Abstract
OBJECTIVE A privately owned, 4-year-old female Showa koi (ornamental variant of Common Carp Cyprinus carpio) was presented for erratic swimming, air gasping, water spitting, and abnormal orientation in the water column. Initial physical examination revealed an obese patient with no external abnormalities except a small plaque localized to filaments on a right gill hemibranch. METHODS The fish was anesthetized using AQUI-S 20E (10% eugenol solution) at 50 mg/L to facilitate diagnostic evaluation. Biopsy of the gill lesion yielded no significant findings. Whole-body computed tomography confirmed an excess of adipose tissue and mild scoliosis, with narrowing of the 10th-11th intervertebral space. A weight loss plan and need for repeat assessment were recommended. RESULT The patient's original abnormal behaviors resolved over the following weeks, but it subsequently became hyporexic and depressed. Full-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed extensive alteration of vertebral centra, with multifocal compression of the spinal cord. Due to the patient's declining clinical condition and the grave prognosis based on MRI findings, the patient was humanely euthanized. CONCLUSION Postmortem examination showed severe transmural myelomalacia associated with a vertebral subluxation. This case demonstrates the practical application of advanced cross-sectional imaging that has not been commonly afforded to fish or other lower vertebrates.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess whether the volume of extruded materials is correlated with neurologic severity in dogs with type I thoracolumbar intervertebral disk herniation (TL-IVDH). ANIMALS 70 client-owned small-breed dogs with type I TL-IVDH diagnosed between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2018. PROCEDURES For this retrospective cohort study, the medical records of 70 dogs with surgically confirmed type I TL-IVDH were reviewed. The volume and height of the intervertebral disk and the area of the maximal transverse compressed spinal cord were measured using CT myelographic images. For each dog, the volume of the disk immediately cranial to the herniated disk was an internal control. Dogs were grouped on the basis of grade of neurologic severity. RESULTS Preoperative grades of neurologic severity were grade 2 in 7 (10%) dogs, grade 3 in 16 (23%) dogs, grade 4 in 28 (40%) dogs, and grade 5 in 19 (27%) dogs. The total volume of the affected intervertebral disks was significantly larger than the internal control. Weak positive correlation was found between the volume of the extruded materials into the vertebral canal and the grade of neurologic severity. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Our findings indicated that the total volume of the affected intervertebral disks is larger in dogs with type I TL-IVDH, and the volume of the extruded materials into the vertebral canal is weakly correlated with the neurologic severity.

Abstract
Radiography and ultrasonography are the most used techniques in veterinary clinical practice, due to organizational, managerial and, mostly, economic reasons. However, in the last decades, Computed tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and, to a lesser extent, Nuclear Medicine (MN) are increasingly used. As we said in the previous article, all the Diagnostic Imaging techniques are actually "indispensable" in Veterinary Medicine, where many patients do not show any symptoms.This second part describes Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance (MRI) and Nuclear Medicine techniques in Veterinary Medicine are described.

Abstract
A ten-week-old male Golden retriever puppy was presented with severe hyperesthesia, mild neurological deficits and episcleral bleeding. Clotting times showed a normal prothrombin time (PT) and prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (aPPT). Computed tomography (CT) of the vertebral column showed intradural, extraparenchymal hyperattenuating changes on precontrast CT images and epidural mass lesions, suggestive of hematorrhachis. Hemophilia A was confirmed by a low-factor VIII activity (FVIII:C). Although the dog improved clinically with intravenous analgesia and cage rest, it was euthanized by the owners’ choice because of the risk of developing future episodes of spontaneous hemorrhage. In young male puppies with severe hyperesthesia and mild neurological deficits, hemophilia A should be considered as a possible differential diagnosis.

Abstract
Porcine models of spinal cord injury (SCI) have an irreplaceable role in the development of experimental therapies. There is little literature regarding CT myelogram (CTM) techniques in swine and morphometry in miniature swine has not been established. A CT-guided method for performing myelography as well as reference values for spinal morphometry in healthy Yucatan miniature swine is lacking. The goal of this study is to describe a CT-guided method of performing CTM in a porcine model of SCI and to establish spinal morphometric reference values in mature Yucatan pigs. Six healthy, Yucatan sows, 9 months of age, weighing between 39–57.7kg, with no history of spinal disease, spinal injury, or neurologic deficits on physical exam were used in this study. CT myelography was performed in each sow under general anesthesia. CT scout images were used to guide needle placement at the L3-L4 intervertebral site. Once correct needle placement was confirmed using a 1ml test injection, a full dose of iodinated contrast (0.3ml/kg) was injected slowly over a 2-minute time period. Morphometry was performed using area measurements of the spinal cord (SC), vertebral body (VB), dural sac (DS), and vertebral canal (VC) at the mid-body and the intervertebral disc space of each spinal segment. Of the quantitative measurements, the spinal cord surface area had the widest range of values and the greatest coefficient of variance (CV) while those parameters for the vertebral canal had a low CV. Of the morphometric ratios, the DS:VC, had the lowest CV while the spinal cord ratios to DS and VC had the highest (>30). The vertebral canal surface area and the dural space: vertebral canal ratio may serve as reference values in future studies using this animal model.

Abstract
Spinal subarachnoid diverticula are fluid dilations of the subarachnoid space that can cause a compressive myelopathy in dogs. These diverticula are usually associated with high motion areas in the cervical and caudal thoracic spine. The definitive etiopathogenesis has not been determined but likely involves congenital or acquired causes. Pugs, French bulldogs, and Rottweilers are overrepresented breeds. Clinical signs typically include ataxia, paresis, and upper motor neuron urinary and/or fecal incontinence; pain is a less common feature. Diagnosis is based on advanced imaging, with magnetic resonance imaging now being favored given the additional detail of the spinal cord parenchyma that can be obtained. Outcomes are better with surgical intervention than with medical therapies, though there is a lack of long-term data. No superior surgical technique has been identified, and questions remain on the significance of addressing leptomeningeal adhesions at the time of surgery. Clinical signs can recur, though not always due to recurrence of diverticulum formation, and pugs may be less likely to have a successful long-term outcome.

Abstract
Imaging is integral in the diagnosis of canine intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and in differentiating subtypes of intervertebral disc herniation (IVDH). These include intervertebral disc extrusion (IVDE), intervertebral disc protrusion (IVDP) and more recently recognized forms such as acute non-compressive nucleus pulposus extrusion (ANNPE), hydrated nucleus pulposus extrusion (HNPE), and intradural/intramedullary intervertebral disc extrusion (IIVDE). Many imaging techniques have been described in dogs with roles for survey radiographs, myelography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Given how common IVDH is in dogs, a thorough understanding of the indications and limitations for each imaging modality to aid in diagnosis, treatment planning and prognosis is essential to successful case management. While radiographs can provide useful information, especially for identifying intervertebral disc degeneration or calcification, there are notable limitations. Myelography addresses some of the constraints of survey radiographs but has largely been supplanted by cross-sectional imaging. Computed tomography with or without myelography and MRI is currently utilized most widely and have become the focus of most contemporary studies on this subject. Novel advanced imaging applications are being explored in dogs but are not yet routinely performed in clinical patients. The following review will provide a comprehensive overview on common imaging modalities reported to aid in the diagnosis of IVDH including IVDE, IVDP, ANNPE, HNPE, and IIVDE. The review focuses primarily on canine IVDH due to its frequency and vast literature as opposed to feline IVDH.
