Abstract
Exosomes, which are extracellular vesicles secreted and released from specific cells, exist widely in cell culture supernatants and various body fluids. This study aimed to analyze the research status of exosomes in stroke, and predict developmental trends via bibliometric analyses. The related literature from January 1, 2008 to January 1, 2024 was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection and 943 articles were retrieved. VOSviewer was used to visualize national cooperation and institutional cooperation. Cluster analysis of keywords and Citespace were applied for mutation analysis. Results: The analysis of 943 works of literature showed that the number of published articles has been steadily increasing since 2015. It is predicted that nearly 211 articles will be published in 2024 and 220 annually by 2028. China has the largest number of publications (473), followed by the United States (234), and Germany (61). The institution with the most publications is Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit, MI). In the keyword cluster "Exosomes and the Mechanism of Stroke: Inflammation and Apoptosis," exosomes and inflammation were identified as hotspots. "Functional recovery" was a new trend in the keyword cluster of "Angiogenesis and Functional Recovery after Stroke." China and the United States are the main forces in this field, and both countries focusing on drug treatments. The studies have been published mainly in China and United States. The findings of our bibliometric analyses of the literature may enable researchers to choose appropriate institutions, collaborators, and journals.

Abstract
Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions globally. It encompasses both motor and non-motor symptoms, with a notable impact on patients' quality of life. Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a non-invasive tool that is increasingly utilized to investigate neural mechanisms in PD, identify early diagnostic markers, and assess therapeutic responses. Methods The data were sourced from the Science Citation Index Expanded within the Web of Science Core Collection database, focusing on publications related to EEG research in PD from 2004 to 2023. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was conducted using CiteSpace and VOSviewer software. The analysis began with an evaluation of the selected publications, identifying leading countries, institutions, authors, and journals, as well as co-cited references, to summarize the current state of EEG research in PD. Keywords are employed to identify research topics that are currently of interest in this field through the analysis of high-frequency keyword co-occurrence and cluster analysis. Finally, burst keywords were identified to uncover emerging trends and research frontiers in the field, highlighting shifts in interest and identifying future research directions. Results A total of 1,559 publications on EEG research in PD were identified. The United States, Germany, and England have made notable contributions to the field. The University of London is the leading institution in terms of publication output, with the University of California closely following. The most prolific authors are Brown P, Fuhr P, and Stam C In terms of total citations and per-article citations, Stam C has the highest number of citations, while Brown P has the highest H-index. In terms of the total number of publications, Clinical Neurophysiology is the leading journal, while Brain is the most highly cited. The most frequently cited articles pertain to software toolboxes for EEG analysis, neural oscillations, and PD pathophysiology. Through analyzing the keywords, four research hotspots were identified: research on the neural oscillations and connectivity, research on the innovations in EEG Analysis, impact of therapies on EEG, and research on cognitive and emotional assessments. Conclusion This bibliometric analysis demonstrates a growing global interest in EEG research in PD. The investigation of neural oscillations and connectivity remains a primary focus of research. The application of machine learning, deep learning, and task analysis techniques offers promising avenues for future research in EEG and PD, suggesting the potential for advancements in this field. This study offers valuable insights into the major research trends, influential contributors, and evolving themes in this field, providing a roadmap for future exploration.

Abstract
Background The increasing utilization of endoscopic lumbar discectomy (ELD) in spinal surgery has sparked widespread interest and research. This study utilizes bibliometric analysis to identify current research trends and advancements in this innovative surgical technique, with the goal of informing and improving surgical practices. Methods We retrieved relevant literature on ELD from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database as research samples. Various visualization tools, such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Scimago Graphica, Pajek, and online bibliometric platform, were employed to generate scientific knowledge maps for the purpose of visual presentation and data analysis. Results Over the past two decades, there has been significant progress in the research related to ELD, particularly since 2016. China has emerged as the most productive country, while South Korea and the United States have exerted greater academic influence. Tongji University has contributed the highest number of research output, while academic achievements published by Wooridul Spine Hospital are highly esteemed by scholars. Lee SH and Ruetten S are the most prolific author and the most highly cited author, respectively. World Neurosurg has published the highest number of publications, while Spine has become the most influential journal. Clinical Neurology and Surgery are the primary subject categories. Research in this field primarily revolves around improving ELD techniques, evaluating postoperative efficacy and prognosis prediction, studying complications and risk factors, as well as comparative research with other surgical techniques. Keywords such as risk factors, LDH, PETD, lumbar spinal stenosis, degeneration, recurrent herniation, laminectomy, local anesthesia, and foraminoplasty highlight the current research hotspots and future cutting-edge trends. Conclusion This study employed bibliometric analysis to elucidate the research hotspots and frontiers in ELD. The findings have significant implications for advancing research and development in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Enteroviruses-infected hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) seriously threatens human health. This study aimed to analyze the research status, hotspots, and frontiers of HFMD. METHODS Publications on HFMD between January 1, 2006, and January 31, 2023, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core database. Bibliometric tools, including CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R package "Bibiometrix," SCImago Graphica, and Charticulator, were utilized to analyze and visualize the data. RESULTS A total of 1860 articles from 424 journals, involving 8815 authors from 64 countries and 1797 institutions were analyzed. The number of studies on HFMD has shown an increasing trend over the past 18 years, with an annual increase observed since 2006, which is particularly prominent after 2010. Research in this field has centered on the Asian region. Notably, the research hotspots were mainly focused on vaccines, epidemiology, and pathogenesis of HFMD. Among the researchers in this field, Zhang Yong emerged as the most prolific author, while Xu Wenbo had the most significant influence. The Chinese Academy of Sciences was the most productive institution, and China was the most productive country for HFMD research. CONCLUSION By bibliometric analysis, researchers in the HMFD field can efficiently identify and visually represent their research focus and limitations. In the future, it is crucial to maintain ongoing surveillance of HFMD outbreaks and their pathogenic changes. Additionally, future research should extensively explore the molecular mechanisms underlying Enteroviruses-induced HFMD with a focus on developing vaccines and therapies.

Abstract
Over the past 10 years, hip arthroscopy has been increasingly employed to effectively diagnose and safely treat a range of hip pathologies. With research related to hip arthroscopy continually expanding, the number of articles connected with hip arthroscopy has also consistently grown. We aimed to investigate trends and hotspots in hip arthroscopy-related research, and analyze the top 100 most-cited articles on hip arthroscopy. We searched for ("hip arthroscopy") AND ("article" OR "review") AND "English" in the Web of Science database from 1900 to 2022, which was used to obtain all publications relating to hip arthroscopy. Distribution of country, affiliated institution, journal, authors, citation frequency and keywords were analyzed using VOSviewer. A total of 1094 articles were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) from 1900 to 2022. The number of publications concerning hip arthroscopy displayed an ascending trend over time. Among the countries, the United States emerged as the largest contributor to the number of articles. The highest prolific institution was American Hip Institute. Among the journals, the highest-ranking journal was "Arthroscopy-the Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery," with 8316 citation counts and 262 articles. The area of greatest research interest was diagnosis and therapy in the field. The scientific articles on the subject of hip arthroscopy have risen continuously in recent years. The United States was the most influential country and made the most significant contributions to this field globally. We identified the research direction and trend for the first time and provided the most recent bibliometric analysis on hip arthroscopy, which may assist researchers in conducting studies on hip arthroscopy.

Abstract
Numerous studies related to esophagogastric junction cancer (EGC) have been published, and bibliometric analysis of these publications may be able to identify research hotspots and frontiers of EGC. Studies published on EGC between 2002 and 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The collaboration network of countries/regions, institutions, authors, co-citation network of journals, co-occurrence network, and overlay visualization of keywords were analyzed using the VOSviewer software. Cluster and timeline analyses of references were performed using the CiteSpace software. A total of 5109 English articles were published across 691 journals by authors affiliated with 4727 institutions from 81 countries/regions. The annual number of publications related to EGC research has exhibited an increasing trend. The United States, China, and Japan emerged as the top 3 prolific countries/regions. Institutions in the United States, Japan, and South Korea exhibited significant collaboration with one another. Diseases of the Esophagus was the most prolific journal, and Annals of Surgical Oncology, World Journal of Gastroenterology, and Gastric Cancer had also published more than 100 studies. Jaffer A Ajani was the most productive author while David Cunningham ranked the first in terms of total citations and average citations per article. Barrett's esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Helicobacter pylori, and obesity were common topics in earlier research, and recent years had seen a shift towards the topics of immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. In conclusion, growing attention is paid to EGC research, especially in terms of immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, affecting 32 million individuals worldwide. Although atrial fibrillation has been studied for decades, a comprehensive analysis using bibliometrics has not been performed for atrial fibrillation-left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). Therefore, we analyzed the scientific outputs of global LAAO research and explored the current research status and hotpots from 1994 to 2022. METHODS We searched the Web of Science core collection for publications related to LAAO that were published between 1994 and 2022. We then performed bibliometric analysis and visualization using Microsoft Excel 2021, Bibliometric (https://bibliometric.com), VOSviewer (version 1.6.19), CiteSpace (version 6.2. R2), and the Bibliometrix 4.0.0 Package (https://www.bibliometrix.org) based on the R language were used to perform the bibliometric analysis, trend and emerging foci of LAAO in the past 29 years, including author, country, institution, journal distribution, article citations, and keywords. In total, we identified 1285 eligible publications in the field of LAAO, with an increasing trend in the annual number of publications. RESULTS The United States is the country with the most published articles in this field, while the United Kingdom is the country with the most cited literature. Mayo Clinic, from the United States, has the most publications in this area and Horst Sievert from Germany had the highest number of individual publications. The analysis of keywords showed that fibrillation, stroke, safety, oral anticoagulants, and watchman were the main hotpots and frontier directions of LAAO. Surgical treatment of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, upgrading of related surgical instruments, and anticoagulation regimen after surgical treatment are the major research frontiers. CONCLUSION We show that the research of percutaneous LAAO has been increasing rapidly over the last decade. Our aim was to overview past studies in the field of LAAO, to grasp the frame of LAAO research, and identify new perspectives for future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The mechanism of liver X receptor in cancer has been gradually revealed in recent years. This study is committed to analyzing the current research status of the mechanism of liver × receptor in cancer progression by using bibliometric methods and to explore the development trend of liver × receptor related research in the future, in order to provide some reference for further exploration in this field. METHODS The Web of Science core collection database was used to carry out the original data retrieval. Excel software was used for data statistics. Vosviewer and CiteSpace software were used to analyze the publication situation, cooperation network, reference co-citation, keyword and term co-occurrence, term bursts, and cluster analysis, and draw visual maps. RESULTS A total of 631 publications meeting the research criteria were included by December 2022, with an average of 32.5 citations per paper. The main research fields were molecular biology, oncology and cell biology, and the papers were mainly published in journals about molecular, biology and immunology. Cell is the journal with the highest citation. The United States is the most influential country, the University of California, Los Angeles is the main research institution, and Gustafsson, Jan-ake is the author with the highest output. In reference co-citation clustering, cluster#2 "cancer development" is the main cluster, and the period from 2014 to 2018 is an important stage of relevant theoretical progress. "Tumor microenvironment" with high burst and novelty became the most noteworthy term in term burst. CONCLUSION Using bibliometric methods to reveal the current status of LXR and cancer mechanisms, and making predictions of possible future hotspots based on the analysis of the current situation, the translation of LXR anti-cancer research to clinical applications, the impact on the tumor microenvironment as a whole and more immune pathways, and the formation of a systematic cognition of the effects of more cancer cell lines and oncogenic signaling crosstalk, which is a possible direction for future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the main cause of irreversible vision loss in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), resulting in a certain burden to patients and society. With the increasing incidence of DME, more and more researchers are focusing on it. METHODS The papers related to DME between 2012 and 2022 from the Web of Science core Collection were searched in this study. Based on CiteSpace and VOS viewer, these publications were analyzed in terms of spatiotemporal distribution, author distribution, subject classification, topic distribution, and citations. RESULTS A total of 5165 publications on DME were included. The results showed that the research on DME is on a steady growth trend. The country with the highest number of published documents was the US. Wong Tien Yin from Tsinghua University was the author with the most published articles. The journal of Retina, the Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases had a large number of publications. The article "Mechanisms of macular edema: Beyond the surface" was the highly cited literature and "Aflibercept, bevacizumab, or ranibizumab for diabetic macular edema" had the highest co-citation frequency. The treatment, diagnosis, pathogenesis, as well as etiology and epidemiological investigation of DME, have been the current research direction. Deep learning has been widely used in the medical field for its strong feature representation ability. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed the important authoritative literature, journals, institutions, scholars, countries, research hotspots, and development trends in in the field of DME. This indicates that communication and cooperation between disciplines, universities, and countries are crucial. It can advance research in DME and even ophthalmology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infections occur in regional outbreaks every 3 to 7 years, lasting up to 2 years. Since this fall, there has been a significant rise in MP infections among children in China, indicating a regional epidemiological trend that imposes an increased national public health burden. To date, bibliometric methods have not been applied to studies on MP infection in children. METHODS We searched for all relevant English publications on MP pneumonia in children published from 2011 to 2023 using Web of Science. Analytical software tools such as Citespace and VOSviewer were employed to analyze the collected literature. RESULTS 993 articles on MP pneumonia in children were published in 338 academic journals by 5062 authors affiliated with 1381 institutions across 75 countries/regions. China led in global productivity with 56.19%. Among the top 10 prolific organizations, 8 were Chinese institutions, with Soochow University being the most active, followed by Capital Medical University and Zhejiang University. Zhimin Chen from Zhejiang University School of Medicine exhibited the highest H-index of 32. Keyword co-occurrence network analysis revealed 7 highly relevant clusters. CONCLUSION The current research hotspots and frontiers in this field are primarily MP pneumonia, refractory MP pneumonia, lactate dehydrogenase, asthma, and biomarker. We anticipate that this work will provide novel insights for advancing scientific exploration and the clinical application of MP pneumonia in children.

Abstract
Background Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD) is a form of idiopathic femoral head necrosis that can lead to permanent femoral head deformities and premature osteoarthritis in children under the age of 15. Its pathogenesis is utterly and remains to be clarified. Although many research publications on LCPD have emerged during the last few decades, few systematic bibliometric analyses of these articles have been reported. Methods A bibliometric analysis was performed to investigate the development processes and hotspots, as well as the collaboration and influence among countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords of papers relevant to LCPD from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) during the period from 1 January 2000 to 30 June 2023. Results A total of 2,205 researchers from 916 institutions across 53 countries/regions have contributed to 673 papers published in 199 academic journals. The research on LCPD has shown significant fluctuations but a gradual increase in the number of articles published over the last two decades. The United States leads in the number of publications of LCPD, with the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children being the most productive institution. English, as the most widely used language in the world, was undoubtedly the most popular language. Herring JA, who acted as both the corresponding and first author, has contributed to the most co-cited papers published. The most number of LCPD papers are published in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, whereas the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery American Volume garnered the highest total citations, indicating the great importance of these two journals in the field of orthopedics. The most frequently used keywords in published articles were related to the symptoms, mechanisms, and prognosis, revealing the research focus of most scholars. Conclusion Our research described the development trends and hotspots in the research field of LCPD and will help researchers make better decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The gut microbiota and its stability have important relationships with immunity. However, bibliometric analysis in this field is underdeveloped. This study aims to visualize publications related to the gut microbiota and immunity to identify research frontiers and hotspots, providing references and guidance for further research. METHODS Gut microbiota and immunity data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and Microsoft Excel, Scimago Graphica and VOSviewer software were used to analyze publication output trends, the most productive countries/regions, journals, authors, co-cited references, and keywords. RESULTS This study analyzed 16,611 publications, including 10,865 articles and 5746 reviews, and found a continuous increase in publications related to gut microbiota and immunity since 2013. We identified 62,872 authors contributing to this field from 2144 journals and 9965 organizations/institutions in 145 countries/regions. The top publisher with the highest output is University of California System with 525 papers. Among these journals, the top 3 most prolific journals are Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Microbiology, and PLOS ONE. The literature with the highest citation frequency is published in Science and has been cited 3006 times by Patrick M. Smith and others.Gut microbiota research hotspots include gut microbiota inflammation, immune response, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), and microbiota tumors. The gut microbiota and its microbial homeostasis play critical roles in immune reactions, inflammation, and even tumors and IBDs.Current research on gut microbiota and immunity is a popular field. Previous studies have shown that the gut microbiota and its microbial species have important effects on maintaining human health, immune function, inflammation, tumorigenesis, and IBDs. Understanding the roles of microbial communities and specific bacterial species as well as their interactions with humans has led to numerous discoveries that provide unique opportunities for exploring human health and future research. CONCLUSION This study used bibliometric and visualization analysis to identify the development trends and hotspots of publications related to the gut microbiota and immunity. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the emerging trends and future directions in this field.

Abstract
Objective Our study aimed to visualize the global status and frontiers in stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury by using bibliometric methodology. Methods Publication citation information related to stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury (SCI) studies between 2003 and 2022 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. For the visualized study, VOS viewer software and Graph Pad Prism 9.5 were used to perform bibliometric analysis of included data and publication number statistics in stem cell therapy for the SCI domain. Results A total of 6,686 publications were retrieved. The USA and China made the highest contributions to global research with the highest number of citations and link strength. The journal Experimental Neurology ranks as the top journal, combining the publication amount and bibliometrics results. The University of Toronto, based in Canada, was the first-ranking institution. The directions of the current study could be divided into five clusters. The research of Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine and Neurosciences Mechanism Research may be the emerging frontiers in this domain. Conclusion In summary, stem cell therapy for spinal cord injuries is poised for more valuable advances.

Abstract
There is a significant relationship between intestinal polyps and colorectal cancer, and in recent years, research on intestinal polyps has been rapidly developing around the world. However, there is still a lack of adequate quantification and analysis of publications in this field. The aim of this study was to perform a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of publications related to intestinal polyps over the past 20 years. To enhance the understanding of current research hotspots and potential trends, and to point out the direction of future research. Publications related to intestinal polyps were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded in Web of Science Core Collection. the Bibliometric online analysis platform (https://bibliometric.com/app), the Bibliometrix Package, and the CiteSpace are used for bibliometric analysis and visualization, including the overall range of annual output and annual citations, country-region analysis, author and institution analysis, core journal analysis, reference and keyword analysis. Prior to 2017, the amount of research on intestinal polyps was slow to grow, but it picked up speed after that year. In 1019 journals, 4280 papers on intestinal polyps were published in English. The journal with the highest productivity was Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (189, 4.42%). United States (1124, 26.26%), which is also the hub of collaboration in this subject, was the most productive nation. Mayo Clinic (n = 70, 1.64%) is the most productive institution. Intestinal microbiota, endoscopic mucosal resection, gut microbiota, deep learning, tea polyphenol, insulin resistance and artificial intelligence were current hot subjects in the field. Studies of intestinal polyps increased significantly after 2017. The United States contributed the largest number of publications. Countries and institutions were actively cooperating with one another. artificial intelligence is currently an emerging topic.

Abstract
Background The characteristics of disorders of consciousness (DOC) are changes in arousal and/or awareness caused by severe brain injuries. To date, the management of DOC patients remains a complex and challenging task, and neuromodulation techniques offer a promising solution. However, a bibliometric analysis focusing on neuromodulation techniques in DOC is currently absent. The aim of this study is to provide a bibliometric visualization analysis to investigate the research hotspots and frontiers in the field of neuromodulation techniques in DOC from 2012 to 2022. Methods The publications were collected and retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) from 2012 to 2022. CiteSpace and Microsoft Excel were utilized perform the first global bibliographic analysis of the literature related to neuromodulation techniques for DOC. Results The analysis included a total of 338 publications. From 2012 to 2022, a consistent yet irregular increase in the number of articles published on neuromodulation techniques in DOC was observed. Frontiers in Neurology published the highest number of papers (n = 16). Neurosciences represented the main research hotspot category (n = 170). The most prolific country, institution, and author were the USA (n = 105), the University of Liege (n = 41), and Laureys Steven (n = 38), respectively. An analysis of keywords revealed that UWS/VS, MCS, and TMS constituted the primary research trends and focal points within this domain. Conclusion This bibliometric study sheds light on the current progress and emerging trends of neuromodulation techniques in DOC from 2012 to 2022. The focal topics in this domain encompass the precise diagnosis of consciousness levels in patients suffering from DOC and the pursuit of efficacious neuromodulation-based evaluation and treatment protocols for such patients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Outcome measures using telerehabilitation (TR) in the context of post-stroke rehabilitation are an area of emerging research. The current review assesses the literature related to TR for patients requiring post-stroke rehabilitation. The purpose of this study is to survey the outcome measures used in TR studies and to define which parts of the International Organization of Functioning are measured in trials. METHODS TR studies were searched in Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Cochrane Library), the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) from 2016 to June 2023. Two reviewers individually assessed the full text. Discrepancies regarding inclusion or exclusion were resolved by an additional reviewer. RESULTS A total of 24 studies were included in the current review. The findings were synthesized and presented taking into account their implications within clinical practice, areas of investigation, and strategic implementation. CONCLUSIONS The scoping review has recognized a broad range of outcome measures utilized in TR studies, shedding light on gaps in the current literature. Furthermore, this review serves as a valuable resource for researchers and end users (such as clinicians and policymakers), providing insights into the most appropriate outcome measures for TR. There is a lack of studies examining the required follow-up after TR, emphasizing the need for future research in this area.
