Abstract
Secondary lignification of the root exodermis of Kandelia obovata is crucial for its response to adversity such as high salinity and anaerobic environment, and this lignification is also effective in blocking cadmium transport to the roots. However, how the differences in lignification of root exodermis at different developmental stages respond to Cd stress and its regulatory mechanisms have not been revealed. In this study, after analyzing the root structure and cell wall thickness using a Phenom scanning electron microscope as well as measuring cadmium content in the root cell wall, we found that the exodermis of young and mature roots of K. obovata responded to Cd stress through the polymerization of different lignin monomers, forming two different mechanisms: chelation and blocking. Through small RNA sequencing, RLM-5'-RACE and dual luciferase transient expression system, we found that miR397 targets and regulates KoLAC4/17/7 expression. The expression of KoLAC4/17 promoted the accumulation of guaiacyl lignin during lignification and enhanced the binding of cadmium to the cell wall. Meanwhile, KoLAC7 expression promotes the accumulation of syringyl lignin during lignification, which enhances the obstruction of cadmium and improves the tolerance to cadmium. These findings enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the differential lignification of the root exodermis of K. obovata in response to cadmium stress, and provide scientific guidance for the conservation of mangrove forests under heavy metal pollution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. S100A9, a key endothelial injury factor, is markedly upregulated in sepsis-induced ALI; however, its specific mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated. METHODS The Gene Expression Omnibus database transcriptome data for sepsis-induced ALI were used to screen for key differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Using bioinformatics analysis methods such as Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, and protein-protein interaction network analyses, the pathogenesis of sepsis-induced ALI was revealed. Intratracheal infusion of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 10 mg/kg) induced ALI in wild-type (WT) and S100A9 knockout mice. Multiomics analyses (transcriptomics and proteomics) were performed to investigate the potential mechanisms by which S100A9 exacerbates acute lung damage. Hematoxylin-eosin, Giemsa, and TUNEL staining were used to evaluate lung injury and cell apoptosis. LPS (10 μg/mL)-induced murine lung epithelial MLE-12 cells were utilized to mimic ALI and were modulated by S100A9 lentiviral transfection. The impact of S100A9 on cell apoptosis and inflammatory responses were identified using flow cytometry and PCR. The expression of interleukin (IL)-17-nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB)-caspase-3 signaling components was identified using western blotting. RESULTS Six common DEGs (S100A9, S100A8, IFITM6, SAA3, CD177, and MMP9) were identified in the six datasets related to ALI in sepsis. Compared to WT sepsis mice, S100A9 knockout significantly alleviated LPS-induced ALI in mice, with reduced lung structural damage and inflammatory exudation, decreased exfoliated cell and protein content in the lung lavage fluid, and reduced apoptosis and necrosis of pulmonary epithelial cells. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that knocking out S100A9 significantly affected 123 DEGs, which were enriched in immune responses, defense responses against bacteria or lipopolysaccharides, cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions, and the IL-17 signaling pathway. Proteomic analysis revealed that S100A9 knockout alleviated muscle contraction dysfunction and structural remodeling in sepsis-induced ALI. Multiomics analysis revealed that S100A9 may be closely related to interferon-induced proteins with tetratricopeptide repeats and oligoadenylate synthase-like proteins. LPS decreased MLE12 cell activity, accompanied by high expression of S100A9. The expression of IL-17RA, pNFκB, and cleaved-caspase-3 were increased by S100A9 overexpression and reduced by S100A9 knockdown in LPS-stimulated MLE12 cells. S100A9 knockdown decreases transcription of apoptosis-related markers Bax, Bcl and caspase-3, alleviating LPS-induced apoptosis. CONCLUSIONS S100A9 as a key biomarker of sepsis-induced acute lung injury, and exacerbates lung damage and epithelial cell apoptosis induced by LPS via the IL-17-NFκB-caspase-3 signaling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To analyze the perioperative bleeding and hidden blood loss (HBL) of sacroiliac screw minimally invasive treatment of pelvic posterior ring injury and explore the influential factors of HBL after operation for providing reference for clinical treatment. METHOD A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 369 patients with posterior pelvic ring injuries treated with sacroiliac screws internal fixation at our hospital from January 2015 to January 2022. The research was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry in July 2022 (ChiCTR2200061866). The total blood loss (TBL) and HBL of patients were counted, and the factors such as gender, age, and surgical duration were statistically analyzed. The influential factors of HBL were analyzed by multiple linear regression. RESULTS The TBL was 417.96 ± 98.05 ml, of which the visible blood loss (VBL) was 37.00 ± 9.0 ml and the HBL was 380.96 ± 68.8 ml. The HBL accounted for 91.14 ± 7.36% of the TBL. Gender, surgical duration, fixed position, and fixed depth had significant effects on the HBL (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The HBL was the main cause of anemia after minimally invasive treatment of posterior pelvic ring injury with a sacroiliac screw. Gender, surgical duration, fixed position, and fixed depth were closely related to the occurrence of HBL. In clinical treatment, we should consider these influential factors and take effective measures to reduce the impact of HBL on patients.

Abstract
The emergence of nanotechnology has opened up a new way for tumor therapy. Among them, self-assembled nanotechnology has received extensive attention in medicine due to its simple preparation process, high drug-loading capacity, low toxicity, and low cost. This review mainly summarizes the preparation methods of self-assembled nano-delivery systems, as well as the self-assembled mechanism of carrier-free nanomedicine, polymer-carried nanomedicine, polypeptide, and metal drugs, and their applications in tumor therapy. In addition, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages, future challenges, and opportunities of these self-assembled nanomedicines, which provide important references for the development and application of self-assembled nanotechnology in the field of medical therapy.

Abstract
As a rising star among metal oxide nanomaterials, titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been widely investigated and employed in optical applications because of its excellent optical properties. In this work, we demonstrate the efficient and broadband nonlinear photonic properties of methylene blue (MB)-loaded reduced TiO2 (TiO2-x-MB) and explore the performance of a TiO2-x-MB-microfiber photonic device in broadband ultrafast photonics. Within an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) system, utilizing the TiO2-x-MB-microfiber photonic device as a saturable absorber (SA), steady mode-locked pulses together with chaotic pulses were successfully achieved at the wavelength of 1.55 μm. Furthermore, by incorporating the TiO2-x-MB SA into a thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) system, an ultrashort single pulse and multiple pulses were obtained at 2.0 μm. These results indicate that TiO2-x-MB is an excellent nanomaterial for use in mode-locked lasers, being an alternative candidate for ultrafast fiber lasers via exploiting the chemical and physical properties of oxide nanomaterials.

Abstract
Objective: To study the clinicopathological features of Sjogren's syndrome (SS) with liver injury and to improve the understanding of this disease. Methods: Forty-nine patients with SS complicated with liver injury were collected from Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University from October 2008 to January 2022. All patients underwent ultrasound-guided liver biopsy, and all specimens were stained with HE. The histopathologic characteristics were observed and the pathologic indexes were graded. Immunohistochemical stains for CK7, CK19, CD38, MUM1 and CD10 were performed by EnVision method; and special histochemical stains for reticulin, Masson's trichrome, Rhodanine, Prussian blue, periodic acid Schiff (PAS) and D-PAS stains were conducted. Results: The age of patients ranged from 31 to 66 years, including 3 males and 46 females. SS combined with drug-induced liver injury was the most common (22 cases, 44.9%), followed by autoimmune liver disease (13 cases, 26.5%, including primary biliary cholangitis in eight cases, autoimmune hepatitis in 3 cases, and PBC-AIH overlap syndrome in 2 cases), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD, 9 cases, 18.4%) and other lesions (5 cases, 10.2%; including 3 cases of nonspecific liver inflammation, 1 case of liver amyloidosis, and 1 case of porto-sinusoidal vascular disease). Among them, 28 cases (57.1%) were associated with obvious interlobular bile duct injury, mainly in SS combined with PBC group and drug-induced liver injury group. Twenty-three cases (46.9%) were associated with hepatocyte steatosis of varying degrees. In SS with autoimmune liver disease group, ISHAK score, degree of fibrosis bile duct injury, bile duct remodeling, lymphocyte infiltration of portal area, and plasma cell infiltration, MUM1 and CD38 expression; serum ALP and GGT, IgM; elevated globulin; positive AMA, proportion of AMA-M2 positive and IgM positive were all significantly higher than those in other groups(all P<0.05). Serum ALT, direct bilirubin and SSA positive ratio in SS combined with drug liver group were significantly higher than those in other groups(all P<0.05). The serum total cholesterol level in SS combined with PBC group (P=0.006) and NALFD group (P=0.011) were significantly higher than those in other groups (P<0.05). Conclusions: The pathologic manifestations of SS patients with liver injury are varied. The inflammatory lesions of SS patients with autoimmune liver disease are the most serious, and the inflammatory lesions of SS patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-specific inflammation are mild. Comprehensive analysis of liver histopathologic changes and laboratory findings is helpful for the diagnosis of SS complicated with different types of liver injury.

Abstract
In response to increasing antibiotic resistance and the pressing demand for safer infected wound care, probiotics have emerged as promising bioactive agents. To address the challenges associated with the safe and efficient application of probiotics, this study successfully loaded metabolites from Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) into a gelatin cross-linked macromolecular network by an in situ blending and photopolymerization method. The obtained LM-GelMA possesses injectability and autonomous healing capabilities. Importantly, the incorporation of LGG metabolites endows LM-GelMA with excellent antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, while maintaining good biocompatibility. In vivo assessments revealed that LM-GelMA can accelerate wound healing by mitigating infections induced by pathogenic bacteria. This is accompanied by a reduction in the expression of key proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, VEGFR2, and TGF-β, leading to increased re-epithelialization and collagen formation. Moreover, microbiological analysis confirmed that LM-GelMA can modulate the abundance of beneficial wound microbiota at family and genus levels. This study provides a facile strategy and insights into the functional design of hydrogels from the perspective of wound microenvironment regulation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Traditional internal fixation of calcaneus fractures, involving lateral L-shaped incisions and plate fixation, has disadvantages such as increased operative exposure, eccentric plate fixation, and complications. The aim of this study was to design a Spatial Weaving Intra-calcaneal Fixator System (SWIFS) for the treatment of complex calcaneal fractures and to compare its biomechanical properties with those of traditional calcaneal plates. METHODS The computed tomography (CT) data of the normal adult calcaneus was used for modeling, and the largest trapezoidal column structure was cut and separated from the model and related parameters were measured. The SWIFS was designed within the target trapezoid, according to the characteristics of the fracture of the calcaneus. The Sanders model classification type IV calcaneal fracture was established in finite element software, and fixation with calcaneal plate and the SWIFS examined. Overall structural strength distribution and displacement in the two groups were compared. RESULTS The maximum 3D trapezoidal column in the calcaneus was constructed, and the dimensions were measured. The SWIFS and the corresponding guide device were successfully designed. In the one-legged erect position state, the SWIFS group exhibited a peak von Mises equivalent stress of 96.00 MPa, a maximum displacement of 0.31 mm, and a structural stiffness of 2258.06 N/mm. The conventional calcaneal plate showed a peak von Mises equivalent stress of 228.66 Mpa, a maximum displacement of 1.26 mm, and a structural stiffness of 555.56 N/mm. The SWIFS group exhibited a 75.40% decrease in displacement and a 306.45% increase in stiffness. CONCLUSION Compared with fixation by conventional calcaneal plate, the SWIFS provides better structural stability and effective stress distribution.

Abstract
Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) have emerged as a new promising class of anti- cancer agents. However, limitations such as higher costs and unavoidable immunogenicity due to their relatively large structures cannot be ignored. Therefore, the development of lightweight drugs such as small molecule-drug conjugates (SMDCs) based on the ADC design idea has become a new option for targeted therapy. SMDCs are derived from the coupling of small-molecule targeting ligands with cytotoxic drugs. They are composed of three parts: small-molecule targeting ligands, cytotoxic molecules, and linkers. Compared with ADCs, SMDCs can be more rapidly and evenly dispersed into tumor tissues, with low cost and no immunogenicity. In this article, we will give a comprehensive review of different types of SMDCs currently under clinical trials to provide ideas and inspirations for the development of clinically applicable SMDCs.

Abstract
The limited tolerance of crustacean tissue physiology to a high-fat diet has captured the attention of researchers. Yet, investigations into the physiological response mechanisms of the crustacean intestinal barrier system to a high-fat diet are progressing slowly. Elucidating potential physiological mechanisms and determining the precise regulatory targets would be of great physiological and nutritional significance. This study established a high-fat diet-induced intestinal barrier damage model in Macrobrachium rosenbergii, and systematically investigated the functions of gut microbiota and its functional metabolites. The study achieved this by monitoring phenotypic indicators, conducting 16S rDNA sequencing, targeted metabolomics, and in vitro anaerobic fermentation of intestinal contents. Feeding prawns with control and high-fat diets for 8 weeks, the lipid level of 7 % in the CON diet and 12 % in the HF diet. Results showed that high-fat intake impaired the intestinal epithelial cells, intestinal barrier structure, and permeability of M. rosenbergii, activated the tight junction signaling pathway inhibiting factor NF-κB transcription factor Relish/myosin light chain kinase (MLCK), and suppressed the expression of downstream tight junction proteins zona occludens protein 1 (ZO-1) and Claudin. High-fat intake resulted in a significant increase in abundance of Aeromonas, Enterobacter, and Clostridium sensu stricto 3 genera, while Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Bacteroides, and Ruminococcaceae UCG-010 genera were significantly decreased. Targeted metabolomics results of bile acids and short-chain fatty acids in intestinal contents and in vitro anaerobic fermentation products showed a marked rise in the abundance of DCA, 12-KetoLCA, 7,12-diketoLCA, and Isovaleric acid, and a significant reduction in the abundance of HDCA, CDCA, and Acetate in the HF group. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a substantial correlation between various genera (Clostridium sensu stricto 3, Lactobacillus, Bacteroides) and secondary metabolites (DCA, HDCA, 12-KetoLCA, Acetate), and the latter was significantly correlated with intestinal barrier function related genes (Relish, ZO-1, MLCK, vitamin D receptor, and ecdysone receptor). These findings indicate that gut microorganisms and their specific bile acids and short-chain fatty acid secondary metabolites play a crucial role in the process of high-fat-induced intestinal barrier damage of M. rosenbergii. Moreover, identifying and targeting these factors could facilitate precise regulation of high-fat nutrition for crustaceans.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the diagnosis and surgical treatment of high-risk anomalous aortic origin of coronary artery (AAOCA). Methods: This is a retrospective case series study. From January 2016 to July 2023, 24 cases of high-risk AAOCA underwent surgical treatment in Department of Cardiac Surgery, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. There were 18 males and 6 females, operatively aged (M (IQR)) 13 (26) years (range: 0.3 to 57.0 years). They were confirmed by cardiac ultrasound and cardiac CT, all of which had anomalous coronary running between the aorta and the pulmonary artery. There were 15 cases of the right coronary artery from the left aortic sinus of Valsalva, 6 cases of left coronary artery from the right aortic sinus of Valsalva, 3 cases of the sigle coronary artery. Only 3 patients had no obvious related symptoms (2 cases were complicated with a positive exercise stress test and 1 case with other intracardiac malformations), 21 cases had a history of chest tightness, chest pain, or syncope after exercise. Three patients suffered syncope after exercise and underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation (2 cases were treated with an extracorporeal membrane oxygenerator (ECMO)). The gap from the first symptom to the diagnosis was 4.0 (11.5) months (range: 0.2 to 84.0 months). The detection rate of coronary artery abnormalities suggested by the first cardiac ultrasound was only 37.5% (9/24). Seven patients were complicated with other cardiac diseases (4 cases with congenital heart defects, 2 cases with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, 1 case with mitral valve disease). Results: All 24 patients underwent surgical treatment (23 cases underwent abnormal coronary artery unroofing, 1 case underwent coronary artery bypass grafting), and 5 patients underwent other intracardiac malformation correction at the same time. There were no death or surgery related complications in the hospital for 30 days after the operation. A patient with preoperative extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation was continuously assisted by ECMO after emergency AAOCA correction and had complications such as limb ischemia necrosis and renal dysfunction after the operation. During the follow-up of 2.2 (3.3) years (range: 1 month to 7.2 years), one patient who previously underwent percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty with a stent implant experienced significant postoperative symptomatic relief, and the other discharged patients had no related symptoms. Conclusions: The accurate rate of initial diagnosis for high-risk AAOCA is still low, but the risk of cardiovascular accidents is high. For sports-related chest pain and other symptoms, more attention should be paid to the detection of AAOCA, especially for adolescents. Exercise stress testing can be helpful in evaluating the cardiovascular risk of asymptomatic AAOCA. Instant surgical treatment can achieve satisfactory curative effects.

Abstract
Tumor targeting has been a great challenge for drug delivery systems. A number of nanotechnology-derived drug carriers have been developed for cancer treatment to improve efficacy and biocompatibility. Among them, the emergence of cell-nanocarriers has attracted great attention, which simulates cell function and has good biocompatibility. They can also escape the clearance of reticuloendothelial system, showing a long-cycle effect. The inherent tumor migration and tumor homing ability of cells increase their significance as tumor-targeting vectors. In this review, we focus on the combination of stem cells, immune cells, red blood cells, and cell membranes to nanocarriers, which enable chemotherapy agents to efficiently target lesion sites and improve drug distribution while being low toxic and safe. In addition, we discuss the pros and cons of these nanoparticles as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Although research to address these limitations is still ongoing, this promising tumor-targeted drug delivery system will provide a safe and effective platform against cancer.

Abstract
In recent years, members of the Dmrt family, TGF-β superfamily and Sox family have been recognized as crucial genes for sex determination/differentiation across diverse animal species. Nevertheless, knowledge regarding the abundance and potential functions of these genes in abalone remains limited. In this study, a total of 5, 10, and 7 members of the Dmrt family, the TGF-β superfamily and the Sox family, respectively, were identified in the Pacific abalone Haliotis discus hannai. Sequence characteristics, phylogenetic relationships and spatiotemporal expression profiles of these genes were investigated. Notably, HdDmrt-04 (Dmrt1/1L-like) emerged as a potential mollusc-specific gene with a preponderance for expression in the testis. Interestingly, none of the TGF-β superfamily members exhibited specific or elevated expression in the gonads, highlighting the need for further investigation into their role in abalone sex differentiation. The Sox proteins in H. discus hannai were categorized into 7 subfamilies: B1, B2, C, D, E, F, and H. Among them, HdSox-07 (SoxH-like) was observed to play a crucial role in testis development, while HdSox-03 (SoxB1-like) and HdSox-04 (SoxC-like) probably cooperate in abalone ovary development. Taken together, the results of the present study suggested that HdDmrt-04 and HdSox-07 can be used as male-specific markers for gonad differentiation in H. discus hannai and imply conservation of their functions across invertebrates and vertebrates. Our findings provide new insights into the evolution and genetic structure of the Dmrt family, the TGF-β superfamily and the Sox family in abalone and pave the way for a deeper understanding of sex differentiation in gastropods.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of the TRIANGLE operation after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced pancreatic cancer(LAPC). Methods: This study is a retrospective case series analysis. Between January 2020 and December 2022, a total of 103 patients were diagnosed as LAPC who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy at the Pancreas Center, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Among them, 26 patients (25.2%) underwent the TRIANGLE operation. There were 15 males and 11 females,with a age of (59±7) years (range: 49 to 74 years). The pre-treatment serum CA19-9(M(IQR)) was 248.8(391.6)U/ml (range: 0 to 1 428 U/ml),and the serum carcinoembryonic antigen was 4.1(3.8)μg/L(range: 1.4 to 13.4 μg/L). The neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimens included: mFOLFIRINOX regimen in 6 cases(23.1%), GnP regimen in 14 cases(53.8%), and mFOLFIRINOX+GnP regimen in 6 cases(23.1%). The follow-up duration extended until June 2023 or until the occurrence of the patient's death or loss to follow-up. The Kaplan-Meier method was employed to estimate the 1-year and 3-year overall survival rates. Results: After neoadjuvant chemotherapy,CA19-9 levels decreased by 92.3(40.1)%(range:2.1% to 97.7%). Evaluation of the response to treatment revealed 13 cases(50.0%) of stable disease,11 cases(42.3%) of partial response,and 2 cases(7.7%) of complete response. The surgical operation consisted of 12 cases(46.2%) of pancreaticoduodenectomy,12 cases(46.2%) of distal pancreatectomy,and 2 cases(7.7%) of total pancreatectomy. Margin determination was based on the "standardised pathology protocol" and the "1 mm" principle. No R2 and R1(direct) resections were observed,while the R0 resection rate was 61.5%(16/26), and the R1(1 mm) resection rate was 38.5%(10/26).The R1(1 mm) resection rates for the anterior margin,posterior margin,transected margin,portal vein groove margin,and uncinate margin were 23.1%(6/26),19.2%(5/26),12.5%(3/24),2/14, and 1/12, respectively. The overall postoperative complication rate was 57.8%(15/26),with major complications including grade B/C pancreatic fistula 25.0%(6/24,excluding 2 cases of total pancreatectomy),delayed gastric emptying in 23.1%(6/26),wound complications 11.5%(3/26),postoperative hemorrhage 7.7%(2/26), chylous fistula 7.7%(2/26) and bile fistula 3.8%(1/26). No reoperation was performed during the perioperative period(<90 days). One patient died on the 32nd day postoperatively due to a ruptured pseudoaneurysm. A total of 25 patients were followed up,with a follow-up time of 21(24)months(range: 8 to 42 months). During the follow-up period,8 cases(32.0%) died due to tumor recurrence and metastasis,while 17 patients(68.0%) remained alive,including 11 cases of disease-free survival,5 cases of distant metastasis,and 1 case of local recurrence. The overall survival rates at 1- and 3-year after the initiation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy were 95.8% and 58.9%, respectively. The overall survival rates at 1- and 3-year after surgery were 77.7% and 57.8%, respectively. Conclusion: Performing pancreatoduodenectomy according to the Heidelberg triangle protocol in LAPC patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy might increase the R0 resection rate without increasing perioperative mortality or the incidence of major postoperative complications.

Abstract
Regeneration of lost body parts is a widespread phenomenon across annelids. However, the molecular inducers of the cell sources for this reparative morphogenesis have not been identified. We have identified a regeneration-related gene Oxfibrillin from the transcriptome analysis of a polychaeta, Ophryotrocha xiamen, which is found to be a well-suited model to study the mechanisms of regeneration. Fibrillins are large glycoproteins that assemble to form the microfibrils and regulate growth factors or other transfer processes. Here, we obtained the 31,274 bp genomic DNA sequences of Oxfibrillin. The coding sequence length was 5784 bp encoding 1927 amino acids with a VWD domain, EGF/cb-EGF domains, a TR domain, and a transmembrane domain. Oxfibrillin was positioned within the subgroup of invertebrates and showed low scores for homology to mammalian fibrillin. In gene expression analysis, Oxfibrillin genes were constantly upregulated during the early regeneration process and then remained stable until the formation of the complete tail which indicated that it might be a vital factor to affect posterior regeneration process. Therefore, the Oxfibrillin of O. xiamen might play important roles in the regeneration process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to validate the availability of superimposing full-color mandibular digital models (DMs) by the morphological characteristics of vessels in extraction adult patients. METHODS Twenty-eight adult patients were included, and their DMs were superimposed with pre- and posttreatment cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the morphological characteristics of lingual vessels. The measurements of each tooth were compared under the same coordinate system. RESULTS The ICC results displayed exceptional agreement in intra- and interrater assessments, with scores exceeding 0.891 in the crown for intrarater agreement and scores surpassing 0.888 in the crown for interrater agreement. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were found in the 2 superimposition methods (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION The morphological characteristics of vessels under the mucogingival junction in the lingual side of mandible of are stable enough for the superimposition of mandibular DMs in the adult patients undergo orthodontic treatment with premolars extraction.

Abstract
Echiura is a distinctive family of unsegmented sausage-shaped marine worms whose phylogenetic relationship still needs strong evidence from the phylogenomic analysis. In this family, Urechis unicinctus is known for its high nutritional and medicinal value and adaptation to harsh intertidal conditions. Herein, we combined PacBio long-read, short-read Illumina and Hi-C sequencing, generating a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of U. unicinctus. The assembled genome spans ~1,138.6 Mb with a scaffold N50 of 68.3 Mb, of which 1,113.8 Mb (97.82%) were anchored into 17 pseudo-chromosomes. The BUSCO analysis demonstrated the completeness of the genome assembly and gene model prediction are 93.5% and 91.5%, respectively. A total of 482.1 Mb repetitive sequences, 21,524 protein-coding genes, 1,535 miRNAs, 3,431 tRNAs, 124 rRNAs, and 348 snRNAs were annotated. This study significantly improves the quality of U. unicinctus genome assembly, sets the footsteps for molecular breeding and further study in genome evolution, genetic and molecular biology of U. unicinctus.

Abstract
The development of artificial spider silk with properties similar to native silk has been a challenging task in materials science. In this study, we use a microfluidic device to create continuous fibers based on recombinant MaSp2 spidroin. The strategy incorporates ion-induced liquid-liquid phase separation, pH-driven fibrillation, and shear-dependent induction of β-sheet formation. We find that a threshold shear stress of approximately 72 Pa is required for fiber formation, and that β-sheet formation is dependent on the presence of polyalanine blocks in the repetitive sequence. The MaSp2 fiber formed has a β-sheet content (29.2%) comparable to that of native dragline with a shear stress requirement of 111 Pa. Interestingly, the polyalanine blocks have limited influence on the occurrence of liquid-liquid phase separation and hierarchical structure. These results offer insights into the shear-induced crystallization and sequence-structure relationship of spider silk and have significant implications for the rational design of artificially spun fibers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) superfamily genes can regulate various processes, especially in embryogenesis, adult development, and homeostasis. To understand the evolution and divergence patterns of the TGF-β superfamily in scallops, genome-wide data from the Bay scallop (Argopecten irradians), the Zhikong scallop (Chlamys farreri) and the Yesso scallop (Mizuhopecten yessoensis) were systematically analysed using bioinformatics methods. RESULTS Twelve members of the TGF-β superfamily were identified for each scallop. The phylogenetic tree showed that these genes were grouped into 11 clusters, including BMPs, ADMP, NODAL, GDF, activin/inhibin and AMH. The number of exons and the conserved motif showed some differences between different clusters, while genes in the same cluster exhibited high similarity. Selective pressure analysis revealed that the TGF-β superfamily in scallops was evolutionarily conserved. The spatiotemporal expression profiles suggested that different TGF-β members have distinct functions. Several BMP-like and NODAL-like genes were highly expressed in early developmental stages, patterning the embryonic body plan. GDF8/11-like genes showed high expression in striated muscle and smooth muscle, suggesting that these genes may play a critical role in regulating muscle growth. Further analysis revealed a possible duplication of AMH, which played a key role in gonadal growth/maturation in scallops. In addition, this study found that several genes were involved in heat and hypoxia stress in scallops, providing new insights into the function of the TGF-β superfamily. CONCLUSION Characteristics of the TGF-β superfamily in scallops were identified, including sequence structure, phylogenetic relationships, and selection pressure. The expression profiles of these genes in different tissues, at different developmental stages and under different stresses were investigated. Generally, the current study lays a foundation for further study of their pleiotropic biological functions in scallops.

Abstract
The prognosis of pancreatic cancer (PCa) is extremely poor because of its resistance to conventional therapies. Many previous studies have demonstrated that triptolide (TPL) has a potent tumoricidal activity on PCa. However, the clinical application of TPL in tumor therapy has been greatly limited by its poor aqueous solubility, short half-time, high toxicity and inefficient delivery. Here, through the engineering of prodrug technology combined with the nanodrug-delivery system (NDDS) strategy, we modified the main active site of TPL C14-OH by esterification reaction to obtain a highly lipophilic prodrug, and then encapsulated the drug in a phospholipid bilayer in liposomal vehicles through the thin-film hydration method for efficient delivery. A delivery system based on TPL lignocerate liposomes (TPL-LA-lip) for drug loading for targeted therapy against PCa was established. Our results showed that TPL-LA demonstrates exceptional compatibility with the phospholipid layer of liposomes, thereby enhancing drug retention in liposomal vehicle and improving tumor targeting and cellular uptake. Moreover, The system of TPL-LA-lip exhibited a sustained drug release profile in vitro, and intravenous administration significantly impedes tumor progression while reducing the toxicity of TPL in the PCa mouse model. These results demonstrated that the prodrug-loaded liposomes could significantly reduce the toxicity of TPL and enhance the biosafety. Overall, this prodrug approach is a simple and effective method to transform the highly toxic TPL into a safe and efficacious nanomedicine with excellent in vivo tolerability for PCa treatment.

Abstract
Among various nanocarriers, liposomes, and micelles are relatively mature drug delivery systems with the advantages of prolonging drug half-life, reducing toxicity, and improving efficacy. However, both have problems, such as poor stability and insufficient targeting. To further exploit the excellent properties of micelles and liposomes and avoid their shortcomings, researchers have developed new drug delivery systems by combining the two and making use of their respective advantages to achieve the goals of increasing the drug loading capacity, multiple targeting, and multiple drug delivery. The results have demonstrated that this new combination approach is a very promising delivery platform. In this paper, we review the combination strategies, preparation methods, and applications of micelles and liposomes to introduce the research progress, advantages, and challenges of composite carriers.

Abstract
The treatment of flue gas containing HCl and CO2 has garnered significant attention. This study proposes an integrated high-gravity process based on a rotor-stator reactor (RSR) for HCl removal and CO2 capture through mineralization using carbide slag slurry (CSS), an industrial waste. Experimental and modeling studies were conducted to investigate the absorption performance and mass-transfer mechanism. Considering the properties of CSS, Ca(OH)2 slurry was used to simulate CSS for HCl and CO2 absorption in the RSR. The influences of solid content, rotational speed, gas flow rate, and liquid flow rate were investigated, resulting in HCl and CO2 absorption efficiencies of 87.3%-98.9% and 33.8%-65.7%, respectively. Two mechanistic mass-transfer models were established based on surface renewal theory and penetration theory, respectively, to depict the process. The predicted values aligned well with the experimental results, with deviations generally less than 25%. The study further explored the absorption of HCl and CO2 using an actual CSS operated in recycle in the RSR and investigated the characteristics of the solids in fresh and carbonated CSS using XRD, TGA, and SEM. The results indicated that the actual CSS had excellent absorption performance, generally consistent with Ca(OH)2 slurry, and that Ca(OH)2 in CSS was almost completely converted to CaCO3 (calcite).

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the application and effect of capillary fascia preservation between the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and common carotid artery (fascia preservation method) in nerve protection when dissecting right level Ⅵ lymph nodes for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods: A retrospective cohort study enrolling 195 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma undergoing right level Ⅵ lymph node dissection in Beijing Tongren Hospital from March 2021 to August 2022 was carried out. The RLN was dissected by fascia preservation method in study group and by routine method in control group. The intraoperative electrical signal amplitude of the RLN, the number of dissected lymph nodes, and the postoperative complications were recorded and analyzed. Results: A total of 195 patients (study group: 94 cases, control group: 101 cases) were collected. There were 71 males and 124 females, with the median age of 32 (39, 51) years. In the study group, the total number of right level Ⅵ lymph nodes was significantly larger than the number of right Ⅵa level lymph nodes [8 (6, 11) vs 6 (4, 8), P<0.001]. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the number of level Ⅵa or level Ⅵb lymph nodes [Ⅵa: 6 (4, 8) vs 5 (3, 7), P=0.373; Ⅵb: 3 (1, 4) vs 2 (1, 4), P=0.337] and metastasis rate [Ⅵa: 51.1% (48/94) vs 52.5% (53/101), P=0.844; Ⅵb: 12.8% (12/94) vs 15.8% (16/101), P=0.541]. The ratio of electromyography (EMG) amplitude R2 in lower level Ⅵ and entry into larynx (grouped as>90%, 50%~90%,<50%) in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.001). No significant differences were detected between the two groups in temporary RLN paralysis [1.1% (1/94) vs 2.0% (2/101), P=1.000]. Conclusions: Fascia preservation method can decrease the stimulus and traction to RLN and preserve the capillary network serving RLN. It can thoroughly dissect lymph nodes and decrease the injury of RLN.

Abstract
As an important mangrove species, Kandelia obovata plays an irreplaceable role in the coastal ecosystem. However, due to a lack of genetic technology, there is limited research on its functional genes. As such, establishing an efficient and rapid functional verification system is particularly important. In this study,tobacco rattle virus (TRV) and the phytoene desaturase gene KoPDS were used as the vector and target gene, respectively, to establish a virus-induced gene silencing system (VIGS) in K. obovata. Besides, the system was also used to verify the role of a Chlorophyll a/b binding protein (Cab) gene KoCAB in leaf carbon sequestration of K. obovata. RNA-Seq and qRT-PCR showed that the highest gene-silencing efficiency could reach 90% after 10 days of inoculation and maintain above 80% after 15 days, which was achieved with resuspension buffer at pH 5.8 and Agrobacterium culture at OD600 of 0.4-0.6. Taken together, the TRV-mediated VIGS system established herein is the first genetic analysis tool for mangroves, which may greatly impel functional genomics studies in mangrove plants.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of distal pancreatectomy with celiac axis resection(DP-CAR). Methods: A total of 89 consecutive patients (50 males and 39 females) who were diagnosed with pancreatic body cancer and underwent DP-CAR in Pancreas Center,First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University between September 2013 and June 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. There were 50 males and 39 females,with age(M(IQR)) of 63(12) years(range:43 to 81 years). Perioperative parameters,pathology results and follow-up data of these patients were analyzed,χ2 or Fisher's test for categorical data while the Wilcoxon test for quantitative data. Survival results were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier survival method. Results: Among 89 cases,cases combined with portal vein-superior mesenteric vein or organ resection accounted for 22.5% (20/89) and 42.7% (38/89),respectively. The operative time,blood loss and postoperative hospital stay were 270 (110) minutes,300 (300) ml and 13 (10) days,respectively. The overall morbidity rate was 67.4% (60/89) while the major morbidity was 11.2% (10/89). The increase rate in transient liver enzymes was 42.7% (38/89),3.4% (3/89) for liver failure,53.9% (48/89) for clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula,1.1% (1/89) for bile leak,3.4% (3/89) for chylous leak of grade B and C,11.2% (10/89) for abdominal infection,9.0% (8/89) for postoperative hemorrhage of grade B and C,4.5% (4/89) for delayed gastric emptying,6.7% (6/89) for deep vein thrombosis,3.4% (3/89) for reoperation,4.5% (4/89)for hospital mortality,7.9% (7/89) for 90-day mortality. The pathological type was pancreatic cancer for all 89 cases and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma made up 92.1% (82/89). The tumor size was 4.8(2.0) cm, ranging from 1.5 to 12.0 cm. The number of lymph nodes harvested was 14 (13)(range:2 to 33),with a positive lymph node rate of 13.0% (24.0%). The resection R0 rate was 30.0% (24/80) and the R1 (<1 mm) rate was 58.8% (47/80). The median overall survival time was 21.3 months (95%CI: 15.6 to 24.3) and the median disease-free survival time was 19.1 months (95%CI: 11.7 to 25.1). The overall survival at 1-year and 2-year were 69.60% and 39.52%. The median survival time of 58 patients with adjuvant chemotherapy was 24.3 months (95%CI: 17.8 to 32.3) while that of 13 patients without any kind of adjuvant therapy was 8.4 months (95%CI: 7.3 to 22.3). Seven patients accepted neoadjuvant chemotherapy and there was no significant morbidity among them,with a resection rate of R0 of 5/7. Conclusion: DP-CAR is safe and feasible for selective cases,which could be more valuable in improving long-term survival when combined with (neo) adjuvant therapy.

Abstract
How the coral microbiome responds to oceanic pH changes due to anthropogenic climate change, including ocean acidification and deliberate artificial alkalization, remains an open question. Here, we applied a 16S profile and GeoChip approach to microbial taxonomic and gene functional landscapes in the coral Galaxea fascicularis under three pH levels (7.85, 8.15, and 8.45) and tested the influence of pH changes on the cell growth of several coral-associated strains and bacterial populations. Statistical analysis of GeoChip-based data suggested that both ocean acidification and alkalization destabilized functional cores related to aromatic degradation, carbon degradation, carbon fixation, stress response, and antibiotic biosynthesis in the microbiome, which are related to holobiont carbon cycling and health. The taxonomic analysis revealed that bacterial species richness was not significantly different among the three pH treatments, but the community compositions were significantly distinct. Acute seawater alkalization leads to an increase in pathogens as well as a stronger taxonomic shift than acidification, which is worth considering when using artificial ocean alkalization to protect coral ecosystems from ocean acidification. In addition, our co-occurrence network analysis reflected microbial community and functional shifts in response to pH change cues, which will further help to understand the functional ecological role of the microbiome in coral resilience.

Abstract
Harmful algal blooms (HABs), mainly formed by dinoflagellates, have detrimental effects on marine ecosystems and public health. Therefore, detecting HABs is crucial for early warning and prevention of HABs as well as the mitigation of their adverse effects. Although various methods, such as light microscopy, electron microscopy, real-time PCR, and microarrays, have already been established for the detection of HABs, they are still cumbersome to be exploited in the field. Therefore, rapid nucleic detection methods such as recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP)-lateral flow dipstick (LFD) have been developed for monitoring bloom-forming algae. However, the CRISPR/Cas-based detection of HABs has yet to be applied to this field. In this study, we developed a method for detecting Karenia mikimotoi (K. mikimotoi), a typical ichthyotoxic dinoflagellate responsible for global blooms. Our method utilized Cas12a from Lachnospiraceae bacterium ND2006 (LbCas12a) to target and cleave the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of K. mikimotoi, guided by RNA. We leveraged the target-activated non-specific single-stranded deoxyribonuclease cleavage activity of LbCas12a to generate signals that can be detected using fluorescence-read machines or LFDs. By combining RPA and LbCas12a with reporters, we significantly enhanced the sensitivity, enabling the detection of ITS-harboring plasmids at concentrations as low as 9.8 aM and genomic DNA of K. mikimotoi at levels as low as 3.6 × 10-5 ng/μl. Moreover, we simplified the genomic DNA extraction method using cellulose filter paper (CFP) by directly eluting the DNA into RPA reactions, reducing the extraction time to < 30 s. The entire process, from genomic DNA extraction to result reporting, takes less than an hour, enabling the identification of nearly a single cell. In conclusion, our method provided an easy, specific, and sensitive approach for detecting K. mikimotoi, offering the potential for efficient monitoring and management of K. mikimotoi blooms.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the morphology and immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of pseudostratified ependymal tubules in ovarian mature teratoma (MT). Methods: Five cases of ovarian MT with pseudostratified ependymal tubules were collected from Shenzhen Hospital(Futian) of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and the Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from March 2019 to March 2022. In addition, 15 cases of ovarian MT with monolayer ependymal epithelium from Shenzhen Hospital (Futian) of Guangzhou University of Chinese medicine and seven cases of immature teratoma (IMT) from Hainan Provincial People's Hospital from March 2019 to March 2022 were collected as control. The morphologic characteristics and immunophenotypes of pseudostratified ependymal tubules, monolayer ependymal epithelium, and primitive neural epithelial tubules were observed and compared by H&E stain and IHC expression pattern of genes related to the differentiation status of neuroepithelium, namely SALL4, Glypican3, nestin, SOX2, Foxj1, and Ki-67. Results: Mean age of the five patients of ovarian MT with pseudostratified ependymal tubules was 26 years (range from 19 to 31 years). Two tumors were located in the left ovary and three in the right. All five cases were excised, and clinical follow-up was available (mean follow-up 1.5 years; range 0.5 to 3 years). No recurrence was noted in any cases. The pseudostratified ependymal tubules of ovarian MT, which were lined with columnar or oval epithelia up to 4-6 layers, were morphologically similar to the primitive neuroepithelial tubules of IMT and different from monolayer ependymal epithelium of ovarian MT. By immunohistochemistry, SALL4 and Glypican3 were negative, Foxj1 was positive and Ki-67 index was lower in the pseudostratified ependymal tubules and the monolayer ependymal epithelium of ovarian MT. However, the primitive neuroepithelial tubules of IMT showed variably expression of SALL4 and Glypican3, were negative for Foxj1 and high Ki-67 index. All the above three groups expressed nestin and SOX2. Conclusions: The pseudostratified ependymal tubules of ovarian MT, which have morphological similarities to the primitive neuroepithelial tubules of IMT, are similar to the monolayer ependymal epithelia of the MT in immunophenotype. IHC assessment of Foxj1 and Ki-67 is helpful to differentiate the pseudostratified ependymal tubules of ovarian MT from the primitive neuroepithelial tubules of IMT.

Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the positive rate of left posterior lymph nodes of the superior mesenteric artery (14cd-LN) in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic head carcinoma,to analyze the impact of 14cd-LN dissection on lymph node staging and tumor TNM staging. Methods: The clinical and pathological data of 103 consecutive patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy at Pancreatic Center,the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January to December 2022 were analyzed,retrospectively. There were 69 males and 34 females,with an age(M (IQR))of 63.0 (14.0) years (range:48.0 to 86.0 years). The χ2 test and Fisher's exact probability method was used for comparison of the count data between the groups,respectively. The rank sum test was used for comparison of the measurement data between groups. Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyzes were used for the analysis of risk factors. Results: All 103 patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy successfully using the left-sided uncinate process and the artery first approach. Pathological examination showed pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in all cases. The location of the tumors was the pancreatic head in 40 cases,pancreatic head-uncinate in 45 cases,and pancreatic head-neck in 18 cases. Of the 103 patients,38 cases had moderately differentiated tumor and 65 cases had poorly differentiated tumor. The diameter of the lesions was 3.2 (0.8) cm (range:1.7 to 6.5 cm),the number of lymph nodes harvested was 25 (10) (range:11 to 53),and the number of positive lymph nodes was 1 (3) (range:0 to 40). The lymph node stage was stage N0 in 35 cases (34.0%),stage N1 in 43 cases (41.7%),and stage N2 in 25 cases (24.3%). TNM staging was stage ⅠA in 5 cases (4.9%),stage ⅠB in 19 cases (18.4%),stage ⅡA in 2 cases (1.9%),stage ⅡB in 38 cases (36.9%),stage Ⅲ in 38 cases (36.9%),and stage Ⅳ in 1 case (1.0%). In 103 patients with pancreatic head cancer,the overall positivity rate for 14cd-LN was 31.1% (32/103),and the positive rates for 14c-LN and 14d-LN were 21.4% (22/103) and 18.4% (19/103),respectively. 14cd-LN dissection increased the number of lymph nodes (P<0.01) and positive lymph nodes (P<0.01). As a result of the 14cd-LN dissection,the lymph node stage was changed in 6 patients,including 5 patients changed from N0 to N1 and 1 patient changed from N1 to N2. Similarly,the TNM stage was changed in 5 patients,including 2 patients changed from stage ⅠB to ⅡB,2 patients changed from stage ⅡA to ⅡB,and 1 patient changed from stage ⅡB to Ⅲ. Tumors located in the pancreatic head-uncinate (OR=3.43,95%CI:1.08 to 10.93,P=0.037) and the positivity of 7,8,9,12 LN (OR=5.45,95%CI:1.45 to 20.44,P=0.012) were independent risk factors for 14c-LN metastasis; while tumors with diameter >3 cm (OR=3.93,95%CI:1.08 to 14.33,P=0.038) and the positivity of 7,8,9,12 LN (OR=11.09,95%CI:2.69 to 45.80,P=0.001) were independent risk factors for 14d-LN metastasis. Conclusion: Due to its high positive rate in pancreatic head cancer,dissection of 14cd-LN during pancreaticoduodenectomy should be recommended,which can increase the number of lymph nodes harvested,provide a more accurate lymph node staging and TNM staging.

Abstract
To develop the dressings that can both inhibit bacterial infection and actively promote healing is of great importance for wound repair and the development of medical technology. Electrical stimulation has multiple roles in wound healing, including hemostasis, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, guidance of cell migration, promotion of re-epithelialization, and proliferation of cells. Metal micro-battery can provide a stable source of electrical stimulation energy without an external power source. Thus, the integration of metal micro-battery with medical dressings opens up new opportunities for the wireless application of electrical stimulation in wound repair. In this review, the mechanism of the effect of electrical stimulation on wound healing is systematically presented, then recent advances in metal micro-battery dressings, including preparation methods, antibacterial performance, and healing properties are mainly introduced, and the current challenges and prospects of metal micro-battery dressings are also provided.

Abstract
In order to improve the accuracy of the parameters needed in the discrete element method (DEM) simulation process of wet-sticky feed raw materials, the JKR contact model in DEM was used to calibrate and verify the physical parameters of wet-sticky feed raw materials. Firstly, the parameters that have a significant effect on the angle of repose were screened using a Plackett-Burman design, and the screened parameters were: MM rolling friction coefficient, MM static friction coefficient, and JKR surface energy. Then, the three screened parameters were selected as the influencing factors and the accumulation angle of repose was selected as evaluating indicator; thus, the performance optimization experiments were carried out with the quadratic orthogonal rotation design. Taking the experimentally measured angle of repose value of 54.25°as the target value, the significance parameters were optimized, and the optimal combination was obtained : MM rolling friction factor was 0.21, MM static friction factor was 0.51, and JKR surface energy was 0.65. Finally, the angle of repose and SPP tests were compared under the calibrated parameters. The results showed that the relative error of experimental and simulated tests in angle of repose was 0.57%, and the compression displacement and compression ratio of the experimental and simulated tests in SPP were 1.01% and 0.95%, respectively, which improved the reliability of the simulated results. The research findings provide a reference basis for simulation study and optimal design of related equipment for feed raw materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on clinical outcomes after robotic cardiac surgery, and to explore the postoperative obesity paradox. METHODS The data of 146 patients who underwent robotic cardiac surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) from July 2016 to June 2022 in Daping Hospital of Army Medical University were retrospectively analyzed, and their demographic data and related clinical data were statistically analyzed. The mean age was (42.88 ± 13.01) years, 55 (37.67%) were male and 91 (62.33%) were female. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to preoperative BMI: lean group (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2; n = 17; 11.64%), normal group (BMI 18.5 kg/m2 to 23.9 kg/m2; n = 81; 55.48%), and overweight and obese group (BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2; n = 48; 32.88%). Multivariate analysis was performed to compare clinical outcomes across BMI groups. RESULTS Preoperative data in different BMI groups showed that there were statistically significant differences in age, height, weight, body surface area (BSA), diabetes, left atrial anteroposterior diameter (LAD), triglyceride (TG), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (all P < 0.05). Postoperative clinical outcomes showed that there was no statistical difference between the lean group and the normal group; the intensive care unit stay and postoperative hospital stay in the overweight and obese group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (P < 0.05), and the risk of postoperative cardiac surgery-related acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) was significantly increased (P = 0.021); further Multiple Binary Logistic Regression Analysis suggested that preoperative TG (OR = 1.772, 95% CI 1.068-2.942, P = 0.027) and operation time ≥ 300 min (OR = 3.823, 95% CI 1.098-13.308, P = 0.035) were independent risk factors for postoperative CSA-AKI. CONCLUSIONS Overweight and obese patients had significantly prolonged intensive care unit stay and postoperative hospital stay after robotic cardiac surgery, and significantly increased incidence of postoperative CSA-AKI, which did not support the obesity paradox; preoperative TG and operation time ≥ 300 min were independent risk factors for postoperative CSA-AKI.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficacy of U-shaped internal fixation for calcaneal tubercle fracture after nearly 3 years of case follow-up and data collection. METHOD We retrospectively analyzed the collected data from 16 patients with avulsion fracture of calcaneal tubercle between December 2018 and February 2021 at our institute. All patients were required to conform to regular follow up postoperatively. X-ray film was applied to all cases. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Association (AOFAS) score, Cedell score and the visual analog scale (VAS) were used to evaluate functional results. RESULTS All patients achieved bone union. The preoperative AOFAS score was 26.34 ± 3.34, which was significantly different from 91.38 ± 6.15 half a year after operation (p = 0.003). The preoperative Cedell score was 31.05 ± 4.18 and the score half a year after operation was 92.17 ± 5.39(p = 0.011). The VAS score was 8.91 ± 1.51 before operation and decreased to 0.58 ± 1.31 half a year after operation (p = 0.014). CONCLUSIONS In the treatments of calcaneal tubercle fracture, U-shaped internal fixation is a new attempt. Through the short-term follow-up study, we found that its therapeutic effect is excellent, which is a recommended treatment in clinic.

Abstract
The signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) family members are not only the transcriptional activators, but also play important roles in regulating inflammatory response. Some members have been reported to be involved in innate bacterial and antiviral immunity in aquatic organisms. However, no systematic research on STATs has been found in teleost. In this present study, we characterized six STAT genes in Japanese flounder based on bioinformatics methods, namely PoSTAT1, PoSTAT2, PoSTAT3, PoSTAT4, PoSTAT5 and PoSTAT6. The phylogenetic analysis of STATs in fish indicated that STATs were highly conserved and revealed an absence of STAT5 in a few species. Further analysis of gene structures and motifs showed STAT proteins shared a similar structure and probably had similar functionality in Japanese flounder. The expression profiles of different development stages and tissues demonstrated that PoSTATs exhibited specificity in temporality and spatiality as well as PoSTAT4 was highly expressed in gill. The transcriptome data analysis of E. tarda and temperature stress showed that PoSTAT1 and PoSTAT2 were more respective to these two kinds of stress. In addition, the results also demonstrated that these PoSTATs might regulate immune response in different ways, manifested by up-regulation in E. tarda infection and down-regulation in temperature stress. In a word, this systematic analysis of PoSTATs would provide valuable information about the phylogenetic relationship of STATs in fish species and help understand the role of STAT genes in the immune response of Japanese flounder.

Abstract
Dissimilatory soil arsenic (As) reduction and release are driven by microbial extracellular electron transfer (EET), while reverse EET mediates soil methane (CH4) emission. Nevertheless, the detailed biogeochemical mechanisms underlying the tight links between soil As migration and methanogenesis are unclear. This study used a bioelectrochemical-based system (BES) to explore the potential effects of zero-valent iron (ZVI) addition on "As migration-CH4 emission" interactions from chemical and microbiological perspectives. Voltage and ZVI amendment experiments showed that dissolved As was efficiently immobilized with increased CH4 production in the soil BES, As release and CH4 production exhibited a high negative exponential correlation, and reductive As dissolution could be entirely inhibited in the methanogenic stage. Gene quantification and bacterial community analysis showed that in contrast to applied voltage, ZVI changed the spatial heterogeneity of the distribution of electroactive microorganisms in the BES, significantly decreasing the relative abundance of arrA and dissimilatory As/Fe-reducing bacteria (e.g., Geobacter) while increasing the abundance of aceticlastic methanogens (Methanosaeta), which then dominated CH4 production and As immobilization after ZVI incorporation. In addition to biogeochemical activities, coprecipitation with ferric (iron) contributed 77-93% dissolved As removal under ZVI addition. This study will enhance our knowledge of the processes and microorganisms controlling soil As migration and CH4 emission.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the association between periodontitis and osteoporosis among US adults as well as the subgroup of menopausal women. BACKGROUND Periodontitis and osteoporosis are both chronic inflammatory diseases characterized by local or systemic bone resorption. Since they share many risk factors, and the significant decrease in estrogen along with menopause is unfavorable for both diseases, it's reasonable to assume that there exists some links between the two diseases, especially during the menopause. METHODS We analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2009-2010 and 2013-2014. Periodontitis (defined according to the CDC/AAP definition) and osteoporosis (assessed by the dual-energy radiation absorptiometry) data were available for 5736 participants, and 519 subjects were enrolled in the subgroup of menopausal women aged 45-60 years old. We used binary logistic regression analysis to examine the association between the two diseases both in crude and fully adjusted model. RESULTS In the fully adjusted model, osteoporosis was significantly associated with an increased risk of periodontal disease (OR:1.66, 95% CI: 1.00-2.77) in the whole population. As to the subgroup of menopausal women, osteoporosis group had an adjusted OR of 9.66 (95% CI: 1.13-82.38) for developing severe periodontitis in the fully adjusted model. CONCLUSIONS Osteoporosis is significantly associated with periodontitis and the association is even more pronounced in menopausal women with severe periodontitis.

Abstract
In this paper, we describe a new naked amoeba species, Mayorella marianaensis sp. n., order Dermamoebida, isolated from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean (>3,000 m depth) in the vicinity of the Mariana Trench, based on morphological and molecular data. The newly discovered species was identified based on morphological and molecular data. This is the first time that a Mayorella species was discovered in the deep sea (>1,000 m). Mayorella marianaensis is an irregularly rectangular naked amoeba (30-120 × 11-60 µm), with a narrow frontal hyaline area. Four to 15 conical sub-pseudopodia, and three kinds of floating forms are identified. Trophozoites have a thick cell coat consisting of two distinct layers. The small subunit ribosomal RNA gene phylogeny showed that M. marianaensis is classified into Dermamoebida, and is a sister clade to other Mayorella species whose sequences are available. BLAST analysis revealed that M. marianaensis is most similar to Coronamoeba villafranca and Mayorella sp. JJP-2003, with sequence identities of 92.43% and 88.30%, respectively.

Abstract
Objectives: To examine the short-term and mid-term effects of surgical treatment of obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in one center. Methods: The perioperative data and short-term follow-up outcomes of 421 patients with obstructive HCM who received surgical treatment at Department of Cardiac Surgery, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University from January 2017 to December 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. There were 207 males and 214 females, aged (56.5±11.7) years (range: 19 to 78 years). Preoperative New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification included 45 cases of class Ⅱ, 328 cases in class Ⅲ, and 48 cases in class Ⅳ. Fifty-eight patients were diagnosed with latent obstructive HCM and 257 patients had moderate or more mitral regurgitation with 56 patients suffering from intrinsic mitral valve diseases. All procedures were completed by a multidisciplinary team, including professional echocardiologists involving in preoperative planning for proper mitral valve management strategies and intraoperative monitoring. A total of 338 patients underwent septal myectomy alone, and 59 patients underwent mitral valve surgery along with myectomy. A single transaortic approach was used in 355 patients, and a right atrial-atrial septal/atrial sulcus approach was used in 51 other patients. Long-handled minimally invasive surgical instruments were used for the procedures. Student t test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, χ2 test or Fisher exact test were used to compare the data before and after surgery. Results: The aortic cross-clamping time of septal myectomy alone was (34.3±8.5) minutes (range: 21 to 94 minutes). Eighteen patients had intraoperative adverse events and underwent immediate reoperation, including residual obstruction (10 patients), left ventricular free wall rupture (4 patients), ventricular septal perforation (3 patients), and aortic valve perforation (1 patient). Four patients died during hospitalization, and 11 patients developed complete atrioventricular block requiring permanent pacemaker implantation. After discharge, 384 (92.1%) patients received a follow-up visit with a median duration of 9 months. All follow-up patients survived with significantly improved NYHA classifications: 216 patients in class Ⅰ and 168 patients in class Ⅱ (χ2=662.73, P<0.01 as compared to baseline). At 6 months after surgery, follow-up echocardiography showed that the thickness of the ventricular septum ((13.6±2.5) mm vs. (18.2±3.0) mm, t=23.51, P<0.01) and the peak left ventricular outflow tract gradient ((12.0±6.3) mmHg vs. (93.4±19.8) mmHg, 1 mmHg=0.133 kPa, t=78.29, P<0.01) were both significantly lower than baseline values. Conclusion: The construction of the surgical team (including echocardiography experts), proper mitral valve management strategies, identification and management of sub-mitral-valve abnormalities, and application of long-handled minimally invasive surgical instruments are important for the successful implementation of septal myectomy with satisfactory short-and medium-term outcomes.

Abstract
Water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.), is one of the emerging invasive weeds for inland water bodies in Asia and become a major problem for local water ecosystem. Biocontrol of water lettuce by mycobiota is being considered as a promising and sustainable method (Kongjornrak et al. 2019). During July 2021, a leaf blight of water lettuce was observed within about 1.5 ha in Shenxi stream (N25°66', E119°05') in Putian, Fujian, China. The disease severity was about 100% with 80% incidence, early symptoms appeared as small irregularly yellow or brown blight, severely infected leaves turned to be rot, then death and sink. Small pieces (5 × 5 mm) of symptomatic leaves were excised and surface disinfected with 75% ethanol and 0.1% HgCl2 solution, air dried and plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA). 3~5 days after incubation at 28°C, six fungal pure cultures showing similar morphology were obtained from the infected leaves. On PDA, colonies were flat, aerial mycelium grew sparsely, most of it grew inside the agar medium, it reverses white to grey to black with age. Hyphae were branched, septate, smooth and hyaline. Conidiophores mostly reduced to conidiogenous cells and setae were not observed. Conidiogenous cells were monoblastic, discrete and solitary, at first hyaline, subspherical, then turning to pale brown, ampulliform, 4.5-10 × 3.5-6 μm in size. Conidia were solitary, globose or ellipsoidal, black, smooth, some of it formed directly from the mycelia, aseptate, 8-12 μm diam (n=10). Genomic DNA was extracted from one of the representative isolate Z1. ITS1/ITS4 (Mills et al. 1992), Bt-2a/Bt-2b (Glass and Donaldson 1995) and EF1-728F/EF-2 (O'Donnell et al. 1998) primer pairs were used to amplify the isolate's internal transcribed spacer (ITS), the Beta-tubulin fragment (TUB) and the partial translation elongation factor (TEF1), respectively. The isolate's sequences were deposited in the GenBank with accession numbers of OM279539 (ITS), OM296034 (TUB) and OM296035 (TEF1). Phylogenetic analysis using maximum likelihood based on the ITS-TUB-TEF1 concatenated sequences from Nigrospora species revealed that isolate Z1 is closely clustered with N. osmanthi strain LC4487. The fungus was identified as N. osmanthi based on the morphological characteristics and molecular analyses (Hao et al. 2020; Wang et al. 2017). Pathogenicity test were performed using twenty inoculated and control plants, respectively. Conidial suspensions (107 CFU/ml) of Z1 isolate were spray-inoculated on the leaves of healthy water lettuce seedlings, while sterile distilled water was used as control. Inoculated and control plants were kept in the differential 50-liter plastic tanks and maintained in a greenhouse at room temperature (19 to 24°C) for one month. Symptoms appeared 7 days post inoculation, which was similar to what occurs in the field. No symptoms occurred on controls. Pathogen was reisolated and confirmed by morphology and molecular analysis. Koch's postulates were conducted twice. N. osmanthi is a pathogenic fungus of many crop plants, such as buckwheat (Shen et al 2021), Java tea (Ismail et al. 2022) or buffalograss (Mei et al. 2019) in Asia and particularly in China. However, to our knowledge, this is the first report of N. osmanthi causing leaf blight on water lettuce. Further studies on how to apply formulated N. osmanthi will be required so that the strain could be effectively used to control water lettuce, moreover, its environmental safety also need a rigorous experimental evaluation.

BACKGROUND Vestimentifera (Polychaeta, Siboglinidae) is a taxon of deep-sea worm-like animals living in deep-sea hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, and organic falls. The morphology and lifespan of Ridgeia piscesae, which is the only vestimentiferan tubeworm species found in the hydrothermal vents on the Juan de Fuca Ridge, vary greatly according to endemic environment. Recent analyses have revealed the genomic basis of adaptation in three vent- and seep-dwelling vestimentiferan tubeworms. However, the evolutionary history and mechanism of adaptation in R. piscesae, a unique species in the family Siboglinidae, remain to be investigated. RESULT We assembled a draft genome of R. piscesae collected at the Cathedral vent of the Juan de Fuca Ridge. Comparative genomic analysis showed that vent-dwelling tubeworms with a higher growth rate had smaller genome sizes than seep-dwelling tubeworms that grew much slower. A strong positive correlation between repeat content and genome size but not intron size and the number of protein-coding genes was identified in these deep-sea tubeworm species. Evolutionary analysis revealed that Ridgeia pachyptila and R. piscesae, the two tubeworm species that are endemic to hydrothermal vents of the eastern Pacific, started to diverge between 28.5 and 35 million years ago. Four genes involved in cell proliferation were found to be subject to positive selection in the genome of R. piscesae. CONCLUSION Ridgeia pachyptila and R. piscesae started to diverge after the formation of the Gorda/Juan de Fuca/Explorer ridge systems and the East Pacific Rise. The high growth rates of vent-dwelling tubeworms might be derived from their small genome sizes. Cell proliferation is important for regulating the growth rate in R. piscesae.

Abstract
This study aimed to develop comprehensive nomograms for patients with head and neck non-Hodgkin lymphoma (H&NNHL) to determine their overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). In this study, 602 H&NNHL patients were analyzed from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. The R software was used to randomly divide the patients into the training cohort (n = 421) and the validation cohort (n = 181) in a 7-to-3 ratio. To develop nomograms for projecting OS and CSS, multivariable Cox regression was used to acquire independent predictive factors. We have constructed nomograms to predict the 3-, 5-, and 8-year OS and CSS probabilities of H&NNHL patients. The consistency index of the nomograms for OS (CSS) was 0.74 (0.778) and 0.734 (0.775), in the training and validation cohort respectively, and was higher than that of the Ann Arbor staging system. Calibration plotting showed that our models have good calibration ability. Moreover, assessments of the area under the time-dependent receiver operating characteristics curve, net reclassification improvement, integrated discrimination improvement and decision curve analysis demonstrated that our nomograms performed better and were more clinically useful than the Ann Arbor staging system. This is the first research to establish comprehensive nomograms for predicting OS and CSS in patients with H&NNHL at 3-, 5-, and 8-year. The validation of the models demonstrated good performance. It can provide clinicians with reference information for determining customized clinical treatment options and providing personalized prognoses. Indexes such as the concordance index, the area under the time-dependent receiver operating characteristics curve, calibration curves, the net reclassification improvement, the integrated discrimination improvement, and decision-curve analysis were used to compare new survival models to the classical Ann Arbor staging system.

Abstract
Sterile alpha and HEAT/Armadillo motif-containing protein (SARM) is conserved in evolution and negatively regulates TRIF-dependent Toll signaling in mammals. The SARM protein from Litopenaeus vannamei and its Drosophila orthologue Ectoderm-expressed (Ect4) are also involved in immune defense against pathogen infection. However, the functional mechanism of the protective effect remains unclear. In this study, we show that Ect4 is essential for the viral load in flies after a Drosophila C virus (DCV) infection. Viral load is increased in Ect4 mutants resulting in higher mortality rates than wild-type. Overexpression of Ect4 leads to a suppression of virus replication and thus improves the survival rate of the animals. Ect4 is required for the viral induction of STAT-responsive genes, TotA and TotM. Furthermore, Ect4 interacts with Stat92E, affecting the tyrosine phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of Stat92E in S2 cells. Altogether, our study identifies the adaptor protein Ect4 of the Toll pathway contributes to resistance to viral infection and regulates JAK/STAT signaling pathway.

Abstract
Reducing energy comsuption is crucial to commercialize electrochemical oxidation technologies. In this study, a novel PbO2 composite electrode (Ti-foam/PbO2-GN) was successfully fabricated based on a porous titanium (Ti) foam substrate and a β-PbO2 active layer embedded with multiple graphene (GN) interlayers, and applied as an anode for energy-efficient pulse electrochemical oxidation of ciprofloxacin (CIP). In contrast to PbO2 and Ti-foam/PbO2 electrodes, the Ti-foam/PbO2-GN electrode surface exhibited a more compact structure, smaller crystal grain size, and greater electrochemical active surface area. CIP removal of 89.7% was obtained with a low energy consumption (EE/O) of 6.17 kWh m-3 under pulse electrolysis conditions with a current density of 25.00 mA cm-2, pulse frequency of 5000 Hz, and pulse duty cycle of 50.0%. Up to 70.7% of the energy was saved in the pulse current mode compared to the direct current mode. Narrowing the electrode spacing to 2 cm facilitated the mass transfer process and enhanced oxidation efficiency. According to the intermediates identified, the pulse electrolysis of CIP primarily involved hydroxylation of the quinolone ring, breaking of the piperazine ring, defluorination, and decarboxylation processes, and a possible degradation mechanism of CIP was proposed. The continuous oxidation performance of CIP and the relatively low leaching of Pb2+ suggested that the Ti-foam/PbO2-GN electrode exhibited excellent stability, repeatability, and safety. The degradation results of CIP in real water also exhibits the great potential of environmental application. As a result, pulse electrochemical oxidation using a Ti-foam/PbO2-GN electrode has proven to be an energy-efficient and promising alternative for antibiotic wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Gliomas are a heterogeneous group of brain tumours with high malignancy, for which surgical resection remains the mainstay of treatment at present. However, the overall prognosis of gliomas remains poor because of their aggressiveness and high recurrence. Temozolomide (TMZ) has anti-proliferative and cytotoxic effects and is indicated for glioblastoma multiforme and recurrent mesenchymal astrocytoma. However, TMZ is disadvantaged by low efficacy and drug resistance, and therefore it is necessary to enhance the brain drug concentration of TMZ to improve its effectiveness and reduce the toxic and adverse effects from systemic administration. There have been many nano-formulations developed for the delivery of TMZ to gliomas that overcome the limitations of TMZ penetration to tumours and increase brain targeting. In this paper, we review the research progress of TMZ nano-formulations, and also discuss challenges and opportunities in the research and development of drug delivery systems, hoping that the data and information summarised herein could provide assistance for the clinical treatment of gliomas.

Abstract
Fontan-associated liver disease (FALD) is one of the main complications after the Fontan procedure, manifesting mostly as liver fibrosis and even cirrhosis, with a high incidence rate and a lack of typical clinical symptoms that seriously affect patient prognosis. The specific cause is unknown, although it is considered to be associated with long-term elevated central venous pressure, impaired hepatic artery blood flow, and other relevant factors. The absence of association between laboratory tests, imaging data, and the severity of liver fibrosis makes clinical diagnosis and monitoring difficult. A liver biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosing and staging liver fibrosis. The most important risk factor for FALD is time following the Fontan procedure; therefore, it is recommended to do a liver biopsy 10 years after the Fontan procedure and to be cautious for the presence of hepatocellular carcinoma. Combined heart-liver transplantation is a recommended choice with favorable outcomes for patients with Fontan circulatory failure and severe hepatic fibrosis.

Abstract
Cherax quadricarinatus iridovirus (CQIV), a new member of family Iridoviridae, mainly infects the shrimps and crayfish with a high mortality rate. Previous gel-based LC-MS/MS study on CQIV has identified 30 structural proteins. In this study, one of the structural proteins, CQIV-168L, was selected for further analysis. RT-PCR and Western-blotting (WB) detection revealed that the transcript and the protein appeared late during infection of C. quadricarinatus cells and that the transcript was blocked by viral DNA replication inhibitor, indicating that CQIV-168L is a late expression gene. The specific antiserum against CQIV-168L was raised and immunofluorescence analysis showed that CQIV-168L was localized in the cytoplasm and associated with virus factories. Western-blotting (WB) assay suggested that CQIV-168L antiserum bound specifically to a 57-kDa protein in both the intact virions and the envelope fraction. As revealed by immunogold labeling, CQIV-168L was a component of the viral envelope. Findings in this work help to further understand the structure and entry mechanism of CQIV.

Abstract
Nanomedicine offers considerable opportunities to improve drugability and reduce toxicity for tumour therapy. However, the application of nanomedicine has achieved little success in clinical trials due to multiple physiological barriers to drug delivery. Circulating cells are expected to improve the physical distribution of drugs and enhance the therapeutic effect by overcoming various biological barriers in collaboration with nano-drug delivery systems owing to excellent biocompatibility, low immunogenicity and a long-circulation time and strong binding specificity. Nonetheless, we have noticed some limitations in implementing tthe strategy. In this article, we intend to introduce the latest progress in research and application of circulating cell-mediated nano-drug delivery systems, describe the main cell-related drug delivery modes, sum up the relevant points of the transport systems in the process of loading, transport and release, and lastly discuss the advantages, challenges and future development trends in cell-mediated nano-drug delivery.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors of postoperative recurrence in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients with recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) invasion. Methods: The data of PTC patients with recurrent laryngeal nerve invasion treated in Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2006 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The acoustic parameters were compared between different subgroups. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the overall survival (OS) and the recurrence-free rate (RFS), and univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to determine the risk factors for postoperative recurrence. Results: A total of 150 PTC patients were enrolled in the final analysis, including 102 females and 48 males, with an average age of (53.5±13.7) years, and 62 patients (41.3%) aged over 55 years. There were 88 cases with stage Ⅰ, and 62 cases with stage Ⅲ. Fifty-five patients presented with preoperative vocal cord paralysis. There were 75 cases appearing adhesion between tumor or lymph node and recurrent laryngeal nerve while 75 cases presented with direct invasion. The comparisons of acoustic parameters showed that patients with RLN invasion had higher jitter compared with patients without RLN invasion [2.3% (1.4%, 3.2%) vs 1.8% (0.8%, 2.6%), P<0.001]. Moreover, patients with preoperative vocal cord paralysis (VCP) had higher jitter[3.1% (2.2%, 4.6%) vs 2.0% (1.1%, 2.8%), P<0.001] and shimmer [7.1% (4.9%, 9.9%) vs 5.5% (4.2%, 7.3%), P<0.001] and shorter maximum phonation time (MPT) [8.0 (6.0, 10.0) s vs 12.0 (10.0, 15.3) s, P<0.001] compared with patients without preoperative VCP. However, there was no statistical difference in acoustic parameters between cases with RLN adhesion and RLN invasion (all P>0.05). Postoperative follow-up time ranged between 12-196 months, with an average of (65.0±35.9) months. Sixteen patients (10.7%) had recurrence or metastasis, and 8 cases (5.3%) died of recurrence or metastasis. The 5-year OS rate was 95.1%, and the 10-year OS rate was 92.8%. The 5-year RFS rate was 88.9%, and the 10-year RFS rate was 86.2%. Univariate Cox analysis showed that age of onset ≥ 55 years, preoperative recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy, laryngeal, trachea or esophageal invasion were the risk factors for postoperative recurrence of PTC with RLN invasion (all P<0.05). Multivariate Cox analysis showed that age of onset ≥ 55 years (OR=1.060, 95%CI: 1.011-1.110, P=0.015) was an independent risk factor. Conclusions: Age of onset ≥ 55 years is an independent risk factor for postoperative recurrence in PTC patients with RLN invasion. Preoperative acoustic parameters may provide reference for evaluation of RLN function.

Abstract
Myostatin, also known as GDF8, is a member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily. In vertebrates, myostatin negatively regulates the growth of skeletal muscle. In invertebrates, it has been reported to be closely related to animal growth. However, knowledge concerning the molecular mechanisms involved in the myostatin regulation of molluscan growth is limited. In this study, we found that the hdh-myostatin open reading frame (ORF) comprised 1470 base pairs that encoded 489 amino acids and contained structural characteristics typical of the TGF-β superfamily, including a C-terminal signal peptide, a propeptide domain, and TGF-β region. Gene expression analysis revealed that hdh-myostatin mRNA was widely expressed at different levels in all of the examined tissues of Haliotis discus hannai. Nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were associated with the growth traits. RNA interference (RNAi) against hdh-myostatin mRNA significantly downregulated hdh-myostatin at days 1, 15, and 30 post injection, and the pattern was correlated with downregulation of the genes TGF-β receptor type-I (hdh-TβR I), activin receptor type-IIB (hdh-ActR IIB), and mothers against decapentaplegic 3 (hdh-Smad3). After one month of the RNAi experiment, the shell lengths and total weights increased in the abalone, Haliotis discus hannai. The results of qRT-PCR showed that the hdh-myostatin mRNA level was higher in the slow-growing group than in the fast-growing group. These results suggest that hdh-myostatin is involved in the regulation of growth, and that these SNPs would be informative for further studies on selective breeding in abalone.
