Abstract
The synthetic cationic conjugated polyelectrolytes and oligomers have demonstrated great effectiveness and versatility as antimicrobial materials. They have the ability to eliminate or render inactive various pathogens, including viruses like SARS-CoV-2, bacteria, and fungi. These pathogens can be rapidly eradicated when the polyelectrolytes and oligomers are applied as sprays, wipes, or coatings on solid surfaces. Inactivation of the pathogens occurs through two distinct processes: a non-light-activated process similar to Quats, and a more efficient and faster process that is triggered by light. These materials possess fluorescence and photosensitizing properties, enabling prolonged protection when coated on surfaces. The level of fluorescence exhibited by samples applied to nonfluorescent surfaces serves as an indicator of the coating's integrity and viability, making it easily detectable. Importantly, these materials demonstrate low toxicity towards mammalian cells and human skin, allowing for their safe use. While they can serve as durable coatings for pathogen protection, extended exposure to visible or ultraviolet light leads to their photochemical degradation. Our research also suggests that these materials act against pathogens through nonspecific mechanisms, minimizing the likelihood of pathogens developing resistance and rendering the materials ineffective.

Abstract
Background Diabetes is a common systemic disease in the world. Acute complications of diabetes may cause sudden unexpected deaths. Analysis done in vitreous fluid which is more protected and less contaminated by bacteria comparing to blood will produce more accurate results. Aim Thus, we aimed to diagnose diabetes by comparing glucose levels of post mortem blood and vitreous fluid in death cases. Materials and Methods A total of 17 New Zealand-type rabbits were divided into hyperglycemia (8), hypoglycemia (8), and control group (1). Rabbits were monitored for 5 days after experimental diabetes induction, and samples were taken at the point of death. Later rabbits were left in their environment, and samples were taken again at the post mortem first day. Mean blood glucose levels of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia group were in diabetic range. Results Blood glucose levels of hyperglycemic rabbits were measured as 512 ± 52,1 mg/dl, while vitreous glucose levels were 518,3 ± 76,8 mg/dl at the point of death. After one day, levels were measured as 433,9 ± 59,3 mg/dl and 329,8 ± 86,6 mg/dl. Blood glucose levels of hypoglycemic rabbits were measured as 39 ± 3,8 mg/dl, while vitreous glucose levels were 53,4 ± 13,9 mg/dl at the point of death. After one day, levels were measured as 36 ± 4,2 mg/dl and 1,6 ± 0,6 mg/dl. After analysis, there was a statistically significant difference between day 0 and 1 vitreous levels of hypoglycemia group. Conclusion It can be clearly seen that vitreous fluid samples should be taken in judicial cases with sudden unexpected deaths like diabetes. This will contribute to identification cause of death.

Abstract
"Click" reactions have transformed the molecular sciences. Augmenting cycloaddition reactions, sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange (SuFEx) chemistry has diversified the landscape of molecular assembly. Herein, we report a facile strategy to access SuFExable NH-pyrazoles via strain and catalyst-free 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions of stabilized diazo compounds under mild conditions. Subsequent SuFEx proceeds efficiently with various N- and O-nucleophiles. Access to SuFExable NH-pyrazoles─a class of compounds containing two common pharmacophores─enables future opportunities within drug discovery, chemical biology, materials chemistry, and related fields.

Abstract
This paper presents results of a study of a new cationic oligomer that contains end groups and a chromophore affording inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 by visible light irradiation in solution or as a solid coating on paper wipes and glass fiber filtration substrates. A key finding of this study is that the cationic oligomer with a central thiophene ring and imidazolium charged groups gives outstanding performance in both the killing of E. coli bacterial cells and inactivation of the virus at very short times. Our introduction of cationic N-methyl imidazolium groups enhances the light activation process for both E. coli and SARS-CoV-2 but dampens the killing of the bacteria and eliminates the inactivation of the virus in the dark. For the studies with this oligomer in solution at a concentration of 1 μg/mL and E. coli, we obtain 3 log killing of the bacteria with 10 min of irradiation with LuzChem cool white lights (mimicking indoor illumination). With the oligomer in solution at a concentration of 10 μg/mL, we observe 4 log inactivation (99.99%) in 5 min of irradiation and total inactivation after 10 min. The oligomer is quite active against E. coli on oligomer-coated paper wipes and glass fiber filter supports. The SARS-CoV-2 is also inactivated by oligomer-coated glass fiber filter papers. This study indicates that these oligomer-coated materials may be very useful as wipes and filtration materials.

Abstract
Background Death by firearm is unacceptable for children who need to be under the protection of the state and the family, wherever and however. Firearm-related fatality is common among all ages. One of the causes of this high rate is likely the easy access to firearms. Aim This study aims to discuss the characteristics of deaths attributable to childhood firearm injuries in Adana, Turkey and to compare them with similar studies. Patients and Methods In this study, the records of 448 (1.97%) cases under 18 years of age who died due to firearm-related injuries among a total of 22,668 cases whose autopsies were performed by the Morgue Department, Council of Forensic Medicine Adana Group Administration between January 1, 2004 and December 12, 2017 were retrospectively evaluated. Results Age ranged from 45 days to 18 years; 285 cases were male and 163 cases were female, and male/female ratio was 1.7. The majority of cases were between 13 and 18 years of age (n: 340, 76.0%). According to the manner of death, the leading cause was homicide (n: 212, 47.4%) and the most frequently used type of firearm were shotguns (n: 226). Single firearm wound was present in 82.8% of the cases. The location of entrance wounds revealed that 185 wounds were located in the head-neck. Although homicide was the leading manner of death among the overall cases, it was determined that suicide was the leading cause among the 13-18 age group (n: 149). Firearm-related injuries and deaths in children should bring child neglect to the agenda. Conclusion Presence of firearms at home and easy access are the causes of increased firearm injuries and death in children. Easily accessible weapons in homes are often involved in suicides and homicides, as well as accidents, which are more common in young children and adolescents. We believe that the use of firearms outside of the security forces should be prohibited and that strict laws should be enforced on the handling and use of firearms.

Abstract
Isolated extrarenal retroperitoneal and renal echinococcal cysts are rare manifestations of hydatid disease. We report 23 cases of renal and other retroperitoneal hydatid cysts diagnosed and treated in our clinic. Flank pain, abdominal mass and non-specific symptoms such as nausea and vomiting were the major symptoms. Indirect haemagglutination test was positive in 18 cases and eosinophilia in four cases. Among imaging studies computerized tomography was the most valuable diagnostic examination. A high index of suspicion is needed for preoperative diagnosis of hydatid disease of kidney and retroperitoneum.

Abstract
Photochemical activation of meta-diynes incapable of Bergman and C1-C5 cyclizations still leads to efficient double-strand DNA cleavage. Spatial proximity of the two arylethynyl groups is not required for efficient DNA photocleavage by the enediyne-lysine conjugates. Efficiency of the cleavage is a function of the external pH and DNA damage is strongly enhanced at pH < 7. The pH-dependence of the DNA photocleavage activity stems from the protonation states of lysine amino groups, the internal electron donors responsible for intramolecular PET quenching and deactivation of the photoreactive excited states. DNA-binding analysis suggests intercalative DNA binding for phenyl substituted conjugate and groove binding for TFP-substituted conjugate. Additional insights in the possible mechanism for DNA damage from the ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) scavenger experiments found that generation of singlet oxygen is partially involved in the DNA damage.

Abstract
Ketamine has been used in combination with a variety of other agents for intra-articular analgesia, with promising results. However, although it has been shown to be toxic to various types of cell, there is no available information on the effects of ketamine on chondrocytes. We conducted a prospective randomised controlled study to evaluate the effects of ketamine on cultured chondrocytes isolated from rat articular cartilage. The cultured cells were treated with 0.125 mM, 0.250 mM, 0.5 mM, 1 mM and 2 mM of ketamine respectively for 6 h, 24 hours and 48 hours, and compared with controls. Changes of apoptosis were evaluated using fluorescence microscopy with a 490 nm excitation wavelength. Apoptosis and eventual necrosis were seen at each concentration. The percentage viability of the cells was inversely proportional to both the duration and dose of treatment (p = 0.002 and p = 0.009). Doses of 0.5 mM, 1 mM and 2mM were absolutely toxic. We concluded that in the absence of solid data to support the efficacy of intra-articular ketamine for the control of pain, and the toxic effects of ketamine on cultured chondrocytes shown by this study, intra-articular ketamine, either alone or in combination with other agents, should not be used to control pain. Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between suicidal behavior and associated factors such as depression, anxiety, and perceived social support level in cancer patients. Material/Methods The study group included 102 patients who were under treatment in the oncology department and the control group included 100 individuals with similar sociodemographic features. A sociodemographic information form, Beck depression inventory, Beck anxiety inventory, suicidal behavior inventory, suicidal ideation inventory, and multidimensional inventory of perceived social support were used. Results The mean Beck depression inventory and Beck anxiety inventory scores in the study group were significantly higher compared to the control group. Thirteen patients in the study group attempted suicide, whereas 3 individuals attempted suicide in the control group. Similarly, the mean suicide behavior and ideation scores in the study group were significantly higher compared to the control group. The mean total multidimensional inventories of perceived social support score, as well as the mean family and friend sub-inventory scores in the control group were significantly higher compared to the study group. Conclusions This study revealed that depression and anxiety occur frequently in cancer patients. Suicide attempts and ideation are higher in cancer patients compared to the control group. Social support perceived from family and friends is lower in cancer patients. Suicide attempts are correlated with depression, anxiety, low level of perceived social support, and advanced disease stage.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate the analgesic effects of postoperative epidural administration of neostigmine and morphine in patients scheduled for caesarean section under epidural anaesthesia. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty ASA I-II patients, scheduled for caesarean section under epidural anaesthesia, were randomly allocated into three groups. Neostigmine (10 μg/kg), morphine (3 mg), and saline (6 mL) were administered to the neostigmine, morphine, and control groups, respectively, 30 minutes after the surgery via the epidural catheter. Afterwards, postoperative pain treatment was administered to all patients with a patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) device, using 0.125% bupivacaine. The patients were followed up for 24 hours. The total volume of local anaesthetics used, the time to first analgesic requirement, analgesic requirements, VAS scores, analgesia quality, first passage of bowel gas, ambulation times, haemodynamic parameters and side effects were evaluated. RESULTS The time to first analgesic requirement was significantly longer in the morphine group than in the neostigmine and control groups (p<0.01), and in the neostigmine group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The total local anaesthetic consumption and the number of bolus injections were significantly higher in the control group than in the other groups (p<0.01). The first passage of bowel gas occurred significantly sooner in the neostigmine group than in the morphine (p<0.01) and the control (p<0.05) groups. Itching frequency was significantly higher in the morphine group than in the other two groups (p<0.05). VAS scores were similar in the morphine and neostigmine groups. CONCLUSION Postoperative single-dose epidural neostigmine reduced the 24-hour analgesic requirements but in the chosen doses presented an analgesic effect significantly lower than morphine. Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the beneficial effects of the fish oil (FO) supplementation on oxidative stress, sperm characteristics and histological alterations in the male reproductive system of rats against cisplatin (CP) toxicity. The rats were divided randomly into 4 equal groups (control, FO, CP and FO + CP). FO was orally administered at the dose of 1 softgel per rat per day for 14 days and CP was intraperitoneally given at the dose of 7 mg kg(-1) with a single injection. In CP + FO group, they were applicated at the same doses and times. The results showed that CP caused a significant oxidative damage via induction of lipid peroxidation and reduction in the antioxidant defence system potency in the testis tissue. In addition, sperm motility and sperm concentration significantly decreased but the abnormal sperm rate and histopathological testicular damage increased with CP treatment. On the other hand, FO treatment prevented oxidative, histopathological and spermatological effects of CP and reversed side effects of CP. In conclusion, FO supplementation had significant beneficial effects against CP toxicity on male reproductive system and toxic effects of CP can be prevented by FO treatment. Therefore, it appears that fish oil may be useful for the prevention and treatment of cisplatin-induced reproductive system toxicity.

Abstract
Lipoprotein aggregation is generated by hydrophobic nature of lipoproteins that is known to be one of the causes of atherosclerosis. Low density lipoproteins (LDL) has been extensively studied in this respect but not chylomicrons. There is strong evidence that post-prandial triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins are atherogenic. Because biophysical properties of lipoproteins are largely determined by their lipid compositions, hydrophobic nature of thoracic lymph duct chylomicrons obtained from rats given different fats or oils by gavage was investigated by vortexing-induced aggregation and hydrophobic interaction chromatography. Contrary to LDL, vortexing did not cause aggregation in chylomicrons. Vortexing of fish oil and butter chylomicrons resulted in more prominent reduction in absorbances compared with chylomicrons from other sources that might indicate less micelle stability. Hydrophobic interaction chromatography of fish oil, palm oil and olive oil chylomicrons yielded three fractions, whereas that of sunflower, margarine and butter chylomicrons gave rise to two fractions. These results suggest that surface hydrophobicity of chylomicrons might be heterogenous. Our results also demonstrate that fish oil chylomicrons have less hydrophobicity and lower stability against vortexing compared with chylomicrons from other sources. Considering beneficial effects of fish oil in cardiovascular health, less hydrophobicity together with lower stability might provide an additional atherogeneicity index for lipoproteins.

Abstract
ABSTRACTElectronic properties of silicon-carbon and silicon-sodium binary clusters, produced by laser vaporization, were investigated by photoelectron spectroscopic or photoionization spectroscopic method. The photoelectron spectra of the C1Sim-1- clusters are similar to those of pure Sim- clusters in the peak positions and their envelopes, which is attributed to the similar electronic structure of Si and C atoms, leading to a similar geometry. In contrast, the similarity in the photoelectron spectra is not observed between Cn- and Cn-1Si1 clusters, which is attributed to a change in their geometry; from chain to ring.The ionization energies (Ei) of the SinNam clusters (l≤n≤15) were determined from the threshold energy of their ionization efficiency curves. The clear parallelism between the ionization energy of SinNa and the electron affinity (EA) of Sin is found; there are three local minima at n=4, 7 and 10. This implies the facts that (1) the structure of the SinNa clusters keeps the frame of the corresponding Sin cluster unchanged and that (2) the parentage of singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) of SinNa is the LUMO of Sin. Furthermore, the EAs of SinNa (4≤n≤7) were determined from the threshold energy in the photoelectron spectra of SinNa". When the EAs of SinNa are compared with those of Sin, the EAs decrease at n=4-6, but the EA increases at n=7. The results of ab initio calculation show that the Na atom is bound by two Si atoms (bridge site) at n=4-6, whereas it is bound by one Si atom (apex site) at n=7.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Meperidine has been shown to exhibit a sensory block in peripheral nerves. However, its motor blockade ability is controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate, electroneurographically, the ability of meperidine to inhibit conduction in both sensory and motor fibres in the ulnar nerve. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was conducted in a double-blind, placebo-controlled fashion. Eighteen healthy volunteers were randomized into three groups (Saline, meperidine 1% and meperidine 2%). Three millilitre of the study solution was administered to the ulnar nerve perineurally at the level of the wrist by the guidance of a nerve stimulator. Sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) and compound motor action potential (CMAP) amplitudes were recorded. At least a 20% decrease in the initial response amplitude was accepted as a block. RESULTS The number of individuals with sensory and motor block with saline, meperidine 1% and meperidine 2% were 0/6, 6/6, 6/6 and 0/6, 5/6, 6/6, respectively (P<0.05). The maximum decrease in the median SNAP and CMAP amplitude values were 4.7% and 8.3% with saline; 38.5% and 46.4% with meperidine 1%; and 100% and 97.8% with meperidine 2%, respectively (P<0.05). Median values for the duration of sensory and motor block with meperidine 1% and meperidine 2% were 45, 52.5 and 30, 32.5 min, respectively. CONCLUSION Meperidine blocks sensory and motor nerve conduction in a dose-related manner.

Abstract
Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is a rare genetically mechanobullous disorder, characterized by an excessive susceptibility of the skin and mucosa to separate from the underlying tissues after mechanical trauma. Avoiding mechanical stimulation of the skin and mucous membranes is essential in the anesthetic management. These case reports describes bilateral nerve block in two patients with an anticipated airway difficulty due to epidermolysis bullosa. We report the successful applications of intraoperative indirect electrocardiogram monitoring without electrodes and bilateral axillary and midhumeral nerve block using levobupivacaine in combination with lidocaine in patients who had previously undergone repeated general anesthesia. We conclude that regional anesthesia should be preferred in patients with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, especially those who had previously undergone repeated general anesthetic procedures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The incidence of hormonal dysfunction as a cause of impotence remains controversial. However, several recent studies have reported evidence of hormonal abnormalities in 25-35% of impotent men. Hypothyroidism has been reported to occur in 6% of impotent men. METHODS In the present study, we examined nitrergic responses in hypothyroidism in rabbit corpus cavernosum and compared them with controls. RESULTS Carbachol-induced relaxation responses and electrical field stimulation (EFS)-induced frequency-dependent relaxations decreased significantly in hypothyroid rabbits. Papaverine and sodium nitroprusside (SNP)-induced relaxation responses did not change significantly in hypothyroid rabbits. The contraction responses of phenylephrine and EFS-induced frequency-dependent contractions were significantly decreased in the hypothyroid group. CONCLUSIONS We can speculate that the reduction of relaxant responses to EFS and carbachol in hypothyroid rabbits can depend on a decreased release of nitric oxide (NO) from nitrergic nerves and endothelium or a reduction of muscarinic receptor density. Also, decreases in contraction responses may depend on diminished adrenoceptor density.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the incidence of positive urinary nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) values, which are currently used to detect transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). MATERIAL AND METHODS Urinary NMP22 values were determined preoperatively in 41 patients in whom a solid renal mass had been detected using CT and who were scheduled for radical nephrectomy; 38 of these patients were diagnosed with RCC. Two patients had xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis and one had metastasis of a small cell adenocarcinoma to the kidney; these patients were excluded from the study. A total of 30 patients with kidney stones and simple renal cysts were used as controls. RESULTS The urinary NMP22 values of the RCC patients were significantly higher than those of the controls. Of the 38 patients with RCC, 23 (60.5%) had positive urinary NMP22 values > or =10 U/ml. There were four measurements above this cut-off level in the control group. Urinary NMP22 values increased with an increase in pathologic tumor stage, but the correlation was not statistically significant. There was no correlation between grade and urinary NMP22 or between tumor burden and urinary NMP22. CONCLUSIONS The urinary NMP22 test may help to diagnose RCC and may also result in an increase in the incidental discovery of RCC. As elevated urinary NMP22 levels have also been found to occur in RCC, patients with suspected bladder cancer and positive urinary NMP22 levels should be more broadly evaluated. Specific NMP assays for renal tumor cells may increase the utility of the test for RCC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of antimuscarinic treatment with tolterodine combined with behavioural modification as a first-line treatment, before invasive investigation, in children with non-neurogenic voiding dysfunction but no obvious anatomical or neurogenic cause. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study comprised 44 children presenting with voiding dysfunction (30 girls and 14 boys, mean age 7 years, range 5-14); all had a noninvasive evaluation consisting of a history, urine analysis, renal and bladder ultrasonography and physical examination, with specific emphasis on the voiding pattern. Anticholinergic treatment with tolterodine (1 mg twice daily) was started in all patients; they were also informed about conservative management, including timed voiding, double voiding and relaxation of the pelvic floor during voiding. At the start and after 3 months, the dysfunctional voiding symptom score (DVSS) was completed twice by all patients. RESULTS For all patients the mean (sd) DVSS was 14.0 (2.67) and 6.68 (3.67) before and after treatment, respectively; the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.001). The mean scores for girls and boys, respectively, were 13.8 (2.79) and 14.5 (2.44) before and 6.43 (3.79) and 7.50 (3.34) after treatment. CONCLUSION Tolterodine combined with behavioural modification for dysfunctional voiding in children with no neurological or anatomical abnormality can be recommended as a first-line treatment before invasive evaluation. Additionally, the DVSS appears to provide accurate and objective data for monitoring the effect of treatment in such children.

Abstract
Pubovaginal sling procedures are being performed with increased frequency for stress urinary incontinence. The vaginal wall sling was introduced in 1989 by Raz et al., and its success rate has been reported as being 61%-100%. A number of recent studies have identified that some patient factors may influence the likelihood of a successful outcome. In the present study, we evaluated whether preoperative Valsalva leak-point pressure and urethral pressure profile can be used as predictors of success after surgery. We identified the preoperative characteristics of 58 women who underwent an isolated in situ anterior vaginal wall sling procedure by the same surgeon. Patients' ages, previous anti-incontinence procedures, hormone replacement status and previous hysterectomies were determined and patients underwent urodynamics, including cystometry, measurement of the Valsalva leak-point pressure and urethral pressure profile (maximal urethral pressure). After the vaginal wall sling procedure, success was defined as a significant improvement in stress urinary incontinence symptoms or no symptoms at all. The 58 women ranged from 41 to-71 years old (average 52.3) and average follow-up was 26 months (range 16-34). An anti-incontinence procedure had been done previously in 15% of cases. The success rate was 65.4% in patients with Valsalva leak-point pressure < 50 cmH2O and maximal urethral pressure < 30 cmH2O, but it was 90.6% in patients with Valsalva leak-point pressure 50 cmH2O or higher and maximal urethral pressure 30 cmH2O or more. Patients with Valsalva leak-point pressure 50 cmH2O or higher and maximal urethral pressure 30 cmH2O or more had a 90.6% success rate, and it was significantly higher than the success rate of patients with lower values for both parameters. We concluded that preoperative Valsalva leak-point pressure and maximal urethral pressure can be used to estimate the success rate of anterior vaginal wall sling procedures. When of these parameters are concurrently high, the outcome of surgery seems more favorable.

A 13-y-old male patient presented with acute urinary retention and bilateral lumbar pain. The routine laboratory tests were normal. Casoni's skin test and indirect haemagglutination assay (1/160) were positive. Evidence of hydatid disease was found during surgery. Histopathological examination confirmed hydatid disease in the surgical specimens.

Abstract
Urease-producing bacteria have been shown to affect the formation of infection stones by splitting urea into ammonia, bicarbonate and carbonate. An increase in alkaline pH results in urinary supersaturation of the ions. The increase in ammonia also causes injury to the urothelial glycosaminoglycan layer. Non-urease-producing bacteria have been speculated to form urinary stones. Midstream voided bladder urine and fractured stone nidus samples from 72 patients undergoing surgery for urolithiasis were cultured on specific media for genital mycoplasmata and on conventional media. Urine samples were obtained from a control group of 40 healthy subjects. Genital mycoplasmata and other bacteria were evaluated with regard to the composition of urinary stones. Compared with other origins of stones, the relation between isolation of Ureaplasma urealyticum and infection stone disease was statistically proven. Isolation of genital mycoplasmata was significantly higher in women than in men in the study group. The urinary stones comprised 84.7% calcium stones, 8.3% uric acid stones and 6.9% infection (magnesium ammonium phosphate) stones. Coagulase-negative Staphylococci, Escherichia coli, Corynebacterium spp., Enterobacterium spp. and U. urealyticum were cultured from stone samples. The results suggests that non-urease-producing bacteria, as well as urease-producing bacteria, may influence the formation of urinary stones.

In 174 cases of genitourinary tuberculosis diagnosed and treated in our clinic we evaluated, retrospectively, age and sex distributions, symptoms, physical and laboratory findings, primary focus, surgical and medical treatments. Flank pain and non-specific urinary complaints, e.g. dysuria, were the major symptoms. Although some authors prefer short-term medical therapy for the treatment of genitourinary tuberculosis, the relapse rate in our series after 12 months of therapy was 19% and we therefore suggest that therapy should be continued for at least 12 months. The poor nutritional status and social conditions characteristic of subjects from our region may, however, have influenced this high relapse rate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients diagnosis as penil fracture and treated with surgical methods were evaluated retrospectively between January 1990-February 2002. METHODS Patients were evaluated by age, trauma type, time passed after the trauma, physical examination and radiologic data. RESULTS The cause of trauma was blunt trauma in all patients. 14 trauma (60.8%) were during sexual activity, 6 trauma (26%) were during handling the erective penis in morning erection, 3 of trauma (13%) were due to the rolling on to the penis. Urethral bleeding was seen in 1 patient and microscopic hematuria was detected in 5 patients. Subcoronal circular incision was carried out in 16 patients (69.5%), semicircular incision was done directly on the injury in 6 patients (26%) and from penis radix to scrotum was done in 1 patient (4.3%). There was unilateral corpus cavernosum injury in 21 patients. Bilateral corpus cavernosum injury in 1 patient, corpuscavernosum, corpus spongiosum and incomplent urethral injury in 1 patient. Wound infection was detected only in 2 patients at postoperatively early period. After evaluating 20 patients with medical history and physical examination in postoperative control penil curvature permitting sexual activity was detected in 3 patients. CONCLUSION We concluded that patients with penil fracture may be treated with low complication rate by early surgical procedure.

Abstract
Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) produce a wide range of low molecular weight metabolites that include potent neurotoxins, hepatotoxins, and cytotoxins. The accumulation of such toxins in freshwaters, and in brackish and marine waters presents hazards to human and animal health by a range of exposure routes. A review is presented of developments in the detection and analysis of cyanobacterial toxins, other than bioassays, including application of physicochemical, immunoassays, and enzyme-based methods. Analytical requirements are considered with reference to recently derived guideline levels for the protection of health and to the availability, or otherwise, of purified, quantitative cyanobacterial toxin standards.

Abstract
Two new protein phosphatase inhibitors, oscillamide B (1) and C (2), were isolated from the cyanobacteria Planktothrix (Oscillatoria) agardhii and P. rubescens. The structures of the inhibitors were elucidated by analysis of HRFABMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra, and chemical degradation. These inhibitors are ureido-containing cyclic peptides and inhibited serine/threonine protein phosphatases PP1 and PP2A. The inhibitory activities were closely related to the Arg and N-Me-Hty residues in the peptides.

Abstract
A strain of Cylindrospermopsis (Cyanobacteria) isolated from a fishpond in Thailand was examined for its taxonomy based upon morphology and 16S rRNA gene sequence. It was also examined for production of the hepatotoxic cyanotoxin called cylindrospermopsin (CYN) and deoxycylindrospermopsin (deoxy-CYN). The strain (CY-Thai) was identified as C. raciborskii (Woloszynska) Seenaya and Subba Raju based upon morphological examination which was confirmed by 16S rRNA gene sequences and phylogenetic comparisons based upon its 16S rRNA gene. The alkaloid heptatotoxin CYN was confirmed using mouse bioassay, HPLC and HPLC-MS/MS while deoxy-CYN was confirmed using HPLC-MS/MS. The mouse bioassay gave a minimum lethal dose at 250mg dry weight cells/kg body weight within 24h and 125mg/kg at 72h, with signs of poisoning the same as in literature reports for CYN. HPLC chromatographic comparison of the CY-Thai toxin with standard CYN gave the same retention time and an absorbance maximum at 262nm. HPLC-MS/MS confirmed the presence of CYN (M+H 416) and deoxy-CYN (M+H 400). The CYN content in strain CY-Thai was estimated at 1.02mg/g and approximately 1/10 of this amount for deoxy-CYN. This is the first report from Asia of a CYN, deoxy-CYN producing Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii.

Abstract
[D-Leu1]Microcystin-LR was identified as the most abundant microcystin from a laboratory strain of the cyanobacterium Microcystis sp. isolated from a hepatotoxic Microcystis bloom from brackish waters in the Patos Lagoon estuary, southern Brazil. Toxicity of [D-Leu1]microcystin-LR, according to bioassay and protein phosphatase inhibition assay, was similar to that of the commonly-occurring microcystin-LR, which was not detectable in the Patos Lagoon laboratory isolate. This is the first report of a microcystin containing [D-Leu1] in the cyclic heptapeptide structure of these potent cyanobacterial toxins.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although all parts of the lung can be affected as a consequence of asbestos exposure, most CT protocols tend to scan only the middle and lower parts of the thorax. The aim of this study was to investigate parenchymal and pleural lesions of persons exposed to environmental asbestos, using a high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) protocol scanning the whole thorax. METHODS We analyzed the chest radiographs and HRCT scans of 26 patients who presented bilaterally with multiple pleural plaques related to environmental asbestos exposure. RESULTS Twenty-four cases (92%) had an abnormal HRCT suggestive of asbestosis. Apart from common HRCT changes related to asbestosis, we detected apical pleural thickening (APT) in 9 cases as well as a coarse honeycomb pattern adjacent to APT in 7 of these cases. Cavitary lesions due to pulmonary tuberculosis were observed on HRCT scans from 4 patients in total. Neither apical pulmonary fibrosis nor cavitary lesions were visible on chest radiographs. CONCLUSIONS We suggest that the HRCT protocol for examining asbestos-exposed individuals with pleural plaques on chest X-rays should include the whole thorax, since the asbestos-related pathologies may involve all parts of the lung.

Abstract
The cyanobacterium Nodularia PCC 7804, an axenic, non gas-vacuolate strain from a freshwater source, produces several metabolites with cyanobacterial hepatotoxin characteristics. The most abundant is a cyclic pentapeptide, [L-Homoarginine2]nodularin. [L-Har2]nodularin is of similar toxicity, in terms of bioassay in vivo, and the inhibition of protein phosphatase-1 in vitro to nodularin, which was present in lesser amounts in the cultures.

Abstract
A 73-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of vomiting. A fist-sized tumor with tenderness was palpated on his epigastric region. Fluoroscopic examination of the stomach showed narrow body and dilated antrum with intussusception. Endoscopic findings revealed fold convergence to the antrum. Intraoperatively, the body of the stomach was invaginated into the antrum with hepatoduodenal ligament. It was difficult to repair or resect, and a gastrojejunostomy was performed. On the 10th operative day, fluoroscopic examination of the stomach showed no intussusception of the stomach and no lesion in the upper gastrointestinal tract. To our knowledge, such cases of idiopathic intussusception of the stomach are rare.
