Abstract
Vitamin D deficiency and its potential impact on testosterone levels have been subjects of scientific interest. This systematic review aims to evaluate the association between vitamin D deficiency and testosterone levels in adult males and examine the effects of vitamin D supplementation on testosterone. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines across PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. The inclusion criteria involved studies published in English between 2013 and 2023, which investigated the correlation between vitamin D and testosterone levels in adult males. The process of data extraction and synthesis encompassed various aspects, including study characteristics, participant demographics, measurement methods, and outcomes pertaining to the association. The initial search resulted in a pool of 354,235 articles. Through the application of relevant filters and the review of titles and abstracts, 48 articles were chosen for further assessment. Out of these, eight studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were ultimately incorporated into the final review. The included studies consisted of four cross-sectional studies, three randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and one analysis utilizing Mendelian randomization. The results showed heterogeneity among the studies, as some reported a positive correlation between vitamin D levels and testosterone, while others did not find a significant association. The effects of vitamin D supplementation on testosterone levels were inconclusive, with limited evidence of significant changes in total testosterone. However, potential influences on sex hormone-binding globulin and free testosterone levels were observed. To establish more definitive evidence regarding the impact of vitamin D on testosterone levels, there is a need for further well-designed, long-term RCTs that encompass diverse populations.

Abstract
Objective This study seeks to determine the association between vitamin D and testosterone in healthy, adult Filipino males. Methodology This cross-sectional study included 110 healthy, non-obese, male volunteers aged 21-40. History and physical exam were taken, and blood was drawn for vitamin D, total testosterone (TT), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), albumin, insulin, fasting plasma glucose, and total cholesterol. Free testosterone (FT) was calculated. Vitamin D data were classified by status and TT, FT, and SHBG levels compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The associations of vitamin D levels with TT, FT, and SHBG were explored using multiple regression analysis. Results Vitamin D levels were sufficient in 3 (2.7%), insufficient in 17 (15.45%), and deficient in 90 (81.8%) of the sample. There were no significant differences in the mean TT (p = 0.7981), FT (p = 0.8768), nor SHBG (p = 0.1838) across vitamin D status. Vitamin D was not associated with TT nor FT before or after adjustment for age and age plus body mass index (BMI). Vitamin D was associated with SHBG before and after the aforementioned adjustments, but this became insignificant on sensitivity analysis. Conclusion There is no association between vitamin D and TT, FT nor SHBG in our cohort with deficient vitamin D levels.

Abstract
PURPOSE Despite a biological plausibility of a direct link between low vitamin D and androgen deficiency, the association remains inconclusive in epidemiological studies. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis of case-control studies aim to assess whether and in what populations such an association can be demonstrated. METHODS A systematic search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of science, Science Direct, and CINAHL. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in total testosterone (TT) levels between men with 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) <20 and ≥20 ng/mL were combined using random-effects models. Funnel plot and trim-and-fill analysis were used to assess publication bias. Heterogeneity source was explored by a sub-group analysis according to health-related characteristics of the study populations. RESULTS Eighteen included studies collectively gave information on 9892 men with vitamin D deficiency and 10,675 controls. The pooled SMD revealed a slight, albeit just significant, positive association between 25(OH)D and TT (pooled SMD: -0.23, 95% CI: -0.45 to -0.01; P = 0.04) with a large between-study heterogeneity (I2 = 98%, Pfor heterogeneity < 0.00001). At the sub-group analysis, a significant positive association, along with noticeable decrease in heterogeneity, could only be demonstrated in studies of patients with frailty states (pooled SMD: -0.19; 95% CI: -0.27, -0.10, P < 0.0001; I2 = 51%, Pfor heterogeneity = 0.06). A sensitivity analysis revealed a high stability of the result and the trim-and-fill adjustment for publication bias did not affect pooled estimate. CONCLUSIONS Both hypovitaminosis D and androgen deficiency should be regarded as markers of a poor health status, sharing common underlying aetiologies and risk factors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies on seasonal variation in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) have been reported. However, the association between season and BPPV remains controversial; thus, further study is required. OBJECTIVE We analyzed patients with BPPV to evaluate monthly and seasonal variations. METHODS Patients with BPPV seen between 2013 and 2017 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Differences among the months and seasons of BPPV visits were analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups according to age (65 years or older and younger than 65 years) and sex, respectively, and the differences were analyzed in each group. RESULTS There was no significant difference in the monthly or seasonal distribution of BPPV in the 1,216 patients. There was also no significant difference in the monthly or seasonal distribution in the older and younger groups or in male and female patients. CONCLUSIONS There was no significant difference in the monthly or seasonal distribution of patients with BPPV. Additional studies on seasonal variation in BPPV are required in terms of not only vitamin D levels but also other associated factors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The association between vitamin D levels and disease activity has been established in patients with several autoimmune rheumatic diseases. We aimed to examine the association between vitamin D and disease activity of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). METHODS Fifty-four AAV patients and 50 age- and sex-matched healthy controls without vitamin D supplements were included. Clinical and laboratory data were evaluated during the assessment of vitamin D levels. Two different forms of vitamin D in the sera-25(OH)D, which is the sum of 25(OH)D2 and 25(OH)D3, and 25(OH)D3, which only includes 25(OH)D in its D3 form-were measured, and the relationship between vitamin D and the obtained data was assessed. Variations in vitamin D levels relative to the season were also evaluated. RESULTS Patients with AAV demonstrated considerably lower 25(OH)D serum levels than healthy controls (16.0 vs. 20.4 ng/mL, p = 0.016), and the proportion of individuals with vitamin D deficiency was higher in patients with AAV than in healthy controls (68.5% vs. 48.0%, p = 0.035). Both serum 25(OH)D and 25(OH)D3 were positively associated with the 36-item Short-form Health Survey (SF-36) physical component summary and SF-36 mental component summary (MCS) scores. A negative correlation was observed between 25(OH)D and 25(OH)D3 serum levels and Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS), C‑reactive protein (CRP), and white blood cell count. Linear regression analysis indicated haemoglobin and 25(OH)D levels to be independently associated with BVAS and CRP and 25(OH)D levels with SF-36 MCS score. No seasonal variations were observed in vitamin D levels. CONCLUSION The results from this study suggest that vitamin D levels could provide clinically useful information in AAV.

Abstract
Purpose Overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms might be affected by weather, but only a few clinical studies have investigated this issue. We investigated seasonal variations in OAB-drug prescription rate (DPR) in men using nationwide claims data in Korea. Methods A total of 2,824,140 men aged over 18 years were included from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment service – National Patient Sample data between 2012 and 2016. Depending on the monthly average temperature, the seasons were divided into 3 groups, namely, hot (June, July, August, and September), intermediate (April, May, October, and November), and cold (January, February, March, and December) seasons. OAB-DPR was estimated using the claims data, and differences in its rate were examined among the 3 seasonal groups. Results The overall OAB-DPR was 1.97% (55,574 of 2,824,140). The OAB-DPR were 0.38%, 0.63%, 0.92%, 1.74%, 4.18%, 7.55%, and 9.69% in the age groups of under 30, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and over 80 years, respectively; thus, the prescription rate increased with age (P<0.001), with a steeper increase after 60 years of age. OAB-DPR was 1.02% in the hot season, 1.19% in the intermediate season, and 1.27% in the cold season, with significant differences among the 3 seasonal groups (P<0.001). These seasonal variations persisted in the subgroup analysis in each age decade (P<0.001). Conclusions OAB-DPR varied with seasons and was significantly higher in the cold season than in the hot season, suggesting that cold weather may affect development and aggravation of OAB symptoms in men.

Abstract
Vitamin D is a nutrient whose active form affects tissues as a hormone and possibly enhances performance. One plausible mechanism is by increasing testosterone concentration, which is established as an important factor for athletic performance. Therefore the aim of the study was to examine the relationship between plasma concentration of 25(OH)D and testosterone in Polish elite track and field athletes depending on vitamin D status, season, training period, body composition, sex, type of training, sun exposure and vitamin D supplementation. Plasma concentrations of 25(OH)D and testosterone were measured in all seasons within two years in athletes (70 females, 79 males) who represent strength (n = 103) and endurance (n = 46) kinds of sports, in the preparatorycompetitive season and transition period. There were no differences in 25(OH)D concentration between male and female athletes, insufficiency [25(OH)D < 30 ng/ml] was observed in 32.9%, whereas deficiency [25(OH)D < 20 ng/ ml] in 3.2%. Circannual rhythm was noted for vitamin D but not for testosterone concentration; no correlations between them were found either in strength or endurance athletes or between 25(OH)D and body composition. Testosterone concentration was higher in the transition period than in the preparatory-competition period only in male athletes. Higher 25(OH)D was observed in athletes who trained during winter in Africa (higher sun exposure) or used oral supplementation, whereas the respective testosterone levels were unchanged. In athletes, testosterone concentration did not reflect vitamin D status. The widespread of inadequate vitamin D status among athletes, makes it vital to recommend them the regular monitoring of 25(OH)D concentration and use of reasonable supplementation.

Abstract
PURPOSE Colder seasons can aggravate lower urinary tract symptoms, especially an overactive bladder (OAB). This aspect has been extensively studied in men and rarely in women. We investigated whether colder seasons influence OAB-drug prescription rates (OAB-DPRs) in women. METHODS Women aged > 18 years were selected from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Patient Sample data between 2012 and 2016. OAB-DPR was calculated according to age and seasonal groups. The prescription rates in summer (June, July, and August) and winter (January, February, and December) months were compared. Sub-analysis was performed according to age group. RESULTS In total, 3,061,343 adult women were included. The overall OAB-DPR was 3.75% (114,940/3,061,343). Overall OAB-DPRs in summer and winter were 1.41% (43,090/3,061,343) and 1.54% (47,038/3,061,343), respectively (p < 0.001). Seasonal variations in OAB-DPRs differed by age group (p < 0.001): OAB-DPRs were significantly lower in winter than in summer months in women aged < 50 years (odds ratio 0.942; 95% confidence interval 0.918-0.967; p < 0.001), but significantly higher in winter than in summer months in women aged ≥ 50 years (odds ratio 1.153; 95% confidence interval 1.135-1.171; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION In this study, a correlation was noted between OAB-DPR and seasons. OAB-DPRs were higher in the summer in women aged < 50 years and higher in the winter in women aged ≥ 50 years. Our findings suggest that female hormonal status may be involved in the contradictory effect of seasons on OAB symptoms.

Abstract
A rapidly aging population in Korea has led to increased attention in the field of anti-aging medicine. The purpose of anti-aging medicine is to slow, stop, or reverse the aging process and its associated effects, such as disability and frailty. Anti-aging medicine is emerging as a growing industry, but many supplements or protocols are available that do not have scientific evidence to support their claims. In this review, the mechanisms of action and the clinical implications of anti-aging interventions were examined and explained. Calorie restriction mimetics define compounds that imitate the outcome of calorie restriction, including an activator of AMP protein kinase (metformin), inhibitor of growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor-1 axis (pegvisomant), inhibitor of mammalian target of rapamycin (rapamycin), and activator of the sirtuin pathway (resveratrol). Hormonal replacement has also been widely used in the elderly population to improve their quality of life. Manipulating healthy gut microbiota through prebiotic/probiotics or fecal microbiota transplantation has significant potential in anti-aging medicine. Vitamin D is expected to be a primary anti-aging medicine in the near future due to its numerous positive effects in the elderly population.

INTRODUCTION Deficient levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) (<30 ng/mL) may compromise health and athletic performance. Supplementation with oral vitamin D can favor the state of iron metabolism, and testosterone and cortisol as an indicator of muscle recovery of the athlete with a deficiency. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of eight weeks of supplementation with 3000 IU/day of vitamin D on the hematological and iron metabolism profile, as well as on the analytical values of testosterone and cortisol on elite male traditional rowers. The secondary aim was to examine if serum 25(OH)D is a predictor of testosterone and cortisol levels. MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty-six elite male rowers (27 ± 6 years) were assigned to one of the two groups randomly: 1) Control group (CG, n = 18, height: 181.05 ± 3.39 cm and body mass: 77.02 ± 7.55 kg), 2) Group treated with 3,000 IU of vitamin D3/day (VD3G, s = 18, height: 179.70 ± 9.07 cm and body mass: 76.19 ± 10.07 kg). The rowers were subjected to blood tests at the beginning of the study (T1) and after eight weeks of treatment (T2), for the analysis of hematological and hormonal values. Repeated-measures ANOVA with group factor (GC and GVD3) were used to examine if the interaction of the different values was the same or different between the groups throughout the study (time × group) after vitamin D3 treatment. To analyze if 25(OH)D was a good predictor of testosterone, cortisol, and testosterone/cortisol ratio a stepwise regression model was performed. RESULTS Statistically significant and different increases were observed in the group-by-time interaction of 25(OH)D in VD3G in respect to CG during the study (p < 0.001; VD3G (T1: 26.24 ± 8.18 ng/mL vs. T2: 48.12 ± 10.88 ng/mL) vs CG (T1: 30.76 ± 6.95 ng/mL vs. T2: 35.14 ± 7.96 ng/mL). Likewise, significant differences between groups were observed throughout the study in the group-by-time interaction and changes of hemoglobin (GC: -2.89 ± 2.29% vs. VD3G: 0.71 ± 1.91%; p = 0.009), hematocrit (CG: -1.57 ± 2.49% vs. VD3G: 1.16 ± 1.81%; p = 0.019) and transferrin (CG: 0.67 ± 4.88% vs. VD3G: 6.51 ± 4.36%; p = 0.007). However, no differences between groups were observed in the group-by-time interaction of the hormonal parameters (p > 0.05). Regression multivariate analysis showed that cortisol and testosterone levels were associated with 25(OH)D levels (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Oral supplementation with 3000 IU/day of vitamin D3 during eight weeks showed to be sufficient to prevent a decline in hematological levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit, and improve transferrin of 25(OH)D levels. However, although it was not sufficient to enhance muscle recovery observed by testosterone and cortisol responses, it was observed that serum 25(OH)D levels could be a predictor of anabolic and catabolic hormones.
