Abstract
The origin of breast cancer (BC) is widely considered to be a result of multiple factors, including both genetic and dietary influences. Dietary patterns shaped by calorie restriction-defined as reduced energy intake without inducing malnutrition, and varying ratios of the three major nutrients are thought to influence tumorigenesis. However, the complex interplay between caloric restriction, carbohydrate intake ratios, and genetic predisposition in influencing BC risk remains inadequately understood. This study aimed to explore these relationships in greater depth. A prospective cohort study which included 139,829 participants aged 40-72 years was conducted. We evaluated the association between dietary carbohydrate ratio under caloric restriction and the BC risk in a genetic risk group by using Cox proportional hazards regression models. The analysis also included a calculation of polygenic risk score (PRS) based on 304 breast cancer-associated genetic loci. A high dietary carbohydrate ratio pattern under caloric restriction was significantly associated with a 21% reduction in BC risk, respectively (HRG4 VS G1 = 0.80, 95% CI 0.66-0.97, P = 0.021), whereas a low PRS (lowest tertile) was associated with 0.84-fold decrease in risk (HRlow VS high = 0.84, 95%CI 0.72-0.98, P = 0.032). Compared with other participants, those at intermediate genetic risk with low carbohydrate ratio above caloric restriction showed a higher risk of BC (HR = 1.39, 95% CI 1.01-1.90, P = 0.041). In this cohort study, a diet pattern characterized by a high ratio of carbohydrates under conditions of caloric restriction may attenuate the impact of genetic factors on BC risk in individuals of European ancestry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An increasing number of studies in recent years investigate various dietary and lifestyle patterns and associated breast cancer (BC) risk. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to comprehensively synthesize and grade the evidence on dietary and lifestyle patterns and BC risk. METHODS Databases were systematically searched up to 31 March, 2022, for evidence from randomised controlled trials and prospective cohort studies on adherence to a dietary pattern alone or in combination with lifestyle behaviors and incidence of or mortality from primary BC in adult females. Findings in all, premenopausal, and postmenopausal females were descriptively synthesized instead of meta-analyzed due to patterns heterogeneity. An independent Global Cancer Update Programme Expert Panel graded the strength of the evidence. RESULTS A total of 84 publications were included. Results for patterns reflecting both a healthy diet and lifestyle were more consistent than for patterns that included diet only. There was strong-probable evidence that a priori World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) and American Cancer Society (ACS) dietary and lifestyle scores may reduce BC risk in all and postmenopausal females, whereas in premenopausal females, less evidence was found contributing to limited-suggestive grade. There was also a limited-suggestive evidence that adherence to the Healthy Lifestyle Index and other diet and lifestyle scores may reduce BC risk in postmenopausal females; a posteriori Western/Meat/Alcohol dietary patterns may increase BC risk in postmenopausal females; and Prudent/Vegetarian/Mediterranean dietary patterns may reduce BC risk in all females. For the remaining patterns, evidence was graded as limited-no conclusions. CONCLUSIONS Advice to adopt combined aspects of a healthy diet and lifestyle according to WCRF/AICR and ACS scores, encouraging a healthy weight, physical activity, alcohol and smoking avoidance, and a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, (whole)grains and cereals and discouraging red and processed meat, can be proposed to females to lower BC risk. Abstract
Rice with high resistant starch (RS) exhibits the potential to improve glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity. In this study, using two rice varieties-Samgwang, a medium-amylose rice, and Dodamssal, a high-amylose rice containing RS-we analyzed the composition and molecular structural characteristics of brown rice and its starch and the effects on fasting blood glucose levels, fecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA), and gut microbiota after 8 weeks of consumption in mice. The amylose content of heat-treated Samgwang (HS) and -Dodamssal (HD) was 21.0 ± 0.2 and 47.5 ± 0.3 %, respectively, while RS contents were 0.8 ± 0.0 and 14.7 ± 1.0 %. HD exhibited a C-type starch crystallinity with a lower proportion of short chains and a higher proportion of long chains compared to HS. HD-fed mice exhibited lower fasting blood glucose levels and the highest SCFA levels in their feces. They also had the highest abundance of Ruminococcus bromii, an RS-degrading bacterium, the highest positive correlation with Faecalicatena fissicatena (r = 0.9), and the highest negative correlation with Lachnoclostridium scindens and Lawsonibacter asaccharolyticus (r = -0.8). Overall, HD consumption can improve glucose metabolism by increasing intestinal SCFA production and can serve as a prebiotic dietary ingredient to improve obesity and diabetes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The obesity prevalence in South Korea in 2021 stood at 38.4%. South Korea faces unique challenges in providing essential and emergency guidelines for weight management because of stepping into an aging society. We aimed to determine the daily diet patterns among the general Korean population and to investigate the association between such patterns and different obesity. STUDY DESIGN Longitudinal prospective cohort study. METHODS A total of 6539 adult participants (mean age 50.8 years, 52.9% male) with normal-weight adults were included from the Ansan-Ansung cohort of 10,030 Korean adults aged 40 or older and followed for an average of 11 years. Obesity was defined according to the criteria from the Korean Society for The Study of Obesity. Baseline dietary intake was assessed using a validated 103-item food frequency questionnaire. Dietary patterns were derived from k-means cluster analysis. RESULTS In the multivariate analysis, referring to white rice + baechu kimchi, participants from multigrain rice + baechu kimchi showed lower HR for obesity development (waist circumference defined-obesity; HR: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.79, 0.95; body fat percentage defined-obesity; HR: 0.89, 95% CI: 0.80, 0.98). Further analysis documented that except for body fat percentage defined-obesity, consuming milk or dairy products was linked to a reduced incidence of the other three obesity (body mass index defined-obesity; HR: 0.84, 95% CI: 0.72, 0.99; waist circumference defined-obesity; HR: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.71, 0.94; waist-to-hip ratio defined-obesity; HR: 0.75, 95% CI: 0.61, 0.91). CONCLUSIONS Following a diet that includes multigrain rice, fermented baechu kimchi, and dairy products is linked to a decreased risk of obesity in Korean adults. Public health programs and policies could incorporate these dietary recommendations, targeting specific population groups such as schoolchildren, adults, and the elderly. Additionally, further research is needed to explore the synergistic effects of various foods and their interactions within dietary patterns on obesity outcomes.

Abstract
Cancer is a major health burden in Korea, and dietary factors have been suggested as putative risk factors for cancer development at various sites. This study systematically reviewed the published literature investigating the associations between dietary factors and cancer incidence among Korean adults, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses guidelines. We focused on the 5 most studied cancer sites (stomach, colorectum, breast, thyroid, and cervix) as outcomes and dietary exposures with evidence levels greater than limited-suggestive according to the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) panel's judgment for any of the cancer sites. This resulted in the inclusion of 72 studies. Pooled estimates of the impact of dietary factors on cancer risk suggested protective associations of fruits and vegetables with risks for gastric cancer (GC), colorectal cancer (CRC), and breast cancer (BC) and dietary vitamin C with the risk of GC, as well as a harmful association between fermented soy products and the risk of GC. Despite the limited number of studies, we observed consistent protective associations of dietary fiber with GC and dietary fiber, coffee, and calcium with CRC. These findings are largely consistent with the WCRF/AICR expert report. However, pooled estimates for the associations of other salt-preserved foods with GC, meat with CRC, and dietary carotenoids and dairy products with BC did not reach statistical significance. Further studies with prospective designs, larger sample sizes, and diverse types of dietary factors and cancer sites are necessary.

Abstract
White rice is the food more than half of the world's population depends on. White rice intake can significantly increase the glycemic load of consumers and bring some adverse health effects. However, the quality of evidence implicating white rice in adverse health outcomes remains unclear. To evaluate the association between white rice consumption and the risk of cardiometabolic and cancer outcomes, a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of the relevant publications were performed. Twenty-three articles including 28 unique prospective cohorts with 1,527,198 participants proved eligible after a comprehensive search in four databases. For the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the pooled RR was 1.18 (16 more per 1000 persons) for comparing the highest with the lowest category of white rice intake, with moderate certainty evidence. Females presented a higher risk (23 more per 1000 persons) in subgroup analysis. And every additional 150 grams of white rice intake per day was associated with a 6% greater risk of T2DM (5 more per 1000 persons) with a linear positive trend. We found no significant associations between white rice intake and risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), CVD mortality, cancer, and metabolic syndrome. In conclusion, moderate certainty evidence demonstrated that white rice intake was associated with T2DM risk, with a linear positive trend. However, low to very low certainty of evidence suggested that no substantial associations were found between white rice intake and other cardiometabolic and cancer outcomes. More cohorts are needed to strength the evidence body.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Numerous studies have investigated the efficacy of whole grains; however, research on multigrain remains limited. Grains exhibit combined positive effects against various diseases. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of multigrain and white rice consumption on periodontitis. METHODS We analyzed data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey V-3 and VI, collected between 2012 and 2015, which included 12,450 patients (4,859 male and 7,591 female) aged 19-64 years. The World Health Organization's Community Periodontal Index (CPI) was utilized to assess the presence of periodontitis, with periodontitis defined as a CPI index score of ≥3. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed after adjusting for potential confounding variables. RESULTS The group that consumed only multigrain rice was less likely to have periodontitis than the group that consumed only white rice (odds ratio [OR], 0.80; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.69 to 0.93). When stratified by sex, the risk of periodontitis demonstrated a 24% decrease in female who consumed only multigrain rice (OR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.62 to 0.93). A similar result was observed in the age group of 40-64 years (OR, 0.84; 95% CI, 0.71 to 0.99). In the diabetes stratification model, the normal group that consumed only multigrain rice exhibited a 25% decrease in the odds of periodontitis (OR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.62 to 0.91). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that the prevalence of periodontitis may vary depending on the type of rice consumed.

Abstract
Background Statistics indicate that the morbidity of breast cancer is increasing globally, and its (overall figures) incidence has now surpassed that of lung cancer for the first time. The relation between a whole dietary pattern, rather than of a single food or nutrient, and breast cancer (BC) should be examined for findings to capture the complexities of diet and the potential for synergism between dietary components. Hence, the effects of dietary patterns on breast cancer have recently attracted increasing attention. Objective To systematically review the effects of dietary patterns on breast cancer risk, prognosis, and quality of life in survivors. Methods This systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO. Data from Ovid, China Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, CNKI, PubMed, Weipu, The Cochrane Library, Duxiu Data, ProQuest, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus Database were retrieved and evaluated. Results A total of 47 studies that investigated the association between eating patterns and breast cancer were identified. Ten studies evaluated the effect of the model on treatment outcome and prognosis of breast cancer and two cross-sectional studies examined the influence of dietary patterns on quality of life. The resulting favorable dietary patterns were shown to regulate metabolic biomarkers, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and protective genes, and inhibit cell proliferation and invasion. Conclusion Numerous studies have examined the effects of healthy eating, plant-based, anti-inflammation, low-fat, and other favorable dietary patterns in relation to breast cancer. However, few studies reported significant associations and the studies had limitations, suggesting that the current findings should be interpreted with caution. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Female-specific cancers seriously affect physical and psychological health of women worldwide. OBJECTIVES We aimed to elucidate trends in the age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) of breast cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer in female populations with different socioeconomic statuses in China and in countries with different Human Development Index (HDI). METHODS A longitudinal study was performed using the data of cancer death in China and other 39 countries. The mortality rates were standardized with the Segi's world population. Trends in the mortalities were exhibited by estimated annual percentage change (EAPC). Pearson correlation was used to assess the association between EAPC and HDI. RESULTS In mainland China, female breast cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer accounted for 6.60 %, 4.21 %, 2.50 %, and 2.02 % of cancer death (n = 1,314,040) in women with 1,220,251,032 person-years, respectively. The ASMRs of cervical cancer (EAPC = 3.87 %, P < 0.001) and ovarian cancer (EAPC = 1.81 %, P < 0.001) increased, that of female breast cancer unchanged, whereas that of uterine cancer was extremely higher and rapidly decreased (EAPC = - 7.65 %, P < 0.001), during 2004-2019. The ASMRs of female breast and ovarian cancers were higher in urban and developed regions than in rural and undeveloped regions, in contrast to cervical and uterine cancers. The ASMRs of female breast and ovarian cancers were lower in China than in other countries, in contrast to uterine cancer. The ASMR of cervical cancer decreased, that of uterine cancer increased, in other countries during 2004-2017. EAPCs for the ASMRs of breast and ovarian cancers were inversely correlated to HDI. CONCLUSION The ASMRs of cervical and ovarian cancers increased, in contrast to uterine cancer, in China during socioeconomic transition. Trends in the ASMRs of breast and ovarian cancers were inversely associated with HDI. These data help control female-specific cancers.

Abstract
Genetic change, particularly epigenetic alteration, is one of the imperative factors for sporadic breast cancer development in the worldwide population of women. The DNA methylation process is essential and natural for human cellular renewal and tissue homeostasis, but its dysregulation contributes to many pathological changes, including breast tumorigenesis. Chemopreventive agents mainly protect the abnormal DNA methylation either by hindering the division of pre-malignant cells or looming the DNA damage, which leads to malignancy. The present review article is about understanding the potential role of dietary phytochemicals in breast cancer prevention. Accordingly, a literature search of the published article until August 2021 has been performed. Further, we have investigated the binding affinity of different phytochemicals isolated from diverse dietary sources against the various oncogenic proteins related to breast cancer initiation to understand the common target(s) in breast cancer prevention mechanisms. Various small phytochemicals, especially dietary phytochemicals including sulforaphane, mahanine, resveratrol, linolenic acid, diallyl sulfide, benzyl/phenethyl isothiocyanate, etc. are being investigated as the chemopreventive agent to manage breast cancer development, and some of them have shown promising outcomes in the cited research. In this present review, we discuss the recent advancement in acceptance of such types of potential dietary phytochemicals as a chemopreventive agent against breast cancer development and their inner lining mechanism. The critical clinical trials and cohort studies have also been considered to understand the progress in contemporary perspectives.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Epidemiological studies indicate that alcohol increases gastric cancer (GC) risk, yet most studies have focused on heavy alcohol intake, leaving other factors understudied. A comprehensive investigation of the effects of the frequency and amount of alcohol intake may help elucidate the GC risk associated with drinking behavior. METHODS The Health Examinees-Gem (HEXA-G) study, a community-based large-scale prospective cohort study, enrolled Korean adults 40-69 years of age between the years 2004 and 2013. Incident GC cases were identified through linkage to Korea Central Cancer Registry data until December 31, 2017. Self-reported questionnaires were used to survey alcohol consumption-related factors (duration, frequency, amount, and type of alcoholic beverages). The frequency and amount of alcohol consumption were combined to explore GC risk according to 4 drinking patterns: "infrequent-light", "frequent-light", "infrequent-heavy", and "frequent-heavy". We used Cox proportional hazard models to estimate the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and investigate the relationship between alcohol intake and GC incidence. RESULTS A total of 128,218 participants were included in the analysis. During an average follow-up period of 8.6 years, 462 men and 385 women were diagnosed with GC. In men, current drinkers showed a 31% greater risk of GC than non-drinkers (HR 1.31, 95% CI 1.03-1.66), whereas no significant association was observed in women. In men, GC risk was associated with a higher frequency (P trend 0.02) and dose of ethanol intake in grams (P trend 0.03). In men, the "frequent-light" (≥5 times/week and <40 g ethanol/day) drinking pattern was associated with a 46% greater risk of GC (HR 1.46, 95% CI 1.02-2.07) than the "infrequent-light" pattern (<5 times/week and <40 g ethanol/day). CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that frequent intake of alcohol, even in low quantities per session, increases GC risk. Further research is warranted to evaluate the relationship between alcohol and GC in detail.

Abstract
Acrylamide is a potentially toxic compound present in many plant-based foods, such as coffee, breads, and potato fries, which is reported to have carcinogenic, neurotoxic, and antifertility properties in vivo, suggesting the need to keep the acrylamide content of widely consumed food as low as possible. As pigmented rice contains bioactive phenolic and flavonoid compounds, the objective of this study was to potentially enhance the beneficial properties of flatbreads by evaluating the acrylamide content and proximate composition of 12 novel flatbreads prepared from the following commercial pigmented rice seeds: Black Japonica, Chinese Black, French Camargue, Himalayan Red, Long Grain Brown, Purple Sticky, Short Grain Brown, Wehani, Wild, Indian Brown Basmati, Organic Brown Jasmine, and Organic Jade Pearl. Although acrylamide levels ranged from 4.9 µg/kg in Long Grain Brown to 50.8 µg/kg in Chinese Black, the absolute values were all low (though statistically significantly differences existed among varieties). Acrylamide content did not correlate with its precursor asparagine. The variations in protein, carbohydrate, fat, ash, dry matter, and water content determined by proximate analysis, and the reported health benefits of colored rice cultivars used to prepare the flatbreads, might also be useful for relating composition to nutritional qualities and health properties, facilitating their use as nutritional and health-promoting functional foods.
