Abstract
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignant disease that is mainly arisen from myeloid stem/progenitor cells. The pathogenesis of AML is complex. Ras-related protein member RAS oncogene GTPases (RAB) 34 protein has been reported to serve an important role in the development of cancer. However, to the best of our knowledge, the role of RAB34 in AML has not been previously reported. The GEPIA database was used to predict the expression levels of RAB34 in patients with AML. Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blotting were used to detect the expression of RAB34 in AML cell lines. Cell transfection with short hairpin (sh)RNAs targeting RAB34 was used to interfere with RAB34 expression. Cell Counting Kit-8 and 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine staining were used to measure cell proliferation. Flow cytometry was used to investigate cell cycle distribution and apoptosis. Western blotting was used to assess the protein expression levels of RAB34 and E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1), and cell cycle- and apoptosis-associated proteins, including Bcl-2, Bax, CDK4, CDK8 and cyclin D1. The potential binding between E2F1 and RAB34 was then verified by luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays. Subsequently, cells were co-transfected with RAB34 shRNA and the E2F1 overexpression plasmid before cell proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed further. The expression of RAB34 was found to be significantly increased in AML cell lines. Knocking down RAB34 expression in AML cells was found to significantly inhibit cell proliferation, induce cell cycle arrest and promote apoptosis. E2F1 activated the transcription of RAB34 and E2F1 elevation reversed the impacts of RAB34 silencing on cell proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis in AML. Therefore, these findings suggest that E2F1-mediated RAB34 upregulation may accelerate the malignant progression of AML.

Abstract
Piezoelectric nanogenerators have prospective uses for generating mechanical energy and powering electronic devices due to their high output and flexible behavior. In this research, the synthesis of the three-dimensional coral-like BaTiO3 (CBT) and its filling into a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix to obtain composites with excellent energy harvesting properties are reported. The CBT-based PENG has a 163 V voltage and a 16.7 µA current at a frequency of 4 Hz with 50 N compression. Simulations show that the high local stresses in the CBT coral branch structure are the main reason for the improved performance. The piezoelectric nanogenerator showed good durability at 5000 cycles, and 50 commercial light-emitting diodes were turned on. The piezoelectric nanogenerator generates a voltage of 4.68-12 V to capture the energy generated by the ball falling from different heights and a voltage of ≈0.55 V to capture the mechanical energy of the ball's movement as it passes. This study suggests a CBT-based piezoelectric nanogenerator for potential use in piezoelectric sensors that has dramatically improved energy harvesting characteristics.

Abstract
Hybrid nanogenerators based on the principle of surface charging of functional films are significant in self-powering sensing and energy conversion devices due to their multiple functions and high conversion efficiency, although applications remain limited due to a lack of suitable materials and structures. Here, we investigate a triboelectric-piezoelectric hybrid nanogenerator (TPHNG) in the form of a mousepad for computer user behavior monitoring and energy harvesting. Triboelectric and piezoelectric nanogenerators with different functional films and structures work independently to detect sliding and pressing movements, and the profitable coupling between the two nanogenerators leads to enhanced device outputs/sensitivity. Different mouse operations such as clicking, scrolling, taking-up/putting-down, sliding, moving rate, and pathing can be detected by the device via distinguishable patterns of voltage ranging from 0.6 to 36 V. Based on operation recognition, human behavior monitoring is realized, with monitoring of tasks such as browsing a document and playing a computer game being successfully demonstrated. Energy harvesting from mouse sliding, patting, and bending of the device is realized with output voltages up to 37 V and power up to 48 μW while exhibiting good durability up to 20,000 cycles. This work presents a TPHNG utilizing surface charging for self-powered human behavior sensing and biomechanical energy harvesting.

Abstract
In this study, a flower-like TiO2 filled polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composite is presented as a positive tribo-material to produce an excellent-performance triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). By working in conjunction with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), the flat-surface PDMS/PMMA-flower TiO2 TENG generates a voltage of 1200 V, a current of 139 mA m-2 and an output power of 34.85 W m-2, showing significant enhancement compared with its counterpart utilizing neat PMMA as the positive tribo-material under the same operating conditions, whose voltage is 620 V, current is 78 mA m-2 and output power is 13.89 W m-2, respectively. The performance of the TENG is highly dependent on filler loadings of TiO2 flower particles in PMMA composites with an optimal filler loading of 40 wt% with the highest performances. The flower TiO2 is vital to the enhanced performances of the TENG, which is due to the modified surface, the tailored dielectric constant and the space charge polarization. The TENG is capable of powering 600 light emitting diodes, a calculator and a digit display, and applied in self-powered electrophoretic deposition of oxide films. This work demonstrates a facile, low-cost approach for obtaining high-performance TENGs utilizing a PMMA-flower TiO2 composite as the positive tribo-material for applications in sustainable power systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the retinoic acid receptor-β (RAR-β) expression in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) tissues and its prognosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS SP assay was used to detect the RAR-β expression in 100 cases of surgically resected LSCC tissues and 20 cases of peritumoral normal lung tissues, and prognosis follow-up was conducted. RESULTS The overall positive expression rate of RAR-β was 54.00%, which was not correlated with age, gender, phase and pathological type (p>0.05). Stratified analysis showed that the prognosis of patients with positive IRAR-β expression in phase I was significantly better than that of those with negative IRAR-β expression, in which the median survival times were 31 and 22 months respectively (p=0.022). In contrast, the prognosis of patients with negative RAR-β expression was better than that of those with positive RAR-β expression in phase II and III A. The median survival times were 23 and 16 months respectively in phase II p = 0.008, and 19 and 7 months respectively in phase III A (p=0.019). CONCLUSIONS RAR-β is expressed in LSCC tumor tissues. RAR-β expression, which is not significantly correlated with the clinicopathological characteristics of patients, affects the postoperative survival of LSCC patients in phase I and II-III A dually. RAR-β expression state is one of the independent factors for the prognosis of LSCC patients.

Abstract
The biological agents that can be weaponized, such as Bacillus anthracis, pose a considerable potential public threat. Bacterial spores, in particular, are highly stress resistant and cannot be completely neutralized by common bactericides. This paper reports on synthesis of metal iodate-based aluminized electrospray-assembled nanocomposites which neutralize spores through a combined thermal and chemical mechanism. Here metal iodates (Bi(IO3)3, Cu(IO3)2, and Fe(IO3)3) act as a strong oxidizer to nanoaluminum to yield a very exothermic and violent reaction, and simultaneously generate iodine as a long-lived bactericide. These microparticle-assembled nanocomposites when characterized in terms of reaction times and temporal pressure release show significantly improved reactivity. Furthermore, sporicidal performance superior to conventional metal-oxide-based thermites clearly shows the advantages of combining both a thermal and biocidal mechanism in spore neutralization.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To discuss whether PP-2A influences the phosphorylation level at APP threonine 668 locus thus regulating Aβ secretion. METHOD In the experiment, 24 hours after N2a cells of stably transfected human APP (N2a/APP) were treated with okadaic acid (OA) or DES (C6-ceramide) (N2a/APP), an injection of OA cerebral stereotactic was administered to a SD rat in the hippocampal region, or PP-2A overexpressed plasmids was transfected transiently, the aggregate levels of APP phosphorylated APP, and APP-CTF were detected through immunoblotting and the activity of PP-2A and secretase was also detected using a reagent kit. RESULT The phosphorylation level of APP was significantly increased after the PP-2A activity was inhibited by OA. DES activated PP-2A or over-expressed PP-2A was able to reduce the phosphorylation level of APP. Either can inhibit PP and reduce the phosphorylation level of APP. The level of phosphorylated APP was increased significantly after the SD rat was injected with OA through the hippocampal region. The activity of β- and γ-secretases in N2a/APP cells significantly increased after OA treatment whereas the α-secretase activity had no significant changes; the Aβ level increased. CONCLUSION We discovered that PP-2A was capable of regulating the Aβ level by regulating APP phosphorylation level and β and γ-secretase activity(Fig. 5, Ref. 30).

Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop consistently focal elevated choroidal masses of human choroidal melanoma in immunosuppressed rabbits and to correlate the visualization of prognostically significant microcirculation patterns from confocal indocyanine green angiography with histologic microcirculation patterns. A human choroidal melanoma cell line (OCM1) was implanted in the choroid of 40 rabbit eyes using three different techniques: transscleral choroidal injection of a cell suspension, injection of a cell suspension in a surgically induced cyclodialysis cleft, and implantation of solid tumor fragments in a surgically induced cyclodialysis cleft. The rabbits were immunosuppressed with daily injections of Cyclosporin A to prevent host versus graft reaction. The eyes were studied weekly with indirect ophthalmoscopy and fundus photography to monitor tumor growth and indocyanine green angiography using a confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope to identify microcirculation patterns in vivo and correlate these findings with the histologic demonstration of tumor microcirculation patterns. A tumor mass was identified by indirect ophthalmoscopy in 16 of the 40 implanted rabbit eyes (40%). Each of these tumors was confirmed histologically to represent a focal elevated choroidal mass. All 16 elevated choroidal masses grow in eyes in which solid tumor fragments were implanted. In total, a melanoma was identified histologically in 28 of the implanted 40 eyes (70%). In addition to the 16 eyes where the melanoma appeared as a focal elevated choroidal mass, 4 eyes contained a focal elevated mass in the sclera and 8 eyes contained a flat choroidal tumor. Histologically, microcirculation patterns were identified only in the 16 eyes with focal elevated choroidal masses. Confocal indocyanine green angiography imaged microcirculation patterns in 13 of these 16 eyes (81%). The surgical implantation of small solid fragments of human choroidal melanoma in immunosuppressed rabbit eyes provides the best method to consistently obtain focal elevated choroidal masses. These focal elevated choroidal masses resemble booth the localization and the growth pattern of choroidal melanomas in humans. In addition, they also contain microcirculation patterns similar to those seen in humans that are detectable with confocal indocyanine green angiography. The use of indocyanine green angiography with this animal model may be especially useful in designing and evaluating anti-microcirculation treatments directed at uveal melanoma.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the effect of posterior subtenon injections of corticosteroids on intraocular pressure in a variety of ocular diseases. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 202 consecutive posterior subtenon corticosteroid injections (148 of methylprednisolone acetate, 80 mg, and 54 of triamcinolone acetonide, 40 mg) in 63 eyes of 55 patients (26 male, 29 female; mean age +/- SD, 60.17 +/- 26.55 years). All patients had received topical or systemic corticosteroids before the injection, and no rise in intraocular pressure had been noted. Preinjection and postinjection intraocular pressure measurements were compared by two-tailed paired t test. Statistical analysis was performed separately by patient (first injection of first injected eye), by eye (first injection of each eye), and by all injections. To detect increase in intraocular pressure during follow-up, statistical analysis was performed separately 14 to 90 days, 91 to 150 days, and 151 to 270 days after injection. RESULTS No statistically significant difference was found between preinjection and postinjection intraocular pressure measurements. A power calculation in the most stringent subanalysis (by patient) proved that there is only a 3.87% chance to statistically miss a clinically significant rise in intraocular pressure from 15 to 21 mm Hg. CONCLUSIONS Posterior subtenon injection of corticosteroids does not cause an increase in intraocular pressure. All patients in our study had been treated previously with topical or systemic corticosteroids and did not react with an excessive increase in intraocular pressure. This safety of repository corticosteroids may therefore not apply to patients whose status in responding to corticosteroids is not known.

Abstract
PURPOSE To study the changes in the oscillatory potentials (OPs) of the electroretinogram in the earlier or early stage of primary open angle glaucoma. METHODS OPs were recorded in thirty-three normal subjects (66 eyes) and 30 patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) (58 eyes). The abnormal rates of OPs in the different stages of POAG were analyzed and the sensitivity and the specificity of OPs were also determined. RESULTS The overall OPs amplitudes (sigma o) were reduced in the patients with POAG and the amounts of small wavelets were also decreased. The total abnormal rate of sigma o was 67.24%, and 42.86% in the earlier stage, 65.38% in the early stage and 76.00% in the advanced and late stage. The sensitivity and the specificity of OPs were 67.24% and 92.42%. OPs had correlation with C/D. CONCLUSION OPs can be considered as an indicator of earlier or early diagnosis of patients with POAG before visual field loss is detected.

A randomized case-controlled trial of oral low-dose acyclovir (600-800 mg per day) has been conducted for the prevention of virus infections in 66 recipients of renal allografts since 1990. In comparison with the untreated controls, acyclovir could prevent herpes virus simplex (HSV), reduce morbidity of pneumonia from 10 cases (30%) to 3 cases (9%) (P < 0.05) and lower CMV-IgM positive rate from 30% to 12%. Serum Cr and BUN in acyclovir group were lower than those in control group. These results strongly suggested that oral administration low-dose acyclovir could prevent virus infections after renal transplantation.
