Abstract
BACKGROUND Euphorbia helioscopia L (EHL), a widely used medicinal plant in traditional Chinese medicine, has shown promising effects on certain cancers. However, previous studies on EHL did not elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Herein, for the first time, we present the strong therapeutic potential of EHL extracts on malignant hemangioendothelioma, a rare type of vascular tumor. PURPOSE To investigate the potential anti-tumor mechanism of extracts of EHL on hemangioendothelioma and melanoma. METHODS The dried stems and leaves of EHL were extracted with Ethyl Acetate and n-Butyl alcohol, yielding two crude extracts Ethyl Acetate fraction (EA) and n-Butyl alcohol fraction (Bu). EA and Bu were prepared to assess the potential mechanism by assays for cell proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis, colony formation, tube formation, cellular metabolic activity, reactive oxygen species (ROS), N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) antagonism, RNA expression and western blot. To further confirm the anti-tumor effect of EHL in vivo, we established hemangioendothelioma and melanoma tumor-bearing mouse model using node mice and administered with EA and Bu, tracked alterations in tumor volume and survival rate. Furthermore, tissue samples were obtained for histological, protein, and genetic investigations. RESULTS We demonstrate that the injection of EA and Bu, significantly inhibits tumor growth and prolongs the lifespan of tumor-bearing mice. Bu treatment exhibited a remarkable 33 % healing effect on the primary hemangioendothelioma tumor, bringing the survival rate to a level comparable to that of healthy mice. Mechanically, both EA and Bu impair respiratory chain complexes, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in DNA damage, cell apoptosis, and finally blocked angiogenesis. While EA demonstrates robust inhibitory effects on cancer cell growth and a broader impact on metabolism in vitro, the in vivo effect of Bu surpasses that of EA in terms of strength. EA and Bu also exhibit potent anti-tumor effects on a primary melanoma model by inhibiting angiogenesis. Importantly, when compared to other compounds used in the treatment of hemangioendothelioma, EA and Bu demonstrate more profound anti-tumor effects. CONCLUSION For the first time, our findings reveal that EHL extracts, especially the high polarity compounds, exhibit potent anti-tumor effects by targeting cellular metabolism, specifically through the inhibition of mitochondria-related metabolic activities. This leads to the accumulation of ROS and effectively suppresses abnormal angiogenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) are common benign vascular tumors in infants. Apelin, an endogenous cytokine, is implicated in the angiogenesis of neoplastic diseases. We aimed to explore the association between apelin and IHs, providing a foundation for clinical applications. METHODS We identified differential expression of apelin in proliferative IHs compared to healthy controls (HCs) through bioinformatics analysis of publicly available databases and verified by Immunofluorescence. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to quantify the serum levels of apelin and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in a cohort of 116 cases of proliferative IHs, 65 cases of capillary malformations (CMs), and 70 HCs. RESULTS Apelin and APJ (APLNR, apelin receptor) were identified as the significantly upregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in proliferative IHs. Immunofluorescence staining indicated high expression of apelin in proliferative IHs, while minimal expression in non-IH lesions. Apelin in IHs was reduced following 6 months of propranolol treatment. Serum apelin levels were significantly higher in the IH group compared to both the CM and HC groups. Moreover, apelin exhibited excellent discriminatory ability in distinguishing IHs from HCs, with an area under the curve (AUC) exceeding 0.90. A positive correlation was observed between the levels of apelin and the size of superficial IHs. The expression profiles of VEGF and apelin in IHs were found to be consistent. CONCLUSIONS Apelin shows promise as a potential biomarker for IHs. The association between apelin and IH size, as well as its responsiveness to propranolol treatment, indicates its possible utility as a valuable indicator for the therapeutic evaluation of IHs.

Abstract
Infantile hemangioma (IH), a benign microvascular tumor, is marked by early and extensive proliferation of immature hemangioma endothelial cells (Hem-ECs) that naturally regress through differentiation into fibroblasts or adipocytes. However, a challenge persists, as the unique biological behavior of IH remains elusive, despite its general sensitivity to propranolol treatment. Recent evidence suggests that abnormal volume proliferation in IH is primarily attributed to the accumulation of hemangioma pericytes (Hem-Pericytes), in addition to Hem-ECs. Centromere protein F (CENPF) is involved in regulating mitotic processes and has been associated with malignant tumor cell proliferation. It is a key player in maintaining genomic stability during cell division. Our findings revealed specific expression of CENPF in Hem-Pericytes, with a proliferation index (PI) approximately half that of Ki67 (3.28 vs 6.97%) during the proliferative phase of IH. This index decreased rapidly in the involuting phase (P < .05), suggesting that the contribution of pericytes to IH development was comparable to that of Hem-ECs. Tumor expansion and shrinkage may be due to the proliferation, reduction, and differentiation of Hem-Pericytes. In conclusion, we speculate CENPF as a novel marker for clinical pathological diagnosis and a potential therapeutic target, fostering advancements in drug development.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This case study evaluates a focal osteolytic lesion in the right sulcus sinus transversi of an isolated os occipitale. MATERIALS The os occipitale is from a juvenile from the Cueva de Sangre at the Classic Period (250-900 CE) site of Dos Pilas, Guatemala METHODS: The lesion was examined macroscopically, microscopically, and radiographically. RESULTS The oval lesion has a well-circumscribed margin, endocranial origin, and involves cortical destruction of the inner and outer tables. Subperiosteal bone reaction around the lesion is present on the ectocranial surface. Skeletal evidence of increased vascularity, diploë expansion, and perimortem fracture near the lesion are not observed. CONCLUSIONS The lesion appears to reflect a response to the presence of an expansile process that has caused pressure erosion. The anatomical location of the lesion and the endocranial origin suggest a probable vascular anomaly, such as a vascular malformation. SIGNIFICANCE This case study represents one of the few bioarchaeological evaluations of probable vascular anomaly in a juvenile. As such, it expands our knowledge about vascular anomalies in the past and provides a comparative and core reference for guiding future paleopathological investigations on cranial osteolytic lesions. LIMITATIONS The skeletal assemblage is commingled and fragmentary preventing the assessment of the distribution of lesions across the skeleton. SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH Further scrutiny of bioarchaeological collections is needed to better understand the distribution of vascular anomalies in the past.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sclerotherapy is purportedly less effective in patients with hemorrhagic than with non-hemorrhagic lymphatic malformations (LMs). We aimed to compare the efficacy of bleomycin-lauromacrogol foam (BLF) sclerotherapy in the treatment of macrocystic LMs with and without intralesional hemorrhage. METHODS Fifty-five children with macrocystic LMs admitted to the Pediatric Surgery Department were retrospectively included. The patients were allocated into a hemorrhage group (23 cases) or a non-hemorrhage group (32 cases) based on the occurrence of an intracapsular hemorrhage. The diagnosis was confirmed by physical examination, color ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and puncture findings. BLF was injected into the capsule after draining the cystic fluid under color ultrasound guidance. Patients whose lesions were unchanged or showed minor change after 1 month were treated again using the same method. Changes in lesion size and the number of treatments were recorded. Effectiveness was classified as excellent (volume reduction ≥90%), good (50%≤volume reduction<90%), or poor (volume reduction <50%). RESULTS In the hemorrhage group, 17, 6, and 0 patients' outcomes were classified as excellent, good, and poor, respectively. The overall efficacy rate was 100%. In the non-hemorrhage group, 23, 7, and 2 patients' outcomes were classified as excellent, good, and poor, respectively. The overall efficacy rate was 93.8%. There was no significant difference in efficacy rate between groups (P = 0.767). CONCLUSIONS BLF is an effective and safe treatment for macrocystic LMs with bleeding. The results were similar in patients with and without bleeding. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Treatment, Level III.

Abstract
Genomic technologies are now utilized for the genetic diagnosis of vascular anomalies. This provides the opportunity for genetic counselors to make a significant contribution to patient care for this complex disease. The aim of this study was to explore Australian healthcare professionals' perspectives on the relatively recent integration of molecular diagnostic testing for vascular anomalies, with or without genetic counseling support. Nine semi-structured interviews were conducted with Australian healthcare professionals involved in the provision of care for individuals with vascular anomalies. Thematic analysis identified six themes: (1) Molecular diagnosis is beneficial; (2) psychosocial needs can motivate families to pursue a molecular diagnosis; (3) molecular genetic testing for vascular anomalies is complex; (4) genetic service provision is not a one size fits all; (5) a client-centered approach for genetic service provision can go a long way; and (6) the value of genetic counselors. Based on our findings, implementation of a vascular anomalies genetic diagnostic program inclusive of genetic counseling may be challenging, yet such programs are likely to benefit both patients and their families, as well as healthcare professionals. As this paradigm shift unfolds, genetic counselors have an opportunity to contribute to the vascular anomaly field by educating healthcare professionals and patients, by participating in multidisciplinary clinics to support complex cases and by raising awareness regarding their practice and potential contributions.

Abstract
Benign cutaneous tumors are commonly seen in daily practice. Most of these lesions are diagnosed based on clinical appearance, but in some cases, clinical findings are nonspecific. A diagnostic imaging exam is indicated to provide additional information, and the first choice for studying dermatologic lesions is a high-frequency color Doppler ultrasound, a noninvasive technique that can play a relevant role in all cases and give important anatomical information for final diagnosis and proper clinical management. This article aims to show the most common benign skin lesions emphasizing clinical-sonographic correlation and familiarizing radiologists with the sonographic appearance of the key benign cutaneous tumors.

Abstract
Ultrasound (US) is the imaging modality of choice for evaluation of superficial palpable lesions. A large proportion of these lesions have characteristic sonographic appearance and can be confidently diagnosed with US without the need for biopsy or other intervention. The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) recently published a Consensus Conference Statement on superficial soft tissue masses. The goal of this manuscript is (a) to serve as a sonographic pictorial review for palpable lesions based on the SRU statement, (b) present the typical sonographic features of palpable lesions that can be confidently diagnosed with US, and (c) provide an overview of other palpable lesions with a framework to interpret the US studies and advise on appropriate further management.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Low-flow vascular lesions are commonly encountered in the oral cavity and may require removal due to aesthetic concerns, repeated bleeding or a cluttering sensation. Laser devices represent an excellent aid due to their affinity with blood and to their biostimulating properties and have been substituting traditional excision in selected cases. Materials and Methods: In this study, 30 patients presenting with low-flow oral vascular lesions were included. The lesions were clinically evaluated as follows: lesion's site, reason for treatment, lesion's dimensions, confirmation of positive diascopy via compression with a glass slide and photograph. The lesions were treated with laser forced dehydration (LFD) and then followed-up after 3 weeks, 6 months and 1 year. The laser source was a K-Laser Blu Derma (Eltech, K-Laser S.r.l., Via Castagnole, 20/H, Treviso, Italy). In the case of incomplete healing, a further protocol was performed at the three-week follow-up, and a further follow-up was scheduled for three weeks after. The following aspects were evaluated at each appointment: pain, using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) from 0 to 10 (0 = no pain, 10 = worst pain ever); the need to take painkillers (day of intervention and during follow-up); bleeding (yes/no); scar formation. Results: Complete regression was obtained in all patients, with no side effects. Only one patient required a second LFD protocol. NRS was 0 for all patients for the whole duration of the follow-up. None of the patients took painkillers on the day of the intervention and during the follow-up. One patient declared slight bleeding the day of the intervention, which she easily managed at home. One patient showed a small non-retracting and non-painful scar at the three-week follow-up. No recurrences were found after six months and one year. Conclusions: LFD targets endogenous chromophores, minimizing damage to adjacent tissue and limiting side effects. LFD is effective and could be considered a conservative alternative to traditional excision in low-flow lesions.

Abstract
Vascular malformations are intricate anomalies of the circulatory system, presenting a diverse array of clinical manifestations, and posing significant challenges in diagnosis and treatment. The pathogenesis of vascular malformations is explored through the lens of genetic and molecular mechanisms, shedding light on the pivotal role of somatic mutations and dysregulated signaling pathways. Clinical presentations of vascular malformations are widely variable, ranging from cosmetic concerns to life-threatening complications. The utility of imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and angiography, are discussed in detail, emphasizing their role in precise delineation and characterization. Therapeutic strategies for vascular malformations are multifaceted, considering factors such as lesion size, location, potential complications, and patient-specific factors. Traditional interventions, including surgical excision and embolization, are appraised alongside emerging approaches like targeted molecular therapies and minimally invasive procedures. The manuscript underscores the need for an individualized treatment approach, optimizing outcomes while minimizing risks and complications. In summation, this manuscript offers a comprehensive analysis of vascular malformations, encompassing their underlying pathogenesis, clinical nuances, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic considerations. By synthesizing current knowledge and highlighting gaps in understanding, this review serves as a valuable resource for clinicians, researchers, and medical practitioners, fostering an enhanced comprehension of vascular malformations and paving the way for improved patient care and innovative research endeavors.

Abstract
Diagnosis and therapy of orbital diseases is an interdisciplinary challenge, in which i.e. otorhinolaryngologists, ophthalmologists, radiologists, radiation therapists, maxillo-facial surgeons, endocrinologists, and pediatricians are involved. This review article describes frequent diseases which both, otolaryngologists and ophthalmologists are concerned with in interdisciplinary settings. In particular the inflammatory diseases of the orbit including orbital complications, autoimmunological diseases of the orbit including Grave´s orbitopathy, and primary and secondary tumors of the orbit are discussed. Beside describing the clinical characteristics and diagnostic steps the article focusses on the interdisciplinary therapy. The review is completed by the presentation of most important surgical approaches to the orbit, their indications and possible complications. The authors tried to highlight the relevant facts despite the shortness of the text.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS) is an overgrowth disorder that exhibits etiologic genomic imprinting characterized by molecular heterogeneity and phenotypic variability. Associations with localized developmental dysplastic chondromatous lesions and cortical neuronal heterotopias have not previously been described. CASE PRESENTATION A 33-week gestational age female had an omphalocele and intractable hypoglycemia at birth. The placenta demonstrated placental mesenchymal dysplasia. Detection of hypermethylation of IC1 and hypomethylation of IC2 confirmed Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, most likely due to uniparental disomy. Additional findings included right mid-tibial and right 5-8th developmental dysplastic chondromatous lesions, absent corpus callosum and numerous right-sided cortical neuronal heterotopias, right hemihypertrophy, multiple cystic hepatic mesenchymal hamartomas and hepatic infantile hemangiomas, nisidioblastosis and cystic pancreatic lesions. The infant died with multi-organ failure and anasarca at 7 weeks of life. CONCLUSION Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome anomalies may include multifocal developmental dysplastic chondromatous lesions and cerebral neuronal heterotopias, lateralized, and corpus callosum aplasia.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide a comprehensive review of the current strategies in the management of laryngeal hemangiomas, with an aim to introduce a management algorithm that aligns with the variable clinical presentations and anatomical complexities of these lesions. METHODS We conducted an extensive literature search across major databases using specific and general terms, combined with Boolean operators, to ensure comprehensiveness. Articles from January 2004 to August 2023 were included, with findings categorized by management approach. RESULTS Laryngeal hemangiomas exhibit a spectrum of manifestations, ranging from asymptomatic lesions to those causing severe airway obstruction. Optimal management demands an individualized approach tailored to the patient's unique presentation and anatomical considerations. Diverse treatment modalities, each with distinct indications, advantages, and limitations, are explored. Notable highlights encompass the prominent role of Beta-blockers, notably Propranolol, in addressing problematic infantile hemangiomas, the nuanced efficacy of laser therapies contingent upon hemangioma type and depth, and the critical relevance of tracheotomy in emergencies. Novel approaches like transoral robotic surgery and transoral ultrasonic surgery, demonstrate promise in specific scenarios. We propose a management algorithm based on the complexity and presentation of laryngeal hemangiomas, emphasizing individualized treatment strategies, thereby addressing the unique challenges and nuances of each case. CONCLUSION Laryngeal hemangioma management requires personalized approaches informed by diverse therapies, clinical expertise, and collaboration. The review introduces an algorithm spanning observation to advanced interventions, adapting to each case's complexity. Ongoing research promises innovative treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare congenital neurocutaneous disorder characterized by the simultaneous presence of both cutaneous and extracutaneous capillary malformations. SWS usually presents as a facial port-wine birthmark, with a varying presence of leptomeningeal capillary malformations and ocular vascular abnormalities. The latter may lead to significant neurological and ocular morbidity such as epilepsy and glaucoma. SWS is most often caused by a somatic mutation involving the G protein subunit alpha Q or G protein subunit alpha 11 gene causing various alterations in downstream signaling pathways. We specifically conducted a comprehensive review focusing on the current knowledge of clinical practices, the latest pathophysiological insights, and the potential novel therapeutic avenues they provide. DATA SOURCES A narrative, non-systematic review of the literature was conducted, combining expert opinion with a balanced review of the available literature. A search of PubMed, Google Scholar and Embase was conducted, using keywords "Sturge-Weber Syndrome" OR "SWS", "Capillary malformations", "G protein subunit alpha 11" OR "G protein subunit alpha Q". RESULTS One of the hallmark features of SWS is the presence of a port-wine birthmark at birth, and forehead involvement is most indicative for SWS. The most common ocular manifestations of SWS are glaucoma and choroidal hemangioma. Glaucoma presents in either in infancy (0-3 years of age) or later in life. Neurological complications are common in SWS, occurring in about 70%-80% of patients, with seizures being the most common one. SWS significantly impacts the quality of life for patients and their families, and requires a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis and treatment. Currently, no disease-modifying therapies exist, and treatment is mostly focused on symptoms or complications as they arise. CONCLUSIONS: SWS remains a complex and heterogeneous disorder. Further research is needed to optimize diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, and to translate insights from molecular pathogenesis to clinical practice.

Abstract
Key Clinical Message Conjunctival hemangioma and lymphangioma are rare and their long-term follow-up description has been scarce. In our two patients, conjunctival vascular and lymphatic malformations remained stable in decades and could be observed without treatment. Abstract A 65-year-old woman with diabetic retinopathy underwent glaucoma surgery to construct a filtering bleb adjacent to conjunctival hemangioma, and showed bleb function and stable hemangioma for a decade. A 1.5-year-old girl with right eye lid and cheek swelling by orbital to facial lymphangioma was followed for visual acuity development. Conjunctival lymphangioma was stable in 20 years.

Abstract
Craniomaxillofacial vascular anomalies encompass a diverse and complex set of pathologies that may have a profound impact on pediatric patients. They are subdivided into vascular tumors and vascular malformations depending on biological properties, clinical course, and distribution patterns. Given the complexity and potential for leading to significant functional morbidity and esthetic concerns, a multidisciplinary approach is generally necessary to optimize patient outcomes. This article reviews the etiology, clinical course, diagnosis, and current management practices related to vascular anomalies in the head and neck.

Treatment of oral vascular anomalies (OVA) has focused on minimally invasive techniques rather than radical surgery. We investigated the efficacy and safety of diode laser using the photocoagulation technique in the management of OVA. Forty-seven subjects with OVA were treated with forced dehydration with induced photocoagulation (FDIP) using diode laser (808 nm/4.5 W). This series consisted mostly of male (63.8%) and non-white (63.8%) patients with a mean age of 57.4 years. Varices (91.5%), venous malformations (6.4%), and hemangiomas (2.1%) with a mean size of 7.1 (±4.9) mm were the conditions treated. OVA presented as a nodular lesion (63.8%) involving mainly the lower lip (46.8%). Pulsed laser mode was used as standard and the number of applications varied from one to four sessions, with the majority requiring only one (83%) FDIP session. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that complete clinical healing can occur on the 15th day (n=9/29.5%), followed by the 20th (n=6/45.5%), and 30th (n=7/70.5%) days. Postoperative edema was observed in 31 (66%) patients, and recurrence of the lesion occurred in two (4.2%). Based on the data on complete clinical healing, minimal patient discomfort, and satisfactory esthetic results, we can confirm that FDIP by diode laser is a promising candidate for the safe and efficacious treatment of OVA.

Abstract
Ultrasonography is an appropriate first-line imaging technique for the characterisation of paediatric lumps, given its relative accessibility and absence of radiation exposure. Together with a thorough history and examination, ultrasonography can help to distinguish benign lesions from malignancy. It can also aid further characterisation of benign lesions to inform onward investigation and management. This review features the evaluation of common benign paediatric lumps together with their characteristic sonographic features, following correlation with histopathology results or clinical follow-up.

Abstract
Purpose This study examines the diagnostic potential of whole-body blood pool scintigraphy (WBBPS) using technetium-99 m-labeled red blood cells to detect congenital vascular malformations (CVMs). It aims to compare its efficacy with traditional imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasonography (USG), emphasizing its potential advantages in terms of characterization of lesions and capacity for whole-body assessment. Methods The efficacy of WBBPS and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/computed tomography (CT) imaging in diagnosing CVMs, comparing them with USG and MRI results, was evaluated in this retrospective study. Of the 38 patients, 21 were evaluated using these diagnostic methods, with CVMs classified according to the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies guidelines. Also, this study aimed to elucidate the characteristics between WBBPS, SPECT/CT, USG, or MRI findings and their consistency with the final diagnosis. Results A total of 21 participants were included in this study, with an average age of 17.7 years old, with female predominance (57.1%). The most common diagnosis was vascular malformations (VMs) (71.4%), followed by combined vascular malformations (14.3%) and lymphatic malformations (9.5%). WBBPS demonstrated positive results in 95.2% of cases. Distinct imaging patterns for each condition were observed, with WBBPS being crucial in locating lesions. Conclusion The study findings suggested that WBBPS with SPECT/CT could be helpful in detecting occult VM lesions and ruling out a lymphatic malformation diagnosis. Thus, it can be employed in the evaluation of CVMs.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has demonstrated immense potential in various fields, especially in biomedical field. Among these domains, the development of nanotechnology for diagnosing and treating vascular anomalies has garnered significant attention. Vascular anomalies refer to structural and functional anomalies within the vascular system, which can result in conditions such as vascular malformations and tumors. These anomalies can significantly impact the quality of life of patients and pose significant health concerns. Nanoscale contrast agents have been developed for targeted imaging of blood vessels, enabling more precise identification and characterization of vascular anomalies. These contrast agents can be designed to bind specifically to abnormal blood vessels, providing healthcare professionals with a clearer view of the affected areas. More importantly, nanotechnology also offers promising solutions for targeted therapeutic interventions. Nanoparticles can be engineered to deliver drugs directly to the site of vascular anomalies, maximizing therapeutic effects while minimizing side effects on healthy tissues. Meanwhile, by incorporating functional components into nanoparticles, such as photosensitizers, nanotechnology enables innovative treatment modalities such as photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy. This review focuses on the applications and potential of nanotechnology in the imaging and therapy of vascular anomalies, as well as discusses the present challenges and future directions.

Abstract
A 6-year-old boy with multiple capillary malformations of the port-wine birthmark (PWB) type on the right leg since birth presented with a varicose vein and segmental overgrowth of the affected leg. Genetic testing on affected skin confirmed the presence of a somatic novel pathogenic HRAS 30 bp in-frame duplication/insertion in the switch II domain. This case illustrates the phenotypic overlap of different genotypes and shows that somatic HRAS pathogenic variants, especially in-frame duplications/insertions, must be added to the list of the underlying causes in capillary malformations.

Abstract
An epithelioid hemangioma (EH) is a rare benign vascular lesion that is usually seen in superficial small vessels within the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Intravascular epithelioid hemangiomas of large and medium-sized vessels are rare, and only a handful of cases have been reported in the literature. Intravascular epithelioid hemangiomas are biologically benign and best treated by complete surgical excision. On occasion, lesions have been associated with aneurysmal changes in the affected vessel. Local recurrence may occur, and close clinical follow-up is advised. Herein, we report the second case in the literature of an EH originating from the popliteal artery. A 57-year-old male patient presented with a one-month history of knee pain without claudication. Imaging highlighted a right popliteal aneurysm, 5x5 cm, with partial distal thrombosis and inadequate outflow. The patient subsequently underwent popliteal artery ligation above and below the aneurysm, reconstructed with a superficial femoral artery (SFA) to distal anterior tibial artery (ATA) reverse saphenous vein bypass graft. Patient recovery was complicated by the development of a 5x5 cm right-sided mid-thigh hematoma, requiring evacuation under anesthesia. A post-one-year arterial duplex of the affected limb demonstrated a recurrent enlarging popliteal aneurysm measuring 5.7x4.8x9.1 cm. The aneurysm was reported to be mostly thrombosed with noted vascularity, but patency of the original bypass was noted. The patient underwent excision of the recurrent aneurysm with subsequent ligation of the feeding arteries. Pathology and histology confirmed the final diagnosis of EH of the popliteal artery. An 18-month follow-up after the excision procedure demonstrated no recurrence of vascular lesion and patency of the original bypass graft.

Abstract
Venous malformations (VMs) are aberrant venous vessel angiogenesis present at birth. However, they can become apparent later in life, debuting in early childhood. This poses a clinical quest for surgeons, dentists, and pediatricians, as they might appear as a compressible mass in the head and neck region, not uncommonly mistaking them for odontogenic abscesses or other soft tissue tumors. The differential diagnosis can be challenging and imaging techniques are often needed. Ultrasounds are extremely useful initially as other diagnostic tools can be potentially harmful in the context of a VM. MRI is key as it provides accurate extension and location information, and allows to plan invasive treatment alternatives if the patient requires it. In this article, we present the case of a 6-year-old girl who was treated by mistake for an infection upon the diagnosis of an incipient odontogenic abscess instead of a venous malformation, and a literature review on VMs. Key words:Venous malformation, odontogenic abscess, differential diagnosis.

Abstract
Background Venous malformation is related to genes and results in functional and morphologic anomalies. Genetic variations affecting the development of vessel endothelial cells are unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the potential value of the miR-100 rs1834306 A>G polymorphism as a marker of susceptibility to venous malformation. Methods In this case-control study in southern Chinese children, we collected blood samples from 1158 controls and 1113 patients with venous malformation. TaqMan genotyping of miR-100 rs1834306 A>G was performed by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that there was no significant association between the presence of the miR-100 rs1834306 A>G polymorphism and susceptibility to venous malformation by evaluating the values of pooled odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Similarly, among different sites, rs1834306 A>G was also not associated with venous malformation. Conclusion Our results suggest that the miR-100 rs1834306 A>G polymorphism is not associated with susceptibility to venous malformation in southern Chinese children. These results need to be further confirmed by investigating a more diverse ethnic population of patients with venous malformations.

Abstract
Interventional approaches to head and neck vascular anomalies have evolved with our understanding of disease pathologic condition and advances in medical and surgical treatment. Embolization's role in the disease management ranges from stand-alone treatment with curative intent to adjunctive or even palliative, depending on the lesion. This decision is best made through multidisciplinary collaboration among surgeons, interventionalists, and medical specialists. Finally, setting realistic expectations with the patient and family is a crucial step preceding any intervention. This article elaborates on the considerations influencing a given treatment plan and specific interventional strategy.

Abstract
There continuous to be widespread misuse of nomenclature used to described vascular anomalies, This is even more pronounced in the case of intra-osseous lesions. Bone involvement is more common with vascular malformations and extremely rare in haemangiomas. An accurate diagnosis is mandatory for tailored management and often based on a thorough history, clinical examination, and cross-sectional imaging. Surgery remains the main stay for the management of symptomatic venous malformations. Embolisation with or without surgery is the main stay for arteriovenous malformations. Virtual surgical planning, with surgical guides and patient specific implants help achieve predictably excellent results.

Abstract
Vascular malformations are congenital lesions that occur due to mutations in major cellular signalling pathways which govern angiogenesis, cell proliferation, motility, and cell death. These pathways have been widely studied in oncology and are substrates for various small molecule inhibitors. Given their common molecular biology, there is now a potential to repurpose these cancer drugs for vascular malformation care; however, a molecular diagnosis is required in order to tailour specific drugs to the individual patient's mutational profile. Liquid biopsies (LBs), emerging as a transformative tool in the field of oncology, hold significant promise in this feat. This paper explores the principles and technologies underlying LBs and evaluates their potential to revolutionize the management of vascular malformations. The review begins by delineating the fundamental principles of LBs, focusing on the detection and analysis of circulating biomarkers such as cell-free DNA, circulating tumor cells, and extracellular vesicles. Subsequently, an in-depth analysis of the technological advancements driving LB platforms is presented. Lastly, the paper highlights the current state of research in applying LBs to various vascular malformations, and uses the aforementioned principles and techniques to conceptualize a liquid biopsy framework that is unique to vascular malformation research and clinical care.

Abstract
Paediatric orbital lesions encompass a wide spectrum of benign and malignant entities that can arise from different components of the orbit. Clinical symptoms and signs are often nonspecific, and imaging plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and management. Ultrasonography has a limited role and radiation is a major concern with CT especially in the paediatric population. MRI is the modality of choice that avoids the radiation hazard and provides superior soft tissue contrast. The lesions can be localized using the 'compartment' approach which helps to narrow the list of differentials. MRI also provides critical information for management such as presence of perineural spread and intracranial extension. This article depicts the spectrum of Magnetic Resonance imaging findings encountered in paediatric ocular and orbital lesions.

Abstract
Purpose To describe a novel ultrasound-guided technique for percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of vascular malformations-the "moving shot technique." Methods Preliminary observational cohort study, conducted from June 1, 2019, to January 31, 2021, including all consecutive patients diagnosed with vascular malformations who were treated with ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation using the moving shot technique. Only patients who had undergone at least one unsuccessful previous treatment were included (sclerotherapy with ethanol/aethoxysklerol or embolization/surgery). Results Eight patients with a median age of 22 years (interquartile range, 13-31) were included. Patients had different vascular malformations consisting of 1 arteriovenous malformation, 4 venous malformations, and 1 each a mixed venous-lymphatic malformation, a glomuvenous malformation and a FAVA (fibroadipose vascular anomaly). Malformations were located at the limbs in 5 patients (62.5%), the subcutaneous/intramuscular tissue of the body in 2 patients (25%) and at the chin in 1 patient (12.5%). Clinical symptoms were pain in 8 patients (100%), swelling in 6 patients (75%), and partial immobility in 4 patients (50%). All patients showed an improvement of clinical symptoms after treatment with 7 (87.5%) being completely asymptomatic and 1 (12.5%) showing improvement of immobility and pain. No procedural complications, such as nerve damage or skin burns occurred. Conclusion The moving shot technique using ultrasonography-guided radiofrequency ablation is a promising technique for the interventional treatment of vascular malformations and should be validated in multicenter-approaches.

Abstract
The treatment of pathologies located within and surrounding the orbit poses considerable surgical challenges, due to the intricate presence of critical neurovascular structures in such deep, confined spaces. Historically, transcranial and craniofacial approaches have been widely employed to deal with orbital pathologies. However, recent decades have witnessed the emergence of minimally invasive techniques aimed at reducing morbidity. Among these techniques are the endoscopic endonasal approach and the subsequently developed endoscopic transorbital approach (ETOA), encompassing both endonasal and transpalpebral approaches. These innovative methods not only facilitate the management of intraorbital lesions but also offer access to deep-seated lesions within the anterior, middle, and posterior cranial fossa via specific transorbital and endonasal corridors. Contemporary research indicates that ETOAs have demonstrated exceptional outcomes in terms of morbidity rates, cosmetic results, and complication rates. This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of endoscopic-assisted techniques that enable a 360° access to the orbit and its surrounding regions. The investigation will delve into indications, advantages, and limitations associated with different approaches, while also drawing comparisons between endoscopic approaches and traditional microsurgical transcranial approaches.

Abstract
According to the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) classification, vascular anomalies include a diverse range of pathologies, classified as either vascular tumors or vascular malformations. This classification, last revised in 2018, aims to explain the biological basis of vascular lesions and help clinicians to manage the anomalies. In vascular tumors, there are proliferative changes of endothelial cells, while vascular malformations primarily consist of structural vascular abnormalities. Infantile hemangioma is the most common soft-tissue vascular tumor. Vascular malformations are an extensive group of malformations of the arterial, venous, and lymphatic systems, either in isolation or in combination. Radiological evaluation plays a key part in the management of pediatric patients with these entities. The understanding of sonography and magnetic resonance imaging findings entails its correlation with clinical findings at the time of scanning.

Abstract
Vascular malformations (VMs) are clinically diverse with regard to the vessel type, anatomical location, tissue involvement and size. Consequently, symptoms and disease impact differ significantly. Diverse causative mutations in more and more genes are discovered and play a major role in the development of VMs. However, the relationship between the underlying causative mutations and the highly variable phenotype of VMs is not yet fully understood. In this systematic review, we aimed to provide an overview of known causative mutations in genes in VMs and discuss associations between the causative mutations and clinical phenotypes. PubMed and EMBASE libraries were systematically searched on November 9th, 2022 for randomized controlled trials and observational studies reporting causative mutations in at least five patients with peripheral venous, lymphatic, arteriovenous and combined malformations. Study quality was assessed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Data were extracted on patient and VM characteristics, molecular sequencing method and results of molecular analysis. In total, 5667 articles were found of which 69 studies were included, reporting molecular analysis in a total of 4261 patients and 1686 (40%) patients with peripheral VMs a causative mutation was detected. In conclusion, this systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of causative germline and somatic mutations in various genes and associated phenotypes in peripheral VMs. With these findings, we attempt to better understand how the underlying causative mutations in various genes contribute to the highly variable clinical characteristics of VMs. Our study shows that some causative mutations lead to a uniform phenotype, while other causal variants lead to more varying phenotypes. By contrast, distinct causative mutations may lead to similar phenotypes and result in almost indistinguishable VMs. VMs are currently classified based on clinical and histopathology features, however, the findings of this systematic review suggest a larger role for genotype in current diagnostics and classification.

Abstract
Camrelizumab, a monoclonal antibody, blocks programmed cell death protein-1 from binding to T cells and programmed cell death ligand 1 on tumor cells, thereby ensuring sustained T cell activation and blocking immune escape of various types of cancer, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Reactive cutaneous capillary endothelial hyperplasia (RCCEP) is the most common immune-related adverse event in patients treated with camrelizumab. We report a case nasopharyngeal carcinoma in a patient with camrelizumab-induced RCCEP. A 68-year-old man diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma developed RCCEP at multiple locations after 3 months of camrelizumab treatment. RCCEP of the right lower eyelid affected closure of the right eye. In this report, we also reviewed previous literature on camrelizumab-induced RCCEP. In summary, the mechanism underlying camrelizumab-induced RCCEP remains unclear. RCCEP typically gradually subsides after discontinuing camrelizumab treatment. Larger nodules can be treated with lasers, ligation, or surgery. Although surgical excision is effective, RCCEP may recur in patients undergoing camrelizumab treatment. RCCEP management may not be required in the absence of adverse effects on the patient's daily life.

Abstract
PIK3CA-related disorders encompass many rare and ultra-rare conditions caused by somatic genetic variants that hyperactivate the PI3K-AKT-mTOR signaling pathway, which is essential for cell cycle control. PIK3CA-related disorders include PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS), PIK3CA-related vascular malformations and PIK3CA-related non-vascular lesions. Phenotypes are extremely heterogeneous and overlapping. Therefore, diagnosis and management frequently involve various health specialists. Given the rarity of these disorders and the limited number of centers offering optimal care, the Scientific Committee of the Italian Macrodactyly and PROS Association has proposed a revision of the most recent recommendations for the diagnosis, molecular testing, clinical management, follow-up, and treatment strategies. These recommendations give insight on molecular diagnosis, eligible samples, preferable sequencing, and validation methods and management of negative results. The purpose of this paper is to promote collaboration between health care centers and clinicians with a joint shared approach. Finally, we suggest the direction of present and future research studies, including new systemic target therapies, which are currently under evaluation in several clinical trials, such as specific inhibitors that can be employed to downregulate the signaling pathway.

Abstract
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is a very rare vascular malformation syndrome also referred to as a capillary-lymphatic-venous malformation with unknown aetiology. The aim of our paper is to highlight interesting images, regarding a rare case of foetal Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome diagnosed prenatally in our department and confirmed postnatally with a favourable evolution during the gestation and neonatal periods. This case was diagnosed at 26 weeks gestation and characterised through ultrasound by the presence of superficial multiple cystic structures of different sizes spreading over the left leg with hemihypertrophy and reduced mobility. The cystic lesions were spreading to the left buttock and the pelvic area. The right leg and upper limbs had normal appearance with good mobility. There were no signs of hyperdynamic circulation or foetal anaemia, but mild polyhydramnios was associated. The ultrasound findings were confirmed postnatally, the left leg presented multiple cystic lesions and port wine stains, and there was hypertrophy and fixed position, with favourable evolution at 6 months of life, when the size of the lesions began to decrease and the mobility of the leg improved.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS There are limited studies on the management of hepatic hemangiomas (HHs). We investigated the proportion and predictors of surgical resection and analyzed HH growth rates in addition to associated factors. METHODS A retrospective case-control study of patients treated in 2 centers was conducted. Thirty-six patients who underwent surgical resection were assigned to the case group. Patients who did not undergo surgical treatment were randomly sigselected at a 1:10 ratio and assigned to the control group (n = 360). Baseline characteristics, clinical course and surgical outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS The proportion of surgically treated HH patients was 0.3% (36 per 11,049). The longest diameter at diagnosis (mean ± standard deviation) was 7.7 ± 5.2 cm in the case group and 2.4 ± 1.8 cm in the control group (p < 0.001). In the multivariate analysis, the presence of more than 2 HHs (odds ratio [OR] 7.64, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.40-41.72) and a growth rate of more than 4.8%/year (OR 30.73, 95% CI 4.86-194.51) were independently associated with surgical treatment. Symptom development during follow-up was related to HH size > 10 cm (OR 10.50, 95% CI 1.06-103.77, p = 0.04). The subgroup analysis showed substantial growth in 41.3% with an overall mean annual growth rate of 0.14 cm. CONCLUSION Approximately one in 300 patients with an HH underwent surgical treatment. Multiple HHs and a growth rate of more than 4.8%/year were indications for surgical treatment. Nearly half of the HHs showed growing pattern in our study.

Abstract
Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most common neoplasm in children, but it may mimic other types of vascular anomalies or nonvascular benign and malignant tumors. In most cases, the clinical appearance, time of onset, and pattern of involution facilitate its diagnosis. Imaging evaluation is not always needed since the IH features at clinical presentation are usually characteristic, but when needed, US and frequently MRI are the imaging modalities of choice. Clinical photography or photographic documentation plays a central role in monitoring these lesions over their clinical course. Photographic documentation can also add confidence and alert the radiologist when interpreting imaging studies. Some vascular anomalies, especially vascular malformations, are a frequent source of confusion, as these may resemble IHs clinically and at imaging. The lack of uniform terminology also hinders an accurate diagnosis. To unify the terminology and minimize confusion, the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies created a helpful classification in 1994. In addition, radiologists need to be aware of and become familiar with other neoplasms in children that may resemble IH to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures. Fibrous and lipomatous tumors are examples of benign tumors that can mimic IHs clinically and at imaging, whereas rhabdomyosarcoma, infantile fibrosarcoma, neuroblastoma, and lymphoproliferative disorders are examples of malignant neoplasms. The authors review the features of IH at clinical presentation and imaging evaluation, highlighting its different phases of evolution and stressing the importance of photographic documentation. Abstract
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) is a rare vascular anomaly characterized by abnormal communication between the pulmonary artery and vein. It is a rare cause of hemoptysis. Computed tomographic angiography (CTA) has become the preferred and dependable diagnostic approach for identifying PAVM. PAVM embolization is the primary recommended treatment for this condition. We present a case of a 43-year-old male with a complex PAVM in the left lower lobe presenting with hemoptysis treated with an endovascular approach. Following the procedure, the patient's symptoms resolved.

Abstract
Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) is bleeding of unknown origin after a negative initial or primary colonoscopy and upper endoscopy result. Small bowel bleeding accounts for 5% of GI bleeding but it is the most prominent cause of OGIB. We present a case with an obscure diminutive polypoid vascular anomaly of small intestine. In this case, intraoperative enteroscopy seems to be the last trump card for OGIB, especially for large amount loss of blood. It not only helped to find the obscure cause for bleeding, but also preserved the small intestine.

Abstract
Traditionally, for patients who are poor candidates for surgery and/or radiotherapy, palliative chemotherapy is often offered but with significant toxic side effects. However, recent advancements in our understanding of tumor biology and molecular genetics have brought new understanding to the molecular pathways of certain tumors and cancers. This has ushered in a new era of precision medicine specific to a tumor or cancer treatment pathway (targeted therapy) or directed to host-tumor responses (immunotherapy). This article will focus on recent updates in the application of available targeted and immunotherapy for managing orbital and periorbital tumors and tumor-like conditions, which include cutaneous basal cell carcinoma, cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, cutaneous melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, sebaceous gland carcinoma, solitary fibrous tumor, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, orbital meningioma, neurofibromatosis, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, ocular adnexal lymphoma, orbital lymphatic malformation, and adenoid cystic carcinoma.

Abstract
Lymphatic malformations are congenital anomalies of the lymphatic system that can occur anywhere in the body and typically present in early childhood. They are often painless, slow-growing, and asymptomatic, but may lead to a wide range of symptoms depending on their size and location. Rarely, congenital malformations may not be diagnosed until later in childhood or adolescence, despite being present from birth. In some individuals, lymphatic malformations can expand quickly, especially in the setting of an inflammatory process. We present the case of an 8-year-old boy who had a rapidly enlarging, nonpainful mass on his right neck and a positive streptococcus throat swab. After evaluation by multiple specialists and imaging studies, he was diagnosed with a multilocular, multicystic lymphatic malformation. He was treated with fluoroscopy-guided doxycycline sclerotherapy, and has had near total resolution of neck swelling. This case report is significant because it highlights the potential benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of lymphatic malformations. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of considering congenital malformations in the differential diagnosis of neck masses, even in older children. Finally, it also adds to the growing body of evidence that hypothesizes that strep throat infections may trigger the sudden expansion of previously asymptomatic congenital lymphatic malformations.

Abstract
PURPOSE Determining the hemodynamic characteristics of an orbital vascular malformation is a critical step in management. The purpose of this study is to assess the relationship between enophthalmos and clinically apparent distensibility of orbital vascular malformations, to optimize imaging and treatment. METHODS In this cross-sectional cohort study consecutive patients at a single institution were screened for study entry. Data extracted included age, sex, Hertel measurements, presence or absence of distensibility during the Valsalva maneuver, whether lesions were primarily venous or lymphatic based on imaging, and location of the lesion relative to the globe. Enophthalmos was defined as ≥ 2 mm difference from the opposite side. Parametric and nonparametric statistics were used, and linear regression was performed to examine factors predictive of Hertel measurement. RESULTS Twenty-nine patients met the inclusion criteria. Relative enophthalmos ≥2 mm was significantly associated with distensibility ( p = 0.03; odds ratio = 5.33). Distensibility and venous dominant morphology were the 2 most important factors associated with enophthalmos on regression analysis. The relative position of the lesion anterior or posterior to the globe did not have a significant bearing on baseline enophthalmos. CONCLUSIONS The presence of enophthalmos increases the likelihood that an orbital vascular malformation is distensible. This group of patients was also more likely to be characterized by venous dominant malformations. Baseline clinical enophthalmos may serve as a useful surrogate marker for distensibility and venous dominance, which may be useful in guiding the selection of appropriate imaging.

Abstract
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is an uncommon, infrequent, congenital disorder characterized by a triad of capillary malformation, varicosities, and tissue and bone hypertrophy. The presence of two of these three signs is enough to obtain the diagnosis. Capillary malformations are usually present at birth, whereas venous varicosities and limb hypertrophy become more evident later. The syndrome has usually a benign course, but serious complications involving various organs, such as gastrointestinal and genitourinary organs, as well as the central nervous system, may be observed. Recently, Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome has been included in the group of PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS) disorders. In terms of this disorder, new results in etiopathogenesis and in modalities of treatment have been advanced. We report here a review of the recent genetic findings, the main clinical characteristics and related severe complications, differential diagnoses with a similar disorder, and the management of patients with this complex and uncommon syndrome.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The Flash-lamp pulsed dye laser (FPDL) is nowadays considered the most precise laser currently on the market for treating superficial vascular lesions. In this study, we gathered data from 10 years of experience regarding dye laser treatment of patients presenting vascular malformations such as telangiectasia, rhinophyma, port-wine stain, cherry and spider angioma and vascular tumours. METHODS Subjects were enrolled from 2013 to 2023 based on the vascular anomalies they presented. They underwent different treatment sessions with the FPDL device. RESULTS The age-range distribution by vascular anomaly confirmed that haemangiomas are typical in children while rhinophyma is a condition very common in older adults. A difference in sex distribution showed that pathologies such as telangiectasias typically affect women whereas rhinophyma is more frequent in men. Most of the treatments interested the face area but no permanent side effects were registered. CONCLUSIONS Our 10 years of experience with FPDL demonstrated good results in a wide range of applications for the treatment of different vascular anomalies. The absence of long-term side effects and bearable pain during the treatment makes it a valuable solution for the resolution of benign tumours also in very young patients.

Abstract
Background Lymphatic malformations (LMs) are rare congenital anomalies. The traditional treatment is surgical excision, but intralesional sclerosing agent injection is also preferred as the first-choice treatment because of postoperative frequent recurrences, poor cosmetic results, and high complication rate. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of sclerosing agent injection used in the treatment of LMs in children. Materials and Methods We retrospectively analyzed the children who were treated for LM between January 2011 and January 2022. The lesion sizes of the patients who were injected with sclerosant (Bleomycin) under sedation anesthesia, measured by ultrasound before and after the treatment, were recorded, and the difference between them was statistically evaluated. Results Fifteen patients were retrospectively analyzed. The mean age was 45.2 ± 14.1 months. Of these, ten (66.6%) were male and five (33.3%) were female (F/M = 1/2). The mean age of male patients was 55 ± 20.1 months; the mean age of female patients was 25.8 ± 11. Seven patients had a single dose, two had twice, and six had three and more. The mean measurable size of macrocystic lesions before treatment was 55.2 ± 28.4 mm; after treatment, it was 23.8 ± 18.2 mm. Although no measurable shrinkage was detected in microcystic lesions, it was observed that the lesion shrank to allow surgical resection. With the statistical analysis, it was seen that there was a statistically significant difference between the dimensions before and after the treatment (P < 0.05) and the sclerosant injection had a great effect on the treatment (R: 0.89). Conclusion Intralesional injection of bleomycin is less effective for microcystic or mixed-type LMs, but provides an effective reduction for a safe surgical procedure. It is an effective treatment for macrocystic lesions.

Abstract
In recent years, advancements in technology have allowed the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasounds (CEUS) with high-frequency transducers, which in turn, led to new possibilities in diagnosing a variety of diseases and conditions in the field of radiology, including neonatal brain imaging. CEUSs overcome some of the limitations of conventional ultrasounds (US) and Doppler USs. It allows the visualization of dynamic perfusion even in the smallest vessels in the whole brain and allows the quantitative analysis of perfusion parameters. An increasing number of articles are published on the topic of the use of CEUSs on children each year. In the area of brain imaging, the CEUS has already proven to be useful in cases with clinical indications, such as hypoxic-ischemic injuries, stroke, intracranial hemorrhages, vascular anomalies, brain tumors, and infections. We present and discuss the basic principles of the CEUS and its safety considerations, the examination protocol for imaging the neonatal brain, and current and emerging clinical applications.
