanism of HMO regulating intestinal immunity. The results of the allergic mouse model showed that oral administration of 2'-FL or HMO reduced β-lactoglobulin (β-LG)-induced serum-specific IgE secretion and mast cell degranulation, while reducing the inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α, IL-4, and IL-6 production and promoting the miR-146a expression. In vitro results further confirmed that 2'-FL or HMO treatment reduced allergen-induced secretion of iNOS, NO, pro-inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species in RAW264.7 cells. At the same time, in contrast to the β-LG group, 2'-FL dose-dependently inhibited the TLR4/NF-κB inflammatory pathway and upregulated miR-146a expression, and the effect of the 2'-FL mid-dose group was similar to that of the HMO intervention group. In particular, adding miR-146a inhibitors to macrophages attenuated the inhibitory effect of 2'-FL on the expression of TRAF6 and IRAKI in the TLR4 pathway, suggesting that miR-146a might be involved in the immune regulation of 2'-FL. The above results indicated that 2'-FL had a similar effect to HMOs, and its effect of reducing β-LG allergy might be related to the regulation of miR-146a to inhibit TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway.

Abstract
Whey and its components are recognized as value-added ingredients in infant formulas, beverages, sports nutritious foods, and other food products. Whey offers opportunities for the food industrial sector to develop functional foods with potential health benefits due to its unique physiological and functional attributes. Despite all the above importance, the consumption of whey protein (WP) can trigger hypersensitive reactions and is a constant threat for sensitive individuals. Although avoiding such food products is the most successful approach, there is still a chance of incorrect labeling and cross-contamination during food processing. As whey allergens in food products are cross-reactive, the phenomenon of homologous milk proteins of various species may escalate to a more serious problem. In this review, nonthermal processing technologies used to prevent and eliminate WP allergies are presented and discussed in detail. These processing technologies can either enhance or mitigate the impact of potential allergenicity. Therefore, the development of highly precise analytical technologies to detect and quantify the existence of whey allergens is of considerable importance. The present review is an attempt to cover all the updated approaches used for the detection of whey allergens in processed food products. Immunological and DNA-based assays are generally used for detecting allergenic proteins in processed food products. In addition, mass spectrometry is also employed as a preliminary technique for detection. We also highlighted the latest improvements in allergen detection toward biosensing strategies particularly immunosensors and aptasensors.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a public health concern and is increasing in prevalence in urban areas. Recent advances in sequencing technology have demonstrated that the development of AD not only associate with the skin microbiome but gut microbiota. Gut microbiota plays an important role in allergic diseases including AD. The hypothesis of the “gut-skin” axis has been proposed and the cross-talk mechanism between them has been gradually demonstrated in the research. Probiotics contribute to the improvement of the intestinal environment, the balance of immune responses, regulation of metabolic activity. Most studies suggest that probiotic supplements may be an alternative for the prevention and treatment of AD. This study aimed to discuss the effects of probiotics on the clinical manifestation of AD based on gut microbial alterations. Here we reviewed the gut microbial alteration in patients with AD, the association between gut microbiota, epidermal barrier, and toll-like receptors, and the interaction of probiotics and gut microbiota. The potential mechanisms of probiotics on alleviating AD via upregulation of epidermal barrier and regulation of immune signaling had been discussed, and their possible effective substances on AD had been explored. This provides the supports for targeting gut microbiota to attenuate AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Food allergy has been a significant public health issue with growing severity, prevalence and limited treatments. The neutrophil-activating protein A subunit (NapA) of Helicobacter pylori has been shown to have therapeutic potential in allergic diseases. METHODS The NapA expression efficiency of recombinant Lactococcus lactis(L.lactis) were determined. The effects of recombinant bacterium on food allergy in Balb/c mice were also investigated. RESULTS NapA were delivered and expressed efficiently via L. lactis. The engineered bacterium ameliorated food allergy symptoms (acute diarrhea and intestinal inflammation) and decreased serum histamine levels. In addition, the secretion of OVA-specific IgG2a, IFN-γ was promoted and the level of IL-4, OVA-specific IgE was restrained. CONCLUSIONS The recombinant strain may attenuate food allergy in mice through immune regulatory effect, which may be a promising approach for preventing or treating food allergy.

Abstract
Previous study has reported that Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ZDY2013 which was screened from traditional Chinese fermented soybeans has a strong acid resistance. The purpose of this study was to uncover the genes potentially related to its genetic adaptation and probiotic profiles, based on comparative genomic and comparative transcriptome analysis. We got the basic information about L. plantarum ZDY2013 and identified genes which are related to genetic adaptation and probiotic profiles, including carbohydrate transport and metabolism, cell wall/membrane/envelope biogenesis, proteolytic enzyme systems and amino acid biosynthesis, CRISPR adaptive immunity, stress responses, ability to adhere to the host intestinal wall, exopolysaccharide (EPS) biosynthesis, and bacteriocin biosynthesis. Comparative transcriptome showed CK group (normal MRS culture L. plantarum ZDY2013) and SCL group (pH 3.0 MRS culture L. plantarum ZDY2013) had 652 significant differentially expressed genes including 310 up-regulated genes and 342 down-regulated genes. Besides that, these genes had been classified through KEGG and GO functional annotation. In addition, we also found top 20 KEGG pathways adjusted to acid stress. Then, some genes were selected to verify the transcriptome analysis and explore the mechanism of how L. plantarum ZDY2013 tolerate acid stress. We found that some genes of ABC transporter, phosphotransferase system, oxidation reduction process, membrane transporter and phosphorylation metabolism process had a significant change. These results suggested that comparative characterization of the L. plantarum ZDY2013 genome and transcriptome provided the genetic basis for further elucidating the functional mechanisms of it.

Abstract
We showed previously that three probiotic strains, i.e., Lactobacillus rhamnosus LA305, L. salivarius LA307, and Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis LA308, exerted different preventive effects in a mouse model of cow’s milk allergy. In this study, we evaluated their potential benefits in a curative mouse model of cow’s milk allergy. When administered for 3 weeks after the sensitization process and a first allergic reaction, none of the strains modified the levels of sensitization and allergic markers. However, all three strains affected gut bacterium communities and modified immune and inflammatory responses, leading to a tolerogenic profile. Interestingly, all three strains exerted a direct effect on dendritic cells, which are known to play a major role in food sensitization through their potentially tolerogenic properties and anergic responses. Taken together, these data indicate a potentially beneficial role of the probiotic strains tested in this model of cow’s milk allergy with regard to tolerance acquisition. Cow’s milk allergy is a worldwide public health issue, especially since there is no effective treatment, apart from milk and dairy product avoidance. The aim of this study was to assess the beneficial role of three probiotic strains previously selected for their prophylactic properties in a mouse model of β-lactoglobulin allergy. Administration of Lactobacillus rhamnosus LA305, L. salivarius LA307, or Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis LA308 for 3 weeks post–sensitization and challenge modified the composition of the gut microbiota, with an increase in the Prevotella NK3B31 group and a decrease in Marvinbryantia, belonging to the Lachnospiraceae family. Although no impact on markers of sensitization was detected, modifications of foxp3, tgfβ, and il10 ileal gene expression, as well as plasma metabolomic alterations in the tryptophan pathway, were observed. Moreover, ex vivo studies showed that all probiotic strains induced significant decreases in cytokine production by β-lactoglobulin-stimulated splenocytes. Taken together, these results suggest that the three probiotic strains tested lead to alterations in immune responses, i.e., induction of a tolerogenic anergy and anti-inflammatory responses. This anergy could be linked to cecal microbiota modifications, although no impact on fecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations was detected. Anergy could also be linked to a direct impact of probiotic strains on dendritic cells, since costimulatory molecule expression was decreased following coincubation of these strains with bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). To conclude, all three candidate probiotic strains induced strain-specific gut microbiota and metabolic changes, which could potentially be beneficial for general health, as well as anergy, which could contribute to oral tolerance acquisition. Abstract
Currently, microplastics (MPs) attracted increased attention for their ubiquity and toxic properties. In this study, marine medaka was used to explore the individual and combined toxicity of heavy metals (HMs) and MPs on intestinal bacteria and gonadal development. After exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of MPs and HMs, significant alterations of intestinal microbiota were found. The MPs treatment reduced the diversity and abundance of intestinal microbiota, while the HMs and MPs-HMs treatments increased them, which were confirmed by the abundance changes of Proteobacteria. According to the KEGG analysis, the metabolism and environmental information processing (EIP) pathways in the microbial community were significantly affected. This study showed that the MPs-HMs treatment caused a higher pollution load on the gut of the marine medaka, and triggered more significant changes of specific bacterial species and gut function in the males. However, during the gonadal development, HMs and MPs-HMs treatments resulted in empty follicles (EF) and follicular atresia (FA), and altered the gene expression levels related to hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. In short, this study demonstrated that the reproductive disturbance was mainly due to HMs, but the combination of MPs and HMs did not strengthen the risk to the gonad development of the marine medaka.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Probiotics regulate host immune balance, which may reduce immune-related diseases. The effects and mechanisms of Lactobacillus rhamnosus 2016SWU.05.0601 (Lr-0601) on the immune response in ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized mice were explored. RESULTS Lr-0601 reduced serum immunoglobulin (Ig)E and OVA-IgE and attenuated the alteration in lung pathology in OVA-sensitized mice. Lr-0601 blocked OVA-induced up-regulation in serum T helper (Th) 2 and Th17 cytokines but increased the serum levels of Th1 and regulatory T (Treg) cytokines in OVA-sensitized mice. OVA also markedly reduced the protein levels of spleen T-box transcription factor and forkhead/winged helix transcription factor p3, leading to the reduced mRNA expression of interferon-γ and interleukin (IL)-10. By contrast, OVA markedly increased the protein expression of spleen GATA-binding protein 3 and retinoid-related orphan receptor γt, as well as the mRNA expression of spleen IL-4 and IL-17. These changes induced by OVA were reversed by Lr-0601. Moreover, Lr-0601 helped alleviate OVA-induced intestinal microbiota dysbiosis. A correlation was found between specific genera and immune-associated cytokines. CONCLUSION The combined results indicate that Lr-0601 modulated the balance of Th1/Th2 and Treg/Th17 in OVA-sensitized mice, which was associated with the regulation of immune-related transcription factors and gut microbiota. Lr-0601 can potentially be used as a probiotic for preventing immune-related diseases. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION High-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity is accompanied by compromised nitric oxide (NO) signaling and gut microbiome dysregulation. Inorganic dietary nitrate, which acts as a NO donor, exerts beneficial effects on metabolic disorders. Here, we evaluated the effects of dietary nitrate on HFD-induced obesity and provided insights into the underlying mechanism. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS To investigate the preventive effect of dietary nitrate on HFD-induced obesity, C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned into four groups (n=10/group), including normal control diet group (normal water and chow diet), HFD group (normal water and HFD), HFD+NaNO3 group (water containing 2 mM NaNO3 and HFD), and HFD+NaCl group (water containing 2 mM NaCl and HFD). During the experiment, body weight was monitored and glucolipid metabolism was evaluated. The mechanism underlying the effects of nitrate on HFD-induced obesity was investigated by the following: the NO3--NO2--NO pathway; endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels; gut microbiota via 16SRNA analysis. RESULTS Dietary nitrate reduced the body weight gain and lipid accumulation in adipose and liver tissues in HFD-fed mice. Hyperlipidemia and insulin resistance caused by HFD were improved in mice supplemented with nitrate. The level of eNOS was upregulated by nitrate in the serum, liver, and inguinal adipose tissue. Nitrate, nitrite, and cGMP levels were decreased in mice fed on HFD but reversed in the HFD+NaNO3 group. Nitrate also rebalanced the colon microbiota and promoted a normal gut microbiome profile by partially attenuating the impacts of HFD. Bacteroidales S24-7, Alistipes, Lactobacillus, and Ruminococcaceae abundances were altered, and Bacteroidales S24-7 and Alistipes abundances were higher in the HFD+NaNO3 group than that in the HFD group. CONCLUSIONS Inorganic dietary nitrate alleviated HFD-induced obesity and ameliorated disrupted glucolipid metabolism via NO3--NO2--NO pathway activation and gut microbiome modulation.

Abstract
Allergic diseases are increasing worldwide, associating with increased health costs and decreased quality of life. Allergy is immune-related diseases caused by an allergic immune response to innocuous substance in the environment. At present, research has focussed on the study of the relevance to the microbiome and the phenotypes of allergy, including the relationships among the gastrointestinal microbiome, immune function, and allergic sensitisation. Probiotics as functional food ingredient are thought to secrete functional metabolites that have antibacterial effects on ameliorating intestinal health and CD4+ T helper cells-mediated immunity. This review will summarise the role of probiotics in the immune regulation and flora balance, highlighting recent advances in our understanding of the imbalance of Th subsets and cytokine leading to the immunopathology of allergic reactions. Finally, we discussed the unresolved problems and future research directions in order to promote the clinical application of probiotics immunotherapy.

Abstract
Lactic acid bacteria as a starter culture are very important component in the fermentation process of dairy and food industry. Application of lactic acid bacteria as probiotic bacteria adds more functionality to the developed product. Gut colonizing bacteria have attractive benefits related to human health. Bio-functional properties such as antimicrobial activity, anti-inflammatory, ACE-inhibitory, antioxidant, antidiarrheal, antiviral, immunomodulatory, hypocholesterolemic, anti-diabetic and anti-cancer activities are the most applicable research areas of lactic acid bacteria. Different strains of Lactobacillus are generally consumed as probiotics and colonize the gastrointestinal tract. Sometimes these bacteria may possess antimicrobial activity and may positively influence the effect of antibiotics. Use of Lactobacillus spp. for the development of functional foods is one of the promising areas of current research and applications. Individual bacterial species have unique biological activity, which may vary from strains to strains and identification of this uniqueness could be helpful in the development of functional and therapeutic food products.

Abstract
Food allergy is rising at an alarming rate and is a major public health concern. Globally, food allergy affects over 500 million people, often starting in early childhood and increasingly reported in adults. Commercially, only one approved oral immunotherapy-based treatment is currently available and other allergen-based immunotherapeutic are being investigated in clinical studies. As an alternative approach, a substantial amount of research has been conducted on natural compounds and probiotics, focusing on the immune modes of action, and therapeutic uses of such sources to tackle various immune-related diseases. Food allergy is primarily mediated by IgE antibodies and the suppression of allergic symptoms seems to be mostly modulated through a reduction of allergen-specific IgE antibodies, upregulation of blocking IgG, and downregulation of effector cell activation (e.g., mast cells) or expression of T-helper 2 (Th-2) cytokines. A wide variety of investigations conducted in small animal models or cell-based systems have reported on the efficacy of natural bioactive compounds and probiotics as potential anti-allergic therapeutics. However, very few lead compounds, unlike anti-cancer and anti-microbial applications, have been selected for clinical trials in the treatment of food allergies. Natural products or probiotic-based approaches appear to reduce the symptoms and/or target specific pathways independent of the implicated food allergen. This broad range therapeutic approach essentially provides a major advantage as several different types of food allergens can be targeted with one approach and potentially associated with a lower cost of development. This review provides a brief overview of the immune mechanisms underlying food allergy and allergen-specific immunotherapy, followed by a comprehensive collection of current studies conducted to investigate the therapeutic applications of natural compounds and probiotics, including discussions of their mode of action and immunological aspects of their disease-modifying capabilities.

Food allergies are a steadily increasing health and economic problem. Immunologically, food allergic reactions are caused by pathological, allergen-specific Th2 responses resulting in IgE-mediated mast cell degranulation and associated inflammatory reactions. Clinically, food allergies are characterized by local inflammation of the mouth mucosa, the face, the throat, the gastrointestinal tract, are frequently paralleled by skin reactions, and can result in life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. To better understand food allergies and establish novel treatment options, mouse models are indispensable. This review discusses the available mouse food allergy models, dividing them into four categories: (1) adjuvant-free mouse models, (2) mouse models relying on adjuvants to establish allergen-specific Th2 responses, (3) mouse models using genetically-modified mouse strains to allow for easier sensitization, and (4) humanized mouse models in which different immunodeficient mouse strains are reconstituted with human immune or stem cells to investigate humanized immune responses. While most of the available mouse models can reproducibly portray the immunological parameters of food allergy (Th2 immune responses, IgE production and mast cell activation/expansion), so far, the recreation of the clinical parameters has proven more difficult. Therefore, up to now none of the available mouse models can reproduce the complete human pathology.
