Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Diabetes mellitus, a widespread chronic illness, affects millions worldwide, and its incidence is increasing alarmingly, especially in developing nations. Current pharmacological treatments can be costly and have undesirable side effects. To address this, medicinal plants with antidiabetic effects, particularly targeting α-glucosidase for controlling hyperglycaemia in type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hold promise for drug development with reduced toxicity and adverse reactions. AIM OF THIS REVIEW This review aims to succinctly collect information about medicinal plant extracts that exhibit antidiabetic potential through α-glucosidase inhibition using acarbose as a standard reference in Southeast Asia. The characteristics of this inhibition are based on in vitro studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Relevant information on medicinal plants in Southeast Asia, along with α-glucosidase inhibition studies using acarbose as a positive control, was gathered from various scientific databases, including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. RESULTS About 49 papers were found from specific counties in Southeast Asia demonstrated notable α-glucosidase inhibitory potential of their medicinal plants, with several plant extracts showcasing activity comparable to or surpassing that of acarbose. Notably, 19 active constituents were identified for their α-glucosidase inhibitory effects. CONCLUSIONS The findings underscore the antidiabetic potential of the tested medicinal plant extracts, indicating their promise as alternative treatments for T2DM. This review can aid in the development of potent therapeutic medicines with increased effectiveness and safety for the treatment of T2DM.

Abstract
The repercussions of climate change have profound implications for human health, leading to the emergence of climate-related diseases. Recognizing this, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Indonesia has established the Climate Village Program to tackle and mitigate the impact of climate change. Despite the implementation of this program, Larangan Village in Candi Sub-district, Sidoarjo Regency, continues to struggle with cases of climate-related diseases. This research aims to assess the impact of waste management on the prevalence of climate-related diseases in Larangan Village. Using a quantitative, analytical, observational approach with a cross-sectional design, the study concentrates on two neighborhoods within Larangan Village. The population consists of 330 families in the 2nd neighborhood (Non-Climate Village Program) and 344 families in the 9th neighborhood (Climate Village Program), with a sample size of 109. The variables under investigation encompass waste management and climate-related diseases. Data collection involves conducting interviews and distributing questionnaires among community members in both neighborhoods. The collected data undergo analysis using Multigroup Analysis SEM PLS with a significance level of 0.05. The findings reveal a significant negative correlation between waste management and climate-related diseases, suggesting that enhanced waste management is linked to a reduced incidence of such diseases in the community.

Abstract
Introduction. The pneumonia pattern in young children may vary across different catchment areas. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the predictive factors for toddlers with an Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) developing into pneumonia in the catchment area of Banjar Regency, Indonesia. Methods. A case-control design, with 300 respondents, consisting of 106 cases and 194 controls. A questionnaire of interviews with mothers/caregivers of toddlers. Forty-one indicators data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression with backward stepwise regression to arrive at the final model. Results. The predictive factors for toddlers with pneumonia were the child's age (P-value .070), child development (P-value .007), breastfeeding (P-value .051), family income (P-value .026), and location of houses along the river (P-value .025). Conclusion. A prediction index for toddler pneumonia has been compiled, which can be applied to improve the health of lower middle-class toddlers requiring more government attention.

Abstract
CONTEXT Bauhinia purpurea L. (Fabaceae) is used in the Ayurvedic system to treat various oxidative-related ailments (e.g., wounds, ulcers etc.). Therefore, it is believed that the plant also has the potential to alleviate oxidative-related liver damage. OBJECTIVE This study elucidates the hepatoprotective activity of chloroform extract of B. purpurea leaves (CEBP) in paracetamol (PCM)-induced liver injury (PILI) rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 6) were pre-treated once daily (p.o.) with CEBP (50-500 mg/kg) for seven consecutive days before being administered (p.o.) a hepatotoxic agent, 3 g/kg PCM. Liver enzyme levels were determined from the collected blood, while the collected liver was used to determine the activity of endogenous antioxidant enzymes and for histopathological examination. CEBP was also subjected to radical scavenging assays and phytochemical analysis. RESULTS CEBP significantly (p < 0.05) reversed the toxic effect of PCM by increasing the serum levels of AST and ALT, and the activity of endogenous catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) while reducing the liver weight/body weight (LW/BW) ratio. Other than low TPC value and radical scavenging activity, CEBP had a high antioxidant capacity when evaluated using the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. UHPLC-ESI-MS analysis of CEBP showed the presence of flavonoids. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS CEBP exerts its hepatoprotective activity through a non-free radical scavenging pathway that involves activation of the endogenous enzymatic antioxidant defense system. Further study is needed to identify the responsible bioactive compounds before the plant can be developed as a future alternative hepatoprotective medicament for clinical use.

Abstract
PURPOSE Low-density polyethylene microplastics are ingested into the bloodstream and distributed to all the organ tissue, including the hippocampus, causing toxic effects. This research aimed to elucidate the responses of hippocampal neurons to microplastic in the blood based on the expressions of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) enzymes, malondialdehyde (MDA), 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in hippocampal neurons, and blood serum amyloid beta 1-42 (Aβ42) levels using SMART PLS pathway analysis. METHODS This was a pure experimental research on Wistar rats with a post-test control group design. Five experimental groups (X1, X2, X3, X4, X5) were given 0.0375 mg, 0.075 mg, 0.15 mg, 0.3 mg, and 0.6 mg of low-density polyethylene microplastics mixed in 2cc distilled water, respectively. Furthermore, except for control (C), the groups received microplastics an oral probe for 90 days. RESULTS The molecular response of hippocampal neurons of Wistar rats to microplastics in the blood significantly decreased SOD enzyme expression, while CAT enzyme was unaffected. It considerably increased neuronal membrane damage (expression of MDA), increased considerably neuronal deoxyribonucleic acid damage (expression of 8-OHdG), and decreased blood serum Aβ42 levels (pathway analysis, all t-value >1.96). CONCLUSION The pathway analysis showed that hippocampal neurons were significantly affected by microplastic particles in the blood.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of the study was to analyze the risk factors of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in children under five in Indonesia and the Philippines and to implement a primary review of the characteristics of toddlers and their households in both countries. METHODS Data were obtained from the 2017 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) of Indonesia and the Philippines. The characteristics of children, mothers, and households were analyzed using bivariate and multivariate logistic regression to examine the significant correlations between variables. RESULTS The percentage of children under five with ARI symptoms in 2017 was 1.51% in the Philippines and 4.22% in Indonesia. In Indonesia, males aged under one year had significantly lower occurrences of ARI symptoms (OR 0.54, 95% CI 0.36-0.82). In the Philippines, dirty cooking fuels had a significant effect on increasing the likelihood of ARI in female toddlers (OR 4.01, 95% CI 1.02-15.83). In the Philippines, the unavailability of toilet facilities had a significant effect on increasing the likelihood of ARI in male toddlers (OR 2.67, 95% CI 1.15-6.16). CONCLUSION The comparison of risk factors between male and female toddlers revealed different results in some variables, as follows: children aged under one year, dirty cooking fuels, and unavailable toilet facilities. The role of parents is fundamental in taking care of female toddlers, since they are more exposed to ARI at the age of under one year and are more prone to indoor air pollution from solid cooking fuels.

Abstract
Air pollution was being a very important problem and danger for human life. This was related to diseases that arise due to motor vehicle emissions, especially carbon monoxide. Simulation of air dispersion models is the one way to study about air quality that is needed in this regard. This study aims to determine the distribution of carbon monoxide pollutants in Ahmad Yani's frontage and to anticipate the dangers of these pollutants to the health of the people living around the research location. This research discussed about the mathematical model of the dispersion of CO that emitted from cars that passed through the frontage road on the Ahmad Yani Street, Surabaya. The method used is direct observation in the field and numerical simulation using a mathematical model, Gaussian Line Source Equation Model (GLSEM). GLSEM had prepared based on the mechanism of transport of pollutants in dispersion, diffusion and advection. With GLSEM we calculated CO gas concentration values for certain heights downwind. We validated the model by comparing numerical results and measurements of CO concentration. We used the R2 test and we got an R2 close to one. We simulated GLSEM by used Fortran programming language and visualized it with Surfer. The results of the visualization in June showed that the pattern of CO gas dispersion was influenced by the direction and speed of the wind. The results obtained are that the distribution of CO pollutants in the Ahmad Yani frontage is horizontal/downwind. CO concentrations at night are higher than during the daytime. From the CO dispersion pattern, we had known that there were dangerous of air around the frontage for people health. We conclude that around the frontage road of the Ahmad Yani highway there is sufficient open air space so that the danger of CO pollutants being emitted can be minimized so that the health of the community, namely pedestrians, motorcycle drivers and the community around the location can be protected.

Abstract
Introduction. The morbidity and mortality rate of Acute
Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) in children under 5 is relatively high in
Indonesia. Socio-demographic characteristic is considered one of the factors
causing ARI in Indonesia. However, no study analyzed the prevalence of ARI among
toddlers and the differences among the determinant factors in multiple periods.
Thus, this study aimed to analyze the prevalence trends and determinant factors
associated with ARI symptoms in children under 5 in Indonesia in 2007, 2012, and
2017. Methods. This study analyzed cross-sectional survey data
from the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) in Indonesia during 2007, 2012, and
2017. Bivariate and multivariate analysis with logistic regression was performed
using Stata version 15. The final results were expressed in Adjusted Odds Ratio
(AORs) and 95% Confidence Interval (CI). Results. The findings
showed a progress in prevalence trends with a decrease in the percentage of
children with ARI symptoms from 11.25% (2007), then 5.12% (2012) to 4.22%
(2017). Risk factors for toddlers experiencing ARI symptoms were as follows:
younger maternal age (OR: 1.13, 95% Cl 0.70-1.81 in 2007, OR: 1.72, 95% Cl
1.03-2.88 in 2012 and OR: 0.98, 95% Cl 0.48-1.97 in 2017), smoking habits of
family members (OR: 1.12, 95% Cl 0.85-1.48 in 2012, OR: 1.23, 95% Cl in 2017),
poor drinking water quality (OR: 1.12, 95% Cl 0.85-1.48 in 2012 and OR: 1.23,
95% Cl in 2017), unavailable toilet facilities (OR: 1.27, 95% Cl 1.04-1.56 in
2007, OR: 1.24, 95% Cl 0.95-1.63 in 2012 and OR: 1.28, 95% Cl 0.97-1.68 in
2017). Conclusion. There was a decrease in the prevalence of
ARI symptoms among children in 2007, 2012, and 2017, with no prominent
differences in other related factors. The lifestyle and household environmental
factors such as the use of dirty fuel, the presence of smokers in the household,
the poor quality of drinking water, unavailable toilet facilities in addition to
the maternal age and child age were the determinant factors that must be
prioritized and improved. Family self-awareness should also be enhanced for
better prospects for toddler survival.

Abstract
Background Associations of acute glycemic complications with season and ambient temperature have been reported in general population with diabetes. However, little is known about the risks of acute glycemic complications in relation to season and ambient temperature in pregnant women, who are likely to be even more vulnerable. This work aimed to investigate the associations of season and ambient temperature with pregnancies complicated with hyperglycemia emergency or severe hypoglycemia. Methods Two separate case-control studies were nested within 150,153 pregnancies by women with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes between 2009 and 2014 in Taiwan. Hyperglycemia emergency (mainly diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state) and severe hypoglycemia occurred in 77 and 153 diabetic pregnancies (cases), respectively. Ten control pregnancies were randomly selected for each case by matching each case pregnancy on type of diabetes (i.e., T1DM, T2DM, or GDM), maternal age on the date of acute glycemic complication occurrence (i.e., index date), and “length of gestation at risk” (i.e., period between conception and index date). Meteorological parameters were retrieved from 542 meteorological monitoring stations across Taiwan during 2008–2014. Conditional logistic regression analysis with generalized estimation equation was separately performed to estimate the covariate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of each of the two acute glycemic complications in association with season and ambient temperature within 30 days prior to the index date. Results Compared to summer, winter season was associated with a significantly elevated risk of severe hypoglycemia with an OR of 1.74 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.08–2.79). The OR of hyperglycemic emergency was also elevated in winter season at OR of 1.88, but the significance is only marginal (95% CI 0.97–3.64, p = 0.0598). Subgroup analyses further noted that such seasonal variation was also observed in pregnancies with pre-pregnancy type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes. On the other hand, ambient temperature was not significantly associated with the two acute glycemic complications. Conclusions A moderately but significantly elevated risk of severe hypoglycemia was found in pregnant women with diabetes during winter season, and such increased risk was more evident in pregnancies with T1DM. Abstract
Introduction: Industry is a place where many individuals work. In the industrial field, one can do work by utilizing. However, high-tech applications can cause noise in industrial areas. The discomfort of this sound may indirectly pose a risk of health problems, including hearing loss. Methods: The method used in this study was a literature review study with an in-depth review of the articles through an electronic article data base with the keywords noise, hearing loss, and industrial workers. Then, a screening was carried out based on articles that have been published in a period of five years, and the sorting of articles was conducted according to the inclusion criteria, namely primary data research with cross sectional design, not descriptive research. Results: The journal research phase resulted in up to 101 papers, with 51 papers screened under pre-determined conditions. Then, sorting based on inclusion criteria resulted in 28 items. Finally, as many as 11 relevant articles and the full text were obtained as a result. Based on the review of the article, it is known that hearing loss that occurs among industrial workers is influenced by several problems in the industry such as the absence of noise measurements, the absence of ear health checks for workers, and the unavailability of ear protection equipment. Conclusion: Based on the review of the articles, it is known that hearing loss is caused by high noise levels. Besides, there are other factors that can affect hearing loss in workers such as age, working period, use of ear protection equipment, and a history of ear disease.Keywords: hearing loss, industry, literature review, noise

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the level of and covariates associated with ambient air pollution health literacy (AAPHL) among adult residents of Taiwan. METHODS With a cross-sectional study design, we conducted telephone interviews using a Chinese version AAPHL scale, which consisted of 24 items assessing 12 subdomains of AAPHL formed by 4 information processing competence matrices (i.e., access, understand, appraise, and apply) and 3 health contexts (i.e., healthcare, disease prevention, and health promotion). The AAPHL was with the lowest and highest score at 1 to 4, respectively. Between September and November 2020, a sample of 1017 and 280 adults was successfully interviewed via home phones and mobile phones, respectively. We employed multiple linear regression models to identify covariates significantly associated with overall and 4 matric-specific AAPHL scores. RESULTS The mean and standard deviation (±SD) of overall AAPHL score was considered as moderate at 2.90 (±0.56), with the highest and lowest metric-specific score for "apply" (3.07 ± 0.59) and "appraise" (2.75 ± 0.66). Lower education was significantly associated with a lower overall score; and living with children < 12 years and single were both significantly associated with higher overall scores. We also noted a significant geographic variation in overall score in which people living in the east/remote islands had highest scores. CONCLUSIONS People in Taiwan had only moderate level of AAPHL; and covariates including education, living arrangement, marital status, and area of living were significantly associated with AAPHL. These covariates should be considered in future educational interventions aiming to improve the AAPHL in the community.

Chemicals that contain organic solvents are ink, glue, and others. Workers who are regularly exposed to organic solvents can have health complaints. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between workers’ characteristics and health complaints due to exposure to organic solvents in the Sidoarjo offset printing. Methods: This research was an observational study with cross sectional design. Population in this research was 30 workers. The sampling technique used simple random sampling and from the calculation results were obtained 24 respondents. This study had an independent variable, which was workers’ characteristics consisting of age, smoking habits, and work tenure. The dependent variable was health complaints of printing workers. Data collection used questionnaires and interviews. The research data were analyzed using fisher’s exact test to show the correlation between workers’ characteristics and health complaints. Results: The result of the analysis test found that there was no correlation between age (p=0.386) and smoking habits (p=0.376) with health complaints of workers. Moreover, the analysis test showed that work tenure variable had a correlation with health complaints of workers (p=0.041). Conclusion: A factor related to health complaints of workers was work tenure.Keywords: health complaints, organic solvents, worker characteristics

Abstract
Introduction Water-soluble, but not lipid-soluble, extract of Dicranopteris linearis leaves has been proven to possess hepatoprotective activity. The present study aimed to validate the hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities, and phytoconstituents of lipid-soluble (chloroform) extract of D. linearis leaves. Methods The extract of D. linearis leaves (CEDL; 50, 250 and 500 mg/kg) was orally administered to rats for 7 consecutive days followed by the oral administration of 3 g/kg PCM to induce liver injury. Blood was collected for liver function analysis while the liver was obtained for histopathological examination and endogenous antioxidant activity determination. The extract was also subjected to antioxidant evaluation and phytochemicals determination via phytochemical screening, HPLC and UPLC-HRMS analyses. Results CEDL exerted significant (p < 0.05) hepatoprotective activity at 250 and 500 mg/kg and significantly (p < 0.05) reversed the PCM-induced decrease in rat’s liver endogenous antioxidant (catalase and superoxide dismutase) level. CEDL possessed a high antioxidant capacity when measured using the ORAC assay, but a low total phenolic content value and radical scavenging activity as confirmed via several radical scavenging assays, which might be attributed particularly to the presence of triterpenes. Phytochemicals screening demonstrated the presence of triterpenes and flavonoids, while UPLC-HRMS analysis showed the presence of polyphenols belonging to the hydroxybenzoic acids, hydroxycinammates and flavonoid groups. Discussion and conclusion Lipid-soluble bioactive compounds of CEDL demonstrated hepatoprotective effect against PCM intoxication partly via the modulation of the endogenous antioxidant defense system, and exerted high antioxidant capacity. Further investigation is warranted to identify the potential hepatoprotective leads from CEDL for future drug development.

Abstract
Piper betle L var Nigra (black betel) is a member of Piperaceae family which has potential as medicinal plant due to its secondary metabolites. Callus culture is one of the alternative methods to elevate production of secondary metabolites. This study was aimed to determine the effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 6-benzil aminopurine (BAP) towards callus induction and growth, also to determine the most optimal variation of 2,4-D and BAP concentration for callus induction of black betel leaf explant. This study was a laboratory experimental study with complete randomized design. Black betel leaf explant was planted in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2,4-D and BAP growth regulators at concentration of 0.0 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, 1.0 mg/L, 1.5 mg/L, 2.0 mg/L respectively. Parameter recorded for callus induction and growth including callus induction time (days), percentage of explant forming callus, fresh weight, dry weight, color and texture. After callus planted for 8 weeks, analysis was performed statistically. Result showed that 2,4-D and BAP supplementation to medium affected the growth of black bete l leaf explants. Additional concentration of 0.5 mg/L 2,4-D and 1.0 mg/L BAP growth regulators showed the fastest response in callus formation, at 7.25 days. Growth regulators of 2,4-D 0.5 mg/L and BAP 2.0 mg/L concentration produced the highest fresh and dry weight, at 0.6802 g and 0.0670 g respectively. The best treatment was used as a basis to produce secondary metabolites.

Abstract
Diseases that can be caused by environmental factors one of which is tuberculosis (TB). TB is an infectious disease that most often affects the lung tissue by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Based on the observation of the condition of the settlement in the district Mulyorejo very crowded and poor sanitation, it may result in environmentally based disease is pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). This study was an observational study, the design of the study is a case-control study. Analysis of the data used are seeing the value OR. The sample was taken by purposive sampling with a sample size of 5 houses pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 10 home instead of pulmonary tuberculosis patients. The collection of data by observation sheet, physical measurements of air quality, and air sampling using Haz-Dust EPAM-5000 models, then dust samples were sent to the Institute of Tropical Disease Airlangga University for examination Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria in the air by PCR Aerosol. The results showed Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the air is a risk factor for pulmonary tuberculosis (OR = 2.667) and the physical condition of the house is a risk factor for pulmonary tuberculosis (OR = 2.667). People should improve the physical condition of the house, particularly the addition of mechanical ventilation to facilitate air circulation. For a house whose walls are attached to the neighboring wall can make the air vent on the roof, for further research using more samples to determine the factors that cause Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the home of respondents both patients and non-sufferers.Keywords:physical condition of the home, lung tuberculosis (TB), Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Abstract
Latar belakang. Faktor higiene perorangan yang baik merupakan faktor yang dapat mencegah penularan kusta. Penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara higiene perorangan dengan kejadian kusta. Kasus kusta anak merupakan indikasi masih adanya penularan aktif di masyarakat.Tujuan. Menganalisis hubungan antara aspek higiene perorangan anak yang meliputi kebersihan badan dan rambut, kebersihan tempat tidur dan kebersihan handuk dengan kejadian kusta anak di Kabupaten Pasuruan tahun 2014-2015.Metode. Penelitian analitik observasional dengan desain kasus kontrol dilakukan selama bulan Maret-Juni 2016 dengan sampel kasus dan kontrol masing-masing 16 sampel di Kabupaten Pasuruan.Hasil. Kebersihan badan dan rambut anak yang kurang baik merupakan faktor risiko penularan kusta anak di Kabupaten Pasuruan tahun 2014-2015 (OR: 5,000; IK95% 1,096-22,820). Kebersihan handuk yang kurang baik merupakan faktor risiko penularan kusta anak tahun 2014-2015 (OR:11,667; IK95% 1,227-110,953. Kebersihan tempat tidur bukan merupakan faktor risiko penularankusta anak di Kabupaten Pasuruan tahun 2014-2015.
