Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study investigated the structure, functional and physicochemical properties of lotus seed protein (LSP) under different pH environments. The structures of LSP were characterized by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), zeta potential, particle size distributions, free sulfhydryl and rheological properties. The functional and physicochemical properties of LSP were characterized by color, foaming property, emulsification property, solubility, oil holding capacity, water holding capacity, differential scanning calorimetry analysis and surface hydrophobicity. RESULTS LSP was mainly composed of eight subunits (18, 25, 31, 47, 51, 56, 65 and 151 kDa), in which the richest band was 25 kDa. FTIR results showed that LSP had high total contents of α-helix and β-sheet (44.81-46.85%) in acidic environments. Meanwhile, there was more β-structure and random structure in neutral and alkaline environments (pH 7.0 and 9.0). At pH 5.0, LSP had large particle size (1576.98 nm), high emulsion stability index (91.43 min), foaming stability (75.69%) and water holding capacity (2.21 g g-1), but low solubility (35.98%), free sulfhydryl content (1.95 μmol g-1) and surface hydrophobicity (780). DSC analysis showed the denaturation temperatures (82.23 °C) of LSP at pH 5.0 was higher than those (80.10, 80.52 and 71.82 °C) at pH 3.0, 7.0 and 9.0. The analysis of rheological properties showed that LSP gel had high stability and great strength in an alkaline environment. CONCLUSION The findings of the present study are anticipated to serve as a valuable reference for the implementation of LSP in the food industry. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Zanthoxylum seed, as a low-cost and easily accessible plant protein resource, has good potential in the food industry. But protein and its hydrolysates from Zanthoxylum seed are underutilized due to the dearth of studies on them. This study aimed to investigate the structure and physicochemical and biological activities of Zanthoxylum seed protein (ZSP) hydrolysates prepared using Protamex®, Alcalase®, Neutrase®, trypsin, or pepsin. RESULTS Hydrolysis using each of the five enzymes diminished average particle size and molecular weight of ZSP but increased random coil content. ZSP hydrolysate prepared using pepsin had the highest degree of hydrolysis (24.07%) and the smallest molecular weight (<13 kDa) and average particle size (129.80 nm) with the highest solubility (98.9%). In contrast, ZSP hydrolysate prepared using Alcalase had the highest surface hydrophobicity and foaming capacity (88.89%), as well as the lowest foam stability (45.00%). Moreover, ZSP hydrolysate prepared using Alcalase exhibited the best hydroxyl-radical scavenging (half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50 ) 1.94 mg mL-1 ) and ferrous-ion chelating (IC50 0.61 mg mL-1 ) activities. Additionally, ZSP hydrolysate prepared using pepsin displayed the highest angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition activity (IC50 0.54 mg mL-1 ). CONCLUSION These data showed that enzyme hydrolysis improved the physicochemical properties of ZSP, and enzymatic hydrolysates of ZSP exhibited significant biological activity. These results provided validation for application of ZSP enzymatic hydrolysates as antioxidants and antihypertensive agents in the food or medicinal industries. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The limited physicochemical properties (such as low foaming and emulsifying capacity) of mung bean protein hydrolysate restrict its application in the food industry. Ultrasound treatment could change the structures of protein hydrolysate to accordingly affect its physicochemical properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ultrasound treatment on the structural and physicochemical properties of mung bean protein hydrolysate of protamex (MBHP). The structural characteristics of MBHP were evaluated using tricine sodium dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, laser scattering, fluorescence spectrometry, etc. Solubility, fat absorption capacity and foaming, emulsifying and thermal properties were determined to characterize the physicochemical properties of MBHP. RESULTS MBHP and ultrasonicated-MBHPs (UT-MBHPs) all contained five main bands of 25.8, 12.1, 5.6, 4.8 and 3.9 kDa, illustrating that ultrasound did not change the subunits of MBHP. Ultrasound treatment increased the contents of α-helix, β-sheet and random coil and enhanced the intrinsic fluorescence intensity of MBHP, but decreased the content of β-turn, which demonstrated that ultrasound modified the secondary and tertiary structures of MBHP. UT-MBHPs exhibited higher solubility, foaming capacity and emulsifying properties than MBHP, among which MBHP-330 W had the highest solubility (97.32%), foaming capacity (200%), emulsification activity index (306.96 m2 g-1 ) and emulsion stability index (94.80%) at pH 9.0. CONCLUSION Ultrasound treatment enhanced the physicochemical properties of MBHP, which could broaden its application as a vital ingredient in the food industry. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate structural, functional and antioxidant properties of Lentinus edodes protein hydrolysates (LEPHs) by alcalase, protamex, trypsin, papain and neutrase. Structural and functional properties were determined using gel electrophoresis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, laser scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy, emulsifying properties etc. Antioxidant activities were detected by Fe2+ chelating, hydroxyl and DPPH radical scavenging assays. Enzymatic hydrolysis destroyed secondary and tertiary structures of Lentinus edodes protein, decreased its molecular weight and particle size, particularly hydrolysate prepared by alcalase with the highest hydrolytic degree (32.86 ± 0.98 %), the smallest particle (130.77 ± 1.85 nm) and molecular weight (5.86 kDa). Moreover, alcalase hydrolysate exhibited the highest emulsifying stability, the strongest hydroxyl radical scavenging activity and Fe2+ chelating ability among LEPHs. Whilst trypsin hydrolysate displayed the highest DPPH radical scavenging, foaming and fat absorption capacity. These results provided basis for LEPH as ingredients to be used for food industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this study, the fermentation conditions of peony seed soy sauce (PSSS) koji were optimized by response surface method, and the quality components and antioxidant activity of PSSS were investigated at different low-salt solid-state fermentation stages. RESULTS Results of response surface method showed that the optimal fermentation conditions were 460.6 g kg-1 water content, 48.6 h culture time, 31.5 °C culture temperature and ratio 2.1:1 (w/w) of peony seed meal:wheat bran, with the highest neutral protease activity (2193.78 U g-1 ) of PSSS koji. PSSS had the highest amino acid nitrogen (7.69 g L-1 ), salt-free soluble solids (185.26 g L-1 ), total free amino acids (49.03 g L-1 ), essential free amino acids (19.58 g L-1 ) and umami free amino acids (16.64 g L-1 ) at 20 days of fermentation. The highest total phenolics were 5.414 g gallic acid equivalent L-1 and total flavonoids 0.617 g rutin equivalent L-1 , as well as the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity (86.19%) and reducing power (0.8802, A700 ) of PSSS fermented at 30 days. Sensory evaluation showed that fermentation of 20 days and 25 days could produce a better taste and aroma of PSSS than 15 days and 30 days. CONCLUSION PSSS had the highest quality components in the middle of fermentation (20 days) and the highest antioxidant activity in the late fermentation period (30 days). These results demonstrated that peony seed meal could be used to produce high-quality soy sauce with high antioxidant activity. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of dual guiding catheter kissing technique (DCK) in the treatment of stent partly dislodgement in coronary artery. Methods: The study retrospectively involved 6 hospitalized patients with coronary artery stent partly dislodgement during PCI at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from February 2016 to June 2019, DCK was used in these patients. We observe the success rate of stent retrieval, success rate of PCI, incidence of complications and major adverse cardiovascular events in 1 year follow up. Results: 6 patients were involved, of which 3 are male, ages range 49 to 68 years old, 4 patients are diagnosed with unstable angina, the other two are stable angina. All the partially disloged stents in the 6 patients were successfully removed from coronary artery. Except for 1 patient who refused coronary artery stenting again, the other 5 patients were successfully implanted coronary artery stenting. No serious complications occurred, no patients died and no major adverse cardiovascular events happened during 1 year follow up. Conclusions: DCK is safe and effective to remove partially dislodged stent in coronary artery.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate influence of ultrasonic treatment on physicochemical and antioxidant properties of mung bean protein hydrolysate (MPH). Physicochemical properties of MPH were evaluated by Tricine-SDS-PAGE, particle size distribution, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and fluorescence spectroscopy, among others. Radicals scavenging activities of ABTS, hydroxyl, superoxide anion, Fe2+ chelating ability and reducing power characterized antioxidant activities of MPH. MPH contained four bands of 25.6, 12.8, 10.6 and 4.9 kDa, in which 4.9 kDa was the most abundant. Ultrasonic treatment increased the contents of aromatic and hydrophobic amino acids in MPH. Ultrasonic treatment decreased the content of α-helix of MPH and increased β-sheet and β-turn compared to MPH. MPH-546 W (ultrasonic treatment 546 W, 20 min) had the lowest average particle size (290.13 nm), zeta potential (-36.37 mV) and surface hydrophobicity (367.95 A.U.). Antioxidant activities of ultrasonicated-MPH increased with the ultrasonic power, achieving the lowest IC50 (mg/mL) of 0.1087 (ABTS), 1.796 (hydroxyl), 1.003 (superoxide anion) and 0.185 (Fe2+ chelating ability) in 546 W power. These results indicated ultrasonic treatment would be a promising method to improve the antioxidant properties of MPH, which would broaden the application scope of MPH as bioactive components in the food industry.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of drug-coated balloons (DCB) for de novo large coronary vessels. Methods: One hundred and two patients were retrospectively enrolled in this study, there were 104 lesions with the reference lumen diameter of target vessel more than 2.8 mm and patients were treated with DCB in de novo lesions during May 2015 and July 2017 in our center. Coronary artery angiography and quantitative coronary angiography were performed in 82 (80.4%) patients at follow up period ((8.1±1.7) months post procedure). The endpoints were late lumen loss (LLL) at follow up,and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) including cardiac death, myocardial infarction (MI), target lesion revascularization (TLR) and stent or target lesion thrombosis at 12 months post procedure. Results: Ninety-eight lesions were treated with DCB only, 6 (5.9%) bailout drug-eluting stent (DES) were used because of severe coronary dissection, 2 patients (2.0%) received revascularization driven by acute ischemic events during hospitalization. Cutting balloons and NSE balloons were used in 65.4% (68/104) and 26.0% (27/104) lesions. The lesion length was (12.57±3.58) mm and the DCB length was (19.87±4.55) mm. The late lumen loss was (0.01±0.52) mm during angiographic follow up. The TLR rate and overall MACE rate was 3.9% (4/102) and 3.9% (4/102) and there was no death,MI and target lesion thrombosis at 12 months follow up. Conclusion: DCB treatment for de novo large coronary vessels is effective and safe.

Abstract
Glycinin basic peptide (GBP) is an antibacterial ingredient that occurs naturally in the basic parts of soybean glycinin. The antibacterial actions of GBP against Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 were investigated in this study. The minimum inhibitory concentration of GBP against E. coli was 200 μg/mL. The exposure of E. coli cells to GBP induced significant cell damage and inactivated intracellular esterases (stressed and dead cells, 70.9% ± 0.04 for 200 μg/mL of GBP and 91.9% ± 0.06 for 400 μg/mL of GBP), as determined through dual staining in flow cytometry. GBP resulted in the exposure of phosphatidylserine in E. coli cells. The analyses of flow cytometry-manifested GBP treatment led to the shrinkage of the cell surface and the complication of cell granularity. The observations in transmission electron microscopy demonstrated that 400 μg/mL of GBP severely disrupted the membrane integrity, resulting in ruptures or pores in the membrane, outflows of intracellular contents, or aggregation of the cytoplasm. Release of alkaline phosphatase, lipopolysaccharide, and reducing sugar further verified that the membrane damage was due to GBP. In addition, GBP treatment changed the helicity and base staking of DNA, as determined by circular dichroism spectroscopy. These results showed that GBP had strong antibacterial activity against E. coli via membrane damage and DNA perturbation. Additionally, GBP exhibited no cytotoxicity on the viability of human embryonic kidney cells. Thus, GBP may be a promising candidate as a natural antibacterial agent.

Abstract
This paper aims to study the antibacterial action of glycinin basic polypeptide (GBP) on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Herein, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of GBP against S. aureus was 0.2 mg/mL. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging showed that GBP seriously damaged the morphology of the S. aureus cells. GBP (0.8 mg/mL) enhanced the relative release of β-galactosidase to 25.48% when compared to the control. The activity of the respiratory-chain dehydrogenase of S. aureus decreased with increasing GBP concentration. GBP could cause a leakage of intracellular substances. Additionally, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) demonstrated that S. aureus bacterial proteins decreased in response to the time period of treating the bacterial cells with GBP. These results indicate that GBP could remarkably inhibit S. aureus and is, therefore, a potential food preservative.

Abstract
In this study, expression levels of miRNAs (miRNAs), miR-375 and miR-7, were detected in different tissues of cattle to determine whether adenohypophysis-prefer or exclusively expressed miRNAs, and target genes could be predicted by TargetScan, RNA22, and other software. Target genes related to pituitary function or reproductive traits were identified using a dual-luciferase assay. miR-375 and miR-7 were expressed differently in various tissues. miR-375 and miR-7 showed higher expression in the adenohypophysis, and there was a significant difference compared with expression in other tissues (P < 0.01). The binding sites for miR-7 were the mRNAs of bone morphogenetic protein receptor type II (BMPR2), prostaglandin F2 receptor negative regulator, gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor, follicle-stimulating hormoneβ, somatostatin receptor 1, and interleukin-1β by bioinformatic analysis; similarly, the mRNAs of BMPR2 and leptin contained binding sites for miR-375, suggesting that these genes are affected by miR-7 or miR-375. Dual-luciferase reporter assays showed that miR-7 regulated prostaglandin F2 receptor negative regulator expression, while miR-375 regulated BMPR2 expression. The mutated plasmid and miRNA mimics were used to co-transfect NIH3T3 cells; luciferase reporter assays showed that the inhibition of luciferase activity in the wild-type cells dramatically decreased from 75 to 26% with a 3-5-nucleotide mismatch mutation into the seed region of miR-7. miR-375 had nearly lost the ability to inhibit luciferase activity, suggesting that GTCTTCC is the site of interaction between miR-7 and the prostaglandin F2 receptor negative regulator sequence and that GAACAAA is the site of interaction between miR-375 and the BMPR2 sequence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteoporosis is a significant public health issue worldwide. The underlying mechanism of osteoporosis is an imbalance between bone resorption and bone formation. However, the exact pathology is still unclear, and more related genes are on demand. AIM Here, we aim to identify the differentially expressed genes in osteoporosis patients and control. MATERIALS AND METHODS Biblio-MetReS, a tool to reconstruct gene and protein networks from automated literature analysis, was used for identifying potential interactions among target genes. Relevant signaling pathways were also identified through pathway enrichment analysis. RESULTS Our results showed that 56 differentially expressed genes were identified. Of them, STAT1, CXCL10, SOCS3, ADM, THBS1, SOD2, and ERG2 have been demonstrated involving in osteoporosis. Further, a bibliometric network was constructed between DEGs and other genes through the Biblio-MetReS. CONCLUSIONS The results showed that STAT1 could interact with CXCL10 through Toll-like receptor signaling pathway and Chemokine signaling pathway. STAT1 interacted with SOCS3 through JAK/STAT pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common disease without an established optimal treatment. AIM To determine (i) the effect of acupuncture in relieving FD symptoms and improving life quality; (ii) the effect difference between acupoint and non-acupoint; and (iii) the effect difference among different acupoints. METHODS A total of 712 eligible patients were included and randomly assigned to six groups (Group A: specific acupoints of the stomach meridian; Group B: non-specific acupoints of the stomach meridian; Group C: specific acupoints of alarm and transport points; Group D: specific acupoints of the gallbladder meridian; Group E: sham acupuncture of non-acupoints; and Group F: itopride). A treatment period of 4 weeks (continuous five sessions per week), and a follow-up period of 12 weeks were arranged. The outcomes were the (i) patients' response, (ii) symptoms improvement measured using the Symptom Index of Dyspepsia and (iii) quality-of-life improvement based on Nepean Dyspepsia Index. RESULTS All groups had an improvement in dyspepsia symptoms and the QoL at the end of treatment, and the improvement was sustained for 4 weeks and 12 weeks. The overall response rate was significantly higher in acupuncture group A (70.69%), and lower in sham acupuncture group (34.75%), compared with itopride and other acupuncture groups. Similarly, the difference in symptoms and QoL improvement was significant between group A and the other acupuncture groups. CONCLUSIONS Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of functional dyspepsia, and is superior to non-acupoint puncture. The benefit of acupuncture relies on acupoint specificity.

Abstract
To screen the protein interacting with apoptin from human leucocyte cDNA library by using yeast two-hybrid system, four clones interacting with apoptin were identified. One of them was homologous with Nmi (N-Myc interaction protein). Cell co-immunoprecipitation showed that apoptin could bind to Nmi in mammalian cells. Apoptin mutants T1, T2 and T3 lacked the C-terminal 11 AA,33-46 AA and both,respectively. Apoptin mutants T2 and T3 failed to interact with Nmi, suggesting that its 33-46 AA was pivotal for the interaction. Apoptin mutant T1 still interacted with Nmi, suggesting that its C-terminal 11 AA was not essential for the interaction.

Abstract
Monoclonal antibody HMB-45 was previously thought to be melanoma specific antibody and was taken recently as a marker for melanocyte proliferation or activation. A single UV-irradiation system which may induce a functional activity change in melanocytes was used to test the irradiated epidermal melanocyte for expression of HMB-45. Melanocytes, in the epidermis of the biopsies taken 7 days after a single UV exposure, showed markedly stained HMB-45, accompanied by morphological changes such as enlarged size, rich cytoplasma and elongated dendrites. We conclude that since morphological changes in irradiated melanocytes may be interpreted as signs of functional activity changes, melanocytes are exposed to stimulatory factors induced by UV light and get into a functional activating state to produce melanosome and HMB-45 antigen. Besides, the presence of HMB-45 in a single UV exposed epidermal melanocyte may support the hypothesis that its expression is inducible and is closely related to the functional activity of melanocyte.
