Biosynthesis and Biomedical Applications of Gold Nanoparticles Using Eclipta prostrata Leaf Extract

Antibacterial and hemocompatibility potentials of nano-gold-cored alginate preparation against anaerobic bacteria from acne vulgaris

Acne is a prevalent dermatological disease, with high global incidence, and is a health menace. The current study aimed to isolate and characterize the anaerobic bacteria responsible for the condition. Causes of a total of 70 acne-based bacterium isolates obtained from patients of mild, moderate, and severe acne, 24 were Clostridium innocuum, 21 were Lactobacillus plantarum, 13 were Anaerococcus prevotii, and 12 were Peptoniphilus asaccharolyticus. Nearly 69% of males were suffering, while the rest were females at 31%. The 15-30 years old age group was the most affected. The gold/alginate nanoparticles' nanopreparation (GANPs) produced from chloroauric acid and sodium alginate was an effective treatment against the acne conditions under the experimental conditions. The nanopreparation exhibited significant inhibitory activity against anaerobic bacterial isolates, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 200 µg/ml for A. prevotii and P. asaccharolyticus, and 400 µg/ml for C. innocuum and L. plantarum. The in vitro efficacy of the GANPs on human blood parameters was also assessed. The concurrent results suggested potential antibacterial activity and hemocompatibility of the product, which has promise to be used as a successful antibacterial agent for acne.

Gold nanoparticles embedded Fe-BTC (AuNPs@Fe-BTC) metal-organic framework as a fluorescence sensor for the selective detection of As(III) in contaminated waters

In this article, a new off-mode fluorescent platform based on the metal-organic framework (MOF) is introduced as a highly selective and rapid chemical sensor for the detection of As(III) in water and wastewater samples. A typical Fe-BTC (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate or trimesic acid) MOF was used as a porous template for loading gold nanoparticles (AuNPs@Fe-BTC MOF). The physicochemical properties of AuNPs@Fe-BTC MOF were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EAX), element mapping (MAP) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. This sensing method for As(III) ions is based on the fact that the fluorescence intensity of AuNPs@Fe-BTC MOF sensor decreases in proportion to the increase in As(III) concentration. The main effective factors on the performance of the sensor signal such as MOF dosage, sonication time, pH and reaction time were optimized. Under optimized conditions, the calibration graph was linear in the concentration range of 0.5-380 ng mL-1 of As(III) and the limit of detection was 0.2 ng mL-1. The proposed method was successfully validated by addition/recovery experiments by the determination of As(III) in four river water and two wastewater effluent samples.

Using Sparfloxacin-Capped Gold Nanoparticles to Modify a Screen-Printed Carbon Electrode Sensor for Ethanol Determination

Alcohol is a dangerous substance causing global mortality and health issues, including mental health problems. Regular alcohol consumption can lead to depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, and increased risk of alcohol-related disorders. Thus, monitoring ethanol levels in biological samples could contribute to maintaining good health. Herein, we developed an electrochemical sensor for the determination of ethanol in human salivary samples. Initially, the tetra-chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) was chemically reduced using sparfloxacin (Sp) which also served as a stabilizing agent for the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). As-prepared Sp-AuNPs were comprehensively characterized and confirmed by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and elemental mapping analysis. The average particle size (~25 nm) and surface charge (negative) of Sp-AuNPs were determined by using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and Zeta potential measurements. An activated screen-printed carbon electrode (A-SPE) was modified using Sp-AuNPs dispersion, which exhibited greater electrocatalytic activity and sensitivity for ethanol (EtOH) oxidation in 0.1 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). DPV showed a linear response for EtOH from 25 µM to 350 µM with the lowest limit of detection (LOD) of 0.55 µM. Reproducibility and repeatability studies revealed that the Sp-AuNPs/A-SPEs were highly stable and very sensitive to EtOH detection. Additionally, the successful electrochemical determination of EtOH in a saliva sample was carried out. The recovery rate of EtOH spiked in the saliva sample was found to be 99.6%. Thus, the incorporation of Sp-AuNPs within sensors could provide new possibilities in the development of ethanol sensors with an improved level of precision and accuracy.

Gold nanoparticles capped with L-glycine, L-cystine, and L-tyrosine: toxicity profiling and antioxidant potential

Biomolecules-based surface modifications of nanomaterials may yield effective and biocompatible nanoconjugates. This study was designed to evaluate gold nanoconjugates (AuNCs) for their altered antioxidant potential. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and their conjugates gave SPR peaks in the ranges of 512-525 nm, with red or blueshift for different conjugates. Cys-AuNCs demonstrated enhanced (p < 0.05) and Gly-AuNCs (p > 0.05) displayed reduced DPPH activity. Gly-AuNCs and Tyr-AuNCs displayed enhanced ferric-reducing power and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, respectively. Cadmium-intoxicated mice were exposed to gold nanomaterials, and the level of various endogenous parameters, i.e., CAT, GST, SOD, GSH, and MTs, was evaluated. GSH and MTs in liver tissues of the cadmium-exposed group (G2) were elevated (p < 0.05), while other groups showed nonsignificance deviations than the control group. It is concluded that these nanoconjugates might provide effective nanomaterials for biomedical applications. However, more detailed studies for their safety profiling are needed before their practical applications.

Mechanism and Antibacterial Activity of Gold Nanoparticles (AuNPs) Functionalized with Natural Compounds from Plants

Recently, the biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) has been widely studied and described. In the age of bacterial drug resistance, an intensive search for new agents with antibacterial properties or a new form of antibiotics with effective action is necessary. As a result, the antibacterial activity of AuNPs functionalized with natural compounds is being investigated more frequently. AuNPs biosynthesized with plant extract or functionalized with bioactive compounds isolated from plants could be particularly useful for pharmaceutical applications. The biosynthesized AuNPs are stabilized by an envelope, which may consist of flavonoids, phenolic acids, lipids and proteins as well as carbohydrates and vitamins. The composition of the natural coating affects the size, shape and stability of the AuNPs and is also responsible for interactions with the bacterial cell wall. Recently, several mechanisms of AuNP interactions with bacterial cells have been identified. Nevertheless, they are not yet well understood, due to the large diversity of plants and biosynthesized AuNPs. Understanding the antibacterial mechanisms allows for the creation of pharmaceutical formulations in the most useful form. Utilizing AuNPs functionalized with plant compounds as antibacterial agents is still a new concept. However, the unique physicochemical and biological properties of AuNPs emphasises their potential for a broad range of applications in the future.

Formulation of Cabotegravir Loaded Gold Nanoparticles: Optimization, Characterization to In-Vitro Cytotoxicity Study

The effective and preventive treatment of HIV is one of the difficult challenges worldwide. It requires the development of an effective prophylactic strategy to prevent HIV/AIDS. This study aimed to synthesize Cabotegravir (CAB)-biodegradable gold (Au) nanoparticles by using pectin as a reducer and stabilizer. CAB-GNPs were prepared by the slightly modified Turkevich method. CAB-GNPs were optimized using Box Behnken design for independent variables gold chloride (A), pectin (B) and pH range (C). The effects of independent variables were observed on particle size (Y1) and encapsulation efficiency (Y2). The results of the study revealed that the optimized nanoparticles (GLN7) had a particle size of 3.9 ± 0.1 nm and encapsulation efficiency of 97.2 ± 3.9%. TEM study showed the spherical shape particles. The in-vitro drug release revealed 62.1 ± 0.5% release of CAB in simulated gastric buffer (pH 1.2) and 45.5 ± 2.8% in physiological buffer (pH 7.4). In-vitro cytotoxicity study and antibacterial activity depicted the safety of the prepared NPs by showing lesser toxicity than pure CAB. From the results, our experimental outcomes concluded that CAB gold nanoparticles composed of pectin may constitute a preferred embodiment for the delivery of CAB.

Photothermal inactivation of universal viral particles by localized surface plasmon resonance mediated heating filter membrane

This study introduces localized surface plasmon resonance (L-SPR) mediated heating filter membrane (HFM) for inactivating universal viral particles by using the photothermal effect of plasmonic metal nanoparticles (NPs). Plasmonic metal NPs were coated onto filter membrane via a conventional spray-coating method. The surface temperature of the HFM could be controlled to approximately 40-60 °C at room temperature, owing to the photothermal effect of the gold (Au) NPs coated on them, under irradiation by visible light-emitting diodes. Due to the photothermal effect of the HFMs, the virus titer of H1Npdm09 was reduced by > 99.9%, the full inactivation time being < 10 min, confirming the 50% tissue culture infective dose (TCID50) assay. Crystal violet staining showed that the infectious samples with photothermal inactivation lost their infectivity against Mardin-Darby Canine Kidney cells. Moreover, photothermal inactivation could also be applied to reduce the infectivity of SARS-CoV-2, showing reduction rate of 99%. We used quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) techniques to confirm the existence of viral genes on the surface of the HFM. The results of the TCID50 assay, crystal violet staining method, and qRT-PCR showed that the effective and immediate reduction in viral infectivity possibly originated from the denaturation or deformation of membrane proteins and components. This study provides a new, simple, and effective method to inactivate viral infectivity, leading to its potential application in various fields of indoor air quality control and medical science.

Formation, antimicrobial activity, and biomedical performance of plant-based nanoparticles: a review

Because many engineered nanoparticles are toxic, there is a need for methods to fabricate safe nanoparticles such as plant-based nanoparticles. Indeed, plant extracts contain flavonoids, amino acids, proteins, polysaccharides, enzymes, polyphenols, steroids, and reducing sugars that facilitate the reduction, formation, and stabilization of nanoparticles. Moreover, synthesizing nanoparticles from plant extracts is fast, safe, and cost-effective because it does not consume much energy, and non-toxic derivatives are generated. These nanoparticles have diverse and unique properties of interest for applications in many fields. Here, we review the synthesis of metal/metal oxide nanoparticles with plant extracts. These nanoparticles display antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, and antioxidant properties. Plant-based nanoparticles are also useful for medical diagnosis and drug delivery.

Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Potential of Vernonia Cinerea Extract Coated AuNPs

Abstract

Green synthesis of nanoparticles is an important tool to reduce the harmful effects associated with traditional methods. In the present investigation, we have synthesised gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using aqueous extract prepared from fresh aerial parts (leaf and stem) of Vernonia cinerea as bioreducing agent. The visual indication of change in colour from pale yellow to brown to ruby-red indicated the successful formation of the AuNPs. Characterization of nanoparticles was carried out by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). UV-Vis spectra showed a specific peak at 546 nm which was the initial confirmation of the biosynthesized AuNPs. TEM images showed spherical and triangular shape of AuNPs with an average size of 25 nm. From FTIR spectrum, different functional groups were identified that could be responsible for the formation, stabilization, and capping of biosynthesized AuNPs. Aqueous plant extract and biosynthesised AuNPs were separately tested for their antimicrobial activity against six bacterial strains and four fungal strains. Biosynthesised AuNPs (2 mg/ml) showed significantly high zone of inhibition against the selected bacterial strains as compared to the aqueous plant extract. Maximum zone of inhibition (18.2 mm) was observed with AuNPs against Streptococcus pyogenes whereas comparatively less value (12.5 mm) was recorded with the plant extract. Interestingly, the inhibitory activity observed against bacterial strains was even better than ampicillin. Antifungal activity recorded with AuNPs (5 mg/ml) was maximum (17.4 mm) against R. oryzae and it was higher than positive control (17.00 mm) and plant extract (13.2 mm).The present study clearly showed that AuNPs coated with Vernonia cinerea extract were as good as positive control in inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth. In addition, these AuNPs also showed good antioxidant potential which was comparable to ascorbic acid.

Simple Equations Pertaining to the Particle Number and Surface Area of Metallic, Polymeric, Lipidic and Vesicular Nanocarriers

Introduction: Bioactive encapsulation and drug delivery systems have already found their way to the market as efficient therapeutics to combat infections, viral diseases and different types of cancer. The fields of food fortification, nutraceutical supplementation and cosmeceuticals have also been getting the benefit of encapsulation technologies. Aim: Successful formulation of such therapeutic and nutraceutical compounds requires thorough analysis and assessment of certain characteristics including particle number and surface area without the need to employ sophisticated analytical techniques. Solution: Here we present simple mathematical formulas and equations used in the research and development of drug delivery and controlled release systems employed for bioactive encapsulation and targeting the sites of infection and cancer in vitro and in vivo. Systems covered in this entry include lipidic vesicles, polymeric capsules, metallic particles as well as surfactant- and tocopherol-based micro- and nanocarriers.

Optimally biosynthesized, PEGylated gold nanoparticles functionalized with quercetin and camptothecin enhance potential anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and anti-angiogenic activities

BACKGROUND

The development of nano delivery systems is rapidly emerging area of nanotechnology applications where nanomaterials (NMs) are employed to deliver therapeutic agents to specific site in a controlled manner. To accomplish this, green synthesis of NMs is widely explored as an eco-friendly method for the development of smart drug delivery system. In the recent times, use of green synthesized NMs, especially metallic NMs have fascinated the scientific community as they are excellent carriers for drugs. This work demonstrates optimized green, biogenic synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for functionalization with quercetin (QT) and camptothecin (CPT) to enhance potential anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and anti-angiogenic activities of these drugs.

RESULTS

Gold nanoparticles were optimally synthesized in 8 min of reaction at 90 °C, pH 6, using 4 mM of HAuCl4 and 4:1 ratio of extract: HAuCl4. Among different capping agents tested, capping of AuNPs with polyethylene glycol 9000 (PG9) was found best suited prior to functionalization. PG9 capped AuNPs were optimally functionalized with QT in 1 h reaction at 70 °C, pH 7, using 1200 ppm of QT and 1:4 ratio of AuNPs-PG9:QT whereas, CPT was best functionalized at RT in 1 h, pH 12, AuNPs-PG9:CPT ratio of 1:1, and 0.5 mM of CPT. QT functionalized AuNPs showed good anti-cancer activity (IC50 687.44 µg/mL) against MCF-7 cell line whereas test of anti-inflammatory activity also showed excellent activity (IC50 287.177 mg/L). The CAM based assessment of anti-angiogenic activity of CPT functionalized AuNPs demonstrated the inhibition of blood vessel branching confirming the anti-angiogenic effect.

CONCLUSIONS

Thus, present study demonstrates that optimally synthesized biogenic AuNPs are best suited for the functionalization with drugs such as QT and CPT. The functionalization of these drugs with biogenic AuNPs enhances the potential anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and anti-angiogenic activities of these drugs, therefore can be used in biomedical application.

Nanographene enfolded AuNPs sophisticatedly synchronized polycaprolactone based electrospun nanofibre scaffold for peripheral nerve regeneration

Herein, we report the bioactivity of monodispersed nanosized reduced graphene oxide (RGO) enfolded gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) engineered polycaprolactone (PCL) based electrospun composite scaffolds. The 2D patterns of PCL based nanofibers prepared by the homogenous distribution of RGO-AuNPs exhibited unique topological and biological features such as mechanical properties, porous structure, large surface area, high electrical conductivity, biodegradability, and resemble the natural extracellular matrix (ECM) that supports the adhesion, growth, proliferation, and differentiation of stem cells. The prepared composite nanofibers based scaffolds containing RGO-AuNPs accelerated neuronal cell functions and confirmed that the optimized concentration showed cytocompatibility to PC12 and S42 cells. The 0.0005 wt% loading of RGO-AuNPs on PCL has a huge impact on neurite growth which leads to an almost one-fold increase in neurite length growth. The present study provides a new strategic design of highly efficient scaffolds that have a significant direct impact on cell activity and could be a potential bioimplant for peripheral nerve repair.

Polyphenolic Profile and Varied Bioactivities of Processed Taiwanese Grown Broccoli: A Comparative Study of Edible and Non-Edible Parts

Broccoli contains a substantial amount of bioactive compounds such as glucosinolates, phenolics, and essential nutrients, which are positively linked to health-promoting effects. This work aimed to evaluate whether both edible and non-edible parts of broccoli could be effective by examining in vitro antioxidant, cytotoxic, apoptotic, and antibacterial properties of its floret, leaf, and seed extracts (FE, LE, and SE, correspondingly). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and various assays exhibited strong antioxidant activities of all samples. LE obtained the highest capacity, correlated to its polyphenolic contents. SE exerted significant cytotoxicity against A549, Caco-2, and HepG2 cancer cell lines at low inhibitory concentration (IC)₅₀ values (0.134, 0.209, and 0.238 mg/mL, respectively), as tested by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Flow cytometry confirmed apoptosis induction of extracts in Caco-2 cells by revealing an increased subG1 population and a decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. The considerable antibacterial efficacy was observed in either LE and SE against Bacillus subtilis and Salmonella typhimurium (0.39-0.78 mg/mL) using well-agar diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) techniques, along with the weak activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli (1.56-3.13 mg/mL). The findings suggest that broccoli and its byproducts might serve as a promising source for further development of food or pharmaceutical products.

Method development for optimised green synthesis of gold nanoparticles from Millettia pinnata and their activity in non-small cell lung cancer cell lines

Green synthesis of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) has received substantial attention, because nanoparticles are produced in an eco-friendly way using biomolecules present in plant extracts in a single step reaction. This research article highlights GNPs obtained using shade-dried leaf extracts of Millettia pinnata (L.) with aqueous auric chloride (HAuCl₄) at ambient temperature. In the present study, GNPs with average particle size 37 nm in size were fabricated. Furthermore, the synthesis method to obtain stable and monodispersed GNPs was advanced by optimising enzyme concentration 100 μg/ml, pH 5.4, substrate concentration 0.45 mM and 12 h time of reaction. The confirmation of GNPs formation and characterisation was followed by UV-vis-absorption spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential (ZP) for the analysis of shape, size, and stability, respectively. TEM images and powder XRD revealed the GNPs synthesis of spherical-shaped nanoparticles in the face-centred cubic arrangement. Cytotoxicity of GNPs was studied against A549 lung cancer cells with IC₅₀ 14.76 μg/ml and found lower as compared to doxorubicin IC₅₀ 11.23 μg/ml but significant enough to be used as a vehicle GNPs produced using green source can be used as significant therapeutic agents and drug delivery carriers.

Facile Sonochemical Preparation of Au-ZrO2 Nanocatalyst for the Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol

High-intensity ultrasonic waves have great potential for the green synthesis of various nanomaterials under mild conditions and offer an excellent alternative for hazardous chemical methods. Herein a facile approach for the eco-friendly synthesis of Au-ZrO2 nanocatalyst with a high catalytic activity using a facile ultrasonic method is presented. Gold (Au) in the nanosize regime was successfully deposited on the surface of solvothermally synthesized monodispersed ZrO2 nanoparticles (ZrO2 NPs) in a very short period of time (5 min) at room temperature. Spherical shape small size Au nanoparticles that are uniformly dispersed on the surface of ZrO2 nanoparticles were obtained. Notably, in the absence of ZrO2 nanoparticles, HAuCl4 could not be reduced, indicating that nano-sized ZrO2 not only acted as support but also helped to reduce the gold precursor at the surface. The as-prepared Au-ZrO2 nanocatalyst was characterized by various techniques. The Au-ZrO2 nanocatalyst served as a highly efficient reducing catalyst for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. The reaction time decreased with increasing the amount of catalyst.

Molecular reactors for synthesis of polymeric nanocomposites with noble metal nanoparticles for catalytic decomposition of 4-nitrophenol

HYPOTHESIS

A new, facile in-situ method for synthesis of polymeric nanocomposites (NCs) with nanoparticles (NPs) of Au, Pt and Pd is proposed. The method involves reduction-coupled sorption of Au(III), Pt(VI), and Pd(II), which avoids diffusion limitations, allowing the precipitation and stabilization of the NPs directly in the polymeric matrix.

EXPERIMENTS

The obtained nanomaterials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier-transformation infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). NPs loaded into polymers were also investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD).

FINDINGS

Based on the results, it was concluded that the amino functionalities simultaneously reduced noble metals ions and capped the NPs. The average diameter of the obtained AuNPs ranged from 25 to 109 nm, while reduction-coupled sorption was carried out in 1 and 3 mol L^-1 HCl solutions, respectively. Applying a 0.1 mol L^-1 HCl solution containing Au(III), Pd(II) and Pt(VI), a NC with AuNPs and cubic-like PdNPs was fabricated, while using a solution of the same composition, but in 3 mol L^-1 HCl, resulted in formation of a NC with flower-like PtNPs. Ultimately, the selected NC based on a resin with functionalities derived from 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine and with bi-metallic active sites, i.e. AuNPs and PdNPs, revealed catalytic activity in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol.

Nanomaterials-Based Electrochemical Sensors for In Vitro and In Vivo Analyses of Neurotransmitters

Neurotransmitters are molecules that transfer chemical signals between neurons to convey messages for any action conducted by the nervous system. All neurotransmitters are medically important; the detection and analysis of these molecules play vital roles in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Among analytical strategies, electrochemical techniques have been identified as simple, inexpensive, and less time-consuming processes. Electrochemical analysis is based on the redox behaviors of neurotransmitters, as well as their metabolites. A variety of electrochemical techniques are available for the detection of biomolecules. However, the development of a sensing platform with high sensitivity and selectivity is challenging, and it has been found to be a bottleneck step in the analysis of neurotransmitters. Nanomaterials-based sensor platforms are fascinating for researchers because of their ability to perform the electrochemical analysis of neurotransmitters due to their improved detection efficacy, and they have been widely reported on for their sensitive detection of epinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, glutamate, acetylcholine, nitric oxide, and purines. The advancement of electroanalytical technologies and the innovation of functional nanomaterials have been assisting greatly in in vivo and in vitro analyses of neurotransmitters, especially for point-of-care clinical applications. In this review, firstly, we focus on the most commonly employed electrochemical analysis techniques, in conjunction with their working principles and abilities for the detection of neurotransmitters. Subsequently, we concentrate on the fabrication and development of nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors and their advantages over other detection techniques. Finally, we address the challenges and the future outlook in the development of electrochemical sensors for the efficient detection of neurotransmitters.

Ethnopharmacological uses, phytochemistry, biological activities, and biotechnological applications of Eclipta prostrata

Eclipta prostrata belongs to a family of medicinal plants (Asteraceae) and plays a role in the treatment of several diseases, including infectious hepatitis, snake venom poisoning, gastritis, and respiratory diseases such as a cough and asthma. A number of compounds, including thiophene derivatives, steroids, triterpenes, flavonoids, polyacetylenes, polypeptides, and coumestans, have been isolated from E. prostrata. The plant functional compounds can act as reducing agent in the field of nanoparticle synthesis. The extracts of E. prostrata are widely used for green biosynthesis of various metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, nanoparticles, which showed a potential for pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and biomedical applications. Establishment of a efficient in vitro regeneration and genetic transformation method of E. prostrata is a vital prerequisite for application of biotechnology in order to improve secondary metabolite yields. The present mini-review discusses its pharmacological profile, chemical constituents, biotechnological, and ethnomedical uses, mainly focusing on antimyotoxic, antihemorrhagic, antiproliferative, antioxidant, antitumor, antihyperglycemic, antidementia, antimicrobial, antihyperlipidemic, antivenom, anti-HIV, and larvicidal activities, so that the pharmaceutical potential of the plant can be better evaluated. The mini review, providing up-to-date phytochemical and other information on E. prostrata, will serve a reference for further studies.
