FEM simulations for double diffusive transport mechanism hybrid nano fluid flow in corrugated enclosure by installing uniformly heated and concentrated cylinder

Generation of fluid flow due to simultaneous occurrence of heat and mass diffusions caused by buoyancy differences is termed as double diffusion. Pervasive applications of such diffusion arise in numerous natural and scientific systems. This article investigates double diffusion in naturally convective flow of water-based fluid saturated in corrugated enclosure and containing hybrid nano particles composed of Copper (Cu) and Alumina (Al2O3). Impact of uniformly applied magnetic field is also accounted. To produce thermosolutal convective potential circular cylinder of constant radius is also adjusted by providing uniform temperature and concentration distributions. Finite element approach is capitalized to provide solution of utilized governing equations by utilizing Multiphysics COMSOL software. Wide-range of physical parameters are incorporated to depict their influence on associated distributions (velocity, temperature and concentration). Interesting physical quantities like Nusselt number, Sherwood numbers are also calculated against involved sundry parameters. It is note worthily observed that maximum strength of stream lines [Formula: see text] is 3.3 at [Formula: see text] and drops to 1.2 when [Formula: see text] is increased to 0.04. Furthermore, in the hydrodynamic case (Ha = 0), it is observed that the velocity field exhibits an increasing trend compared to the hydromagnetic case [Formula: see text] which is proved from the attained values of stream-function i.e., [Formula: see text] (in the absence of a magnetic field) and [Formula: see text] (in the presence of a magnetic field). It is revealed from the statistics of Nusselt number that increase in volume fraction of nano particles from 0 to 0.4, heat flux coefficient upsurges up to 7% approximately. Since, present work includes novel physical aspects of thermosolutal diffusion generated due to induction of hybrid nanoparticles in water contained in corrugated enclosure, so this study will provide innovative thought to the researchers to conduct research in this direction.

Significance of induced hybridized metallic and non-metallic nanoparticles in single-phase nano liquid flow between permeable disks by analyzing shape factor

The current communication is designed by keeping in the mind high heat transfer capabilities of nanoliquids with the dispersion of diversified-natured nanoparticles in poorly conducting base liquids. Here, an amalgamation of metallic (Cu) and hybridization of metallic and non-metallic oxide (Cu-TiO₂) nanoparticles to uplift thermophysical attributes of water is deliberated. The magnetically affected flow between rotating disks under the impact and permeability aspect is assumed. Empirical relations for effective dynamic viscosity, density, and heat capacitance to show mesmerizing features of obliged nanoparticles are also expressed. In addition, mathematical relations also depend on morphological factors like shape, size, and diameter of inducted nanoparticles. The mathematical formulation of the problem is conceded in the form of a system of ODEs after using similarity transformation on dimensional PDEs. Simulations of the complex coupled differential structure are solved by using a numerical approach by employing shooting and Runge–Kutta procedures jointly. The impact of flow concerning variables on associated distributions is revealed through tabular and graphical manner. Quantities of engineering interest associated with work like wall friction and thermal flux coefficients at walls of the disk are also calculated. It is deduced from an examination that the addition of metallic particles raises heat transfer more than non-metallic particles. A significant impression of magnetic field on shear stress is executed by hybrid nanoparticles along the surface of disks. In addition, elevation in Nusselt number and depreciation in skin friction coefficient is revealed against increasing magnitude of nanoparticle volume fraction. A positive trend in skin friction coefficient is manifested against the increasing magnitude of Reynold number. It is also observed that by increasing the size and shape of hybrid nanoparticles thermal conductivity and viscosity of the base fluid increases.

Dispersion of metallic/ceramic matrix nanocomposite material through porous surfaces in magnetized hybrid nanofluids flow with shape and size effects

Matrix nanocomposites are high performance materials possessing unusual features along with unique design possibilities. Due to extraordinary thermophysical characteristic contained by these matrix nanocomposites materials they are useful in several areas ranging from packaging to biomedical applications. Being an environment friendly, utilization of nanocomposites offer new technological opportunities for several sectors of aerospace, automotive, electronics and biotechnology. In this regards, current pagination is devoted to analyze thermal features of viscous fluid flow between orthogonally rotating disks with inclusion of metallic matrix nanocomposite (MMNC) and ceramic matrix nanocomposites (CMNC) materials. Morphological aspects of these nanomaterials on flow and heat transfer characteristics has been investigated on hybrid viscous fluid flow. Mathematical structuring of problem along with empirical relations for nanocomposites materials are formulated in the form of partial differential equations and later on converted into ordinary differential expressions by using suitable variables. Solution of constructed coupled differential system is found by collaboration of Runge–Kutta and shooting methods. Variation in skin friction coefficient at lower and upper walls of disks along with measurement about heat transfer rate are calculated against governing physical parameters. Impact of flow concerning variables on axial, radial components of velocity and temperature distribution are also evaluated. Contour plots are also drawn to explore heat and thermal profiles. Comparison and critical analysis of MMNc and CMNc have been presented at lower and upper porous disks. Our computed analysis indicates that hybrid nanofluids show significant influence as compared to simple nanofluids with the permutation of the different shape factors.

A significant role of permeability on blood flow for hybrid nanofluid through bifurcated stenosed artery: Drug delivery application

OBJECTIVE

The prime objective of concerned article is to discuss the permeability impacts on blood flow by considering hybrid nanofluid through bifurcated stenosed artery.

DESIGN/APPROACH

The human body circulatory framework involves the arrangement of veins that fuse the bifurcation on parent, at apex and on regions of daughter artery with nanoparticles is viewed. Blood streaming is recognized as Newtonian along vessel segment. The walls of the stenosed bifurcated artery is considered to be permeable as well as compliant. Copper and its oxide as used as drug to minimize the stress and the lesions of the atherosclerotic artery.

FINDINGS

The theoretical investigation is carried out by invoking the experimental values of hybrid nanoparticles into the structured equations. Moreover, impacts of hemodynamics are also make sense of to inspect the progression of blood for atherosclerotic vein. Daughter and parent artery comparison is described through parabolic graph of velocity. Graphical illustration is utilized to present the theoretical results of this drug delivery model. Metallic nanoparticles justify their use in drug delivery.

CONCLUSIONS

The flow of blood is viewed as not quite the same as pressure between segments of atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic course. Bifurcation angle minimize the stress for daughter artery whereas trend is opposite for parent daughter. The change in compliant wall parameter reduces the circulating bolus size for parent daughter whereas for daughter artery the change in bolus shape is observed.

Histo-pathological Features of Genital Tract Malignancies as Seen in a Tertiary Health Center in North-Western Nigeria: A 10-year Review

Background:

The pattern of gynecological malignancies varies among nations and even within health institution in the same country. Understanding the histo-pathological pattern of these malignancies will help in the management of the patient.

Aim:

The aim of the following study is to establish the frequency, histo-pathological features, and distribution of genital tract malignancies as seen in a tertiary health institution in North - western Nigeria.

Materials and Methods:

A retrospective analysis of data from ward admissions and discharge records, surgical biopsy materials from the theater and the histopathology laboratory results of slides. The study was carried out at the Usmanu Dan-Fodiyo University Teaching Hospital Sokoto, Nigeria. Data were entered into a study proforma and analysis was through SPSS version 15 (Chicago IL) for windows. The results were expressed in simple percentages, tables and charts.

Results:

During the study period (2000-2009), there were 404 cases of gynecological malignancies recorded in the hospital. Cervical cancer was the most common gynecological malignancy 274/404 (69%), followed by choriocarcinoma 52/404 (13.1%), ovarian cancer 46/404 (11.4%) while the least common was vaginal cancer 1/404 (0.3%). The mean age of the cancers was 54 years (28.3). The mean age of incidence of all ovarian cancers was 52.5 years (SD ± 16.2). Epithelial ovarian tumors had a mean age incidence of 67 (12) years, while that of ovarian germ cell tumors was 18.5 (8) years. The incidence of cervical cancer showed a rising trend. Moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma was the most common histological variant of cervical carcinoma 170/252 (67.5%). Among the ovarian tumors, epithelial cancers were the most common 38/46 (82.6%), and were followed by the germ cell tumors 5/46 (10.9%). Dysgerminoma was the predominant ovarian germ cell tumour 4/5 (80%). There were 50 deaths from these cancers in our hospital.

Conclusion:

Cervical cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy in our centerand it was followed by Choriocarcinoma. Efforts to reduce the cancer burden should focus on heath education of the masses, national organized screening especially for cervical cancer and establishing regional centers for monitoring and evaluation of these programs.

Association between p16, hMLH1 and E-cadherin promoter hypermethylation and intake of local hot salted tea and sun-dried foods in Kashmiris with gastric tumors

The aim of this study was to evaluate the methylation status of three important cancer related genes viz. p16, E-cadherin and hMLH1 promoters and to associate the findings with specific dietary habits in Kashmiris, a culturally distinct population in India, with gastric cancer. The study subjects were divided into three age groups viz. 0-30 yrs (1st), 31-60 yrs (2nd) and 61-90 yrs (3rd). A highly significant association between the intake of local hot salted tea in 2nd (p=0.001) and 3rd (p=0.009) age groups was observed with the promoter hypermethylation of E cadherin. Again a highly significant association between the aberrant methylation of hMLH1 (p=0.000) and p16 (p=0.000) promoters and the intake of local hot salted tea was observed in the 2nd age group of gastric cancer patients. The intake of sun-dried food was also significantly associated with the promoter hypermethylation of E cadherin (p=0.003) and p16 (p=0.015) genes in 3rd age group. The results of the present study suggest a close association between the aberrant methylation of p16, E-cadherin and hMLH1 promoters and the intake of local hot salted tea and sun-dried foods in Kashmiri population.

Is it important to classify ischaemic stroke?

Thirty-five percent of all ischemic events remain classified as cryptogenic. This study was conducted to ascertain the accuracy of diagnosis of ischaemic stroke based on information given in the medical notes. It was tested by applying the clinical information to the (TOAST) criteria. Hundred and five patients presented with acute stroke between Jan-Jun 2007. Data was collected on 90 patients. Male to female ratio was 39:51 with age range of 47-93 years. Sixty (67%) patients had total/partial anterior circulation stroke; 5 (5.6%) had a lacunar stroke and in 25 (28%) the mechanism of stroke could not be identified. Four (4.4%) patients with small vessel disease were anticoagulated; 5 (5.6%) with atrial fibrillation received antiplatelet therapy and 2 (2.2%) patients with atrial fibrillation underwent CEA. This study revealed deficiencies in the clinical assessment of patients and treatment was not tailored to the mechanism of stroke in some patients.

Monoparesis secondary to herpes zoster

We describe a 90-year-old woman with right upper limb monoparesis secondary to varicella zoster virus infection as a result of extensive inflammatory involvement of the entire brachial plexus at root level. To our knowledge, this is the first report of entire brachial plexus involvement in a living patient of such advanced age. Despite a delay in presentation and thus initiation of treatment, a favourable clinical response was observed.

Abstract P6-06-04: Preliminary Studies Characterizing the Prevalence of Mouse Mammary Tumor-Like Sequences in Human Tissues of Pakistani Origin

Background: Pakistan has the second highest rate of breast cancer in Asia after Israel with nearly 1 out of 9 women at risk of developing breast cancer at some stage in their lifetime. A potential role of viruses in human breast cancer induction/development is increasingly coming to surface. Several different groups around the world have demonstrated the presence of mousemammary tumor virus (MMTV)-like sequences in tumor but not normal breast tissue. However, these findings are controversial and seem to differ depending upon the geographic location and ethnicity of a population. Some find MMTV-like sequences in tumors of breast cancer patients only, while others believe these results are due to PCR contamination. Yet others believe that these sequences are real and represent endogenous retroviruses that reside within the human genome.

Methods: These possibilities were tested by collecting blood and breast tissue samples from breast cancer and normal individuals after informed consent and ethical approval. A total of 146 blood and tumor samples from cancer patients and 164 blood genomic DNA samples from healthy individuals were collected and subjected to PCR. Primers for different regions of the virus were designed in such a manner that they encompassed regions conserved among different MMTV strains, but were different at their 3’ ends from the human endogenous virus K (HERV-K) that has -50% homology to MMTV.

Results: Single PCR screening of all samples gave sporadic, mostly weak positive results. However, nested PCR of a subset of the samples from normal and cancer patients revealed that for the pol region, over 50-100% of the samples were positive, for env 15-75% of the samples were positive, while for long terminal repeat (LTR) 5-100% of the samples were positive, depending upon whether they were from blood or breast tissue. Sequencing of the PCR fragments further revealed these sequences to be 90-100% homologous to Mtv-8 but not HERV-K, thus identifying these amplified bands to be of MMTV origin. Finally, test of the wild Pakistani Mus musculus revealed that they contain endogenous MMTVs very similar to Mtv-8.

Conclusions: Together, these unexpected results suggest that the Pakistani population may be exposed to MMTV, maybe through zoonotic transmission from mice. These observations need further stringent study and confirmation. Differential expression studies are in the process as well as hunt for viral integration sites. It is only with a positive demonstration of integration sites in normal individuals that one can definitively prove whether MMTV is actually in the human population.

POEMS syndrome: cryoglobulinemia an unusual association

BACKGROUND

Associations between plasma cell dyscrasia and peripheral neuropathy were well recognized as early as the 1950s. In 1980, Bardwick coined the acronym POEMS (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, M protein and skin changes).

AIM

We report a 56-year-old woman who presented with excessive sweating, lethargy, intermittent clawing of fingers and painful limb spasms for 2 years. Clinical examination showed hyperpigmented skin lesions, bilateral pleural effusions and organomegaly. Relevant investigations revealed the presence of sensorimotor polyneuropathy, raised cerebrospinal fluid protein, IgM monoclonal band on serum protein electrophoresis, and reactive bone marrow. The patient was treated with combination therapy which included cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone, and intravenous immunoglobulin with moderate response.

CONCLUSION

Presence of cryoglobulinemia in this case has not been described in the literature.

An unusual cause of postoperative detrusor overactivity

Fallopian tube prolapse through a ruptured vagina is a rare, but well-documented, gynaecological condition. The majority of cases reported in the literature complicated vaginal hysterectomy and presented with vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain. We report a case after abdominal hysterectomy, which presented with urinary symptoms, an unreported presentation, and was managed successfully via the vaginal route. An update on the cases reported in the literature is also presented.

Accessory mitral valve tissue causing severe subaortic stenosis with dextrocardia in a premature newborn

We report an unusual case of left-ventricular outflow obstruction caused by accessory mitral valve tissue associated with dextrocardia and ventricular septal defect in a seven-day-old, 2200 grams premature infant, who was referred with a heart murmur. The diagnosis was made by two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography which demonstrated the accessory tissue as well as a 100 mmHg peak systolic gradient between the left ventricle and the aorta. Ten days after the presentation the infant underwent emergency surgery after respiratory arrest and recurrent episodes of syncope. The accessory mitral valve tissue and its fibrous extension were excised and the ventricular septal defect was closed. We believe that surgical treatment of patients with accessory mitral valve tissue should be performed early because of the possibility of acute deterioration. Combined aortotomy and interatrial approach is very helpful in evaluating the anatomy and the mitral valve function as well as delineating the tissue to be excised.
