Changes in Neutrophil-Lymphocyte or Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratios and Their Associations with Clinical Outcomes in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Modified blood cell GAP model as a prognostic biomarker in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Background

The Gender, Age and Physiology (GAP) model is a simple mortality prediction tool in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis that uses demographic and physiological variables available at initial evaluation. White blood cell variables may have associations with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis outcomes. We evaluated whether incorporating blood cell counts in modified GAP (cGAP) models would improve outcome prediction in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Patients and methods

This retrospective analysis included pooled data from phase 3 randomised trials of pirfenidone in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (ASCEND, CAPACITY 004, CAPACITY 006). Study outcomes (disease progression, all-cause mortality, all-cause hospitalisation, respiratory-related hospitalisation) were evaluated during the initial 1-year period. Shared frailty models were used to evaluate associations between continuous and categorical baseline white and red blood cell parameters and study outcomes in a bivariate context, and to evaluate the impact of adding continuous monocyte count (cGAP1) or white and red blood cell parameters (cGAP2) to traditional GAP variables in a multivariable context based on C-statistics changes.

Results

Data were pooled from 1247 patients (pirfenidone, n=623; placebo, n=624). Significant associations (bivariate analyses) were idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis progression with neutrophil and eosinophil counts; all-cause mortality with monocyte and neutrophil counts; all-cause hospitalisation with monocyte count, neutrophil count and haemoglobin level; and respiratory-related hospitalisation with monocyte count, neutrophil count and haemoglobin level. In multivariate analyses, C-statistics were highest for the cGAP2 model for each of the outcomes.

Conclusion

Modified GAP models incorporating monocyte counts alone or plus other white and red blood cell variables may be useful to improve prediction of outcomes in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Predictive factors of mortality in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis treated with antifibrotics: a novel prognostic scoring system

BACKGROUND AND AIM

Any test that provides sufficient prognostic information to guide treatment decisions in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is not available. The aim of our study was to determine the predictive factors of mortality in patients with IPF treated with antifibrotics.

METHODS

Patients with diagnosis of IPF who were treated with antifibrotics between 2016 - 2021 were included in the study. Demographic, clinical and laboratory characteristics of the patients was derived from hospital records retrospectively. Kaplan Meier and multivariate cox regression analysis were achieved for detection of mortality predictors.

RESULTS

Study population was composed of 119 IPF patients with a male predominance of 80.7% (n=96). Mean age of the patients was 67.9 ± 7.07 years. On univariate analysis, sex was not a significant predictor of mortality (HR 1.79; 95% CI: 0.87 - 3.69, p =0.11).  BMI ≤ 26,6 m2/kg, DLCO ≤ 3.11 ml/mmHg/min, age over 62 years, 6DWT ≤ 382 meters, NLR ≤ 2.67 and PDW ≤ 16.7% were found to be significant for predicting mortality. On multivariate cox regression analysis four parameters remained significant for prediction of mortality: RDW > 14%, NLR ≤ 2.67, BMI ≤ 26,6 m2/kg and DLCO ≤ 3.11 ml/mmHg/min (respectively, HR: 2.0. 95% CI: 1.02 - 3.91, p=0.44; HR: 2.68. 95% CI: 1.48 - 4.85, p=0.001, HR: 2.07. 95% CI: 1.14 - 3.76, p=0.02, HR: 3.46. 95% CI: 1.85 - 6.47, p<0.001). A scoring system with these parameters discriminated patients with worse prognosis with a sensitivity of 89.1 % and a specificity of 65.8 % when total point was over 2 (AUC0.83, p<0.001). Conclusions In this study, DLCO, BMI, RDW and NLR levels significantly predicted mortality in IPF patients. Along with GAP index, scoring system with these simple parameters may give information about the prognosis of an IPF patient treated with antifibrotics.

Factors associated with rapid progression in fibrotic interstitial lung disease

Background

Early identification of fibrotic interstitial lung disease (F-ILD) patients with high risk of progression will help initiate early therapeutic intervention and potential improvement of outcomes. This study was designed to assess the predictors of progression in patients with F-ILD.

Methods

Patients with F-ILD in Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital between January 1, 2019 and July 31, 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients enrolled were divided into progressive group and non-progressive group according to the specified criteria. Baseline characteristics were collected and a multivariate regression was conducted to identify independent predictors of progression.

Results

Of the 177 F-ILD cases, 87 were enrolled in the progressive group and 90 were in the non-progressive group. The cohort included 11 types of F-ILD, primarily were connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) (43, 24.3 %), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) (39, 22.0 %), interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF) (32, 18.1 %), and unclassifiable (23, 13.0 %). The highest proportion of progression was seen in nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) subgroup (66.7 %), followed by IPF (59.0 %) and HP (57.1 %). After adjusting for gender and age, a course of disease longer than 9.5 months (OR: 2.633; 95 % CI: 1.190-5.826, P = 0.017), lymphocyte in peripheral blood more than 2.24 (109/L) (OR: 2.670; 95 % CI: 1.095-6.510, P = 0.031), and emphysema in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) (OR: 2.387; 95 % CI: 1.017-5.640, P = 0.046) were independent predictors of progression in F-ILD patients.

Conclusions

This study suggested that in patients with F-ILD, long course of disease, elevated blood lymphocyte and emphysema on HRCT were independent predictors of progression, which may suggest utility in early therapeutic intervention.

Neutrophil levels correlate with quantitative extent and progression of fibrosis in IPF: results of a single-centre cohort study

BACKGROUND

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive fibrotic lung disease with poor prognosis. Clinical studies have demonstrated association between different blood leucocytes and mortality and forced vital capacity (FVC) decline. Here, we question which blood leucocyte levels are specifically associated with progression of fibrosis, measured by accumulation of fibrosis on CT scan using a standardised automated method.

METHODS

Using the Computer-Aided Lung Informatics for Pathology Evaluation and Rating CT algorithm, we determined the correlation between different blood leucocytes (<4 months from CT) and total lung fibrosis (TLF) scores, pulmonary vessel volume (PVV), FVC% and transfer factor of lung for carbon monoxide% at baseline (n=171) and with progression of fibrosis (n=71), the latter using multivariate Cox regression.

RESULTS

Neutrophils (but not monocyte or lymphocytes) correlated with extent of lung fibrosis (TLF/litre) (r=0.208, p=0.007), PVV (r=0.259, p=0.001), FVC% (r=-0.127, p=0.029) at baseline. For the 71 cases with repeat CT; median interval between CTs was 25.9 (16.8-39.9) months. Neutrophil but not monocyte levels are associated with increase in TLF/litre (HR 2.66, 95% CI 1.35 to 5.25, p=0.005).

CONCLUSION

Our study shows that neutrophil rather than monocyte levels correlated with quantifiable increase in fibrosis on imaging of the lungs in IPF, suggesting its relative greater contribution to progression of fibrosis in IPF.

Investigating the role of platelets and platelet-derived transforming growth factor-β in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGFβ1) is the key profibrotic cytokine in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), but the primary source of this cytokine in this disease is unknown. Platelets have abundant stores of TGFβ1, although the role of these cells in IPF is ill-defined. In this study, we investigated whether platelets, and specifically platelet-derived TGFβ1, mediate IPF disease progression. Patients with IPF and non-IPF patients were recruited to determine platelet reactivity, and separate cohorts of patients with IPF were followed for mortality. To study whether platelet-derived TGFβ1 modulates pulmonary fibrosis (PF), mice with a targeted deletion of TGFβ1 in megakaryocytes and platelets (TGFβ1fl/fl.PF4-Cre) were used in the well-characterized bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis (PF) animal model. In a discovery cohort, we found significantly higher mortality in patients with IPF who had elevated platelet counts within the normal range. However, our validation cohort did not confirm this observation, despite significantly increased platelets, neutrophils, active TGFβ1, and CCL5, a chemokine produced by inflammatory cells, in the blood, lung, and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) of patients with IPF. In vivo, we showed that despite platelets being readily detected within the lungs of bleomycin-treated mice, neither the degree of pulmonary inflammation nor fibrosis was significantly different between TGFβ1fl/fl.PF4-Cre and control mice. Our results demonstrate for the first time that platelet-derived TGFβ1 does not significantly mediate inflammation or fibrosis in a PF animal model. Furthermore, our human studies revealed blood platelet counts do not consistently predict mortality in IPF but other platelet-derived mediators, such as C-C chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5), may promote neutrophil recruitment and human IPF.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Platelets are a rich source of profibrotic TGFβ; however, the role of platelets in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is unclear. We identified that patients with IPF have significantly more platelets, neutrophils, and active TGFβ in their airways than control patients. Using an animal model of IPF, we demonstrated that platelet-derived TGFβ does not significantly drive lung fibrosis or inflammation. Our findings offer a better understanding of platelets in both human and animal studies of IPF.

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune inflammation index (SII) to predict postoperative pneumonia in elderly hip fracture patients

PURPOSE

Investigate the association between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) about the presence of postoperative pneumonia (POP) in geriatric patients with hip fractures. Compare the predictive value of these biomarkers for POP and assess their potential for early detection of POP.

METHODS

We retrospectively included elderly patients with hip fractures who underwent surgical treatment at our institution. POP was diagnosed according to the guidelines provided by the American Thoracic Society. We collected neutrophil, lymphocyte, and platelet counts upon admission to calculate the NLR, PLR, and SII. Receiver operating characteristic curves were utilized to establish the optimal cutoff values for each index. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and propensity score matching analysis were utilized to assess the independent association between each index and POP after adjusting for demographic, comorbidity, and surgery-related variables.

RESULTS

The study included a total of 1199 patients, among whom 111 cases (9.26%) developed POP. NLR exhibited the highest predictive value for POP in elderly patients with hip fractures compared to PLR and SII (AUC = 0.648, 95% CI 0.594-0.701). A high NLR, using the optimal cutoff value of 5.84, was significantly associated with an increased incidence of POP (OR = 2.24, 95% CI 1.43-3.51). This finding remained statistically significant even after propensity score matching (OR = 2.04, 95% CI 1.31-3.20).

CONCLUSIONS

Among the three inflammatory/immune markers considered, the NLR demonstrates the highest reliability as a predictor for POP in elderly patients with hip fractures. Therefore, it serves as a valuable tool for early identification.

Acute Exacerbations of Interstitial Lung Diseases: Focus on Biomarkers

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are a large group of pulmonary disorders characterized histologically by the cardinal involvement of the pulmonary interstitium. The prototype of ILDs is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), an incurable disease characterized by progressive distortion and loss of normal lung architecture through unchecked collagen deposition. Acute exacerbations are dramatic events during the clinical course of ILDs, associated with high morbidity and mortality. Infections, microaspiration, and advanced lung disease might be involved in the pathogenesis of acute exacerbations. Despite clinical scores, the prediction of the onset and outcome of acute exacerbations is still inaccurate. Biomarkers are necessary to characterize acute exacerbations better. We review the evidence for alveolar epithelial cell, fibropoliferation, and immunity molecules as potential biomarkers for acute exacerbations of interstitial lung disease.

The diagnostic value of the systemic immune-inflammatory index in acute appendicitis cases in the emergency department

BACKGROUND AND AIM

Acute appendicitis (AA) is one of the most common causes of acute abdomen conditions and continues to cause mortality and morbidity despite all the improvements. There is still a necessity for inexpensive and easily calculable index and scoring systems with fewer side effects for the diagnosis of AA and the detection of complications. Since the systemic immune-inflammation index (SIII) is an index that could be used in this context, we aimed to measure the success and reliability of SIII for the diagnosis of AA and related complications and to contribute to the literature.

METHODS

Our study was carried out retrospectively in a tertiary care hospital and conducted with 180 AA patients (study group-SG) and 180 control group (CG) patients. Demographic data, laboratory data, and clinical data of the cases, as well as the Alvarado score (AS), adult appendicitis score (AAS), and SIII and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) values calculated from laboratory data, were recorded in the previously created study form. p<0.05 was accepted as the significance level for the study.

RESULTS

In this study, age and gender were similar in the SG and CG groups. SIII and NLR levels calculated in SG cases were found to be significantly higher than CG. In addition, SIII and NLR levels were found to be significantly higher in complicated AA cases than in complicated cases. Although SIII was more significant in the diagnosis of AA, NLR was more successful than SIII in detecting the presence of complications. SIII, NLR, AAS, and AS were significantly positively correlated in the diagnosis of AA. In the presence of peritonitis, SIII and NLR were also found to be significantly higher when compared to cases without peritonitis.

CONCLUSIONS

We found that SIII is a usable index in the diagnosis of AA and the prediction of complicated AA. However, NLR was found to be more significant than SIII in estimating complicated AA. In addition, it is recommended to be careful in terms of peritonitis in cases with high SIII and NLR levels.

The Impact of Lung Cancer in Patients with Combined Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema (CPFE)

Given the high risk of lung cancer (LC) in patients with combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE), and the difficulty of early diagnosis, it is important to understand the impact of LC in these patients. The effect of LC on the development of acute exacerbation (AE) as a natural course of CPFE is still unknown. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients at the West China Hospital and enrolled 59 patients with CPFE combined with LC and 68 CPFE patients without LC for initial diagnosis matched in the same period. We compared the clinical characteristics and imaging features of CPFE patients with LC and without LC, and analyzed the associated factors for the prevalence of LC using binary logistic regression. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was performed to explore risk factors of AE as a natural course of CPFE. Patients with CPFE combined with LC were more common among elderly male smokers. The most common pathological type of tumor was adenocarcinoma (24/59, 40.7%) and squamous cell carcinoma (18/59, 30.5%). Compared with those in the without LC group, the proportions of men, and ex- or current smokers, and the levels of smoking pack-years, serum CRP, IL-6, fibrinogen, complement C3 and C4 in patients with LC were significantly higher (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the proportion of natural-course-related AE (10.2% vs. 16.2%, p > 0.05) between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that pack-years ≥ 20 (OR: 3.672, 95% CI: 1.165-11.579), family history of cancer (OR: 8.353, 95% CI: 2.368-10.417), the level of fibrinogen > 4.81 g/L (OR: 3.628, 95% CI: 1.403-9.385) and serum C3 > 1.00 g/L (OR: 5.299, 95% CI: 1.727-16.263) were independently associated with LC in patients with CPFE. Compared to those without AE, CPFE patients with AE had significantly higher levels of PLR and serum CRP, with obviously lower DLCO and VC. The obviously increased PLR (HR: 3.731, 95% CI: 1.288-10.813), and decreased DLCO%pred (HR: 0.919, 95% CI: 0.863-0.979) and VC%pred (HR: 0.577, 95% CI: 0.137-0.918) rather than the presence of LC independently contributed to the development of natural-course-related AE in patients with CPFE. Pack-years, family history of cancer, the levels of fibrinogen and serum C3 were independently associated with LC in patients with CPFE. The presence of LC did not significantly increase the risk of AE as a natural course of CPFE. Clinicians should give high priority to CPFE patients, especially those with more severe fibrosis and systemic inflammation, in order to be alert for the occurrence of AE.

Diagnostic value of procalcitonin, hypersensitive C-reactive protein and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for bloodstream infections in pediatric tumor patients

OBJECTIVES

Bloodstream infection (BSI) is one of the major causes of death in pediatric tumor patients. Blood samples are relatively easy to obtain and thus provide a ready source of infection-related biological markers for the prompt evaluation of infection risk.

METHODS

A total of 259 pediatric tumor patients were included from May 2019 to March 2022. Patients were divided into BSI group (n=70) and control group (n=189). Clinical and biological data were collected using electronic medical records. Differences in biological markers between BSI group and control group and differences before and during infection in BSI group were analyzed.

RESULTS

The infected group showed higher levels of procalcitonin (PCT) and hypersensitive C-reactive-protein (hsCRP), and lower prealbumin (PA) than the uninfected group. Area under the receiver-operating curve (ROC) curves (AUC) of PCT, hsCRP and NLR (absolute neutrophil count to the absolute lymphocyte count) were 0.756, 0.617 and 0.612. The AUC of other biomarkers was ≤0.6. In addition, PCT, hsCRP, NLR and fibrinogen (Fg) were significantly increased during infection, while PA and lymphocyte (LYM) were significantly decreased. Antibiotic resistant of Gram-positive bacteria to CHL, SXT, OXA and PEN was lower than that of Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus. Resistant of Gram-positive bacteria to CHL was lower, while to SXT was higher than that of Gram-negative bacteria.

CONCLUSIONS

This study explored the utility of biomarkers to assist in diagnosis and found that the PCT had the greatest predictive value for infection in pediatric tumor patients with BSI. Additionally, the PCT, hsCRP, NLR, PA, LYM and Fg were changed by BSI.

Genes related to N6-methyladenosine in the diagnosis and prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Introduction: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic progressive pulmonary fibrotic disease with unknown etiology and poor outcomes. It severely affects the quality of life. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the expression of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA methylation regulators using gene expression data from various tissue sources in IPF patients and healthy volunteers. Methods: The gene expression matrix and clinical characteristics of IPF patients were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. A random forest model was used to construct diagnosis signature m6A regulators. Regression analysis and correlation analysis were used to identify prognosis m6A regulators. Consensus cluster analysis was used to construct different m6A prognosis risk groups, then functional enrichment, immune infiltration and drug sensitivity analysis were performed. Result: Five candidate m6A genes from lung tissue were used to predict the incidence, and the incidence was validated using datasets from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Subsequently, the BALF dataset containing outcomes data was used for the prognosis analysis of m6A regulators. METTL14, G3BP2, and ZC3H13 were independent protective factors. Using correlation analysis with lung function in the lung tissue-derived dataset, METTL14 was a protective factor in IPF. Based on METTL14 and G3BP2, a consensus cluster analysis was applied to distinguish the prognostic m6A regulation patterns. The low-risk group's prognosis was significantly better than the high-risk group. Biological processes regulated by various risk groups included fibrogenesis and cell adhesion. Analysis of immune cell infiltration showed upregulation of neutrophils in the m6A high-risk group. Subsequently, five m6A high-risk group sensitive drugs and one m6A low-risk group sensitive drug were identified. Discussion: These findings suggest that m6A regulators are involved in the diagnosis and prognosis of IPF, and m6A patterns are a method to identify IPF outcomes.

Analysis of Clinical Characteristics of Connective Tissue Disease-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease in 161 Patients: A Retrospective Study

Objective

This study was conducted to retrospectively analyze the clinical characteristics of CTD-ILD patients to provide strategies for clinical management.

Methods

This study collected and analyzed the clinical data and relevant examination results of 161 patients diagnosed with CTD-ILD between 01 January 2018 and 01 January 2021.

Results

A total of 161 CTD-ILD patients, 74.53% were females and 25.47% were males, 32.92% were elderly and 67.08% were non-elderly. The main clinical symptoms of CTD-ILD patients were cough (44.72%), decreased activity tolerance (40.37%). RA-ILD was the most common one in the non-elderly and the elderly CTD-ILD patients (48.15% and 50.94%, respectively). Compared with non-elderly, elderly patients with CTD-ILD had a longer duration of CTD (p=0.04). However, fatigue (p=0.005), activity tolerance (p=0.029), the incidence of pulmonary diffusion dysfunction (p=0.047), and systemic immunoinflammatory index (SII, p=0.014) (platelet × NLR) were all decreased. The standard deviation of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) (p=0.024) and immunoglobulin (IgA) (p=0.033) was significantly increased. The smoking index was significantly higher in men than in women with CTD-ILD (p=0.000), but symptoms of reduced activity tolerance were less pronounced than in women (p<0.05). Elderly CTD-ILD patients (p=0.003) and women from non-elderly patients were prone to lower hemoglobin (p=0.000). Among the elderly, the lymphocyte ratio was more significantly elevated in female CTD-ILD patients than in males (p=0.018). In contrast, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and SII were lower in female (p=0.038) than in male CTD-ILD patients (p=0.043).

Conclusion

CTD-ILD mainly affects non-elderly and women. Age may not be involved with decreased activity tolerance and increased lung function impairment in CTD-ILD patients. However, the elderly patients with CTD-ILD, especially the elderly female patients with low inflammation levels and high immune disorders, have a poor prognosis.

Prognostic Role of NLR, PLR and MHR in Patients With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Background

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive interstitial lung disease with low survival time. Since the pathophysiological progression of IPF is closely associated with immunological and inflammatory responses, immune biomarkers, including neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte-high density lipoprotein ratio (MHR), have the potential to predict overall survival in IPF patients.

Methods

A total of 278 patients with IPF were finally enrolled. The demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients at baseline were recorded. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between the three biomarkers and overall survival in both the total cohort and acute exacerbation subgroup.

Results

The median follow-up was 5.84 months. After adjusting for confounders, we found that only elevated NLR was associated with worse overall survival (OR = 1.019, 95% CI 1.001-1.037, P =0.041) by using multivariable Cox regression analysis. In 116 acute exacerbation IPF patients, the results of the Cox multiple regression model also indicated that the NLR was a significant prognostic factor (OR= 1.022, 95% CI 1.001-1.044, P =0.036). The NLR before death was also significantly higher than that at admission in nonsurvival acute exacerbation IPF patients (P=0.014). No significant differences were found in PLR (P=0.739) or MHR changes (P=0.478).

Conclusions

Our results indicated that elevated NLR expression is associated with shorter overall survival in IPF patients, which is independent of other prognostic factors. The NLR may be regarded as a reliable prognostic biomarker for IPF patients.

Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) Can Be an Early Indicator for Predicting the Severity of Acute Pancreatitis: A Retrospective Study

Objective

Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a new systemic inflammatory prognostic indicator associated with outcomes in patients with different tumors. Studies have shown an association between SII and many chronic/acute inflammatory diseases. This study aimed at exploring whether SII can be used as an effective parameter for predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP).

Methods

A total of 101 acute pancreatitis patients were enrolled in this study (mild acute pancreatitis (MAP): n = 73 and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP): n = 28). Patient demographics and SII were analyzed using the chi-square test, Student’s t-test, and Mann–Whitney U-test. A receiver operating characteristic curve was generated to test the potential of using neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and SII to predict AP’s severity. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine major risk factors.

Results

Patients with SII value ≥2207.53 had a higher probability of having SAP (sensitivity = 92.9%, specificity = 87.7%, and AUC = 0.920), and SII was a significantly better predictive value than PLR and NLR. Logistic regression analysis results showed SII could differentiate MAP from SAP as a major risk factor.

Conclusion

This study has shown that SII is a potential indicator for predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis. The findings suggested that SII is more sensitive and specific than NLR and PLR in predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis.
