Abstract
The major reason for the failure of conventional therapies is the heterogeneity and complexity of tumor microenvironments (TMEs). Many malignant tumors reprogram their surface antigens to evade the immune surveillance, leading to reduced antigen-presenting cells and hindered T-cell activation. Bacteria-mediated cancer immunotherapy has been extensively investigated in recent years. Scientists have ingeniously modified bacteria using synthetic biology and nanotechnology to enhance their biosafety with high tumor specificity, resulting in robust anticancer immune responses. To enhance the antitumor efficacy, therapeutic proteins, cytokines, nanoparticles, and chemotherapeutic drugs have been efficiently delivered using engineered bacteria. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of oncolytic bacterial therapies, covering bacterial design and the intricate interactions within TMEs. Additionally, it offers an in-depth comparison of the current techniques used for bacterial modification, both internally and externally, to maximize their therapeutic effectiveness. Finally, we outlined the challenges and opportunities ahead in the clinical application of oncolytic bacterial therapies.

Abstract
Plant-microbe interactions are pivotal for ecosystem dynamics and sustainable agriculture, and are influenced by various factors, such as host characteristics, environmental conditions, and human activities. Omics technologies, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, have revolutionized our understanding of these interactions. Genomics elucidates key genes, transcriptomics reveals gene expression dynamics, proteomics identifies essential proteins, and metabolomics profiles small molecules, thereby offering a holistic perspective. This review synthesizes diverse microbial-plant interactions, showcasing the application of omics in understanding mechanisms, such as nitrogen fixation, systemic resistance induction, mycorrhizal association, and pathogen-host interactions. Despite the challenges of data integration and ethical considerations, omics approaches promise advancements in precision intervention and resilient agricultural practices. Future research should address data integration challenges, enhance omics technology resolution, explore epigenomics, and understand plant-microbe dynamics under diverse conditions. In conclusion, omics technologies hold immense promise for optimizing agricultural strategies and fortifying resilient plant-microbe alliances, paving the way for sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.

Abstract
A large number of microbial species tend to communicate and produce biofilm which causes numerous microbial infections, antibiotic resistance, and economic problems across different industries. Therefore, advanced anti-biofilms are required with novel attributes and targets, such as quorum sensing communication system. Meanwhile, quorum sensing inhibitors as promising anti-biofilm molecules result in the inhibition of particular phenotype expression blocking of cell-to-cell communication, which would be more acceptable than conventional strategies. Many natural products are identified as anti-biofilm agents from different plants, microorganisms, and marine extracts. Marine algae are promising sources of broadly novel compounds with anti-biofilm activity. Algae extracts and their metabolites such as sulfated polysaccharides (fucoidan), carotenoids (zeaxanthin and lutein), lipid and fatty acids (γ-linolenic acid and linoleic acid), and phlorotannins can inhibit the cell attachment, reduce the cell growth, interfere in quorum sensing pathway by blocking related enzymes, and disrupt extracellular polymeric substances. In this review, the mechanisms of biofilm formation, quorum sensing pathway, and recently identified marine algae natural products as anti-biofilm agents will be discussed.

Abstract
Quorum sensing (QS) is an elaborate regulatory mechanism associated with virulence and bacterial adaptation to the changing environment. QS is widespread in Proteobacteria and acts primarily through N-acylhomoserine lactone (AHL) signals. At the core of the AHL-driven QS systems are the AHL synthase gene (luxI family) and its cognate transcriptional regulator gene (luxR family). Several QS systems display one or more genes intervening between the luxI and luxR, in which gene arrangements are notably different due to the relative position and the transcriptional orientation between the essential luxI/R and the genes of location correlation. These adjacent genes may exert a regulatory impact on the primary QS genes or contribute toward an extension of QS regulatory control. In this review, we describe the organization of AHL-driven QS genes based on previous research and specific genome databases and provide new insights into these atypical QS gene arrangements.

Abstract
Aims The current study aimed to explore the adjuvant therapeutic effect of N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs)-lactonase est816 on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans) biological behaviors and periodontitis progression. Methods The inhibitory properties of est816 were detected by live/dead bacterial staining, scanning electron microscope (SEM), crystal-violet staining and reverse-transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Biocompatibility of est816 on human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) and human gingival epithelial cells (HGEs) was evaluated by CCK8 and ELISA. The ligature-induced periodontitis model was established in rats. Micro computed tomography and immunohistochemical and histological staining served to evaluate the effect of est816 on the prevention of periodontitis in vivo. Results est816 significantly attenuated biofilm formation, reduced the mRNA expression of cytolethal distending toxin, leukotoxin and poly-N-acetyl glucosamine (PNAG) and downregulated expressions of interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α with low cell toxicity. In vivo investigations revealed est816 decreased alveolar bone resorption, suppressed matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression and increased osteoprotegerin expression. Conclusion est816 inhibited A. actinomycetemcomitans biofilm formation and virulence release, resulting in anti-inflammation and soothing of periodontitis in rats, indicating that est816 could be investigated in further research on periodontal diseases.

Abstract
In the rhizosphere, the activities within all processes and functions are primarily influenced by plant roots, microorganisms present in the rhizosphere, and the interactions between roots and microorganisms. The rhizosphere, a dynamic zone surrounding the roots, provides an ideal environment for a diverse microbial community, which significantly shapes plant growth and development. Microbial activity in the rhizosphere can promote plant growth by increasing nutrient availability, influencing plant hormonal signaling, and repelling or outcompeting pathogenic microbial strains. Understanding the associations between plant roots and soil microorganisms has the potential to revolutionize crop yields, improve productivity, minimize reliance on chemical fertilizers, and promote sustainable plant growth technologies. The rhizosphere microbiome could play a vital role in the next green revolution and contribute to sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture. However, there are still knowledge gaps concerning plant root-environment interactions, particularly regarding roots and microorganisms. Advances in metabolomics have helped to understand the chemical communication between plants and soil biota, yet challenges persist. This article provides an overview of the latest advancements in comprehending the communication and interplay between plant roots and microbes, which have been shown to impact crucial factors such as plant growth, gene expression, nutrient absorption, pest and disease resistance, and the alleviation of abiotic stress. By improving these aspects, sustainable agriculture practices can be implemented to increase the overall productivity of plant ecosystems.

Abstract
Fermentation is one of the most effective methods of food preservation. Since ancient times, food has been fermented using lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Fermented milk is a very intricate fermentation ecosystem, and the microbial metabolism of fermented milk largely determines its metabolic properties. The two most frequently used dairy starter strains are Streptococcus thermophilus (S. thermophilus) and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus (L. bulgaricus). To enhance both the culture growth rate and the flavor and quality of the fermented milk, it has long been customary to combine S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricus in milk fermentation due to their mutually beneficial and symbiotic relationship. On the one hand, the symbiotic relationship is reflected by the nutrient co-dependence of the two microbes at the metabolic level. On the other hand, more complex interaction mechanisms, such as quorum sensing between cells, are involved. This review summarizes the application of LAB in fermented dairy products and discusses the symbiotic mechanisms and interactions of milk LAB starter strains from the perspective of nutrient supply and intra- and interspecific quorum sensing. This review provides updated information and knowledge on microbial interactions in a fermented milk ecosystem.

Abstract
Glowing Episcia lilacina was generated through foliar application of the bioluminescent bacterium Vibrio campbellii RMT1. Firstly, different nutrient formulas were tested, incorporating yeast extract and various inorganic salts, such as CaCl2, MgCl2, MgSO4, KH2PO4, K2HPO4, and NaCl, in order to enhance bacterial growth and light emission. The combination of 0.15% of yeast extract and 0.3% of CaCl2 in a nutrient broth (NB) + 1% NaCl medium extended light emission to 24 h and resulted in higher light intensity compared to other combinations of yeast extract and inorganic salts. The peak intensity reached approximately 1.26 × 108 relative light units (RLU) at 7 h. The optimal presence of inorganic salt ions likely contributed to enhanced light emission, while the yeast extract acted as a nutrient source. Secondly, the effect of proline on salt-induced stress symptoms was investigated by applying 20 mM proline to the glowing plant. Additionally, a 0.5% agar nutrient was spread on the leaves prior to bacteria application to support bacterial growth and penetration. Exogenous proline application led to a significant accumulation of proline in plant cells, resulting in decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. However, the proline accumulation also reduced the light intensity of the bioluminescent bacteria. This study demonstrates the potential for generating light on a living plant using bioluminescent bacteria. Further understanding of the interaction between plants and light-emitting bacteria could contribute to the development of sustainably light-emitting plants.

Abstract
Phytopathogenic bacteria not only affect crop yield and quality but also the environment. Understanding the mechanisms involved in their survival is essential to develop new strategies to control plant disease. One such mechanism is the formation of biofilms; i.e., microbial communities within a three-dimensional structure that offers adaptive advantages, such as protection against unfavorable environmental conditions. Biofilm-producing phytopathogenic bacteria are difficult to manage. They colonize the intercellular spaces and the vascular system of the host plants and cause a wide range of symptoms such as necrosis, wilting, leaf spots, blight, soft rot, and hyperplasia. This review summarizes up-to-date information about saline and drought stress in plants (abiotic stress) and then goes on to focus on the biotic stress produced by biofilm-forming phytopathogenic bacteria, which are responsible for serious disease in many crops. Their characteristics, pathogenesis, virulence factors, systems of cellular communication, and the molecules implicated in the regulation of these processes are all covered.

Abstract
Quorum sensing (QS) of various microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, microalgae) today attracts the attention of researchers mainly from the point of view of clarifying the biochemical basics of this general biological phenomenon, establishing chemical compounds that regulate it, and studying the mechanisms of its realization. Such information is primarily aimed at its use in solving environmental problems and the development of effective antimicrobial agents. This review is oriented on other aspects of the application of such knowledge; in particular, it discusses the role of QS in the elaboration of various prospective biocatalytic systems for different biotechnological processes carried out under aerobic and anaerobic conditions (synthesis of enzymes, polysaccharides, organic acids, etc.). Particular attention is paid to the biotechnological aspects of QS application and the use of biocatalysts, which have a heterogeneous microbial composition. The priorities of how to trigger a quorum response in immobilized cells to maintain their long-term productive and stable metabolic functioning are also discussed. There are several approaches that can be realized: increase in cell concentration, introduction of inductors for synthesis of QS-molecules, addition of QS-molecules, and provoking competition between the participants of heterogeneous biocatalysts, etc.).
