Abstract
BACKGROUND Low back pain (LBP), though non-life-threatening, burdens healthcare with treatment expenses and work hours lost. Globally, 70-84% experience it, with risk factors tied to societal structure, income, and living conditions, making it a leading cause of disability. METHODS This study utilized data from the 2019 Türkiye Health Survey, which consisted of 17,084 individuals aged 15 and above. Our study focused on investigating the factors related to low back pain through a cross-sectional analysis. To analyze these factors, we employed binary multivariate logistic regression. Additionally, we conducted post-hoc analyses to assess the potential mediating effect of depressive symptoms on the relationship between low back pain and gender. RESULTS We found that 31.9% of the population experienced low back pain, with women being 58% more likely [aOR = 1.58; 95% CI (1.45-1.73)] than men to report symptoms. Individuals aged 55 + years old had a 90% [aOR = 1.90; 95% CI (1.61-2.23)] chance of experiencing low back pain, indicating an age-related increase. In the general population, having depressive symptoms was 2.49 [95% CI (2.23-2.78)] times more likely associated with low back pain. Our mediation analysis showed that gender (i.e., women vs. men), indicated by direct effects with β-estimates e = 0.78, predicted the likelihood of low back pain. Additionally, the relationship between gender and low back pain, mediated through a history of depressive symptoms, had a significant total indirect effect (i.e., β-estimate given as e = 0.49). Specifically, a history of depressive symptoms accounted for 17.86% [95% CI (9.67-20.10)] of the association between women having a higher likelihood of low back pain compared to men. CONCLUSION We observed that a higher likelihood of low back pain associated with gender and aging. Additionally, BMI served as a significant predictor, particularly in adults. Depression mediated the association between gender and low back pain. Acknowledging these associations may help identify and address contributing factors to LBP, potentially increasing awareness and alleviating the burden. Policymakers and healthcare professionals may consider these findings when developing prevention and treatment programs for low back pain.

Abstract
Cefoperazone (CPZ) is an antibiotic widely used for moderate to severe infections, especially in countries where resources are difficult to access. This case report aimed to draw attention to coagulopathy, a potential side effect of CPZ. This side effect can cause high mortality and morbidity in patients. In the mechanism of CPZ causing coagulopathy, it is reported that effects such as binding to vitamin K, disrupting vitamin K metabolism, and preventing platelet aggregation are responsible. In this presentation, a case who came to the emergency department with the complaint of hematuria caused by coagulopathy after the use of CPZ-containing antibiotics (CPZ + sulbactam) is presented.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) are clinical settings where patient loss is frequently experienced. A sense of professional grief and posttraumatic growth in nurses who have experienced patient loss has a significant impact on psychological and physical health, work satisfaction, turnover rates, as well as on personal and professional relations, and employee loyalty. The aim of this study was to investigate grief and posttraumatic growth in PICU nurses and to examine related factors. METHODS The study is of cross-sectional design and was conducted with 200 nurses who were working in 87 PICU's around Turkey during the period March 30 - June 30, 2021. Data were collected with a Descriptive Information Form, the Texas Revised Inventory of Grief (TRIG), the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), and an open-ended question asking for suggestions as to how nurses can cope with loss. Online questionnaires were used in the data collection. Descriptive statistics, the student t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and post-hoc tests were employed in the analysis of the data. RESULTS The nurses' mean scores were 49.425 ± 10.868 on TRIG and 61.450 ± 24.934 on PTGI. A negative weak correlation was found between the intensity of the nurses' grief and their posttraumatic growth (r = 0.144, p = 0.041). Receiving training on dealing with a patient's terminal stage (t=-2.688, p = 0.001), feeling comfortable about providing the patient's care (t = 2.624, p = 0.009) and providing the family with emotional support during patient care (t = 1.979, p = 0.049), and the presence of supporting health professionals reduced levels of grief (t = 2.797, p = 0.000). Being a woman (t = 3.299, p = 0.001), willingness to work in the unit (t=-3.219, p = 0.002), and being given enough time to accept the loss (t = 3.986, p = 0.000) were correlated with higher levels of posttraumatic growth. The nurses most commonly wanted more time allotted to recuperate after a loss (n = 35) and professional support (n = 22). CONCLUSIONS Nurses experience a moderate sense of grief after a patient's loss. As levels of grief decrease, posttraumatic growth increases. Healthcare administrators and future researchers can benefit from these findings when planning supportive interventions to help nurses cope with their feelings of grief and achieve posttraumatic growth. STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS A limitation of the study is that it was conducted only with nurses who were Association members.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the mortality relationship between COVID-19 and ABO blood groups and comorbid diseases. The aim of this study was to determine whether ABO blood groups and comorbid diseases can be used as a prognostic factor for hospitalization. PATIENTS AND METHODS This retrospective study included patients aged ≥ 18 years presenting to the adult emergency COVID-19 outpatient clinic. COVID-19 patients were divided into four stages according to their clinical status: mild, moderate, severe, and critical. Those with the comorbid disease were classified as Group I, and those without comorbid disease were classified as Group II. RESULTS Of the 384 patients included in the study, 190 (49.5%) were male and 194 (50.5%) were female, with a mean age of 47.3 ± 18.4 years. The clinical data of the patients were scanned from the hospital automation system. Although the risk of transmission was higher, especially in people with A blood type, this rate was lower in the O blood group. The clinical course of the disease was more severe and the mortality rates were higher in the AB blood group (p < 0.001). In the hospital, 35 people who were treated for COVID-19 disease died. CONCLUSIONS Certain ABO blood types and comorbid diseases were important risk factors for COVID-19 and were associated with mortality. We found that some ABO blood groups and comorbid diseases are associated with COVID-19 and may be important risk factors. While the risk of transmission of COVID-19 is high in blood group A, we think that the clinical course of COVID-19 may be more severe and the death rate higher in blood group AB.

Abstract
The reaction of N-substituted benzimidazole with 4-bromobutyronitrile gives the corresponding benzimidazolium salts as N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors. Silver(I) carbene complexes are synthesized by the reaction of the corresponding benzimidazolium salts with Ag2 O in dichloromethane. These new NHC precursors and Ag-NHC complexes were characterized by spectroscopy techniques and also screened for their antibacterial activities against the standard bacterial strains Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and Enterococcus faecalis, and the standard fungal strains Candida albicans and Candida glabrata, and promising results were achieved. The compounds were also analyzed by density functional theory (DFT)/time-dependent DFT and docking methods.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To prospectively investigate perinatal grief in women with pregnancy loss. METHODS A total of 215 women (mean (SD) age: 30.7 (5.9) years) who experienced pregnancy loss were included. Data on sociodemographic, marital and obstetric characteristics and Perinatal Grief Scale (PGS) (first 48 h, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after the loss) were recorded. RESULTS Active grief scores were lower (p ranged < .05 to <.01), while difficulty coping (p < .05 for each) and despair (p < .05 for each) scores were higher in the 3rd month as compared with prior assessments. All PGS scores at the 48 h and 3rd month assessments were significantly higher in assisted and planned pregnancies (p < .01 for each). Maternal age was positively correlated with 48 h active grief (r = 0.19, p < .001), despair (r = 0.13, p < .05) and total PGS (r = 0.13, p < .05) scores. Parity and the number of children were negatively correlated (r ranged from -0.35 to -0.20, p < .01 for each) with all PGS scores. CONCLUSION Our findings revealed decrease in active grief levels, whereas gradual increase in difficulty coping and despair in women with pregnancy loss within the first 3 months of losing a child. Our finding indicate association of older maternal age, primiparity, assisted and planned pregnancies with regular antenatal follow up with higher total PGS scores as well as active grief, difficulty coping and despair scores in women regardless of the time of assessment within 3 months after the pregnancy loss.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the Premature Ejaculation Profile (PEP) and its related factors in couples using contraceptive withdrawal (WD). The study sample was composed of 108 participants including 54 males and 54 females (their partners) who used WD. The data were collected via a questionnaire and the male and female forms of the PEP. The mean total PEP index score of the couples (female (F); 1.69 ± 0.55 and male (M); 1.65 ± 0.36) was below the average possible score. Although both males and their partners generally rated control over ejaculation (F; 57.4%, M; 61.1%) and satisfaction with sexual intercourse (F; 63%, M; 79.7%) as good/very good, they rate personal distress related to ejaculation (F; 64.8%, M; 83.4%) and interpersonal difficulty related to ejaculation (F; 81.5%, M; 92.6%) as 'extremely/quite a lot'. As the time of using WD increased, male control over ejaculation increased (p = .019); as the marriage duration (p = .045) and ages (F; p = .012, M; p = .045) of the couples increased, their problems related to ejaculation increased. According to the results, couples who use WD experience PE-related problems, and the problems they experience vary depending on the period of WD use, marriage duration and age.

Abstract
Whole-exome sequencing (WES) is an ideal method for the diagnosis of autosomal recessive diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic power of WES in patients with autosomal recessive inheritance and to determine the relationship between genotype and phenotype. Retrospective screenings of 24 patients analysed with WES were performed and clinical and genetic data were evaluated. Any pathogenic mutation that could explain the suspected disease in 4 patients was not identified. A homozygous pathogenic mutation was detected in 18 patients. 2 patients had heterozygous mutations. According to this study results, WES is a successful technique to be used at the stage of diagnosis in patients who are accompanied by various degrees of intellectual disability matching the inheritance of the autosomal recessive.

Abstract
The birth is an individual and also important expression for women life. This experience can be perceived in a different way by each woman that can be defined by different feelings such as positive, negative or mixed. Some women perceive birth experience as a traumatic event. Traumatically perceived birth is considered an event that may trigger Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) reaction. It is stated that traumatic birth experience may cause permanent or long-term negative consequences in women's life, may negatively affect future health, subsequent birth experiences and family relations. It is reported that birth is part of the continuity from past to future and the effects are not limited to the woman giving birth, but also that the subsequent generations, and even the other women around it, can influence the birth perceptions and experiences. There are many studies shows that the effects of traumatic events are transmitted to the next generation. This genetic transmission suggests that traumatic birth is a serious problem not only affecting the women who will give birth to nowadays but also having long-term consequences. From today's women to future generations, obstetrics and gynecology nurses have important responsibilities to prevent of reaching traumatic experience of birth, is a natural part of women's life. In this article, it was aimed to investigate the importance of traumatic birth concept, risk factors, existing effects and future generations in the context of literature and to draw attention to the responsibilities of the obstetrics and gynecology nurses.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Currently there is no satisfactory treatment of chronic HDV. We aimed to evaluate the long term efficacy of PEG-interferones. PATIENTS METHODS Patients who received PEG-interferone for chronic delta hepatitis during a 7-year period were retrospectively analysed. End of treatment response, virologic response at 6 months after treatment, and long term efficacy were evaluated. Predictors of treatment response were determined. RESULTS The study group consisted of 31 patients. Twenty-three patients received either PEG-interferone alfa-2a (n=8) or PEG-interferone alfa-2b (n=15) for at least 48 weeks. Thirteen patients had an end of treatment virologic response (ITT:56.5%, PP:68.4%). HDV RNA negativity after 6 months off PEG-interferone treatment was achieved in 12 patients (ITT:52.1%, PP:63.1%). The patients were followed for a median duration of 36 months after PEG-interferone treatment (min-max:12-120 months). Four patients (33.3%) relapsed during the follow-up. Sustained virologic response (ITT) was 34.8% in the long term. Undetectable HDV RNA level at week 24 of treatment and biochemical response were independent predictors of end of treatment response and sustained virologic response in the long term, respectively. CONCLUSION PEG-interferones have an unsatisfactory efficacy on the treatment of HDV because of a considerable relapse in the long term. (Acta gastro-enterol. belg., 2016, 79, 329-335).

BACKGROUND/AIMS Accurate in vivo differentiation of colon polyp histology may serve to prevent the resection of diminutive hyperplastic polyps in the distal colon or the need for histologic assesment of diminutive polyps after resection. The clinical implementation of these strategies depends on the prevalence of advanced histologic findings among diminutive polyps. We aimed to determine the prevalence of advanced histologic features (villous features, high-grade dysplasia, and adenocarcinoma) in diminutive colon polyps and compare it to small and larger polyps. PATIENTS/METHODS The data of patients who had undergone elective colonoscopy at a tertiary-care referral center were retrospectively reviewed. The size, morphology, and location of all polyps were recorded. Polyps were divided into 3 groups according to their size: diminutive (≤ 5 mm), small (6-9 mm), and large (≥ 10 mm). RESULTS A total of 7160 polyps in 3226 eligible patients were evaluated. The mean diameter of the polyps were 6.7 ± 4.9 mm. Histopathologic diagnosis were adenomatous in 4548 (63.5%) and non-adenomatous in 2612 (36.5%). Out of 7160 polyps, 4902 (68.5%) were diminutive (1-5 mm), 1360 (19%) were small (6-9 mm), and 898 (12.5%) large (≥ 10 mm) polyps. Among the diminutive polyps 2739 (55.9%) had adenomatous histology. There were 66 polyps (1.3%) with advanced histology in the diminutive group, 72 (5.2%) in the small group, 263 (29.2%) in the large polyp group. Diminutive polyps had a lower frequency of advanced histology compared to small and large polyps (p = 0.001). When the histology of the polyps were evaluated based on the size of the largest polyp the patient has, 2202 patients had polyp(s) ≤ 5 mm. The frequency of advanced histology was 2.2% in these patients. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of advanced histology in diminutive polyps is quite low (1.3%) which supports the clinical implementation of discard, resect and discard strategies in diminutive polyps.

Abstract
Domestic violence is a universal problem, and sexual violence in marriage, in particular, is a hidden form of it. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to determine to the prevalence of domestic sexual violence by husbands, the prevalence of sexual problems, and the relation of these among married women attending a gynecology outpatient clinic. This study was performed in a university hospital in Turkey and data were collected February-April 2009. The study sample consisted of 200 married women, 53% of whom reported having been exposed to at least one type of domestic sexual violence behaviors by their husbands. Among those behaviors, the rate of marital rape was 33%. The frequency of experiencing any sexual problem was 82%. Women expressed that they mostly had orgasmic problems, and their husbands had premature ejaculation problems. The majority of women who reported sexual violence reported experiencing sexual problems; the frequency of sexual problems was higher in the participants who did (94.3%) than in those who did not report (68.1%) sexual violence (p < .001). Bad sexual harmony (Odds ratio [OR] = 13.50, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 3.87-47.01) and experiencing sexual problems (OR = 12.67, 95% CI = 3.78-42.35) were strongly related to sexual violence in marriage. The results also revealed that the prevalence of sexual violence and sexual problems among those married women who attended gynecology clinics was considerable, even though they did not report this to the health care provider as a problem.

Abstract
This study examined the relation between sexual functions of women in prepregnancy (before conception) and during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This study was conducted on 59 healthy pregnant women. Participants were followed from the eighth week of gestation to 6 months after delivery. Sexual function during pregnancy and the postpartum period was shown to have a significant linear correlation with prepregnancy sexuality. There was no relation between pregnancy and postpartum sexuality. All of the participants who had prepregnancy sexual dysfunction continued to experience it during pregnancy, and the majority of them had a significant level of sexual dysfunction in the postpartum period. Our results showed that prepregnancy sexuality plays an important role in maintaining sexuality during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic inflammation plays an important role on development and progression of Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) through immunologic inflammatory mechanisms. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a new, simple and cheap marker of subclinical inflammation. NLR has recently been used as a systemic inflammation marker in chronic diseases as well as a predictor of prognosis in cardiovascular diseases and malignancies. AIM The objective of the present study was to investigate the relationship between NLR and microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) in elderly population. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Two hundred and forty-two patients with DM (145 diabetic patients with complications, 97 diabetic patients without complications) and 218 control subjects were enrolled in this study. NLR and microvascular complications because of DM were evaluated and compared with other inflammatory markers. RESULTS NLR was higher in the diabetic group (2.21±1.14) than in the controls (2.18±0.76). Furthermore, there was a statistically significant difference between NLR levels in diabetic patients with and without complications (2.46±1.26 vs 2.04±0.51, respectively; p<0.001). The results of themultiple logistic regression analysis depicted that NLR is also an independent predictor for microvascular complications (odds ratio 2.217; 95%confidence interval 1.086-4.526, p=0.029). Receiver operating curve analysis suggested that the optimum NLR cutoff point for microvascular complication was 2.89 with 96.72% specificity, 94.4% positive predictive value. CONCLUSION Increased NLR levels may be associated with microvascular complications of DM in the elderly population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The pathophysiological mechanism of chronic urticaria is still poorly understood and its aetiology is considered to have an autoreactive basis. Autologous serum skin tests (ASSTs) and autologous plasma skin tests (APSTs) comprise the simplest ways for diagnosing autoreactive urticaria (with autoantibodies, histamine-releasing factor and coagulation factors, especially thrombin) in a clinical setting. However, there are still some questions about the specificity of these tests. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the role of autoreactivity in the pathogenesis of chronic urticaria by means of measuring plasma prothrombin fragments 1 + 2, which are used as markers of thrombin, and to compare the APST with the ASST. METHODS Forty-two patients (19 men and 23 women; mean age 35·7 years, range 28-76) and 35 healthy volunteers (19 men and 16 women; mean age 30·3 years, range 20-80) were included in the study. APST, negative (ASST, sodium citrate, saline) and positive (histamine) control tests were performed in the patient and control groups. The levels of plasma prothrombin fragments 1 + 2 were also assessed. RESULTS When the APST was evaluated without negative controls, it was positive in 67% of patients. However, the APST was positive in 0% when it was evaluated with negative controls. Levels of prothrombin fragments 1 + 2 were found to be elevated in patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria. CONCLUSIONS We suggest that as negative control tests were not performed along with the APST in previous studies, the APST showed a high rate of positivity. Thus, the use of APST for evaluating autoreactivity in clinical practice is not superior to the use of ASST and further studies should be conducted.

Abstract
This experiment was designed to investigate the effect of sildenafil citrate on testicular injury after unilateral testicular torsion/detorsion (T/D). Thirty-seven adult male Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups: sham operated group (group 1), T/D+ saline (group 2), T/D+ 0.7 mg sildenafil citrate (group 3) and T/D+ 1.4 mg sildenafil citrate (group 4). Testicular torsion was created by rotating the right testis 720° in a clockwise direction for 2 h in other groups, except for group 1, which was served as sham group. The level of GSH (P < 0.05) in the testis in the group 2 were significantly lower (P < 0.05) and the levels of MDA and NO (P < 0.01 for both) in the testis were significantly higher when compared with those of the group 1. Administration of low dose sildenafil citrate prevented the increases in MDA and NO levels and decreases in GSH values induced by testicular torsion. However, administration of high dose sildenafil citrate did not have any effect on these testicular tissue parameters (P > 0.05). Also, mean values of seminiferous tubules diameters, germinal cell layer thicknesses and mean testicular biopsy score were significantly better in group 3 than groups 2 and 4. These results suggest that T/D injury occurred in testis after unilateral testicular T/D and that administration of low dose sildenafil citrate before detorsion prevents ischemia/reperfusion cellular damage in testicular torsion. Sildenafil citrate probably acts through reduction of reactive oxygen species and support antioxidant enzyme systems.

Abstract
UNLABELLED In this study, ERα gene PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms and COL1A1 gene Sp1 polymorphisms in postmenopausal women were compared with lumbar vertebra and femoral neck BMD values. In conclusion, it was designated that PvuII polymorphism was effective on average lumbar vertebra BMD value in postmenopausal women of our study group. INTRODUCTION Bone mineral density (BMD), the major determinant of osteoporotic fracture risk, has a strong genetic component. Several candidate gene polymorphisms have been implicated in the regulation of this process. In this study, the relationship among BMD values of lumbar vertebra and femoral neck and ERα gene PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms and COL1A1 gene Sp1 polymorphism in 126 postmenopausal women (30 normal, 46 osteopenic, and 50 osteoporotic in terms of bone mineral density) was researched. METHODS The ERα gene PvuII and XbaI genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) whereas the COL1A1 gene Sp1 genotype was determined by real-time PCR. BMDs at the lumbar spine (vertebrae L1-L4) and hip (femur neck) were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. RESULTS According to our study results, the significant difference was found in women with normal, osteopenic, and osteoporotic bone mass in terms of ERα gene PvuII polymorphism "pp" genotype frequency. The "pp" genotype frequency was significantly lower in women with normal bone mass. Average lumbar vertebra BMD value of women with "PP" genotype was significantly higher than that with "pp" genotype. On the other hand, in the evaluations on ERα gene XbaI polymorphism and COL1A1 gene Sp1 polymorphism, it was noted that there was no difference in terms of average BMD values, genotype, and allele frequencies among groups. CONCLUSION In conclusion, it was designated that ERα gene PvuII polymorphism was effective on average lumbar vertebra BMD value in postmenopausal women of our study group.
