Abstract
In the present study, we aimed to demonstrate the objective guiding role of objective scatter index (OSI) in patients with early stage posterior capsule opacification (PCO), especially in patients with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. A prospective randomized case analysis was conducted on elderly patients experiencing PCO, exhibiting best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) below 0.2 LogMAR. Exclusion criteria comprised patients with diabetes, glaucoma, high myopia, trauma, endothelial dystrophy, maculopathy or prior eye surgery affecting visual acuity. The main observational indicators were patient gender, age, post-cataract surgery duration, BCVA (LogMAR), and OSI values. For patients undergoing laser posterior capsulotomy, meticulous documentation of pre-laser OSI values and post-laser OSI values was undertaken. Subjective visual quality was then compared using the Chinese version visual function index-14 (VF-14-CN). The study comprised 65 eyes from 56 patients. PCO developed, on average, 2.06 ± 0.94 years (ranging from 0.5 to 4 years) after the initial surgery, with the OSI consistently exceeding 3.0. Among these cases, only 40 eyes underwent laser posterior capsulotomy using Nd:YAG laser, including 26 eyes implanted with monofocal IOLs and 14 eyes implanted with multifocal IOLs. Following laser posterior capsulotomy for early-stage secondary cataracts, there was a significant decrease in OSI values compared to the presurgery state, coupled with a notable increase in VF-14-CN scores. Among the 14 cases with multifocal IOL implantation, pre-laser VF-14-CN scores were lower compared to those with monofocal IOLs. Post-laser posterior capsulotomy, patients reported a marked improvement in self-perceived symptoms. The OQAS functioned as an objective assessment metric for the laser treatment of early stage PCO. In cases involving multifocal IOL implantation, the visual disturbance caused by PCO was more pronounced, underscoring the significance of OSI as a valuable guide for laser treatment in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Addressing presbyopia in the aging population, particularly in non-cataractous patients, remains a challenge. This study evaluates the outcomes of refractive lens exchange (RLE) with AT LISA tri 839MP trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in a Chinese presbyopic population without cataracts. METHODS The study included 164 eyes from 82 patients undergoing bilateral RLE at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Comprehensive evaluations encompassed visual acuities, refraction, ocular aberrometry, and subjective outcomes via the VF-14 questionnaire. The focus was on postoperative visual performance, refractive outcomes, safety, objective optical quality, and patient satisfaction. RESULTS 100%, 90.2%, and 89.0% of patients achieved binocular UDVA, UNVA, and UIVA of logMAR 0.1 or better at 6 months postoperatively. 97.6% of eyes were within ± 1.00 D of emmetropia postoperatively. Optical quality assessments showed increases in modulation transfer function and Strehl ratios (p < 0.05). High-order aberrations decreased significantly (p < 0.05). Despite the high incidence of posterior capsule opacification (83.2%), managed with early Nd: YAG capsulotomy, no other severe complications were reported. Patient-reported outcomes indicated high satisfaction, with an average VF-14 score of 94.3 ± 10.2 and 93.5% achieving complete spectacle independence. Halo (66.2%) was the most commonly reported optical phenomena, followed by glare (18.2%), and starburst (7.8%) after surgery. CONCLUSIONS Bilateral RLE with trifocal IOLs in presbyopic patients without cataracts significantly improves visual acuity and reduces ocular aberrations in presbyopic patients. The procedure offers high patient satisfaction and spectacle independence, though it requires careful patient selection and management of expectations regarding potential photic phenomena.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the efficacy and safety of various intraocular lenses (IOLs), including standard monofocal, bifocal, trifocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF), and enhanced monofocal IOLs, post-cataract surgery through a network meta-analysis. METHODS A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science was conducted to identify relevant studies from the past 5 years. Parameters such as binocular visual acuities, spectacle independence, contrast sensitivity (CS), and optical quality were used to evaluate efficacy and safety. Data from the selected studies were analyzed using Review Manager 5.4 and STATA 17.0 software. RESULTS Twenty-eight Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) comprising 2465 subjects were included. Trifocal IOLs exhibited superior uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) compared to monofocal IOLs (MD: -0.35; 95% CI: -0.48, -0.22). Both trifocal (AcrySof IQ PanOptix IOLs group MD: -0.13; 95% CI: -0.21, -0.06) and EDOF IOLs (MD: -0.13; 95% CI: -0.17, -0.09) showed better uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) than monofocal IOLs. Trifocal IOLs ranked highest in spectacle independence at various distances (AT LISAtri 839MP group: SUCRA 97.5% for distance, 80.7% for intermediate; AcrySof IQ PanOptix group: SUCRA 83.0% for near). CONCLUSIONS For cataract patients who want to treat presbyopia, trifocal IOLs demonstrated better visual acuity and spectacle independence at near distances. Different types of trifocal IOL characteristics differ. EDOF and enhanced monofocal IOLs have improved visual quality at intermediate distances.Therefore, It is very important to select the appropriate IOLs based on the lens characteristics and patient needs.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Posterior capsular opacification (PCO) is the most common long-term complication of successful cataract surgery and can cause visual impairment. We aimed to investigate the effects of intraocular lens (IOL) characteristics on PCO by comparing the incidence of neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy for different types of intraocular lenses. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 2866 eyes that underwent cataract surgery between January 2010 and December 2017, with at least 5 years of follow-up. The IOLs used for surgery were the hydrophobic lenses SN60WF (Alcon, Fort Worth, TX, USA), ZCB00 (Johnson & Johnson Vision, Santa Ana, CA, USA), and MX60 (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY, USA), and the hydrophilic lens MI60 (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY, USA). We analyzed the incidence of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy according to the type of IOL used. Results: The incidence of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy was significantly higher with MI60 lenses (31.70%, 175/552 eyes) compared to SN60WF (7.90%, 113/1431 eyes), ZCB00 (10.06%, 64/636 eyes), and MX60 (10.57%, 13/123 eyes; p < 0.001) lenses. The incidence of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy was significantly lower with the hydrophobic IOLs (8.68%, 190/2190 eyes) than with the hydrophilic IOL (31.70%, 175/552 eyes; p < 0.001). Over time, the rate of increase in the cumulative number of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy cases was the highest with MI60. The cumulative rate of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy during the first 3 years was 4.90% with SN60WF (70/1431 eyes), 6.76% with ZCB00 (43/636 eyes), 8.94% with MX60 (11/123 eyes), and 26.10% with MI60 (144/552 eyes) lenses. Conclusions: The incidence of PCO is influenced by the material of the IOLs. The hydrophilic IOL was associated with a higher rate of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy than the hydrophobic IOLs, with a shorter time to Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy.

Abstract
We demonstrate a new type of multifocal and extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs) embedding μm-thin geometric phase (GP) lens layers. As an emerging approach for lens phase design, the GP modulated IOLs outperform conventional diffractive IOLs in multifocality while completely avoiding the clinically undesirable demand for additional surface patterns to standard monofocal IOL designs. The number of foci and light splitting ratio of the GP IOLs are adjusted by changing the number of stacked GP layers and the thickness of each layer. Bifocal and trifocal GP IOLs are fabricated by radial alignment of anisotropic orientation in UV-curable liquid crystal polymers. After characterizing the defocus image and modulation transfer function of the GP IOLs, it is expected that GP IOLs will alleviate the most common problems associated with multifocal and EDOF IOLs, blurred vision and photic phenomena caused by light scattering and posterior capsule opacification.

Abstract
We aimed to determine the timing of neodymium:yttrium–aluminum–garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy on corrected-distance visual acuity (CDVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), and spherical equivalent (SE) in patients with posterior capsular opacification (PCO). There were 59 patients with unilateral PCO and a history of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy enrolled and further divided into the early Nd:YAG group (timing < 12 months, n = 25) and late Nd:YAG group (timing > 12 months, n = 34) depending on the elapsed months from phacoemulsification to Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy. The primary outcomes were CDVA, IOP, and SE before (immediately before Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy) and after (weeks one and four after the laser treatment). The independent t test was applied to analyze the difference in CDVA, IOP, and SE between the two groups, while the generalized estimating equation with Bonferroni adjustment was conducted to evaluate the effect of all the parameters on the change in SE with adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). The CDVA showed significant improvement in both the early Nd:YAG group (p = 0.005) and the late Nd:YAG group (p = 0.001), and hyperopic change occurred in both the early Nd:YAG group (p = 0.003) and the late Nd:YAG group (p = 0.017). The early Nd:YAG group revealed more significant hyperopic change compared with the late Nd:YAG group four weeks after Nd:YAG treatment (p < 0.001), which was still significant after multivariable analysis (aOR: 0.899, 95% CI: 0.868–0.930, p = 0.011). In addition, a deeper ACD (aOR: 0.764, 95% CI: 0.671–0.869, p = 0.019) was significantly correlated with hyperopic change. In conclusion, Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy performed within one year after cataract surgery may lead to significant hyperopic change, in which the ACD alteration affects the hyperopic shift significantly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diffractive intraocular lenses (IOLs) could affect visual acuity in patients with macular pathologies such as epiretinal membrane (ERM) and could influence the results of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for ERM removal in pseudophakic eyes with these IOLs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect on visual outcomes of a diffractive trifocal IOL in PPV for ERM peeling. METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study on 20 eyes with a single model of trifocal IOL that underwent PPV for removal of ERM between January 2015 and September 2018 in our clinics. Follow up was at least 1 year. Primary outcome measure was mean change in visual acuity. Secondary outcome measures were mean change in central macular thickness (CMT), recovery of the external retinal layers, and change in spherical equivalent (SE). RESULTS Mean corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 0.03 ± 0.03 logMAR after phacoemulsification; this worsened to 0.23 ± 0.10 logMAR with ERM, improving to 0.10 ± 0.04 log MAR 12 months after PPV (p = 0.001). Mean uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) was Jaeger 2.62 ± 0.51 after lensectomy. This worsened to Jaeger 5.46 ± 1.67 with ERM and improved to the initial Jaeger 2.69 ± 0.84 after PPV (p = 0.005). CMT decreased significantly, from 380.15 ± 60.50 μm with the ERM to 313.70 ± 36.98 μm after PPV. Mean SE after lensectomy was - 0.18 ± 0.38 D, which minimally changed to - 0.18 ± 0.47 D after PPV (p = 0.99). The only complication recorded after PPV was a case of cystoid macular edema. No difficulties in visualization due to IOL design were reported during PPV. CONCLUSION PPV for ERM in eyes with this trifocal IOL seems to be safe and effective, and allows recovery of the loss of UNVA.

Abstract
We aimed to survey whether the timing of neodymium:yttrium–aluminum–garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy would alter the corneal endothelial morphology and density. A retrospective cohort study was conducted, and 48 patients with unilateral posterior capsular opacity (PCO) and Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy performance were enrolled. The participants were divided into the early Nd:YAG group (timing ≤ 12 months, n = 20) and late Nd:YAG group (timing > 12 months, n= 28) depending on elapsed months between phacoemulsification and Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy. Endothelial cell density (ECD), coefficient of variant (CV), hexagonality (HEX), and central corneal thickness (CCT) between the two groups were collected. A generalized estimate equation was conducted to evaluate the corneal endothelial parameters between the two groups with an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). The CDVA was improved after treatment in both groups (both p < 0.001). Chronically, ECD in the early group was significantly decreased one week after treatment (2221.50 ± 327.73/mm2 vs. 2441.55 ± 321.80/mm2, p < 0.001), which recovered to 2369.95 ± 76.37/mm2 four weeks after the treatment but was still lower than the preoperative status (p < 0.001). In addition, the HEX percentage showed a significant reduction at four weeks after treatment (p = 0.028). The ECD in the early group was significantly lower than that in the late group (aOR: 0.167, 95% CI: 0.079–0.356, p = 0.003) in both week 1 (p < 0.001) and week 4 (p = 0.004) after laser treatment. In conclusion, the early application of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy within one year after cataract surgery may be the reason for postoperative ECD decrement without known etiology.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the incidence of Nd:YAG capsulotomy after implantation of two types of multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOLs). Methods This retrospective analysis included patients who had undergone cataract extraction and implanted diffractive MIOL (Acri. LISA tri 839M) or asymmetric refractive MIOL (SBL-3) from May 2016 to September 2018. They were followed up for at least 3 years. During the follow-up period, the relevant data of patients were kept by special person in the hospital. The rates of Nd:YAG capsulotomy and the Kaplan-Meier survival curve were used to analyze the two groups. Results The Asymmetric Refractive MIOL group was comprised of 98 patients (121 eyes), while the Diffractive MIOL group was comprised of 99 patients (120 eyes). There were no significant differences in age, sex, or IOL power between the two groups. The Nd:YAG rate of the asymmetric refractive MIOL group and the diffractive MIOL group was 3.3% and 7.5% respectively (P = 0.15) in the first year, 14.88% and 22.5% respectively (P = 0.129) in the second year, and 21.49% and 34.17% respectively (P = 0.028) in the third year. In the first 7 months of follow-up, the two groups showed the same performance in the Nd:YAG rate. After that, there was a difference between the two groups, and the difference gradually increased. Until the 27th month of follow-up, the difference was significant (P < 0.05). What is more, there were significant differences in survival (without Nd:YAG capsulotomy)/failure (with Nd:YAG capsulotomy) functions (P = 0.0035). Conclusion The incidence of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy in patients with diffractive MIOLs was higher than that in patients with asymmetric refractive MIOLs.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes of trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in eyes previously treated with myopic and hyperopic corneal refractive laser surgery. SETTING Clinica Baviera-AIER-Eye group, Spain. DESIGN Retrospective comparative case series. METHODS The series was divided into 2 groups according to the type of corneal laser refraction (myopic and hyperopic). The main visual and refractive outcome measures included corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and uncorrected distance and near visual acuity, safety, efficacy, and predictability. The secondary outcome measures were percentage of enhancement and Nd:YAG capsulotomy and influence of prelaser magnitude of myopia and hyperopia on the outcome of trifocal IOL implantation. RESULTS The sample comprised 868 eyes (543 patients): myopic, n = 319 eyes (36.7%); and hyperopic, n = 549 eyes (63.2%). Three months postoperatively, visual outcomes were poorer in the hyperopic group than those in the myopic group for mean CDVA (0.06 ± 0.05 vs 0.04 ± 0.04, P < .01) and safety (21% vs 12% of CDVA line loss, P < .05) outcomes. However, precision outcomes were worse in the myopic group than those in the hyperopic group, with a mean spherical equivalent of -0.38 ± 0.3 vs -0.17 ± 0.3 (P < .01). Stratification by magnitude of primary laser treatment revealed poorer visual and safety results in the high hyperopia subgroup (>+3.0 diopters [D]) and poorer precision in the high myopia subgroup (<-5.0 D). CONCLUSIONS Trifocal IOL implantation after photorefractive surgery in eyes previously treated with myopic ablation achieved good visual outcomes but less predictability in the high myopia subgroup. However, eyes with a previous hyperopic corneal ablation achieved excellent precision but worse visual and safety outcomes in the high hyperopia subgroup.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the degree of posterior capsular opacification (PCO) and its influence on contrast sensitivity defocus curve (CSDC) after implantation of two trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), Alsafit (AT) and Liberty (L), during a 12-month follow-up. A secondary aim was to evaluate the Nd:YAG capsulotomy rate in a long time. METHODS Data from 63 subjects, 34 implanted with AT and 29 with L, were retrospectively analyzed for this pilot study. In those eyes without capsulotomy during the first year (n = 58), CSDC at 3 and 12 months after surgery and PCO grading were measured, with additional answering of a visual function questionnaire (VF-14) and a question of general satisfaction. The period after surgery up to capsulotomy or last on-demand visit without Nd:YAG was recorded for survival analysis beyond the 12-month follow-up. RESULTS Total area under CSDC (TAUC) between 3 and 12 months decreased from 2.96 to 1.71 for AT (p < 0.05) and from 2.73 to 2.21 (p > 0.05) for L. Of eyes, 51.6, 19.3, and 29% with AT were graded as level 0, 1, and 2 of PCO, while 85.1, 11.1, and 3.7% of eyes with L were graded as level 0, 1, and 2 (p < 0.05). PCO grading was correlated with a decrease of TAUC (ρ = - 0.27, p = 0.04). Median time to require capsulotomy was 22 months with AT and 30 months with L (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS PCO decreases CSDC in patients with trifocal lenses. Despite using the same hydrophilic material, PCO grading and Nd:YAG capsulotomy rate was higher for AT than for L.

Abstract
(1) Background: To evaluate the efficacy at 6 years postoperative after the implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) AT Lisa Tri 839MP. The secondary objective was to evaluate the contrast sensitivity defocus curve (CSDC), light distortion analysis (LDA), and patient reported outcomes (PROs). (2) Methods: Sixty-two subjects participated in phone call interviews to collect data regarding a visual function questionnaire (VF-14), a patient reported spectacle independence questionnaire (PRSIQ), and questions related to satisfaction and decision to be implanted with the same IOL. Thirty-seven of these subjects were consecutively invited to a study visit for measurement of their visual acuity (VA), CSDC, and LDA. (3) Results: The mean monocular distance corrected VA was −0.05, 0.08, and 0.05 logMAR at far and distances of 67 cm and 40 cm, respectively. These VAs were significantly superior to those reported in previous literature (p < 0.05). The total area under the CSDC was 2.29 logCS/m−1 and the light distortion index 18.82%. The mean VF-14 score was 94.73, with 19.4% of subjects requiring spectacles occasionally for near distances, and 88.9% considering the decision of being operated again; (4) Conclusions: Long-term AT LISA Tri 839MP IOL efficacy results were equal or better than those reported 12 months postoperatively in previous studies. The spectacle independence and satisfaction rates were comparable to those reported in short-term studies.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the functional and refractive outcomes in hyperopia and presbyopia correction by clear lens exchange with the intraocular trifocal artificial lens (IOL) Acrysof IQ Panoptix implant at 1 year. MATERIALS AND METHODS A number of 128 eyes (64 patients) underwent clear lens exchange with placement of the trifocal IOL Acrysof IQ Panoptix implant for hyperopia and presbyopia. Prior to the surgery the patients had a complete ocular examination. In all cases the artificial lens was implanted in the bag without any intraoperative complications. Visual acuity (VA) at distance, intermediate and near and ocular refraction were evaluated at 4 weeks, 6 and 12 months postoperatively. RESULTS The mean age was 53.49 ±7.377 years old (range 40-73 years). As high as 51.57% of the patients were males and 48.43% were females. The mean achieved refraction was 0.26 ± 0.73D. Almost 60.93% of patients were within ±0.25D of the target refraction, with 82.03% eyes within ±0.50D of the planned correction. At 1 year after surgery, 96.45% of eyes had a stable refraction (p >0.05). At 1 year, a total of 92.25%, 89.92% and 91.47% achieved a monocular uncorrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuity of 0.2 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution or better, respectively. At the same time point, a total of 95.35%, 91.47% and 93.80% achieved a binocular uncorrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuity of 0.2 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution or better, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between the postoperative uncorrected and best corrected VA (distance, intermediate, near) at 6 months and postoperative uncorrected and best corrected VA (distance, intermediate, near) at 12 months. None of our patients had any intraoperative complications. Two cases (1.56%) developed posterior capsule opacification. Twelve patients (18.75%) complained about photic phenomena such as glare and haloes, but this symptom disappeared after 6 months postoperatively. As high as93.56% of patients had a high satisfaction with the outcomes of the surgery. Spectacle independence was obtained in 97.65% eyes. CONCLUSION The Acrysof Panoptix trifocal artificial lens offers a good vision at distance, intermediate and near, with a good quality of vision and refraction.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Presbyopia is the progressive and irreversible loss of accommodation due to aging. It is one of the main causes of loss of quality of life in people from 45 years of age, due to the, often novel, dependence on spectacles. The eagerness to correct it by ophthalmologists impulsed by the desire of millions of people who suffer from it, has become one of the main drivers for the development of intraocular lens (IOL) technology over the last twenty years. MATERIAL AND METHODS This review briefly presents the different alternatives that have allowed us to improve the crystalline lens surgical approach of presbyopia; from monofocal lenses and monovision technique, accommodative, refractive, and diffractive multifocal lenses, and finally the most recent extended depth of focus/field lenses known as EDOFs. RESULTS Each IOL has its advantages, limitations and disadvantages. Furthermore, there is no single lens that suits the needs of all patients. CONCLUSIONS It is necessary to know the variety of lenses available, and to have an in-depth understanding of their optical properties, as well as the impact that these will have later on their clinical performance and on the visual quality of the patients. This should help us to select the best alternative for each of them.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the clinical outcomes following bilateral implantation of PanOptix intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS This study included consecutive patients scheduled to undergo cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery between October 2017 and June 2018 at two centers. Manifest refraction, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA, 60 cm) and uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA, 40 cm), defocus curves, presence of dysphotopsia, need for spectacles, presence of posterior capsule opacification and visual function were evaluated at 6 months after surgery. RESULTS The IOL was implanted in 138 eyes of 69 patients. The mean binocular UDVA was 0.02 ± 0.05 logMAR, UIVA 0.06 ± 0.07 logMAR and UNVA 0.05 ± 0.07 logMAR. Defocus curve showed two peaks at 0.00 D and - 1.50 D. Complete spectacle independence was reported in 94.2% of the patients. The mean VF-14 test result was 97.7 ± 2.2 (93.2-100). Only one patient (1.4%) reported seeing bothersome halos. The presence of posterior capsule opacification was noted in seven eyes (10%), whereas Nd:Yag capsulotomy was required only in one eye. CONCLUSIONS This trifocal IOL provided excellent visual outcomes at all distances with high spectacle independence and patient's satisfaction.

Abstract
AcrySof IQ PanOptix Model TFNT00 (Alcon Laboratories, Fort Worth, TX) is a 1-piece aspheric hydrophobic presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens (IOL) launched in 2015. Unlike traditional trifocal IOLs that usually have an intermediate focal point of 80 cm, the PanOptix IOL is designed to have an intermediate focal point of 60 cm (arms-length), a more natural and comfortable working distance to perform functional tasks on computers, laptops, mobiles, among others. The non-apodized PanOptix IOL uses the ENhanced LIGHT ENergy (ENLIGHTEN; Alcon Laboratories, Fort Worth, TX) optical technology that provides high (88%) utilization of light energy, low dependence on pupil size in all lighting conditions, and a more comfortable near-to-intermediate range of vision than traditional trifocal IOLs. This review provides an overview of the clinical performance of the PanOptix IOL and discusses it in the context of other commercially available trifocal IOLs, FineVision Micro F (PhysIOL, Liege, Belgium), the AT LISA tri 839MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) and the extended depth of focus IOL, TECNIS Symfony (Abbott Medical Optics, Santa Ana, CA). A literature search was performed in the PubMed database to identify studies that have assessed the visual and other clinical outcomes with the PanOptix IOL. In total, 12 studies were included in this review article. Overall, the clinical evidence suggests that in general good visual outcomes, along with a high degree of spectacle independence, are achieved in patients implanted with the PanOptix, FineVision, AT LISA and Symfony IOLs. However, every MIOL has its benefits and limitations, which along with patient's needs and clinical conditions are important factors to consider while selecting an IOL to achieve best possible post-operative outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate visual outcomes, spectacle independence, and patient satisfaction after trifocal intraocular lens implantation. METHODS A retrospective study conducted on 5,186 patients who underwent phacoemulsification and were implanted with a diffractive trifocal intraocular lens (FineVision Micro F, PhysIOL SA, Liège, Belgium). RESULTS The mean pre-operative keratometry was 43.61±1.55 D, and mean keratometric cylinder was -0.86±0.66 D. At 3 months post-operatively, values changed to 43.59±1.56 and -0.71±0.46 D, respectively. Mean sphere varied from 2.04±2.60 to 0.14±0.38 D, and mean spherical equivalent from 1.64±2.61 to -0.05±0.36 D. More than 60% of the patients achieved better corrected distance visual acuity. The majority had a final residual refractive error (predictability) lower than 1 D (99.1%), with 14.3% needing optical adjustment (bioptics). Posterior capsulotomy was performed in 2.2%, and the lens was replaced in 5 patients. A high percentage of patients were satisfied in terms of vision and spectacle independence at all distances. Although 2% referred to worsening of night vision quality, only 2% were not very satisfied and 20 patients were dissatisfied. The causes were: blurred vision (7 cases), spectacle dependence (10), dysphotopsia (7), and dry eye (4). CONCLUSIONS The implantation of this model provided good visual performance in all distances, as well as high levels of spectacle independence and satisfaction.

Abstract
Presbyopia results from loss or insufficiency of the eye's accommodative ability, and clinically manifests as the inability to focus near objects on the retina. It is one of the most common causes of visual impairment worldwide especially in adults of productive or working age. Various means of compensating for the loss of accommodative ability have been devised from optical tools such as spectacles and contact lenses, to topical medications and to surgical procedures. A comprehensive search on journal articles about topical and surgical correction of presbyopia was undertaken. The various techniques for presbyopia correction, as enumerated in these articles, are discussed in this paper with the addition of our personal experience and perspective on the future of these techniques.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate refractive and visual acuity outcomes, patient satisfaction, and spectacle independence at 3 months of 2 diffractive (non-toric) trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in a large series of patients. DESIGN Multicenter, retrospective, nonrandomized clinical study. METHODS Patients underwent lens phacoemulsification and were implanted bilaterally with a diffractive trifocal IOL: FineVision Micro F (PhysIOL SA, Liège, Belgium) or AT Lisa tri 839MP (Carl Zeiss AG, Jena, Germany). Surgeries were performed between 2011 and 2015 with at least 3 months of follow-up. Visual and refractive performance, patient satisfaction, and spectacle independence were evaluated. RESULTS A total of 10 084 trifocal IOLs were bilaterally implanted (5802 FineVision in 2901 patients and 4282 AT Lisa in 2141 patients). Three-month mean (± standard deviation) acuity: AT Lisa, binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), -0.01 logMAR ± 0.06; monocular distance corrected visual acuity (CDVA), 0.02 logMAR ± 0.06; binocular uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) at 40 cm, 0.05 logMAR ± 0.08; binocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) at 80 cm, -0.05 logMAR ± 0.14; postoperative spherical equivalent, 0.26 D ± 0.47; cylinder -0.34 D ± 0.38; FineVision Micro F, binocular UDVA, 0.01 logMAR ± 0.05; monocular CDVA, 0.03 logMAR ± 0.06; binocular UNVA, 0.05 logMAR ± 0.08; binocular UIVA, -0.05 logMAR ± 0.12; spherical equivalent, 0.34 D ± 0.50; cylinder -0.39 D ± 0.40. The IOLs were equivalent in achieving spectacle independence; 98% were "satisfied" to "very satisfied" with their IOL performance. CONCLUSIONS In this retrospective study with over 5000 patients, implantation of both trifocal IOL models provided good functional distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity, resulting in high levels of both spectacle independence and patient satisfaction.
