Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) substantially contributes to poor functional outcomes, loss in productivity, and poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Despite the existence of various scales, there is a notable gap in existing HRQoL reviews with regard to the availability of Arabic validated scales. As a response to this gap, the aim of our scoping review is to identify validated scales, focusing on their psychometric validation procedures, to contribute valuable insights to the understanding of HRQoL among the Arabic-speaking people with PD. METHODS A scoping review was conducted at the end of December 2022, using the Medline and Embase databases. The focus of this review was on examining the psychometric properties and validation procedures of included scales. Articles were included in the full-text screening process if they focused on people with PD of any age, included a scale measuring HRQoL in Arabic, and were written in English, French, or Arabic. RESULTS After applying inclusion/exclusion criteria, 10 studies were selected to analyze HRQoL scales validated in people with PD. However, the PDQ-39 is the only HRQol PD specific scales validated in the Arabic language. Five studies validated in people with PD were identified in the context of instrument validation (3 generic, 1 specific validated in 2 studies). CONCLUSION There are several HRQoL measurement scales for people with PD. However, only one specific HRQoL instrument has been validated in Arabic for people with PD. For the remaining instruments identified they were just used in people with PD without being validated in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We report the psychometric properties of the Patient-Reported Impact of Symptoms in Schizophrenia Scale (PRISS), which assesses the impact of subjective experiences or qualia in outpatients with this condition. METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out in 162 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in Spain. The PRISS measures the presence, frequency, concern and interference with daily life of self-reported experiences related to the main symptoms observed in these patients. The psychometric analysis included test-retest reliability, internal consistency and structural and convergent validity. RESULTS The 28-item PRISS showed good test-retest reliability as 64.3% of the intraclass correlation coefficient values were between 0.40 and 0.79, which were statistically significant (p < 0.01). Analysis of the structural validity revealed a three-factor structure, (1) productive subjective experiences, (2) affective-negative subjective experiences and (3) excitation, which accounted for 56.11% of the variance. Of the Pearson's correlation coefficients analysed between the PRISS and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Scale for Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS) and World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHO-DAS), 72.2% were statistically significant (p < 0.05) and ranged from 0.38-0.42, 0.32-0.42 and 0.40-0.42, respectively. CONCLUSION Our results indicate that the PRISS appears to be a brief, reliable and valid scale to measure subjective experiences in schizophrenia and provides valuable information complementary to clinical evaluation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To translate and linguistically validate the Assessment of Quality of Life 8-dimensions (AQoL-8D) for use in the Netherlands and to compare the psychometric properties of AQoL-8D with the EuroQol 5-dimensions 5-levels (EQ-5D-5L) in two patient samples. METHODS AQoL-8D was translated from English into Dutch. The translated AQoL-8D was then administered alongside the EQ-5D-5L at baseline and follow-up of two Dutch randomized controlled trials among patients with epilepsy and schizophrenia. These data were subjected to a post-hoc analysis assessing the psychometric properties of AQol-8D vis-à-vis EQ-5D-5L in terms of known-groups construct validity, responsiveness, and floor/ceiling effects. RESULTS In total, 103 epilepsy patients and 99 schizophrenia patients were included in this study. In both datasets, the two instruments discriminated between known-groups, but in schizophrenia, AQoL-8D showed higher responsiveness than EQ-5D-5L, while both instruments showed equal responsiveness in epilepsy. Ceiling effects were only found for EQ-5D-5L in both epilepsy (26.6%) and schizophrenia (6.1%). CONCLUSION Our results have shown that, among other things, AQoL-8D presents better ability to discriminate between known-groups and shows no ceiling effect. Based on our results, we would recommend the use of AQoL-8D in addition to EQ-5D-5L in trials assessing patient's quality of life in patients with epilepsy or schizophrenia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Evidence is lacking with regard to the most suitable instrument for measuring quality of life (QOL) in patients with schizophrenia. The researchers carried out a methodological review of literature pertaining to scales used to measure QOL in this population. METHODS Twenty-eight studies, assessing nine different QOL scales, were reviewed using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist. RESULTS While the content of most scales proved valid, the Lancashire Quality of Life Profile (LQOLP), Self-Report Quality of Life Scale (SQOL), and Quality of Life in Schizophrenia (QLiS) outscored the other scales in almost every other domain measured by COSMIN. CONCLUSION LQOLP and SQOL stand out among QOL scales for patients with schizophrenia, but further evidence is required to verify this finding, and no one scale appears ideal for all patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A number of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) have been developed but insufficient attention has been devoted to the assessment of their clinimetric properties. Clinimetrics, the science of clinical measurements, has been considered an emerging approach for evaluating reliability and validity of PROs. This is the first study using clinimetric principles to compare the construct and criterion validity of the Major Depression Inventory (MDI), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), the World Health Organization Well-Being Index (WHO-5), three of the most widely used PROs for the assessment of depression. METHODS Construct validity was evaluated via Item Response Theory (IRT) models (i.e., combining Rasch and Mokken analyses). Using the ICD-10 diagnostic algorithm for any depression as the gold standard, Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were performed to examine the criterion validity of PROs. RESULTS One hundred healthy subjects (73% females, 32.6 ± 10.5 years) participated in the study, giving a response rate of 90.1%. When using IRT analyses, MDI and WHO-5 were found to be reliable and unidimensional, while BDI-II showed lack of unidimensionality. ROC analyses supported the diagnostic accuracy of MDI and the screening properties of WHO-5. LIMITATIONS The main limitations of the present study are that healthy subjects were assessed only via only self-reported measures and a cross-sectional design was used. CONCLUSIONS WHO-5 and MDI outperformed BDI-II in terms of construct and criterion validity. WHO-5 should be considered when screening for depression, while MDI should be used as a valid diagnostic instrument and as a unidimensional measure to assess depression severity.

Abstract
Background: Schizophrenia negative symptoms (SNS) contribute substantially to poor functional outcomes, loss in productivity and poor quality of life. It is unclear which instruments may be used for assessing quality of life in patients with SNS. Objective: The objective of this review was to identify instruments assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) validated in patients with SNS and to assess their level of validation. Data sources: We conducted a systematic literature review in Medline and the ISPOR database in March 2016 to identify studies on the quality of life in patients with SNS published by March 2016. Data extraction: Psychometric properties and validation steps. Data synthesis: After applying inclusion/exclusion criteria, 49 studies were selected for the analysis of HRQoL instruments; however, none of these instruments only addressed patients with SNS. Of these, 19 HRQoL instruments used in patients with schizophrenia or including patients with SNS among others, in the context of instrument validation, were identified (4 generic, 10 non-specific mental health, 5 schizophrenia-specific). Conclusion: No HRQoL instrument has been validated in patients with SNS only; for the remaining instruments identified, it remains unclear whether they were intended to capture HRQoL in patients with SNS.

Abstract
This study aims to describe generic and disease-specific quality of life (QOL) and its predictors among Chinese inpatients with schizophrenia. A total of 209 subjects participated in this study: 121 men and 88 women. Their ages ranged from 18 to 64, with a mean age of 33.85 (S.D.=10.84). The total scores of generic and disease-specific QOL were statistically significant, correlated with patients׳ total symptom severity scores and social support scores (all P values less than 0.01). Multiple regression analysis revealed that monthly household income and subjective social support were statistically significant predictors of generic and disease-specific QOL. Duration of hospitalization, support use degree, negative and general psychopathology symptoms were additional significant predictors of disease-specific QOL. This study suggests the importance of improving subjective social support in order to promote generic and disease-specific QOL. Controlling negative and general psychopathology symptoms and improving support use degree could additionally enhance the disease-specific QOL in patients with schizophrenia.
