Abstract
PURPOSE To determine whether the prevalence in American demographic and resultant adverse obstetric outcomes changed in women with polycystic ovary syndrome between the years of 2004-2014 inclusively, based on data derived from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Nationwide Inpatient Sample (HCUP-NIS) database. METHODS This is a retrospective population-based study using data derived from the HCUP-NIS database from the years of 2004-2014, inclusively. Within this group, all pregnancies to women with PCOS were identified and separated by year, creating 11 groups. RESULTS Risk factors including non-Caucasian race, lower socioeconomic status, and rates of obesity and thyroid disease increased over time. The rates of gestational diabetes mellitus demonstrated a slight decrease, (21.3% in 2004 to 18.0% in 2014, P = 0.01). The number of women with preterm premature rupture of membranes decreased from 3.0% in 2004 to 2.0% in 2014 (P = 0.04). Rates of preterm delivery decreased from 14.8% in 2004 to 9.8% in 2014 (P < 0.001). Rates of cesarean section decreased from 57.3% in 2004 to 45.7% in 2014 (P < 0.001), while rates of spontaneous vaginal delivery increased from 37.4% in 2004 to 50.1% in 2014 (P < 0.001). The rate of wound complications decreased from 2.1% in 2004 to 0.4% in 2014 (P < 0.001). However, the rate of congenital anomalies increased from 0.5% in 2004 to 1.2% in 2014 (P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS In spite of increases in demographic risk factors associated with increased pregnancy complications, we hypothesize that the interventions made to minimize the risks of cesarean section and manage metabolic complications in women with PCOS during the period of study have resulted in improved pregnancy outcomes during the period of study.

Abstract
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Autoimmune Thyroiditis (AIT) are two prevalent endocrine disorders affecting women, often coexisting within the same patient population. This meta-analysis aims to systematically assess and synthesize the existing body of literature to elucidate the intricate relationship between PCOS and AIT. A systematic literature search for relevant observational studies was conducted in electronic databases such as Web of Science, Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane, and Scopus until March 2023. All Statistical analyses were performed using CMA Software v3.7 in a random-effects network meta-analysis. In addition, sensitivity and meta-regression analyses were conducted to identify sources of Heterogeneity based on related risk factors. Our meta-analysis included eighteen studies with 3657 participants, which revealed significant differences between PCOS patients and control groups. In particular, a considerable association was detected between PCOS and the presence of AIT (OR = 2.38; 95% CI: 1.63-3.49; P< 0.001) and elevated levels of TSH (SMD = 0.24; 95% CI: 0.06-0.42; P= 0.01), anti-TPO (SMD = 0.36; 95% CI: 0.19-0.53; P< 0.001), anti-TG (SMD = 1.24; 95% CI: 0.37-2.10; P< 0.001), and other positive serum antibodies compared to the control groups. The findings from this meta-analysis may contribute to enhanced diagnostic strategies like complete thyroid function tests, more targeted interventions, and improved patient care for individuals presenting with both PCOS and AIT. Additionally, identifying commonalities between these conditions may pave the way for future research directions, guiding the development of novel therapeutic approaches that address the interconnected nature of PCOS and AIT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There has been some confusion in earlier research on the connection between thyroid function and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This research is aimed to probe into the correlation between thyroid condition and the risk of PCOS from a new standpoint of thyroid hormone sensitivity. METHODS This research comprised 415 females with PCOS from Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated with the Medical School of Nanjing University, and 137 non-PCOS individuals were selected as the normal control. Based on free thyroxine (FT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), we calculated the thyroid hormone sensitivity indices, which consist of Thyroid Feedback Quantile-based Index (TFQI), Thyroid-stimulating Hormone Index (TSHI), Thyrotroph Thyroxine Resistance Index (TT4RI) and Free Triiodothyronine /Free thyroxine (FT3/FT4). The binary logistic regression model was adopted to investigate the correlation between thyroid hormone sensitivity indices with the risk of PCOS. Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis was employed to explore the association among thyroid-related measures with metabolic parameters in PCOS. RESULTS Results of this research showed that females with PCOS had rising TFQI, TSHI, TT4RI, and FT3/FT4 levels compared with the control group. After adjustment for the impact of various covariates, there was no significant correlation between FT3/FT4 and the risk of PCOS; However, the odds ratio of the third and fourth vs. the first quartile of TFQI were 3.57(95% confidence interval [CI]:1.08,11.87) and 4.90(95% CI:1.38,17.38) respectively; The odds ratio of the fourth vs. the first quartile of TSHI was 5.35(95% CI:1.48,19.37); The odds ratio of the second vs. the first quartile of TT4RI was 0.27(95%CI 0.09,0.82). In addition, no significant correlation was observed between thyroid-related measures and metabolic measures in females with PCOS. CONCLUSIONS A reduction in the sensitivity of central thyroid hormone is closely correlated with a higher risk of PCOS. Further research is necessary to corroborate our findings and the supporting mechanisms.

Abstract
Endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are common gynecological disorders that constitute a significant burden of disease in women of fertile age. The disorders share a link to female reproduction and infertility; however, divergent effects on menstrual cycle, related hormones, and body composition have been proposed. Disorders of the thyroid gland including abnormal thyroid dysfunction (hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism) and/or markers of thyroid autoimmunity similarly show a female predominance and onset in younger age groups. We reviewed the literature on the association between endometriosis, PCOS, and thyroid disease up until July 1, 2023, and identified 8 original studies on endometriosis and thyroid disease and 30 original studies on PCOS and thyroid disease. The studies were observational and heterogeneous regarding the design, sample size, and definitions of exposure and outcome; however, a tendency was seen toward an association between hyperthyroidism and endometriosis. Especially an association between endometriosis and slightly elevated levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibodies has been found and corroborated in studies from different populations. On the other hand, the literature review turned a focus toward an association between hypothyroidism and PCOS, however, with uncertainties as to whether the association is caused by hypothyroidism per se and/or the thyroid autoantibodies (thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies). More evidence is needed to substantiate an association between endometriosis, PCOS, and thyroid disease, and to differentiate between the role of thyroid function and thyroid autoimmunity. Furthermore, studies are warranted to extend knowledge on the different disease characteristics and underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine and metabolic disease in women of childbearing age and can cause metabolic disorder, infertility, and increased anxiety and depression; as a result, it can seriously affect the physical and mental health of fertile women. PCOS is a highly clinically heterogeneous disease with unclear etiology and pathogenesis, which increases the difficulty of treatment. The thyroid gland has complex regulatory effects on metabolism, reproduction, and emotion, and produces hormones that act on almost all cells of the human body. The clinical manifestations of PCOS are similar to some thyroid diseases. Furthermore, some thyroid diseases, such as subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH), not only increase the incidence rate of PCOS, but also exacerbate its associated metabolic abnormalities and reproductive disorders. Interestingly, PCOS also increases the incidence of some thyroid diseases. However, the role of the thyroid in PCOS remains unclear. This review is intended to thoroughly explore the critical role of the thyroid in PCOS by summarizing the comorbidity of PCOS and thyroid diseases and their combined role in metabolic disorders, related metabolic diseases, and reproductive disorders; and by analyzing the potential mechanism through which the thyroid influences the development and progression of PCOS and its symptoms. We hope this review will provide a valuable reference for the role of the thyroid in PCOS.

Abstract
Despite solid evidence regarding the association of over-hypothyroidism with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the relationship between PCOS and subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is still a topic of debate. In the present population-based study, we aimed to assess if there is a difference between PCOS and the control group regarding the upper reference limit of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). We also aimed to identify the prevalence of SCH in women with PCOS compared to controls. This study was conducted on data collected in the Iranian PCOS prevalence study and the Khuzestan PCOS prevalence study. Participants that met our eligibility criteria were categorized into two groups: PCOS (n = 207) and control (n = 644). Quantile and logistic regression models were used to explore the effect of PCOS status on TSH cut-off values and SCH, respectively. The 95 percentiles of TSH were not significantly different in the PCOS group compared to control ones (6.12 and 6.56 microU/mL, respectively). There was no statistically significant association between PCOS status and SCH (OR adjusted: 1.40; 95%CI: 0.79, 2.50; p = 0.2). The prevalence of SCH and the upper reference limit of TSH were not significantly different in PCOS and controls. Investigation of SCH in women with PCOS might be questionable.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) among euthyroid prepubertal girls presenting with premature adrenarche (PA). We also aimed to identify the clinical, metabolic, and endocrine profile of girls with AT and concurrent PA and compare them to girls with AT without PA, PA alone and healthy controls. Methods Ninety-one prepubertal girls aged 5-10 years, who attended our department for AT, PA and normal variants of growth and puberty were recruited for the study: 73 girls had PA, 6 AT without PA and 12 were referred for investigation of growth. All girls underwent clinical examination, detailed biochemical and hormonal screen. Standard dose Synachten stimulation test (SDSST) and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were performed in all girls with PA. The whole study population was divided in 4 groups: Group PA-/AT+ included 6 girls with AT without PA; Group PA+/AT- PA subjects without AT; Group PA+/AT+ girls with PA and concomitant AT; Group PA-/AT- twelve healthy girls without PA nor AT (controls). Results Among 73 girls presenting with PA 19 had AT (26%). BMI, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and the presence of goiter significantly differed between the four groups (p = 0.016, p = 0.022 and p < 0.001, respectively). When comparing hormonal parameters among the four groups significant differences were found in leptin (p = 0.007), TSH (p = 0.044), anti-TPO (p = 0.002), anti-TG (p = 0.044), IGF-BP1 (p = 0.006), Δ4-Α (p = 0.01), DHEA-S (p = <0.001), IGF-1 (p = 0.012) and IGF-BP3 (p = 0.049) levels. TSH levels were significantly higher in Group PA+/AT+ compared to PA+/AT- and PA-/AT- (p = 0.043 and p = 0.016, respectively). Moreover, girls with AT (Groups PA-/AT+ and PA+/AT+) had higher TSH levels than those in Group PA+/AT- (p = 0.025). Girls in Group PA+/AT + showed higher cortisol response at 60 min post-SDSST than girls in Group PA+/AT- (p = 0.035). During the OGTT, insulin concentrations at 60 min were significantly higher in Group PA+/AT + compared to Group PA+/AT- (p = 0.042). Conclusion A high frequency of AT among euthyroid prepubertal girls with PA was observed. The combination of PA with AT even in euthyroid state may be associated with a greater degree of insulin resistance, than PA alone.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A growing body of research suggests that patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may be at increased risk of developing Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), and having both conditions can make the condition worse. However, current research views are not uniform. Therefore, to explore the link between PCOS and HT, we conducted this study. METHODS From the establishment of the database to August 2022, we searched 2 databases to study the correlation between Hashimoto's and polycystic ovary syndrome. Two authors independently screened the articles for eligibility, and three authors extracted relevant data. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA16.0 software. RESULTS A total of 20 studies were included, including 7 case-control studies and 13 cross-sectional studies. A total of 13 countries and 7857 participants were embraced. Studies have demonstrated that both PCOS patients have an increased risk of HT, and meanwhile, HT patients also have an increased risk of PCOS compared with controls. The study also incorporated that the prevalence of HT in PCOS patients in India and Turkey was higher than in other countries, and the prevalence of HT in PCOS patients in South America was higher than in Asia and Europe. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, our study illustrates that there is a correlation between PCOS and HT, and it is necessary to further study the underlying mechanism between PCOS and HT. At the same time, it is of great significance to regularly screen PCOS patients for HT risk and HT patients for PCOS risk. Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) are endocrine disorders that commonly occur among young women. A higher prevalence of HT in women with PCOS, relative to healthy individuals, is observed consistently. Combined occurrence of both diseases is associated with a higher risk of severe metabolic and reproductive complications. Genetic factors strongly impact the pathogenesis of both PCOS and HT and several susceptibility loci associated with a higher risk of both disorders have been identified. Furthermore, some candidate gene polymorphisms are thought to be functionally relevant; however, few genetic variants are proposed to be causally associated with the incidence of both disorders together.

Abstract
Several studies deal with learning causes stipulating nodular formations in the thyroid tissue, including those occurring against the ground of metabolic disorders of thyroid hormones. Our study’s objective was to determine the peculiarities of thyroid homeostasis disorders in patients suffering from benign nodular thyroid pathology with relapses of the disease and its relapse-free course. For this purpose, 96 female patients suffering from nodular thyroid pathology and 20 without thyroid pathology were examined. In the course of the study, the following were found in patients with benign focal thyroid pathology: disorders of the peripheral conversion of the thyroid hormones, compensatory activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary system evident in increased levels of the thyroid-stimulating hormone, ТSH/fT3 and ТSH/fT4 ratios, increasing titers of the anti-thyroid antibodies which can be hazardous for the risk of development of nodules or reflects the process of thyroid tissue damage; high level of thyroglobulin caused by an increased probability of relapse and rate of nodule growth, an increase of the thyroid gland volume associated with activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary system, increased antibodies titer and thyroid gland damage. Thus, changes of the examined indices in the blood can be used as prognostic markers concerning the relapse of nodule formation in the thyroid tissue.

Abstract
Background Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) is a common organ‐specific autoimmune disorder, and genetic, environmental, and endogenous factors are responsible for initiation of thyroid autoimmunity. Some AITD patients suffer from a certain degree of glucose‐lipid metabolism disorder. This study aims to explore the changes in glucose‐lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and inflammatory factors in patients with AITD. Methods A total of 91 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were retrospectively analyzed and divided into hypothyroidism group (n = 42) and normal thyroid group (n = 49), while 50 healthy people were selected as control group. The changes in glucose‐lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and inflammatory factors in each group were compared, and their correlations with the thyroid function were analyzed. Results The levels of serum interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α), IL‐12, IL‐10, (FINS), and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA‐IR) were gradually declined in sequence of hypothyroidism group, normal thyroid group, and control group (P < 0.05). In hypothyroidism group, the levels of serum‐free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), (TC), triglyceride (TG), and low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) were significantly lower than those in normal thyroid group (P < 0.05), while the level of serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) was significantly higher than that in normal thyroid group (P < 0.05). However, the fasting blood glucose and 2‐hour postprandial blood glucose levels had no statistically significant differences among the three groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Autoimmune thyroid disease patients are prone to fat metabolism disorder, and the serum thyroid hormone level has a close correlation with blood lipid metabolism, insulin metabolism, and inflammatory factors.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most prevalent endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age. PCOS has been associated with distinct metabolic and cardiovascular diseases and with autoimmune conditions, predominantly autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD). AITD has been reported in 18-40% of PCOS women, depending on PCOS diagnostic criteria and ethnicity. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to summarize the available evidence regarding the likelihood of women with PCOS also having AITD in comparison to a reference group of non-PCOS women. We systematically searched EMBASE and MEDLINE for non-interventional case control, cross-sectional, or cohort studies published until August 2017. The Ottawa-Newcastle Scale was used to assess the methodological quality of studies. Statistical meta-analysis was performed with R. Thirteen studies were selected for the present analysis, including 1,210 women diagnosed with PCOS and 987 healthy controls. AITD was observed in 26.03% and 9.72% of PCOS and control groups respectively. A significant association was detected between PCOS and chance of AITD (OR= 3.27, 95%CI 2.32-4.63). Notably, after geographical stratification, the higher risk of AITD in PCOS women persisted for Asians (OR= 4.56, 95%CI 2.47-8.43), Europeans (OR= 3.27, 95%CI 2.07-5.15), and South Americans (OR= 1.86, 95 %CI 1.05-3.29). AIDT is a frequent condition in PCOS patients, and might affect thyroid function. Thus, screening for thyroid function and thyroid-specific autoantibodies should be considered in patients with PCOS even in the absence of overt symptoms. Abstract
Objective: Thyroid hormone abnormalities are commonly seen in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and have considerable effects on comorbidities. The association with PCOS and thyroid autoimmunity which lead to thyroid pathologies are not revealed clearly. We targeted to commentate anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO), anti-thyroglobulin (anti-TG) antibody levels and thyroid autoimmunity in PCOS. Material and Methods: One hundred eighty four patients who got the diagnosis of PCOS regard to the revised 2003 Rotterdam criteria were embodied in this study. One hundred six age-matched female volunteers were included in the control group. Characteristics, biochemical parameters, thyroid hormone and autoantibody levels of groups were investigated. Results: Although; we did not find out a statistically significant difference in TSH and sT4 levels between two groups (p>0.05), anti-TPO and anti-TG antibody levels were determined higher in PCOS group significantly (p<0.001). Anti-TPO Ab and anti-TG Ab positivity prevalence of PCOS patients were significantly higher as against to controls (p<0.001; p=0.01). Conclusion: Not only thyroid hormone levels but also thyroid autoantibody levels should be screened during the investigation of PCOS and the patients with positive results need to be followed up carefully in the long run.
