Abstract
Introduction The antipsychotic dosage of Chinese schizophrenia patients has rarely been studied, although nonstandard dosage has impact on prognosis. Objectives To describe the dosage of antipsychotics in China routine practice. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study using de-identified data from a Chinese mental health hospital. The included patients were adults (≥18 years) with at least one diagnosis of schizophrenia (ICD-10: F20) and one prescription of any antipsychotic between 2014 and 2019. Date of first identified antipsychotic prescription was defined as index date, patients were followed up until last prescription of antipsychotics, end of 2019, or discontinuation (>60 days without antipsychotic prescription), whichever was earliest. Dosage was summarized using defined daily dose (DDD), calculated by cumulative average daily dose (CAD) with a unit of DDDs/day, i.e., total DDDs of all antipsychotics in follow-up period divided by total days of follow-up. CAD was categorized into low (<0.5 DDDs/day), moderate (0.5-1.5 DDDs/day), and high (>1.5 DDDs/day) groups. Results 13554 patients were included with an average follow-up of 269.9 days. Median CAD was 0.8 DDDs/day (IQR=0.5-1.3), patients with hospitalization during follow-up and used multiple antipsychotics at the same time had larger median CAD, 1.0 DDDs/day and 1.2 DDDs/days, respectively. There were 3245 (23.9%), 7627 (56.3%), and 2682 (19.8%) patients in low, moderate, and high groups, respectively. The median CAD of high dosage group was 2.5 DDDs/day (IQR=1.9-10.5). Conclusions CAD of most Chinese schizophrenia patients was low or moderate. Association between CAD and hospitalization and multiple concurrent antipsychotics merit further research.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the associations of indoor fine particulate matter (PM(2.5)) from outdoor and indoor sources with heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) of Beijing. Methods: A total of 40 male patients in a stable stage of COPD were recruited from a hospital in a panel study in Beijing with 5 consecutive days of measurement for each subject. General information and disease history of the participants from questionnaires were obtained prior to the study. HR and HRV were repeatedly examined using dynamic electrocardiograph. HRV included standard deviation of all NN intervals (SDNN), root mean square of successive differences between adjacent NN intervals (rMSSD), total power (TP) power in the low-frequency band (LF) and the high-frequency band (HF). Iron was used as tracer element to separate indoor-originated PM(2.5) and outdoor-originated PM(2.5). Mixed-effect models were applied to assess the associations of outdoor-originated PM(2.5) or indoor-originated PM(2.5) and health effects. Results: The P(50) (P(25), P(75)) values of daily indoor PM(2.5), indoor-originated PM(2.5) and outdoor-originated PM(2.5) were 50.9 (26.8, 122.7), 16.0 (1.9, 43.7) and 27.3 (13.5, 61.8) μg/m(3), respectively. The mean±SD of concentrations of real-time indoor PM(2.5), indoor-originated PM(2.5) and outdoor-originated PM(2).5 were (61.5±58.8), (25.3±39.1) and (36.2±42.7) μg/m(3), respectively. Compared with outdoor-originated PM(2.5), indoor-originated PM(2.5) had significant associations with HRV and HR. Each 10 μg/m(3) increase at 4 h indoor-originated PM(2.5) and outdoor-originated PM(2.5) moving average was associated with 3.4% (95%CI: -4.7%, -2.1%) and 0.6% (95%CI: -2.0%, -0.8%) reduction in TP (P<0.001). Each 10 μg/m(3) increase at 12 h indoor-originated PM(2.5) moving average was associated with 7.6% (95%CI: -10.1%, -5.1%), 4.7% (95%CI: -6.7%, -2.7%), 3.3% (95%CI: -4.2%,-2.4%) and 3.0% (95%CI: -4.5%, -1.5%) reduction in HF, LF, SDNN and rMSSD, respectively. Each 10 μg/m(3) increase at 12 h outdoor-originated PM(2.5) moving average was associated with 0.7% (95%CI: -2.7%, -1.4%), 0.2% (95%CI: -1.9%, 1.4%), 0.7% (95%CI: -1.4%, -0.1%) and 0.2% (95%CI: -1.3%, 0.9%) reduction in HF, LF, SDNN and rMSSD, respectively (P<0.001). Each 10 μg/m(3) increase at 8 h indoor-originated PM(2.5) and outdoor-originated PM(2.5) moving average was associated with 0.7% (95%CI: 0.4%, 1.0%) and 0.4% (95%CI: 0.2%, 0.6%) increase in HR. Conclusion: Exposure to indoor-originated PM(2.5) was more strongly associations with HRV indices and HR compared with outdoor-originated PM(2.5) in male COPD patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the effect of domestic high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) purifiers on the concentrations of indoor fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and its elementary constituents in 20 residences in a district of Beijing during winter. METHODS From November 2015 to January 2016, 20 residences in a district of Beijing were selected, where indoor and outdoor PM2.5 data were collected simultaneously in three time periods according to the operating of air purifiers (Group 0 h: 24 hours before operating; Group 24 h: 24 hours after operating; Group 48 h: 24 to 48 hours after operating). The content of 21 elements in PM2.5 samples were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Indoor/outdoor particle concentration ratio (I/O ratios) and ΔI/O ratios were used to describe the pollution levels and the variation range of PM2.5 and its 21 elementary constituents. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measurement data was applied to compare the I/O ratios of PM2.5 and its elementary constituents among the different groups, and Bonferroni method was used for comparison in pairs. Wilcoxon signed rank test for paired-samples was used to compare ΔI/O ratios of 21 elementary constituents with that of PM2.5. RESULTS The median I/O ratios of PM2.5 in the three groups were 1.27 (P25-P75: 0.50-2.68), 0.45 (P25-P75: 0.27-1.03) and 0.36 (P25-P75: 0.28-2.48), respectively. Compared with Group 0 h, the I/O ratios of PM2.5 in Group 24 h (P=0.042) and Group 48 h (P=0.006) decreased significantly. However, there was no significant difference between Group 24 h and Group 48 h. Significant differences were found comparing ΔI/O ratios of aluminium, ferrum and titanium to that of PM2.5, in both Group 24 h and Group 48 h (P<0.05). No significant change was found in the I/O ratios of these three elements among the three groups before and after air purifier operating (P>0.05). Distances from residences to traffic arteries could affect I/O ratios of some elements from traffic-related source (P<0.05). CONCLUSION Domestic HEPA air purifiers could effectively reduce indoor PM2.5 concentration, and the pollution level of PM2.5 tend to be stable after the purifier operating for a time. The purifiers had different effects on different elements, among which most showed statistical significances.

Abstract
The potential toxicity of dietary soy trypsin inhibitor (TI) was evaluated in neonatal miniature swine. From 1 to 6 weeks of age, two groups of male piglets were artificially reared in an Autosow and automatically fed either TI or control liquid diet. From 6 to 39 weeks of age, these two groups were fed either TI or control chow diet. A third group, sow control (SC), suckled from birth to 6 weeks of age, were also weaned to control chow from 6 to 39 weeks of age. Clinical chemistry and plasma cholecystokinin (CCK) determined at 6, 18, 30 and 39 weeks of age, and serum amylase activity with gross and histopathological analyses of major organs at 6 and 39 weeks of age are reported. TI had no effect on plasma CCK, serum amylase activity, or numerous clinical chemistry values. TI-fed piglets had a larger relative liver weight at 6 weeks of age. Relative pancreas weight decreased with age but was not affected by TI. Gross and histopathological analyses of major organs, except the spleen, were within normal limits. Increased incidence of extramedullary hematopoiesis was noted in the spleen of the TI group at 6 but not at 39 weeks of age. There was no consistent pattern in immunohistochemical foci for secretin, gastrin releasing polypeptide or CCK, and no change in DNA, RNA, mitotic index or nuclear density of pancreatic cells. At 6 weeks of age, TI increased pancreatic protein and amylase activity but not trypsin or chymotrypsin activity. None of the effects suggested that this dose of TI was toxic to either the neonatal or sexually mature miniature male swine.

Abstract
In order to improve the curative effects of laryngotracheal stenosis, 261 patients treated for laryngotracheal stenosis during the last twenty years were retrospectively reviewed. Glottic reconstruction, fence-form laryngotracheal reconstruction and laryngotracheotomy with autogenous tissue or hydroxylapatite rings were selectively used for one-stage reconstruction. Our results demonstrated that among 261 patients, 9 failed in decannulation, 5 were lost for follow-up, 247 (94.6%) patients were successfully decannulated. Among 192 patients followed-up from 1 to 18 years, 4 had restenosis 3 years after operation, 3 were successfully retreated and 10 failed. 182 (94.7%) patients had stable airways. It is concluded that there was no fixed treatment for laryngotracheal stenosis. The choice of surgical procedure and grafting must be decided on the pathologic condition of the larynx and trachea. The advantages of fence-form laryngotracheal reconstruction are simple technique and good result. Reconstruction with combined bipedicled myocutaneous flap and costal cartilage or artificial materials are better for severe laryngotracheal stenosis and large tracheal defect. The usage of stent is important for laryngotracheal reconstraction.

Abstract
Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a potent inhibitor of Leydig cell function. We have reported that IL-1 inhibited hCG-induced cAMP and testosterone formation. In the present study we evaluated the effect of IL-1 on Leydig cell cholesterol side-chain cleavage cytochrome P450 (P450scc) mRNA levels. P450scc is the rate-limiting enzyme for Leydig cell steroidogenesis. Highly purified Leydig cells were prepared from adult Sprague-Dawley male rats (55-65 day-old) using the combination of elutriation and Percoll gradient. Purified Leydig cells were then cultured with or without IL-1 beta (1-100 ng/ml) and recombinant human monocyte-derived IL-1 receptor antagonist (250 ng/ml) for 24 h. hCG (10 ng/ml), 8-bromo-cAMP (0.1 mM), or 4 beta-phorbol 12 beta-myristate 13 alpha-acetate was then added, and cultures were continued for an additional 6 h. P450scc mRNA levels of Leydig cells were very low to undetectable after 24 h in culture and could be stimulated by the addition of either hCG (10 ng/ml) or 8-bromo-cAMP (0.1 mM), but the addition of 4 beta-phorbol 12 beta-myristate 13 alpha-acetate had no effect. P450scc mRNA levels increased as early as 2 h after the addition of hCG. Furthermore, cycloheximide (1 microgram/ml) markedly blocked hCG-induced P450scc mRNA expression. This indicates that synthesis of a labile new protein(s) is required for the induction of P450scc mRNA by hCG. IL-1 beta inhibited hCG-stimulated testosterone formation and P450scc mRNA expression in a dose-dependent manner. The inhibitory effects of IL-1 beta could be reversed by the concomitant addition of IL-1 receptor antagonist. Our results suggest that P450scc mRNA levels of Leydig cells are modulated by IL-1. This may be one mechanism that could explain the inhibitory effects of IL-1 on Leydig cell steroidogenesis.

Abstract
Previously we have reported that interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a potent inhibitor of Leydig cell function. Most recently, IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) has been purified, sequenced and cloned. In the present study, we evaluated the recombinant monocyte-derived IL-1ra on the inhibitory effects of IL-1. The addition of recombinant human IL-1ra up to 1000 ng/ml has no discernible effects on human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)-stimulated testosterone formation in primary cultures of rat Leydig cells. Similar to that reported previously, IL-1 beta caused a dose-dependent inhibition of hCG-induced testosterone. The inhibitory effect of IL-1 beta could be reversed by the concomitant addition of IL-1ra. The amounts of IL-1ra required to reverse the effect of IL-1 were 25-fold higher. Our results suggest that IL-1 is important in modulating Leydig cell function and its effect most likely is mediated by specific IL-1 receptors.

Abstract
In the present study, we evaluated insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) messenger RNA expression in the rat testis. Crude interstitial cells were separated into three distinct bands on 15-60% Percoll density gradients. IGF-I mRNA was mainly localized in the Leydig cell-enriched fraction (band 3), while band 1 and band 2 cells did not contain significant amounts of IGF-I mRNA. Leydig cell IGF-I mRNA consisted of multiple species varying from 0.8 to 7.5 kb and was present in rat Leydig cells all ages examined, from 25 to 55 days old. To further document that IGF-I mRNAs are present in Leydig cells, the method of Klinefelter et al. (Biol. Reprod. (1987) 36, 769-783) was used to isolate highly purified (greater than 98% pure) Leydig cells. Most of the IGF-I mRNA was localized in these Leydig cells, while there was no detectable IGF-I mRNA in the whole testis or other interstitial cells. Furthermore, IGF-I mRNA in Leydig cells was increased more than 2-fold by growth hormone (GH) administration in vivo. This suggests that IGF-I mRNA in Leydig cells is also GH dependent. Interstitial IGF-I produced in Leydig cells may have both autocrine and paracrine effects in the testis.

Abstract
A microbial competitive receptor assay for detecting residues of antibiotic families in milk was studied collaboratively by 13 laboratories. The drugs and levels (ppb) tested in this study include penicillin G, 4.8; cephapirin, 5.0; cloxacillin, 100; tetracycline, 2000; chlortetracycline, 2000; oxytetracycline, 2000; erythromycin, 200; lincomycin, 400; clindamycin, 400; sulfamethazine, 75; sulfamethoxazole, 50; sulfisoxazole, 50; streptomycin, 1000; novobiocin, 50; and chloramphenicol, 800. In this method, microbial cells added to a milk sample provide specific binding sites for which 14C or 3H labeled drug competes with drug residues in the sample. The 14C or 3H binding to the specific binding sites is measured in a scintillation counter and compared with a zero standard milk. If the sample is statistically different from the zero standard, it is positive. The assay takes about 15 min. The binding reaction occurs between the receptor site and the drug functional group, so all members of a drug family are detected. In this case, beta-lactams, tetracyclines, macrolides, aminoglycosides, novobiocin, chloramphenicol, and sulfonamides, including p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and its other analogs, are detectable. The incidence of false negative determinations among samples is about 1%; the incidence of false positives is about 3%. For negative cases, the relative standard deviations for repeatability ranged from 0 to 5% and for reproducibility from 0 to 6%.
