Abstract
Water electrolyzers powered by renewable energy are emerging as clean and sustainable technology for producing hydrogen without carbon emissions. Specifically, anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzers utilizing non-platinum group metal (non-PGM) catalysts have garnered attention as a cost-effective method for hydrogen production, especially when integrated with solar cells. Nonetheless, the progress of such integrated systems is hindered by inadequate water electrolysis efficiency, primarily caused by poor oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrodes. To address this issue, a NiFeCo─OOH has developed as an OER electrocatalyst and successfully demonstrated its efficacy in an AEM electrolyzer, which is powered by renewable electricity and integrated with a silicon solar cell.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prenatal exposure to ambient air pollution is linked to a higher risk of unfavorable pregnancy outcomes. However, the association between pregnancy complications and exposure to indoor air pollution remains unclear. The Air Pollution on Pregnancy Outcomes research is a hospital-based prospective cohort research created to look into the effects of aerodynamically exposed particulate matter (PM)10 and PM2.5 on pregnancy outcomes. METHODS This prospective multicenter observational cohort study was conducted from January 2021 to June 2023. A total of 662 women with singleton pregnancies enrolled in this study. An AirguardK® air sensor was installed inside the homes of the participants to measure the individual PM10 and PM2.5 levels in the living environment. The time-activity patterns and PM10 and PM2.5, determined as concentrations from the time-weighted average model, were applied to determine the anticipated exposure levels to air pollution of each pregnant woman. The relationship between air pollution exposure and pregnancy outcomes was assessed using logistic and linear regression analyses. RESULTS Exposure to elevated levels of PM10 throughout the first, second, and third trimesters as well as throughout pregnancy was strongly correlated with the risk of pregnancy problems according to multiple logistic regression models adjusted for variables. Except for in the third trimester of pregnancy, women exposed to high levels of PM2.5 had a high risk of pregnancy complications. During the second trimester and entire pregnancy, the risk of preterm birth (PTB) increased by 24% and 27%, respectively, for each 10 μg/m3 increase in PM10. Exposure to high PM10 levels during the second trimester increased the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) by 30%. The risk of GDM increased by 15% for each 5 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 during the second trimester and overall pregnancy, respectively. Exposure to high PM10 and PM2.5 during the first trimester of pregnancy increased the risk of delivering small for gestational age (SGA) infants by 96% and 26%, respectively. CONCLUSION Exposure to high concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 is strongly correlated with the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Exposure to high levels of PM10 and PM2.5 during the second trimester and entire pregnancy, respectively, significantly increased the risk of PTB and GDM. Exposure to high levels of PM10 and PM2.5 during the first trimester of pregnancy considerably increased the risk of having SGA infants. Our findings highlight the need to measure individual particulate levels during pregnancy and the importance of managing air quality in residential environment.

Abstract
The clavicle has various anatomic shapes unique to each individual. Additionally, with the increase in high-energy traumas such as sports injuries and traffic accidents, the patterns of fractures become complex and complicated. Thus, there is a need for a variety of shapes of locking compression plates (LCP) to accommodate different types of fractures and facilitate quicker rehabilitation. The aim of this study is to present different types of LCP that secure fracture fragments and distribute stress evenly, in comparison to typical anatomical LCPs, for reinforcing clavicle fractures. Three models were compared in this study: the typical shape, the center hole removed shape, and the double-curved wing shape. The DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) file obtained from the computed tomography scan of the patient's clavicle was used to extract the three-dimensional (3D) clavicle structure. Finite element analysis (FEA) simulation was employed to analyze the structural changes of the LCP under external forces. A reinforced jig was used to apply the same type of external force to each LCP, and an experiment was conducted to analyze the mechanical impact of the LCP's structural characteristics. When comparing the stress values at the fracture zone point, resulting from the FEA simulation with applied bending forces, it was calculated that the stress dispersion effect was approximately ten times greater when transitioning from a typical LCP shape to a double-curved partial wing structure. Moreover, the ultimate stress increased 3.33 times, from 241.322 to 804.057 N, as the LCP design changed under cantilever bending conditions. This double-curved wing LCP design reduces stress concentration at the fracture site and minimizes stress in the fracture area when subjected to cantilever bending forces. Consequently, this newly designed LCP has the potential to decrease complications related to the plate and accelerate rehabilitation protocols.

Abstract
Particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) is associated with reproductive health and adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, studies evaluating biological markers of PM2.5 are lacking, and identifying biomarkers for estimating prenatal exposure to prevent pregnancy complications is essential. Therefore, we aimed to explore urine metabolites that are easy to measure as biomarkers of exposure. In this matched case-control study based on the PM2.5 exposure, 30 high PM2.5 group (>15 μg/m3) and 30 low PM2.5 group (<15 μg/m3) were selected from air pollution on pregnancy outcome (APPO) cohort study. We used a time-weighted average model to estimate individual PM exposure, which used indoor PM2.5 and outdoor PM2.5 concentrations by atmospheric measurement network based on residential addresses. Clinical characteristics and urine samples were collected from participants during the second trimester of pregnancy. Urine metabolites were quantitatively measured using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry following multistep chemical derivatization. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 21 and MetaboAnalyst 5.0. Small for gestational age and gestational diabetes (GDM) were significantly increased in the high PM2.5 group, respectively (P = 0.042, and 0.022). Fifteen metabolites showed significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.05). Subsequent pathway enrichment revealed that four pathways, including pentose and glucuronate interconversion with three pentose sugars (ribose, arabinose, and xylose; P < 0.05). The concentration of ribose increased preterm births (PTB) and GDM (P = 0.044 and 0.049, respectively), and the arabinose concentration showed a tendency to increase in PTB (P = 0.044). Therefore, we identified urinary pentose metabolites as biomarkers of PM2.5 and confirmed the possibility of their relationship with pregnancy complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The residual life of a patient with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is of major interest to patients and their physicians. While existing analyses of HIV patient survival focus mostly on data collected at baseline, residual life analysis allows for dynamic analysis based on additional data collected over a period of time. As survival times typically exhibit a right-skewed distribution, the median provides a more useful summary of the underlying distribution than the mean. In this paper, we propose an efficient inference procedure that fits a semiparametric quantile regression model assessing the effect of longitudinal biomarkers on the residual life of HIV patients until the development of dyslipidemia, a disease becoming more prevalent among those with HIV. METHODS For estimation of model parameters, we propose an induced smoothing method that smooths nonsmooth estimating functions based on check functions. For variance estimation, we propose an efficient resampling-based estimator. The proposed estimators are theoretically justified. Simulation studies are used to evaluate their finite sample performances, including their prediction accuracy. We analyze the Korea HIV/AIDS cohort study data to examine the effects of CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4) cell count on the residual life of HIV patients to the onset of dyslipidemia. RESULTS The proposed estimator is shown to be consistent and normally distributed asymptotically. Under various simulation settings, our estimates are approximately unbiased. Their variances estimates are close to the empirical variances and their computational efficiency is superior to that of the nonsmooth counterparts. Two measures of prediction performance indicate that our method adequately reflects the dynamic character of longitudinal biomarkers and residual life. The analysis of the Korea HIV/AIDS cohort study data shows that CD4 cell count is positively associated with residual life to the onset of dyslipidemia but the effect is not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS Our method enables direct prediction of residual lifetimes with a dynamic feature that accommodates data accumulated at different times. Our estimator significantly improves computational efficiency in variance estimation compared to the existing nonsmooth estimator. Analysis of the HIV/AIDS cohort study data reveals dynamic effects of CD4 cell count on the residual life to the onset of dyslipidemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore socio-economic factors and medical conditions that affect regular stomach cancer (SC) screening among Korean adults. STUDY DESIGN This was a retrospective observational study. METHODS Study subjects were 5545 adults aged ≥40 years who participated in the 2007-2012 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and were followed up to year 2017 based on data linking to the Korean National Health Insurance Service and Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment. Socio-economic factors included sex, age, residential area, education, occupation, marital status, disability, public and private health insurance, service through local public health organizations, history of cancer except for SC, and family history of SC. Medical factors included six gastric lesions with the possibility of facilitating SC screening, including benign gastric neoplasm, chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric polyp, Helicobacter pylori infection, intestinal metaplasia, and peptic ulcers. The outcome was adherence to SC screening, which was divided into non-adherence, irregular adherence, and regular adherence. RESULTS After adjusting for the effects of socio-economic factors, multivariate ordinal logistic regression revealed that participants with a history of four types of gastric lesions were more likely to regularly participate in SC screening: chronic atrophic gastritis (odds ratio [OR] 1.567; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.276-1.923), gastric polyps (OR 1.565; 95% CI = 1.223-2.003), H. pylori infection (OR 1.637; 95% CI = 1.338-2.003), and peptic ulcer (OR 2.226; 95% CI 1.750-2.831). CONCLUSIONS To improve participation in SC screening, it is necessary to implement personalized strategies for individuals at risk for gastric cancer in addition to population-based strategies for vulnerable groups.

Abstract
Maternal exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is associated with adverse pregnancy and neonatal health outcomes. To explore the mechanism, we performed mRNA sequencing of neonatal cord blood. From an ongoing prospective cohort, Air Pollution on Pregnancy Outcome (APPO) study, 454 pregnant women from six centers between January 2021 and June 2022 were recruited. Individual PM2.5 exposure was calculated using a time-weighted average model. In the APPO study, age-matched cord blood samples from the High PM2.5 (˃15 ug/m3; n = 10) and Low PM2.5 (≤ 15 ug/m3; n = 30) groups were randomly selected for mRNA sequencing. After selecting genes with differential expression in the two groups (p-value < 0.05 and log2 fold change > 1.5), pathway enrichment analysis was performed, and the mitochondrial pathway was analyzed using MitoCarta3.0. The risk of preterm birth (PTB) increased with every 5 µg/m3 increase of PM2.5 in the second trimester (odds ratio 1.391, p = 0.019) after adjusting for confounding variables. The risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) increased in the second (odds ratio 1.238, p = 0.041) and third trimester (odds ratio 1.290, p = 0.029), and entire pregnancy (odds ratio 1.295, p = 0.029). The mRNA-sequencing of cord blood showed that genes related to mitochondrial activity (FAM210B, KRT1, FOXO4, TRIM58, and FBXO7) and PTB-related genes (ADIPOR1, YBX1, OPTN, NFkB1, HBG2) were upregulated in the High PM2.5 group. In addition, exposure to high PM2.5 affected mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and proteins in the electron transport chain, a subunit of OXPHOS. These results suggest that exposure to high PM2.5 during pregnancy may increase the risk of PTB and GDM, and dysregulate PTB-related genes. Alterations in mitochondrial OXPHOS by high PM2.5 exposure may occur not only in preterm infants but also in normal newborns. Further studies with larger sample sizes are required.

Abstract
Monolayered transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are easily exposed to air, and their crystal quality can often be degraded via oxidation, leading to poor electronic and optical device performance. The degradation becomes more severe in the presence of defects, grain boundaries, and residues. Here, we report crack propagation in pristine TMD monolayers grown by chemical vapor deposition under ambient conditions and light illumination. Under a high relative humidity (RH) of ∼60% and white light illumination, the cracks appear randomly. Photo-oxidative cracks gradually propagated along the grain boundaries of the TMD monolayers. In contrast, under low RH conditions of ∼2%, cracks were scarcely observed. Crack propagation is predominantly attributed to the accumulation of water underneath the TMD monolayers, which is preferentially absorbed by hygroscopic alkali metal-based precursor residues. Crack propagation is further accelerated by the cyclic process of photo-oxidation in a basic medium, leading to localized tensile strain. We also found that such crack propagation is prevented after the removal of alkali metals via the transfer of the sample to other substrates.

Abstract
Dysbiotic vaginal microbiota (DVM) disturb the vaginal environment, including pH, metabolite, protein, and cytokine profiles. This study investigated the impact of DVM on the vaginal environment in 40 Korean pregnant women and identified predictable biomarkers of birth outcomes. Cervicovaginal fluid (CVF) samples were collected in the third trimester using vaginal swabs, examined for pH, and stored at -80 °C for further analysis. The samples were grouped as full-term (FTB, n = 20) and preterm (PTB, n = 20) births. The microbiota was profiled in the V1-V9 regions. The levels of targeted metabolites, TLR-4, and cytokines were determined. The pH of CVF from PTB (>4.5) was significantly higher than that of the CVF from FTB (>3.5) (p < 0.05). Neonatal gestational age at delivery, birth weight, and Apgar score differed significantly between groups. The relative abundances of beneficial Lactobacillus spp., such as Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus jensenii, and Bifidobacterium, were higher in FTB, whereas those of pathogenic Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus, Prevotella, Ureaplasma parvum, and Corynebacterium spp. were higher in PTB. Acetate, methanol, TLR-4, and TNF-α levels were negatively correlated with gestational age at delivery and birth weight. Moreover, ethanol, methanol, TLR-4, IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α levels were positively correlated with succinate, acetate, acetoacetate, formate, and ammonia. Overall, DVM induces preterm birth via pathogenic molecules in the vagina.

Abstract
Layered 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been suggested as efficient substitutes for Pt-group metal electrocatalysts in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, poor catalytic activities in neutral and alkaline electrolytes considerably hinder their practical applications. Furthermore, the weak adhesion between TMDs and electrodes often impedes long-term durability and thus requires a binder. Here, a universal platform is reported for robust dual-atom doped 2D electrocatalysts with superior HER performance over a wide pH range media. V:Co-ReS2 on a wafer scale is directly grown on oxidized Ti foil by a liquid-phase precursor-assisted approach and subsequently used as highly efficient electrocatalysts. The catalytic performance surpasses that of Pt group metals in a high current regime (≥ 100 mA cm-2 ) at pH ≥ 7, with a high durability of more than 70 h in all media at 200 mA cm-2 . First-principles calculations reveal that V:Co dual doping in ReS2 significantly reduces the water dissociation barrier and simultaneously enables the material to achieve the thermoneutral Gibbs free energy for hydrogen adsorption.

Metabolic dysfunction during pregnancy was assessed based on a modified definition of metabolic syndrome and its components, accounting for pregnancy-specific criteria. Exposure to PM2.5 during pregnancy was associated with worsened metabolic parameters especially glucose metabolism. In comparison to participants exposed to the low PM2.5 group, those exposed to high PM2.5 levels exhibited increased odds of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) after adjusting for confounding variables in different adjusted models. Specifically, in model 1, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) was 3.117 with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 1.234-7.870; in model 2, the aOR was 3.855 with a 95% CI of 1.255-11.844; in model 3, the aOR was 3.404 with a 95% CI of 1.206-9.607; and in model 4, the aOR was 2.741 with a 95% CI of 0.712-10.547. Exposure to higher levels of PM2.5 during pregnancy was associated with a tendency to worsen metabolic dysfunction markers specifically in glucose homeostasis. Further research is needed to investigate the mechanisms underlying the effects of ambient PM2.5 on metabolic dysfunction during pregnancy.

Abstract
Preterm birth (PTB) refers to delivery before 37 weeks of gestation. Premature neonates exhibit higher neonatal morbidity and mortality rates than term neonates; therefore, it is crucial to predict and prevent PTB. Advancements enable the prediction and prevention of PTB using genetic approaches, especially by investigating its correlation with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). We aimed to identify impactive and relevant SNPs for the prediction of PTB via whole-genome sequencing analyses of the blood of 31 pregnant women with PTB (n = 13) and term birth (n = 18) who visited the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital from November 1, 2018 to February 29, 2020. A genome-wide association study was performed using PLINK 1.9 software and 256 SNPs were selected and traced through protein-protein interactions. Moreover, a validation study by genotyping was performed on 60 other participants (preterm birth, n = 30; term birth, n = 30) for 25 SNPs related to ion channel binding and receptor complex pathways. Odds ratios were calculated using additive, dominant, and recessive genetic models. The risk of PTB in women with the AG allele of rs2485579 (gene name: RYR2) was significantly 4.82-fold increase, and the risk of PTB in women with the AG allele of rs7903957 (gene name: TBX5) was significantly 0.25-fold reduce. Our results suggest that rs2485579 (in RYR2) can be a genetic marker of PTB, which is considered through the association with abnormal cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration and dysfunctional uterine contraction due to differences of RYR2 in the sarcoplasmic reticulum.

Abstract
Particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) levels are associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. In this retrospective cohort study, we examined whether the concentration of indoor PM2.5 affected pregnancy outcomes. Additionally, we evaluated biomarkers of pregnancy-related complications caused by fine dust. We collected clinical information and data based on residential addresses from the Air Korea database to assess PM2.5 exposure levels. As a multicenter prospective cohort study, we measured the indoor PM2.5 concentration and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers. The PM2.5 concentration of the low-birth-weight (LBW) delivery group was 27.21 μg/m3, which was significantly higher than that of the normal-birth-weight (NBW) group (26.23 μg/m3) (p = 0.02). When the newborns were divided by sex, the PM2.5 concentration of the LBW group was 27.89 μg/m3 in male infants, which was significantly higher than that of the NBW group (26.26 μg/m3) (p = 0.01). In the prospective study, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine significantly increased in the high-concentration group (113.55 ng/mL, compared with 92.20 ng/mL in the low-concentration group); in the high-concentration group, the rates of preterm birth (PTB) and small size for gestational age significantly increased (p < 0.01, p = 0.01). This study showed an association between PM2.5, oxidative stress, and fetal growth, with the PTB group being more vulnerable.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a rare, highly aggressive tumor, with median survival around 5 months. Approximately half of the ATC patients presents with distant metastases at diagnosis, showing even more devastating prognosis, yet no outcome analysis had been reported. In this study, we aim to evaluate the clinical outcome of M1 ATC patients, and to define the group of patients who would benefit from local treatment based on multi-disciplinary approach. MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 133 histology-confirmed ATC patients underwent protocol-based multidisciplinary treatment including surgery and chemoradiotherapy (CRT) between May 2016 and January 2022. Patients received intensity-modulated radiotherapy of 30 fractions concurrently with paclitaxel on days 1, 8 and 15 every 4 weeks, and lenvatinib was added upon progression. After 18 fractions of CRT, interim response analysis using modified RECIST was conducted for adaptive treatment planning. We reviewed 58 patients with distant metastasis at diagnosis (stage IVC). Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were measured from the day of diagnosis. RESULTS Most common metastatic site was lung (91.4%), followed by bone (31.0%) and brain (5.2%). Lenvatinib was added for 35 patients after any sign of progression. Fourteen patients received upfront surgery (16 debulking and 5 total) followed by adjuvant CRT in 16 patients. Thirty-one patients received upfront CRT with 2 patients receiving total resection after sufficient down-staging. Six (10%) patients could not complete radiotherapy but continued receiving systemic treatment. The median follow-up was 5.9 months. The median and 1-year OS were 6.2 months and 20.5%, and PFS were 3.7 months and 3.5%. Total RT dose over 60 Gy significantly improved median OS (7.5 vs 4.1 months, p = 0.012) and median PFS (4.4 vs 3.0, p = 0.010). Patients with less than 10 initial metastatic tumors showed better median OS (9.1 vs 4.6 months, p = 0.002) but not PFS (5.1 vs 3.6, p = 0.485). At interim analysis, early response (CR, PR and SD) of primary tumor was not associated with survival, while progression of distant metastases showed significantly worse median OS (9.8 vs 4.6 months, p = 0.001). More than 10 metastatic tumors (HR 2.73, 95% CI 1.32-5.66) and stable metastasis at interim analysis (HR 2.39, 95% CI 1.04-5.48) remained as significant factor in the multivariable cox regression analysis. Median OS and PFS of patients with less than 10 metastases showing no progression at interim analysis were 9.1 months, and 5.1 months. CONCLUSION Local treatment combined with chemotherapy for M1 ATC patients showed outcome comparable to those of non-metastatic ATC results. Active local treatment should be considered especially for patients with less than 10 metastases, and patients without distant progression in early response evaluation.

Abstract
Surface self-reconstruction of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts generally occurs during the electrochemical activation process. Herein, we study the surface self-reconstruction of a 2D layered Fe-doped Ni-thiophosphate (NixFe1-xPS3) nanosheet. The role of Fe in the surface self-reconstruction of NiPS3 during the OER is investigated by using an in situ Raman analysis. Formation of amorphous metal/non-metal oxide layers on the surface of NixFe1-xPS3 can efficiently act as the ultimate catalytic center for the OER.

Abstract
Vaginal dysbiosis can lead to serious infections in asymptomatic women. Lactobacillus probiotics (LBPs) are being investigated as a promising therapy for reversing vaginal microbiota dysbiosis. This study aimed to investigate whether administering LBPs could improve vaginal dysbiosis and facilitate the colonization of Lactobacillus species in asymptomatic women. 36 asymptomatic women were classified based on the Nugent score as Low-NS (n = 26) and High-NS (n = 10) groups. A combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus CBT LA1, Lactobacillus rhamnosus CBT LR5, and Lactobacillus reuteri CBT LU4 was administered orally for 6 weeks. The study found that among women with a High-NS, 60% showed improved vaginal dysbiosis with a Low-NS after LBP intake, while four retained a High-NS. Among women with a Low-NS, 11.5 % switched to a High-NS. Genera associated with vaginal dysbiosis were positively correlated with the alpha diversity or NS, while a negative correlation was observed between Lactobacillus and the alpha diversity and with the NS. Vaginal dysbiosis in asymptomatic women with an HNS improved after 6 weeks of LBP intake, and qRT-PCR revealed the colonization of Lactobacillus spp. in the vagina. These results suggested that oral administration of this LBP could improve vaginal health in asymptomatic women with an HNS.

Abstract
The beginning of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection treatment depends on various factors, which are significantly correlated with the initial CD4 cell number. However, a covariate correlation between these factors may not reflect the correct outcome variable. Thus, we evaluated the effects of a combination of fixed factors (reduced dimensions), which determine when to start treatment for the first time, on short-term outcome, long-term outcome, and survival, considering correlations between factors. Multiple correspondence analysis was performed on variables obtained from 925 patients who participated in a Korean HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome cohort study (2006-2017). Five reduced dimension groups were derived according to clinical data, viral load, CD4 cell count at diagnosis, initial antiretroviral therapy, and others. The dimension group with high initial viral loads (55,000 copies/mL) and low CD4 cell counts (< 200 cells/mm3) should start treatment promptly after diagnosis. Groups with high initial CD4 cell counts (> 350 cells/mm3) that did not require immediate treatment according to previous guidelines had a higher failure rate for long-term relative CD4 recovery. Our results highlight the importance of early diagnosis and treatment to positively influence long-term disease outcomes, even if the initial immune status is poor, given the patient's combination of early diagnostic symptoms.

Abstract
Background Placental adhesion spectrum (PAS) is a disease in which the trophoblast invades the myometrium, and is a well-known high-risk condition associated with placental previa. Aim The morbidity of nulliparous women with placenta previa without PAS disorders is unknown. Patients and Methods The data from nulliparous women who underwent cesarean delivery were collected retrospectively. The women were dichotomized into malpresentation (MP) and placenta previa groups. The placenta previa group was categorized into previa (PS) and low-lying (LL) groups. When the placenta covers the internal cervical os, it is called placenta previa, when the placenta is near the cervical os, it is called the low-lying placenta. Their maternal hemorrhagic morbidity and neonatal outcomes were analyzed and adjusted using multivariate analysis based on univariate analysis. Results A total of 1269 women were enrolled: 781 women in the MP group and 488 women in the PP-LL group. Regarding packed red blood cell transfusion, PP and LL had adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 14.7 (95% confidence interval (CI): 6.6 - 32.5), and 11.3 (95% CI: 4.9 - 26) during admission, and 51.2 (95% CI: 22.1 - 122.7) and 10.3 (95% CI: 3.9 - 26.6) during operation, respectively. For intensive care unit admission, PS and LL had aOR of 15.9 (95% CI: 6.5 - 39.1) and 3.5 (95% CI: 1.1 - 10.9), respectively. No women had cesarean hysterectomy, major surgical complications, or maternal death. Conclusion Despite placenta previa without PAS disorders, maternal hemorrhagic morbidity was significantly increased. Thus, our results highlight the need for resources for those women with evidence of placenta previa including a low-lying placenta, even if those women do not meet PAS disorder criteria. In addition, placenta previa without PAS disorder was not associated with critical maternal complications.

Abstract
The air pollution on pregnancy outcome, (APPO) study is a prospective hospital-based cohort study designed to investigate the maternal and fetal effects of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter <10 μm (PM10) and particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter below 10 μm <2.5 μm (PM2.5) exposure. Specifically, approximately 1,200 pregnant women will be recruited for 3 years to collect data on exposure to fine dust, and the methods for measuring exposure to fine particles for each pregnant woman and estimating output will be established. This study aims to analyze the relationship between particulate matter and adverse pregnancy outcomes, identify related biomarkers, and develop management guidelines. We recruited early pregnant women without underlying diseases and collected biological samples using 5 mL of maternal venous blood and 15 mL of urine in each trimester of pregnancy; in addition, 5 mL of umbilical cord blood and 2×2×2 cm of placental tissue were collected after delivery. By applying PM10 and PM2.5 and time-activity patterns from the time-weighted average model, the individual predicted exposure to air pollution for the pregnant women was obtained. The APPO study can identify the degree of exposure to air pollution in pregnant women and use it as basic data for estimating individual exposure to particulate matter. The results of this APPO study will facilitate the development of health management strategies for pregnant women against air pollution.

Abstract
The predominance of vaginal Lactobacillus species, specifically L. crispatus, is important for pregnancy maintenance, but varies by race. The composition of the vaginal microbiome can affect susceptibility to adverse pregnancy outcomes. We performed 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing on vaginal swabs taken from Korean pregnant women. Here, we report the transition of Lactobacillus spp. in samples of full-term birth (FTB) collected longitudinally in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy in a cohort study (n = 23) and their association with Lactobacillus abundance and preterm birth (PTB) in a case-control study (n = 200). Lactobacillus species, which was dominant in FTB samples including those that received interventions in the second trimester, did not change until 37 weeks of gestation. However, L. crispatus was replaced by other Lactobacillus species after 37 weeks. The PTB risk showed a closer association with the Lactobacillus abundance than with community state type determined by Lactobacillus species. PTB was associated with less than 90% of Lactobacillus abundance and an increase in Ureplasma parvum in the second trimester. Thus, the vaginal microbiome may change in preparation for childbirth in response to multiple intrinsic factors after 37 weeks of gestation. Monitoring the Lactobacillus abundance may help improve the reliability of microbial PTB biomarkers.

Abstract
High pressure or strain is an effective strategy for generating phase transformations in van der Waals (vdW) layered materials without introducing defects, but this approach remains difficult to perform consistently. We present a scalable and facile method for achieving phase transformation in vdW materials, wherein solid vdW materials are subject to internal thermal stress within a molten metal mantle as it undergoes cooling. This internal thermal stress is principally the product of differential thermal expansion between mantle and core and can be tuned by the mantle material and temperature conditions. We validated this approach by achieving phase transformation of red phosphorus to black phosphorus, and metallic 1T'- to semiconducting 2H-MoTe2 crystals. We further demonstrate quantum electronic phase transformation of suppressed charge density wave in TiSe2 by means of electron-phonon coupling using the same system.

Abstract
While graphene shows great potential for diverse device applications, to broaden the scope of graphene-based device applications further, it would be necessary to tune the electronic state of graphene and its resultant electrical properties properly. Surface decoration with metal nanoparticles is one of the efficient doping methods to control the properties of two-dimensional materials. Here, we report the p-type doping effects in single-layer graphene decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) that were formed area-selectively by the facile one-step photoreduction (PR) process based on focused-laser irradiation. During the PR process, AgNPs were reduced on graphene in AgNO3 solution by laser-driven photoexcitation followed by chemical reactions. Based on scanning electron microscopy analyses, the morphology characteristics of AgNPs were shown to be modulated by the laser dwell time and power controllably. Further, p-type doping effects were demonstrated using graphene-field-effect transistor structures whose graphene channels were selectively decorated with AgNPs by the PR process, as validated by the decrease in channel resistance and the shift of the Dirac point voltage. Moreover, the growth of AgNPs was observed to be more active on the graphene channel that was laser-annealed ahead of the PR process, leading to enhancing the efficiency of this approach for altering device characteristics.

Abstract
Abstract
Background/Introduction
Although pericardiectomy is an effective treatment of constrictive pericarditis (CP), clinical outcome is not always successful. Pericardial calcification is a unique finding in CP. However, the amount and localization of calcification vary. Computer tomography (CT) can visualize the pericardial calcification with high sensitivity and provide the anatomical assessment.
Purpose
We investigated that how the pattern and amount of pericardial calcification affect the mid-term postoperative outcome after pericardiectomy in CP.
Methods
All of the patients who underwent total pericardiectomy in our hospital from 2010 to 2020 were derived from electrical medical records (n=105). Among them, preoperative CT scans (non-gated non-contrast) of 98 patients were available and, thus, 98 consecutive patients were finally analyzed. Medical records were reviewed in a retrospective manner. Cardiovascular event is defined as cardiovascular death or hospitalization associated with a heart failure symptom and all cause event is defined as all events that require admission. CT scan was analyzed by Aquarius Workstation, and the volume and localization pattern of pericalcification were derived. Pericardium calcium score was given as an Agatston score.
Results
Of 98 patients, 25 (25.5%) patients were hospitalized with heart failure symptom after pericardiectomy. Median follow up duration of patients is 172 weeks. A group with cardiovascular event had higher NYHA grade (P<0.001), lower calcium volume (P=0.004), and lower calcium score (P=0.01). Multivariate cox proportional analysis showed that high ln(calcium score) before pericardiectomy was dependent predictor of cardiovascular event (hazard ratio, 0.90; P=0.04) and all cause event (hazard ratio, 0.91, P=0.04) after pericardiectomy. When we set the cut off value at 7.22, based on ROC curve, there was a significant difference in cardiovascular event between the groups divided by this cutoff value in Kaplan-Meier curve (P=0.002) and multivariate cox proportional analysis (P=0.04). In the subgroup analysis, myocardium invasion and circumferential calcification were more common in the high calcium score group. Idiopathic & tuberculosis pericarditis were more associated with high calcium score group and post-operative pericarditis, other reasons (infection, radiation, etc) were more associated with low calcium group.
Conclusion
Low burden of pericardial calcification was associated high rate of mid-term clinical event after pericardiectomy CP. Preoperative evaluation of pericardial calcification pattern can be used as predictor of postoperative outcomes.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
As the indications for trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) expand, it is expected that the number of TAVR patients would increase and the follow-up duration would be longer. It is known that the incidence of leaflet thrombosis is higher in TAVR than in surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), but not much is known about the risk factors of late leaflet thrombosis in TAVR.
Aim
Therefore, in this study, the incidence and risk factors of late leaflet thrombosis at late term after TAVR and the effect on clinical course of late leaflet thrombosis would be investigated.
Method
There were 176 patients undergone TAVR from January 2015 to October 2020 in one tertiary hospital of south korea. 94 patients had follow-up cardiovascular computed tomography (CT) between 3 months and 2 years after TAVR. Among 94 patients, late leaflet thrombosis was discovered at 20 patients, and risk factors were analyzed by comparing clinical factors, echocardiographic and cardiovascular CT information, and angiographic data between the group with and without late leaflet thrombosis. And the difference in aortic valve hemodynamics between the group with and without leaflet thrombosis was examined and clinical outcomes were compared. Clinical outcome was defined as the composite of all-cause death, stroke, heart failure (HF) admission, redo-aortic valve (AV) replacement and major bleeding after detection of late leaflet thrombosis.
Results
Indexed mean sinus of Valsalva diameter, AV calcium score and post procedure estimated orifice area (EOA) had predictability of late leaflet thrombosis with AUC value of 0.670 (95% CI [0.546–0.795], p value = 0.020), AUC value of 0.698 (95% CI [0.544–0.851], p value = 0.012) and AUC value of 0.665 (95 percent CI [0.548–0.782], p value = 0.031), respectively (Figure 1).
In echocardiography performed at the time of follow-up CT, AV max velocity and AV mean pressure gradient were higher in thrombosis group and EOA and Doppler velocity index were lower in thrombosis group than in no thrombosis group within normal range (Figure 2). Clinical outcome was not significant different between the two groups (log rank p value = 0.560).
Conclusion
Larger indexed sinus of Valsalva diameter, higher AV calcium score and smaller post procedure AV EOA were risk factors for late leaflet thrombosis after TAVR. Subclinical late leaflet thrombosis have a benign course when properly managed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The risk of displaced and comminuted midshaft clavicle fractures is increased in high-energy traumas such as sport injuries and traffic accidents. Open reduction and plate fixation have been widely used for midshaft clavicle fractures. Among various plates for clavicle shaft fractures, superior locking compression plates (LCPs) have been mostly used. In plate fixation, nonunion caused by implant failure is the most difficult complication. The most common reasons for metal plate failure are excessive stress and stress concentration caused by cantilever bending. These causes were easily addressed using a locking screw cap (LSC). METHODS The clavicle 3-dimensional image was made from a computed tomography scan, and the clavicle midshaft fracture model was generated with a 10-mm interval. The fracture model was fixed with a superior LCP, and finite element analysis was conducted between the presence (with LSC model) and absence (without LSC model) of an LSC on the site of the fracture. The stresses of screw holes in models with and without LSCs were measured under 3 forces: 100 N cantilever bending force, 100 N axial compression force, and 1 N·m axial torsion force. After the finite element analysis, a validation test was conducted on the cantilever bending force known as the greatest force applied to superior locking plates. RESULTS The mean greatest stress under the cantilever bending force was significantly greater than other loading forces. The highest stress site was the screw hole edge on the fracture site in both models under the cantilever bending and axial compression forces. Under the axial torsional force, the maximum stress point was the lateral first screw hole edge. The ultimate plate stress of the with LSC model is completely lower than that of the without LSC model. According to the validation test, the stiffness, ultimate load, and yield load of the with LSC model were higher than those of the without LSC model. CONCLUSIONS Therefore, inserting an LSC into an empty screw hole in the fracture area reduces the maximum stress on an LCP and improves biomechanical stability.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and their heterostructures have attracted significant interest in both academia and industry because of their unusual physical and chemical properties. They offer numerous applications, such as electronic, optoelectronic, and spintronic devices, in addition to energy storage and conversion. Atomic and structural modifications of van der Waals layered materials are required to achieve unique and versatile properties for advanced applications. This review presents a discussion on the atomic-scale and structural modifications of 2D TMDs and their heterostructures via post-treatment. Atomic-scale modifications such as vacancy generation, substitutional doping, functionalization and repair of 2D TMDs and structural modifications including phase transitions and construction of heterostructures are discussed. Such modifications on the physical and chemical properties of 2D TMDs enable the development of various advanced applications including electronic and optoelectronic devices, sensing, catalysis, nanogenerators, and memory and neuromorphic devices. Finally, the challenges and prospects of various post-treatment techniques and related future advanced applications are addressed.

Abstract
Vertical van der Waals heterostructures (vdWhs), which are made by layer-by-layer stacking of two-dimensional (2D) materials, offer great opportunities for the development of extraordinary physics and devices such as topological superconductivity, robust quantum Hall phenomenon, electron-hole pair condensation, Coulomb drag, and tunneling devices. However, the size of vdWhs is still limited to the order of a few micrometers, which restricts the large-scale roll-to-roll processes for industrial applications. Herein, we report the sequential growth of a 14 in. vertical vdWhs on a rollable Al foil via chemical vapor deposition. By supplying chalcogen precursors to liquid transition-metal precursor-coated Al foils, we grew a wide range of individual 2D transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) films, including MoS2, VS2, ReS2, WS2, SnS2, WSe2, and vanadium-doped MoS2. Additionally, by repeating the growth process, we successfully achieved the layer-by-layer growth of ReS2/MoS2 and SnS2/ReS2/MoS2 vdWhs. The chemically inert Al native oxide layer inhibits the diffusion of chalcogen and metal atoms into Al foils, allowing for the growth of diverse TMDs and their vdWhs. The conductive Al substrate enables the effective use of vdWhs/Al as a hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalyst with a transfer-free process. This work provides a robust route for the commercialization of 2D TMDs and their vdWhs at a low cost.

Abstract
Ureaplasma and Prevotella infections are well-known bacteria associated with preterm birth. However, with the development of metagenome sequencing techniques, it has been found that not all Ureaplasma and Prevotella colonizations cause preterm birth. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between Ureaplasma and Prevotella colonization with the induction of preterm birth even in the presence of Lactobacillus. In this matched case–control study, a total of 203 pregnant Korean women were selected and their cervicovaginal fluid samples were collected during mid-pregnancy. The microbiome profiles of the cervicovaginal fluid were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene amplification. Sequencing data were processed using QIIME1.9.1. Statistical analyses were performed using R software, and microbiome analysis was performed using the MicrobiomeAnalyst and Calypso software. A positive correlation between Ureaplasma and other genera was highly related to preterm birth, but interestingly, there was a negative correlation with Lactobacillus and term birth, with the same pattern observed with Prevotella. Ureaplasma and Prevotella colonization with Lactobacillus abundance during pregnancy facilitates term birth, although Ureaplasma and Prevotella are associated with preterm birth. Balanced colonization between Lactobacillus and Ureaplasma and Prevotella is important to prevent preterm birth.

Abstract
The opportunistic human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus can evade antibiotics by acquiring antibiotic resistance genes or by entering into a non-growing dormant state. Moreover, the particular circumstances of a specific infection site, such as acidity or anaerobicity, often weaken antibiotic potency. Decreased bacterial susceptibility combined with diminished antibiotic potency is responsible for high failure rates when treating S. aureus infections. Here, we report that the membrane-active antimicrobial agent nTZDpa does not only exhibit enhanced antibiotic activity against multidrug-resistant Gram-positive pathogens in acidic pH, but also retains antimicrobial potency under anaerobic conditions. This agent completely eradicated highly antibiotic-tolerant cells and biofilms formed by methicillin-resistant S. aureus at pH 5.5 at concentrations at which it was not potent at pH 7.4. Furthermore, nTZDpa was more potent at synergistically potentiating gentamicin killing against antibiotic-tolerant MRSA cells at low pH than at high pH. All-atom molecular dynamics simulations combined with membrane-permeabilization assays revealed that the neutral form of nTZDpa, which contains carboxylic acid, is more effective than the deprotonated form at penetrating the bacterial membrane and plays an essential role in membrane activity. An acidic pH increases the proportion of the neutrally charged nTZDpa, which results in antimicrobial enhancement. Our results provide key insights into rational design of pH-sensitive membrane-active antimicrobials and antibiotic adjuvants that are effective in an infection environment. These findings demonstrate that nTZDpa is a promising lead compound for developing new therapeutics against hard-to-cure infections caused by drug-resistant and -tolerant S. aureus.

Abstract
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is one of the most harmful viruses for humans in nowadays. To prevent the spread of MERS-CoV, a valid detection method is highly needed. For the first time, a MERS-nanovesicle (NV) biosensor composed of multi-functional DNA aptamer and graphene oxide encapsulated molybdenum disulfide (GO-MoS2) hybrid nanocomposite was fabricated based on electrochemical (EC) and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) techniques. The MERS-NV aptamer was designed for specifically binding to the spike protein on MERS-NVs and it is prepared using the systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) technique. For constructing a multi-functional MERS aptamer (MF-aptamer), the prepared aptamer was connected to the DNA 3-way junction (3WJ) structure. DNA 3WJ has the three arms that can connect the three individual functional groups including MERS aptamer (bioprobe), methylene blue (signal reporter) and thiol group (linker) Then, GO-MoS2 hybrid nanocomposite was prepared for the substrate of EC/SERS-based MERS-NV biosensor construction. Then, the assembled multifunctional (MF) DNA aptamer was immobilized on GO-MoS2. The proposed biosensor can detect MERS-NVs not only in a phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) solution (SERS LOD: 0.176 pg/ml, EIS LOD: 0.405 pg/ml) but also in diluted 10% saliva (SERS LOD: 0.525 pg/ml, EIS LOD: 0.645 pg/ml).

Abstract
Background We investigated cardiovascular disease (CVD), risk factors for CVD, and applicability of the three known CVD risk equations in the Korean human immunodeficiency virus/ Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) cohort. Materials and Methods The study parcitipants were HIV-infected patients in a Korean HIV/AIDS cohort enrolled from 19 hospitals between 2006 and 2017. Data collected at entry to the cohort were analyzed. The 5-year CVD risk in each participant was calculated using three CVD risk equations: reduced CVD prediction model of HIV-specific data collection on adverse effects of anti-HIV drugs (R-DAD), Framingham general CVD risk score (FRS), and Korean Coronary Heart Disease Risk Score (KRS). Results CVD events were observed in 11 of 586 HIV-infected patients during a 5-year (median) follow-up period. The incidence of CVD was 4.11 per 1,000 person-years. Older age (64 vs. 41 years, P = 0.005) and diabetes mellitus (45.5% vs. 6.4%, P <0.001) were more frequent in patients with CVD. Using R-DAD, FRS, and KRS, 1.9%, 2.4%, and 0.7% of patients, respectively, were considered to have a very high risk (≥10%) of 5-year CVD. The discriminatory capacities of the three prediction models were good, with c-statistic values of 0.829 (P <0.001) for R-DAD, 0.824 (P <0.001) for FRS, and 0.850 (P = 0.001) for KRS. Conclusion The FRS, R-DAD, and KRS performed well in the Korean HIV/AIDS cohort. A larger cohort and a longer period of follow-up may be necessary to demonstrate the risk factors and develop an independent CVD risk prediction model specific to Korean patients with HIV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both human and mouse allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) frequently demonstrates a combined type 1 and type 2 immune response. However, the relative importance of type 2 immunity in this setting has been incompletely understood yet. OBJECTIVE To explore an effector function of type 2 immunity in ACD with mixed type 1/type 2 immune response. METHODS Gene expression characteristics of contact hypersensitivity (CHS) model was examined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Cytokine profile of T cells was analyzed by flow cytometry. The involvement of type 2 immunity was assessed by antibody-mediated cytokine neutralization and cell depletion. The role of specific subset of cutaneous dendritic cells was evaluated using diphtheria toxin-induced cell-depleting mouse strains. RESULTS Oxazolone-induced CHS revealed a combination of type 1/type 2 gene expression. The severity of oxazolone-induced CHS was ameliorated by neutralization of IL-4 but not of IFN-γ, indicating that type 2 immunity plays a dominant effector function in this mixed type 1/type 2 model. Mechanistically, type 2 effector immunity was mounted by CD301b+Langeirn- dermal dendritic cells in part through thymic stromal lymphopoietin-interleukin 7 receptor alpha signaling-dependent manner. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest the clinical rationale for targeting type 2 immunity as a relevant therapeutic strategy for the mixed immune phenotype of ACD.

Abstract
C-Reactive protein (CRP) is a biomarker of inflammatory responses and an index for assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease and estimating prognosis. In this study, we constructed a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) biosensor composed of a multifunctional DNA three-way junction (DNA 3WJ), porous gold nanoplates (pAuNPs), and an Au-Te nanoworm structure for detection of CRP. The pAuNP and Au-Te nanostructures were synthesized by galvanic replacement reactions, and the morphology was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). To generate the SERS signal, the Au-Te nanostructure was immobilized on an indium-tin oxide substrate, and the thiol-modified CRP aptamer was then self-assembled onto the modified substrate for CRP recognition. To amplify the SERS signal and identify the Raman tag, the multifunctional DNA 3WJ was conjugated with the pAuNPs, and each fragment of 3WJ was functionalized to biotin (pAuNP conjugation), methylene blue (Raman reporter), and CRP aptamer (target binding). The results were confirmed by gel electrophoresis. For conjugation between pAuNPs and DNA 3WJ, avidin was encapsulated in pAuNPs, and the conjugation structure was confirmed by DLS. The fabricated SERS biosensor showed detection limits of 2.23 pM in phosphate-buffered saline and 3.11 pM in diluted human serum. Overall, the proposed biosensor may have potential applications as a SERS biosensor platform.

Here, lamellar confinement strategy is introduced for "sheet-to-nanocrystals (NCs)" conversion within a 2D-SiO2 envelope, which constructs a catalytic nanocartridge holding a platoon of isolated and in-plane-aligned ultrasmall Ni-NCs, performing as a robust and coking-resistant catalytic system for dry reforming of methane. Overcoming the problem of unavoidable bulk crystal growth from multiple sheets-stack or sheet-on-open-support, silica bilayer-encasing tightly clamps the atomic-thin Ni(OH)2 -nanosheet during thermal conversion and further hinders the migratory fusion of the resultant Ni-NCs. Upon heating-cooling cycle, the flapping silica envelope clutches the Ni-NCs like "eggs in a carton," subsequently, ensuring their thermal stability. Owing to the unique 2D-enveloped rigid architecture, Ni-NCs can circumvent sintering and coke deposition while tolerating the high temperatures (>700 °C) for long operation (>100 h), affording high conversions to syngas.

Abstract
Among transition metal dichalcogenides (TMdCs) as alternatives for Pt-based catalysts, metallic-TMdCs catalysts have highly reactive basal-plane but are unstable. Meanwhile, chemically stable semiconducting-TMdCs show limiting catalytic activity due to their inactive basal-plane. Here, metallic vanadium sulfide (VSn ) nanodispersed in a semiconducting MoS2 film (V-MoS2 ) is proposed as an efficient catalyst. During synthesis, vanadium atoms are substituted into hexagonal monolayer MoS2 to form randomly distributed VSn units. The V-MoS2 film on a Cu electrode exhibits Pt-scalable catalytic performance; current density of 1000 mA cm-2 at 0.6 V and overpotential of -0.08 V at a current density of 10 mA cm-2 with excellent cycle stability for hydrogen-evolution-reaction (HER). The high intrinsic HER performance of V-MoS2 is explained by the efficient electron transfer from the Cu electrode to chalcogen vacancies near vanadium sites with optimal Gibbs free energy (-0.02 eV). This study provides insight into ways to engineer TMdCs at the atomic-level to boost intrinsic catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution.

Abstract
PROBLEM Preterm birth (PTB) is a major cause of increased morbidity and mortality in newborns. The main cause of spontaneous PTB (sPTB) is the activation of an inflammatory response as a result of ascending genital tract infection. Despite various studies on the effects of the vaginal microbiome on PTB, a practical method for its clinical application has yet to be developed. METHOD OF STUDY In this case-control study, 94 Korean pregnant women with PTB (n = 38) and term birth (TB; n = 56) were enrolled. Their cervicovaginal fluid (CVF) was sampled, and a total of 10 bacteria were analyzed using multiplex quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). The PTB and TB groups were compared, and a PTB prediction model was created using bacterial risk scores using machine learning techniques (decision tree and support vector machine). The predictive performance of the model was validated using random subsampling. RESULTS Bacterial risk scoring model showed significant differences (P < 0.001). The PTB risk was low when the Lactobacillus iners ratio was 0.812 or more. In groups with a ratio under 0.812, moderate and high risk was classified as a U. parvum ratio of 4.6 × 10-3 . The sensitivity and specificity of the PTB prediction model using bacteria risk score were 71% and 59%, respectively, and 77% and 67%, respectively, when white blood cell (WBC) data were included. CONCLUSION Using machine learning, the bacterial risk score in CVF can be used to predict PTB.

Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus and Candida spp. are commonly linked with topical biofilm-associated infections such as those found on chronic wounds. These biofilms are notoriously difficult to treat, highlighting the grave need to discover and study new broad-spectrum agents to combat associated infections. Here we report that the kinase inhibitor Bay 11-7085 exhibited bactericidal activity against multidrug-resistant S. aureus with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 4 μg/ml. In addition, S. aureus strain MW2 did not acquire resistance to antibiotic pressure. Furthermore, Bay 11-7085 exhibited potency against Candida albicans and the emerging pathogen Candida auris with a MIC of 0.5–1 μg/ml. Bay 11-7085 partially inhibited and eradicated biofilm formation of various pathogens, such as VRSA (vancomycin-resistant S. aureus), as well as antifungal-resistant Candida spp. isolates. Notably, Bay 11-7085 partially inhibited initial cell attachment and formation of a VRSA-C. albicans polymicrobial biofilm in vitro. In contrast to C. albicans, inhibition of VRSA biofilm was linked to initial cell attachment independent of its bactericidal activity. Finally, Bay 11-7085 was effective in vivo at increasing the lifespan of C. elegans during an S. aureus and a C. albicans infection. Our work proposes kinase inhibitor Bay 11-7085 as a potential compound capable of combating biofilms associated with primary multidrug-resistant bacteria and yeast pathogens associated with wound infections.

Abstract
Growth of 2D van der Waals layered single-crystal (SC) films is highly desired not only to manifest the intrinsic physical and chemical properties of materials, but also to enable the development of unprecedented devices for industrial applications. While wafer-scale SC hexagonal boron nitride film has been successfully grown, an ideal growth platform for diatomic transition metal dichalcogenide (TMdC) films has not been established to date. Here, the SC growth of TMdC monolayers on a centimeter scale via the atomic sawtooth gold surface as a universal growth template is reported. The atomic tooth-gullet surface is constructed by the one-step solidification of liquid gold, evidenced by transmission electron microscopy. The anisotropic adsorption energy of the TMdC cluster, confirmed by density-functional calculations, prevails at the periodic atomic-step edge to yield unidirectional epitaxial growth of triangular TMdC grains, eventually forming the SC film, regardless of the Miller indices. Growth using the atomic sawtooth gold surface as a universal growth template is demonstrated for several TMdC monolayer films, including WS2 , WSe2 , MoS2 , the MoSe2 /WSe2 heterostructure, and W1- x Mox S2 alloys. This strategy provides a general avenue for the SC growth of diatomic van der Waals heterostructures on a wafer scale, to further facilitate the applications of TMdCs in post-silicon technology.

Abstract
A few studies to date have examined the association between prenatal exposure to alcohol, tobacco, and coffee, and congenital complications/adverse birth outcomes among South Korean populations. Thus, this study analyzed the data of 1675 Korean women with birth experience within the last 3 years for pregnancy-related health and nutritional behaviors and relative outcomes. During their pregnancies, 11.58% of the study population consumed alcohol at least once, 1.43% drank throughout all three trimesters, 1.13% smoked, 25.43% were exposed to secondhand smoking, and 28.18% consumed 3 coffees or more every day. Prenatal alcohol exposure was associated with 11.24 times increased risk of birth defects/disabilities [Odds Ratio (OR): 11.24, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) 1.07-117.86] and 10.66 times increased risk of inherited metabolic diseases (OR: 10.66, 95% CI: 1.08-104.82). Prenatal secondhand smoke exposure (OR: 1.62, 95% CI: 1.01-2.62) and coffee consumption (OR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.22-3.03) was associated with increased risk of low birth weight. Such results were in alignment with that of previous studies and confirmed that prenatal alcohol, tobacco, and coffee exposure can have detrimental neonatal and maternal consequences.

Abstract
The outbreak of the influenza virus (H1N1) has symptoms such as coughing, fever, and a sore throat, and due to its high contagious power, it is fatal to humans. To detect H1N1 precisely, the present study proposed an electrochemical biosensor composed of a multifunctional DNA four-way junction (4WJ) and carboxyl molybdenum disulfide (carboxyl-MoS2) hybrid material. The DNA 4WJ was constructed to have the hemagglutinin aptamer on the head group (recognition part); each of the two arms has four silver ions (signal amplification part), and the tail group has an amine group (anchor). This fabricated multifunctional DNA 4WJ can specifically and selectively bind to hemagglutinin. Moreover, the carboxyl-MoS2 provides an increase in the sensitivity of this biosensor. Carboxyl-MoS2 was immobilized using a linker on the electrode, followed by the immobilization of the multifunctional 4WJ on the electrode. The synthesis of carboxyl-MoS2 was confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and the surface of the electrode was confirmed by atomic force microscopy. When H1N1 was placed in the immobilized electrode, the presence of H1N1 was confirmed by electrochemical analysis (cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy). Through selectivity tests, it was also possible to determine whether this sensor responds specifically and selectively to H1N1. We confirmed that the biosensor showed a linear response to H1N1, and that H1N1 could be detected from 100 nM to 10 pM. Finally, clinical tests, in which hemagglutinin was diluted with human serum, showed a similar tendency to those diluted with water. This study showed that the multi-functional DNA 4WJ and carboxyl-MoS2 hybrid material can be applied to a electrochemical H1N1 biosensor.

Abstract
The IrRu alloy offered optimal energetics for NO reduction by CO. The ensemble effect plays a key role in promoting the reactivity of the IrRu alloy. Making the IrRu surface alloy is better for CO-SCR than forming an alloy over the bulk structure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to determine whether there are any differences in all-cause and cause-specific mortality with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk between health screening attenders and non-attenders among young adults. STUDY DESIGN We performed a retrospective cohort study using claim data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database. METHODS Individuals aged 20-39 years who had received health screening at least once between 2002 and 2005 were classified as attenders, and the others were classified as non-attenders. After propensity score matching according to attendance of health screening, 2,060,409 attenders and 2,060,409 non-attenders were included. We estimated adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for all-cause mortality, cause-specific mortality, and hospitalization of CVD from 2006 to 2015. RESULTS Survival from all-cause mortality was greater among attenders than among non-attenders (log rank P < 0.001). Similarly, death from CVD (log rank P = 0.007) and CVD events (log rank P < 0.001) were less likely among attenders. The risk for all-cause mortality in attenders was significantly lower than that in non-attenders (HR = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.81 to 0.84). The risk for CVD mortality (HR = 0.80, 95% CI = 0.73 to 0.87) and hospitalization of CVD (HR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.91 to 0.94) were lower in attenders. In stratified analyses, the risk for all-cause and cause-specific mortalities was lower among attenders regardless of insurance type. CONCLUSIONS Among young adults, the risk for all-cause mortality, CVD mortality, and hospitalization of CVD were lower for those who underwent health screenings. Future studies that evaluate the cost-effectiveness of health screening with additional consideration of psychosocial aspects are needed.

Abstract
In nowadays, we have entered the new era of pandemics and the significance of virus detection deeply impacts human society. Viruses with genetic mutations are reported nearly every year, and people have prepared tools to detect the virus and vaccines to ensure proper treatments. Influenza virus (IV) is one of the most harmful viruses reporting various mutations, sub-types, and rapid infection speed for humans and animals including swine and poultry. Moreover, IV infection presents several harmful symptoms including cough, fever, diarrhea, chills, even causing death. To reduce the IV-induced harm, its proper and rapid detection is highly required. Conventional techniques were used against various IV sub-types including H1N1, H3N2, and H5N1. However, some of the techniques are time-consuming, expensive, or labor-intensive for detecting IV. Recently, the nucleic acid-based aptamer has gained attention as a novel bioprobe for constructing a biosensor. In this review, the authors discuss the recent progress in aptasensors for detecting IV in terms of an electrochemical and an optical biosensor.

Abstract
Cryotherapy is used to treat keloid scars; however, the molecular and pathological mechanisms are not clearly understood. This study retrospectively evaluated the efficacy of combined treatment with cryotherapy and intralesional triamcinolone injection (Cryo+TA) or intralesional TA monotherapy (TA) in 40 Asian patients with keloid scars. Scar improvement was assessed using the Vancouver Scar Scale and Global Improvement Scale. Clinical improvement in scars, especially reduced vascularity and redness, was significantly greater in the Cryo+TA group than in the TA group. Cryotherapy-treated and untreated keloid tissue was collected from six patients for analysis. Histologically, collagen bundles from cryotherapy-treated keloid tissue were more fibrillar and abnormal thickness was reduced. Immunohistochemical staining showed a reduced number of dermal vessels after cryotherapy. Moreover, CD163+ M2 macrophages and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) were significantly increased in cryotherapy-treated tissue. Double immunofluorescence staining revealed co-expression of CD163 and MMP-9. These data indicate that cryotherapy recruits tissue-remodelling M2 macrophages with accompanying MMP-9, suggesting that cryotherapy-recruited M2 macrophages function in fibrotic resolution during keloid treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of effective data quality control and management is to minimize the impact of errors on study results by identifying and correcting them. This study presents the results of a data quality control system for the Korea HIV/AIDS Cohort Study that took into account the characteristics of the data. METHODS The HIV/AIDS Cohort Study in Korea conducts repeated measurements every 6 months using an electronic survey administered to voluntarily consenting participants and collects data from 21 hospitals. In total, 5,795 sets of data from 1,442 participants were collected from the first investigation in 2006 to 2016. The data refining results of 2015 and 2019 were converted into the data refining rate and compared. RESULTS The quality control system involved 3 steps at different points in the process, and each step contributed to data quality management and results. By improving data quality control in the pre-phase and the data collection phase, the estimated error value in 2019 was 1,803, reflecting a 53.9% reduction from 2015. Due to improvements in the stage after data collection, the data refining rate was 92.7% in 2019, a 24.21%p increase from 2015. CONCLUSIONS Despite this quality management strategy, errors may still exist at each stage. Logically possible errors for the post-review refining of downloaded data should be actively identified with appropriate consideration of the purpose and epidemiological characteristics of the study data. To improve data quality and reliability, data management strategies should be systematically implemented.
