Abstract
Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic associations with 80-90% of all known plants, allowing the fungi to acquire plant-synthesized carbon, and confer an increased capacity for nutrient uptake by plants, improving tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses. We aimed at characterizing the mycorrhizal community in the rhizosphere of Neoglaziovia variegata (so-called `caroa`) and Tripogonella spicata (so-called resurrection plant), using high-throughput sequencing of the partial 18S rRNA gene. Both plants are currently undergoing a bioprospecting program to find microbes with the potential of helping plants tolerate water stress. Sampling was carried out in the Caatinga biome, a neotropical dry forest, located in northeastern Brazil. Illumina MiSeq sequencing of 37 rhizosphere samples (19 for N. variegata and 18 for T. spicata) revealed a distinct mycorrhizal community between the studied plants. According to alpha diversity analyses, T. spicata showed the highest richness and diversity based on the Observed ASVs and the Shannon index, respectively. On the other hand, N. variegata showed higher modularity of the mycorrhizal network compared to T. spicata. The four most abundant genera found (higher than 10%) were Glomus, Gigaspora, Acaulospora, and Scutellospora, with Glomus being the most abundant in both plants. Nonetheless, Gigaspora, Diversispora, and Ambispora were found only in the rhizosphere of N. variegata, whilst Scutellospora, Paraglomus, and Archaeospora were exclusive to the rhizosphere of T. spicata. Therefore, the community of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi of the rhizosphere of each plant encompasses a unique composition, structure and modularity, which can differentially assist them in the hostile environment.

Abstract
The present study investigated the bioaccessibility of minerals, bioactive compounds, and sensory acceptance of isotonic beverages formulated with Ricotta cheese whey (RCW) and passion fruit cv. BRS Sertão Forte. Three formulations were developed: I1 with 50% RCW and 5% passion fruit pulp, I2 with 50% RCW and 8.5% pulp, and I3 with 30% RCW and 12% pulp. I3 showed higher ascorbic acid content and antioxidant activity, exhibited the highest scores in the consumer test, and maintained its physicochemical stability and microbiological safety during the storage at 7 °C for 56 days. (-)-Epicatechin gallate, (-)-epigallocatechin gallate, and cis-resveratrol were the main phenolic compounds quantified in the isotonic beverages. I1 and I3 exhibited high bioaccessibility of the minerals K, Na, and Mg (37-70%) compared to I2, which showed bioaccessibility between 31 and 40%. The beverages developed are innovative alternatives for the market of supplements for athletes, combining the use of a dairy industry by-product and a new variety of passion fruit to date little-explored economically. Abstract
Stylosanthes scabra, popularly known as stylo, is native to the Brazilian Caatinga semiarid region and stands out as a drought-tolerant shrub forage crop. This work provides information about the plant response during the first 48 h of water deficit, followed by a rehydration treatment. Besides root transcriptomics data, 13 physiological or biochemical parameters were scrutinized. Additionally, RNA-Seq annotated transcripts not associated with the "Viridiplantae" clade were taxonomically categorized. It was found that S. scabra quickly perceives and recovers from the oscillations of the imposed water regime. Physiologically, mechanisms that minimize evapotranspiration or protect the photosynthetic apparatus stood out. Biochemically, it was found that the root tissue invests in synthesizing compounds that can act as osmolytes (proline and sugars), emphasizing the importance of osmoregulation to water deficit acclimation. Consistently, transcriptome and qPCR analyses showed that a set of enriched biological processes with upregulated (UR) transcripts were involved in protective functions against reactive oxygen species or encoding enzymes of important metabolic pathways, which might contribute to S. scabra response to water deficit. Additionally, several UR kinases and transcription factors were identified. Finally, in an innovative approach, some naturally occurring microbial groups (such as Schizosaccharomyces, Bradyrhizobium, etc.) were identified in the S. scabra roots. This study reveals insights into the physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms underlying the S. scabra response to water deficit and provides candidate genes that may be useful in developing drought-tolerant crop varieties through biotechnological applications.
