Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, acute lung injury (ALI) and ARDS have emerged as critical health concerns, drawing considerable attention from clinicians. The volume of published articles on ALI/ARDS is on the rise, indicating the expanding research interest in this field. However, the precise quantity and quality of studies on ALI/ARDS remain unclear. Consequently, we employed bibliometric and visual techniques to comprehensively analyze the patterns and focal points of these articles. METHODS To investigate the characteristics of highly referenced papers on ALI/ARDS and offer insights into the progress and advancements in research on ALI/ARDS, we conducted a comprehensive search in the core Web of Science database for cited articles using the terms "ALI," "acute lung injury," "ARDS," or "acute respiratory distress syndrome." A total of 60,282 citations were retrieved by narrowing the scope to reviews, articles, and publications in English. From the obtained citations, we selected materials for analysis from the top 100 articles with the highest number of citations. Subsequently, the articles were visualized and analyzed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and bibliometric techniques. This analysis focused on identifying trends related to authors, journals, countries, institutions, collaborative networks, key words, and other relevant factors in the field of ALI/ARDS research. RESULTS Among the top 100 cited articles, the highest and lowest number of citations were 6,957 and 451, respectively. The 100 articles were published between 1991-2020, with a peak in publications observed in 2004, 2005, and 2012 (no. = 7). Among 29 journals, The New England Journal of Medicine (no. = 21) had the highest number of publications, followed by the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (no. = 14). Among the 29 countries represented in the top 100 cited articles, the United States (no. = 51) emerged as the leading country in the number of publications, followed by Canada (no. = 19) (there was some overlap in paper output between countries due to co-publication). The 3 predominant keywords identified in studies within the ALI/ARDS domain were ALI, mechanical ventilation, and PEEP. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a historical perspective on the scientific advancements in ALI/ARDS research, highlighting the need for further investigation and development in specific areas within the field. Bibliometric analyses revealed that the United States is the predominant force in the field of ALI/ARDS, contributing significantly to its development. Through an examination of highly cited papers on ALI/ARDS, we have identified global research trends, assessed the quality of studies, and identified hot topics in the field of ALI/ARDS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stroke is a heavy burden in modern society, and carotid artery disease is a major cause. The role of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the development and progression of carotid artery disease has become a popular research focus. However, there is no published bibliometric analysis to derive the main publication features and trends in this scientific area. We aim to conduct a bibliometric analysis to reveal current status of ECM in carotid artery disease and to predict future hot spots. METHODS We searched and downloaded articles from the Web of Science Core Collection with "Carotid" and "Extracellular Matrix" as subject words from 1990 to 2021. The complete bibliographic data were analyzed by Bibliometrics, BICOMB, gCLUTO and CiteSpace softwares. RESULTS Since 1990, the United States has been the leader in the number of publications in the field of ECM in carotid artery disease, followed by China, Japan and Germany. Among institutions, Institut National De La Sante Et De La Recherche Medicale Inserm, University of Washington Seattle and Harvard University are in the top 3. "Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology" is the most popular journal and "Circulation" is the most cited journal. "Clowes AW", "Hedin Ulf" and "Nilsson Jan" are the top three authors of published articles. Finally, we investigated the frontiers through the strongest citation bursts, conducted keyword biclustering analysis, and discovered five clusters of research hotspots. Our research provided a comprehensive analysis of the fundamental data, knowledge organization, and dynamic evolution of research about ECM in carotid artery disease. CONCLUSIONS The field of ECM in carotid artery disease has received increasing attention. We summarized the history of the field and predicted five future hotspots through bibliometric analysis. This study provided a reference for researchers in this fields, and the methodology can be extended to other fields.

Abstract
Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) has the third-highest incidence and second-highest mortality rate of all cancers worldwide. Early diagnosis and screening of CRC have been the focus of research in this field. With the continuous development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, AI has advantages in many aspects of CRC, such as adenoma screening, genetic testing, and prediction of tumor metastasis. Objective This study uses bibliometrics to analyze research in AI in CRC, summarize the field's history and current status of research, and predict future research directions. Method We searched the SCIE database for all literature on CRC and AI. The documents span the period 2002-2022. we used bibliometrics to analyze the data of these papers, such as authors, countries, institutions, and references. Co-authorship, co-citation, and co-occurrence analysis were the main methods of analysis. Citespace, VOSviewer, and SCImago Graphica were used to visualize the results. Result This study selected 1,531 articles on AI in CRC. China has published a maximum number of 580 such articles in this field. The U.S. had the most quality publications, boasting an average citation per article of 46.13. Mori Y and Ding K were the two authors with the highest number of articles. Scientific Reports, Cancers, and Frontiers in Oncology are this field's most widely published journals. Institutions from China occupy the top 9 positions among the most published institutions. We found that research on AI in this field mainly focuses on colonoscopy-assisted diagnosis, imaging histology, and pathology examination. Conclusion AI in CRC is currently in the development stage with good prospects. AI is currently widely used in colonoscopy, imageomics, and pathology. However, the scope of AI applications is still limited, and there is a lack of inter-institutional collaboration. The pervasiveness of AI technology is the main direction of future housing development in this field.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study was performed to evaluate trends in and provide future direction for anesthesiology education, research, and clinical practice. METHODS We collected high-impact papers, ranking in the top 10% in the field of anesthesiology and published from 2011 to 2020, by the InCites tool based on the Web of Science Core Collection. We analyzed the trends, locations, distribution of subject categories, research organizations, collaborative networks, and subject terms of these papers. RESULTS A total of 4,685 high-impact papers were included for analysis. The number of high-impact papers increased from 462 in 2011 to 520 in 2020. The paper with the highest value of category normalized citation impact (115.95) was published in Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2018. High-impact papers were mainly distributed in the subject categories of "Anesthesiology," "Clinical Neurology," "Neurosciences," and "Medicine General Internal." They were primarily cited in "Anesthesiology," "Clinical Neurology," "Neurosciences," "Medicine General Internal," and "Surgery." Most of these high-impact papers came from the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia. The most productive institutions were the League of European Research Universities, Harvard University, University of Toronto, University of London, University of California System, and University Health Network Toronto. Research collaboration circles have been formed in the USA, UK, and Canada. Subject-term analysis indicated postoperative analgesia, chronic pain, and perioperative complications were high-interest topics, and COVID-19 became a new hot topic in 2020. CONCLUSIONS The current study provides a historical view of high-impact papers in anesthesiology in the past ten years. High-impact papers were mostly from the USA. Postoperative analgesia, chronic pain, and perioperative complications have been hot topics, and COVID-19 became a new topic in 2020. These findings provide references for education, research, and clinical practice in the field of anesthesiology.

Abstract
Background The most prevalent cancer and the second-leading cause of cancer-related mortality in women is breast cancer. Growing interest has been shown in recent years in learning more about the processes behind the development of breast cancer. It has been shown that persistent inflammation may play a significant role in the advancement of breast cancer. However, a comprehensive and objective analysis on the state of inflammation in breast cancer research is still lacking. This study was aim to undertake a bibliometric analysis of breast cancer research associated with inflammation between 2013 and 2022 in order to identify the trends, dynamics, and scientific outputs in the field. Methods From 2013 to 2022, original and review publications on breast cancer and inflammation-associated research were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. To examine the position of yearly publications, journals, nations, institutions, and authors, we employed two bibliometric tools (CiteSpace and VOSviewer). After that, by examining keyword visualization and keyword bursts, we determined the hot research fields related to inflammation in breast cancer. Results we discovered 6902 publications regarding inflammation in breast cancer by using our retrieval approach. In terms of the number of publications, The United States ranked first in the global study, followed by China and Italy. In terms of institutions, the University of Texas System, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, and University of California System are in the top 3 for the quantity of publications published. The most popular journal for this field research is "CANCERS." Ueno NT, Woodward WA, Cristofanilli M, and others have made significant contributions to the understanding of inflammation in breast cancer. In the end, we conducted a biclustering analysis on keywords and discovered three clusters that represent research hotspots. Conclusion According to the global trend, the research output of inflammation in breast cancer is increasing. The information provided in this article, including the cooperation network information of authors, nations, journals, and institutions, may help researchers to better understand hotspots and developing patterns in this discipline. At present, the focus of study gradually shifts from "phenotype study" to "therapeutic research". It is recommended to pay attention to the latest hot spots, such as targeted therapy, antimicrobial activity and nanoparticle.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a clinical syndrome associated with mitochondria and lacks effective preventive and therapeutic measures. This bibliometric study aims to gain insight into the scientific findings regarding mitochondria in ALI/ARDS. METHODS We retrieved the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for mitochondria in ALI/ARDS publications from 2012-2021. VOSviewer, CiteSpace (5.8. R3) and Bibliometrix (3.1.4) R package were used for further analysis and visualization. RESULT A total of 756 English-language articles and reviews were identified. The annual number of publications presented a rapidly developing trend. China was the most productive and cited country, and the USA had the greatest impact. In the keyword co-occurring network, the terms "acute lung injury", "oxidative stress", "inflammation", "mitochondria" and "apoptosis" occurred most frequently. The co-citation network revealed that #1 mesenchymal stromal cell and #3 endothelial cell had the most bursts of citations. In addition, research hotspots have shifted from "potential therapeutic treatments" and "mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)" to "endothelial cell" and "mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)". CONCLUSION This bibliometric analysis reveals the research directions and frontier hotspots of mitochondria in ALI/ARDS, which has shown a rapid growth trend in annual publication numbers. mtDNA, mitophagy, and apoptosis have been the most active research areas, while studies on mitochondrial transfer in stem cells have become a hot topic in recent years.

Abstract
Background Pyroptosis is a lytic pro-inflammatory programmed cell death mode that depends on caspase, inflammasome, and Gasdermin D (GSDMD). A growing number of studies have shown that pyroptosis is closely related to the pathophysiological mechanism of lung. The purpose of this study is to analyze the literature from Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-expanded) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and visualize the current trends and hotspots in the research of pyroptosis in lung disease. Methods On February 20, 2022, we retrieved all articles on pyroptosis in lung disease from SCI-expanded of WoSCC. Original articles and reviews published in English from 2007 to 2021 were included in the analysis. VOSviewer 1.6.17 and CiteSpace 5.8.R2 were used to analyze the retrieved data and visualize the results. Result 1798 qualified original articles and reviews on pyroptosis in lung disease were included in the bibliometric analysis. So far, the research in this field is still in a period of growth, and the number of global publications has increased yearly. Among the 66 countries that have published relevant articles, China ranked first in the number of publications, and the USA ranked first in the number of cited articles. Holian,A. was the author with the largest number of articles, including 21 published. The University of California System in the USA was the organization with the largest number of articles, totaling 55. Frontiers in Immunology was the journal with the most publications in pyroptosis. After bibliometric analysis, the frequently used keywords are: “NOD-like receptor3 (NLRP3) inflammasome”, “inflammation”, “oxidative stress”, and “acute lung injury (ALI)”. Conclusion The research on pyroptosis in lung disease is in its growth stage. The information released in this article may help researchers better understand the hotspots and developmental trends in this field, the cooperation network information of authors, countries, and institutions, and the citation correlation between articles. With the in-depth study of the mechanism of pyroptosis, the focus has shifted to increasing research on the connections and influences of different diseases. So far, increasing attention has been paid to the research field of the relationship between ALI and pyroptosis related to COVID-19.

Abstract
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a group of devastating and progressive disorders, resulting in relentless increases in pulmonary vascular resistance. The number of studies related to PAH has been increasing in recent years. Our study aims to illustrate trends in PAH research over the past decade using bibliometric analysis. Science Citation Index-Expanded was adopted to search studies concerning PAH between 2011 and 2020. The bibliographic information was converted and analyzed automatically using a bibliometric package in R software and citespace. The annual quantity of publications on PAH showed an overall increase last decade. The United States was the most prolific country with 2,479 publications, and it was also the country that cooperated most with other countries. Hôpital Bicêtre made important research achievements on PAH and was a leader in study cooperation. Marc Humbert led the PAH field by publishing 150 articles in the past decade. During the past decade, there was a close transnational relation among countries or regions, institutions and authors. Further, Circulation was the most cited journal, followed by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, with 3,895, 3,406, and 3,170 citations, respectively. The global research status and trend of PAH are deeply understood for the first time using bibliometric and visual methods, and the results of our study bring us a valuable reference for clinical researchers. This is the first study to illustrate trends in pulmonary arterial hypertension research using bibliometric analysis. Our study provides extensive and in-depth directions for researchers. Our study may benefit further researches on the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Abstract
An increasing number of studies have shown that immunotherapy serves a significant role in treating colorectal cancer (CRC) and has become a hotspot. However, few studies used the bibliometric method to analyze this field comprehensively. This study collected 1,899 records of CRC immunotherapy from 2012 to October 31, 2021, and used CiteSpace to analyze regions, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords to predict the latest trends in CRC immunotherapy research. The United States and China, contributing more than 60% of publications, were the main drivers in this field. Sun Yat-sen University was the most active institution, while the National Cancer Institute had the highest frequency of citations. Most publications were published in the Journal for Immunotherapy of Cancer. Adam E Snook was the most prolific writer, while Dung T. Le was the most commonly co-cited author. “T cell”, “MMI” and “PD-1blocked” were the most widely studied aspects of CRC immunotherapy. “Immune checkpoint inhibitor”, “combination therapy”, “drug therapy” and “liver metastases” were current research hotspots. “Tumor microenvironment”, “neutrophils”, “tumor-associated macrophages”, and “suppressor cell” have emerged as research hotspots in recent years. “Gut microbiota”, “nanoparticle” and “tumor mutational burden” as recently emerged frontiers of research that should be closely monitored.

Abstract
Background Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM), but no bibliometric studies pertaining to DN have been published within the last 5 years. Objectives Most prior studies have focused on specific problems in the DN field. This study attempts to sort out and visualize the knowledge framework in this research space from a holistic and highly generalized perspective. Readers can quickly understand and master the knowledge regarding DN research conducted from 2016 to 2020, in addition to predicting future research hotspots and possible directions for development in this field in a comprehensive and scientifically valid manner. Methods Literature information, discourse matrices, and co-occurrence matrices were generated using BICOMB. gCLUTO was used for biclustering analyses and visualization. Strategic diagrams were generated using GraphPad Prism 5. The social network analysis (SNA) was analyzed and plotted using Ucinet 6.0 and Netdraw. Results In total, 55 high-frequency MeSH terms/MeSH subheadings were selected and grouped into 5 clusters in a biclustering analysis. These analyses revealed that extensive studies of the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of DN have been conducted over the last 5 years, while further research regarding DN-related single nucleotide polymorphisms, miRNAs, and signal transduction are warranted as these research areas remain relatively immature. Conclusion Together, these results outline a robust knowledge structure pertaining to the field of DN-related research over the last 5 years, providing a valuable resource for readers by enabling the easy comprehension of relevant information. In addition, this analysis highlights predicted DN-related research directions and hotspots.
