Abstract
BACKGROUND Pulmonary embolism is a common disease associated with high mortality and morbidity. Diagnosing pulmonary embolism is challenging due to diverse clinical presentations and the lack of specific biomarkers. The study aimed to investigate the diagnostic value on pulmonary embolism for postpartum women by D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio, and it combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio or platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio. METHODS A total of 537 women with suspected pulmonary embolism were selected as the research subjects from the Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital between 1 January 2019 and 31 October 2022. The D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio and it combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio or platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio were applied to evaluate the clinical probability of pulmonary embolism, and the positive predictive value of both scores were calculated using computed tomography pulmonary arteriography as a gold standard. The diagnostic value of D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio, combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio or platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio was evaluated by the area under the curve, sensitivity, specificity, and other indicators in the receiver operator characteristic curve. RESULTS Among the 502 women included for analysis, 194 (38.65%) were definitely diagnosed as pulmonary embolism. The positive predictive values of D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio and it combined with platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio or neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio were 70.1%, 50.5%, and 56.5%, respectively in the postpartum women, the area under the curve for the D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio and it combined with platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio or neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio were 0.606 (95%CI: 0.562-0.650), 0.624 (95%CI: 0.575-0.673), and 0.639 (95%CI: 0.592-0.686), respectively. The negative predictive values of D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio, it combined with platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio or neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio were 50.5%, 70.1%, and 69.8%, respectively. CONCLUSION The diagnostic value of the D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio was higher than the D-dimer for the postpartum women with suspected pulmonary embolism. The combination of either the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio or the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio with D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio is an appropriate strategy to rule out pulmonary embolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to investigate the postoperative prognosis in patients with early-stage laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) in association with the preoperative blood markers and clinicopathological characteristics and to develop nomograms for individual risk prediction. METHODS The clinical data of 353 patients with confirmed early-stage LSCC between 2009 and 2018 were retrospectively retrieved from the First Affiliated Hospital with Nanjing Medical University. All patients were randomly divided into the training and testing groups in a 7:3 ratio. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed, followed by the construction of nomograms to predict recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). Finally, the nomograms were verified internally, and the predictive capability of the nomograms was evaluated and compared with that of tumour T staging. RESULTS Univariate and multivariate analyses identified platelet counts (PLT), fibrinogen (FIB), and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were independent factors for RFS, and FIB, systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and haemoglobin (HGB) were independent prognostic factors for OS. The nomograms showed higher predictive C-indexes than T staging. Furthermore, decision curve analysis (DCA) revealed that the net benefit of the nomograms' calculation model was superior to that of T staging. CONCLUSIONS We established and validated nomograms to predict postoperative 1-, 3- and 5-year RFS and OS in patients with early-stage LSCC based on significant blood markers and clinicopathological characteristics. These models might help clinicians make personalized treatment decisions.

Abstract
Background Ischemic stroke is a common type of stroke that leads to death and functional disability in hypertensive patients. However, there are no well-studied non-invasive and less expensive fluid biomarkers routinely used to detect ischemic stroke in hypertensive patients. Hence, this study aimed to tease out the performance of D-dimer, fibrinogen, and the D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio (DDFR) in predicting hypertension-associated acute ischemic stroke. Methods A hospital-based cross-sectional study was done from October 2022 to January 2022 at Yikatit 12 Hospital Medical College, Ethiopia. We recruited 55 hypertensive patients who had an ischemic stroke and 110 who did not. A ROC curve was used to calculate the areas under the curves (AUCs) and determine the diagnostic power of the D-dimer, fibrinogen, and DDFR. The Youden index was used to find the best cut-off points for biomarkers in detecting acute ischemic stroke. A De Long test was employed to show whether there was a significant difference between the AUCs of biomarkers in diagnosing ischemic stroke. Results D-dimer yielded the highest diagnostic power (AUC = 0.776) in detecting acute ischemic stroke, followed by DDFR (AUC = 0.763) and fibrinogen (AUC = 0.694), but there was no significant difference between them. At 0.52 μg/ml cut-off point, D-dimer had 82.9% sensitivity, 66.7% specificity, 62.5% PPV, and 85.3% NPV to diagnose acute ischemic stroke. Fibrinogen could detect acute ischemic stroke at 405.85 mg/dl level, with 70.0% sensitivity, 57.1% specificity, 41.2% PPV and 81.6% NPV. At a 1.83 ratio, DDFR might also identify ischemic stroke with 80.0% sensitivity, 67.1% specificity, 51.1% PPV, and 88.7% NPV. Conclusion We showed D-dimer, fibrinogen, and DDFR as promising, affordable, and non-invasive biomarkers for the detection of ischemic stroke among subjects with hypertension. This will help clinicians make an early diagnosis and better guide patient therapy.

Abstract
Background The occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiac surgery is common and linked to unfavorable consequences while identifying it in its early stages remains a challenge. The aim of this research was to examine whether the fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR), an innovative inflammation-related risk indicator, has the ability to predict the development of AKI in individuals after cardiac surgery. Methods Patients who underwent cardiac surgery from February 2023 to March 2023 and were admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit of a tertiary teaching hospital were included in this prospective observational study. AKI was defined according to the KDIGO criteria. To assess the diagnostic value of the FAR in predicting AKI, calculations were performed for the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI). Results Of the 260 enrolled patients, 85 developed AKI with an incidence of 32.7%. Based on the multivariate logistic analyses, FAR at admission [odds ratio (OR), 1.197; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.064-1.347, p = 0.003] was an independent risk factor for AKI. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve indicated that FAR on admission was a significant predictor of AKI [AUC, 0.685, 95% CI: 0.616-0.754]. Although the AUC-ROC of the prediction model was not substantially improved by adding FAR, continuous NRI and IDI were significantly improved. Conclusions FAR is independently associated with the occurrence of AKI after cardiac surgery and can significantly improve AKI prediction over the clinical prediction model.

Nomogram for Predicting Recurrence-Free Survival of Primary Localized Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor. J Pers Med 2023; 13:jpm13030498. Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to establish a new nomogram that predicts recurrence-free survival (RFS) after a complete surgical resection of primary localized gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs); it also aimed to evaluate the discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility of the decision-making nomogram. Methods: The clinicopathological data of patients with primary localized GISTs at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2000 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinicopathological data were randomly split into two sets (7:3 ratio) for training and validation. Suitable variables for the construction of a nomogram for the 1-, 3-, and 5-year RFS were selected using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and a concordance index (C-index) were used to quantify the discrimination of the nomogram and were compared with four commonly used prognostic scoring systems: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center prognostic nomogram, National Institutes of Health–Fletcher staging system, Chen’s prognostic nomogram, and Air Forces Institute of Pathology risk criteria–Miettinen staging system. The calibration and clinical utility for the decision-making nomogram were validated using calibration curves and decision curves, respectively. Results: In total, 641 patients were screened and analyzed in this retrospective, observational study. RFS was significantly related to tumor size, mitotic count, gender, DOG-1, and adjuvant therapy with imatinib according to the results of the multivariate and univariate Cox analyses. The nomogram was constructed using the above variables (all p < 0.05) for the 1-, 3-, and 5-year RFS. In the training set, the 1-, 3-, and 5-year ROC and C-index values of the nomogram were 0.868, 0.838, 0.816, and 0.830, respectively. For internal validation, we performed model fitting on the validation set, and the 1-, 3-, and 5-year ROC and C-indices were 0.977, 0.845, 0.869, and 0.849, respectively. Among the five GIST prognostic scoring systems, our nomogram had almost all the largest area under these decision curves and had a good calibration capability. Conclusions: The newly constructed nomogram based on tumor size, gender, mitotic count, DOG-1, and adjuvant treatment with imatinib exhibited an excellent performance and may serve as a prognostic scoring system to support therapeutic decision-making and individualized treatment for GISTs in China.

Abstract
Background/aim Coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a pandemic infectious disease that causes morbidity and mortality. As a result of high mortality rate among the severe COVID-19 patients, the early detection of the disease stage and early effective interventions are very important in reducing mortality. Hence, it is important to differentiate severe and nonsevere cases from each other. To date, there are no proven diagnostic or prognostic parameters that can be used in this manner. Due to the expensive and not easily accessible tests that are performed for COVID-19, researchers are investigating some parameters that can be easily used. In some recent studies, hematological parameters have been evaluated to see if they can be used as predictive parameters. Materials and methods In the current study, almost all hematological parameters were used, including the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, monocyte/lymphocyte ratio, mean platelet volume to lymphocyte ratio, mean platelet volume to platelet ratio, plateletcrit, and D-dimer/fibrinogen ratio, neutrophil/lymphocyte/platelet scoring system, and systemic immune-inflammation index. A total of 750 patients, who were admitted to Ankara City Hospital due to COVID-19, were evaluated in this study. The patients were classified into 2 groups according to their diagnosis (confirmed or probable) and into 2 groups according to the stage of the disease (nonsevere or severe). Results The values of the combinations of inflammatory markers and other hematological parameters in all of the patients with severe COVID-19 were calculated, and the predicted values of these parameters were compared. According to results of the study, nearly all of the hematological parameters could be used as potential diagnostic biomarkers for subsequent analysis, because the area under the curve (AUC) was higher than 0.50, especially for the DFR and NLR, which had the highest AUC among the parameters. Conclusion Our findings indicate that, the parameters those enhanced from complete blood count, which is a simple laboratory test, can help to identify and classify COVID-19 patients into non-severe to severe groups.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In acute COVID-19, D-Dimer levels can be elevated and those patients are at risk for thromboembolic events. This study aims to investigate differences in preoperative D-Dimer levels in SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and negative patients undergoing primary total knee and total hip replacement (TJA) or spine surgery. METHODS D-Dimer levels of 48 SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and 718 SARS-CoV-2 IgG negative spine surgery patients were compared to those of 249 SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and 2102 SARS-CoV-2 IgG negative TJA patients. Patients were assigned into groups based on D-Dimer levels as follows: <200 ng/mL, 200-400 ng/mL, and >400 ng/mL D-Dimer Units (DDU). RESULTS D-Dimer levels did neither differ significantly between SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive spine surgery patients and TJA patients (p = 0.1), nor between SARS-CoV-2 IgG negative spine surgery and TJA patients (p = 0.7). In addition, there was no difference between SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and negative spine surgery patients and SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and negative TJA patients (p = 0.3). CONCLUSIONS There is no difference in D-Dimer levels between SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and negative patients and there does not seem to be any difference for different orthopedic specialty patients. Routine testing of D-Dimer levels is not recommended for patients undergoing elective orthopedic surgery.

Abstract
Fourty-five breast cancer patients and 50 apparently healthy sex-matched controls from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital were enrolled in this study. Plasma D-dimer and fibrinogen were found to be significantly higher than controls; APTT was significantly shorter than the controls. D-dimer and fibrinogen were also significantly positively correlated with ECOG, disease stage, lymph node involvement, and tumor size. On multivariate analysis, D-dimer and fibrinogen were found to be independently related to lymph node involvement. This study shows that plasma D-dimer and fibrinogen levels are elevated in breast cancer patients, and both are markers of disease progression.

Abstract
The role of activation of the coagulation and fibrinolysis system in the pathogenesis and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) has drawn wide attention. Recently, the D-dimer to fibrinogen ratio (DFR) is considered as a useful biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of ischemic stroke and pulmonary embolism. However, few studies have explored the relationship between DFR and cardiovascular disease. In our study, patients were divided into 2 groups according to DFR value: the lower group (DFR < 0.52, n = 2123) and the higher group (DFR ≥ 0.52, n = 1073). The primary outcome was all-cause mortality (ACM) and cardiac mortality (CM). The average follow-up time was 37.59 ± 22.24 months. We found that there were significant differences between the 2 groups in term of ACM (2.4% vs 6.6%, P < 0.001) and CM (1.5% vs 4.0%, P < 0.001). Kaplan-Meier analyses showed that elevated DFR had higher incidences of ACM (log rank P < 0.001) and CM (log rank P < 0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analyses showed that DFR was an independent predictor of ACM (HR = 1.743, 95%CI: 1.187-2.559 P = 0.005) and CM (HR = 1.695, 95%CI: 1.033-2.781 P = 0.037). This study indicates that DFR is an independent and novel predictor of long-term ACM and CM in post-PCI patients with CAD.

Abstract
Objective To explore the prognostic value of preoperative fibrinogen to albumin ratio (FAR) in patients with glioblastoma (GBM) and its association with clinical characteristics. Patients and Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out on patients with newly diagnosed GBM who had undergone operation at the Department of Neurosurgery at West China Hospital between June 1st 2015 to June 31st 2018. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were performed to determine the optimal cut-off values for fibrinogen, albumin, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and FAR by calculating the maximum Youden index. Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox regression analyses were applied to evaluate the prognostic value of FAR in GBM. Harrell concordance index (C-index) and Akaike information criterion (AIC) were calculated to compare different prognostic models. Results A total of 206 GBM patients were included in this research. The optimal cut-off value for fibrinogen, albumin, NLR, and FAR were 2.57, 42.4, 2.28, and 0.068 respectively. High FAR was significantly related to older age, KPS≤80, IDH-1 wildtype, presence of preoperative seizures, higher NLR, and tumor location. In Cox regression analyses, high FAR was significantly associated with poor prognosis. Prognostic models including FAR had the largest C-index and lowest AIC. Conclusion FAR was determined to be an independent risk factor of prognosis in patients with newly-diagnosed GBM. And the prognostic predictive ability of FAR is stronger than fibrinogen and albumin.

Abstract
PURPOSE Elevated fibrinogen (Fbg) levels contribute to tumor progression and metastasis. However, little is known regarding the association of the clinicopathological characteristics and the prognosis of hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HC) with plasma fibrinogen. METHODS Data on the plasma Fbg levels, clinicopathological characteristics, and overall survival were retrospectively collected. Plasma fibrinogen concentrations over 4.0 g/L were classified as hyperfibrinogen, elevated fibrinogen, or abnormal fibrinogen levels. We then analyzed the relationships among plasma fibrinogen level, clinicopathological features, and patient prognosis. RESULTS A total of 171 HC patients were included. An elevated plasma fibrinogen level was associated with lymph-node metastasis (P < 0.001), the AJCC stage (P < 0.001), the surgical margin (P = 0.005), and vascular invasion (P = 0.027). Univariate analyses revealed that preoperative plasma fibrinogen (P < 0.001), operative blood loss (P = 0.044), vascular invasion (P < 0.001), CA19-9 (P = 0.003), surgical margin (P < 0.001), T stage (P < 0.001), histologic differentiation (P = 0.007), and lymph-node metastasis (P < 0.001) were associated with OS. The survival time of patients with high Fbg levels was shorter than that of patients with normal fibrinogen levels (P < 0.001). Furthermore, a multivariate analysis showed that fibrinogen was negatively and independently associated with the HC prognosis (P = 0.029). CONCLUSIONS An elevated plasma Fbg level was associated with lymph-node metastasis, vascular invasion, the surgical margin, and the tumor stage, and the Fbg level might therefore be an independent factor associated with poor outcomes in HC patients.

Abstract
Purpose The prognostic value of a new scoring system, termed F-NLR, that combines pretreatment fibrinogen level with neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio has been evaluated in various cancers. However, the results are controversial. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively analyze the prognostic value of F-NLR score in patients with cancers. Methods An integrated search of relevant studies was conducted by screening the PubMed and Embase databases. Pooled hazard ratios, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS)/progression-free survival (PFS) were calculated to estimate the prognostic significance of F-NLR score in patients with various tumors. A random effects model was used for comprehensive analysis, and subgroup and meta-regression analyses were used to explore sources of heterogeneity. Results Thirteen articles reporting data from of 4747 patients were included in the study. Pooled analysis revealed that high F-NLR score was significantly associated with poor OS (HR = 1.77; 95% CI, 1.51–2.08) and poor DFS/PFS (HR = 1.63; 95% CI, 1.30–2.05). Subgroup and meta-regression analyses did not alter the prognostic role of F-NLR score in OS and DFS/PFS. Conclusions Increased F-NLR score is significantly associated with poor prognosis in patients with cancers and can serve as an effective prognostic indicator.

Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the clinical value of plasma D-dimer/fibrinogen ratio (DFR) in patients hospitalized for heart failure (HF). Methods: Clinical data of 235 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis were used to identify significant prognosticators. Results: The Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that a higher DFR level was significantly associated with an increase in the end point outcomes, including HF readmission, thrombotic events and death (log-rank test: p < 0.001). The multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the high tertile of DFR was significantly associated with the study end points (HR: 2.18; 95% CI: 1.31-3.62; p = 0.003), compared with the low tertile. Conclusion: DFR is a reliable prognostic indicator for patients hospitalized for HF.

Abstract
Purpose Data about the prognostic value of fibrinogen concentration and absolute lymphocyte count for the prognosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) were limited. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the predictive value of preoperative fibrinogen concentration and absolute lymphocyte count in GISTs. Patients and Methods From March 2002 to December 2017, 143 intermediate and high risk GIST patients treated with R0 resection were enrolled in the present study. Clinicopathological characteristics were recorded. The optimal cut-off values of patients were calculated by X-tile software. Categorical variables were analyzed using Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Disease-free survival was analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by a Log rank test. Results There were 71 males (49.65%) and 72 females. The median age was 56 years (range 19-86). The optimal cut-off value was 4.5 g/L for fibrinogen concentration (P=0.000) and 1.0×109/L for lymphocyte count (P=0.002). No significant association was found between lymphocyte level and clinicopathological features. However, elevated fibrinogen level was correlated with tumor location, tumor size and NIH risk category. Tumor size, fibrinogen concentration and lymphocyte count were independent risk factors for the prognosis of patients according to the multivariate analysis. The prognosis of patients with high fibrinogen concentration or low lymphocyte count was significantly worse than that with low fibrinogen concentration or high lymphocyte count. Further, combination of fibrinogen concentration and lymphocyte count could increase the prognostic value for GIST patients. Conclusion Fibrinogen concentration and absolute lymphocyte count were independent prognostic factors for intermediate and high risk GIST patients. The combination of fibrinogen concentration and absolute lymphocyte count could further increase the predictive value for the prognosis of GIST patients.

Prognostic significance of preoperative plasma fibrinogen levels in primary gastrointestinal stromal tumours: a retrospective cohort study. Int J Clin Oncol 2020; 25:1506-1514. Abstract
BACKGROUND Improved prediction of prognosis for gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) has become increasingly important since the introduction of targeted therapy. Here, we aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of preoperative plasma fibrinogen (Fib) levels in patients with primary GISTs and to analyse their correlations with clinicopathological characteristics. METHODS A total of 201 previously untreated patients with primary GISTs who had undergone radical surgery at our institution between October 2004 and July 2018 were enrolled. The optimal cut-off value for Fib levels was calculated using time-dependent receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis. RFS, the primary endpoint, was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by the log-rank test. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were calculated. RESULTS High preoperative plasma Fib levels were detected as an independent adverse prognostic factor (p = 0.008, hazard ratio 3.136, 95% CI 1.356‒7.256). Furthermore, high preoperative plasma Fib levels also indicated a poor prognosis within the modified National Institutes of Health (mNIH) high-risk subgroup (p = 0.041). In addition, preoperative plasma Fib levels showed a positive correlation with several prognostic factors and even a linear relationship with tumour size (Spearman correlation coefficient [r] = 0.411, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that high preoperative plasma Fib levels may indicate a poor prognosis in patients with primary GISTs. As a cost-effective biomarker, preoperative assessment of plasma Fib levels may help to further risk stratify patients with mNIH high-risk GISTs and instruct the application of targeted therapy.

Abstract
Purpose Elevated plasma D-dimer levels were thought to be associated with decreasing survival in various cancers. The relationship between plasma D-dimer levels and clinicopathology and the optimal D-dimer cutoff as a prognostic predictor has not been determined in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of preoperative plasma D-dimer levels as a predictor of patient outcomes in UTUC following radical nephroureterectomy. Patients and Methods We retrospectively reviewed data for 232 patients. The D-dimer cutoff value was set at 0.36 mg/L, and we used the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox's proportional hazards regression models to analyze the association between D-dimer levels and oncological outcomes. Multivariate Cox regression was used to develop a nomogram, which we evaluated for accuracy using a receiver operating characteristic curve, calibration plot, and decision curve analysis. Results Plasma D-dimer levels ≥0.36 mg/L were significantly associated with advanced tumor status regarding size, location, hydronephrosis, tumor grade, lymph node involvement, grade, and stage (all p < 0.05). The Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that plasma D-dimer levels ≥0.36 mg/L predicted worse oncological outcomes vs levels <0.36 mg/L (all p < 0.001). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that elevated preoperative plasma D-dimer level was an independent predictor of recurrence-free survival (hazard ratio (HR): 1.67, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.07-2.63; p = 0.025), cancer-specific survival (HR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.30-4.19; p = 0.004), and overall survival (HR: 1.98, 95% CI: 1.18-3.34; p = 0.010). We also developed a nomogram predicting 3- and 5-year overall survival probability. Conclusion D-dimer levels may be a useful prognostic predictor of survival and improve risk stratification and precisely individualize treatment for patients with UTUC.

Abstract
Purpose The present study aimed to identify coagulation markers with prognostic value in the setting of surgically treated endometrial cancer. Patients and methods A total of 942 patients with endometrial cancer who underwent surgery were included in the study. The preoperative prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), thrombin time (TT), prothrombin time activity (PTA), fibrinogen and D-dimer values were analyzed to determine their potential associations with clinicopathological characteristics. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method, p-values were calculated using the log-rank text, and the prognostic factors were evaluated using Cox’s proportional hazards regression model. Results The preoperative plasma fibrinogen and D-dimer concentrations were significantly different among patients with different ages, pre/post-menopausal status, International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (FIGO) stage, tumor grade, depth of myometrial invasion, histological type and lymphatic vessel space invasion. Fibrinogen level was also asscoiated with body mass index (BMI) and comorbidities, and D-dimer level was asscoiated with preoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy. APTT was different in patients in pre/post-menopausal status and with or without comorbidities. PTA was asscoiated with BMI and lymphovascular invasion. TT was different between different age groups, different menopause status groups, as well as different FIGO stage groups. A multivariate analysis identified high fibrinogen levels (>3.25 g/L) as an independent prognostic factor for overall survival (HR=1.807; 95% CI=1.003–3.253; p=0.049). Conclusion High pretreatment fibrinogen levels are associated with poor overall survival and represent a valuable independent prognostic factor in patients with endometrial cancer. PT, aPTT, TT, PTA and D-dimer levels cannot be used as independent prognostic factors for endometrial cancer.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most malignant cancers with high morbidity and mortality. Nowadays, AFP-negative hepatocellular carcinoma (AFP-NHCC) has been found in many HCC patients and AFP analysis can't be used to screen HCC in these cases. In this study, we have examined the expression patterns of pre-albumin (PA), fibrinogen, D-Dimer and their clinical significance in AFP-NHCC. We recruited 214 AFP-NHCC patients and 210 controls in the study. PA, fibrinogen and D-Dimer levels were detected by turbidimetry, clauss and immunoturbidimetry methods, respectively. Serum PA levels were significantly lower in AFP-NHCC (84.5 ± 24.7 mg/L) than that in the controls (240.6 ± 59.4 mg/L, P < 0.05). For plasma fibrinogen levels, there was no difference between the controls (2.9 ± 0.7 g/L) and AFP-NHCC (2.5 ± 0.7 g/L). Compared with AFP-NHCC (0.8 ± 0.2 mg/L), plasma D-Dimer levels were significantly lower in controls (0.1 ± 0.0 mg/L, P < 0.05). The levels of PA, fibrinogen and D-Dimer were significantly correlated with differentiation (P < 0.01), and the PA and D-Dimer values were correlated with TNM stage (P < 0.05). Moreover, PA levels were correlated with tumor size (P = 0.034). Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analyses elaborated that combination of PA, fibrinogen and D-Dimer possessed a higher sensitivity (93.4%) for differentiating AFP-NHCC from the controls, but the diagnostic specificity was reduced due to the combination of fibrinogen. After adjusting for all significant outcome predictors of the univariate logistic regression analysis, low levels of PA and high levels of D-Dimer were remained independent unfavorable outcome predictors (P < 0.05). Our data suggested that the expression levels of PA, fibrinogen and D-Dimer played critical roles in AFP-NHCC tumorigenesis. Moreover, PA and D-Dimer might be considered as potential diagnostic indicators in AFP-NHCC.
