Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the fracture resistance and failure modalities of anterior endocrown restorations fabricated employing diverse ceramic materials, and bonded using various cementation methodologies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty maxillary central incisors were divided into two main groups based on the ceramic materials used; GroupI (Zir): zirconia endocrwons (Zolid HT+, Ceramill, Amanngirrbach) and GroupII (E-Max): e-max endocrowns (IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent). Both groups were further split into two subgroups depending on the cementation protocols; subgroup IA "ZirMDP": endocowns cemented with MDP primer + MDP resin cement, subgroup IB (ZirNon-MDP): cemented with MDP primer + non-MDP resin cement, subgroup IIA (E-maxMDP): cemented with MDP primer + MDP resin cement, subgroup IIB (E-maxNon-MDP): cemented with MDP primer + non-MDP resin cement. (n = 10/subgroup). Endocrowns were manufactured using CAD/ CAM. Teeth were subjected to 10,000 thermal cycles. The fracture test was performed at 45o with a palatal force direction until the fracture occurred. Test results were recorded in Newton. The failure mode was examined using a stereomicroscope. A One-way ANOVA test was utilized to compare different groups regarding fracture strength values. Tukey`s Post Hoc was utilized for multiple comparisons. RESULTS The comparative analysis of fracture strength across the diverse groups yielded non-significant differences, as indicated by a p-value exceeding 0.05. Nonetheless, an observable trend emerged regarding the mode of failure. Specifically, a statistically significant prevalence was noted in fractures localized within the endocrown/tooth complex below the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) across all groups, except for Group IIB, "E-max Non-MDP," where fractures within the endocrown/tooth complex occurred above the CEJ. CONCLUSIONS Combining an MDP-based primer with an MDP-based resin cement did not result in a significant effect on the anterior endocrown fracture strength. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Regardless of the presence of the MDP monomer in its composition, adhesive resin cement achieved highly successful fracture strength when used with MDP-based ceramic primers. Additionally, ceramic materials exhibiting elastic moduli surpassing those of dentin are discouraged due to their propensity to induce catastrophic fractures within the tooth structure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the fracture strength and linear elongation at break of three-units fixed partial dentures (FPDs) fabricated with traditional and new materials for fixed prosthodontics before and after ageing. METHODS Sixty models of three-units FPDs were fabricated and cemented onto a Co-Cr model simulating the replacement of a maxillary second premolar. The samples were randomly divided into 3 groups: metal-ceramic (MCR), graphene-doped polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA-GR) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). Half of the samples were directly subjected to fracture test, while the remaining half underwent an ageing process and then a fracture loading test using an electrodynamic testing machine. Fracture load and elongation at break values were taken and statistically analysed. RESULTS Significant differences were detected between the different materials (p<0.05). All groups showed a reduction of the fracture load and elongation at break values after ageing, but not statistically significant, except for PMMA group (p = 2.012e-19) (p = 3.8e-11). CONCLUSIONS MCR and PMMA-GR three-units FPDs showed higher fracture strength and lower elongation at break compared to PMMA. MCR and PMMA-GR had higher resistance to ageing processes compared to PMMA. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE PMMA-GR could be considered a material for long-term provisional restorations as its mechanical behaviour and ageing resistance are more like MCR than PMMA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insufficient research has been conducted in the literature assessing the performance of zirconia and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) crowns in relation to the essential requirements of successful restorations, such as fracture resistance or margin adaptation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the coping materials zirconia or PEEK with different fabrication techniques on the vertical marginal gap and fracture resistance of posterior crowns with composite veneering. METHODS Ceramic copings (n = 18) restoring mandibular first molar were fabricated from zirconia (Zircon.x, Presidentdental, Germany), milled PEEK (PEEK CAD) (breCAM.BioHPP, Bredent, Germany) and pressed PEEK (PEEK Press) (BioHPP Granules, Bredent, Germany) six specimens each (n = 6). The copings were veneered with high impact polymer composite (HIPC) material (breCAM.HIPC, Bredent, Germany). The vertical marginal gap was captured under a magnification of 40X. Five equidistant marks on each surface of the die distinguished the points of measurement for a total of 20 readings per sample. The analysis was completed using an image analysis system (ImageJ 1.53t, National Institute of Health, USA). The specimens were loaded to failure at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min and the load at failure was recorded to measure the fracture resistance. RESULTS The marginal gap was analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test. Fracture resistance was analyzed using Welch one-way ANOVA followed by the Games-Howell post hoc test. Marginal gap values showed a significant difference between the tested groups, with zirconia having significantly lower gap values (48.67 ± 11.98 µm) than both the PEEK CAD (108.00 ± 20.08 µm) and Press groups (108.00 ± 25.10 µm) (p < 0.001). However, the results of fracture resistance showed no significant difference (p = 0.06) with 1687.47 ± 253.29 N, 2156.82 ± 407.64 N, 2436.72 ± 725.93 N for zirconia, PEEK CAD, and Press, respectively. The significance level was p < 0.05. CONCLUSIONS Zirconia framework crowns have a smaller vertical marginal gap than milled and pressed PEEK crowns. Crowns fabricated from zirconia, PEEK CAD, or PEEK Press frameworks and veneered with composite resin have comparable fracture resistance lower than the maximum biting force in the posterior region. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Posterior crowns with zirconia frameworks are preferred over milled and pressed PEEK frameworks regarding margin adaptation, although all can safely survive the maximum occlusal forces without fracture.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to assess the pull-out bond strength (PBS) of endodontically treated anterior teeth that had been restored with monolithic zirconia endocrowns using different extension depths (EDs) and post-and-core crowns after chewing simulation. METHODS Thirty-six maxillary central teeth were used (n = 12). Group I: Glass fiber post-and-core crown, Group II: Endocrown with 3-mm EDs, Group III: Endocrown with 5-mm EDs. Restorations were fabricated from monolithic zirconia blocks using a CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) device. For cementation, conventional resin luting agent (Multilink N) was used. All samples were aged with a chewing simulator and PBS tests were conducted at a speed of 1 mm/min using an electromechanical servo universal testing machine. The values were recorded in MPa by dividing the failure load by the bonding area. One-way ANOVA and the post-hoc Tukey test were used for statistical analysis (P = 0.05). RESULTS Group III demonstrated significantly greater PBS values than Groups I and II (P = 0.001). No significant difference was found between Groups I and II (P = 0.072). CONCLUSION Increasing the ED of an endocrown influences the PBS of endodontically treated anterior teeth restored with monolithic zirconia endocrowns.

Abstract
This study aims to characterize the effect of pre- and/or post-sintering pigmentation techniques on the fatigue behavior of a 4YSZ ceramic (4 mol% yttrium stabilized zirconia). First, 4YSZ ceramic discs (IPS e.max ZirCAD, 15 mm diameter, and 1.2 mm thickness) were obtained and allocated according to the 'pigmentation technique' factor into 5 groups: Ctrl - unshaded ceramic disc (IPS e.max ZirCAD BL); Manuf - ceramic discs shaded by the manufacturer at block formation (IPS e.max ZirCAD MT A2); Brush - unshaded ceramic disc pigmented in the pre-sintered stage using a brush; Stain - unshaded ceramic disc pigmented in the post-sintering stage using a stain glaze (shade A2); Brush + Stain - combination of Brush and Stain techniques. The specimens were sintered and analyzed by a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade) for color differences (ΔE00 calculated according to CIEDE, 2000) to ensure that they present the same perceived color (ΔE00 ≤ 1.77, acceptability threshold). The specimens (n = 15) were submitted to biaxial flexural fatigue testing using a cyclic fatigue method (frequency of 20 Hz; 10,000 cycles per step; initial stress of 200 MPa; and step-size of 25 MPa) until specimen fracture. Fatigue strength (FS) and number of cycles until failure (CFF) were recorded with statistical purposes. Fractographic, complementary topography, elemental and roughness analyses were performed. The Ctrl shown the highest FS, CFF, and survival rates compared to the other conditions (p < 0.05), being only statistically similar to Brush. Stain showed the lowest FS, CFF and survival rates (p < 0.05). The Manuf and Brush + Stain shown intermediary performance. In regards of Weibull moduli, Brush shown the lowest values (lowest structural reliability), for both FS and CFF, being only statistically similar to Manuf. Topography analysis shown a uniform size of zirconia crystals in Ctrl, Manuf and Brush. In addition, a smooth glassy surface with some spots of impregnated pigment was observed in the groups where glaze was applied (Stain and Brush + Stain). This finding was corroborated by elemental analysis. Despite that, Stain and Brush + Stain presented the roughest surface (p < 0.05). In summary, the pigmentation techniques used to provide a Vita classical A2 color shade have a detrimental effect on the mechanical fatigue properties of a 4YSZ ceramic, except for the technique performed with the brush in the block pre-sintering stage. Despite this, the brush technique presents great variability in mechanical performance, resulting in lower structural reliability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to analyze the color infiltration in monolithic zirconia after grinding, which plays an essential role in the color stability of restorations after occlusal adjustment. METHODS One hundred and eight white zirconia plates (36 Dentsply Sirona-Cercon high translucency [C], 36 Zirkonzahn-Prettau [P], 36 Zirkonzahn-Prettau anterior [Pa]) were stained by infiltration with target colors Vita A2, A3.5, and A4. In a standardized experimental setup, all plates were grinded in nine successive steps (from baseline to 500 μm), and color was measured with a spectroradiometer at each grinding step. Color differences ΔE00 between initial color and after each grinding step were calculated. The data was analyzed using regression, Kruskal-Wallis test, inverse prediction, and simultaneous 95%-confidence intervals. RESULTS Grinding had a significant effect on color stability across all zirconia types and target colors (p < 0.001). At each cut level and target color, ΔE00 means for groups C, P, and Pa were statistically different (p < 0.05). Among the three zirconia types, Pa had the lowest ΔE00 mean score for cut levels 20-100 μm for A2 and between 50 and 300 μm for A3.5 and A4. For all other cut levels, differences between Pa and P were not significant (α = 0.05). C had the largest mean ΔE00 except for A4 until 100 μm, where it was second best. CONCLUSION Zirconia type had a significant effect on the color infiltration depth across all target colors. Pa showed the best color stability until 150 μm material reduction, whereas C presented significantly less color stability than the other two zirconia materials. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Color stability is important for minimizing the risk of restoration failure due to unacceptable color changes after grinding. Pa is less susceptible to color change and has an additional buffer of 60 μm until exceeding the color acceptability threshold. When higher flexural strength is needed, P is to be preferred.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the load to fracture of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) 3-unit posterior fixed partial denture (FPD) frameworks manufactured by conventional and digital techniques and to evaluate the influence of the framework design on the fracture load. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighty 3-unit Co-Cr posterior FPD frameworks were fabricated with two designs: intermediate pontic (n = 40) and cantilever (n = 40). Each design was randomly divided into four groups (n = 10): casting, direct metal laser sintering, soft metal milling, and hard metal milling. After thermal cycling, all specimens were subjected to a 3-point bending test until fracture. Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Welch and Brown-Forsythe test, Ryan-Einot-Gabriel-Welsch F and Tamhane T2 post hoc test, Student's t test, and Weibull statistics (α = 0.05). RESULTS Significant differences (p < 0.001; F = 39.59) were found among intermediate pontic frameworks (except between laser sintering and hard metal milling), and cantilevered frameworks (F = 36.75) (except between laser sintering and hard metal milling, and casting and soft metal milling). The cantilever groups showed load to fracture values significantly lower than those of the intermediate pontic (p < 0.001; F = 28.29). The Weibull statistics corroborated the results. CONCLUSIONS Hard metal milling and laser sintered frameworks exhibited the highest load to fracture values. However, all tested frameworks demonstrated clinically acceptable load to fracture values. The framework design directly affected the fracture load, with drastically lower values in cantilevered frameworks.

Abstract
Recently, translucent zirconia has become the most prevalent material used as a restorative material. This study aimed to compare the crown fracture load of the four most common different translucent zirconia brands available in the market at 1.5 mm thickness. Standardized tooth preparations for a full ceramic crown were designed digitally with software (AutoCAD) by placing a 1.0 mm chamfer margin and 1.5 mm occluso-cervical curvature for the crown sample manufacturing. Stylized crowns were chosen to control the thickness of the crown. The axial and occlusal thickness were standardized to 1.5 mm thickness except at the central pit, which was 1.3 mm thick. The STL file for the tooth dies was prepared using software (3Shape TRIOS® Patient Monitoring, Copenhagen, Denmark). The tooth dies were printed with a resin material (NextDent Model 2.0, Vertex-Dental B.V., Soesterberg, The Netherlands) using a 3D printing software (3D Sprint® Client Version 3.0.0.2494) from a 3D printer (NextDent™ 5100, Vertex-Dental B.V., Soesterberg, The Netherlands). The printing layer thickness was 50 µm. Then, a total of twenty-eight (N = 28) stylized crowns were milled out of AmannGirrbach (Amann Girrbach GmbH, Pforzheim, Germany) (n = 7), Cercon HT (Dentsply Sirona, Bensheim, Germany) (n = 7), Cercon XT (Dentsply Sirona, Bensheim, Germany) (n = 7), and Vita YZ XT (Zahnfabrik, Bäd Sackingen, Germany) (n = 7). Following sintering the crowns, sandblasting was performed and they were bonded to the tooth dies with the resin cement (RelyX U-200, 3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) and permitted to self-cure under finger pressure for 6 min. The crowns were loaded on the occlusal surface in a universal testing machine (MTS Centurion) with a stainless-steel ball indenter (7 mm radius) with a loading rate of 1 mm/min to contact the stylized crowns on each of the four cusps until failure. A rubber sheet (1.5 mm thickness) was positioned between the crown and indenter, which helped with the load distribution. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 20 (IBM Company, Chicago, USA). The fracture loads were analyzed using Dunnett’s T3 test, and the number of cracks was analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test among the groups. The significant level was set at p value = 0.05. The mean fracture loads were 3086.54 ± 441.74 N, 4804.94 ± 70.12 N, 3317.76 ± 199.80 N, and 2921.87 ± 349.67 N for AmannGirrbac, Cercon HT, Cercon XT, and Vita YZ XT, respectively. The mean fracture loads for the surfaces with the greatest number of cracks (excluding the occlusal surfaces) were on the lingual surface for AmannGirrbach and Cercon HT, on the distal and mesial for Cercon XT, and on the buccal for Vita YZ XT. We found that the AmannGirrbach had the most overall cracks. Cercon XT had the greatest number of occlusal cracks and appeared to be the most shattered. Cercon HT had the least number of cracks. In conclusion, Cercon HT presented the best strength properties, the highest fracture load, and no visible cracks. AmannGirrbach presented the lowest strength properties.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the load to fracture and fracture pattern of prosthetic frameworks for tooth-supported fixed partial dentures (FPDs) fabricated with different subtractive computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) materials. Materials and Methods: Thirty standardized specimens with two abutments were fabricated to receive three-unit posterior FDP frameworks with an intermediate pontic. Specimens were randomly divided into three groups (n = 10 each) according to the material: group 1 (MM)—milled metal; group 2 (L)—zirconia; and group 3 (P)—Polyetheretherketone (PEEK). The specimens were thermo-cycled and subjected to a three-point bending test until fracture using a universal testing machine (cross-head speed: 1 mm/min). Axial compressive loads were applied at the central fossa of the pontics. Data analysis was made using one-way analysis of variance, Tamhane post hoc test, and Weibull statistics (α = 0.05). Results: Significant differences were observed among the groups for the fracture load (p < 0.0001). MM frameworks showed the highest fracture load values. The PEEK group registered higher fracture load values than zirconia samples. The Weibull statistics corroborated these results. The fracture pattern was different among the groups. Conclusions: Milled metal provided the highest fracture load values, followed by PEEK, and zirconia. However, all tested groups demonstrated clinically acceptable fracture load values higher than 1000 N. PEEK might be considered a promising alternative for posterior FPDs.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Anterior veneered zirconia partial fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) have substituted for metal-ceramic to improve esthetics and biocompatibility. However, the material is susceptible to aging or hydrothermal degradation and to chipping of the feldspathic veneer. Whether these susceptibilities limit the clinical performance of anterior veneered zirconia FPDs is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this prospective clinical study was to analyze the mechanical and biologic behavior of zirconia partial FDPs in the anterior region over a 12-year follow-up period. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-seven 3- to 6-unit FDPs fabricated from zirconia veneered with feldspathic porcelain were placed in the anterior region and examined clinically at 1 month, 6 months, and then annually for 12 years, recording mechanical and biologic outcomes. Raw complication rates and time-to-event Kaplan-Meier analysis was conducted and compared as per the partial fixed dental prosthesis type. RESULTS Five FDPs had biologic complications (3 with secondary caries, 1 with periapical pathology, 1 with periodontal disease) and 9 had mechanical complications (7 with chipping and 2 with decementation). Chipping was the most prevalent complication and increasingly found with longer-span fixed partial prostheses (P=.007). Five FDPs had to be replaced because of complete failure, the most frequent cause of failure being secondary caries (P=.003). The mean survival rate (no failures) was 11 years 4 months (95% confidence interval, 10.3-12.7). CONCLUSIONS Zirconia FDPs had an 81.5% survival rate over 12 years. A higher incidence of complications took place during the first 3 years, the most common being chipping.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Marginal fit of zirconia restorations is an important criterion for their long-term success. However, in spite of the wide use of zirconia in dentistry, the relationship between marginal fit and low-temperature degradation from aging is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the marginal adaptation of veneered and monolithic zirconia and metal-ceramic computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) crowns before and after cementation and to evaluate the influence of artificial aging on the adaptation of zirconia crowns. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seventy-two standardized dies were prepared to receive a posterior crown and randomly divided into 6 groups (n=12) as per the material and the presence or not of cement: metal-ceramic, veneered zirconia, and monolithic zirconia. The zirconia groups were subjected to accelerated low-temperature degradation through hydrothermal aging in an autoclave at 131 °C and 0.17 MPa for 5 and 20 hours. A scanning electron microscope with a magnification of ×1000 was used for marginal adaptation measurements, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to characterize phase transformation degradation. The data were statistically analyzed using 2-way ANOVA, repeated measures ANOVA with Greenhouse-Geisser correction, and the t test (α=.05). RESULTS No significant differences in the marginal discrepancy were recorded among the analyzed groups. The presence of cement did not influence marginal fit in any treatment group. No significant differences were observed in the marginal adaptation values before and after aging (P>.05). After 20 hours of aging, the monoclinic phase increase to 8.3% on veneered zirconia and to 3.1% on monolithic crowns. CONCLUSIONS Monolithic and bilayer CAD-CAM zirconia crowns showed marginal gaps that were within an acceptable range of clinical discrepancy, regardless of cementation. Marginal adaptation was not influenced by aging. Low-temperature degradation did not lead to a significant transformation from the tetragonal to monoclinic phase.

Abstract
Background/purpose High translucent zirconia has been used as a new monolithic zirconia prosthesis, which has the potential to make anterior resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) without veneering porcelain. However, it is unclear whether the RBFDPs retainer can be thinned as much as conventional zirconia RBFDPs. The aim of this study was to assess the usability of high translucent zirconia RBFDPs with a thin retainer thickness by evaluating differences in retainer thickness on the surface strain. Materials and methods A model with a missing upper lateral incisor was used. The abutment teeth were upper central incisor and canine. Three types of RBFDPs were fabricated as follows: metal RBFDPs with a retainer thickness of 0.8 mm (0.8M), and high translucent zirconia RBFDPs with a retainer thicknesses of 0.8 and 0.5 mm (0.8Z, 0.5Z) (n = 10). The fitness of the margins was evaluated by the silicone replica technique. The surface strain of each retainer under static loading was measured and statistically analyzed using a t-test with Bonferroni correction. Results The marginal fitness of all RBFDPs was under 76.1 μm, which was clinically acceptable. Each strain of the 0.8Z and 0.5Z groups was significantly lower than that of the 0.8M (p < 0.05). There was no difference in strain of the zirconia RBFDPs even if the retainer thickness was changed. Conclusion Our results suggest that the high translucent zirconia RBFDPs can be manufactured with a retainer thickness of 0.5 mm, which reduces the amount of tooth preparation compared to the metal RBFDPs.

Abstract
New zirconia compositions with optimized esthetic properties have emerged due to the fast-growing technology in zirconia manufacturing. However, the large variety of commercial products and synthesis routes, make impossible to include all of them under the general term of “monolithic zirconia ceramics”. Ultra- or high translucent monolithic formulations contain 3–8 mol% yttria, which results in materials with completely different structure, optical and mechanical properties. The purpose of this study was to provide an update to the current knowledge concerning monolithic zirconia and to review factors related to strength and aging resistance. Factors such as composition, coloring procedures, sintering method and temperature, may affect both strength and aging resistance to a more or less extend. A significant reduction of mechanical properties has been correlated to high translucent zirconia formualtions while regarding aging resistance, the findings are contradictory, necessitating more and thorough investigation. Despite the obvious advantages of contemporary monolithic zirconia ceramics, further scientific evidence is required that will eventually lead to the appropriate laboratory and clinical guidelines for their use. Until then, a safe suggestion should be to utilize high-strength partially-stabilized zirconia for posterior or long span restorations and fully-stabilized ultra-translucent zirconia for anterior single crowns and short span fixed partial dentures.

Abstract
Purpose: To analyze in vitro the mechanical behavior of five types of complete coverage crowns fabricated from different materials. Materials and methods: Seventy-five full coverage crowns were divided into five groups according to material: Group I, metal core with feldspathic ceramic covering (MC- control group); Group II, zirconia core with feldspathic ceramic covering (CZ); Group III, tetragonal monolithic zirconia (TMZ); Group IV, cubic monolithic zirconia (CMZ); Group V, high molecular weight polymethyl methacrylate (PMMAG) doped with graphene nanoparticles. All crowns underwent in vitro fatiguing by dynamic loading in wet conditions to simulate the masticatory forces to which prosthodontic materials are subject in the oral medium. Lastly, fracture resistance was evaluated by static compression testing. Results: The fracture resistance values obtained were as follows: Group MC, 2443.6 ± 238.6 N; Group CZ, 2095.4 ± 329.2 N; Group TMZ, 2494.6 ± 236.6 N; Group CMZ, 1523.6 ± 325.2 N; and Group PMMAG, 1708.9 ± 386.6 N. Group MC presented higher strength with statistically significant differences in comparison with Groups CZ (P = 0.002), CMZ (P < 0.001), and PMMAG (P < 0.001). Weibull distribution showed less probability of cumulative biomechanical failure in Groups MC and TMZ. Conclusions: Metal-ceramic and tetragonal zirconia showed high fracture resistance, while cubic zirconia and PMMA doped with graphene nanoparticles obtained lower values.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The color of all-ceramic restorations is one of the main criteria to achieve esthetical success. Many factors such as ceramic thickness, condensation techniques, firing temperature, and numbers can affect the final color of restoration. The purpose of this study was to investigate the color changes in alumina-based ceramic system according to ceramic shade and thickness during the multiple firings. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty disc-shaped specimens with two different veneering porcelain shades (A1 or A3), and with three different ceramic thicknesses (0.5, 1, or 1.5 mm), were fabricated from an alumina-based ceramic system. Multiple firings (3, 5, 7, or 9 firings) were performed, and color changes (ΔE00 ) were determined using a spectrophotometer. Repeated-measures ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The Duncan test was used for multiple comparisons (α = .05). RESULTS The L*a*b* values of the specimens were affected by the number of firings (3, 5, 7, or 9), veneering ceramic shades (A1 or A3) and veneering ceramic thicknesses (0.5, 1, or 1.5 mm). Significant interactions were present between the number of firings, veneering ceramic shade, and veneering ceramic thickness for L* (p < .001), a* (p < .001), and b* (p < .001) values. CONCLUSIONS No statistically significant color change was observed between 3rd and 9th firings. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Veneering ceramic shade, veneering ceramic thickness, and number of firings should be carefully considered to obtain an acceptable color match of the definitive restorations.
