Abstract
INTRODUCTION Different materials and restorative concepts have been proposed over the years to restore endodontically treated teeth (ETT). Monolithic ceramic and composite restoration can be lute to the tooh, without the use of a post. However, little is known how the material stiffness and presence of a composite core will affect the survival and failure mode. The objective of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the fracture strength and failure mode of endodontically treated molars, restored with ceramic or hybrid composite monolithic restoration, in the presence of absence of a composite core. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty depulped molars were restored with a lithium-disilicate (e.max CAD) or hybrid composite (Cerasmart) restoration. Both materials were used in a monolithic approach, but with 3 different designs: (a) monolithic endocrown, (b) crown with a separate composite core, and (c) overlay without core buildup or pulpal extension. Ten sound teeth were used as control group. All groups were thermocycled (10,000 cycles), subsequently loaded in a chewing simulator (100,000 cycles) and finally loaded until fracture. RESULTS Peak fracture loads and failure modes were registered. No significant differences were seen between the groups in terms of fracture load. Failure modes were statistically significantly different among groups with significant correlation between restoration type and material. (p < 0.001 and p = 0.033, respectively). No group presented significantly higher fracture resistance. Although ceramic crowns and overlays presented the highest repairability, all restored ETT were within the range of the intact tooth' fracture strength. CONCLUSION No restoration presented significant different fracture loads. However, the type of restoration and material choice were correlated to the fracture mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review aimed to analyze the clinical (survival rate, failure risk, or fracture) and laboratory performance (fracture mode or failure) of rehabilitations of endodontically treated teeth, with and without posts. MATERIALS AND METHODS A systematic search was conducted in the Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and OpenGrey databases up to March 2023, according to PRISMA guidelines. In vitro and clinical studies that compared the clinical and laboratory performance of endodontically treated teeth with and without intraradicular posts were included. Studies selection, data extraction, and risk of bias analysis were performed. RESULTS Thirty-one in vitro and 7 clinical studies were included. For in vitro studies, fiberglass post (n = 24) was the most mentioned. The follow-up time of the clinical studies ranged from 1 to 17 years, with the fiber-reinforced composite post (n = 3) being the most evaluated, and only failure risk proved to be more favorable for using intraradicular posts. CONCLUSION Rehabilitations of endodontically treated teeth with and without intraradicular retainers showed no difference in fracture resistance and failure mode, evaluated by in vitro studies. Clinical studies showed no difference in survival rate, but failure risk proved to be more favorable for the use of posts. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This analysis revealed significant variability between results, however, most laboratory and clinical studies revealed no difference with using the post. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize the need to evaluate the coronary remnant and the general characteristics of the tooth in each situation.

Abstract
This case report explores the innovative application of the endocrown technique for restoring a severely damaged mandibular molar (tooth #46) in a 28-year-old male patient. With a recent root canal treatment history, the patient presented with a dislodged prosthesis. Due to financial constraints, a base metal alloy was chosen for the endocrown restoration. The unique preparation process involved reducing the occlusal surface by 2 mm, creating a shoulder cervical margin, and preserving enamel walls. The endocrown, crafted from a base metal alloy, demonstrated a semi-conservative approach, providing cost-effectiveness and minimal tooth preparation. The case adheres to the 2013 CAse REport (CARE) guidelines. The discussion highlights the biomechanical benefits of the endocrown, emphasizing stress resistance, stability, and superior performance compared to traditional treatments. Materials like ceramic, resin nanoceramic, and polyetheretherketone are briefly discussed, focusing on the promising success rates of endocrowns, mainly through computer-aided designing/computer-aided manufacturing systems. The report provides valuable insights for clinicians considering this endocrown technique in reconstructing severely damaged molars and premolars.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of the thickness and translucency of various computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials on the polymerization of dual-cure resin cement in endocrown restorations. Three commercially available CAD/CAM materials-lithium disilicate glass (e.max CAD), resin composite (CERASMART), and a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (ENAMIC)-were cut into plates with five different thicknesses (1.5, 3.5, 5.5, 7.5, and 9.5 mm) in both high-translucency (HT) and low-translucency (LT) grades. Panavia V5, a commercial dual-cure resin cement, was polymerized through each plate by light irradiation. Post-polymerization treatment was performed by aging at 37 °C for 24 h under light-shielding conditions. The degree of conversion and Vickers hardness measurements were used to characterize the polymerization of the cement. The findings revealed a significant decrease in both the degree of conversion and Vickers hardness with increasing thickness across all CAD/CAM materials. Notably, while the differences in the degree of conversion and Vickers hardness between the HT and LT grades of each material were significant immediately after photoirradiation, these differences became smaller after post-polymerization treatment. Significant differences were observed between samples with a 1.5 mm thickness (conventional crowns) and those with a 5.5 mm or greater thickness (endocrowns), even after post-polymerization treatment. These results suggest that dual-cure resin cement in endocrown restorations undergoes insufficient polymerization.

Abstract
Background: Classic endocrowns made of dental ceramics are considered a promising alternative to traditional post-endodontic restorations. The use of circular ferrules in endocrowns is a topic of controversial discussion. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the effect of ferrule design and cementation mode on the fatigue resistance of zirconia endocrowns. Methods: Eighty human molars were divided into four groups (n = 20): NFC (no-ferrule, conventional cementation), NFA (no-ferrule, adhesive luting), FC (ferrule, conventional cementation) and FA (ferrule, adhesive luting). Both the classic and the modified endocrown preparation with a two-millimeter ferrule design were carried out. Endocrowns were fabricated from zirconia using the CEREC system. After thermocycling, specimens were loaded according to the step-stress test up to 1500 N. Results: Failure rate was low; 88.8% of total specimens passed the step-stress test. Fractures were distributed between all groups; no significant differences in fatigue resistance were detected for preparation design and cementation mode. Conclusions: Endocrowns appear to be a promising concept for endodontically treated molars. Ferrule and also cementation mode have only a minor influence on fatigue resistance of zirconia endocrowns. However, at very high forces, the marginal area of the ferrule represents a weak point.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate how various tooth preparation designs impact the adaptation-both at the margins and internally-and the retentive strength of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) produced endocrowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS 60 extracted human mandibular first molars were endodontically treated and assigned into three groups (n = 20) according to the tooth preparation design: Group N: butt joint design, Group F and F1 received 1- and 2-mm circumferential ferrule preparation, respectively. Endocrowns were milled using either lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS emax ceramic) or monolithic zirconia. The internal and marginal adaptation of the endocrowns were evaluated using the replica technique. After cementation, the endocrowns of all test groups were dislodged axially at 0.5 mm/min using a universal testing machine. A 2-way ANOVA and the independent samples t-test (α = .05) were performed to statistically analyze the data. RESULTS The effect of changing the design of the tooth preparation (butt joint, ferrule) on the marginal and internal gap was shown to be statistically significant (p < .05); the lower gap values were recorded at the axial followed by cervical, marginal, and pulpal floor walls in both ceramic groups regardless of the teeth preparation design. The ANOVA test revealed similar average removal forces and stresses for the two types of tested ceramic materials. CONCLUSION IPS emax ceramic adapted better than monolithic zirconia ceramic, regardless of the preparation design. Ferrule preparation design is more retentive than butt joint preparation, regardless of the type of ceramic material used.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the possibility of using pediatric endocrowns to restore the second primary molar using three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis. DESIGN A 3D finite element model was built for a pediatric mandibular molar, starting with laser scanning a naturally extracted tooth. The access cavity had an elliptic shape with 6 mm width, 4 mm height, and 2 mm depth with a wall taper angle of 5 degrees.Two materials (Zr and E-max) were tested for the endocrown and two cementing materials (glass ionomer and resin cement) with 20 to 40 μm thickness. Twelve case studies were reported within this research as the applied load of 330 N was tested with three angulations vertical, oblique at 45 degrees, and laterally. RESULTS Twelve linear static stress analyses were performed. The resultant stresses and deformations' distribution patterns did not alter much, and values were within the threshold of physiological tolerance. Deformations were negligibly changed with changing endocrown and cement materials. In contrast, endocrown stresses indicated zirconia endocrown would have a long lifetime, while E-max one will have a relatively short lifetime. CONCLUSIONS Analysis results indicated that bone was negligibly affected by changing endocrowns and cementing materials. Both tested endocrown materials can be used safely. Zirconia endocrowns may have a much longer lifetime than E-max.

Abstract
Context Optimal restoration methods for endodontically treated teeth (ETTs) have always remained an ongoing discussion among physicians in this day and age. ETTs have a tendency to fracture when chewing, compared to initial teeth. From the perspective of biology, preserving and restoring tooth structure is critical to maintaining biomechanical, functional, and esthetic harmony. Dental bonding techniques have lessened the necessity for post-and-core restorations in ETTs with severe substance loss. A minimally invasive endodontic restoration technique called "endocrown" was initially introduced by Bindl and Mörmann in 1999. Aims The aim of the study was to clinically evaluate all-ceramic mandibular molar endocrowns made using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) following 2 years of follow-up. Subjects and Methods This unblinded study contains 56 patients with 56 mandibular molars, which had severe substance loss. After teeth preparation, lithium disilicate ceramic endocrowns were manufactured with the CEREC CAD/CAM system, and cementation was performed using a composite luting agent. The endocrowns were assessed using the modified United States Public Health Service criteria at baseline, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years following placement. Patient satisfaction was evaluated using a questionnaire. Statistical Analysis Used This study used descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, and 95% confidence intervals. Data were processed using STATA version 14.0 (StataCorp LLC, USA). Results Two endocrowns (3.6%) failed throughout the period of observation. The high clinical rating criteria (96.4%, count of 54) and the increased satisfaction percentage (94.6%, count of 53) remained practically stable during the follow-up assessments at 6 months and after 1-2 years. Conclusions Endocrown offers a less invasive treatment option that may be a better method for endodontically treated mandibular molars. With contemporary CAD/CAM technology and new materials, time in the chair and esthetics optimally improved, bringing satisfaction to the patient.

Abstract
Background Awareness and knowledge about the endocrown technique contribute to the delivery of quality dental care and restorative long-term success. Dentists must be aware and knowledgeable about endocrowns as they offer a conservative approach, aid in maintaining tooth integrity, and have become a promising option in use recently. Aim This study evaluated the current state of knowledge, and the understanding of the endocrown technique as post-endodontic management among senior undergraduate dental students and interns who have studied the theoretical and laboratory procedures of endocrown as part of the curriculum. Materials and methods This cross-sectional investigation was conducted through an online questionnaire consisting of 21 questions in three parts. The first part consisted of demographic information; the second encompassed knowledge and attitude; and the third part evaluated skills regarding endocrown technique. A total of 164 voluntary dental students and dental intern questionnaires were evaluated. Factor analysis was used to identify the domains for knowledge and skill. Results In this study, the knowledge and skills of undergraduate dental students toward endocrowns were assessed. The reliability statistics showed favorable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha values: 0.513 for knowledge and 0.729 for skill component 1). Significant correlations were noticed between knowledge component 1 and skill component 1 (r = 0.647, p < 0.001), knowledge component 1 and skill component 2 (r = 0.333, p < 0.001), and knowledge component 1 and skill component 3 (r = 0.260, p = 0.001). These findings emphasize the importance of evaluating students' understanding of endocrown. Significant differences were found among intern participants, fifth- and sixth-year dental students in component 1 of the knowledge (p-value<0.001), and all skills components. Conclusion Dental students have varying levels of knowledge and skills related to endocrown. Gaps in knowledge and skills have been detected, which dictates intervention actions, including curricular changes and training workshops.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, and awareness of dentists in Ha'il, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, regarding the use of endocrown as post-endodontic restorations, utilizing an online questionnaire. METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out among dental practitioners working in Ha'il, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dentists who practice in the Ha'il were included in the current study. The survey study involved a sample size of 245 participants. The researchers employed the snowball sampling technique in this investigation. The validated, closed-ended questionnaires were disseminated to the entire sample of selected dental practitioners using electronic mail. The initial section of the survey encompassed inquiries pertaining to the demographic characteristics of the participants, encompassing variables such as gender, years of professional experience, and workplace. The subsequent section of the survey focused on assessing the participants' knowledge and opinions regarding the endocrown technique. The Chi-square test was employed to assess the associations between categorical variables. RESULTS The most of participants 228 (93.1%) had knowledge about endocrown and 94 (38.4%) of them received information from their educational institutions. Among the responses of the participants, 232 (94.7%) expressed their preference for utilizing endocrown restorations specifically for molar teeth. Moreover, 183 (74.7%) of respondents indicated that the endocrown is preferred when there is a restricted amount of inter-arch space available. A majority of respondents 152 (62.0%) indicated that the ferrule does not exert any influence on the endocrown. A majority of participants 135 (55.1%) expressed a preference for utilizing lithium disilicate ceramic in the fabrication of endocrown. The most of participants 209 (85.3%) opted to use resin cement for the purpose of cementation. The characteristics of gender, experience, and working place were found to have a significant relationship with the knowledge of the participants about endocrown (p <0.05). CONCLUSIONS The study participants need to enhance their knowledge and awareness pertaining to the utilization of endocrowns as a post-endodontic treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the influence of tooth position and retention depth of the dental pulp cavity on the accuracy of intraoral digital impression of endocrown preparation. METHODS Dental pulp cavities with retention depths of 2, 3, 4 and 5 mm were prepared on 8 auatomic resin tooth models, including 4 right maxillary first molar (16) and 4 right mandibular first molar (46).Each cavity were scanned for 10 times using 3shape trios3, with micro-CT scans as the reference.All the scan data were exported, and the reference models were obtained by 3D reconstruction with Mimics 2021 software.Gomagic Wrap 2017 was used to analyze the 3D models.The average absolute deviation values were calculated to evaluate the accuracy of the digital models. RESULTS There was no significant difference in the authenticity and precision between models 16 and 46.The mean maximum positive and negative deviations of the model 16 were less than those of the model 46(P<0.05), and for both the models 16 and 46, the mean maximum positive deviation was significantly greater than the mean maximum negative deviation (P<0.05).The authenticity of the 5 mm group was lower than that of the 2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm groups (P<0.05).The precision was higher in 2 mm group than in 4 mm and 5 mm groups (P<0.05), and higher in 3 mm group than in 5 mm group (P<0.05).The mean maximum positive and negative deviations in 2 mm group were lower than those in 5 mm group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION The position of teeth has little influence on intraoral digital impression of the endocrown.The retention depth of the dental pulp cavity affects the accuracy of intraoral digital impression of the endocrown, and a greater depth results in a greater deviation.

Abstract
Endocrowns are designed to restore endodontically treated teeth with root canal treatment (Rct). Recently, endocrowns were proposed for teeth treated with full pulpotomy (FP). No data exist on in vitro evaluations for this combination. This study aimed to evaluate the mechanical behavior of pulpotomy-treated teeth with endocrowns according to different protocols for preparation design and materials and to assess whether 3D-printed resin simulators could be a reliable alternative for human teeth during in vitro strength tests. One hundred and ten extracted natural molars were randomized into 11 groups according to the type of endodontic treatment, the material used, and the design of peripheric preparation. One hundred and ten resin simulators were separated similarly. The samples were embedded in epoxy resin blocks before being subjected to oblique compressive load until failure. For natural teeth, the variance analysis separated two homogeneous groups, one regrouping the endodontically treated or pulpotomy-treated teeth without coronal restoration and the other one regrouping all the other samples, i.e., the untreated teeth (positive controls) and the treated and restored teeth. The strength resistance was lower for the resin simulators than for natural teeth in all groups. Within the limit of this study, strength resistance is not the most important criterion for choosing the type of material, preparation, or endodontic treatment for endocrowns. Resin simulators are not efficient for in vitro strength studies.

Abstract
Background The endocrown is described as monobloc ceramic component. The pull-out bond strength acts as a real-life scenario of failure that occurs in endocrown. The different preparation designs have been included to assess the type of preparation that resists the least failure. Aim To evaluate the effect of three different types of preparation designs on the pull-out bond strength (PBS) of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) monolithic endocrowns. Methods and Materials Thirty extracted mandibular first molars were used for this study. Root canal treatment was done. Samples were divided into three groups of 10 samples each. Group A consists of traditional endocrown preparation with a butt joint preparation. The group B consists of a modified preparation with 50-60 degree inward slope. The group C consists of preparation with a 50-60 degree outward slope. Endocrowns were fabricated using CAD/CAM lithium disilicate glass-ceramics. The endocrowns were adhesively bonded to the respective preparations. Pull-out bond strength was calculated using the universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Statistical Analysis The results were statistically evaluated by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc analysis. Results Group B had higher pull-out bond strength compared to the other two types of preparation designs and showed a statistically significant value with a mean significant difference at 0.05 level (P < 0.05). Conclusion The 50-60 degree inward bevel in endocrown preparation increased the pull-out bond strength in lithium disilicate endocrowns.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The marginal seal and adaptation are important factors for successful restoration. An inadequate marginal seal can lead to bacterial microleakage, plaque accumulation, and eventually treatment failure This in vitro study aimed to compare the marginal gap of endocrowns fabricated from three different computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) ceramic materials. METHODS Thirty extracted mandibular molars were selected for the study. Endocrown preparations were completed after root canal treatment. Teeth were divided into three groups to receive endocrowns fabricated of lithium disilicate ceramic (IPS-e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent AG, Schaan, Liechtenstein), zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramic (VITA Suprinity®, VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, Germany), and polymer-infiltrated ceramic (VITA Enamic®, VITA Zahnfabrik). The digital impressions were transferred to the design software to construct the endocrowns. The endocrowns were milled and cemented. The marginal fit was examined using a digital camera stereomicroscope at a magnification of 80X. Images were transferred to Image-J software (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, United States) to measure the marginal gap. RESULTS One-way ANOVA showed a significant difference in the marginal gap between the different ceramic groups (P=0.006). Tukey's Honest Significant Difference (HSD) post-hoc test showed that VITA Suprinity had significantly higher gap width values than VITA Enamic (P=0.005). No significant differences in gap width values were found between VITA Enamic and IPS e.max CAD or between VITA Suprinity and IPS e.max CAD (P>0.05). CONCLUSION The marginal gap of endocrown restorations varies with different CAD/CAM materials (zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate glass-ceramic, polymer-infiltrated hybrid ceramic, and lithium disilicate glass-ceramic), but are all within clinically acceptable marginal gap width.

Abstract
Background Cement film space plays a significant role in achieving good adaptation of indirect restorations. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of cement space parameters on the marginal adaptation of computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAM) endocrowns. Methodology The coronal part of 10 freshly extracted human mandibular molars was reduced to a level of 1.5 mm above the cementoenamel junction (CEJ); then, root canal treatment was performed. On each tooth, four lithium disilicate endocrowns with different cement space parameters (40, 80, 120, and 160 µm) were designed and fabricated using CAD/CAM. Endocrowns were seated to their prepared teeth, and the vertical marginal gap was measured in 20 equidistant points for each endocrown using a stereomicroscope on 90× magnification. The mean marginal gaps of the four groups were compared using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey honestly significant difference (HSD) test considering p<0.05 as the cutoff for statistical significance. Results The mean marginal gap of the 40 µm, 80 µm, 120 µm, and 160 µm groups were 46.25±21.20 µm, 21.75±11.10 µm, 15.94±06.62 µm, and 13.10±07.08 µm, respectively. One-way ANOVA showed a significant difference in the marginal gaps between groups (p<0.001). The Tukey post hoc test showed a statistically significant mean difference between 40 µm and each of the other three groups (p<0.001). Conclusion The cement space parameter variation affects the marginal adaptation of endocrowns. The cement space of 40 µm resulted in a higher marginal gap than cement spaces of 80, 120, and 160 µm.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Masticatory pressure increases in the distal areas of the dentition. This should be considered when restoring partially edentulous patients with a metal-free fixed partial denture (FPD). An alternative abutment preparation design can be used in order to increase the materials' volume in the most fracture-prone "connector area" of an FPD. The increased size of the connection might positively influence the constructions' mechanical durability, thereby increasing its success and survivability. AIM The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of two preparation designs of the distal abutment on the fracture resistance of three-unit, monolithic, ZrO2 FPDs. MATERIALS AND METHODS 3D printed replicas of a partially edentulous mandibular segment and a ZrO2, milled in full-contour, three-unit FPDs were used for this investigation. Two experimental groups (n=10 ) were defined based on the preparation design of the distal abutment tooth - classical shoulder preparation 0.8 mm deep, and endocrown preparation with a 2-mm retention cavity. The bridge - mandibular segment replica assembly was done with relyXU200(3M ESPE, USA), light-cured for 10 seconds per side with D-light Duo (GC, Europe). After cementation the test specimens were subjected to loading in a universal testing machine Zwick (Zwick-Roell Group, Germany). Statistical analysis was performed using R and includes descriptive statistics, t-test for quantitative and chi-squared test for qualitative variables. RESULTS The results showed no difference between the two studied groups in the maximum force required to fracture the test specimens [t=-1.8088 (17.39), p-value=0.087; P>0.05]. 95% of the fracture lines were located in the distal connector. CONCLUSIONS Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that both tested preparation designs show similar results in terms of the load required to fracture the test specimens. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the distal connector is the weakest area of an all-ceramic 3-unit FPD in the posterior area.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to assess the pull-out bond strength (PBS) of endodontically treated anterior teeth that had been restored with monolithic zirconia endocrowns using different extension depths (EDs) and post-and-core crowns after chewing simulation. METHODS Thirty-six maxillary central teeth were used (n = 12). Group I: Glass fiber post-and-core crown, Group II: Endocrown with 3-mm EDs, Group III: Endocrown with 5-mm EDs. Restorations were fabricated from monolithic zirconia blocks using a CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) device. For cementation, conventional resin luting agent (Multilink N) was used. All samples were aged with a chewing simulator and PBS tests were conducted at a speed of 1 mm/min using an electromechanical servo universal testing machine. The values were recorded in MPa by dividing the failure load by the bonding area. One-way ANOVA and the post-hoc Tukey test were used for statistical analysis (P = 0.05). RESULTS Group III demonstrated significantly greater PBS values than Groups I and II (P = 0.001). No significant difference was found between Groups I and II (P = 0.072). CONCLUSION Increasing the ED of an endocrown influences the PBS of endodontically treated anterior teeth restored with monolithic zirconia endocrowns.

Abstract
AIM The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the stress distribution patterns, resistance to fracture, and failure modes of endodontically treated molars restored with different cuspal coverage options. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three-dimensional models of mandibular first molars with six kinds of typical cuspal coverage were generated: T1: mesiobuccal cuspal coverage; T2: coverage of all buccal cusps; T3: mesiolingual cuspal coverage; T4: coverage of all lingual cusps; T5: mesiobuccal and mesiolingual cuspal coverage; T6: coverage of all cusps. All restorations were fabricated with zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramic. The stress and its distributions under axial and oblique loading were analyzed by finite element analysis (FEA). Sixty human mandibular molar samples were randomly allocated into six groups (n = 10) to simulate the application of six types of restorations with different cuspal coverage, as in the FEA analysis, and were then subjected to a compressive test. All fractured specimens were subjected to fractography. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the Tukey post hoc test, and the Fisher exact test (α = 0.05). RESULTS The T2 and T6 groups presented superior stress distribution patterns under both axial and oblique loading compared with the other models. The fracture loads in the T2 (1627 ± 358 N) and T6 (1639 ± 355 N) groups were significantly higher than those in the other groups (P < 0.05). The T2 and T6 groups exhibited more restorable failure modes. Fractography showed more cracks below the cementoenamel junction in the T3, T4, and T5 groups. CONCLUSIONS Onlay restorations with whole functional cuspal coverage provided comparable effects to coverage of all cusps in endodontically treated molars, and both methods exhibited a more even stress distribution and fracture resistance and better mechanical performance in high occlusal areas than other types of cuspal coverage. Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of different surface treatments, ferrule heights, and luting agents on the pull-out bond strength (PBS) of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) monolithic endocrowns. METHODS After endodontic treatment and preparation for two endocrown designs (ferrule height 0 mm or 2 mm), CAD-CAM monolithic zirconia endocrowns were fabricated for 80 mandibular molars. Each endocrown design group was then divided on the basis of surface treatment into two groups: half were air-abraded and half were air-abraded/laser-irradiated. Then, all treated groups were further divided into two subgroups (n = 10) and cemented to teeth with either a 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP)-containing resin luting agent (Panavia SA) or a combination of MDP-containing primer and MDP-free resin luting agent (Monobond Plus/Multilink Automix). PBS was measured with a universal test machine after simulated chewing and thermocycling. Three-way ANOVA and the post-hoc Bonferroni test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS PBS was significantly associated with type of surface treatment, type of luting agent, and ferrule height. Air-abraded/laser-irradiated endocrowns with a 2-mm ferrule that were cemented with Monobond Plus/Multilink Automix had the highest PBS (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Surface treatment with air abrasion/laser irradiation, presence of a ferrule, and priming with an MDP-containing primer increased the PBS of monolithic zirconia endocrowns.

Abstract
Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of ceramic material and preparation design on the marginal fit of endocrown restorations. Methods: Forty endocrown restorations were CAD/CAM-fabricated for forty extracted maxillary first premolar teeth. Samples were divided into two groups (n = 20) according to the ceramic materials used: Celtra Duo and Vita Enamic. Each group was divided into two subgroups (n = 10) according to the preparation design: with no intraradicular extension and with 3 mm intraradicular extension. The marginal gap was examined using a digital microscope. Results: Celtra Duo without intraradicular extension recorded the least mean marginal gap (7.74 ± 1.55 µm), while Group Celtra Duo with 3 mm intraradicular extension recorded the highest mean marginal gap (29.54 ± 6.32 µm). Group Vita Enamic recorded a lesser marginal gap (18.03 ± 12.11 µm) than group CD (Celtra Duo) (18.64 ± 12.05 µm). There is a statistically non-significant difference between the two groups of materials (p = 0.873). There is a statistically significant difference between the two tested preparation designs (p < 0.001). Conclusion: All groups recorded a marginal gap within clinically accepted values. Material selection may influence the fitting of restorations. Intraradicular extension for endocrown restorations adversely affects the marginal fit, however, the marginal gap is still within the clinically accepted range.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the marginal and internal adaptation of endocrowns produced using conventional technique, digital technique, and combination (cast digitization) techniques using microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten freshly extracted human mandibular molar teeth were prepared for all-ceramic endocrowns. A total of 40 Lithium Disilicate (IPS e.max) endocrowns were fabricated and grouped according to the impression and production technique to four groups: Group (CO): Conventional impression/heat pressed endocrowns (n = 10), Group (CAD): Direct scanning of teeth/CAD-CAM endocrowns (n = 10), Group (COMIO): Combination; Cast digitization using Intraoral scanner/CAD-CAM endocrowns (n = 10), Group (COML): Combination; Cast digitization using laboratory scanner/CAD-CAM endocrowns (n = 10). Micro-computed tomography was used to measure the marginal and internal gaps in 11 predetermined sites. Mean marginal and internal gaps were compared using analysis of variance and Scheffe's post hoc test. RESULTS CO, CAD, COMIO, and COML groups showed significant differences in the mean marginal gap (150 ± 35 μm, 120 ± 27 μm, 110 ± 24 μm, 120 ± 29 μm, respectively p = 0.013), gap at line angle (280 ± 70 μm, 130 ± 37 μm, 140 ± 54 μm, 130 ± 33 μm, respectively, p < 0.001), gap at cavity wall (210 ± 76 μm, 140 ± 43 μm, 140 ± 52 μm, 150 ± 44 μm, respectively, p = 0.010) and gap at pulpal floor (500 ± 150 μm, 240 ± 58 μm, 260 ± 59 μm, 240 ± 64 μm, respectively, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Digitally fabricated endocrowns showed superior marginal and internal fit compared to the conventionally fabricated endocrowns. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Marginal and internal adaptation are detrimental factors for the success and survival of dental restorations including endocrowns. When compared with the conventional impressions and conventional production techniques, Digital workflow is more predictable and reliable as it reduces errors and improves the accuracy of fit.

Abstract
There is ample evidence to support the use of endocrowns to restore endodontic teeth. However, the influence of the position of the interproximal margins on fracture strength has not yet been studied. The aim was to determine the relationship between the apicocoronal position of the interproximal restorative margins and fracture resistance in nonvital teeth restored with CAD/CAM endocrown overlays. Forty extracted human maxillary premolars were prepared for endocrown overlay restorations without ferrule on the interproximal aspects and classified according to the position of the interproximal restoration margins in relation to the alveolar crest: 2 mm (group A), 1 mm (group B), 0.5 mm (group C), and 0 mm (group D). Fracture strength was measured using a universal testing machine applying a compressive force to the longitudinal tooth axis. Group A had a mean fracture resistance of 859.61 (±267.951) N, group B 1053.9 (±333.985) N, group C 1124.6 (±291.172) N, and group D 780.67 (±183.269) N, with statistical differences between groups. Group C had the highest values for fracture strength compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). The location of the interproximal margins appears to influence the fracture resistance of CAD/CAM endocrown overlays. A distance of 0.5 mm between the interproximal margin and the alveolar crest was associated with increased fracture resistance.

Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the effects of fibers insertion and restorative material type on the stress distribution in endocrowns with finite element analysis. Five 3D models of first mandibular molars were created and restored as follows: (1) IN: intact tooth, (2) IPS-E: tooth restored with lithium disilicat ceramic endocrowns, (3) C-E: tooth restored with composite endocrowns, (4) IPS-E + F: lithium disilicate ceramic endocrowns + fiber, (5) C-E + F: composite endocrowns + fiber. Vertical masticatory load was imitated with finite element analysis. The equivalent stress of von Mises failure criterion (mvM) was calculated. The maximum mvM stress, enamel/crown, dentin and cement were compared among models and strength of the materials. Endocrowns presented a lower mvM stress level than intact tooth. In IPS-E, the mvM stress values in the crown and dentin were higher than C-E, while the mvM stress values in cement were higher in C-E group. Fibers insertion did not affect the stress level of IPS-E and C-E groups. In IPS model, fiber showed more stress absorption than C-E. The restorative material type changed the stress distribution of endocrown restorations. The fiber application did not affect the stress distribution in either endocrown group. But, more stress absorption was observed in fiber under IPS-E than C-E.

Abstract
Aim of this study was to determine the fracture strength and modes of endocrown and overlay restorations with/without fiber reinforcement on endodontically treated teeth. Sixty-five molar teeth were used: Group IN (intact teeth), Group E (endocrown), Group ER (endocrown + ribbond), Group O (overlay), Group OR (overlay + ribbond; n = 13). Ribbond (Seattle, WA) was inserted at the base of pulp chamber in Group ER and OR. All restorations were designed and produced by using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (Sirona Dental Systems, Bensheim, Germany) and Cerasmart (GC Corp. Kasugai, Aichi, Japan). All teeth were subjected to thermomechanical aging and fractured in a universal test device. Fractured surfaces were analyzed with a stereomicroscope (SMZ1000, Nikon, Japan). Data were analyzed with Welch's analysis of variance and Games-Howell test (p < .001). Group E showed significantly lower fracture strength values than other groups(p < .05). No statistically significant differences were found among the other groups(p > .05). Most of the unfavorable fractures were seen in Groups E and O. Overlay restorations showed higher fracture strength values than endocrown restorations. Although fiber insertion did not improve the fracture strength of the indirect restorations, it reduced the frequency of irreparable fracture mode. Overlay restorations and fiber application are more advantageous in preserving the durability of the endodontically treated teeth.

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate in vitro post-fatigue fracture behavior of endodontically treated molars having been differently restored. Methods: A total of 120 extracted human molars were used. A total of 120 specimens in 14 test groups and one control group (n = 8) were root canal treated. After postendodontic sealing and build-up (AdheSE Universal, SDR), additional MOD preparations were cut. Postendodontic restorations were: Direct restorations (Tetric EvoCeram BulkFill bonded with AdheSE Universal and EverX Posterior/Essentia bonded with G-Premio Bond; as filling (F) or direct partial crown (DPC) after reducing the cusps 2 mm; indirect adhesive restorations (partial crown/PC vs. full crown/FC): e.max CAD, Celtra Duo, both luted with Variolink Esthetic; indirect zirconia restorations (partial crown/PC vs. full crown/FC), luted with RelyX Unicem 2; indirect non-bonded cast gold restorations (partial crown/PC vs. full crown/FC; Degunorm), luted with Ketac Cem. Before and after 300,000 thermocycles (5/55 °C) and 1.2 Mio. A total of 100 N load cycles, replicas were analyzed under a SEM for marginal quality in enamel and dentin (where applicable) and finally, specimens were loaded until fracture. Results: In direct groups, there was no difference between RC and FRC in fracture strength (p > 0.05); however, direct partial crowns showed higher post-fatigue fracture resistance. Regarding marginal quality, intracoronal FRC restorations exhibited more gap-free margins in enamel than RC. In the indirect groups, there was no significant difference between partial and full crowns in any of the adhesively luted ceramic groups regarding post-fatigue fracture resistance. Zirconia partial crowns exhibited significantly lower marginal quality in enamel. Indirect groups performed significantly better than direct groups in fracture resistance. Within the indirect restorations, both cast gold groups and zirconia full crowns exhibited the highest fracture resistance being superior to control teeth. Significances: Within the limits of this in vitro investigation, it can be concluded that any kind of indirect restoration with cusp replacement is suitable for ETT restoration when a certain cavity extension is exceeded. All indirect restorations, i.e., endocrowns, partial crowns, and full crowns showed a promising performance after in vitro fatigue-loading.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of inner crown thickness on the bonding strength of porcelain fused to Co-Cr alloy endocrown by shear strength test. METHODS According to the molar average anatomical data to obtain a simplified model for endocrowns, porcelain fused to Co-Cr alloy endocrowns were fabricated with four inner crown thicknesses: 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm, and 1.0 mm group, eight specimens were fabricated for each thickness group. Shear bond strength test was used to observe the metal-porcelain bonding strength, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) analysis were performed after the test to evaluate the interface of metal-porcelain. RESULTS The shear bond strength means (in MPa) were: 10.50 ± 2.55 (0.3 mm), 13.21 ± 2.27 (0.5 mm), 14.47 ± 1.46 (0.8 mm), and 15.78 ± 2.81 (1.0 mm), one-way ANOVA showed that there was a statistically significant difference among the thicknesses (P < 0.05). The SEM observation showed tight bonding, and the EDS analysis showed element diffusion phenomenon at the metal-porcelain interface. CONCLUSION The bonding strength of porcelain fused to Co-Cr alloy endocrown varied according to the different thickness of inner crown and the thinner inner crown was recommended for tooth defects with limited prosthodontic space.

Abstract
The endocrown is a ceramic restoration that combines a core and a crown into a single structure. This restoration can be useful for endodontically treated teeth, for which traditional crown preparation can be difficult. Although most of these restorations are fabricated using single-visit computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing technology, they can also be fabricated by a laboratory using traditional polyvinyl siloxane impressions. This article will review the concept of endocrowns and describe 3 clinical situations in which an endocrown was utilized for the restoration of a compromised endodontically treated tooth.

Abstract
This position statement on the restoration of root filled teeth represents the consensus of an expert committee, convened by the European Society of Endodontology (ESE). Current clinical and scientific evidence, as well as the expertise of the committee, have been used to develop this statement. The aim is to provide clinicians with evidence-based principles for decision-making on the choice of restoration following the completion of root canal treatment. By discussing the evidence in relation to key topics regarding post-endodontic restoration, a series of clinical recommendations are made. The scientific basis of the recommendations made in this paper can be found in a recently published review article (Bhuva et al. 2021, International Endodontic Journal, https://doi.org/10.1111/iej.13438). It is the intention of the committee to update this statement as further evidence emerges.

Abstract
Objectives: The primary objective of this systematic review is to compare the fracture resistance of lithium disilicate (LDS)-based endocrowns and resin-based (RB) endocrowns of in-vitro studies, and the secondary objective is to compare their catastrophic failures. Materials and Methods: The review protocol was registered in the P ROSP ERO database (CRD42020166201). A comprehensive literature search was done in PubMed, Cochrane, EBSCOhost and Google Scholar using key terms. Only in-vitro studies that compared fracture resistance of LDS-based endocrowns and indirect RB endocrowns in molars were included. Data extraction, risk of bias assessment and qualitative analysis of the included studies were performed. Results: Five studies were included in this systematic review. The overall risk of bias for the included studies was moderate. Under axial loading, RB endocrowns showed similar fracture resistance when compared with LDS endocrowns. However, they showed better fracture resistance when compared with zirconia reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) endocrowns. Furthermore, RB endocrowns showed fewer catastrophic failures than LDS-based endocrowns. Conclusions: RB endocrowns have similar or better fracture resistance and fewer catastrophic failures when compared to LDS-based endocrowns.

Abstract
Restoring extensively damaged endodontically treated posterior teeth is always a challenge in dentistry. The use of endocrowns has gained popularity in restoring severely damaged endodontically treated teeth (ETT) in recent years. In this clinical report, a structurally compromised mandibular second molar with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and normal apical tissue was endodontically treated. Surgical crown lengthening was attempted thereafter to increase the crown height. However, marginal periodontal tissue re-growth occurred after surgical crown lengthening. The tooth was subsequently restored with endocrown which was fabricated using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing-based hybrid-ceramic. In conclusion, endocrown can be a viable restorative modality for ETT with compromised clinical crown height.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the effect of occlusal thickness design on fracture resistance of endocrowns restored with lithium disilicate ceramic and zirconia. METHODS A total of 24 artificial first mandibular molars were randomly divided into four groups with six teeth in each group as follows: group lithium disilicate ceramic-2 mm (lithium disilicate ceramic, with an occlusal thickness of 2 mm and a retainer length of 4 mm); group lithium disilicate ceramic-4 mm (lithium disilicate ceramic, with an occlusal thickness of 4 mm and a retainer length of 2 mm); group zirconia-2 mm (zirconia, with an occlusal thickness of 2 mm and a retainer length of 4 mm); and group zirconia-4 mm (zirconia, with an occlusal thickness of 4 mm and a retainer length of 2 mm). After adhesive cementation (RelyX Ultimate Clicker), all specimens were subjected to thermocycling (10 000 cycles). The specimens were subjected to fracture resistance testing at a 135° angle to the teeth at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm·min⁻¹ in a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test by SPSS 15.0. The failure modes were classified. RESULTS The fracture resistances of groups lithium disilicate ceramic-
2 mm, lithium disilicate ceramic-4 mm, zirconia-2 mm, and zirconia-4 mm were (890.54±83.41), (2 320.87±728.57),
(2 258.05±557.66), and (3 847.70±495.99) N respectively. Group zirconia-4 mm had the highest fracture resistance, whereas group lithium disilicate ceramic-2 mm had the lowest. CONCLUSIONS The fracture resistance of molar endocrown with zirconia is higher than that with lithium disilicate ceramic. Increasing the occlusal thickness can improve the fracture resistance but increase the risk of fracture of abutment.

Abstract
To analyze the stress distribution of the maxillary central incisor with oblique fracture, repaired by different methods, using 3-dimensional finite element analysis. From the biomechanical point of view, it is expected to provide a reference for clinical selection of restoration method which is more conducive to stress distribution and preservation of dental tissue as much as possible.Use cone beam CT and finite element software to establish the finite element models of the maxillary central incisor with oblique fracture, and then create models according to 5 repairing methods(A. fiber post-core-crown group; B. cast post-core-crown group; C.3 mm deep endocrown; D.4 mm deep endocrown; E.5 mm deep endocrown)after root canal treatment, and analyze the Von Mises equivalent stress and maximum principal stress distribution and peak value of each model.When the height of dentin ferrule was fixed, the value of the Von Mises equivalent stress and the maximum principal stress in residual tooth tissue: group A was the highest, and there was no significant difference in group B, C, D and E. And the stress distribution area of 5 groups were the same. In prosthodontic layer: group B was the highest, while group A was the lowest, and the stress peak slightly increased with the increase of depth in group C, D and E. And the 5 groups were with the same stress distribution area as well. In adhesive layer: group A was the highest, while group B was the lowest, and there was little difference among group C, D and E. Group A was concentrated in 1/3 of the post tip, while group B,C,D and E were concentrated in 1/3 of the post and the post tips.Complete and high enough dentin ferrule is a requirement for repairing heavily defected maxillary central incisor with fiber post-core crown and cast post-core crown. When the dentin ferrule is incomplete, the stress distribution of the endocrown is more excellent than post-core-crown. And the endocrown with a depth of 3 mm retainer may be the best repair method. As for post-core crown restoration, the cast post-core crown is more favorable for the uniform distribution of residual tooth tissue than the fiber post-core crown.

Abstract
Endocrowns were manufactured using different restorative materials to evaluate the marginal adaptation and fracture strength. Fifty endodontically treated mandibular first molar teeth were divided into five groups (n = 10). Endocrowns were obtained from lithium disilicate glass ceramic ingots by heat-press technique (Group e.max Press: GEP), and from feldspathic blocks (Group Cerec: GC), polymer infiltrated ceramic network blocks (Group Enamic: GE), lithium disilicate glass ceramic blocks (Group e.max CAD: GEC), and zirconia-reinforced glass ceramic blocks (Group Suprinity: GS) by CAD/CAM technique. After thermocycling, marginal adaptation was evaluated under scanning electron microscope at ×200 magnification. The specimens' fracture strengths were tested in universal test machine, and fracture types were evaluated. Statistical analyses were performed with Kruskal-Wallis test. The highest marginal gap value was found in GEP, but no significant differences were determined among the other four groups (p > .05). Significant differences were observed among the groups in terms of fracture strength (p = .019). The fracture strength values of GEC were significantly higher than GE, GC, and GS (p < .05). Values were not significantly different between the GEC and GEP groups (p > .05). CAD/CAM endocrowns showed better marginal adaptation than heat-pressed endocrowns. Clinically acceptable marginal gaps were seen in both endocrown types. Both CAD/CAM and heat-pressed lithium disilicate glass ceramic endocrowns showed higher fracture strength.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess stress distribution in full-crowns with a composite buildup and endocrowns under axial or oblique loads, both with different ferrules (1 or 2 mm) and ceramic materials (glass ceramic or hybrid ceramic). MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen models were analyzed with finite element analysis. No-separation contacts were considered between restoration/resin cement and resin cement/tooth. The contact between the fixation cylinder and the root was considered perfectly bonded. The axial load was applied to the occlusal surface and the oblique load was applied to the buccal cusp. The resulting tensile stresses were shown for the crown, the cement layer and the tooth. RESULTS Almost all factors influenced the stress distribution significantly in the crown and the cement layer, as well as the tooth. The only exception was found under oblique loading by the restoration material and the type of crown that were of no significant influence on the stress distribution in the tooth. CONCLUSIONS Under axial load, the endocrown showed the least tensile stresses in the tooth, but under oblique loads, the full-crown showed less tensile stresses than the endocrown. With the hybrid ceramic material, lower stresses were found in the crown, but higher stresses were present in the cement layer. The 2 mm ferrule is beneficial for reducing the resulting tensile stresses in all modalities.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to evaluate the effect of lithium disilicate endocrowns compared to prefabricated zirconia crown used for restoring pulpotomized primary molars, on their Fracture Resistance and to compare the loads to failure these different ceramic restorations with previously reported posterior occlusal forces. METHODS Twenty mandibular left second primary molars were randomly distributed into two groups (n = 10 in each group) the zirconia Crown (Nusmile zr.) Group (G1) and the lithium disilicate (IPS e.max Press) Endocrown Group (G2). In all groups pulpotomy procedure was done before preparation then each sample was prepared based on their allocated restoration, both zirconia crown (Nusmile zr.) and endocrown (IPS e.max Press) were cemented by dual-cure resin cement. All samples were loaded to failure using a universal testing machine (Instron, USA), and the compressive force was applied. The data were analysed using one-way (ANOVA) and Tukey's post hoc significance difference tests. Differences were considered significant at (p< 0.05). RESULTS Group zirconia crown (G1) showed significantly higher fracture strength than Group (G2) lithium disilicate endocrown (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The zirconia crown showed higher fracture resistance than lithium disilicate endocrown. However, both tested zirconia crown and lithium disilicate endocrown withstood the application of axial occlusal forces greater than the reference values for posterior occlusal loads.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the stress distribution of the mandibular first molar with different thicknesses and heights of the axial wall restored by the endocrown with two marginal designs and thus provide a theoretical basis for selecting clinical preparation through the finite-element method. METHODS Two marginal endocrowns of the mandibular first molar with different axial-wall thicknesses (t=1, 2, 3 mm) and heights (h=2, 3, 4 mm) were established. Group A was the butt-joint design, whereas group B was the shoulder-surrounded design. After applying vertical and oblique loads , the size and distribution of the maximum principal stress and equivalent stress of residual tooth tissue were recorded. RESULTS The maximum principal stress and equivalent stress distribution of residual tooth tissue were similar among different models. Group A showed a lower maximum principal stress and equivalent stress than group B at the same thickness and height under vertical load. Meanwhile, under oblique load, the maximum principal stress values of groups A and B decreased with increased thickness at constant height. Group A showed lower equivalent stress than group B at the same thickness and height of 2 and
3 mm. However, when the height was 4 mm, the trend was reversed. CONCLUSIONS In mastication, when bearing the vertical force, the retention of the butt-joint marginal endocrown preferred to the shoulder-surrounded one. Given the higher axial wall of the shoulder-surrounded marginal endocrown, it showed better ability to bear the oblique force than the butt-joint one.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of restoration design on the fracture resistance of different computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) ceramics and investigate the marginal leakage of endocrowns according to different types of cement. In total, 96 extracted mandibular first premolars were used for fabrication of endocrowns; 48 of the endocrowns were divided into 6 groups (n = 8) according to intracoronal cavity depth (2 and 3 mm) and CAD/CAM ceramics (lithium disilicate IPS e.max-CAD, zirconia-reinforced glass-ceramic Vita Suprinity, and poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK)). Teeth were subjected to a fracture resistance test with a universal test machine following thermo-cycling. Failure modes were determined by stereomicroscope after the load test. The rest of the endocrowns (n = 48) were produced by Vita Suprinity ceramic and divided into 6 groups (n = 8) according to the cement used (Panavia V5, Relyx Ultimate, and GC cement) with intracoronal cavity depths of 2 and 3 mm. Microleakage tests were performed using methylene blue with stereomicroscope after thermo-cycling. Numerical data for both fracture resistance and microleakage tests were obtained and evaluated by three-way ANOVA. PEEK endocrowns had higher fracture resistance compared to lithium disilicate and Vita Suprinity. Panavia V5 cement had the lowest degree of microleakage, while GC cement had the highest. Different intracoronal cavity depths had no correlation with fracture resistance and microleakage.

Abstract
Nonvital teeth with repeated restoration failures are particularly challenging to dental practitioners. This case report describes the fabrication of a novel cast metal endocrown following the failure of 2 different types of restorations (post and core-retained crown and ceramic endocrown). This approach was used to preserve the tooth and avoid extraction.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of this study was to determine the fracture strength of endocrowns made of lithium disilicate ceramic and two different indirect resin composites. Materials and Methods Forty human mandibular molars were randomly separated into four groups (n = 10 in each group) - Group IN: control group, Group IPS: endocrowns made of lithium disilicate ceramic (IPS e.max CAD, IvoclarVivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein); Group SL: Endocrowns made of Solidex microhybrid composite (Shofu, Ratingen, Germany); and Group GR: Endocrowns made of Grandia microhybrid composite (GC Europa, Leuven, Belgium). In all of the groups, dual-cure resin cement (Relyx Ultimate Clicker, 3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA) was used to cement the endocrowns. All of the teeth were subjected to fracture by means of a universal testing machine (Instron), and compressive force was applied. The failure type and location after fracture were classified. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey's post hoc test, and Chi-square test (P < 0.05). Results Group IPS showed significantly higher fracture strength than Groups SL and GR (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the SL and GR groups (P > 0.05). In Group SL, 80% of the specimens exhibited favorable fractures; also, 60% of the specimens exhibited favorable fracture in group GR, and only 10% of the specimens exhibited favorable fracture in group IPS. Conclusions The lithium disilicate ceramic endocrowns exhibited higher fracture resistance than indirect composite groups. Both of the composite endocrowns showed more favorable failure than the lithium disilicate ceramic endocrowns.
