Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-invasive techniques such as central intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) and repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation (rPMS) have shown promise in improving motor function for patients with stroke. However, the combined efficacy of rPMS and central iTBS has not been extensively studied. This randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of rPMS and central iTBS in patients with stroke. METHOD In this study, 28 stroke patients were randomly allocated to receive either 1200 pulses of real or sham rPMS on the radial nerve of the affected limb, followed by 1200 pulses of central iTBS on the ipsilesional hemisphere. The patients received the intervention for 10 sessions over two weeks. The primary outcome measures were the Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) and the Action Research Arm Test (ARAT). Secondary outcomes for activities and participation included the Functional Independence Measure-Selfcare (FIM-Selfcare) and the Stroke Impact Scale (SIS). The outcome measures were assessed before and after the intervention. RESULTS Both groups showed significant improvement in FMA-UE and FIM-Selfcare after the intervention (p < 0.05). Only the rPMS + iTBS group had significant improvement in ARAT-Grasp and SIS-Strength and activity of daily living (p < 0.05). However, the change scores in all outcome measures did not differ between two groups. CONCLUSIONS Overall, the study's findings suggest that rPMS may have a synergistic effect on central iTBS to improve grasp function and participation. In conclusion, these findings highlight the potential of rPMS as an adjuvant therapy for central iTBS in stroke rehabilitation. Further large-scale studies are needed to fully explore the synergistic effects of rPMS on central iTBS. TRIAL REGISTRATION This trial was registered under ClinicalTrials.gov ID No.NCT04265365, retrospectively registered, on February 11, 2020.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the clinimetric properties of the Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (SSEQ) and estimate the minimal detectable change (MDC) and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) from the database of our randomized controlled trials (RCT) of individuals receiving stroke rehabilitation. METHODS We retrieved the pre- and post-intervention scores of the SSEQ and Stroke Impact Scale (SIS) from 80 stroke survivors. The analysis of clinimetric properties was performed using: (1) confirmatory factor analysis and item response theory modeling (IRT) for construct validity; (2) standardized response mean and Glass's delta for responsiveness; (3) MDC based on the standard deviation (SD) or standard error of measurement (SEM) of the SSEQ change scores; (4) MCID determined by the external anchor-SIS; (5) conditional MDC (cMDC) derived from the IRT analysis. RESULTS There was a bi-factorial construct with excellent model-data fit and marked responsiveness. The MDC determined by the SD and SEM were 1.5 and 3.0, respectively, and the MCIDs were 3.3 and 3.7. CONCLUSIONS This study confirmed that SSEQ is a valid and reliable assessment tool for patients receiving stroke rehabilitation. We also provided practical threshold values, especially demonstrating the benefit of using individualized cMDC, to help clinicians better interpret the change in the SSEQ scores.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Child developmental rate holds predictive value for early-stage developmental trajectories, yet few studies explored how sleep problems during different infancy stages impact this rate. This study aims to investigate the correlation between sleep problems and child developmental trajectories. METHODS This study utilized a prospective national cohort of 5006 children in Taiwan. The developmental inventories covering motor, cognitive, language, and socioemotional domains were collected through questionnaire-based in-person home interviews conducted at 3, 12, 24, and 36 months. Sleep problems data, encompassing bedtime regularity, sleep duration, and sleep quality, were collected at 3 and 12 months. Child developmental rate was assessed by analyzing the slope of developmental ability estimates over a period of time. RESULTS Bedtime regularity and high-quality sleep at 3 and 12 months were found to be significantly associated with intercepts across all domains (estimate = -0.196∼0.233, p < 0.033). Children with high-quality sleep at 3 months showed enhanced developmental slopes in socioemotional domains (estimate = 0.032, p < 0.001). Atypical sleep duration at 3 and 12 months had differential detrimental association with child development in various domains (estimate = -0.108∼-0.016, p < 0.048). CONCLUSION The relationship between sleep problems and child development exhibited variability based on the timing of exposure to these issues. Early exposure to low-quality sleep was significantly related to developmental functions and socioemotional developmental rate, potentially leading to increased developmental disparities as children age. Inadequate sleep duration in late infancy and excessive sleep duration in early infancy were both negatively associated with child development trajectories. Policymakers can use these findings to design targeted sleep programs for optimal child development.

Abstract
This study examined the relative and absolute reliability of the Taiwanese version of the MoCA (MoCA-T) in people with stroke. The study recruited 114 individuals who were at least 3 months after the onset of a first-ever unilateral stroke. The MoCA-T was administered twice, at a 6-week interval, to all participants. The relative reliability was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and the absolute reliability was assessed using standard error of measurement (SEM), the smallest real difference (SRD), the SRD percentage, and the Bland-Altman method. The ICC analysis showed the MoCA-T was highly reliable (ICC = 0.85). The absolute reliability was between an acceptable and excellent level, where the SEM and the SRD at the 95% confidence interval were 1.38 and 3.83, respectively. The Bland-Altman analyses showed no systematic bias between repeated measurements. The range of the 95% limits of agreement was narrow, indicating a high level of stability over time. These findings suggest that the MoCA-T has high agreement between repeated measurements without systematic bias. The threshold to detect real change stands between an acceptable and excellent level. The MoCA-T is a reliable tool for cognitive screening in stroke rehabilitation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the effects of bilateral robotic priming combined with mirror therapy (R-mirr) versus bilateral robotic priming combined with bilateral arm training (R-bilat), relative to the control approach of bilateral robotic priming combined with movement-oriented training (R-mov) in patients with stroke. DESIGN A single-blind, preliminary, randomized controlled trial. SETTING Four outpatient rehabilitation settings. PARTICIPANTS Outpatients with stroke and mild to moderate motor impairment (N = 63). INTERVENTIONS Patients received 6 weeks of clinic-based R-mirr, R-bilat, or R-mov for 90 minutes/day, 3 days/week, plus a transfer package at home for 5 days/week. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Fugl-Meyer Assessment upper extremity subscale (FMA-UE), ABILHAND, and Stroke Impact Scale (SIS) version 3.0 scores before, immediately after, and 3 months after treatment as well as the lateral pinch strength and the accelerometry before and immediately after treatment. RESULTS The posttest results favored R-mirr over R-bilat and R-mov on the FMA-UE score (P<.05). Follow-up analysis revealed that significant improvement in FMA-UE score was retained at the 3-month follow-up in the R-mirr over R-bilat or R-mov (P<.05). Significant improvements were not observed in the R-mirr over R-bilat and R-mov on other outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Between-groups differences were only detected for the primary outcome - FMA-UE. That was R-mirr was more effective at enhancing upper-limb motor improvement, and the effect has the potential to be maintained at 3 months of follow-up.

Abstract
Many stroke survivors demonstrate arm nonuse despite good arm motor function. This retrospective secondary analysis aims to identify predictors of arm nonusers with good arm motor function after stroke rehabilitation. A total of 78 participants were categorized into 2 groups using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment Upper Extremity Scale (FMA-UE) and the Motor Activity Log Amount of Use (MAL-AOU). Group 1 comprised participants with good motor function (FMA-UE ≥ 31) and low daily upper limb use (MAL-AOU ≤ 2.5), and group 2 comprised all other participants. Feature selection analysis was performed on 20 potential predictors to identify the 5 most important predictors for group membership. Predictive models were built with the five most important predictors using four algorithms. The most important predictors were preintervention scores on the FMA-UE, MAL-Quality of Movement, Wolf Motor Function Test-Quality, MAL-AOU, and Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire. Predictive models classified the participants with accuracies ranging from 0.75 to 0.94 and areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve ranging from 0.77 to 0.97. The result indicates that measures of arm motor function, arm use in activities of daily living, and self-efficacy could predict postintervention arm nonuse despite good arm motor function in stroke. These assessments should be prioritized in the evaluation process to facilitate the design of individualized stroke rehabilitation programs to reduce arm nonuse.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective of the study was to determine predictors for upper-limb functional recovery trajectory after occupational therapy in a population with chronic stroke. METHODS In this retrospective secondary analysis, Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) scores before and after intervention and at the 3-month follow-up were used to divide 105 participants with chronic stroke into three groups of recovery trajectories: fast (participants who reached an improvement of 7 after intervention), extended (those who reached an improvement of 7 at follow-up), and limited (those who did not reach an improvement of 7) recovery. Comparisons among the three groups were made in demographics, stroke characteristics, and baseline assessment scores. Logistic regression analyses were performed to determine predictors for group membership. RESULTS Time after onset of stroke and the baseline scores of FMA-UE, Stroke Impact Scale-Hand (SIS-Hand), Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT)-Quality, WMFT-Time scores, Motor Activity Log-Amount of Use (MAL-AOU), and Motor Activity Log-Quality of Movement (MAL-QOM) scores were significantly different among the three groups. Univariate logistic regressions confirmed that SIS-Hand, WMFT-Quality, WMFT-Time, MAL-AOU, and MAL-QOM were significant predictors for both the fast versus limited recovery group membership and the extended versus limited group membership. Time after stroke onset and baseline FMA-UE were additional predictors for the fast versus limited recovery group membership. CONCLUSION These findings may assist healthcare professionals in making optimal therapeutic decisions and in informing clients and caregivers about the outcomes of stroke recovery.

Abstract
The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of a 3-month coaching-based teleoccupational guidance (CTG) programme for home-based stroke survivors and their family caregivers. An assessor-blind pilot randomised controlled study was conducted. Twenty-five participant dyads (each dyad consisted of one home-based stroke patient and their caregivers) were randomised to a control group (RTG, n = 12) or an experimental group (CTG, n = 13). Participant dyads in the RTG group received routine teleoccupational guidance. Participant dyads in the CTG group received a six-step procedure: coaching-based teleoccupational guidance over 3 months via WeChat. Participant dyad compliance, the difficulty and suitability of outcome measures, and adverse effects were used to assess feasibility. The Reintegration to Normal Living Index, the Lawton Instructive Activities of Daily Life (Lawton IADL) scale, the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, the Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity scale, the 6 min walking test, and the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale were used to assess effectiveness outcomes of home-based stroke survivors; the Caregiver Benefit Finding Scale and the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview were used to assess the effectiveness outcomes of family caregivers. Feasibility measures were assessed at the end of the pilot trial, and effectiveness measures were evaluated pre-intervention and post-intervention (after 3 months). The CTG programme significantly improved home-based stroke survivors' participation in daily life, IADL score, and intrinsic motivation, and increased caregivers' perceived benefit, and tended (not significantly) to reduce care burden. CTG has the potential to promote better integration of home-based stroke patients into their families and society, improve their quality of life and family well-being, and provide a reference for home rehabilitation of other clinical chronic diseases. CTG is a safe, effective, and promising intervention for home-based stroke populations and their caregivers and warrants further investigation in a larger randomised controlled trial.

Abstract
(1) Objectives: Mindfulness-based interventions have been receiving more attention in research for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize the findings of randomized controlled trials of mindfulness-based interventions for children with ADHD. (2) Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published in PsycINFO, PubMed, and Google Scholar was completed from the earliest available date until August 2022. (3) Results: The systematic review included 12 studies that met the inclusion criteria, and the meta-analysis included 11 studies. The overall effect sizes were g = 0.77 for ADHD symptoms, g = 0.03 for externalizing behavior problem, g = 0.13 for internalizing behavior problem, g = 0.43 for mindfulness, and g = 0.40 for parental stress for children with ADHD. (4) Conclusion: The results of this systematic review highlight the possible benefits of mindfulness-based interventions for children with ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Combining robotic therapy (RT) with task-oriented therapy is an emerging strategy to facilitate motor relearning in stroke rehabilitation. This study protocol will compare novel rehabilitation regimens that use bilateral RT as a priming technique to augment two task-oriented therapies: mirror therapy (MT) and bilateral arm training (BAT) with a control intervention: RT combined with impairment-oriented training (IOT). METHODS This single-blind, randomized, comparative efficacy study will involve 96 participants with chronic stroke. Participants will be randomized into bilateral RT+MT, bilateral RT+BAT, and bilateral RT+IOT groups and receive 18 intervention sessions (90 min/day, 3 d/week for 6 weeks). The outcomes will include the Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Stroke Impact Scale version 3.0, Medical Research Council scale, Revised Nottingham Sensory Assessment, ABILHAND Questionnaire, and accelerometer and will be assessed at baseline, after treatment, and at the 3-month follow-up. Analysis of covariance and the chi-square automatic interaction detector method will be used to examine the comparative efficacy and predictors of outcome, respectively, after bilateral RT+MT, bilateral RT+BAT, and bilateral RT+IOT. DISCUSSION The findings are expected to contribute to the research and development of robotic devices, to update the evidence-based protocols in postacute stroke care programs, and to investigate the use of accelerometers for monitoring activity level in real-life situations, which may in turn promote home-based practice by the patients and their caregivers. Directions for further studies and empirical implications for clinical practice will be further discussed in upper-extremity rehabilitation after stroke. Abstract
In the study of biological networks, one of the major challenges is to understand the relationships between network structure and dynamics. In this paper, we model in vitro cortical neuronal cultures as stochastic dynamical systems and apply a method that reconstructs directed networks from dynamics [Ching and Tam, Phys. Rev. E 95, 010301(R) (2017)2470-004510.1103/PhysRevE.95.010301] to reveal directed effective connectivity, namely, the directed links and synaptic weights, of the neuronal cultures from voltage measurements recorded by a multielectrode array. The effective connectivity so obtained reproduces several features of cortical regions in rats and monkeys and has similar network properties as the synaptic network of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, whose entire nervous system has been mapped out. The distribution of the incoming degree is bimodal and the distributions of the average incoming and outgoing synaptic strength are non-Gaussian with long tails. The effective connectivity captures different information from the commonly studied functional connectivity, estimated using statistical correlation between spiking activities. The average synaptic strengths of excitatory incoming and outgoing links are found to increase with the spiking activity in the estimated effective connectivity but not in the functional connectivity estimated using the same sets of voltage measurements. These results thus demonstrate that the reconstructed effective connectivity can capture the general properties of synaptic connections and better reveal relationships between network structure and dynamics.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Patients with schizophrenia have deficits in physical and cognitive function that may become salient in their middle ages. These deficits need active intervention to prevent functional decline. Baduanjin and brisk walking show promise as interventions in patients with schizophrenia. This study investigated the effects of Baduanjin exercise vs. brisk walking in middle-aged patients with schizophrenia. METHODS In this single-blind, 2-arm, parallel, randomized controlled trial, 48 participants aged older than 40 years were enrolled and assigned to the intervention group (Baduanjin) or the control group (brisk walking). The training of both groups took place twice a week, 60 min per session, for 12 weeks. The participants were evaluated with physical, cognitive, and functional outcomes at baseline, postintervention, and 4 weeks after the intervention. RESULTS The results of the study demonstrated significant time effects in walking distance (p = 0.035, η2 = 0.094) and lower extremity strength (p = 0.006, η2 = 0.152). Post-hoc analysis revealed both groups had significant improvement in changes from baseline to the postintervention assessment (ps < 0.05) and follow-up (ps < 0.05). The results demonstrated a significant group-by-time interaction in change scores of global cognition (F = 7.01, p = 0.011, η2 = 0.133). Post-hoc analysis revealed a significant improvement in the Baduanjin group from baseline to postintervention (p = 0.021), but the improvements were not maintained at the follow-up assessment (p = 0.070). The results also demonstrated significant group effects in balance function (p < 0.001, η2 = 0.283), motor dual-task performance (p = 0.026, η2 = 0.103), and cognitive dual-task performance (p < 0.001, η2 = 0.307). Post-hoc analysis revealed that the Baduanjin group improved more than the brisk walking group in the above outcomes (ps < 0.05). CONCLUSION This study demonstrated the differential effects of Baduanjin exercise and brisk walking in middle-aged patients with schizophrenia. Baduanjin might be a beneficial regimen for improving physical and cognitive function in this population. Further research with a larger sample is warranted. Background The sequence of establishing a proximal stability or function before facilitation of the distal body part has long been recognized in stroke rehabilitation practice but lacks scientific evidence. This study plans to examine the effects of proximal priority robotic priming and impairment-oriented training (PRI) and distal priority robotic priming and impairment-oriented training (DRI). Methods This single-blind, randomized, comparative efficacy study will involve 40 participants with chronic stroke. Participants will be randomized into the PRI or DRI groups and receive 18 intervention sessions (90 min/day, 3 days/weeks for 6 weeks). The Fugl-Meyer Assessment Upper Extremity subscale, Medical Research Council Scale, Revised Nottingham Sensory Assessment, and Wolf Motor Function Test will be administered at baseline, after treatment, and at the 3-month follow-up. Two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance and the chi-square automatic interaction detector method will be used to examine the comparative efficacy and predictors of outcome, respectively, after PRI and DRI. Discussion Through manipulating the sequence of applying wrist and forearm robots in therapy, this study will attempt to examine empirically the priming effect of proximal or distal priority robotic therapy in upper extremity impairment-oriented training for people with stroke. The findings will provide directions for further studies and empirical implications for clinical practice in upper extremity rehabilitation after stroke. Abstract
The rate coefficients for OH + CH3OH and OH + CH3OH (+ X) (X = NH3, H2O) reactions were calculated using microcanonical, and canonical variational transition state theory (CVT) between 200 and 400 K based on potential energy surface constructed using CCSD(T)//M06-2X/6-311++G(3df,3pd). The results show that OH + CH3OH is dominated by the hydrogen atoms abstraction from CH3 position in both free and ammonia/water catalyzed ones. This result is in consistent with previous experimental and theoretical studies. The calculated rate coefficient for the OH + CH3OH (8.8 × 10-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1), for OH + CH3OH (+ NH3) [1.9 × 10-21 cm3 molecule-1 s-1] and for OH + CH3OH (+ H2O) [8.1 × 10-16 cm3 molecule-1 s-1] at 300 K. The rate coefficient is at least 8 order magnitude [for OH + CH3OH(+ NH3) reaction] and 3 orders magnitude [OH + CH3OH (+ H2O)] are smaller than free OH + CH3OH reaction. Our calculations predict that the catalytic effect of single ammonia and water molecule on OH + CH3OH reaction has no effect under tropospheric conditions because the dominated ammonia and water-assisted reaction depends on ammonia and water concentration, respectively. As a result, the total effective reaction rate coefficients are smaller. The current study provides a comprehensive example of how basic and neutral catalysts effect the most important atmospheric prototype alcohol reactions.

Abstract
Background Joint contractures, which affect activity, participation, and quality of life, are common complications of neurological conditions among elderly residents in long-term care facilities. This study examined the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the PaArticular Scales in a population with joint contractures. Methods A cross-sectional study design was used. The sample included elderly residents older than 64 years with joint contractures in an important joint who had lived at one of 12 long-term care facilities in Taiwan for more than 6 months (N = 243). The Chinese version of the PaArticular Scales for joint contractures was generated from the English version through five stages: translation, review, back-translation, review by a panel of specialists, and a pretest. Test-retest reliability, internal consistency reliability, construct validity, and criterion validity were evaluated, and the results were compared with those for the World Health Organization Quality of Life scale and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule. Results The Chinese version of the PaArticular Scales had excellent reliability, with a Cronbach α coefficient of 0.975 (mean score, 28.98; standard deviation, 17.34). An exploratory factor analysis showed three factors and one factor with an eigenvalue > 1 that explained 75.176 and 62.83 % of the total variance in the Activity subscale and Participation subscale, respectively. The subscale-to-total scale correlation analysis showed Pearson correlation coefficients of 0.881 for the Activity subscale and 0.843 for the Participation subscale. Pearson’s product-moment correlation revealed that the correlation coefficient (r) between the Chinese version of the PaArticular Scales and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule was 0.770, whereas that for the World Health Organization Quality of Life scale was − 0.553; these values were interpreted as large coefficients. Conclusions The underlying theoretical model of the Chinese version of the PaArticular Scales functions well in Taiwan and has acceptable levels of reliability and validity. However, the Chinese version must be further tested for applicability and generalizability in future studies, preferably with a larger sample and in different clinical domains. Abstract
Background Virtual reality and arm cycling have been reported as effective treatments for improving upper limb motor recovery in patients with stroke. Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) can increase ipsilesional cortical excitability, and has been increasingly used in patients with stroke. However, few studies examined the augmented effect of iTBS on neurorehabilitation program. In this study, we investigated the augmented effect of iTBS on virtual reality-based cycling training (VCT) for upper limb function in patients with stroke. Methods In this randomized controlled trial, 23 patients with stroke were recruited. Each patient received either 15 sessions of iTBS or sham stimulation in addition to VCT on the same day. Outcome measures were assessed before and after the intervention. Primary outcome measures for the improvement of upper limb motor function and spasticity were Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) and Modified Ashworth Scale Upper-Extremity (MAS-UE). Secondary outcome measures for activity and participation were Action Research Arm Test (ARAT), Nine Hole Peg Test (NHPT), Box and Block Test (BBT) and Motor Activity Log (MAL), and Stroke Impact Scale (SIS). Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were performed to evaluate the effectiveness after the intervention and Mann–Whitney U tests were conducted to compare the therapeutic effects between two groups. Results At post-treatment, both groups showed significant improvement in FMA-UE and ARAT, while only the iTBS + VCT group demonstrated significant improvement in MAS-UE, BBT, NHPT, MAL and SIS. The Mann–Whitney U tests revealed that the iTBS + VCT group has presented greater improvement than the sham group significantly in MAS-UE, MAL-AOU and SIS. However, there were no significant differences in the changes of the FMA-UE, ARAT, BBT, NHPT and MAL-QOM between groups. Conclusions Intermittent TBS showed augmented efficacy on VCT for reducing spasticity, increasing actual use of the affected upper limb, and improving participation in daily life in stroke patients. This study provided an integrated innovative intervention, which may be a promising therapy to improve upper limb function recovery in stroke rehabilitation. However, this study has a small sample size, and thus a further larger-scale study is warranted to confirm the treatment efficacy. Abstract
Background The timing of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with neurorehabilitation interventions may affect its modulatory effects. Motor function has been reported to be modulated by the timing of tDCS; however, whether the timing of tDCS would also affect restoration of daily function and upper extremity motor control with neurorehabilitation in stroke patients remains largely unexplored. Mirror therapy (MT) is a potentially effective neurorehabilitation approach for improving paretic arm function in stroke patients. This study aimed to determine whether the timing of tDCS with MT would influence treatment effects on daily function, motor function and motor control in individuals with chronic stroke. Methods This study was a double-blinded randomized controlled trial. Twenty-eight individuals with chronic stroke received one of the following three interventions: (1) sequentially combined tDCS with MT (SEQ), (2) concurrently combined tDCS with MT (CON), and (3) sham tDCS with MT (SHAM). Participants received interventions for 90 min/day, 5 days/week for 4 weeks. Daily function was assessed using the Nottingham Extended Activities of Daily Living Scale. Upper extremity motor function was assessed using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale. Upper extremity motor control was evaluated using movement kinematic assessments. Results There were significant differences in daily function between the three groups. The SEQ group had greater improvement in daily function than the CON and SHAM groups. Kinematic analyses showed that movement time of the paretic hand significantly reduced in the SEQ group after interventions. All three groups had significant improvement in motor function from pre-intervention to post-intervention. Conclusion The timing of tDCS with MT may influence restoration of daily function and movement efficiency of the paretic hand in chronic stroke patients. Sequentially applying tDCS prior to MT seems to be advantageous for enhancing daily function and hand movement control, and may be considered as a potentially useful strategy in future clinical application. Abstract
Background: The proportion of frailty in older adults is increasing in many countries. Demand for institutional long-term care followed by an increasing globally. Aims: The effects of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) interventions on frail older adults in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) of randomized controlled trials. Design: A literature searches of the published articles indexed in CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ProQuest, and Google Scholar between 2000 and 2017 was conducted. Methods: The inclusion criteria were divided into four sections: (1) design: randomized controlled trials; (2) sample population: LTCF adults aged 60 years or over with frailty; (3) intervention: LTPA; and (4) body composition: physical, functional or neuropsychological tests as either the primary or the secondary outcomes. Results: Three main themes were identified (the particular monitor, intervention duration and outcome measurement dimensions). Impact statement and conclusions: LTPA interventions effectively improved the physical performance and body composition of frail older adults in LTCFs. Nevertheless, an optimal combination of intensity, duration and frequency is crucial.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of unilateral hybrid therapy (UHT) and bilateral hybrid therapy (BHT) compared with robot-assisted therapy (RT) alone in patients with chronic stroke. DESIGN A single-blind, randomized controlled trial. SETTING Four hospitals. PARTICIPANTS Outpatients with chronic stroke and mild to moderate motor impairment (N=44). INTERVENTION UHT combined unilateral RT (URT) and modified constraint-induced therapy. BHT combined bilateral RT (BRT) and bilateral arm training. The RT group received URT and BRT. The intervention frequency for the 3 groups was 90 min/d 3 d/wk for 6 weeks. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA, divided into the proximal and distal subscale) and Stroke Impact Scale (SIS) version 3.0 scores before, immediately after, and 3 months after treatment and Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT) and Nottingham Extended Activities of Daily Living (NEADL) scale scores before and immediately after treatment. RESULTS The results favored BHT over UHT on the FMA total score and distal score at the posttest (P=.03 and .04) and follow-up (P=.01 and .047) assessment and BHT over RT on the follow-up FMA distal scores (P=.03). At the posttest assessment, the WMFT and SIS scores of the 3 groups improved significantly without between-group differences, and the RT group showed significantly greater improvement in the mobility domain of NEADL compared with the BHT group (P<.01). CONCLUSIONS BHT was more effective for improving upper extremity motor function, particularly distal motor function at follow-up, and individuals in the RT group demonstrated improved functional ambulation post intervention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We investigated the effects on motor and daily function of robot-assisted therapies in people with chronic stroke using the Bi-Manu-Track (BMT) and InMotion 3.0 (IMT) compared with control treatment (CT). METHOD In this comparative efficacy trial, 30 participants were randomized to receive BMT, IMT, or CT. Outcome measures included the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), Motor Activity Log (MAL), and Medical Research Council (MRC) scale. RESULTS The IMT group improved more in FMA and proximal MAS scores than the BMT group (both ps < .01) and the CT group (p < .01 and p = .03, respectively). The IMT and BMT groups showed clinically relevant improvements after treatment on the MRC rather than the MAL. CONCLUSION The results indicate that the IMT might improve motor function. The IMT and BMT groups showed similar benefits for muscle power but limited improvements in self-perceived use of the affected arm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) is a form of repetitive transcranial stimulation that has been used to enhance upper limb (UL) motor recovery. However, only limited studies have examined its efficacy in patients with chronic stroke and therefore it remains controversial. METHODS This was a randomized controlled trial that enrolled patients from a rehabilitation department. Twenty-two patients with first-ever chronic and unilateral cerebral stroke, aged 30-70 years, were randomly assigned to the iTBS or control group. All patients received 1 session per day for 10 days of either iTBS or sham stimulation over the ipsilesional primary motor cortex in addition to conventional neurorehabilitation. Outcome measures were assessed before and immediately after the intervention period: Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), Fugl-Meyer Assessment Upper Extremity (FMA-UE), Action Research Arm Test (ARAT), Box and Block test (BBT), and Motor Activity Log (MAL). Analysis of covariance was adopted to compare the treatment effects between groups. RESULTS The iTBS group had greater improvement in the MAS and FMA than the control group (η2 = 0.151-0.233; p < 0.05), as well as in the ARAT and BBT (η2 = 0.161-0.460; p < 0.05) with large effect size. Both groups showed an improvement in the BBT, and there were no significant between-group differences in MAL changes. CONCLUSIONS The iTBS induced greater gains in spasticity decrease and UL function improvement, especially in fine motor function, than sham TBS. This is a promising finding because patients with chronic stroke have a relatively low potential for fine motor function recovery. Overall, iTBS may be a beneficial adjunct therapy to neurorehabilitation for enhancing UL function. Further larger-scale study is warranted to confirm the findings and its long-term effect. Abstract
BACKGROUND Spasticity is a major problem in patients with stroke and influences their activities of daily living, participation, and quality of life. The Modified Ashworth Scale is widely used to assess spasticity. However, the responsiveness and minimal clinically important differences of the Modified Ashworth Scale in patients with stroke have not been explored. AIM This study aims to examine the responsiveness and minimal clinically important differences of the Modified Ashworth Scale in patients with stroke. DESIGN Longitudinal six-month follow-up study. SETTING Rehabilitation wards of a tertiary hospital. POPULATION One-hundred and fifteen patients with stroke were recruited. METHODS All patients underwent the assessment of Modified Ashworth Scale for the upper extremity (flexors of the elbow, wrist, and fingers) and the lower extremity (hip adductor, knee flexor, and ankle plantar flexor) at baseline and 6-month follow-up. The average Modified Ashworth Scale scores of the upper and lower extremity muscles were obtained for analysis. Responsiveness of the Modified Ashworth Scale was determined using standardized mean response, and the minimal clinically important differences were determined using a distribution-based approach with Effect Sizes of 0.5 and 0.8 standard deviations. RESULTS The responsiveness of the Modified Ashworth Scale in the upper and lower extremity muscles was marked (standardized response mean = 0.89-1.09). The minimal clinically important differences of the average Modified Ashworth Scale of Effect Sizes 0.5 and 0.8 standard deviations for the upper extremity muscles were 0.48 and 0.76, respectively, while those for the lower extremity muscles were 0.45 and 0.73, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The Modified Ashworth Scale was markedly responsive in detecting the changes in muscle tone in patients with stroke. The minimal clinically important differences of the Modified Ashworth Scale reported in this study can be used by researchers and clinicians in determining whether the observed changes are clinically meaningful post-treatment or at follow-up. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT The minimal clinically important differences of the Modified Ashworth Scale reported in this study will enable clinicians and researchers in determining whether changes in the muscle tone are true and clinically meaningful, and can be used as a reference for clinical decision-making.

Abstract
This study examined the treatment effects between unilateral hybrid therapy (UHT; unilateral robot-assisted therapy [RT] + modified constraint-induced movement therapy) and bilateral hybrid therapy (BHT; bilateral RT + bilateral arm training) compared with RT. Thirty patients with chronic stroke were randomized to UHT, BHT, or RT groups. Preliminary efficacy was assessed using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), the Chedoke Arm and Hand Activity Inventory (CAHAI), and the goal attainment scaling (GAS). Possible adverse effects of abnormal muscle tone, pain, and fatigue were recorded. All groups showed large improvements in motor recovery and individual goals. Significant between-group differences were found on GAS favoring the hybrid groups but not on FMA and CAHAI. No adverse effects were reported. Hybrid therapies are safe and applicable interventions for chronic stroke and favorable for improving individual functional goals. Treatment effects on motor recovery and functional activity might be similar among the three groups.

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify determinants within the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health as a conceptual framework regarding the quality of life of older long-term care facility residents.Methods: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional design was conducted. All participants (n = 210) completed a questionnaire that included the Sheltered Care Environmental Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Short Physical Performance Battery, the Mini-Mental State Examination, the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale. The outcome was assessed using mixed-design multiple regression with a covariance model and hierarchical regression.Results: Personal factors, environmental factors, body function and structures, and activity and participation explained 35.9%, 18.5%, 25.2%, and 52.1% of the variability in quality of life, respectively. The hierarchical model included 10 variables and explained 84.3% of the total variability in quality of life.Conclusions: Activity and participation showed high explanatory power for the quality of life of older long-term care facility residents. The influence of activity and participation in the older population is an important issue, although these factors remain relatively unexplored. This exploratory study used the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health as a conceptual framework to provide a more sophisticated understanding of quality of life.Implications for rehabilitationAlthough the viewpoint of quality of life involves many more factors than an understanding of an individual disease or disability condition, activity and participation were found to be the most important factors.Simple clinical measures, such as activity limitations and participation restrictions, can be used as clinical markers of quality of life, thus enabling rehabilitation professionals to determine the quality of life of older people in institutions.The conceptual framework of determinants of quality of life that this study reports may be helpful for rehabilitation professionals to explore with patients to implement interventions.

Abstract
This study examined the treatment efficacy of proximal-emphasized robotic rehabilitation by using the InMotion ARM (P-IMT) versus distal-emphasized robotic rehabilitation by using the InMotion WRIST (D-IMT) in patients with stroke. A total of 40 patients with stroke completed the study. They received P-IMT, D-IMT, or control treatment (CT) for 20 training sessions. Primary outcomes were the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) and Medical Research Council (MRC) scale. Secondary outcomes were the Motor Activity Log (MAL) and wrist-worn accelerometers. The differences on the distal FMA, total MRC, distal MRC, and MAL quality of movement scores among the 3 groups were statistically significant (P = 0.02 to 0.05). Post hoc comparisons revealed that the D-IMT group significantly improved more than the P-IMT group on the total MRC and distal MRC. Furthermore, the distal FMA and distal MRC improved more in the D-IMT group than in the CT group. Our findings suggest that distal upper-limb robotic rehabilitation using the InMotion WRIST system had superior effects on distal muscle strength. Further research based on a larger sample is needed to confirm long-term treatment effects of proximal versus distal upper-limb robotic rehabilitation.

Abstract
Background Loss of upper-extremity motor function is one of the most debilitating deficits following stroke. Two promising treatment approaches, action observation therapy (AOT) and mirror therapy (MT), aim to enhance motor learning and promote neural reorganization in patients through different afferent inputs and patterns of visual feedback. Both approaches involve different patterns of motor observation, imitation, and execution but share some similar neural bases of the mirror neuron system. AOT and MT used in stroke rehabilitation may confer differential benefits and neural activities that remain to be determined. This clinical trial aims to investigate and compare treatment effects and neural activity changes of AOT and MT with those of the control intervention in patients with subacute stroke. Methods/design An estimated total of 90 patients with subacute stroke will be recruited for this study. All participants will be randomly assigned to receive AOT, MT, or control intervention for a 3-week training period (15 sessions). Outcome measurements will be taken at baseline, immediately after treatment, and at the 3-month follow-up. For the magnetoencephalography (MEG) study, we anticipate that we will recruit 12 to 15 patients per group. The primary outcome will be the Fugl-Meyer Assessment score. Secondary outcomes will include the modified Rankin Scale, the Box and Block Test, the ABILHAND questionnaire, the Questionnaire Upon Mental Imagery, the Functional Independence Measure, activity monitors, the Stroke Impact Scale version 3.0, and MEG signals. Discussion This clinical trial will provide scientific evidence of treatment effects on motor, functional outcomes, and neural activity mechanisms after AOT and MT in patients with subacute stroke. Further application and use of AOT and MT may include telerehabilitation or home-based rehabilitation through web-based or video teaching. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, ID: NCT02871700. Abstract
BACKGROUND The Motor Activity Log (MAL) and Lower-Functioning MAL (LF-MAL) are used to assess the amount of use of the more impaired arm and the quality of movement during activities in real-life situations for patients with stroke. OBJECTIVE This study used Rasch analysis to examine the psychometric properties of the MAL and LF-MAL in patients with stroke. DESIGN This is a methodological study. METHODS The MAL and LF-MAL include 2 scales: the amount of use (AOU) and the quality of movement (QOM). Rasch analysis was used to examine the unidimensionality, item difficulty hierarchy, targeting, reliability, and differential item functioning (DIF) of the MAL and LF-MAL. RESULTS A total of 403 patients with mild or moderate stroke completed the MAL, and 134 patients with moderate/severe stroke finished the LF-MAL. Evidence of disordered thresholds and poor model fit were found both in the MAL and LF-MAL. After the rating categories were collapsed and misfit items were deleted, all items of the revised MAL and LF-MAL exhibited ordering and constituted unidimensional constructs. The person-item map showed that these assessments were difficult for our participants. The person reliability coefficients of these assessments ranged from .79 to .87. No items in the revised MAL and LF-MAL exhibited bias related to patients' characteristics. LIMITATIONS One limitation is the recruited patients, who have relatively high-functioning ability in the LF-MAL. CONCLUSIONS The revised MAL and LF-MAL are unidimensional scales and have good reliability. The categories function well, and responses to all items in these assessments are not biased by patients' characteristics. However, the revised MAL and LF-MAL both showed floor effect. Further study might add easy items for assessing the performance of activity in real-life situations for patients with stroke.

Abstract
Background Aerobic exercise and cognitive training have been effective in improving cognitive functions; however, whether the combination of these two can further enhance cognition and clinical outcomes in stroke survivors with cognitive decline remains unknown. This study aimed to determine the treatment effects of a sequential combination of aerobic exercise and cognitive training on cognitive function and clinical outcomes. Methods/design Stroke survivors (n = 75) with cognitive decline will be recruited and randomly assigned to cognitive training, aerobic exercise, and sequential combination of aerobic exercise and cognitive training groups. All participants will receive training for 60 minutes per day, 3 days per week for 12 weeks. The aerobic exercise group will receive stationary bicycle training, the cognitive training group will receive cognitive-based training, and the sequential group will first receive 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, followed by 30 minutes of cognitive training. The outcome measures involve cognitive functions, physiological biomarkers, daily function and quality of life, physical functions, and social participation. Participants will be assessed before and immediately after the interventions, and 6 months after the interventions. Repeated measures of analysis of variance will be used to evaluate the changes in outcome measures at the three assessments. Discussion This trial aims to explore the benefits of innovative intervention approaches to improve the cognitive function, physiological markers, daily function, and quality of life in stroke survivors with cognitive decline. The findings will provide evidence to advance post-stroke cognitive rehabilitation. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02550990. Registered on 6 September 2015. Abstract
This study examined the association of sleep with inflammation and oxidative stress biomarkers, and with functional outcomes, after stroke rehabilitation. The rehabilitation effects on biomarkers and functional outcomes were also evaluated. Twenty subacute stroke survivors received 4 weeks of upper limb rehabilitation. Baseline inflammatory (i.e., soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1, sICAM-1) and oxidative stress biomarkers (i.e., glutathione peroxidase, GPx and malondialdehyde, MDA) were assessed, as were sleep outcomes. Positive correlations were observed between baseline level of sICAM-1 and number of awakenings at post-treatment (ρ = 0.51, p < 0.05) as well as between baseline level of MDA and post-performance time of the Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT-time) (ρ = 0.46, p < 0.05). In addition, MDA levels were significantly decreased, and functional outcomes of the modified Rankin Scale (mRS), functional ability scale of the WMFT, and Stroke Impact Scale (SIS-total, and SIS-physical function) were improved after the rehabilitation. This pilot study emphasizes the relationship among biomarkers, sleep, and functional outcomes after stroke rehabilitation. Oxidative stress markers may be useful predictors of functional outcomes in subacute stroke survivors.

Abstract
Robot-assisted bilateral arm therapy (RBAT) has shown promising results in stroke rehabilitation; however, connectivity mapping of the sensorimotor networks after RBAT remains unclear. We used fMRI before and after RBAT and a dose-matched control intervention (DMCI) to explore the connectivity changes in 6 subacute stroke patients. Sensorimotor functions improved in the RBAT and DMCI groups after treatment. Enhanced activation changes were observed in bilateral primary motor cortex (M1) and bilateral supplementary motor area (SMA) after RBAT. Dynamic causal model analysis revealed that interhemispheric connections were enhanced in RBAT patients. These preliminary findings suggest that intracortical and intercortical coupling might underlie poststroke RBAT.

Abstract
Occupation or purposeful activity is the unique historical root of occupational therapy and is thought to enhance health and prevent disability. Nelson's (1988) recent conceptual framework of occupation consolidates the beliefs of occupational therapy. One focus for empirical research and theoretical inquiry is the relationship between occupational form and occupational performance. This article critically analyzes this important part of the Nelson model and meta-analytically summarizes findings of the empirical studies that have examined this relationship. Results of the meta-analysis showed a substantial relationship of occupational form to occupational performance (weighted mean effect size r=0.50) in support of the proposition of the Nelson model that occupation can be analyzed in terms of the relationship between occupational form and occupational performance. The impact of potential moderators on the study findings is explored. Implications for occupational therapy theory and practice are discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the treatment effects of bilateral robotic priming combined with the task-oriented approach on motor impairment, disability, daily function, and quality of life in patients with subacute stroke. DESIGN A randomized controlled trial. SETTING Occupational therapy clinics in medical centers. SUBJECTS Thirty-one subacute stroke patients were recruited. INTERVENTIONS Participants were randomly assigned to receive bilateral priming combined with the task-oriented approach (i.e., primed group) or to the task-oriented approach alone (i.e., unprimed group) for 90 minutes/day, 5 days/week for 4 weeks. The primed group began with the bilateral priming technique by using a bimanual robot-aided device. MAIN MEASURES Motor impairments were assessed by the Fugal-Meyer Assessment, grip strength, and the Box and Block Test. Disability and daily function were measured by the modified Rankin Scale, the Functional Independence Measure, and actigraphy. Quality of life was examined by the Stroke Impact Scale. RESULTS The primed and unprimed groups improved significantly on most outcomes over time. The primed group demonstrated significantly better improvement on the Stroke Impact Scale strength subscale ( p = 0.012) and a trend for greater improvement on the modified Rankin Scale ( p = 0.065) than the unprimed group. CONCLUSION Bilateral priming combined with the task-oriented approach elicited more improvements in self-reported strength and disability degrees than the task-oriented approach by itself. Further large-scale research with at least 31 participants in each intervention group is suggested to confirm the study findings.

Abstract
Most neuroimaging research in stroke rehabilitation mainly focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying the natural history of post-stroke recovery. However, connectivity mapping from resting-state fMRI is well suited for different neurological conditions and provides a promising method to explore plastic changes for treatment-induced recovery from stroke. We examined the changes in resting-state functional connectivity (RS-FC) of the ipsilesional primary motor cortex (M1) in 10 post-acute stroke patients before and immediately after 4 weeks of robot-assisted bilateral arm therapy (RBAT). Motor performance, functional use of the affected arm, and daily function improved in all participants. Reduced interhemispheric RS-FC between the ipsilesional and contralesional M1 (M1-M1) and the contralesional-lateralized connections were noted before treatment. In contrast, greater M1-M1 functional connectivity and disturbed resting-state networks were observed after RBAT relative to pre-treatment. Increased changes in M1-M1 RS-FC after RBAT were coupled with better motor and functional improvements. Mediation analysis showed the pre-to-post difference in M1-M1 RS-FC was a significant mediator for the relationship between motor and functional recovery. These results show neuroplastic changes and functional recoveries induced by RBAT in post-acute stroke survivors and suggest that interhemispheric functional connectivity in the motor cortex may be a neurobiological marker for recovery after stroke rehabilitation.

Abstract
Background Poststroke fatigue is a persistent and distressing symptom among stroke survivors. In this study, we investigated the reliability and validity of a vertical numerical rating scale supplemented with a faces rating scale (NRS-FRS) in measuring poststroke fatigue. Methods The fatigue intensity of 106 individuals with stroke was measured twice, 1 week apart, using a vertical NRS-FRS to measure test-retest reliability. The intraclass correlation coefficient, a relative reliability index, was calculated to examine the degree of consistency and agreement between the two test occasions. Absolute reliability indices, including the standard error of measurement, minimal detectable change, and Bland-Altman limits of agreement, were used to quantify measurement errors and determine systematic biases of the two test occasions. We also administered the vertical NRS concurrently as a comparator measure for assessing fatigue in 50 consecutive patients with stroke who were recruited later in the study period. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient (ρ) was used to examine the concurrent validity of the NRS-FRS. Discriminant validity was assessed by means of receiver operating characteristic curves, sensitivity, and specificity. Results The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.95 for the NRS-FRS. The standard error of measurement and the minimal detectable change at the 95 % confidence interval of the NRS-FRS were 0.50 and 1.39, respectively. The Bland-Altman analyses showed no significant systematic bias between the repeated measurements. A narrow range of the limits of agreement was shown on the Bland-Altman plot, indicating the NRS-FRS had high stability and low variation between the two test occasions. The correlations between the NRS-FRS and NRS were good at test (ρ = 0.85) and retest (ρ = 0.84). Compared with the NRS cutoff value of ≥1, sensitivity with the NRS-FRS at test and retest was 94 and 92 % and specificity was 79 and 90 %, respectively. Conclusions This study provides further evidence of the reliability and validity of the NRS-FRS in measuring fatigue intensity in patients with stroke. The NRS-FRS had high sensitivity and specificity. The NRS-FRS may be a reliable and valid measure for clinicians and researchers to assess fatigue and determine whether a real change has occurred in groups and at the individual level of patients with stroke.

Abstract
PURPOSE Bottom-up-based sensory stimulation has been useful in promoting recovery from post-stroke neglect. Light and color are salient stimuli for guiding our orienting behaviors and influence the degree of spatial bias. This study evaluated the effects of lateralized light flash and color on spatial bias in unilateral neglect (UN). METHOD We enrolled 15 individuals with UN as a consequence of a right hemispheric stroke of less than 65 d. This was a 3 × 3 design study with three conditions of lens color (colorless, red, and blue) and three conditions of flash light locations (no flash, left, and right). RESULTS All participants showed a decrease in ipsilesional spatial bias under left-side light flash and a red lens. Right-side light flash and a blue lens induced more rightward bias than other conditions. CONCLUSIONS This evidence confirms the use of sensory stimulation to complement post-stroke UN remediation. Lateralized light flash to the contralesional space and red-colored lenses have beneficial effects on amelioration of UN, whereas ipsilesional light flash and the color blue may exacerbate ipsilesional spatial bias in stroke survivors with UN. Implications for Rehabilitation Contralesional light flash and the color red may ameliorate ipsilesional spatial bias in stroke survivors with unilateral neglect (UN). Ipsilesional flash of light and the color blue may worsen ipsilesional spatial bias in stroke survivors with UN.

Abstract
The stress induced by strain in the channel of metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFET) is an effective method to boost the device performance. The geometric dimensions of spacer, gate height, and the contact etch stop layer (CESL) are important factors among the feasible booster. This study utilized the mismatch of the thermal expansion coefficients of stressors to simulate the process-induced stress in the N-MOSFET. Different temperatures are applied to different region of the device to generate the required strain. The analysis was performed by well-developed finite element package. The composite spacers with variant width of inserted silicon nitride (SiO2/SiN/SiO2, ONO) were proposed and their impacts on channel stress were compared. Two aspects of the impacts of those factors on the channel stress in the longitudinal direction for N-MOSFET with variant channel length were investigated. Firstly, the channel stresses of device without CESL for different gate heights were studied. Secondly, with stress applied to CESL and ONO spacers, the induced stresses in the channel were analyzed for long/short gate length. Two conclusions were drawn from the results of simulation. The N-MOSFET device without CESL shows that the stressed spacer alone generates compressive stress and the magnitude increases along with higher gate height. The channel stress becomes tensile for device with CESL and increases when the thickness of CESL and the height of gate increase, especially for device with shorter gate length. The gate height plays more significant role in inducing channel stress compared with the thickness of CESL. The channel stress can be used to quantify the mobility of electron/hole for strained MOSFET device. Therefore, with the guideline disclosed in this study, better device performance can be expected for N-MOSFET.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A subgroup of patients benefiting most from robot-assisted therapy (RT) has not yet been described. We examined the predictors of improved outcomes after RT. METHOD Sixty-six patients with stroke receiving RT were analyzed. The outcome measures were the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT), Motor Activity Log (MAL), and Stroke Impact Scale (SIS). The potential predictors were age, side of lesion, time since onset, Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) scores, accelerometer data, Box and Block Test (BBT) scores, and kinematic parameters. RESULTS BBT scores were predictive of FMA (29%) and MAL (9%-15%) improvements. Reduced shoulder flexion synergy, as measured by less shoulder abduction during forward reach, and MAS-distal were predictive of WMFT-function improvements. MAS-distal was predictive of SIS-physical improvements. Demographic variables did not predict outcomes. CONCLUSION Manual dexterity was a valuable predictor of motor impairment and daily function after RT. Outcomes at different levels may have different predictors.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF STUDY The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of uroflowmetry in predicting the possibility of abnormal voiding symptoms following antimuscarinic treatment for overactive bladder syndrome (OAB) in Taiwanese women. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on women with OAB. Forty-five women with abnormal voiding patterns shown by urodynamic study comprised the main group and 38 women with normal voiding patterns comprised the control group. All patients were prescribed two mg tolterodine once daily for one week. Follow-up on complaints of abnormal voiding symptoms was done one week later. RESULTS One woman in control group and 12 women in main group complained of abnormal voiding symptoms. There was a significant difference in the occurrence of abnormal voiding symptoms after antimuscarinic administration between main study group and control group (26.7 % vs 2.6 %, p = 0.02). CONCLUSIOn: Uroflowmetry is a non-invasive and simple tool to predict the occurrence of abnormal voiding symptoms after antimuscarinic use.

Abstract
Robot-assisted therapy (RT) and constraint-induced therapy (CIT) both show great promise to improve stroke rehabilitation outcomes. Although the respective treatment efficacy of RT and CIT has been validated, the additive effects of RT combined with CIT remain unknown. This study investigated the treatment effects of RT in sequential combination with a distributed form of CIT (RT + dCIT) compared with RT and conventional rehabilitation (CR). Forty-eight patients with stroke were enrolled and randomized to receive one of the three interventions for 4 weeks. Primary outcomes assessed the changes of motor impairment and motor function on the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) and Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT). Secondary outcomes, including the Motor Activity Log (MAL) and accelerometers, examined functional performance during daily activities. The three treatment groups improved significantly on most primary and secondary outcomes over time. The combined RT + dCIT group exhibited significantly greater improvement on the FMA and functional ability subscale of the WMFT than the RT and CR groups. The improvements on the MAL and accelerometers were not significantly different among the three groups. RT in sequential combination with CIT led to additive effects on participants' motor ability and functional ability to perform motor tasks after stroke, which support that combined therapy can be an effective means to intensify outcomes. Further research investigating the potential long-term effects of combination therapy, especially on real-life performance, would be valuable.

Abstract
We evaluated the reliability of 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and determined its ability to predict functional outcomes in stroke survivors. The rehabilitation effect on 8-OHdG and functional outcomes were also assessed. Sixty-one stroke patients received a 4-week rehabilitation. Urinary 8-OHdG levels were determined by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. The test-retest reliability of 8-OHdG was good (interclass correlation coefficient = 0.76). Upper-limb motor function and muscle power determined by the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) and Medical Research Council (MRC) scales before rehabilitation showed significant negative correlation with 8-OHdG (r = −0.38, r = −0.30; p < 0.05). After rehabilitation, we found a fair and significant correlation between 8-OHdG and FMA (r = −0.34) and 8-OHdG and pain (r = 0.26, p < 0.05). Baseline 8-OHdG was significantly correlated with post-treatment FMA, MRC, and pain scores (r = −0.34, −0.31, and 0.25; p < 0.05), indicating its ability to predict functional outcomes. 8-OHdG levels were significantly decreased, and functional outcomes were improved after rehabilitation. The exploratory study findings conclude that 8-OHdG is a reliable and promising biomarker of oxidative stress and could be a valid predictor of functional outcomes in patients. Monitoring of behavioral indicators along with biomarkers may have crucial benefits in translational stroke research.

Abstract
UNLABELLED BACKGROUND. Previous research using the streamlined Wolf Motor Function Test (SWMFT) has focused either on the 3- to 9-month period or on the >12-month period after stroke and lacked the information for those at 9 to 12 months. Whether SWMFT scores reflect motor deficit and recovery from early to late stages after stroke remains unclear. OBJECTIVE A retrospective study using the Functional Ability Scale (FAS) was conducted to evaluate whether all SWMFTs items measure the poststroke recovery of upper extremity (UE) motor function and if they could be used for patients within 9 to 12 months after a stroke. METHODS Rasch analysis was conducted, and data were drawn from patients 3 months to years after a stroke. RESULTS The continuum of UE motor function in SWMFT-FAS was supported. Subacute patients had the best motor function, followed by the 9- to 12-month group, and then chronic patients. Variation in UE motor function was large (2.35-2.72 logits), and motor abilities of these 3 groups overlapped. The 8 SWMFT items could target a broad range of UE motor function, from -8.28 to 7.80 logits. The average difficulty of these 8 items also matched the UE motor ability of the subgroup at 9 to 12 months after stroke, and individual versions of the SWMFT performed well to assess the motor ability of this group. CONCLUSIONS The SWMFTs had sound hierarchical properties. The SWMFT-Chronic or the SWMFT-Subacute could be used to evaluate UE function of this subgroup at 9 to 12 months after stroke.

Abstract
Schizophrenia affects not only mental function but also movement. We compared the movement of patients with mild schizophrenia and healthy control participants during a bimanual assembly task and examined whether changes in object size affected unimanual and bimanual movements. Fifteen patients with schizophrenia and 15 age- and gender-matched control participants were instructed to bimanually reach for and assemble objects. We manipulated the object size for the left hand (large vs. small) and measured movement time, peak velocity, and bimanual synchronization to represent movement speed, forcefulness, and bimanual coordination. Patients with schizophrenia showed slower and less forceful unimanual movements and less coordinated bimanual movements than control participants. Increasing the object size elicited faster and more forceful unimanual movements and more coordinated bimanual movements in patients. The results suggest the need for movement rehabilitation in patients with schizophrenia and the possibility of manipulating object size to optimize patients' movements. These results benefit the practice of evidence-based therapy.

Abstract
A delay in functional hand performance broadly affects a child's successful participation in daily activities as well as later academic performance. Despite its high prevalence, hand function has received much less attention than other developmental domains, especially for young children. The aims of this study, therefore, were to examine hand function in preterm children up to a corrected age of 24 months; to establish predictive models for estimating preterm children's hand function; and to identify the contribution of early neuromotor assessments. This study included 230 preterm children (69, 76, and 85 children at corrected ages of 6-, 12-, and 24-months, respectively) who were recruited from the database of the preemie follow-up clinic at the National Cheng Kung University Hospital in Tainan, Taiwan. Hand function was evaluated using the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales II. Demographic information, birth history, and developmental documents were obtained from the medical records of routine preemie clinic follow-ups. Approximately half of healthy preterm children demonstrate hand function deficits at 12 and 24 months of corrected age. The Neonatal Medical Index, representing an infant's history of medical complication, was the best predictor of hand function at 12 and 24 months of corrected age. The social factor, represented by maternal educational year, was found to have influence on hand function only in preterm children at corrected age of 24 months old. Finally, early neuromotor performance demonstrated significant predictability of later hand function that supports the importance of continuous follow-up examinations in children with a history of prematurity. An understanding of a preterm child's early hand function as well as how its risk factors evolve helps clinicians both target children who might benefit from early intervention and ensure that children reach their full developmental potential.

Abstract
Biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion (BSA) is a costly problem affecting both sewerage infrastructure and sludge handling facilities such as digesters. The aim of this study was to verify BSA in full-scale digesters by identifying the microorganisms involved in the concrete corrosion process, that is, sulfate-reducing (SRB) and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB). To investigate the SRB and SOB communities, digester sludge and biofilm samples were collected. SRB diversity within digester sludge was studied by applying polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) targeting the dsrB-gene (dissimilatory sulfite reductase beta subunit). To reveal SOB diversity, cultivation dependent and independent techniques were applied. The SRB diversity studies revealed different uncultured SRB, confirming SRB activity and H2S production. Comparable DGGE profiles were obtained from the different sludges, demonstrating the presence of similar SRB species. By cultivation, three pure SOB strains from the digester headspace were obtained including Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, Thiomonas intermedia and Thiomonas perometabolis. These organisms were also detected with PCR-DGGE in addition to two new SOB: Thiobacillus thioparus and Paracoccus solventivorans. The SRB and SOB responsible for BSA were identified within five different digesters, demonstrating that BSA is a problem occurring not only in sewer systems but also in sludge digesters. In addition, the presence of different SOB species was successfully associated with the progression of microbial corrosion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE. We determined whether listening to excerpts of classical music ameliorates unilateral neglect (UN) in stroke patients. METHOD. In this within-subject study, we recruited and separately tested 16 UN patients with a right-hemisphere stroke under three conditions within 1 wk. In each condition, participants were asked to complete three subtests of the Behavioral Inattention Test while listening to classical music, white noise, or nothing. All conditions and the presentation of the tests were counterbalanced across participants. Visual analog scales were used to provide self-reported ratings of arousal and mood. RESULTS. Participants generally had the highest scores under the classical music condition and the lowest scores under the silence condition. In addition, most participants rated their arousal as highest after listening to classical music. CONCLUSION. Listening to classical music may improve visual attention in stroke patients with UN. Future research with larger study populations is necessary to validate these findings.

Abstract
Quantum decoherence can be viewed as the mechanism responsible for the quantum-to-classical transition as the initially prepared quantum state interacts with its environment in an irreversible manner. One of the most common mechanisms responsible for the macroscopically observed decoherence involves collisions of an atom or molecule, initially prepared in a coherent superposition of states, with gas particles. In this work, a coherent superposition of quantum internal states of NO molecules is prepared by the interaction between the molecule with both a static and a radiofrequency electric field. Subsequently, NO + Ar collision decoherence experiments are investigated by measuring the loss of coherence as a function of the number of collisions. Data analysis using a model based on the interaction potential of the collisional partners allowed to unravel the molecular mechanism responsible for the loss of coherence in the prepared NO quantum superposition of internal states. The relevance of the present work relies on several aspects. On the one hand, the use of radio-waves introduces a new way for the production of coherent beams. On the other hand, the employed methodology could be useful in investigating the Stereodynamics of chemical reactions with coherent reagents.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to assess the validity, responsiveness, and clinimetric properties of the Spinal Alignment and Range of Motion Measure (SAROMM) in children with cerebral palsy (CP). METHOD Sixty-two children with CP (40 males, 22 females) with a median age of 3 years and 11 months (range 1-6y) and their caregivers participated in this study. Among the children, 56 had spastic CP while six had non-spastic CP; 53 had bilateral CP, while nine had unilateral limb involvement. Thirty-three children were classified as Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels I to III and 23 as levels IV or V. Fifty-six children (90%) received regular rehabilitation by means of regular physical or occupational therapy (50% once or twice per week and 40% more than two times per week) and six children (10%) received irregular rehabilitation (less than once a week). Construct validity was determined by assessing the strength of the correlation between the spinal alignment SAROMM (SAROMM-SA), the range of motion SAROMM (SAROMM-ROM), and the total SAROMM (SAROMM-total), and construct measures, including the 66-item Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-66) and Functional Independence Measures for Children (WeeFIM), at baseline and at 6-months follow-up. Responsiveness was examined using effect size. Minimal detectable change (MDC) at the 90% confidence level (MDC90) and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) were analysed. RESULTS The SAROMM with the GMFM-66 and WeeFIM had fair to good construct validity. The effect size values of all SAROMM scales were 0.24 to 0.48. The MDC90 values and MCID range were 1.43 and 0.47 to 1.67 for the SAROMM-SA, 3.12 and 3.68 to 4.07 for the SAROMM-ROM, and 3.22 and 4.53 to 4.62 for the SAROMM-total. INTERPRETATION The clinimetric properties of the SAROMM allow clinicians to determine whether a change in SAROMM score represents a clinically meaningful change.

Abstract
We compared a unilateral robot-assisted training protocol (URTP) and a bilateral robot-assisted training protocol (BRTP) to study their differential effects. We recruited 21 patients with stroke who received 90-105 min of therapy 5 days/wk for 4 wk. Participants in the URTP and BRTP groups practiced forearm pronation and supination and wrist flexion and extension in a simultaneous manner with the Bi-Manu-Track. The control group received standard rehabilitation. Clinical measures included the Fugl-Meyer Assessment, the Medical Research Council instrument, grip strength, and the Modified Ashworth Scale to assess motor impairment, muscle power, muscle strength, and spasticity, respectively. The pilot study indicated that the URTP and BRTP might have differential benefits for movement improvement. URTP might be a more compelling approach to improving upper-limb motor impairment, muscle power, and strength at the distal joints than BRTP, whereas BRTP could be an optimal approach to improving proximal muscle power.
