Abstract
Underground coal gasification (UCG) is a promising technology, but the groundwater pollution caused by UCG is a potential risk to the environment. The measured results of the stratum in the combustion cavity resulting from UCG had proven that the combustion cavity would be filled with some UCG residues and caving rocks when UCG was finished. The pollutants in underground water around the combustion cavity include organic pollutants, inorganic pollutants, and ammonia nitrogen, and one of the primary organic pollutants is phenol. The migration and diffusion characteristics of organic pollutants (taking phenol as a representative) in the groundwater of the combustion cavity were investigated by breakthrough experiments and numerical simulations. The results show that the hydraulic conductivity of the coarse UCG residues is much higher than that of fine residues, and the hydraulic conductivity of the UCG residues with the size of - 0.15 mm and 0.15-0.3 mm are 4.68 × 10-6 m/s and 1.91 × 10-4 m/s respectively. The dispersivity λ for the migration of organic pollutants will be influenced significantly by the size of UCG residues in fractures of the combustion cavity, while the distribution coefficient Kd will not. The dispersivity of organic pollutants in the fine UCG residues is more significant than that in the coarse residues, and the λ for the two kinds of residues are 3.868 cm and 1.765 cm, respectively. The shape of the migration path slightly affects the pollutant concentration distribution along the path, but the width of a path has a more pronounced influence on the concentration distribution. In this research, the influence was formulated by a new technical term, MPWIT, which is related to transverse dispersion. Specifically, while the transverse dispersion values account for 20% and 10% of the longitudinal dispersion, respectively, the corresponding MPWIT values are 39.48 mm and 33.96 mm.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the immunogenicity, safety, and immune persistence of the sequential booster with the recombinant protein-based COVID-19 vaccine (CHO cell) in healthy people aged 18-84 years. Methods: An open-label, multi-center trial was conducted in October 2021. The eligible healthy individuals, aged 18-84 years who had completed primary immunization with the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine 3 to 9 months before, were recruited from Shangyu district of Shaoxing and Kaihua county of Quzhou, Zhejiang province. All participants were divided into three groups based on the differences in prime-boost intervals: Group A (3-4 months), Group B (5-6 months) and Group C (7-9 months), with 320 persons per group. All participants received the recombinant COVID-19 vaccine (CHO cell). Blood samples were collected before the vaccination and after receiving the booster at 14 days, 30 days, and 180 days for analysis of GMTs, antibody positivity rates, and seroconversion rates. All adverse events were collected within one month and serious adverse events were collected within six months. The incidences of adverse reactions were analyzed after the booster. Results: The age of 960 participants was (52.3±11.5) years old, and 47.4% were males (455). The GMTs of Groups B and C were 65.26 (54.51-78.12) and 60.97 (50.61-73.45) at 14 days after the booster, both higher than Group A's 44.79 (36.94-54.30) (P value<0.05). The GMTs of Groups B and C were 23.95 (20.18-28.42) and 27.98 (23.45-33.39) at 30 days after the booster, both higher than Group A's 15.71 (13.24-18.63) (P value <0.05). At 14 days after the booster, the antibody positivity rates in Groups A, B, and C were 91.69% (276/301), 94.38% (302/320), and 93.95% (295/314), respectively. The seroconversion rates in the three groups were 90.37% (272/301), 93.75% (300/320), and 93.31% (293/314), respectively. There was no significant difference among these rates in the three groups (all P values >0.05). At 30 days after the booster, antibody positivity rates in Groups A, B, and C were 79.60% (238/299), 87.74% (279/318), and 90.48% (285/315), respectively. The seroconversion rates in the three groups were 76.92% (230/299), 85.85% (273/318), and 88.25% (278/315), respectively. There was a significant difference among these rates in the three groups (all P values <0.001). During the sequential booster immunization, the incidence of adverse events in 960 participants was 15.31% (147/960), with rates of about 14.38% (46/320), 17.50% (56/320), and 14.06% (45/320) in Groups A, B, and C, respectively. The incidence of adverse reactions was 8.02% (77/960), with rates of about 7.50% (24/320), 6.88% (22/320), and 9.69% (31/320) in Groups A, B, and C, respectively. No serious adverse events related to the booster were reported. Conclusion: Healthy individuals aged 18-84 years, who had completed primary immunization with the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine 3 to 9 months before, have good immunogenicity and safety profiles following the sequential booster with the recombinant COVID-19 vaccine (CHO cell).

Abstract
Recovering inner residual carbon is important for fully utilizing coal gasification fine slag (CGFS) resources. In this study, we adopted a combined gravity-separation and flotation process to efficiently recover residual carbon by considering the characteristics of the CGFS and optimizing the operating factors of the process. CGFS is principally a mixture of residual carbon and ash, with low-density particles containing more of the former. Accordingly, residual carbon is preliminarily enriched by gravity separation, in which gas velocity (vg) and water velocity (vw) significantly impact separation efficiency, followed by feed volume (m). The residual carbon in the initial concentrate was preliminarily enriched (i.e., loss on ignition (LOI): 55.90%; combustible recovery (Ro): 72.36%) under appropriate operating conditions (i.e., vw = 0.04 m/s, vg = 3 m/s, m = 150 g). Moreover, the quality of the flotation concentrate was most influenced by collector dosage (mc), followed by aeration rate (η), frother dosage (mf), stirring speed (w), and grinding time (t) during flotation of the primary concentrate. The flotation concentrate exhibited LOI and Ro values of 90.95% and 50.34%, respectively, under the optimal flotation conditions (i.e., mc = 20 kg/t, mf = 15 kg/t, w = 2600 rad/min, η = 200 L/h, t = 360 s); it has a high residual carbon content and is an ideal raw material for preparing fuels or carbon materials.

Abstract
The preparation, characterization and adsorption performance of the phosphate-modified hydrochar (P-hydrochar) for Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin removal are investigated. Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin adsorption behavior fit well with the Hill model with the adsorption capacity of 119.61 and 98.38 mg/g, respectively. Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin adsorption kinetic process are accurately described by the Pseudo-second-order. Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin have synergy in the binary contaminant system, which reveals that Pb(II) adsorption amount is augmented. While ciprofloxacin adsorption amount is also augmented at low Pb(II) concentration and hindered at high Pb(II) concentration. Pb(II) adsorption mechanisms on P-hydrochar (e.g. precipitation, π-π interaction and complexation) are different from the ciprofloxacin (e.g. hydrogen bonding, pore filling, electrostatic attraction). Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin adsorption process are further analyzed by the density functional theory. The coexisted ions have little influenced on Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin adsorption. P-hydrochar still has large Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin adsorption capacity after five cycles. This result indicates that poplar sawdust waste can be converted into an efficient adsorbent to remove Pb(II) and ciprofloxacin from wastewater,.

Abstract
Poplar waste is acted as feedstock to produce renewable biofuel and green chemical by catalytic pyrolysis using ferric nitrate and zinc chloride as additive. The additive contributes to the generation of furfural in bio-oil. Additive promotes the generation of H2 and inhibits the generation of CO with bio-gas heating value of 12.16 MJ (Nm3)-1. Biochar exists ZnO and Fe3O4 with large surface area, which could be used as absorbent and photocatalyst for tetracycline and ciprofloxacin removal. The tetracycline and ciprofloxacin adsorption amount of biochar are 316.41 and 255.23 mg g-1 respectively. While the photocatalytic degradation removal of the tetracycline and ciprofloxacin is close to 100%. The adsorption and photocatalytic degradation mechanism are investigate and analyzed using the density functional theory and electron paramagnetic resonance analysis. Biochar can be quickly recycled and regenerated after use. Besides, biochar can be used in lithium ion battery industry for energy storage, which specific capacity is 535 mAh g-1.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Diet can influence peripheral leukocyte telomere length (LTL), and various micronutrients have been reported to correlate with it. Zinc is known for its antioxidant properties and immunomodulatory effects. However, there are few epidemiological investigations on the relationship between dietary zinc intake and LTL. This study analyzed the association between dietary zinc and LTL and the potential role of inflammation and oxidative stress among them. DESIGN Cross-sectional and community-based study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS 599 participants from rural communities in the Changping suburb of Beijing, China, were recruited. MEASUREMENTS Serum lipid profile, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), oxidative stress marker, and inflammatory cytokines levels were measured. Detailed dietary data were obtained using a 24 h food recall. LTL was assessed using a real-time PCR assay. Spearman analysis, restricted cubic splines (RCS), and general linear regression models were used to determine the association between dietary zinc intake and LTL. Simple regulatory models were also applied to analyze the role of inflammation and oxidative stress among them. RESULTS A total of 482 subjects were ultimately included in this analysis. Spearman analysis showed that dietary zinc intake and zinc intake under energy density were negatively correlated with LTL (r=-0.142 and -0.126, all P <0.05) and positively correlated with tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) (r=0.138 and 0.202, all P <0.05) while only dietary zinc without energy adjustment had a positive correlation with superoxide dismutase (SOD). RCS (P for non-linearity=0.933) and multiple linear regression (B=-0.084, P=0.009) indicated a negative linear association between dietary zinc and LTL. The adjustment of TNF-α rather than SOD could abolish the relationship. The mediation model suggested that the unfavorable effect of dietary zinc on LTL was mediated by TNF-α. CONCLUSIONS High dietary zinc may correlate with telomere attrition, and TNF-α can act as a mediator in this relationship. In the future, more extensive cohort studies are needed to further explore the relationship between dietary zinc and cellular aging and the specific mechanisms.

Abstract
Poplar waste is used as feedstock to prepare valuable pyrolysis products by pyrolysis under different temperature. The bio-oil is rich in aldehyde with the maximum relative content of 47.15%, which has potential application in chemical industries. Pyrolysis temperature has significantly influenced the composition and heating value of bio-gas. The maximum heating value of bio-gas is 14.56 MJ/Nm3. Biochar is used as an adsorbent to adsorb Ag+ from aqueous solution with the adsorption capacity of 76.09 mg/g. Biochar forms the value-added Ag-Biochar composite by reduction after adsorption Ag+. While, Ag-Biochar composite can be used as catalyst for methyl orange removal with the maximum removal of 94.08%. Ag-Biochar composite is also used as lithium ion battery cathode material for energy storage with the specific capacity of 345 mAh/g. Besides, preliminary economic analysis is used to evaluate the economics of pyrolysis process with the total annual revenue of $115, 725/year.

Abstract
High-silica phosphogypsum (PG) is a kind of industrial by-product with great utilization potential. However, it is difficult to reuse PG directly due to the related gangue minerals (e.g., SiO2), and thus efficient purification is required to allow its further applications. Herein, a typical high-silica phosphogypsum waste was purified by a new "reverse-direct flotation" method. The organic matters and fine slimes were removed by reverse flotation, and then, the silica impurity was removed by direct flotation. Via the closed-circuit flotation process, the whiteness of the PG concentrate is improved from 33.23 to 63.42, and the purity of gypsum in the PG concentrate increases from 83.90% to 96.70%, with a gypsum recovery of 85%. Additionally, the content of SiO2 is significantly reduced from 11.11% to 0.07%. In-depth investigations suggest that the difference in the floatability of gypsum and quartz is prominently intensified by flotation reagents at pH = 2-2.5, and thus leads to good desilication performance. Further characteristics of the PG concentrate prove that impurities have been well removed, and the PG concentrate meets the requirement of related standards for gypsum building materials. The flotation method reported here paves the way for the purification of high-silica phosphogypsum, which can be extended to the purification and value-added reutilization of other industrial solid wastes.

Abstract
PURPOSE Acromegaly caused by growth hormone cell adenoma is commonly associated with abnormal glucolipid metabolism, which may result from changes in adipocytokine secretion. This study aims to investigate serum adipokine levels, including pro-neurotensin (PNT), furin, and zinc alpha-2-glycoprotein (ZAG), in acromegalic patients and the correlation between the levels of these three adipokines and GH levels and glucolipid metabolism indices. METHODS Sixty-eight acromegalic patients and 121 controls were included, and their clinical data were recorded from electronic medical record system. Serum PNT, furin and ZAG levels were measured by ELISA. RESULTS Serum PNT levels in acromegalic patients were significantly higher than controls (66.60 ± 12.36 vs. 46.68 ± 20.54 pg/ml, P < 0.001), and acromegaly was an independent influencing factor of PNT levels (P < 0.001). Moreover, subjects with the highest tertile of PNT levels had a close correlation with acromegaly (OR = 22.200, 95% CI 7.156 ~ 68.875, P < 0.001), even in Model 1 adjusted for gender and age and Model 2 adjusted for gender, age and BMI. Additionally, serum PNT levels were positively correlated with BMI (r = 0.220, P = 0.002) and triglycerides (TGs, r = 0.295, P < 0.001), and TGs were an independent influencing factor of serum PNT levels in acromegalic subjects (P < 0.001). Furthermore, serum PNT levels in obese acromegalic patients were significantly higher than those with normal BMI (P < 0.05). However, serum furin levels were lower in acromegalic patients than controls (0.184 ± 0.036 vs. 0.204 ± 0.061 ng/ml, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION This study is the first to demonstrate that acromegalic patients have increased serum PNT levels. Moreover, serum PNT plays a potential role in abnormal lipid metabolism of acromegalic patients.

Abstract
The adsorption performance and mechanisms of Pb2+ and Cd2+ in wastewater using MgO modified biochar derived from crofton weed (MBCW600) are investigated. The Pb2+ and Cd2+ adsorption capacities of MBCW600 by the Hill model reach 384.08 mg/g and 207.02 mg/g, respectively, which is larger than that of original biochar. Pb2+ could be more easily captured by MBCW600 compared to Cd2+ in the multimetal system. Mg2+ contributes to Pb2+ and Cd2+ adsorption among coexisting cations. The exhausted MBCW600 could be well regenerated by simple method after use. The adsorption mechanism study indicates that Pb2+ and Cd2+ removal are primary contributed to mineral precipitation and ion exchange. The effective treatment volumes of Pb2+ and Cd2+ wastewater achieve 3050 mL and 2150 mL in the fixed-bed column experiment, respectively. Therefore, MBCW600 presents remarkable adsorption capability, excellent recoverability and large throughput, which shows the potential application in future treatment of wastewater containing heavy metal.

Abstract
Recycling of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) receives increasing attention due to abundant metallic resources and significant environmental threats. This work proposes a process for copper recovery from PCBs by froth flotation and oxidation leaching. Copper grade is improved from 38.70% to 68.34% with the recovery of 88.76% by froth flotation, and froth flotation is significantly influenced by copper liberation and particles dispersion of PCB powders. Process variables of oxidation leaching are examined by response surface methodology (RSM). A reliable mathematical model is obtained to predict the response as a function of independent variables and their interactions. Oxidation leaching is remarkably influenced by experimental variables, and the interactions between sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide are significant. Optimum conditions are achieved as sulfuric acid 1.0 mol/L, hydrogen peroxide 17%, temperature 50°C, and time 234 minutes, and the maximum leaching ratio of Cu is up to 99.94%, indicating that oxidation leaching is an effective method for Cu recovery from PCBs.Implications: Recycling of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) receives increasing attention due to abundant metallic resources and significant environmental threats. This work proposes a novel process for copper recovery from PCBs by froth flotation and oxidation leaching. Froth flotation is efficient to enrich copper in metal fractions. Process variables of oxidation leaching are examined by response surface methodology (RSM). The froth flotation-oxidation leaching process is practicable and effective for copper recovery from waste printed circuit boards. This study significantly contributes to recycling metal resources from waste PCBs. We believe that this work will attract a broad readership and lead others to follow our approach.

Abstract
Due to the merits of their high adsorption and convenient separation, magnetic graphene-based composites have become a promising adsorbent in terms of wastewater treatment. However, recycling and regeneration properties of magnetic graphene-based composites are still a conundrum, which remains to be resolved. Here, Fe3O4/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) (Fe3O4/RGO) nanocomposites were synthesized by one-step solvent-thermal reduction route and used as adsorbents for water purification. It was encouraging to find that the nanocomposites possessed many intriguing properties in removing of Cr(VI) ions, including high adsorption efficiency and excellent recycling and regeneration property. The results indicated that the magnetic separation process of the Fe3O4/RGO nanocomposites only took less than 5 s and the maximum removal efficiency of Cr(VI) reached 99.9% under the optimum experimental conditions. Most significantly, the adsorption rate of Cr(VI) can still be as high as 98.13% after 10 cycles and the single recycle quality of the nanocomposites can maintain at more than 80%. As a result, the Fe3O4/RGO nanocomposites could be a potential adsorbent for removing heavy metal ions effectively, especially in environmental protection and restoration.

Abstract
Despite the high capacity of Co3O4 employed in lithium-ion battery anodes, the reduced conductivity and grievous volume change of Co3O4 during long cycling of insertion/extraction of lithium-ions remain a challenge. Herein, an optimized nanocomposite, Co3O4/nitrogen-doped hemisphere-porous graphene composite (Co3O4/N-HPGC), is synthesized by a facile hydrothermal-template approach with polystyrene (PS) microspheres as a template. The characterization results demonstrate that Co3O4 nanoparticles are densely anchored onto graphene layers, nitrogen elements are successfully introduced by carbamide and the nanocomposites maintain the hemispherical porous structure. As an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, the composite material not only maintains a relatively high lithium storage capacity (the first discharge specific capacity can reach 2696 mA h g−1), but also shows significantly improved rate performance (1188 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1, 344 mA h g−1 at 5 A g−1) and enhanced cycling stability (683 mA h g−1 after 500 cycles at 1 A g−1). The enhanced electrochemical properties of Co3O4/N-HPGC nanocomposites can be ascribed to the synergistic effects of Co3O4 nanoparticles, novel hierarchical structure with hemisphere-pores and nitrogen-containing functional groups of the nanomaterials. Therefore, the developed strategy can be extended as a universal and scalable approach for integrating various metal oxides into graphene-based materials for energy storage and conversion applications. The Co3O4/N-HPGC nanocomposites synthesized by a hydrothermal-template approach with polystyrene microspheres as the template possess excellent electrochemical performance.![]()

Abstract
Three-dimensional porous carbon is considered as an ideal electrode material for supercapacitors (SCs) applications owing to its good conductivity, developed pore structure, and excellent connectivity. Herein, using longan shell as precursor, 3-dimensional porous carbon with abundant and interconnected pores and moderate heteroatoms were obtained via simple carbonization and potassium hydroxide (KOH) activation treatment. The electrochemical performances of obtained 3-dimensional porous carbon were investigated as electrode materials in symmetric SCs with aqueous and solid electrolytes. The optimized material that is named after longan shell 3-dimensional porous carbon 800 (LSPC800) possesses high porosity (1.644 cm3 g-1) and N content (1.14 at %). In the three-electrode measurement, the LSPC800 displays an excellent capacitance value of 359 F g-1. Besides, the LSPC800 also achieves splendid specific capacitance (254 F g-1) in the two electrode system, while the fabricated SC employing 1 M Li2SO4 as electrolyte acquires ultrahigh power density (15930.38 W kg-1). Most importantly, LSPC800 electrodes are further applied into the SC adopting the KOH/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gel electrolyte, which reaches up to an outstanding capacitance of 313 F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1. In addition, for the all-solid-state SC, its rate capability at 50 A g-1 is 72.73% and retention at the 10,000th run is 93.64%. Evidently, this work is of great significance to the simple fabrication of 3-dimensional porous carbon and further opens up a way of improving the value-added utilization of biomass materials, as well as proving that the biomass porous carbons have immense potential for high-performance SCs application.

Abstract
Low-cost and earth-abundant coal has been considered to have a unique structural superiority as carbon sources of carbon quantum dots (CQDs). However, it is still difficult to obtain CQDs from raw coal due to its compactibility and lower reactivity, and the majority of the current coal-based CQDs usually emit green or blue fluorescence. Herein, a facile two-step oxidation approach (K2FeO4 pre-oxidation and H2O2 oxidation) was proposed to fabricate bandgap tunable CQDs from anthracite. The K2FeO4 pre-oxidation can not only weaken the non-bonding forces among coal molecules which cause the expansion of coal particles, but also form a large number of active sites on the surface of coal particles. The above effects make the bandgap tunable CQDs (blue, green, or yellow fluorescence) can be quickly obtained from anthracite within 1 h in the following H2O2 oxidation by simply adjusting the concentration of H2O2. All the as-prepared CQDs contain more than 30 at% oxygen, and the average diameters of which are <10 nm. The results also indicate that the high oxygen content only can create new energy states inside the band gap of CQDs with average diameter more than 3.2 ± 0.9 nm, which make the as-prepared CQDs emit green or yellow fluorescence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Liver metastasis is one of the major causes of cancer-related death in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The purpose of this study was to identify specific molecules which are involved in colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study, we employed TMT (tandem mass tags)-labeling combined with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technology to do comparative analyses of proteomics between the primary tumor specimens derived from colorectal cancer patients with or without liver metastasis. Pathway enrichment analyses were performed using DAVID database. The crucial molecules were identified through protein-protein interaction network. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was employed to analyze the expression of THBS1 (thrombospondin-1) in CRC tissues. Finally, transwell cell migration and invasion assays were performed to explore the roles of THBS1 in CRC cell migration and invasion. RESULTS We found that the expression of 311 proteins was dysregulated in CRLM using quantitative proteomics. Among these proteins, we identified FN1, TIMP1, THBS1, POSTN and VCAN as five crucial proteins in CRLM by analysis in silico. IHC assay revealed that increased THBS1 expression was significantly correlated with liver metastasis as well as poor prognosis of CRC patients. GEO data analysis also suggests that upregulated mRNA level of THBS1 is also associated with shorter overall survival of CRC patients. Moreover, THBS1 depletion inhibited migration and invasion of CRC cells through attenuating epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Co-expression analyses with TCGA data indicated that THBS1 is co-expressed with mesenchymal markers, including Vimentin, N-cadherin, Snail1 and Twist1 in CRC tissues. CONCLUSIONS By collecting the omics data with functional studies, the present results reveal that THBS1 facilitates colorectal liver metastasis through promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition. This understanding of molecular roles of THBS1 in CRLM may be promising to develop targeted therapies to prolong survival in CRC patients.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the consequences of the thickness of ganglion cell layer (GCL) and visual field defect of non-functional pituitary adenoma with chiasm compression. Methods: A case control study. The study included 40 (80 eyes) non-functional pituitary adenoma patients in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from March 2015 to February 2017. Twenty patients (no visual field defect group, 40 eyes) of them were detected to be chiasm compressed or touched by the adenoma with no visual field defect detected, and the other 20 patients (visual field defect group, 40 eyes) were the sex-and-age matched pituitary adenoma patients with bitemporal heminopsia. This study also included 20 (control group, 40 eyes) sex-and-age matched healthy controls. The para-papillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in 6 quadrants including nasal, temporal, nasal superior, temporal superior, nasal inferior and temporal inferior as well as the macular GCL thickness and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness in 4 quadrants including nasal superior, nasal inferior, temporal superior and temporal inferior were measured. The non-parametric test was used to compare the RNFL, GCL and GCIPL thickness among the three groups. Results: The mean age among the three groups was (46±10) years and the difference among the three groups was not significant (P=0.88). The sex ratio of the three groups was 9∶11 (male∶female) and the difference among the three groups was not significant. The mean axial length among the three groups was (23.22±0.90) mm and the difference among the three groups was not significant (P=0.51). The thickness of para-papillary RNFL of temporal superior, temporal, nasal superior, nasal, nasal inferior quadrants and whole circumference was significantly thinner in the visual field defect group than the control group [(129.88±28.64) μm, (63.63±26.84) μm, (88.08±32.16) μm, (50.68±19.99) μm, (92.48±25.06) μm, and (85.00±20.65) μm vs. (141.10±18.95) μm, (79.12±16.78) μm, (113.68±21.28) μm, (69.67±14.23) μm, (117.80±31.32) μm, and (102.80±9.68) μm, t=2.26, 3.06, 4.14, 4.84, 4.25, 4.88, all P<0.05]. In the nasal quadrant, the para-papillary RNFL of the no visual field defect group was significantly thinner compared with the control group [(61.45±9.83) μm vs. (69.67±14.23) μm, t=2.97, P<0.05]. The total GCL thickness was (30.48±5.42) μm in the visual field defect group, (31.35±2.77) μm in the no visual field defect group, thinner than that in the control group [(33.32±2.92) μm, t=2.92, 3.62; both P<0.05]. The total GCIPL thickness showed no significant difference among the three groups (P=0.07). In the superior and inferior temporal quadrants, the GCL and GCIPL thickness showed no significant difference among the three groups (all P>0.05). In the superior and inferior nasal quadrants, the GCL thickness was (29.41±5.97) μm, and (28.47±5.13) μm in the visual field defect group, (31.15±3.27) μm and (30.61±2.96) μm in the no visual field defect group, and (34.23±3.16) μm and (32.97±2.78) μm in the control group. The GCL thickness in the nasal quadrant was thinner in the visual field defect group (t=4.45, 4.82)and the no visual field defect group(t=4.23, 3.63) than in the control group (all P<0.01). However, no significant difference in GCL thickness was detected between the visual field defect group and the no visual field defect group (both P>0.05). In the superior and inferior nasal quadrants, the GCIPL thickness was (54.06±10.50) μm and (51.77±9.18) μm in the visual field defect group, (58.03±4.00) μm and (56.23±5.37) μm in the no visual field defect group, and (62.26±7.11) μm and (59.39±6.64) μm in the control group. The GCIPL thickness was thinner in the nasal quadrant in the visual field defect group than in the control group (t=3.95, 4.20, both P<0.01). Only in the Superior nasal quadrant, the GCIPL was significantly thinner in the no visual field defect group than the control group (t=3.25, P<0.01). Conclusion: The optic GCL may get thinner in pituitary nonfunctional adenoma with chiasm compression patients without the RNFL layer thinning and visual field defect. Abstract
Objective: To understand the seasonal distribution of patient hospitalization due to asthma exacerbation in 7 geographic areas in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout 7 geographic areas in the mainland of China (northeast, north, central, east, south, northwest and southwest). The numbers of asthmatic patients and total inpatients of the respiratory department of each hospital were recorded. The monthly ratio of asthmatic patients to the total inpatients in every area was calculated and compared. Results: During the study period, 6 480 patients were admitted for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% of all the 206 135 patients admitted to the respiratory departments in the 29 hospitals. The ratio of asthmatic patients to total inpatients in the northeast area (5.61%) was highest, and the ratio in east area was lowest (1.97%). Statistical analysis showed that the difference among different areas was significant (P<0.000 1). In most areas, both the number and proportion of hospitalized asthmatic patients peaked in spring (February-April) and autumn (September-October). In the northeast area, east area and south area, the peaks in spring were more obvious, while in the north area and southwest area, the peaks in autumn were more obvious. In the northwest area the peaks occurred in winter (December-January) and summer (June-August), respectively. The differences in hospitalization due to asthma among different months were significant in the northeast, north, and southwest areas (P<0.005). Conclusion: The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation fluctuated with season in different areas in China. In most areas, more asthmatic patients were admitted to hospitals in spring and autumn.

Abstract
Objective: To study the seasonal characteristics of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout mainland China during 2013-2014. The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in each hospital was calculated, as well as the ratio of asthmatic patients to all the hospitalized patients. The analysis by month was conducted. The number and ratio of asthmatic patients in the northern and southern cities were calculated respectively. Results: During the study period, there were 6 480 patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% (6 480/206 135) of all the hospitalized patients of the respiratory department in 29 hospitals. The analysis by month showed that the ratio of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was highest in March (3.49%), then declined from April to June, then rose again from July, reaching a second peak at September (3.28%), and then declined again from October to December. The ratio of asthmatic patients in every month was higher in northern cities than in southern cities. Conclusions: The ratio of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China fluctuates with the changes of seasons, and March and September are the two peak months. Northern cities have a higher ratio of asthmatic patients than southern cities.

Abstract
Objective: To study the characteristics of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 teaching hospitals in China and to evaluate the hospitalization costs of these patients. Methods: This was a retrospective study and involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout China during 2013-2014. Information about the demographic features, conditions before the admission, the outcome, the complications, and the costs was collected using the pre-designed case report form. The influencing factors of the hospitalization costs were analyzed. Results: 3 240 asthmatic patients (1 369 males and 1 871 females) were included and data were analyzed. There were 41.5% (1 346/3 240) patients who had a history of previous hospitalization or emergency department visits during the last year. Only 28.0% (907/3 240) patients had used asthma-controlling medications regularly before the admission. Seventy-three(2.3%) patients were admitted to ICU and used mechanical ventilation. Mortality among these patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was 0.25% (8/3 240). The median hospitalization costs was 9 045(6 431, 13 035) RMB. The costs of medications, examinations and treatment accounted for 52.1%, 27.6%, and 9.6% respectively. The costs of asthma medications accounted for only 22.7% of the total medication costs, while the costs of antibiotics accounted for 44.0%. The patients who were admitted to ICU, used mechanical ventilation, complicated with pneumonia, or had a history of hospitalization or emergency department visits during the last year due to asthma exacerbations tended to cost more. Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrated that only a minority of the patients had used asthma controllers regularly before the admissions with exacerbations. The in-hospital mortality of asthma patients in this study was much lower than that reported in other countries. The average cost of hospitalization was much higher than the yearly cost of maintenance therapy. Medication was the predominant component of the total hospitalization costs, and the costs of antibiotics made up the major part of the total medication costs.

Abstract
Objective: To study the treatment of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study and involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout China during Jan 2013 to Dec 2014. Information of the demographic features, the severity of the exacerbation, the medicine prescribed during the hospitalization and the use of mechanical ventilation were collected and analyzed. Results: During the study period, there were 3 240 patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation, and 1 369(42.3%) of them were males 1 871(57.7%)were females. Patients of mild, moderate, severe, and life-threatening exacerbation counted for 41.7%, 37.8%, 19.2% and 1.0%, respectively of the total patients. Of all the patients, 72.6% used bronchodilators by nebulizer, 70.8% used inhaled corticosteroids by nebulizer, 60.5% used intravenous corticosteroids, 17.3% used oral corticosteroids, and 80.5% used antibiotics. The percentages of patients using systemic corticosteroids and antibiotics were higher in patients with more severe exacerbation. In patients with mild exacerbation, there were 74.9% and 52.2% who used antibiotics and systemic corticosteroids, respectively. A total of 73 patients (2.3%) used mechanical ventilation, and 62 of them used noninvasive ventilation, 16 used invasive ventilation, and 5 used both. Conclusions: Nebulizer therapy has been accepted as the main administration route of medicine in the treatment of asthma exacerbation. A large amount of patients used antibiotics and systemic corticosteroids during hospitalization, indicating there may be some overuse of these medicines.

Abstract
Objective: To study the mortality and death-related risk factors of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in Chinese urban areas. Methods: A retrospective study was carried out in 29 hospitals of 29 provinces throughout mainland China. Patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation during 2013-2014 in each hospital were included. For each patient, information about demography, admission time, comorbidities, severity of diseases, intense care unit (ICU) admission, use of mechanical ventilation and the outcome was obtained. The mortality of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was calculated, and the basic information and causes of death of the patients who died were summarized. The death-related risk factors and numbers of comorbidities were compared between the patients who survived and those who died during hospitalization. Results: A total of 3 240 patients (median age 57.0) were included and among them 8 patients (median age 68.5) died. The mortality of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was 0.25%. All the patients who died were admitted during the winter and spring. One patient died of acute myocardial infarction, one of cardiac shock, one of tension pneumothorax, one of sudden death, one of respiratory failure and three of unknown causes. The average number of comorbidities of patients who died was 1.10, larger than that of patients who survived (0.83) (P>0.05). More patients had diabetes, coronary artery diseases and hypertension as comorbidities in the patients who died (2/8) than those who survived[7.6% (246/3 232), 7.6% (246/3 232), 22.6% (731/3 232), respectively](all P>0.05). Conclusions: The in-hospital mortality of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation of China in this study is low. The patients who died are much older, and with more comorbidities, and a higher percentage of comorbidities such as diabetes, coronary artery diseases, and hypertension.

Abstract
Coal tar pitch (CTP), a by-product of coking industry, has a unique molecule structure comprising an aromatic nucleus and several side chains bonding on this graphene-like nucleus, which is very similar to the structure of graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Based on this perception, we develop a facile approach to convert CTP to GQDs only by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide under mild conditions. One to three graphene layers, monodisperse GQDs with a narrow size distribution of 1.7 ± 0.4 nm, are obtained at high yield (more than 80 wt. %) from CTP. The as-produced GQDs are highly soluble and strongly fluorescent in aqueous solution. This simple strategy provides a feasible route towards the commercial synthesis of GQDs for its cheap material source, green reagent, mild condition, and high yield.

Abstract
A novel carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)-supported graphene oxide aerogel (CGOA) was fabricated from a cost-effective and abundant bituminous coal by a mild hydrothermal process and freeze-drying treatment. Such an aerogel has cross-linked graphene oxide layers supported by CMC, and therefore, displays high mechanical strength while having ultra-low density (8.257 mg·cm-3). The CGOA has a 3D interconnected porous structure, beneficial graphene framework defects and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, which offer favorable diffusion channels and effective adsorption sites for the transport and adsorption of dye molecules. The adsorption performance of rhodamine B by an optimized CGOA shows a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 312.50 mg·g-1, as determined by Langmuir isotherm parameters. This CGOA exhibited a better adsorption efficiency (99.99%) in alkaline solution, and satisfactory stability (90.60%) after three cycles. In addition, adsorption experiments on various dyes have revealed that CGOA have better adsorption capacities for cationic dyes than anionic dyes.

Abstract
Objectives Given the function of adiponectin (ADIPOQ) on the inflammatory condition of obesity and osteoarthritis (OA), we hypothesized that the ADIPOQ gene might be a candidate gene for a marker of susceptibility to OA. Methods We systematically screened three tagging polymorphisms (rs182052, rs2082940 and rs6773957) in the ADIPOQ gene, and evaluated the association between the genetic variants and OA risk in a case-controlled study that included 196 OA patients and 442 controls in a northern Chinese population. Genotyping was performed using the Sequenom MassARRAY iPLEX platform. Results The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs182052 was found to be potentially associated with knee OA risk (additive model: odds ratio = 1.38; 95% confidence interval 1.07 to 1.76; p = 0.012). Furthermore, a non-significant association was observed for rs182052 and body mass index with regard to OA risk in interaction analyses (p = 0.063). Similarly, no significant interaction was detected for rs182052 and age with regard to OA risk (p = 0.614). Conclusion These findings suggest that the SNP rs182052 in the ADIPOQ gene may potentially modify individual susceptibility to knee OA in the Chinese population. Abstract
Objective: To explore the correlation between the parameters of the new generation of Acoustic Cardiography and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and cardiac function grading in the diagnosis of heart failure. Methods: One hundred and sixty-eight inpatients, who were hospitalized in Department of Cardiology, Haikou People's Hospital from May 2016 to July 2017, were enrolled as heart failure group, including NYHA class Ⅰ(n=29), NYHA class Ⅱ(n=40), NYHA class Ⅲ(n=64), NYHA class Ⅳ (n=35). And eighty-seven patients with normal cardiac function were selected as healthy control group. The data of the two groups were analyzed after the Acoustic Cardiography test, BNP determination and LVEF examination. Results: The differences in QRS duration, electromechanical activation time (EMAT), EMAT%, systolic dysfunction index (SDI), third heart sound (S3) and other indicators among the groups with different levels of cardiac function were statistically significant (P<0.05). The difference in left ventricular systolic time (LVST) between the cardiac function grade Ⅰ and healthy group was not significant (P>0.05), while the differences among the rest groups were significant. There was a positive correlation between QRS duration, EMAT%, SDI, S3 and BNP (t=9.46, 11.38, 12.14, 9.67, respectively, P<0.05); LVST and BNP were negatively correlated (t=-14.27, P<0.05). There was a negative correlation between QRS duration, EMAT%, SDI, S3 and LVEF (t=11.24, -8.764, -2.393, -0.579, respectively, P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between LVST and LVEF (t=23.48, P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between QRS duration, EMAT%, SDI, S3 and cardiac function grading (β=0.003, 0.234, 0.419, 0.352, respectively, P<0.05). There was a negative correlation between LVST and cardiac function grade (β=-0.021, P<0.05). Conclusion: The parameters of the Acoustic Cardiography test (EMAT%, EMAT, SDI, S3 ) are closely related to BNP, LVEF and cardiac function grading, and can be used as assistant indexes for the diagnosis and evaluation of heart failure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A recent genome-wide association study reported significant associations of genetic variants within the ALDH1A2 gene with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hand in European populations. However, these findings have not been well generalized to other joints, or to other populations. METHODS We performed a two-stage population-based case-control study including 196 non-post traumatic knee OA cases and 442 controls in the first stage and independent 143 non-post traumatic knee OA cases and 238 controls in the second stage in a Chinese population by genotyping eight tagging polymorphisms in ALDH1A2. RESULTS In the first stage, the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4238326 was found to be potentially associated with knee OA risk (additive model: odds ratio [OR] = 0.70; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 0.49-1.01; P = 0.055), which was further confirmed in the second stage with similar effect (additive model: OR = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.38-0.95; P = 0.029). After combining the two stages, we found that the variant C allele of rs4238326 was probably associated with decreased risk of knee OA (additive model: OR = 0.65; 95% CI = 0.49-0.86; P = 0.003). Furthermore, interaction analyses showed that rs4238326 interacted multiplicatively with age to contribute to knee OA risk (interaction P = 0.041). CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate that the SNP rs4238326 in ALDH1A2 gene may potentially modify individual susceptibility to knee OA in the Chinese population. Beyond that, further studies are warranted to validate and extend our findings, and future functional studies are required to clarify the possible mechanisms.

Abstract
A series of austenitic alloys (800H, H214, I625, 310S, and 347) with different surface finishes were exposed to supercritical water (SCW) at 550 °C and 2.5 × 107 Pa for 120 h, 260 h, and 450 h in a static autoclave with an initial level of dissolved oxygen of 8 ppm. Indentation with a hardness indenter was used for assessment of oxide adhesion. This was compared with the results of a similar test on SCW-oxidized ferritic alloys. Delamination in all the tested ferritic alloys was insufficient for quantification of the results but allowed for qualitative comparison within this group. In the set of austenitic alloys, oxide on stainless steel (SS) 347 exfoliated during cooling from 550 °C, and from the remaining four alloys, only oxide on H214 delaminated, which made the qualitative comparison across the whole group impossible. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) revealed that under delaminated external Cr2O3 on H214 alloy, there was a submicron thick layer of Al-rich oxide. To investigate a possible oxide spallation on austenitic samples during exposure, mass loss obtained through descaling was compared with mass gain due to SCW exposure. The results indicated that the applied descaling procedure did not, in most cases, fully remove the scale. Apart from one case (SS 347 with alumina surface finish), there was no clear indication of oxide spallation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the outcomes of the Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for patients with pituitary adenomas, analyze the learning curve and provide reference for future surgeries. METHODS Retrospective analysis was carried out on 124 patients by endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery with a single neurosurgeon over a period spanning from January 2010 to January 2014 at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.The changes of endocrine and tumor imaging before and after surgery were analysed. Operative time and complication rates of one surgeon in the early period of learning curve were compared with that in later period. RESULTS There were significant differences in Gross total resection (GTR) rate of pituitary adenomas with different sizes and different Knosp classifications (P<0.01, P<0.01). GTR rate of huge adenomas was significantly lower than that of macroadenoma and adenomas (P<0.05). GTR rate of Knosp 4 grade adenoma was significantly lower than that of Knosp 0-3 level (P<0.05). No significant difference in GTR among all types of functional pituitary adenomas and hormone levels after surgery was observed (P>0.05). In addition, no significant difference (P>0.05) in complications among different sizes, Knosp grade and type of pituitary adenomas was observed.GTR of Knosp 4 adenoma in later period of the learning curve was significantly higher than that in early period (P<0.05). Meanwhile the operative time was significantly lower than early period (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary adenoma resection has the advantages of wider surgical field, higher GTR rate, less trauma, fewer complications and better life quality of patients.Through standardized learning, the GTR rate of the invasive pituitary adenomas can be improved.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic effects and duration of bromocriptine treatment during pregnancy in patients with pituitary prolactinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 230 female pituitary prolactinoma patients at the Beijing Union Medical College Hospital neurosurgery clinic from January 2001 to May 2014 was conducted. When confirmed pregnant, patients in the control group immediately stopped taking bromocriptine, but patients in the treatment group continued to take the same dose of bromocriptine. RESULTS The embryos stop rate in the control group was 16.7%, significantly higher than the rate in the natural population (p < 0.05), while the rate in the treatment group (0.9%) not statistically different from that of the natural population (p > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the embryonic malformation rate between the two study groups compared to the normal pregnancy group (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Pregnant pituitary prolactinoma patients should not stop bromocriptine treatment, but should instead continue with the same dose for four months. For patients with macroadenoma, bromocriptine should be taken during the entire pregnancy. Blood prolactin, progesterone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), and visual dysfunction should be monitored every two weeks during treatment. Patients should be treated with progesterone and hCG if the blood levels become too low. If regular monitoring shows that prolactin has increased too fast and/or visual dysfunction worsened, the dose of bromocriptine should be in- creased. The authors have found that bromocriptine treatment during pregnancy significantly reduces the embryo stop rate without in- creasing the embryo deformity rate; therefore, bromocriptine treatment is safe and necessary during pregnancy of pituitary prolactinoma patients.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics of thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenomas and the effect of the transsphenoidal approach of procedure with/without drug treatment for thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenomas, and to investigate the correlation between the prognosis of thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenomas and the postoperative level of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Methods: A total of 45 patients with thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenoma who hospitalized in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2000 to 2015 were enrolled in the study.We collected the clinical features, hormone levels, imaging findings, treatment and follow-up data of these patients. Results: The average age of the patients was 40.26 years old and the average disease duration was 5.83 years.Among them, 8 cases were microadenomas and 37 cases were macroadenoma.Thirty patients were treated with somatostatin analogues before surgery.TSH level was significantly decreased after operation (P=0.012). All of them had done the pituitary surgery, including 44 transsphenoidal surgery and 1 subfrontal surgery that had recurrence one year after the transsphenoidal surgery.The TSH level of 34 cases went back to normal on the third day after surgery.The remission rates on three months and one year after surgery in patients with TSH level<0.1 mIU/L on postoperative day (POD) 3 were significantly higher than those in patients with TSH level>0.1 mIU/L on POD3.As well as the remission rates on three months and one year after surgery in patients with TSH level normal on postoperative one month were significantly higher than those in patients with TSH level abnormal on postoperative one month. Conclusions: TSH level of postoperative one month could be used to predict prognosis and monitor recurrence.

Abstract
Objective: To study and the value of morning plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and urinary free cortisol (24 h UFC) within 3 days after operation in patients with Cushing's disease in predicting the long-term outcome. Methods: The clinical data of 140 patients with Cushing's disease who were treated in Department of Neurosurgery of PUMCH from 2012 to 2014 were analyzed retrospectively.The univariate analysis, multivariate Logistic analysis, ROC curve analysis and other statistical methods were used to study the predicting value of morning plasma ACTH and 24 h UFC in 3 days post operation. Results: Univariate analysis showed that in the two groups of the early remission and no remission, there was significant statistical difference between the preoperative ACTH, preoperative 24 h UFC, postoperative ACTH and postoperative 24 h UFC (P<0.05, <0.01, <0.01). Logistic analysis showed that ACTH and 24 h UFC after operation of two groups had significant difference (P<0.01, <0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that postoperative cutoff values of ACTH and 24 h UFC were 4.11 pmol/L (18.7 pg/ml) and 281.42 nmol (102 μg)/24 h. ROC analysis was performed to evaluate the predicting performance of postoperative ACTH, resulting in an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.917 (95%CI: 0.858-0.957, P<0.01). In comparison, 24 h UFC had an AUC of 0.814 (95%CI: 0.739-0.875, P<0.01). The predicting value of ACTH is significantly better than that of 24 h UFC (P=0.005). Conclusion: Early morning 24 h UFC and ACTH within 3 days after operation both showed considerable accuracy in predicting the long-term outcome of Cushing's disease, and the significance of ACTH was even greater than that of 24 h UFC.
