Middle phalangeal distal condylar fracture remodelling in children: a case report

We report on a 9-year-old girl who sustained an injury to her left middle finger with a piece of metal 2 months before she presented to our clinic. In the acute trauma phase she applied ice to her hand and did not consult a medical practitioner about the pain and swelling on her finger. Two months after the injury she came to us with a palpable mass on the volar side of middle phalanx. On lateral radiographic view, an apex volar angulation measuring approximately 45 degrees of vertically splitting midphalangeal fracture was noted. Bone remodelling was also seen dorsally extending from the midphalanx to the level of the DIP joint. During the operation the remodelled bone seemed to be in unity with the DIP joint. The apex volarly angulated distal fragment of the middle phalanx was osteotomized. In the postoperative 24 months a control radiologic view was obtained. Normal phalangeal alignment was noted.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitory activities of novel 3,4-dihydroquinolin-(1H)-2-one derivatives

Three 3,4-dihydroquinoline-(1H)-2-one derivatives were synthesized and their monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitory activities were evaluated. The calculated IC(50) values revealed that compound Q (N-amino-3,4-dihydroquinoline-(1H)-2-one), which carries a free amine group in the molecule, inhibited rat liver MAO-B competitively and reversibly suggesting that this relatively small compound may interact with the active site channel of the enzyme while the compounds QB (1-(benzlyden-amino)-3,4-dihydroquinoline-(1H)-2-one), PCN (2-(3-cyano-2-oxo-4-phenyl-2H-quinolin-1-yl-N-cyclohexyl-2-(4'-chlorophenyl) acetamide) and MG (tert-butyl-N-[cyclohexylcarbamoyl-(3-hydroxyphenyl)methyl]-N-(2-benzoylphenyl)-carbamate) inhibited rat liver MAO-B non-competitively and irreversibly, suggesting that these compounds may interact with another hydrophobic binding region outside of the active site of the enzyme.

Interaction of rat lung SSAO with the novel 1-N-substituted thiocarbamoyl-3-substituted phenyl-5-(2-pyrolyl)-2-pyrazoline derivatives

Interactions of twelve new synthesized 1-N-substituted thiocarbamoyl-3-substituted phenyl-5-pyrolyl-2-pyrazoline derivatives with rat lung semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) were assessed. Pyrazoline derivatives were synthesized according to previous methods and SSAO was purified from the crude microsomal fractions of rat lung.Three compounds (3e, 3f, 3k) with a p-methoxy group at the phenyl ring inhibited rat lung SSAO non-competitively and irreversibly, and showed higher affinity towards SSAO when expressed in terms of IC(50) for SSAO/Monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B). Since these novel pyrazoline derivatives have been found to act as suicide inhibitors of SSAO, the semicarbazide group in these molecules may be responsible for the SSAO inhibitory action. It is suggested that these compounds cannot enter the first small active site cavity of SSAO and may interact tightly with another binding site or with some other reactive groups present in the molecule. Compound 3e showed the highest inhibitory activity on rat lung SSAO. The novel pyrazoline derivatives may be used to discriminate between Cu- and FAD-containing amine oxidases and may have promising features as anti-Parkinson agents if the SSAO-inhibitory effects can be supported by in vivo studies.

Fungal metabolites. IX. Synthesis of a membrane-modifying peptide, hypelcin A-III, from Hypocrea peltata

A membrane-modifying peptide antibiotic having uncoupling activity on rat liver mitochondria, hypelcin A-III, has been synthesized by assembling five peptide fragments via the N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide method. The synthesized hypelcin A-III was identical with the natural product.

Synthesis and antidepressant activity of some new 8-thiocarbamoyl-7,8-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-6-ene derivatives

Several 8-thiocarbamoyl-7,8-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-6-enes were prepared by condensing two alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones (2-benzylidene and 2,6-dibenzylidene cyclohexanones) with hydrazine hydrate and reacting the resulting compounds with various isothiocyanates. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectra (IR, 1H-NMR) and microanalysis; they were tested for antidepressant activity using Porsolt's behavioural despair test.

Synthesis and pharmacology of some new carbamodithioic acid esters

In this study 13 new dithiocarbamates were prepared by reacting 3-methyl-6-chloroacetyl-benzoxazolinone with potassium N,N-disubstituted dithiocarbamate derivatives. The structures of the compounds were confirmed by UV, IR, 1H-NMR, mass spectroscopic methods and elementary analysis. The anticholinergic activity was tested on rabbit ileum. With exception of one compound all derivatives exhibited a stronger antihistaminic activity as compared with their anticholinergic action.
