Abstract
Cancer antigen 125 (CA125) is pivotal as a tumor marker in early ovarian cancer prevention and diagnosis. In this work, we introduced an ultrasensitive label-free electrochemical immunosensor tailored for CA125 detection, leveraging nanogold-functionalized copper-cobalt oxide nanosheets (CuCo-ONSs@AuNPs) as nanocomposites. For the inaugural application, copper-cobalt oxide nanosheets delivered the requisite DPV electrochemical response for the immunosensors. Their large specific surface area and commendable electrical conductivity amplify electron transfer and enable significant gold nanoparticle loading. Concurrently, AuNPs offer a plethora of active sites, facilitating easy immobilization of biomolecules via the bond between amino groups and AuNPs. We employed scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to characterize the nanomaterials' surface morphology and elemental composition. The electrochemical sensor response signals were ascertained using differential pulse voltammetry. Under optimal conditions, the immunosensor exhibited a linear detection range from 1×10-7 U/mL to 1×10-3 U/mL and a detection limit of 3.9×10-8 U/mL (S/N=3). The proposed label-free electrochemical immunosensor furnishes a straightforward, dependable, and sensitive approach for CA125 quantification and stands as a promising method for clinical detection of other tumor markers.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to optimize fermentation conditions for preparation of Chaenomeles sinensis Glutinous Rice Wine (CRW). The dynamic changes of main substances in the liquor during fermentation process, aroma components, biologically active substances and antioxidant capacity in the CRW after 6 months of aging were tested. The results showed that under optimized conditions, the yield and alcohol content of wine was 44.97 and 20.00%, respectively. After aging, 64 aroma components were detected in the wine, mainly alcohols and esters. The alcohol content of the CRW was 14.8%. Polyphenols and flavonoids reached 0.23 g/L and 0.037 g/L respectively. Furthermore, the CRW had an excellent free radical scavenging ability. Abstract
Carbohydrate antigen 199 (CA199) is the most sensitive marker reported for pancreatic cancer, and it is a difficult task to develop a highly sensitive assay for CA199. During the experiment, a ratiometric electrochemical immunosensor for quantitative analysis of CA199 was prepared for NiCo@Fc-MWCNTs-LDH as the electrode sensing surface and 3D-rGOF@Ag/Au as the label of Ab2. NiCo@Fc-MWCNTs-LDH not only provide the required signal for the immunosensor, but also have a layered structure to obtain a large specific surface area, which can provide more sites for the placement of biological molecules. rGOF has the advantages of large specific surface area and high porosity, which can adsorb Ag electrochemical probe through redox reaction. The modification of gold nanoparticles can not only enhance the electrical conductivity of nano-composites, but also immobilize more biomolecules to improve the sensitivity of electrochemical sensors. With the beefing up of CA199 concentration, the oxidation peak current of Ag increases and the oxidation peak current of Fc-COOH decreases. The ratio (y = IAg/IFc-COOH) of two different signals was linear with the logarithm of CA199 concentration in a certain value range. Under optimal conditions, the immunosensor showed excellent performance in the concentration range of 0.0001 U/mL to 10 U/mL, and the detection limit was 5.55 × 10-4 U/mL. The strategy could clearly discriminate between matched and mismatched targets, demonstrating high specifificity. This approach further detects CA199 in human plasma to differentiate pancreatic cancer patients from healthy individuals with high accuracy. This method also provided a new idea for the ultrasensitive quantitative detection of other biomarkers.

Abstract
Herein, we develop innovative p-block Bi-doped Co3O4 nanoflakes (Bi-Co3O4 NFAs) on nickel foam, which exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity for both glucose oxidation (GOR) and H2 evolution reactions (HER). The two-electrode GOR-HER electrolyzer using Bi-Co3O4 NFAs as both the cathode and anode shows a remarkable reduced operation voltage of 1.48 V at 10 mA cm-2, superior to the 1.66 V of the OER-HER electrolyzer, demonstrating promising potential for advanced H2 production featuring energy saving and simultaneously produced value-added chemicals.

Abstract
Surveillance frequency for metastasis is guided by gene expression profiling (GEP). This study evaluated the effect of GEP on time to diagnosis of metastasis, subsequent treatment and survival. A retrospective study was conducted of 110 uveal melanoma patients with GEP (DecisionDx-UM, Castle Biosciences, Friendswood, Texas, USA) and 110 American Joint Committee on Cancer-matched controls. Surveillance testing and treatment for metastasis were compared between the two groups and by GEP class. Rates of metastasis, overall survival and melanoma-related mortality were calculated using Kaplan-Meier estimates. Baseline characteristics and follow-up time were balanced in the two groups. Patients' GEP classification was 1A in 41%, 1B in 25.5% and 2 in 33.6%. Metastasis was diagnosed in 26.4% (n = 29) in the GEP group and 23.6% (n = 26) in the no GEP group (P = 0.75). Median time to metastasis was 30.5 and 22.3 months in the GEP and no GEP groups, respectively (P = 0.44). Median months to metastasis were 34.7, 75.8 and 26.1 in class 1A, 1B and 2 patients, respectively (P = 0.28). Disease-specific 5-year survival rates were 89.4% [95% confidence interval (CI): 81.0-94.2%] and 84.1% (95% CI: 74.9-90.1%) in the GEP and no GEP groups respectively (P = 0.49). Median time to death from metastasis was 10.1 months in the GEP group and 8.5 months in the no GEP group (P = 0.40). There were no significant differences in time to metastasis diagnosis and survival outcomes in patients with and without GEP. To realize the full benefit of GEP, more sensitive techniques for detection of metastasis and adjuvant therapies are required.

Abstract
Cancer antigen 125 (CA125)1 is the most important biological screening indicator used to monitor epithelial ovarian cancers, and it plays a vital role in distinguishing ovarian cancers from benign diseases. Biosensors show great potential in the analysis and detection of disease markers. In this study, we designed electrochemical sensors based on three-dimensional amino-functionalized reduced graphene oxide (3D-rGOF-NH2),2 MgAl layered double hydroxide nanocomposites containing ordered mesoporous carbon (CMK-3),3 and ferrocene carboxylic acids(Fc-COOH)4for the detection of CA125. 3D-rGOF-NH2 possesses good conductivity, a large surface area, and high porosity, enabling more immobilized nanoparticles to be deposited on its surface with excellent stability. CMK-3@Fc@MgAl-LDH nanocomposite was used as a carrier to enhance the immobilization of antibodies and the loading of Fc, conductors to enhance conductivity, and enhancers to gradually amplify the signal of Fc. The surface morphology, elemental composition, and surface groups of the materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM),5 transmission electron microscopy (TEM),6 and X-ray diffraction (XRD)7 techniques. The response signal of the electrochemical sensor was measured by DPV. Under the optimal conditions, the electrochemical sensor obtained a linear detection range of 0.01 U/mL-100 U/mL with a detection limit of 0.00417 U/mL.

Abstract
We attempted to clarify clinical value of KiSS-1 and MMP-2 levels in breast cancer (BC) tissue in evaluating prognosis of elderly BC patients after modified radical mastectomy (MCM). The data of 192 elderly female BC patients receiving MCM in our hospital from January 2018 to December 2022 were collected. According to prognosis, patients received division into poor prognosis group (n = 43) and good prognosis group (n = 149). The serum CEA level and KiSS-1 and MMP-2 levels in BC tissue received measurement in both groups. The predictive value of KiSS-1 and MMP-2 alone and jointly in adverse prognosis of elderly BC patients after MCM received assessment. Results showed that No statistical significance was exhibited between both groups in general data (P > 0.05). The serum CEA level and MMP-2 expression in BC tissue in poor prognosis group exhibited elevation relative to those in good prognosis group, and KiSS-1 expression in BC tissue in poor prognosis group exhibited depletion relative to that in good prognosis group, indicating statistical significance (P < 0.05). The high-level KiSS-1 might be a protective element for adverse prognosis of elderly BC patients after MCM, and high-level CEA and MMP-2 might be an independent risk element for adverse prognosis of elderly BC patients after MCM (P < 0.05). KiSS-1 and MMP-2 alone and jointly predicted AUC of adverse prognosis in elderly BC patients after MCM were 0.93, 0.802 and 0.958, with certain predictive values; when cutoff values of KiSS-1 and MMP-2 were 6.15 and 2.26, the predictive value was the best. In conclusion, KiSS-1 and MMP-2 levels in BC tissue possess relation to adverse prognosis of MCM. KiSS-1 and MMP-2 levels in elderly BC patients before surgery may be detected in the future to assist in prognosis evaluation of elderly BC patients after MCM.

Abstract
Environmentally friendly and outstanding pH responsiveness cationic starch nanoparticles (CSNP) were prepared through ethanol precipitation from pH-sensitive starch, which preparation of cationic starch (CS) by grafting copolymerization with dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA). In this work, CSNP showed a nanometer size and regular sphere, highly free-flowing molecular chains, and outstanding pH responsiveness which was proved by the high stability of its stabilized emulsion through 6 emulsification/ demulsification transition. The result of the SEM and particle size distribution indicated that the size of the CSNP-0 was about 800 nm, and decreased with the DMAEMA increased. Moreover, the CSNP-stabilized emulsion was stable at pH = 7 and pH = 12. However, this emulsion exhibited breakage at pH = 2. In addition, the CSNP-stabilized Pickering emulsion achieved an emulsification/demulsification switching by cycling the pH at least 6 times, during which the average droplet size gradually increased. At pH ≥ 7, the emulsions exhibit shear thinning behavior.

Abstract
Recent years small object detection has seen remarkable advancement. However, small objects are difficult to accurately detect in complex scenes due to their low resolution. The downsampling operation inevitably leads to the loss of information for small objects. In order to solve these issues, this article proposes a novel Multi-branch Attention Network (MBAN) to improve the detection performance of small objects. Firstly, an innovative Multi-branch Attention Module (MBAM) is proposed, which consists of two parts, i.e. Multi-branch structure consisting of convolution and maxpooling, and the parameter-free SimAM attention mechanism. By combining these two parts, the number of network parameters is reduced, the information loss of small objects is reduced, and the representation of small object features is enhanced. Furthermore, to systematically solve the problem of small object localization, a pre-processing method called Adaptive Clustering Relocation (ACR) is proposed. To validate our network, we conducted extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, i.e. NWPU VHR-10 and PASCAL VOC. The findings from the experiment demonstrates the significant performance gains of MBAN over most existing algorithms, the mAP of MBAN achieved 96.55% and 84.96% on NWPU VHR-10 and PASCAL VOC datasets, respectively, which proves that MBAN has significant performance in small object detection.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the association between vitamin D level and grip strength in people aged ≥50 years in Shanghai. Methods: Data were obtained from the WHO's Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health in Shanghai during 2018-2019. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between vitamin D level and grip strength, and a stratified analysis was conducted for different gender, age and dairy product intake groups. Restricted cubic spline was used to evaluate the dose-response association between vitamin D level and low grip strength. Results: A total of 4 391 participants were included in the study, including 2 054 men (46.8%), with an average age of (67.02±8.81) years. And 1 421 individuals (32.4%) had low grip strength; 1 533 individuals (34.9%) had vitamin D deficiency, and 401 individuals (9.1%) had vitamin D deficiency. After adjusted for confounding factors, the logistic regression results analysis showed that individuals with vitamin D deficiency had a higher risk for low grip strength (OR=1.41, 95%CI: 1.09-1.83). In men, after adjusting for confounding factors, vitamin D deficiency was positively associated with the risk for low grip strength (OR=1.67, 95%CI: 1.12-2.50), but there was no significant association between vitamin D level and grip strength in women (OR=1.30, 95%CI: 0.97-1.74). In age group 60-69 years and ≥80 years, there was significant association between vitamin D deficiency and low grip strength after adjusting for confounding factors (OR=1.57, 95%CI: 1.05-2.35; OR=2.40, 95%CI: 1.08-5.31). In people who had daily intake of dairy product <250 ml, there was positive association between vitamin D deficiency and low grip strength, but there was no significant association in people who had daily dairy product ≥250 ml after adjusting for confounding factors. The restrictive cubic spline demonstrated that risk of low grip strength might decreased with the increase of vitamin D levels, however, the difference was not significant (P>0.05). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that there is association between vitamin D level and grip strength. People with vitamin D deficiency have higher risk for low grip strength.

Abstract
Locus coeruleus (LC) dysfunction is involved in the pathophysiology of depression; however, the neural circuits and specific molecular mechanisms responsible for this dysfunction remain unclear. Here, it is shown that activation of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) neurons in the LC alleviates depression-like behaviors in susceptible mice. The dorsolateral septum (dLS) is the most physiologically relevant output from the LC under stress. Stimulation of the LCTH -dLSSST innervation with optogenetic and chemogenetic tools bidirectionally can regulate depression-like behaviors in both male and female mice. Mechanistically, it is found that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), but not norepinephrine, is required for the circuit to produce antidepressant-like effects. Genetic overexpression of BDNF in the circuit or supplementation with BDNF protein in the dLS is sufficient to produce antidepressant-like effects. Furthermore, viral knockdown of BDNF in this circuit abolishes the antidepressant-like effect of ketamine, but not fluoxetine. Collectively, these findings underscore the notable antidepressant-like role of the LCTH -dLSSST pathway in depression via BDNF-TrkB signaling.

Abstract
The investigation of the pathophysiological mechanisms and potential applications of impaired ventilatory efficiency in cardiopulmonary exercise testing has received considerable attention in the field of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) research worldwide. A growing body of evidence supports the notion that impaired ventilatory efficiency is an important indicator of exertional dyspnea, reduced exercise capacity, and mortality in patients with COPD. As a result, ventilatory efficiency is emerging as a promising therapeutic target for alleviating dyspnea in COPD patients. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the research progress into impaired ventilatory efficiency in patients with COPD. The primary objective of this review is to improve the understanding of COPD patients with impaired ventilatory efficiency, with the ultimate goal of facilitating the comprehensive assessment and management of COPD.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate dietary patterns of individuals aged ≥50 in Shanghai and analyze their association with frailty. Methods: Using data from the third wave of the Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health in Shanghai conducted between 2018 and 2019. We collected the frequency and average intake of food by the food frequency questionnaire. Factor analysis was used to extract dietary patterns, and a frailty index was constructed using the ratio of the cumulative total score of health deficits to 35 health-related variables considered. We used an ordinal multinomial logistic regression model to analyze the association between dietary patterns and frailty. Results: A total of 3 274 participants aged (67.9±9.2) years were included in the study, including 1 971 (60.2%) men and 1 303 (39.8%) women. We extracted four dietary patterns: high-protein-nuts pattern, potato-bean-vegetable-fruit pattern, poultry-meat pattern, and high-oil-salt pattern. After adjusting for confounding factors, the logistic regression analysis showed that compared with the high-oil-salt pattern, the high-protein-nuts pattern was negatively associated with the risk of higher frailty (OR=0.743, 95%CI: 0.580-0.951). We did not find an association between dietary patterns and frailty between the different gender groups. In the age group 50-64, the high-protein-nuts and potato-bean-vegetable-fruit patterns were negatively correlated with a higher degree of frailty than the high-oil-salt pattern. In the low-level physical activity group, the high-protein-nuts pattern was negatively correlated with a higher degree of frailty than the high-oil-salt pattern (OR=0.509, 95%CI: 0.361-0.720). However, we found no significant effect of the high-protein nuts pattern, potato-bean-vegetable-fruit pattern, and poultry-meat pattern on the risk of higher frailty compared to the high-oil-salt pattern in the moderate to high level of physical activity group. Conclusions: Compared to the high-oil-salt pattern, dietary patterns with a higher intake of high-protein nuts, potatoes, legumes, and fruits and vegetables might be associated with a lower risk of higher frailty in residents aged 50-64 years of age than with a high oil and salt pattern. At the same time, it may have a more significant protective effect in people with lower physical activity levels. It is suggested that a diet rich in high-protein foods, nuts, potatoes, beans, vegetables, and fruits may help reduce and delay the risk of frailty.

Abstract
We reported the anti-cervical cancer effect of proprietary saponin content from seeds of Impatiens balsamina L., Hosenkoside A. Our study found that Hosenkoside A significantly promotes cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest after administration, exhibiting anti-tumor effects. Then the transcriptome sequencing results after administration showed that Hosenkoside A had a significant inhibitory effect on Histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3). After sufficient administration time, the inhibition of HDAC3 expression level leads to a significant decrease in lysine acetylation at histone 3 sites 4 and 9, blocking the activation of Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and achieving anti-tumor effects. In addition, we encapsulated Hosenkoside A into polypeptide metal complexes (PMC) to form slow-release spheres. This material breaks down in the tumor environment, not only does it solve the problem of low drug solubility, but it also achieves targeted sustained-release drug delivery. Under the same concentration of stimulation, the PMC complex group showed better anti-tumor effects in both in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Abstract
In the context of carbon neutrality, promoting resource utilization of industrial alkali lignin addressing heavy metal pollution is crucial for China's pollution alleviation and carbon reduction. Microwave pyrolysis produced functionalized biochar from industrial alkali lignin for Ni(II) adsorption. LB400 achieved 343.15 mg g-1 saturated adsorption capacity in 30 min. Pseudo-second-order kinetic and Temkin isotherm models accurately described the adsorption, which was endothermic and spontaneous (ΔGϴ < 0, ΔHϴ > 0). Quantitative analysis revealed that both dissolved substances and carbon skeleton from biochar contributed to adsorption, with the former predominates (93.76%), including mineral precipitation NiCO3 (Qp) and adsorption of dissolved organic matter (QDOM). Surface complexation (Qc) and ion exchange (Qi) on the carbon skeleton accounted for 6.3%. Higher biochar preparation temperature reduced Ni(II) adsorption by dissolved substances. Overall, biochar which comes from the advantageous disposal of industrial lignin effectively removes Ni(II) contamination, encouraging ecologically sound treatment of heavy metal pollution and sustainable resource utilization.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors and pembrolizumab in the treatment of driver gene-negative advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 1 241 patients with driver gene-negative, unresectable stage ⅢB to Ⅳ non-small cell lung cancer who were treated at the Hunan Cancer Hospital from January 1, 2017 to October 1, 2022. All patients received monotherapy or combination therapy with domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors or pembrolizumab. Among the 1 241 patients, there were 1 066 males and 175 females, with an age range of 14 to 84 years and a median age of 62 years. Among them, 67 patients received monotherapy with domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors, 695 patients received combination therapy with domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors, 102 patients received monotherapy with pembrolizumab, and 377 patients received combination therapy with pembrolizumab. The efficacy and safety of domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors and pembrolizumab monotherapy or combination therapy were compared. Results: In the immune checkpoint inhibitor monotherapy group, the objective response rate (ORR) using domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors and pembrolizumab was 43.3%(29/67) and 44.1%(45/102), respectively, and the disease control rate (DCR) was 79.1%(53/67) and 84.3%(86/102), respectively, with no statistically significant differences (both P>0.05). In the immune combination therapy group, the ORR using domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors and pembrolizumab was 60.9%(423/695) and 62.9%(237/377), respectively, and the DCR was 92.9%(646/695) and 91.0%(343/377), respectively, with no statistically significant differences (both P>0.05). In the immune checkpoint inhibitor monotherapy group, the median progression-free survival (PFS) using domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors and pembrolizumab was 9.0 (95%CI: 3.0-15.0) months and 7.4 (95%CI: 4.8-9.8) months, respectively, with no statistically significant differences (P=0.660). The median overall survival (OS) was 27.0 (95%CI: 25.0-29.0) months and 22.0 (95%CI: 17.1-26.9) months, respectively, with no statistically significant differences (P=0.673). In the immune combination therapy group, the median PFS using domestic immune checkpoint inhibitors and pembrolizumab was 9.0 (95%CI: 8.2-9.8) months and 10.5 (95%CI: 9.0-12.0) months, respectively, with no statistically significant differences (P=0.186). The median OS was 24.0 (95%CI: 19.1-28.9) months and 26.0 (95%CI: 21.3-30.7) months, respectively, with no statistically significant differences (P=0.359). The incidence of grade 1-2 reactive capillary proliferation of the skin in the domestic immune checkpoint inhibitor group and pembrolizumab group was 14.0% (107/762) and 0, respectively. The incidence of grade≥3 reactive capillary proliferation of the skin was 1.0% (7/762) and 0, respectively, with statistically significant differences (both P<0.05). No statistically significant differences were observed in other adverse reactions (all P>0.05). Conclusions: The efficacy of domestically produced immune checkpoint inhibitors is comparable to that of pembrolizumab in the treatment of driver gene-negative advanced non-small cell lung cancer. There is little difference in safety, except for the specific difference in domestically produced immune checkpoint inhibitor, which has a unique risk of reactive cutaneous capillary endothelial proliferation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The causal relationship between gut microbiota and peripheral artery disease (PAD) is still not clear. In this research, we employed the Mendelian randomization (MR) technique to explore the potential causal connection between 211 gut microbiota species and PAD. We also investigated whether the causal effects operate in both directions. METHODS We used Genome-wide Association Studies (GWAS) summary statistics data from the MiBioGen and FinnGen consortia to conduct a two-sample MR analysis to explore the causal link between gut microbiota and PAD. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to assess the robustness of the MR results. In addition to that, reverse MR analysis was performed to examine the inverse causal relationship. RESULTS The inverse variance weighted (IVW) method provided evidence supporting a causal relationship between 9 specific gut microbiota taxa and PAD. The study findings indicated that family Family XI (OR=1.11, CI 1.00-1.24, P=0.048), genus Lachnoclostridium (OR=1.24, 1.02-1.50, P=0.033), and genus Lachnospiraceae UCG001 (OR=1.17, 1.01-1.35, P=0.031) are risk factors associated with PAD. class Actinobacteria (OR=0.84, 0.72-0.99, P=0.034), family Acidaminococcaceae (OR=0.80, 0.66-0.98, P=0.029), genus Coprococcus2 (OR=0.79, 0.64-0.98, P=0.029), genus Ruminococcaceae UCG004 (OR=0.84, 0.72-0.99, P=0.032), genus Ruminococcaceae UCG010 (OR=0.74, 0.58-0.96, P=0.022), and order NB1n (OR=0.88, 0.79-0.98, P=0.02) may be associated with the risk factors of PAD. Moreover, our analysis did not uncover any evidence of a reverse causal relationship between PAD and the nine specific gut microbiota taxa investigated. CONCLUSIONS Our MR research has confirmed the potential causal relationship between gut microbiota and PAD while also identifying specific gut bacterial communities associated with PAD.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression of CD103+CD8+T cells in locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma (LA-OSCC), and the response to neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (NACI). Methods: Thirty LA-OSCC patients from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, who underwent NACI from June 2020 to December 2022 were analyzed, including 16 responders and 14 non-responders. Using multiple immunofluorescence technique to stain sections of patients to verify the correlation between the expression of CD103+CD8+T cells and the efficacy of NACI. CD103+CD8+T cell density was counted using Inform and HALO software. The Spearman correlation coefficient in rank correlation is used to describe the correlation between CD103+CD8+T cell and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immune inflammation index (SII) It's effectiveness as a predictive marker to NACI was analyzed by receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA). Two-tailed t-test or Mann-Whitney U-test was used to compare data between two groups, and one-way ANOVA was used to compare data between multiple groups. SPSS 22.0 and GraphPad prism 9.0 software were used for statistical analysis and plotting of relevant statistical graphs such as histograms. P<0.05 was considered a statistically significant difference. Results: The density of CD103+CD8+T cells has expanded in advanced OSCC patients who are responsive to NACI. The CD103+CD8+T cell densities in the responsive and nonresponsive groups were 118.30(41.92, 197.80) pcs/mm2 and 21.63(4.91, 71.92) pcs/mm2 respectively, with statistically significant differences(U=52.00, P=0.012). CD103+CD8+T cell abundance was negatively correlated with NLR, dNLR, PLR, and SII (P<0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that the AUC for predicting efficacy of NLR, dNLR, PLR, and SII were 0.781 (P=0.009, 95%CI: 0.5715-0.9910), 0.671 (P=0.105, 95%CI: 0.467-0.881), 0.679 (P=0.020 95%CI: 0.549-0.951), 0.750 (P=0.096, 95%CI: 0.461-0.896), respectively. The AUC for CD103+CD8+T cells alone was 0.861 (P=0.013, 95%CI: 0.585-0.950), and the AUC of combining CD103+CD8+T cells with NLR was 0.896 (P=0.025, 95%CI: 0.454-0.938). Conclusions: The density of CD103+CD8+T cells is expanded in advanced OSCC patients who are responsive to NACI. CD103+CD8+T cells positively predict favorable responses as a strong indicator to NACI in advanced OSCC patients. Co-interpretation of CD103+CD8+T cells and NLR value enhances the predictive accuracy of NACI in advanced OSCC patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the efficiency of multiple etiological techniques for detection of Schistosoma japonicum infections in wild mice, so as to provide technical supports to assessment of schistosomiasis transmission risk. METHODS Wild mice were captured with baited traps at night in Oncomelania hupensis snail-infested settings in schistosomiasis-endemic foci of Anhui Province from October to November, 2022. S. japonicum infections were detected in wild mice using microscopy of mouse liver tissues, microscopy of mouse mesenteric tissues, microscopy of mouse liver tissue homogenates, miracidial hatching test of mouse liver tissue homogenates, Kato-Katz technique and miracidial hatching test of mouse stool samples alone and in combinations. Identification of S. japonicum eggs or miracidia by any of these six assays was defined as an infection. The sensitivity of six assays alone or in combinations was compared for detection of S. japonicum infections in wild mice. RESULTS A total of 1 703 wild mice were captured, with 366 wild mice detected positive for S. japonicum (21.49%). There were significant differences in the prevalence of S. japonicum infections in wild mice by six assays (Q = 529.33, P < 0.001) and in the sensitivity of six assays for detection of S. japonicum infections in wild mice (χ2 = 527.78, P < 0.001). In addition, the combination of microscopy of mouse liver tissues and mesenteric tissues, combination of microscopy of mouse liver tissues and liver tissue homogenates and combination of microscopy of mouse liver tissues, microscopy of mesenteric tissues, microscopy of liver tissue homogenates and Kato-Katz technique showed 86.61%, 87.16% and 97.27% sensitivities for detection of S. japonicum infections in wild mice, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Diverse etiological assays show various efficiencies for detection of S. japonicum infections in wild mice. Combination of microscopy of mouse liver tissues and microscopy of mesenteric tissues, and combination of microscopy of mouse liver tissues and microscopy of liver tissue homogenates are potential approaches for field detection of S. japonicum infections in wild mice.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the clinical characteristics of epileptic seizure associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Methods: From January 2017 to July 2023 at Children's Hospital Capital Institute of Pediatrics, medical records of patients with both NF1 and epileptic seizure were reviewed in this case series study. The clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis were analyzed retrospectively. Results: A total of 15 patients(12 boys and 3 girls) were collected. Café-au-lait macules were observed in all 15 patients. There were 6 patients with neurodevelopmental disorders and the main manifestations were intellectual disability or developmental delay. The age at the first epileptic seizure was 2.5 (1.2, 5.5) years. There were various seizure types, including generalized tonic-clonic seizures in 8 patients, focal motor seizures in 6 patients, epileptic spasm in 4 patients, tonic seizures in 1 patient, absence in 1 patient, generalized myoclonic seizure in 1 patient and focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizure in 1 patient. Among 14 patients whose brain magnetic resonance imaging results were available, there were abnormal signals in corpus callosum, basal ganglia, thalamus or cerebellum in 6 patients, dilated ventricles of different degrees in 3 patients, blurred gray and white matter boundary in 2 patients, agenesis of corpus callosum in 1 patient and no obvious abnormalities in the other patients. Among 13 epilepsy patients, 8 were seizure-free with 1 or 2 antiseizure medications(ASM), 1 with drug resistant epilepsy was seizure-free after left temporal lobectomy, and the other 4 patients who have received 2 to 9 ASM had persistent seizures. One patient with complex febrile convulsion achieved seizure freedom after oral administration of diazepam on demand. One patient had only 1 unprovoked epileptic seizure and did not have another seizure without taking any ASM. Conclusions: The first epileptic seizure in NF1 patients usually occurs in infancy and early childhood, with the main seizure type of generalized tonic-clonic seizure and focal motor seizure. Some patients have intellectual disability or developmental delay. Most epilepsy patients achieve seizure freedom with ASM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have reported the tumor suppressive role of miR-5195-3p in the progression of several cancers, but the potential roles of miR-5195-3p in ovarian cancer (OC) remain largely unknown. METHODS We first analyzed the expression levels of miR-5195-3p in 83 pairs of human OC tissues and adjacent specimens by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The correlation of miR-5195-3p/rhomboid domain containing 1 (RHBDD1) and clinicopathological parameters was analyzed by chi-square test. The prognostic value of miR-5195-3p was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier method Cox proportional hazards models. The effects of miR-5195-3p on cell proliferation, cell cycle distribution, migration and invasion were examined by CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, flow cytometry and transwell assay. Tumor forming was evaluated by nude mice model in vivo. The association between miR-5195-3p and RHBDD1 was verified by luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS We observed that miR-5195-3p level was remarkably reduced in OC tissues as compared to adjacent tissues. The expression of miR-5195-3p was associated with FIGO stage, depth of invasion and poor survival prognosis in OC patients. Overexpression of miR-5195-3p significantly suppressed cell proliferation, cell cycle G1/S transition, migration and invasion in OC cell lines (SKOV-3 and OVCAR3), while knockdown of miR-5195-3p obtained the opposite results. We further confirmed miR-5195-3p as a negative post-transcriptional modulator of RHBDD1. RHBDD1 expression was upregulated in OC tissues compared with adjacent tissues, which was inversely correlated with miR-5195-3p expression. The expression of RHBDD1 was associated with FIGO stage and distant metastasis. RHBDD1 overexpression reversed the suppressive role of miR-5195-3p on OC cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Consistent with the in vitro results, miR-5195-3p overexpression decreased the growth of subcutaneously inoculated tumors in nude mice. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, the present results indicated that miR-5195-3p acts a tumor suppressor by targeting RHBDD1 in OC.

Abstract
People are exposed to a variety of different harmful factors through their daily life, diet, and occupational environment, and exposure to these dangerous factors results in varying degrees of damage to the organism. The damage to mitochondria from exposure to chemical harmful factors in environment is of increasing concern. The integrity of the mitochondrial genome is critical for mitochondrial function and cellular homeostasis, and mitochondria are susceptible to damage and mitochondrial dysfunction when stimulated by various harmful chemical environmental factors. It has been shown that exposure to a variety of chemical pollutants can produce varying degrees of damage to mitochondria, and these pollutants may cause mitochondrial structural and functional disorders by inducing oxidative stress, including impaired electron respiratory chain transmission, alterations in mitochondrial membrane potential, mitochondrial DNA mutations/deletions, and mitochondrial DNA copy number variation. Mitochondrial damage can further lead to abnormal cell function, apoptosis, and death, which induce related diseases. Therefore, this paper provides a review of the role of chemical factor exposure in the environment, such as heavy metals, on mitochondrial damage.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to critically evaluate the diagnostic yields of direct immunofluorescence (DIF) analysis on perilesional and normal-appearing mucosa biopsy samples, to determine the optimal biopsy site for patients presenting with oral pemphigus vulgaris (PV) or mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP). Electronic databases and article bibliographies were searched in December 2022. The primary outcome was the rate of DIF positivity. Of 374 records identified after the elimination of duplicates, 21 studies with 1027 samples were ultimately included. Meta-analysis revealed a pooled DIF positivity rate of 99.6% (95% confidence interval (CI) 97.4-100.0%, I2 = 0%) for PV and 92.6% (95% CI 87.9-96.5%, I2 = 44%) for MMP for biopsies from perilesional sites, and of 95.4% (95% CI 88.6-99.5%, I2 = 0%) for PV and 94.1% (95% CI 86.5-99.2%, I2 = 42%) for MMP for biopsies from normal-appearing sites. For MMP, there was no significant difference in the rate of DIF positivity between the two biopsy sites (odds ratio 1.91, 95% CI 0.91-4.01, I2 = 0%). The results suggest that the perilesional mucosa remains the optimal biopsy site for DIF diagnosis of oral PV, while the normal-appearing mucosa biopsy is optimal for oral MMP.

Abstract
After skin injury, wound repair involves a complex process in which angiogenesis plays a crucial role. Previous research has indicated that fucoidan may aid in wound healing; we therefore hypothesised that fucoidan may speed up the process by promoting angiogenesis. In this study, we investigated the potential molecular mechanism underlying fucoidan's ability to accelerate wound healing by promoting angiogenesis. Using a full-cut wound model, we observed that fucoidan significantly intensified wound closure and promoted granulation formation and collagen deposition. Immunofluorescence staining revealed that fucoidan also promoted wound angiogenesis, specifically by accelerating the migration of new blood vessels to the middle area of the wound. Furthermore, fucoidan demonstrated the ability to enhance the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) damaged by hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) and to improve the formation of endothelial tubes. Mechanistic studies revealed that fucoidan upregulated the protein levels of the AKT/Nrf2/HIF-1α signalling pathway, which plays a crucial role in angiogenesis. This was further confirmed using the inhibitor LY294002, which reversed the promotion of endothelial tube formation by fucoidan. Overall, our findings suggest that fucoidan can promote angiogenesis via the AKT/Nrf2/HIF-1α signalling pathway and accelerate wound healing.

Abstract
This study systematically reviewed the clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for depression in children and adolescents and assessed the quality and recommendation consistency of those CPGs. Evidence mapping was presented to illustrate the research trends and identify gaps to guide future research. Literature on CPGs for depression was systematically collected from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, guideline databases, and psychiatric association/ society websites. The basic information, recommendations, methodological quality, and reporting quality of CPGs were extracted, and the supporting evidence strength for the included CPGs was analyzed in Excel. Four appraisers independently assessed the eligible CPGs using AGREE II instrument and the RIGHT checklist. All recommendations from the CPGs were summarized and analyzed, and the evidence mapping bubble charts were plotted in Excel. After excluding 15,184 records, 12 depression CPGs were eventually proved eligible, six of which were of high quality and six medium quality. A total of 39 major recommendations were summarized, 35 of which were supported by high-quality CPGs. Although direct comparisons are challenging due to differences in grading schemes and research quality, most CPGs share many pivotal recommendations that can help guide clinical practice. However, the evidence for some clinical problems is still lacking. Thus, more research is necessary on the screening and treatment of children and adolescents to put forward more evidence-based and high-quality recommendations.

Abstract
Chemical C-N coupling from CO2 and NO3-, driven by renewable electricity, toward urea synthesis is an appealing alternative for Bosch-Meiser urea production. However, the unmatched kinetics in CO2 and NO3- reduction reactions and the complexity of C- and N-species involved in the co-reduction render the challenge of C-N coupling, leading to the low urea yield rate and Faradaic efficiency. Here, we report a single-atom copper-alloyed Pd catalyst (Pd4Cu1) that can achieve highly efficient C-N coupling toward urea electrosynthesis. The reduction kinetics of CO2 and NO3- is regulated and matched by steering Cu doping level and Pd4Cu1/FeNi(OH)2 interface. Charge-polarized Pdδ--Cuδ+ dual-sites stabilize the key *CO and *NH2 intermediates to promote C-N coupling. The synthesized Pd4Cu1-FeNi(OH)2 composite catalyst achieves a urea yield rate of 436.9 mmol gcat.-1 h-1 and Faradaic efficiency of 66.4%, as well as a long cycling stability of 1000 h. In-situ spectroscopic results and theoretical calculation reveal that atomically dispersed Cu in Pd lattice promotes the deep reduction of NO3- to *NH2, and the Pd-Cu dual-sites lower the energy barrier of the pivotal C-N coupling between *NH2 and *CO.

Abstract
Pre-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Pre-COPD) refers to individuals with chronic respiratory symptoms, structural abnormalities, and/or functional abnormalities, in the absence of airflow limitation, who may develop persistent airflow limitation over time. COPD is characterized by high prevalence and great heterogeneity and complexity. Early multidimensional identification and promotion of early prevention, management and treatment of Pre-COPD can help delay or halt the development of COPD, which has significant public health implications. This review aimed to summarize the definition, relevant cohorts, clinical trials, and other research progress in pre-COPD in order to improve the understanding of individuals with pre-COPD and improve early prevention and management of COPD.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Immunotherapy combined with radiotherapy (iRT) has unlimited potential, but up to 60% of cancer patients do not benefit from it. Enhancing the anti-tumor immune stimulatory effect triggered by radiotherapy is the key to overcome iRT resistance. Immunoglobulin-like transcript (ILT) 4 is a potential immune checkpoint molecule, highly expressed in various tumor cells, but its role in radiotherapy is still unknown. This study confirmed the role and molecular mechanism of ILT4 in suppressing radiotherapy immunosuppressive microenvironment formation and promoting tumor radiotherapy resistance. We propose a new therapeutic strategy that block ILT4 to enhance the efficacy of radiotherapy, and cooperate with radiotherapy to reverse immunotherapy resistance. MATERIALS/METHODS Using multiplex immunohistochemistry, we analyzed ILT4 expression, tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) /T cell phenotype and quantity in tumor patient treated with SBRT. Using mice subcutaneous tumor models, Single-cell RNA sequencing and multiplex flowcytometry, we assessed the role of ILT4 inhibition and hyper-fractionated radiotherapy (HFRT) on preventing tumor growth and immune escape. The molecular signaling and cytokines regulated by ILT4 under HFRT were analyzed by transcriptome sequencing and further verified by molecular experiments. By establishing cancer cell/TAM co-culture system in vitro, using CXCL1 protein or CXCR2 inhibitor and macrophage/CD8+ T cell deletion antibody in vivo, we identified the downstream pathway and cytokine of ILT4 to enhancing HFRT -induced TAM immune response. RESULTS In the tumor specimens of NSCLC patients treated with SBRT, we found that high ILT4 expression predicted poor progression-free survival and more M2-TAM recruitment. Among the C57BL/6 mice model, ILT4 inhibition in cancer cells reduced HFRT mediated M2-TAMs accumulation, and to sustain activation and proliferation of CD8+ T cells, and eventually suppressed tumor progression. Mechanistically, RT promoted ILT4 expression, which subsequently induced NF-κB pathway activation and CXCL1 secretion to enhance M2-TAMs migration in vitro. Using CXCL1 protein or CXCR2 inhibitor administration, inferring that ILT4 promotes TAMs migration via NF-κB-CXCL1-CXCR2 axis. Consistently, depletion of TAMs blocked the T cell function impairment and radiotherapy resistance induced by ILT4 in vivo. Importantly, targeting ILT4 potentiated the effect of radiotherapy, overcomes radio-immunotherapy treatment resistance. CONCLUSION ILT4 mediates HFRT-induced M2-like TAMs recruitment and subsequently T cell response impairment by regulating NF-κB-CXCL1-CXCR2 axis. ILT4 is an attractive drug target for enhancing radiotherapy and overcomes radio-immunotherapy treatment resistance.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Magnetic Resonance guided adaptive radiotherapy (MRgART) allows plan adaptation according to the new patient anatomy; the contours of the structures are adjusted based on the patient's daily MRI, and in the adapt to shape (ATS) workflow, the adapted plan is recalculated on the MRI-based synthetic CT (sCT) generated by bulk density assignment. For sites where there is a high electronic density (ED) gradient between the target and surrounding tissues, such as in lung cancer treatments, the assignment of an average ED may not be able to reproduce an accurate dose calculation. This study evaluates the accuracy of the sCT adapted plan calculation for lung cancer patients and assesses whether the assignment of an optimized ED can reduce dosimetric differences should they arise MATERIALS/METHODS: Nine lung cancer patients treated at Unity 1.5 MR-Linac were selected for this retrospective study. The patient's target and organs at risk (OARs) were contoured, and a CT reference plan containing the ED bulk assignment information i.e., the contours to use in the ATS workflow, and their corresponding average ED was generated. To assess the accuracy of the dosimetry of the adapted plan calculated on the sCT, the plan was recalculated on an ideal sCT (sCTref) obtained from the reference CT by forcing the drawn contours to the average ED as defined on the CT reference plan. Targets and OARs dose-volume histogram (DVH) of the CT and sCTref plans and the dose distributions using gamma (γ) analysis with 2%-2mm criteria were compared. In the case of a discrepancy between the DVHs, the average Eds used for the recalculation on the sCTref were adjusted by several attempts to obtain a sCT optimized (sCTopt) for which a superposition of DVHs on CT and sCTopt was achieved. RESULTS For 7 of the 9 patients CT and sCTref target DVHs were not comparable, with a mean dosimetric difference of 5.55% (range 2.35%-7.46%) in the target volume receiving the prescription dose (VDpre), while OARs DVH dose differences remained below 1% for the nine patients. The adjustment of the ED of the homolateral lung in the sCTopt, reduced the mean target VDpre dosimetric difference between CT and sCTopt to 0.66% (range 0.17%-1.64%). In addition, the results of the gamma analysis increased from values ranging between 39.5%-70.3% to 88.5%-93.2%, as shown in the Table. CONCLUSION Dosimetric errors in the use of the sCT calculation for targets in high ED gradient areas may arise; the use of optimized ED for sCT calculation may be a promising strand to investigate in order to proceed with MR-based sCT plan adaptation for lung cancer treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Survival rates for women with metastatic cervical cancer (CC) are low, with limited management options. Radiation therapy (RT) for metastatic disease has led to prolonged survival in other malignancies, however, the data are scarce in CC. Herein, we evaluated the effect of RT for metastatic CC. MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 58 patients with metastatic CC between September 2019 and January 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients were treated with platinum-based chemotherapy combined with targeted therapy or immunotherapy followed with or without RT (NRT). The recent efficacy, survival status and prognostic factors were analyzed statistically. RESULTS Objective response rate (ORR) was 63.6% with one complete and twenty partial responses in RT group (n = 33) and 40.0% with two complete and eight partial responses in NRT group (n = 25), respectively (p = 0.074). Disease control rate (DCR) of the RT and NRT groups were 79.4% vs 80.0%, respectively (p = 0.861). Median follow-up time was 17 months (3-39months). In RT group, 11(33.3%) patients experienced local regional or distant failure and 9 (27.3%) patients were dead. In NRT group, 15(60%) patients had progression and 8 (32%) patients dead. There was no significant difference between the two groups in overall survival (OS); however, RT group displayed superior progression-free survival (PFS) (1-year OS: 72.7% vs. 68.0%, p = 0.460; 1-year PFS: 66.7% vs. 40.0%, p = 0.039). The multivariate analysis showed that RT, immunotherapy, lymph node metastasis only relevant predictor of superior PFS but not OS. In subgroup analysis, patients treated with RT appeared to have a better PFS in some specific cohorts, such as age>45 years (72.0% vs 36.4% P = 0.015), squamous carcinoma histology (71.0% vs 40.9% P = 0.017), metastatic at diagnosis (75.0% vs 47.6% P = 0.012), non-targeted therapy (72.4% vs 43.8% P = 0.040). No significant increase in treatment-related toxicity was observed in the RT group compared with the NRT group. CONCLUSION RT provided superior PFS in metastatic CC patients compared to NRT, and well tolerated. Moreover, RT, immunotherapy, lymph node metastasis only were independent significant prognostic factors for PFS. Subgroup analysis showed that combination of RT and chemotherapy obtained favorable PFS in metastatic CC patients with age>45 years, squamous carcinoma histology, metastatic at diagnosis, non-targeted therapy. Studies with a larger sample size and longer follow-up are warranted.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Primary small cell carcinoma of esophageal (PSCCE) is a rare malignancy with aggressive behavior associated with a perceived poor prognosis. Due to its rarity, the clinical characteristics and the optimal clinical management have not yet been defined, therefore, we designed a multicenter retrospective study to analyze the prognostic factors and the impact of treatment on the prognosis of PSCCE patients. MATERIALS/METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 704 consecutive patients with PSCCE from five participating centers between April 2008 and July 2021. The PSCCE was diagnosed based on the World Health Organization classification. Treatment strategies included surgery, radiotherapy (RT), or chemotherapy only, and combination of 2-3 treatment modalities (surgery, RT and chemotherapy). The estimated hazard rates provide the trajectory of progression and death overtime. Univariate survival analysis was conducted by using Kaplan-Meier plots, and the log-rank test was used to compare survival differences. Cox regression analysis was used to determine the independent prognostic factors in multivariate analysis. RESULTS Overall, 69.0% (486/704) of the patients were male, with a median age of 63 years (range 38-96). Most of the patients were regional lymph node positive (N+, 64.0%), and nearly half with advanced stage (M+, 47.2%). With a median follow-up time of 16 months, 472 patients (67.0%) exhibited disease progression and 429 patients (60.9%) died. Following initial treatment, 85.1% (402/472) of progression/death and 80.1% (344/429) of mortalities occurred within 24 months. Consistently, the maximum annual death and progression/death hazards are highest in the 15.6 months and 9.6 months. The overall survival (OS) rates at 1, 3 and 5 years for all patients were 65.1%, 26.5% and 18.3%, respectively. Univariate survival analysis showed that ECOG score, alcohol abuse, TNM stage, N stage, and M stage were correlated with OS (P <0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that the N stage (HR: 1.378, P = 0.018) and M stage (HR: 1.945, P <0.001) carried independent prognostic factors for OS. In the term of treatment, the OS rates for M- patients treated with combined modality therapy (CMT, surgery±radiotherapy/chemotherapy) were better than those treated with surgery alone or radiotherapy/chemotherapy (3-year OS: 36.7% VS 25.6% VS 32.2%; P = 0.045). The OS rates for M+ patients treated with chemotherapy alone, radiotherapy alone, or radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy were no significant differences (3-year OS: 12.2% VS 19.4% VS 11.1%; P = 0.400). CONCLUSION PSCCE is characterized by a high degree of malignancy with high risks of lymphatic and distant metastasis, N and M stages are the most important prognostic factor. In terms of treatment, comprehensive treatment is most likely to benefit patients without distant metastasis.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The use of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) with flattening-filter-free (FFF) beams is becoming more prevalent in lung cancer stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). The aim in this study was to assess the impact of dosimetric and radiobiological differences between FFF and flattening filter (FF) beams for lung SBRT based on the target volume. MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 198 lung stereotactic body radiation therapy treatment plans with FFF beams and FF beams were retrospectively selected for this study. For all plans, the prescribed dose was 50 Gy/5 fractions, and the dose volume histogram (DVH) for the target and organs at risk (OAR) and the normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) of the lung were recorded and compared. Moreover, monitor units (MUs), the beam on-time and the treatment time were evaluated. The study was performed following the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) 0813 and 0915 protocols. RESULTS No significant differences in D90, coverage rate (CR) or conformity index (CI) of the target were observed between FFF beams and FF beams (p>0.05). The D2, R50% and gradient index (GI) for the target improved with FFF beams compared with FF beams (p<0.05). FFF beams also significantly reduced the dose for the lung, heart, spinal cord, esophagus and NTCP of the lung (p<0.05), compared with FF beams. However, there was no significant difference in sparing of the trachea (p>0.05). The mean MUs, beam on-time and treatment time were 1871±278 MUs, 3.2 ±0.2 min and 3.9 ±0.3 min for FFF beams, and 1890±260 MUs, 4.2±0.3 min and 4.8 ±0.4 min for FF beams, respectively. CONCLUSION The FFF beam technique for lung SBRT with VMAT results in a better dose fall-off, better dose-sparing of OAR, lower NTCP of the lung and a shorter beam on-time compared with the FF beam technique. Additionally, the improvement in target and OAR-sparing for FFF beams was increased with increasing target volume.

Abstract
Developing highly active and robust oxygen catalysts is of great significance for the commercialization of Zn-air batteries (ZABs) with long-life stability. Herein, heterostructured catalysts comprising molybdenum carbide and metallic Co are prepared by a simple dicyandiamide-assisted pyrolysis strategy. Importantly, the crystalline phase of molybdenum carbide in the catalysts can be carefully regulated by adjusting the CoMo-imidazole precursor and dicyandiamide ratio. The electronic configuration of Co and Mo centers as well as the phase-dependent oxygen reduction reaction performance of these heterostructures (β-Mo2C/Co, β-Mo2C/η-MoC/Co, and η-MoC/Co) was disclosed. A highly active η-MoC/Co cathode enables ZABs with outstanding long-term stability over 850 h with a low voltage decaying rate of 0.06 mV·h-1 and high peak power density of 162 mW·cm-2. This work provides a new idea for the rational design of efficient and stable cathode catalysts for ZABs.

Abstract
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a highly heterogeneous mental disorder, and its complex etiology and unclear mechanism are great obstacles to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Studies have shown that abnormal functions of the visual cortex have been reported in MDD patients, and the actions of several antidepressants coincide with improvements in the structure and synaptic functions of the visual cortex. In this review, we critically evaluate current evidence showing the involvement of the malfunctioning visual cortex in the pathophysiology and therapeutic process of depression. In addition, we discuss the molecular mechanisms of visual cortex dysfunction that may underlie the pathogenesis of MDD. Although the precise roles of visual cortex abnormalities in MDD remain uncertain, this undervalued brain region may become a novel area for the treatment of depressed patients.

Abstract
Objective: To study the long-term clinical effect of transvaginal mesh (TVM) and pelvic floor reconstruction with native tissue repair (NTR) in the treatment of advanced pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Methods: Totally 207 patients with advanced POP who were treated in Hunan Provincial Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital from Jan. 2016 to Sep. 2019 were enrolled. The patient's pelvic organ prolapse quantification were all at degree Ⅲ or above, and they all complained for different degree of symptoms. They were divided into two groups according to the different surgical methods, TVM group and NTR group. In TVM group, the mesh was implanted through the vagina for pelvic floor reconstruction, while in NTR group, the traditional transvaginal hysterectomy combined with uterosacral ligament suspension and anterior and posterior wall repair, as well as perineal body repair were performed. The median follow-up time was 60 months, during the follow up time, 164 cases (79.2%, 164/207) had completed follow-up, including 76 cases in TVM group and 88 cases in NTR group. The perioperative data and complication rates of the two groups were compared, and the subjective and objective outcomes of the two groups at 1, 3 and 5 years were observed, respectively. The objective efficacy was evaluated by three composite criteria, namely: (1) the distance from the farthest end of the prolapse of the anterior and posterior wall of the vagina to the hymen is ≤0 cm, and the descending distance of the top is ≤1/2 of the total length of the vagina; (2) determine the disappearance of relevant POP symptoms according to "Do you often see or feel vaginal mass prolapse?"; (3) no further operation or pessary treatment was performed due to prolapse. If the above three criteria were met at the same time, the operation is successful; otherwise, it was recurrence. The subjective efficacy was evaluated by the pelvic floor distress inventory-short form 20 (PFDI-20) and pelvic floor impact questionnaire-short form 7 (PFIQ-7). Results: The median follow-up time of the two groups was 60 months (range: 41-82 months). Five years after the operation, the subjective and objective cure rates of TVM group were 89.5% (68/76) and 94.7% (72/76), respectively. The subjective and objective cure rates in NTR group were 80.7% (71/88) and 85.2% (75/88), respectively. There were significant differences in the subjective and objective cure rates between the two groups (χ2=9.869, P=0.002; χ2=3.969, P=0.046). The recurrence rate of TVM group was 5.3% (4/76), and that of NTR group was 14.8% (13/88). There was a significant difference between the two groups (P=0.046). The postoperative PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 scores of the two groups were significantly lower than those before surgery, and there were significant differences of the two groups before and after surgery (all P<0.05). Postoperative mesh exposure in TVM group was 1.3% (1/76). Conclusions: The long-term outcomes between the two groups show that the subjective and objective outcomes of pelvic floor reconstruction in TVM group are significantly higher than those in NTR group, and the recurrence rate is significantly lower than that in NTR group. TVM has certain advantages in the treatment of advanced POP.

Abstract
Metastasis is the principal cause of cancer death, yet we lack an understanding of metastatic cell states, their relationship to primary tumor states, and the mechanisms by which they transition. In a cohort of biospecimen trios from same-patient normal colon, primary and metastatic colorectal cancer, we show that while primary tumors largely adopt LGR5 + intestinal stem-like states, metastases display progressive plasticity. Loss of intestinal cell states is accompanied by reprogramming into a highly conserved fetal progenitor state, followed by non-canonical differentiation into divergent squamous and neuroendocrine-like states, which is exacerbated by chemotherapy and associated with poor patient survival. Using matched patient-derived organoids, we demonstrate that metastatic cancer cells exhibit greater cell-autonomous multilineage differentiation potential in response to microenvironment cues than their intestinal lineage-restricted primary tumor counterparts. We identify PROX1 as a stabilizer of intestinal lineage in the fetal progenitor state, whose downregulation licenses non-canonical reprogramming.

Abstract
Objective: To discuss the clinical and genetic features of intellectual developmental disorder with behavioral abnormalities and craniofacial dysmorphism with or without seizures (IDDBCS). Methods: The clinical and genetic records of a patient who was diagnosed with IDDBCS caused by PHF21A gene variation at Children's Hospital Capital Institute of Pediatrics in 2021 were collected retrospectively. Using " PHF21A gene" as the keyword, relevant articles were searched at CNKI, Wanfang Data and PubMed from establishment of databases to February 2023. Clinical and genetic features of IDDBCS were summarized in the combination of this case. Results: An 8 months of age boy showed overgrowth (height, weight and head circumference were all higher than the 97th percentile of children of the same age and sex) and language and motor developmental delay after birth, and gradually showed autism-like symptoms like stereotyped behavior and poor eye contact. At 8 months of age, he began to show epileptic seizures, which were in the form of a series of spastic seizures with no reaction to adrenocorticotropic hormone but a good response to vigabatrin. Physical examination showed special craniofacial appearances including a prominent high forehead, sparse eyebrows, broad nasal bridge, and downturned mouth with a tent-shaped upper lip. The patient also manifested hypotonia. Whole exome sequencing showed a de novo heterogeneous variant, PHF21A (NM_001101802.1): c.54+1G>A, and IDDBCS was diagnosed. A total of 6 articles (all English articles) were collected, involving this case and other 14 patients of IDDBCS caused by PHF21A gene variation. Clinical manifestations were intellectual disability or developmental delay (15 patients), craniofacial anomalies (15 patients), behavioral abnormalities (12 patients), seizures (9 patients), and overgrowth (8 patients). The main pathogenic variations were frameshift variations (8 patients). Conclusions: IDDBCS should be considered when patients show nervous developmental abnormalities, craniofacial anomalies, seizures and overgrowth. PHF21A gene variation detection helps to make a definite diagnosis.

Abstract
In recent years, researchers have become more interested in hyperspectral image fusion (HIF) as a potential alternative to expensive high-resolution hyperspectral imaging systems, which aims to recover a high-resolution hyperspectral image (HR-HSI) from two images obtained from low-resolution hyperspectral (LR-HSI) and high-spatial-resolution multispectral (HR-MSI). It is generally assumed that degeneration in both the spatial and spectral domains is known in traditional model-based methods or that there existed paired HR-LR training data in deep learning-based methods. However, such an assumption is often invalid in practice. Furthermore, most existing works, either introducing hand-crafted priors or treating HIF as a black-box problem, cannot take full advantage of the physical model. To address those issues, we propose a deep blind HIF method by unfolding model-based maximum a posterior (MAP) estimation into a network implementation in this paper. Our method works with a Laplace distribution (LD) prior that does not need paired training data. Moreover, we have developed an observation module to directly learn degeneration in the spatial domain from LR-HSI data, addressing the challenge of spatially-varying degradation. We also propose to learn the uncertainty (mean and variance) of LD models using a novel Swin-Transformer-based denoiser and to estimate the variance of degraded images from residual errors (rather than treating them as global scalars). All parameters of the MAP estimation algorithm and the observation module can be jointly optimized through end-to-end training. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real datasets show that the proposed method outperforms existing competing methods in terms of both objective evaluation indexes and visual qualities.

Abstract
Melatonin confers protection against myocardial injury by reducing inflammation and inhibiting apoptosis. In the present study, we investigated whether melatonin regulates cardiomyocyte proliferation and improves cardiac function in rats with myocardial infarction (MI). Two MI models were established in vitro (H9c2 cells were cultured under hypoxia) and in vivo (the left anterior descending coronary artery of rats was surgically ligated). miR-200b-3p and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) levels were detected. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were analyzed in vitro, and cardiac function, inflammatory cytokines, and myocardial injury markers in vivo were tested. The experimental results reported that melatonin promoted proliferation and impaired apoptosis of H9c2 cells cultured in hypoxia. In vivo, melatonin improved cardiac function and inhibited the inflammation and myocardial injury of rats with MI. miR-200b-3p was downregulated and HMGB1 was upregulated in MI, while melatonin could upregulate miR-200b-3p and downregulate HMGB1. The HMGB1 was targeted by miR-200b-3p. Upregulating miR-200b-3p or downregulating HMGB1 could further promote the therapeutic effect of melatonin, and downregulating miR-200b-3p or upregulating HMGB1 could abolish the therapeutic effect of melatonin. In conclusion, melatonin alleviates inflammation and cardiac dysfunction after MI by regulating the miR-200b-3p/HMGB1 axis, offering a new therapeutic strategy for MI.

Abstract
The Yuquan capsules is a commonly used traditional Chinese Patent Medicine used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. In this study, a high-throughput analytical method for identifying the chemical composition of Yuquan capsules was established for the first time by using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry. The data obtained were subjected to fragment analysis and this was combined with UNIFI processing of natural products. One-hundred sixteen compounds were characterized from Yuquan capsules. Twelve of the bioactive compounds were quantitatively analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. This study was undertaken to obtain a comprehensive chemical profile analysis as well as to evaluate the overall quality of Yuquan capsules. The results will provide a reference for the quality evaluation of different Yuquan preparations. In addition, the data will enable basic pharmacodynamic research into these extensively used capsules.

Abstract
High surface ozone (O3) levels affect human and environmental health. The Fenwei Plain (FWP), one of the critical regions for China's "Blue Sky Protection Campaign", has reported severe O3 pollution. This study investigates the spatiotemporal properties and the causes of O3 pollution over the FWP using high-resolution data from the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) from 2019 to 2021. This study characterizes spatial and temporal variations in O3 concentration by linking O3 columns and surface monitoring using a trained deep forest machine learning model. O3 concentrations in summer were 2-3 times higher than those found in winter due to higher temperatures and greater solar irradiation. The spatial distributions of O3 correlate with the solar radiation showing decreased trends from the northeastern to the southwestern FWP, with the highest O3 values in Shanxi Province and the lowest in Shaanxi Province. For urban areas, croplands and grasslands, the O3 photochemistry in summer is NOx-limited or in the transitional regime, while it is VOC-limited in winter and other seasons. Reducing NOx emissions would be effective for decreasing O3 levels in summer, while VOC reductions are necessary for winter. The annual cycle in vegetated areas included both NOx-limited and transitional regimes, indicating the importance of NOx controls to protect ecosystems. The O3 response to limiting precursors shown here is of importance for optimizing control strategies and is illustrated by emission changes during the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak.

Abstract
Purpose To explore the application of deep learning (DL) methods based on T2 sagittal MR images for discriminating between spinal tuberculosis (STB) and spinal metastases (SM). Patients and Methods A total of 121 patients with histologically confirmed STB and SM across four institutions were retrospectively analyzed. Data from two institutions were used for developing deep learning models and internal validation, while the remaining institutions' data were used for external testing. Utilizing MVITV2, EfficientNet-B3, ResNet101, and ResNet34 as backbone networks, we developed four distinct DL models and evaluated their diagnostic performance based on metrics such as accuracy (ACC), area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), F1 score, and confusion matrix. Furthermore, the external test images were blindly evaluated by two spine surgeons with different levels of experience. We also used Gradient-Class Activation Maps to visualize the high-dimensional features of different DL models. Results For the internal validation set, MVITV2 outperformed other models with an accuracy of 98.7%, F1 score of 98.6%, and AUC of 0.98. Other models followed in this order: EfficientNet-B3 (ACC: 96.1%, F1 score: 95.9%, AUC: 0.99), ResNet101 (ACC: 85.5%, F1 score: 84.8%, AUC: 0.90), and ResNet34 (ACC: 81.6%, F1 score: 80.7%, AUC: 0.85). For the external test set, MVITV2 again performed excellently with an accuracy of 91.9%, F1 score of 91.5%, and an AUC of 0.95. EfficientNet-B3 came second (ACC: 85.9, F1 score: 91.5%, AUC: 0.91), followed by ResNet101 (ACC:80.8, F1 score: 80.0%, AUC: 0.87) and ResNet34 (ACC: 78.8, F1 score: 77.9%, AUC: 0.86). Additionally, the diagnostic accuracy of the less experienced spine surgeon was 73.7%, while that of the more experienced surgeon was 88.9%. Conclusion Deep learning based on T2WI sagittal images can help discriminate between STB and SM, and can achieve a level of diagnostic performance comparable with that produced by experienced spine surgeons.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical features and genetic features of combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 32 (COXPD32) caused by MRPS34 gene variation. Methods: The clinical data and genetic test of a child with COXPD32 hospitalized in the Department of Neurology, Children's Hospital, Capital Institute of Pediatrics in March 2021 were extracted and analyzed. A literature search was implemented using Wanfang, China biology medicine disc, China national knowledge infrastructure, ClinVar, human gene mutation database (HGMD) and Pubmed databases with the key words "MRPS34" "MRPS34 gene" and "combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 32" (up to February 2023). Clinical and genetic features of COXPD32 were summarized. Results: A boy aged 1 year and 9 months was admitted due to developmental delay. He showed mental and motor retardation, and was below the 3rd percentile for height, weight, and head circumference of children of the same age and gender. He had poor eye contact, esotropia, flat nasal bridge, limbs hypotonia, holding instability and tremors. In addition, Grade Ⅲ/6 systolic murmur were heard at left sternal border. Arterial blood gases suggested that severe metabolic acidosis with lactic acidosis. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed multiple symmetrical abnormal signals in the bilateral thalamus, midbrain, pons and medulla oblongata. Echocardiography showed atrial septal defect. Genetic testing identified the patient as a compound heterozygous variation of MRPS34 gene, c.580C>T (p.Gln194Ter) and c.94C>T (p.Gln32Ter), with c.580C>T being the first report and a diagnosis of COXPD32. His parents carried a heterozygous variant, respectively. The child improved after treatment with energy support, acidosis correction, and "cocktail" therapy (vitaminB1, vitaminB2, vitaminB6, vitaminC and coenzyme Q10). A total of 8 cases with COXPD32 were collected through 2 English literature reviews and this study. Among the 8 patients, 7 cases had onset during infancy and 1 was unknown, all had developmental delay or regression, 7 cases had feeding difficulty or dysphagia, followed by dystonia, lactic acidosis, ocular symptoms, microcephaly, constipation and dysmorphic facies(mild coarsening of facial features, small forehead, anterior hairline extending onto forehead,high and narrow palate, thick gums, short columella, and synophrys), 2 cases died of respiratory and circulatory failure, and 6 were still alive at the time of reporting, with an age range of 2 to 34 years. Blood and (or) cerebrospinal fluid lactate were elevated in all 8 patients. MRI in 7 cases manifested symmetrical abnormal signals in the brainstem, thalamus, and (or) basal ganglia. Urine organic acid test were all normal but 1 patient had alanine elevation. Five patients underwent respiratory chain enzyme activity testing, and all had varying degrees of enzyme activity reduction. Six variants were identified, 6 patients were homozygous variants, with c.322-10G>A was present in 4 patients from 2 families and 2 compound heterozygous variants. Conclusions: The clinical phenotype of COXPD32 is highly heterogenous and the severity of the disease varies from development delay, feeding difficulty, dystonia, high lactic acid, ocular symptoms and reduced mitochondrial respiratory chain enzyme activity in mild cases, which may survive into adulthood, to rapid death due to respiratory and circulatory failure in severe cases. COXPD32 needs to be considered in cases of unexplained acidosis, hyperlactatemia, feeding difficulties, development delay or regression, ocular symptoms, respiratory and circulatory failure, and symmetrical abnormal signals in the brainstem, thalamus, and (or) basal ganglia, and genetic testing can clarify the diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the anatomical features and relative position of the brachiocephalic trunk and the trachea to provide an anatomical basis for diagnosis and treatment of mechanical airway obstruction and for facilitating the performance of tracheotomy. METHODS A total of 91 formalin- fixed adult cadavers (70 male and 21 female) were used in this study. The whole length of the larynx and the trachea were separated and exposed from the neck to the chest, followed by separation of the aortic arch and its 3 branches to observe the anatomical position of the brachiocephalic trunk and the trachea. RESULTS The brachiocephalic trunk and the trachea did not intersect in 3.30%, partially intersected in 71.43%, and completely intersected in 25.27% of the 91 cadaveric specimens. The male specimens all showed greater outer diameter of the aortic arch, the brachiocephalic trunk and the trachea with a greater length of the trachea than the female specimens (P < 0.05), while the distances from the aortic arch to the brachiocephalic trunk or the cricoid cartilage did not differ significantly between them (P > 0.05). The number of the tracheal cartilage rings above the brachiocephalic trunk ranged from 3 to 10, and the mean number did not differ significantly between the male and female specimens (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION The brachiocephalic trunk has complex anatomical relationship with the trachea, and caution should be taken to avoid injuries of the brachiocephalic trunk and the aortic arch in the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical respiratory obstruction and during tracheotomy.

Abstract
Bax-interacting factor-1 (Bif-1) is a multifunctional protein involved in apoptosis, autophagy, and mitochondrial morphology. However, the associations between Bif-1 and viruses are poorly understood. As discrete Bif-1 isoforms are selectively expressed and exert corresponding effects, we evaluated the effects of neuron-specific/ubiquitous Bif-1 isoforms on rabies virus (RABV) proliferation. First, infection with the RABV CVS-11 strain significantly altered Bif-1 expression in mouse neuroblastoma (N2a) cells, and Bif-1 knockdown in turn promoted RABV replication. Overexpression of neuron-specific Bif-1 isoforms (Bif-1b/c/e) suppressed RABV replication. Moreover, our study showed that Bif-1c colocalized with LC3 and partially alleviated the incomplete autophagic flux induced by RABV. Taken together, our data reveal that neuron-specific Bif-1 isoforms impair the RABV replication process by abolishing autophagosome accumulation and blocking autophagic flux induced by the RABV CVS-11 strain in N2a cells. IMPORTANCE Autophagy can be triggered by viral infection and replication. Autophagosomes are generated and affect RABV replication, which differs by viral strain and infected cell type. Bax-interacting factor-1 (Bif-1) mainly has a proapoptotic function but is also involved in autophagosome formation. However, the association between Bif-1-involved autophagy and RABV infection remains unclear. In this study, our data reveal that a neuron-specific Bif-1 isoform, Bif-1c, impaired viral replication by unchoking autophagosome accumulation induced by RABV in N2a cells to a certain extent. Our study reveals for the first time that Bif-1 is involved in modulating autophagic flux and plays a crucial role in RABV replication, establishing Bif-1 as a potential therapeutic target for rabies.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the associations between the numbers of healthy lifestyles and overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity in adult twins in Shanghai. Methods: Based on the Shanghai Twin Registry System Phase Ⅱ survey data in 2017-2018, a case-control study was conducted to analyze the association between healthy lifestyles and obesity and further adjusted for confounders by a co-twin control study. Results: A total of 7 864 adult twins (3 932 pairs) were included. In the co-twin case-control analysis for monozygotic twins, compared with participants with 0 to 2 healthy lifestyles, those with 3 and 4 to 5 healthy lifestyles had a 49% (OR=0.51, 95%CI: 0.28-0.93) and 70% (OR=0.30, 95%CI: 0.13-0.69) lower risk of overweight/obesity, respectively, and a 17% (OR=0.83, 95%CI: 0.44-1.57) and 66% (OR=0.34, 95%CI: 0.14-0.80) lower risk of abdominal obesity, respectively. For each additional healthy lifestyle, the risk of developing overweight/obesity was reduced by 41% (OR=0.59, 95%CI: 0.42-0.85), and the risk of developing abdominal obesity was reduced by 37% (OR=0.63, 95%CI: 0.44-0.90). Conclusion: An increasing number of healthy lifestyles was associated with a marked decreased risk for both overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evidence for the mucolytic and expectorant efficacy of intravenous (IV) N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is limited. This study aimed to evaluate in a large, multicenter, randomized, controlled, subject, and rater-blinded study whether IV NAC is superior to placebo and non-inferior to ambroxol in improving sputum viscosity and expectoration difficulty. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 333 hospitalized subjects from 28 centers in China with respiratory disease (such as acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and exacerbations, emphysema, mucoviscidosis, and bronchiectasis) and abnormal mucus secretion were randomly allocated in a 1:1:1 ratio to receive NAC 600 mg, ambroxol hydrochloride 30 mg, or placebo as an IV infusion twice daily for 7 days. Mucolytic and expectorant efficacy was assessed by ordinal categorical 4-point scales and analyzed by stratified and modified Mann-Whitney U statistics. RESULTS NAC showed consistent and statistically significant superiority to placebo and non-inferiority to ambroxol in change from baseline to day 7 in both sputum viscosity scores [mean (SD) difference 0.24 (0.763), p<0.001 vs. placebo] and expectoration difficulty score [mean (SD) difference 0.29 (0.783), p=0.002 vs. placebo]. Safety findings confirm the good tolerability profile of IV NAC reported from previous small studies, and no new safety concerns were identified. CONCLUSIONS This is the first large, robust study of the efficacy of IV NAC in respiratory diseases with abnormal mucus secretion. It provides new evidence for IV NAC administration in this indication in clinical situations where the IV route is preferred.

Abstract
Previous studies on primary cutaneous amyloidosis (PCA) have mainly focused on exploring genetic mutation and components of amyloid in patients with PCA. However, studies on skin barrier function in PCA patients are scarce. Here, we detected the skin barrier function in PCA patients and healthy people by using noninvasive techniques and characterized ultrastructural features of PCA lesions compared with healthy people using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The expression of proteins related to skin barrier function was examined by immunohistochemistry staining. A total of 191 patients with clinically diagnosed PCA and 168 healthy individuals were enrolled in the study. Our analysis revealed that all investigated lesion areas displayed higher transepidermal water loss and pH values, and lower Sebum levels and stratum corneum hydration levels in PCA patients compared with the same site area in healthy individuals. The TEM results showed that the intercellular spaces between the basal cells were enlarged and the number of hemidesmosomes decreased in PCA lesions. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the expression of integrin α6 and E-cadherin in PCA patients was less than that in healthy controls, while no differences in the expression of loricrin and filaggrin were observed. Our study revealed that individuals with PCA displayed skin barrier dysfunction, which may be related to alterations in epidermal ultrastructure and a decrease in the skin barrier-related protein E-cadherin. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying skin barrier dysfunction in PCA remain to be elucidated.
