sym-Trisubstituted 1,3,5-Triazine Derivatives as Promising Organic Corrosion Inhibitors for Steel in Acidic Solution

Bis(dimethylpyrazolyl)-aniline-s-triazine derivatives as efficient corrosion inhibitors for C-steel and computational studies

4,6-Bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-N-phenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine (PTA-1), N-(4-bromophenyl)-4,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine (PTA-2) and 4,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine (PTA-3) were synthesized and characterized. Their corrosion inhibition of carbon C-steel in 0.25 M H2SO4 was studied by electrochemical impedance. The inhibition efficiency (IE%) of triazine was superior due to the cumulative inhibition of triazine core structure and pyrazole motif. Potentiodynamic polarizations suggested that s-triazine derivatives behave as mixed type inhibitors. The IE% values were 96.5% and 93.4% at 120 ppm for inhibitor PTA-2 and PTA-3 bearing -Br and -OCH3 groups on aniline, respectively. While PTA-1 without an electron donating group showed only 79.0% inhibition at 175 ppm. The adsorption of triazine derivatives followed Langmuir and Frumkin models. The values of adsorption equilibrium constant K°ads and free energy change ΔG°ads revealed that adsorption of inhibitor onto steel surface was favoured. A corrosion inhibition mechanism was proposed suggesting the presence of physical and chemical interactions. Density functional theory computational investigation corroborated nicely with the experimental results. Monte Carlo simulation revealed that the energy associated with the metal/adsorbate arrangement dE ads/dN i, for both forms of PTA-2 and PTA-3 with electron donating groups (-439.73 and -436.62 kcal mol-1) is higher than that of PTA-1 molecule (-428.73 kcal mol-1). This aligned with experimental inhibition efficiency results.

Sodium Succinate as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel Rebars in Simulated Concrete Pore Solution

The inhibiting performance of sodium succinate (Na₂C₄H₄O₄) was evaluated as an organic environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel rebars in 0.6 M Cl^- simulated concrete pore solution. Potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were utilized to evaluate the inhibitor performance at different temperatures and concentrations. The investigated corrosion inhibitor showed strong corrosion inhibition performance as it adsorbs on the surface of the rebar, creating a protective adsorption film. According to PDP, the inhibitor is classified as a mixed-type inhibitor with an inhibitor efficiency of 77, 69, 59, and 54% for 25, 35, 45, and 55 °C, respectively. EIS validated the PDP tests, showing that sodium succinate displaces the water molecules at the interface, creating an adsorption film by complexing with ferrous ions. The film thickness was calculated, and sodium succinate was able to produce a thicker protective film (span of nanometers) relative to the reference at every temperature. The adsorption of sodium succinate follows the Temkin adsorption isotherm. ΔG⁰_ads was found to be -32.75 kJ/mol, indicating that the inhibitor adsorption is a combined physisorption and chemisorption process. Different surface characterizations were utilized to substantiate the adsorption of sodium succinate, these include scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and micro-Raman spectroscopy. Finally, quantum chemical calculations showed that the delocalized electrons in the carboxyl group have high HOMO energies and electrostatic potential, which facilitates the adsorption of sodium succinate corrosion inhibitor onto the carbon steel rebar surface.

Synthesis of new pyridines with sulfonamide moiety via a cooperative vinylogous anomeric-based oxidation mechanism in the presence of a novel quinoline-based dendrimer-like ionic liquid

In the present study, we reported the synthesis of a novel quinoline-based dendrimer-like ionic liquid. After characterization of the mentioned ionic liquid with suitable techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), elemental mapping, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), its catalytic performance was investigated in the synthesis of new pyridines with sulfonamide moiety via a cooperative vinylogous anomeric-based oxidation mechanism under mild reaction conditions. All target molecules were achieved in short reaction times and high yields.

Chitosan-S-triazinyl-bis(2-aminomethylpyridine) and Chitosan-S-triazinyl-bis(8-oxyquinoline) Derivatives: New Reagents for Silver Nanoparticle Preparation and Their Effect of Antimicrobial Evaluation

Herein, we described the modification of chitosan with cyanuric chloride as a mediator for preparation of chitosan-s-triazinyl-bis(2-aminomethylpyridine) and chitosan-s-triazinyl-bis(8-oxyquinoline) derivatives to be used as reagents for preparation of silver nanoparticles under ecofriendly conditions. These two reagents are convenient and effective for reduction of silver ions to silver nanoparticles with particle size less than 10 nm that might be suitable for industrial and medicinal applications. The formation and particle size of AgNPs are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The antimicrobial activity of the two modified chitosan-s-triazine-AgNPs was evaluated against activities against Gram-positive bacteria (M. luteus ATCC 10240 and MRSA ATCC 43300), Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli ATCC 25922 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 75853), and C. albicans. The results showed that chitosan-s-triazinyl-bis(2-aminomethylpyridine) AgNPs showed high antimicrobial activities against all the tested microorganisms, while their analogous chitosan-s-triazinyl-bis(8-oxyquinoline) AgNPs showed moderate activities.

Sterically enriched bulky 1,3-bis(N,N′-aralkyl)benzimidazolium based Pd-PEPPSI complexes for Buchwald–Hartwig amination reactions

A simple and efficient synthesis of a series of unexisting Pd-PEPPSI complexes is summarized. These complexes are exploited for their high catalytic activity towards Buchwald–Hartwig amination.

Hydrazino-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine Derivatives' Excellent Corrosion Organic Inhibitors of Steel in Acidic Chloride Solution

The corrosion inhibition performance of 2-hydrazino-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-tirazine (DMeHT), 2,4-dihydrazino-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triaizine (DHMeT), and 2,4,6-tridydrazino-1,3,5-triaizne (TH₃) on steel corrosion in acidic media was examined using electrochemical techniques. The results showed 2,4-Ddihydrazino-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triaizine (DHMeT) gave the best corrosion protection performance among the other hydrazino derivatives even at a low concentration of 25 ppm (95%). The number of hydrazino groups play an important role in the corrosion inhibition, where the two hydrazine groups increased the electrostatic interactions between the protonated tested compounds, the negatively charged steel surface resulted from the adsorption of the chloride anions, and the presence of the methoxy group made the compound more reliable for formation of film protection on the surface of steel through the lone pair of oxygen atoms. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements suggested that the corrosion process of steel in presence of the hydrazino-s-triazine derivatives (TH₃, DMeHT and DHMeT) were being controlled by the charge transfer reaction. Polarization curves indicated that the examined TH₃, DMeHT and DHMeT behaved as mixed type inhibitors.
