Abstract
Diosgenin can inhibit the proliferation and cause apoptosis of various tumor cells, and its inhibitory effect on oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and its mechanism are still unclear. In this study, we predicted the targets of diosgenin for the treatment of OSCC through the database, then performed bioinformatics analysis of the targets, and further verified the effect of diosgenin on the activity of OSCC cell line HSC-3, the transcriptional profile of the targets and the molecular docking of the targets with diosgenin. The results revealed that there were 146 potential targets of diosgenin for OSCC treatment, which involved signaling pathways such as Ras, TNF, PI3K-AKT, HIF, NF-κB, and could regulate cellular activity through apoptosis, autophagy, proliferation and differentiation, inflammatory response, DNA repair, etc. Diosgenin significantly inhibited HSC-3 cell activity. The genes such as AKT1, MET1, SRC1, APP1, CCND1, MYC, PTGS2, AR, NFKB1, BIRC2, MDM2, BCL2L1, MMP2, may be important targets of its action, not only their expression was regulated by diosgenin but also their proteins had a high binding energy with diosgenin. These results suggest that diosgenin may have a therapeutic effect on OSCC through AKT1, MMP2 and other targets and multiple signaling pathways, which is of potential clinical value.

Abstract
Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) plays a key role in mitochondrial and cellular functions. mtDNA is maintained by active DNA turnover and base excision repair (BER). In BER, one of the toxic repair intermediates is 5'-deoxyribose phosphate (5'dRp). Human mitochondrial DNA polymerase γ has weak dRp lyase activities, and another known dRp lyase in the nucleus, human DNA polymerase β, can also localize to mitochondria in certain cell and tissue types. Nonetheless, whether additional proteins have the ability to remove 5'dRp in mitochondria remains unknown. Our prior work on the AP lyase activity of mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) has prompted us to examine its ability to remove 5'dRp residues in vitro. TFAM is the primary DNA-packaging factor in human mitochondria and interacts with mitochondrial DNA extensively. Our data demonstrate that TFAM has the dRp lyase activity with different DNA substrates. Under single-turnover conditions, TFAM removes 5'dRp residues at a rate comparable to that of DNA polymerase (pol) β, albeit slower than that of pol λ. Among the three proteins examined, pol λ shows the highest single-turnover rates in dRp lyase reactions. The catalytic effect of TFAM is facilitated by lysine residues of TFAM via Schiff base chemistry, as evidenced by the observation of dRp-lysine adducts in mass spectrometry experiments. The catalytic effect of TFAM observed here is analogous to the AP lyase activity of TFAM reported previously. Together, these results suggest a potential role of TFAM in preventing the accumulation of toxic DNA repair intermediates.

Abstract
Existing methods for studying neural circuits and treating neurological disorders are typically based on physical and chemical cues to manipulate and record neural activities. These approaches often involve predefined, rigid, and unchangeable signal patterns, which cannot be adjusted in real time according to the patient's condition or neural activities. With the continuous development of neural interfaces, conducting in vivo research on adaptive and modifiable treatments for neurological diseases and neural circuits is now possible. In this review, current and potential integration of various modalities to achieve precise, closed-loop modulation, and sensing in neural systems are summarized. Advanced materials, devices, or systems that generate or detect electrical, magnetic, optical, acoustic, or chemical signals are highlighted and utilized to interact with neural cells, tissues, and networks for closed-loop interrogation. Further, the significance of developing closed-loop techniques for diagnostics and treatment of neurological disorders such as epilepsy, depression, rehabilitation of spinal cord injury patients, and exploration of brain neural circuit functionality is elaborated.

Abstract
Objectives In recent years, the free triiodothyronine/free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio, a new comprehensive index for evaluating thyroid function, which could reflect thyroid function more stably and truly than serum thyroid hormone level, has been demonstrated to correlate with the risks of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in euthyroid adults. However, the correlation between thyroid hormone sensitivity and long-term prognosis in euthyroid patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and diabetes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains unclear. Methods A total of 1,786 euthyroid patients with ACS who successfully underwent PCI at Beijing Anzhen Hospital from August 2021 to April 2022 were included in our study, which was divided into three groups according to tertiles of thyroid hormone sensitivity index. Cox regression, Kaplan-Meier, and receiver operating characteristic analyses were applied to analyze the associations between the FT3/FT4 ratio with ACS and diabetes after PCI. Results Our analysis indicated that a lower level of FT3/FT4 ratio in euthyroid patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and diabetes after PCI showed significantly higher incidences of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) when compared with a higher level of FT3/FT4 ratio. After adjusting for other covariates, patients with a lower level of FT3/FT4 ratio were negatively associated with the risk of MACCE than those with a higher level of FT3/FT4 ratio (adjusted OR =1.61, 95% CI 1.05-2.47, P = 0.028). In subgroup analyses, individuals were stratified by age, sex, BMI, ACS type, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, showing that there were no significant interactions between the FT3/FT4 ratio and all subgroups for MACCE. In addition, the FT3/FT4 ratio performed better on ROC analyses for cardiac death prediction [area under the curve (AUC), 0.738]. Conclusion A reduced level of FT3/FT4 ratio was a potential marker of poor prognosis in euthyroid patients with ACS and diabetes after PCI.

Abstract
Importance Perioperative anxiety is prevalent among patients undergoing surgical treatment of cancer and often influences their prognosis. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has shown potential in the treatment of various anxiety-related disorders, but data on the impact of tDCS on perioperative anxiety are limited. Objective To evaluate the effect of tDCS in reducing perioperative anxiety among patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer (CRC) resection. Design, Setting, And Participants This randomized clinical trial was conducted from March to August 2023 at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University. Patients aged 18 years or older undergoing elective laparoscopic radical resection for CRC were randomly assigned to either the active tDCS group or the sham tDCS group. Intention-to-treat data analysis was performed in September 2023. Interventions Patients were randomly assigned to receive 2 sessions of either active tDCS or sham tDCS over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex on the afternoon of the day before the operation and in the morning of the day of operation. Main Outcomes and Measures The main outcome was the incidence of perioperative anxiety from the day of the operation up to 3 days after the procedure, as measured using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety (HADS-A) subscale (range: 0-21, with higher scores indicating more anxiety). Secondary outcomes included postoperative delirium (assessed by the Confusion Assessment Method or Confusion Assessment Method intensive care unit scale); pain (assessed by the 10-point Numeric Rating Scale [NRS], with scores ranging from 0 [no pain] to 10 [worst pain]); frailty (assessed by the Fatigue, Resistance, Ambulation, Illness and Loss of Weight [FRAIL] Index, with scores ranging from 0 [most robust] to 5 [most frail]; and sleep quality (assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index [PSQI], with scores ranging from 0 to 21 and higher scores indicating worse sleep quality) after the 2 sessions of the tDCS intervention. Results A total of 196 patients (mean [SD] age, 63.5 [11.0] years; 124 [63.3%] men) were recruited and randomly assigned to the active tDCS group (98 patients) or the sham tDCS group (98 patients). After the second tDCS intervention on the day of the operation, the incidence of perioperative anxiety was 38.8% in the active tDCS group and 70.4% in the sham tDCS group (relative risk, 0.55 [95% CI, 0.42-0.73]; P < .001). Patients in the active tDCS group vs the sham tDCS group were less likely to have postoperative delirium (8.2% vs 25.5%) and, at 3 days after the operation, had lower median (IQR) pain scores (NRS, 1.0 [1.0-1.0] vs 2.0 [2.0-2.0]), better median (IQR) sleep quality scores (PSQI, 10.5 [10.0-11.0] vs 12.0 [11.0-13.0]), and lower median (IQR) FRAIL Index (2.0 [1.0-2.0] vs 2.0 [2.0-3.0]). Conclusions and Relevance Findings of this randomized clinical trial indicate that administration of 2 preoperative sessions of tDCS was associated with a decreased incidence of perioperative anxiety in patients undergoing elective CRC resection. Active tDCS was also associated with better anxiety scores, pain levels, and sleep quality as well as reduced postoperative delirium and frailty. The findings suggest that tDCS may be a novel strategy for improving perioperative anxiety in patients undergoing CRC resection. Abstract
Dynamically organized chromatin complexes often involve multiplex chromatin interactions and sometimes chromatin-associated RNA1-3. Chromatin complex compositions change during cellular differentiation and ageing, and are expected to be highly heterogeneous among terminally differentiated single cells4-7. Here we introduce the multinucleic acid interaction mapping in single cells (MUSIC) technique for concurrent profiling of multiplex chromatin interactions, gene expression and RNA-chromatin associations within individual nuclei. When applied to 14 human frontal cortex samples from older donors, MUSIC delineated diverse cortical cell types and states. We observed that nuclei exhibiting fewer short-range chromatin interactions were correlated with both an 'older' transcriptomic signature and Alzheimer's disease pathology. Furthermore, the cell type exhibiting chromatin contacts between cis expression quantitative trait loci and a promoter tends to be that in which these cis expression quantitative trait loci specifically affect the expression of their target gene. In addition, female cortical cells exhibit highly heterogeneous interactions between XIST non-coding RNA and chromosome X, along with diverse spatial organizations of the X chromosomes. MUSIC presents a potent tool for exploration of chromatin architecture and transcription at cellular resolution in complex tissues.

Abstract
Background Postoperative sleep disturbance (PSD) is a common and serious postoperative complication and is associated with poor postoperative outcomes. Aims This study aimed to investigate the effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on PSD in older patients undergoing lower limb major arthroplasty. Methods In this prospective, double-blind, pilot, randomised, sham-controlled trial, patients 65 years and over undergoing lower limb major arthroplasty were randomly assigned to receive active tDCS (a-tDCS) or sham tDCS (s-tDCS). The primary outcomes were the objective sleep measures on postoperative nights (N) 1 and N2. Results 116 inpatients were assessed for eligibility, and a total of 92 patients were enrolled; 47 received a-tDCS and 45 received s-tDCS. tDCS improved PSD by altering the following sleep measures in the a-tDCS and s-tDCS groups; the respective comparisons were as follows: the promotion of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep time on N1 (64.5 (33.5-105.5) vs 19.0 (0.0, 45.0) min, F=20.10, p<0.001) and N2 (75.0 (36.0-120.8) vs 30.0 (1.3-59.3) min, F=12.55, p<0.001); the total sleep time on N1 (506.0 (408.0-561.0) vs 392.0 (243.0-483.5) min, F=14.13, p<0.001) and N2 (488.5 (455.5-548.5) vs 346.0 (286.5-517.5) min, F=7.36, p=0.007); the deep sleep time on N1 (130.0 (103.3-177.0) vs 42.5 (9.8-100.8) min, F=24.4, p<0.001) and N2 (103.5 (46.0-154.8) vs 57.5 (23.3-106.5) min, F=8.4, p=0.004); and the percentages of light sleep and REM sleep on N1 and N2 (p<0.05 for each). The postoperative depression and anxiety scores did not differ significantly between the two groups. No significant adverse events were reported. Conclusion In older patients undergoing lower limb major arthroplasty, a single session of anodal tDCS over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex showed a potentially prophylactic effect in improving postoperative short-term objective sleep measures. However, this benefit was temporary and was not maintained over time.

Abstract
Purpose: Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) stands as one of the most prevalent types of thyroid cancers, characterized by a propensity for in-situ recurrence and distant metastasis. The high mobility group protein (HMGB1), a conserved nuclear protein, plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis by stimulating tumor cell growth and migration. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism driving aberrant HMGB1 expression in PTC necessitates further elucidation. Materials and methods: Our study unraveled the impact of low and overexpression of USP15 on the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of PTC cells. Through a comprehensive array of molecular techniques, we uncovered the intricate relationship between HMGB1 and USP15 in the progression of PTC. Results: In this study, we identified USP15, a deubiquitinase in the ubiquitin-specific proteases family, as a true deubiquitylase of HMGB1 in PTC. USP15 was shown to interact with HMGB1 in a deubiquitination activity-dependent manner, deubiquitinating and stabilizing HMGB1. USP15 depletion significantly decreased PTC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. In addition, the effects induced by USP15 depletion could be rescued by further HMGB1 overexpression. But when HMGB1 is knocked down, even overexpression of USP15 could not promote the progression of PTC cells. Conclusion: In essence, our discoveries shed light on the previously uncharted catalytic role of USP15 as a deubiquitinating enzyme targeting HMGB1, offering a promising avenue for potential therapeutic interventions in the management of PTC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the sleep quality in patients with ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD) compared with patients without oGVHD after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHCT) and healthy controls. METHODS This cross-sectional study analyzed 142 patients after alloHCT including 94 patients with oGVHD and 48 without. Fifty healthy controls were also enrolled. oGVHD was diagnosed according to International Chronic Ocular GVHD Consensus Group (ICOGCG) criteria. Sleep quality was assessed by the Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (CPSQI). Poor sleep quality was defined as CPQSI score greater than 6. RESULTS Patients after alloHCT demonstrated a significantly higher CPQSI score than those of controls {7.0 [interquartile range (IQR) 5.0-10.0] vs. 5.5 [IQR 4.8-7.0], P =0.002}, especially in the oGVHD subgroup (7.5 [IQR 5.0-11.0] vs. 6.0 [IQR 5.0-8.0], P =0.04) with nearly double prevalence of poor sleep quality (58 [62%] vs. 18 [37%], P =0.006). Poor sleep quality was strikingly correlated with oGVHD diagnosis (adjusted odds ratio [OR]=2.55, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02-6.34, P =0.04) and systemic immunosuppressants (adjusted OR=2.61, 95% CI: 1.32-5.71, P =0.02). Among the ocular parameters, poor sleep quality was significantly associated with higher ICOGCG score (adjusted OR=1.20, 95% CI: 1.03-1.39, P =0.02) and lower tear film break-up time (adjusted OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.74-0.99, P =0.05). CONCLUSIONS Poor sleep quality was associated with an increased severity of oGVHD and tear film instability in the long-term alloHCT survivorship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Because of the advancement of bioabsorbable polymers and thinner struts, bioabsorbable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stents (BP-SES) with ultrathin struts may be related to superior performance when compared to durable-polymer drug-eluting stents (DP-DES) with thin struts. Nonetheless, the long-term safety of ultrathin BP-SES in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unknown. METHODS We sought to assess the long-term safety of ultrathin BP-SES in ACS patients, conducting a thorough meta-analysis of all relevant trials drawing a comparison between ultrathin BP-SES and contemporary thin DP-DES. Target lesion failure (TLF), which includes cardiac death (CD), target-vessel myocardial infarction (TV-MI), and clinically driven target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR) was considered the primary endpoint. Multiple databases comprising Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Pubmed were all thoroughly searched. RESULTS There were seven randomized controlled trials included in our study with 7522 randomized patients with ACS (BP-SES = 3888, DP-DES = 3634). TLF occurred in 371 (9.5% in BP-SES) and 393 (10.8% in DP-DES) patients, respectively, across a 40.7-month weighted mean follow-up, with no statistically significant group differences (risk ratio [RR]: 0.87; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.73-1.04; p = .12). Furthermore, no significant differences in cardiac death (RR: 0.96; 95% CI: 0.68-1.35; p = .81), TV-MI (RR: 0.63; 95% CI: 0.36-1.10; p = .10) and CD-TLR (RR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.46-1.29; p = .32) were detected between two groups. CONCLUSION During a follow-up of 40.7 months, ultrathin BP-SES and thin DP-DES had a comparable risk of TLF and its individual components (CD, TV-MI, and CD-TLR), indicating that ultrathin BP-SES held at least the same safety and efficiency as thin DP-DES presented in patients with ACS.

Abstract
The rational design of the heterogeneous interfaces enables precise adjustment of the electronic structure and optimization of the kinetics for electron/ion migration in energy storage materials. In this work, the built-in electric field is introduced to the iron-based anode material (Fe2O3@TiO2) through the well-designed heterostructure. This model serves as an ideal platform for comprehending the atomic-level optimization of electron transfer in advanced lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). As a result, the core-shell Fe2O3@TiO2 delivers a remarkable discharge capacity of 1342 mAh g-1 and an extraordinary capacity retention of 82.7% at 0.1 A g-1 after 300 cycles. Fe2O3@TiO2 shows an excellent rate performance from 0.1 A g-1 to 4.0 A g-1. Further, the discharge capacity of Fe2O3@TiO2 reached 736 mAh g-1 at 1.0 A g-1 after 2000 cycles, and the corresponding capacity retention is 83.62%. The heterostructure forms a conventional p-n junction, successfully constructing the built-in electric field and lithium-ion reservoir. The kinetic analysis demonstrates that Fe2O3@TiO2 displays high pseudocapacitance behavior (77.8%) and fast lithium-ion reaction kinetics. The capability of heterointerface engineering to optimize electrochemical reaction kinetics offers novel insights for constructing high-performance iron-based anodes for LIBs.

Abstract
Vitamin D-regulating action of PPARγ on obesity has been confirmed on adipocyte differentiation. However, it is not clear whether vitamin D affects the morphological size of mature adipocytes by influencing the expression of PPARγ in vivo. Our hypothesis was that Vitamin D3 (VitD3) inhibits the growth of adipocyte size by suppressing PPARγ expression in white adipocytes of obese mice. Five-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into normal diet and high-fat diet groups. After 10 weeks, the body weight between the two groups differed by 26.91%. The obese mice were randomly divided into a high-fat diet, solvent control, low-dose VitD3 (5000 IU/kg·food), medium-dose VitD3 (7500 IU/kg·food), high-dose VitD3 (10,000 IU/kg·food), and PPAR γ antagonist group, and the intervention lasted for 8 weeks. Diet-induced obesity (DIO) mice fed high-dose VitD3 exacerbated markers of adiposity (body weight, fat mass, fat mass rate, size of white and brown adipocytes, mRNA, and protein levels of ATGL and Fsp27), and the protein level of ATGL and Fsp27 decreased in the low-dose group. In conclusion, high-dose VitD3 possibly via inhibiting the ATGL expression, thereby inhibiting lipolysis, increasing the volume of adipocytes, and decreasing their fat-storing ability resulted in decreased Fsp27 expression. Therefore, long-term high-dose oral VitD3 may not necessarily improve obesity, and we need more clinical trials to explore the intervention dose and duration of VitD3 in the treatment of VitD3 deficiency in obese patients.

Abstract
Strawberry is a seasonal and regional fruit. Thus, strawberry waste caused by spoilage and decay is an urgent problem that must be solved. Developing hydrogel films (HGF) for multifunctional food packaging can effectively slow down strawberry. Based on the carboxymethyl chitosan/sodium alginate/citric acid with excellent biocompatibility, preservation effect, and ultrafast (10 s) coating on the strawberry surface, HGF specimens were designed and prepared through the electrostatic interaction of opposite charges between polysaccharides. The prepared HGF specimen exhibited excellent low moisture permeability and antibacterial properties. Its lethality rates against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were more than >99 %. The HGF could keep strawberries fresh for up to 8, 19, and 48 days at 25.0, 5.0, and 0 °C, respectively, by delaying the fruits' ripening, dehydration, microbial invasion, and respiration rate. The HGF dissolved and regenerated five times still exhibited good performance. The water vapor transmission rate of the regenerative HGF could reach 98 % of that of the original HGF. The regenerative HGF could maintain the freshness of strawberries for up to 8 days at 25.0 °C. This study provides new insight into an alternative film design for convenient, green, and renewable alternative films to delay perishable fruit spoilage.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the etiological characteristics of 2 serotypes of Salmonella strains isolated from a foodborne disease outbreak. Methods: A total of 11 anal swabs of the cases, 13 suspected contaminated food and 10 environmental samples were collected from a foodborne disease outbreak occurred on September 8, 2022 in a school. The anal swabs were enriched with selenite brilliant green enrichment broth (SBG) and brain heart infusion broth (BHI) respectively. PCR detection and culture of common intestinal pathogens were carried out. The suspected food samples were tested according to national standards for food safety. Multiple suspected Salmonella colonies were obtained and selected for serotype determination and whole genome sequencing. Serotypes were determined based on the whole-genome sequence, and clustering analysis was performed based on core genome single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). Results: The positive rates of Salmonella in anal swabs and suspected food samples were 9/11 and 5/13 respectively. Both Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan were isolated from 4 anal swabs and 4 suspected food samples. For the remaining samples, only Salmonella Uganda or Salmonella Idikan was isolated in each sample. The positive rate of Salmonella in 11 anal swabs of the cases after BHI enrichment for 12 h and 24 h were all 9/11 in real-time PCR, same to the culture results. Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan formed two independent and genetically distant lineages in the clustering tree based on core genome SNP, and 0-14 and 0-23 SNP were observed in Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan respectively. Conclusions: This foodborne disease outbreak was probably caused by Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan, which both exhibited strong genetic diversity. The PCR based pathogen screening strategy plus pathogen enrichment for cases' annal swabs can be used in the routine outbreak investigation.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the characteristics of the lipid profiling in meibum of patients with chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease (coGVHD) and to detect the potential influence of anti-inflammatory therapy on these differential lipids. Methods This cross-sectional study included 25 coGVHD patients and 13 non-coGVHD after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Among those with coGVHD, 14 had prior topical treatment (coGVHD(T)), and 11 did not (coGVHD(WT)). All participants completed ocular surface disease index questionnaire and received slit lamp examination, Schirmer's test without anesthesia, ocular surface interferometer, and meibography. Binocular meibum was collected and pooled for lipidomic analysis by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results One hundred and twenty differential lipid species were found among the three groups (96 of coGVHD(WT) vs. non-coGVHD, 78 of coGVHD(WT) vs. coGVHD(T), and three of non-coGVHD vs. coGVHD(T)). Compared with non-coGVHD group, coGVHD(WT) group had a significant abnormality of meibum composition, showing a significant decrease in glycerolipids, and an increase in glycerophospholipids and sphingolipids. Similar changes were also observed when coGVHD(WT) versus coGVHD(T). CoGVHD severity was negatively associated with mono-unsaturated triglycerides (TG), (β = -214.7; 95% CI, -363.9 to -65.5; P = 0.006) and poly-unsaturated TG (β = -4019.9; 95% CI, -7758.1 to -281.6; P = 0.036). Intensity of immunosuppression was negatively associated with mono-unsaturated TG (β = -162.4; 95% CI, -268.6 to -56.2; P = 0.004) and positively associated with phosphatidylcholine (β = 332.0; 95% CI, 19.2-644.8; P = 0.038). Conclusions Altered meibum in coGVHD is characterized by a decrease of glycerolipids and an increase of glycerophospholipids and may be significantly reversed by topical anti-inflammatory therapy.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Fu-Zheng-Xuan-Fei formula (FF) is a prescription that has been clinically used through the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for treating viral pneumonia. Although FF possesses a prominent clinical therapeutic effect, seldom pharmacological studies have been reported on its anti-influenza B virus (IBV) activity. AIM OF THE STUDY Influenza is an acute infectious respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus, which has high annual morbidity and mortality worldwide. With a global decline in the COVID-19 control, the infection rate of influenza virus is gradually increasing. Therefore, it is of great importance to develop novel drugs for the effective treatment of influenza virus. Apart from conventional antiviral drugs, TCM has been widely used in the clinical treatment of influenza in China. Therefore, studying the antiviral mechanism of TCM can facilitate the scientific development of TCM. MATERIALS AND METHODS Madin-Darby canine kidney cells (MDCK) and BALB/c mice were infected with IBV, and FF was added to evaluate the anti-IBV effects of FF both in vitro and in vivo by Western blotting, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and pathological assessment. RESULTS It was found that FF exhibited anti-viral activity against IBV infection both in vivo and in vitro, while inducing macrophage activation and promoting M1 macrophage polarization. In addition, FF effectively regulated the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway-mediated Th17/Treg balance to improve the lung tissue damage caused by IBV infection-induced inflammation. The findings provided the scientific basis for the antiviral mechanism of FF against IBV infection. CONCLUSIONS This study shows that FF is a potentially effective antiviral drug against IBV infection.

Abstract
Introduction Himalayan vultures (Gyps hinalayensis) are widely distributed on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance by feeding on decayed corpses of wild and domestic animals. Large-scale culture and metagenomics studies have broadened our understanding of viral diversity in animals' gastrointestinal tracts. However, despite the importance of gut viral communities in regulating bacterial diversity and performing symbiotic functions, no gut viral study has been conducted on Himalayan vultures. Furthermore, the impact of captivity on the gut virome of these vultures remains unknown. Methods In this study, metagenomic sequencing methods targeting DNA of virus-like particles enriched from feces were used to characterize the gut DNA viromes of wild and captive Himalayan vultures. Results In total, 22,938 unique viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs) were identified and assigned to 140 viral genera in 41 viral families. These families included viruses associated with bacteria, animals, plants, insects, and archaea. Phage communities, including Siphoviridae, Microviridae, Myoviridae, Inoviridae, and Herelleviridae, dominated the gut virome of Himalayan vultures. Wild vultures exhibited higher viral richness and diversity compared with those in captivity. The functional capacity of the gut virome was characterized by identifying 93 KEGG pathways, which were significantly enriched in metabolism and genetic information processing. Abundant auxiliary metabolic genes, such as carbohydrate-active enzyme, and antibiotic resistance genes, were also found in the vultures' gut virome. Discussion Our findings reveal the complex and diverse viral community present in the gut virome of Himalayan vultures, which varies between wild, and captive states. The DNA virome dataset establishes a baseline for the vultures' gut virome and will serve as a reference for future virus isolation and cultivation. Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential predictive significance of atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) for cardiovascular outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), with low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) below 1.8mmol/L, has not been well explored. METHODS The retrospective cohort analysis included 1,133 patients with ACS and LDL-C levels below 1.8mmol/L who underwent PCI. AIP is calculated as log (triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol). Patients were divided into two groups according to the median value of AIP. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs), a composite of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke or unplanned repeat revascularization. The association between AIP and the prevalence of MACCE was evaluated using multivariable Cox proportional hazard models. RESULTS Over a median follow-up of 26 months, the incidence of MACCE was higher in the high AIP group compared to the low AIP group (9.6% vs. 6.0%, P log-rank = 0.020), and the difference was mainly derived from an increased risk of unplanned repeat revascularization (7.6% vs. 4.6%, P log-rank = 0.028). After adjusting for multiple variables, elevated AIP was independently associated with an increased risk of MACCE, regardless of whether AIP was considered a nominal or continuous variable (hazard ratio [HR] 1.62, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.04-2.53 or HR 2.01, 95% CI 1.09-3.73). CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrates that AIP is a significant predictor of adverse outcomes in ACS patients undergoing PCI with LDL-C < 1.8mmol/L. These results suggest that AIP may offer supplementary prognostic information for ACS patients with optimally managed LDL-C levels.

Abstract
There has been a long-standing debate about the mechanism of the unusual superconductivity in alkali-intercalated fullerides. In this Letter, using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we systematically investigate the electronic structures of superconducting K_{3}C_{60} thin films. We observe a dispersive energy band crossing the Fermi level with the occupied bandwidth of about 130 meV. The measured band structure shows prominent quasiparticle kinks and a replica band involving the Jahn-Teller active phonon modes, which reflects strong electron-phonon coupling in the system. The electron-phonon coupling constant is estimated to be about 1.2, which dominates the quasiparticle mass renormalization. Moreover, we observe an isotropic nodeless superconducting gap beyond the mean-field estimation (2Δ/k_{B}T_{c}≈5). Both the large electron-phonon coupling constant and large reduced superconducting gap suggest a strong-coupling superconductivity in K_{3}C_{60}, while the electronic correlation effect is suggested by the observation of a waterfall-like band dispersion and the small bandwidth compared with the effective Coulomb interaction. Our results not only directly visualize the crucial band structure but also provide important insights into the mechanism of the unusual superconductivity of fulleride compounds.

Abstract
Human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) encodes 37 essential genes and plays a critical role in mitochondrial and cellular functions. mtDNA is susceptible to damage by endogenous and exogenous chemicals. Damaged mtDNA molecules are counteracted by the redundancy, repair, and degradation of mtDNA. In response to difficult-to-repair or excessive amounts of DNA lesions, mtDNA degradation is a crucial mitochondrial genome maintenance mechanism. Nevertheless, the molecular basis of mtDNA degradation remains incompletely understood. Recently, mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) has emerged as a factor in degrading damaged mtDNA containing abasic (AP) sites. TFAM has AP-lyase activity, which cleaves DNA at AP sites. Human TFAM and its homologs contain a higher abundance of Glu than that of the proteome. To decipher the role of Glu in TFAM-catalyzed AP-DNA cleavage, we constructed TFAM variants and used biochemical assays, kinetic simulations, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to probe the functional importance of E187 near a key residue K186. Our previous studies showed that K186 is a primary residue to cleave AP-DNA via Schiff base chemistry. Here, we demonstrate that E187 facilitates β-elimination, key to AP-DNA strand scission. MD simulations showed that extrahelical confirmation of the AP lesion and the flexibility of E187 in TFAM-DNA complexes facilitate AP-lyase reactions. Together, highly abundant Lys and Glu residues in TFAM promote AP-DNA strand scission, supporting the role of TFAM in AP-DNA turnover and implying the breadth of this process across different species.

Abstract
UV-B is an important light condition for inducing anthocyanin synthesis in plants. Plants have corresponding photoreceptors such as UV RESISTANCE LOCUS8 (UVR8) and transduce light signals to the nucleus, which regulate the expression of structural and regulatory genes for anthocyanin synthesis through members such as ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5 (HY5), thereby increasing or decreasing anthocyanin accumulation. At the same time, excessive UV-B irradiation (artificial light experiments or extreme environmental conditions) is a light stress for plants, which can damage plants and cause DNA damage or even cell death and other adverse effects. In addition, the effect of UV-B on anthocyanin accumulation in plants is usually combined with other abiotic factors, including other wavelengths of light, water deficit conditions, high or low temperatures, and heavy metal ions, all of which cause plants to change their anthocyanin accumulation in time to adapt to variable survival conditions. The review aims to bring together our understanding of the interactions between UV-B and anthocyanins, which can help further the development of the anthocyanin industry.

Abstract
The mass absorption efficiency (MAE) of black carbon (BC) could be amplified by both internal mixing and the lensing effect from non-absorbing coating, which could intensify the global warming effect of BC. In this study, a two-year-long continuous campaign with measurements of aerosol optical properties and chemical composition were conducted in Nanjing, a typical polluted city in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. Relatively large MAE values were observed in 2016, and the high BC internal mixing level could be the main cause. The strong positive correlation between the ratio of non-absorbing particulate matter (NAPM) over elemental carbon (EC) and the MAE value indicated that the coating thickness of BC largely promotes its light absorption ability. The impacts of chemical component coating on MAE amplification in autumn and winter were greater than in other seasons. Multiple linear regression was performed to estimate the MAE amplification effect by internal mixing and the coating of different chemical components. Nitrate coating had the strongest impact on MAE amplification, followed by organic matter. The effects of organic matter and nitrate coatings on MAE amplification increased with the internal mixing index (IMI). Based on the positive matrix factorization (PMF) model, it was found that large decrease in the contribution of industrial emissions and coal combustion to PM2.5 from 2016 to 2017 was the main cause for MAE reduction. The novel statistical model developed in this study could be a useful tool to separate the impacts of internal mixing and non-absorbing coating.

Abstract
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with sub-micrometer spatial resolution (μ-ARPES), has become a powerful tool for studying quantum materials. To achieve sub-micrometer or even nanometer-scale spatial resolution, it is important to focus the incident light beam (usually from synchrotron radiation) using x-ray optics, such as the zone plate or ellipsoidal capillary mirrors. Recently, we developed a laser-based μ-ARPES with spin-resolution (LMS-ARPES). The 177 nm laser beam is achieved by frequency-doubling a 355 nm beam using a KBBF crystal and subsequently focused using an optical lens with a focal length of about 16 mm. By characterizing the focused spot size using different methods and performing spatial-scanning photoemission measurement, we confirm the sub-micron spatial resolution of the system. Compared with the μ-ARPES facilities based on the synchrotron radiation, our LMS-ARPES system is not only more economical and convenient, but also with higher photon flux (>5 × 1013 photons/s), thus enabling the high-resolution and high-statistics measurements. Moreover, the system is equipped with a two-dimensional spin detector based on exchange scattering at a surface-passivated iron film grown on a W(100) substrate. We investigate the spin structure of the prototype topological insulator Bi2Se3 and reveal a high spin-polarization rate, confirming its spin-momentum locking property. This lab-based LMS-ARPES will be a powerful research tool for studying the local fine electronic structures of different condensed matter systems, including topological quantum materials, mesoscopic materials and structures, and phase-separated materials.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the vision-specific and cancer-specific quality of life (QOL) between patients with and without ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHCT). METHODS This cross-sectional observational study analyzed 142 patients after alloHCT including 94 patients with oGVHD and 48 without. oGVHD was diagnosed according to International Chronic Ocular GVHD Consensus Group (ICOGCG) criteria. QOL was assessed by using the 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ-25) and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30). RESULTS Compared with non-oGVHD patients, patients with oGVHD had worse vision-specific (NEI VFQ-25: 64.3 ± 20.3 vs. 77.6 ± 19.3, P < 0.001) and cancer-specific (EORTC QLQ-C30: 59.9 ± 20.3 vs. 67.4 ± 17.5, P = 0.03) QOL, as well as impaired cognitive function (72.7 ± 22.1 vs. 82.3 ± 19.0, P = 0.01). The vision-specific QOL was significantly correlated with ICOGCG score (β = - 1.88, 95%CI: - 3.35 to - 0.41, P = 0.01) and post-alloHCT medical expense (β = - 5.70, 95%CI: - 10.35 to - 1.05, P = 0.02), while cancer-specific QOL was strikingly correlated with post-alloHCT medical expense (β = - 9.91, 95%CI: - 14.43 to - 5.39, P < 0.001), frequency of ophthalmic medication (β = - 0.93, 95%CI: - 1.64 to - 0.21, P = 0.01), education (β = - 6.97, 95%CI: - 13.31 to - 0.62, P = 0.03), and peripheral blood stem cell use (β = - 6.42, 95%CI: - 12.59 to - 0.25, P = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS Patients with oGVHD experienced significant impairment in both vision-specific and cancer-specific QOL including cognitive function when compared with those without after alloHCT. Multidimensional QOL assessment should be included in the long-term alloHCT survivorship care.

Abstract
Objective Many surgeons knew the importance of parathyroid gland (PG) in the thyroid surgery, but it was even more difficult to be protected. This study aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the improved method of searching inferior parathyroid gland (IPG). Methods 213 patients were enrolled and divided into test and control groups according to different methods of searching IPG in the surgery. Consequently, we compared the surgical outcome parameters between the two groups, including the operative time, numbers of PG identifying (PG protection in situ, PG auto-transplantation, and PG accidental removal), numbers of the total lymph node (LN) and metastatic LN, parathyroid hormone (PTH), transient hypoparathyroidism, transient recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy, and postoperative bleeding. Results We identified 194 (194/196, 98.98%) and 215 (215/230, 93.48%) PGs in the test group and control group, respectively, and there was a significant difference (P = 0.005), and this result was due to IPG identification differences (96/98, 97.96% vs. 100/115, 86.96%, P = 0.004). Meanwhile, there was a lower ratio of IPG auto-transplantation in the test group compared with that in the control group (46.94% vs. 64.35%, P = 0.013). Serum PTH one day after the operation was 3.65 ± 1.86 vs. 2.96 ± 1.64 (P = 0.043) but with no difference at 6 months. There were no differences in metastatic LN and recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy between two groups. Conclusion The improved method of searching IPG was simple, efficient, and safe, which was easy to be implemented for searching IPG and protecting it well.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The study aimed to explore the association of serum 25(OH)D3 and hepatic steatosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients and to determine whether the effect of vitamin D (VD) is mediated by activation of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) pathway. METHODS The study contained a case-control study, in vivo and in vitro experiments. A case-control study was conducted to compare serum parameters between NAFLD patients and controls and to evaluate the association of 25(OH)D3 and NAFLD. In vivo study, male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control and model groups, fed a standard chow diet and a high-fat diet (HFD), respectively, for 7 weeks to generate an NAFLD model. Then, the rats were treated with VD and a PPARα antagonist (MK886) for 7 weeks. Tissue and serum were collected and assessed by biochemical assays, morphological analysis, histological analysis, and western blot analysis. In vitro, HepG2 cells were incubated with oleic acid (OA) to induce steatosis, which was evaluated by staining. HepG2 cells were pretreated with MK886 followed by calcitriol treatment, and differences in lipid metabolism-related proteins were detected by western blot. RESULTS NAFLD patients were characterized by impaired liver function, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance. Serum 25(OH)D3 was negatively associated with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in NAFLD. VD deficiency was a risk factor for patients with no advanced fibrosis. Adequate VD status (25(OH)D3 >20 ng/mL) had a protective effect in patients after adjustment for confounding variables. NAFLD rats showed hyperlipidemia with severe hepatic steatosis, systematic inflammation, and lower serum 25(OH)D3. VD treatment ameliorated hepatic steatosis both in NAFLD rats and OA-induced HepG2 cells. Further, MK886 inhibited the anti-steatosis effect of VD. CONCLUSION The study revealed that an adequate VD level may act as a protective factor in NAFLD and that VD may alleviate hepatic steatosis via the PPARα signaling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The associations between the long-term triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index level and variability and clinical outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) have not been well studied. METHODS A total of 1,694 ACS patients with at least three postbaseline TyG index measurements within 2 years after PCI were included in the present study. The TyG index was defined as ln (fasting triglycerides [mg/dL] × fasting plasma glucose [mg/dL]/2). Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazard models were used to examine the association between baseline and mean TyG index levels and TyG index variability and the risk of major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs). RESULTS During the median follow-up of 31 months, the overall incidence of MACCE was 5.9%. Both high baseline and mean TyG index levels were independently associated with an increased risk of MACCEs after adjustment for multiple potential confounders (hazard ratio [HR) 1.76 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.06-2.93; and HR 2.73 95% CI 1.57-4.74). Similarly, higher TyG index variability by successive variation (SD) was well related to a higher prevalence of MACCEs (HR 2.17 95% CI 1.28-3.68). In addition, the mean TyG index level showed a stronger risk prediction for MACCEs than the baseline TyG index level and TyG index-SD (AUCs 0.618 vs 0.566 vs 0.566). CONCLUSIONS The risk of MACCEs significantly increased with higher baseline and mean TyG index levels, as well as TyG index variability, in patients with ACS undergoing PCI. In particular, the mean TyG index level exhibited the highest predicting ability for MACCEs. Therefore, monitoring the long-term pattern of the TyG index deserves attention in clinical practice.

Abstract
Morphine is the most common drug of choice in clinical pain management; however, morphine tolerance presents a significant clinical challenge. The pathogenesis of morphine tolerance is known to be closely associated with angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1R) in microglia. As an AT1R antagonist, candesartan may serve an important role in regulating morphine tolerance. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the role of candesartan in morphine tolerance, and to explore the underlying mechanism. To meet this aim, BV2 microglial cells were treated with morphine or candesartan alone, or as a combination, and the expression levels of AT1R in BV2 cells were detected by reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR (RT‑qPCR) and western blotting. The levels of the inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor‑α, interleukin (IL)‑1β and IL‑6 were subsequently detected by ELISA and western blotting. In addition, immunofluorescence analysis, western blotting and RT‑qPCR were used to detect the expression levels of the BV2 cell activation marker, ionized calcium‑binding adaptor molecule 1 (IBA‑1). Western blotting was also used to detect the expression levels of peroxisome proliferator‑activated receptor‑γ/AMP‑activated protein kinase (PPARγ/AMPK) signaling pathway‑associated proteins. Finally, the cells were treated with the PPARγ antagonist GW9662 and the AMPK inhibitor compound C to further explore the mechanism underlying the effects of candesartan on improving morphine tolerance. The expression levels of AT1R were revealed to be significantly increased following morphine induction; however, candesartan treatment inhibited the expression levels of AT1R, the levels of inflammatory cytokines and the protein expression levels of IBA‑1 in morphine‑induced BV2 cells in a dose‑dependent manner. These processes may be associated with activation of the PPARγ/AMPK signaling pathway. Taken together, the present study revealed that treatment with candesartan reduced morphine‑induced inflammatory response and cellular activation of BV2 cells via PPARγ/AMPK signaling.

Abstract
Getah virus (GETV) is a mosquito-borne, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA virus belonging to the genus Alphavirus of the family Togaviridae. Natural infections of GETV have been identified in a variety of vertebrate species, with pathogenicity mainly in swine, horses, bovines, and foxes. The increasing spectrum of infection and the characteristic causing abortions in pregnant animals pose a serious threat to public health and the livestock economy. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish a method that can be used for epidemiological investigation in multiple animals. In this study, a real-time reverse transcription fluorescent quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) method combined with plaque assay was established for GETV with specific primers designed for the highly conserved region of GETV Nsp1 gene. The results showed that after optimizing the condition of RT-qPCR reaction, the minimum detection limit of the assay established in this study was 7.73 PFU/mL, and there was a good linear relationship between viral load and Cq value with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.998. Moreover, the method has good specificity, sensitivity, and repeatability. The established RT-qPCR is 100-fold more sensitive than the conventional RT-PCR. The best cutoff value for the method was determined to be 37.59 by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.956. Meanwhile, we collected 2,847 serum specimens from swine, horses, bovines, sheep, and 17,080 mosquito specimens in Shandong Province in 2022. The positive detection rates by RT-qPCR were 1%, 1%, 0.2%, 0%, and 3%, respectively. In conclusion, the method was used for epidemiological investigation, which has extensive application prospects.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) ordered porous carbon is generally believed to be a promising electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing material. However, most research works targeted performance improvement of 3D ordered porous carbon, and the specific attenuation mechanism is still ambiguous. Therefore, in this work, a novel ultra-light egg-derived porous carbon foam (EDCF) structure has been successfully constructed by a simple carbonization combined with the silica microsphere template-etching process. Based on an equivalent substitute strategy, the influence of pore volume and specific surface area on the electromagnetic parameters and EMW absorption properties of the EDCF products was confirmed respectively by adjusting the addition content and diameter of silica microspheres. As a primary attenuation mode, the dielectric loss originates from the comprehensive effect of conduction loss and polarization loss in S-band and C band, and the value is dominated by polarization loss in X band and Ku band, which is obviously greater than that of conduction loss. Furthermore, in all samples, the largest effective absorption bandwidth of EDCF-3 is 7.12 GHz under the thickness of 2.13 mm with the filling content of approximately 5 wt%, covering the whole Ku band. Meanwhile, the EDCF-7 sample with optimized pore volume and specific surface area achieves minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of - 58.08 dB at 16.86 GHz while the thickness is 1.27 mm. The outstanding research results not only provide a novel insight into enhancement of EMW absorption properties but also clarify the dominant dissipation mechanism for the porous carbon-based absorber from the perspective of objective experiments.

Abstract
Background After allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), patients are followed up by transplant clinicians. Finding an effective primary screening method that transplant clinicians or patients can master is essential in the early referral of suspected chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease (coGVHD) to an ophthalmologist. This study investigated if the ocular surface disease index (OSDI) questionnaire could be used for coGVHD primary screening. Methods This case-controlled, cross-sectional study enrolled 161 allo-HSCT patients. All participants completed an OSDI questionnaire and underwent a silt-lamp examination. Bulbar conjunctival injection (BCI) was assessed using torchlight, while tear volume was measured via the Schirmer test (ST). The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, and cutoff values of OSDI, ST, and BCI grading. Performance comparisons of the 3 tests applied in isolation, parallel, and series were made. Results There were 84 patients with and 77 patients without coGVHD. Compared to those without coGVHD, patients with coGVHD had significantly higher median values of OSDI, corneal fluorescein staining, conjunctival injection, conjunctival fibrosis, and meibum quality, but lower ST scores (All P values <0.001). The cutoff values for OSDI, ST, and BCI grade in the diagnosis of coGVHD were 19.4 points, 7 mm, and grade 0, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of the tests based on the cutoff values were, respectively, 89.3% and 89.6% for OSDI, 91.7% and 59.7% for ST, and 78.6% and 70.1% for BCI. The area under the curve (AUC) value of OSDI was significantly higher than that of ST (0.931 vs. 0.826; P=0.010) and BCI grade (0.931 vs. 0.781; P<0.001). The AUC values of the combinations were lower than that of OSDI alone. Conclusions The OSDI questionnaire can be used as a simple screening test for coGVHD as demonstrated by its high sensitivity and specificity in the transplant clinic and patients’ self-monitoring. An OSDI greater than 19.4 could be considered an ophthalmology referral criterion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study compares the present status and traits of urology residency programs in the United States and China. METHODS The flow path, structure, curriculum, operative experience, scholarly activities, evaluation systems and other aspects of training were comparatively evaluated between China and the United States. RESULTS Urology residency training programs are different between China and the United States in many aspects. Admission requirements for the United States urology residency program are more rigorous, and the specialty training program in the United States is more concentrated. Furthermore, residency programs in USA have much more practical clinical and research training, and their evaluation process is more diverse, and it has been designed to assess competencies. Moreover, job opportunities after residency substantially differ between these two countries. Becoming an independent urologic surgeon is not the specific goal of the Urology residency training program in China, and it would require more training time than in the United States. CONCLUSION Urology residency training programs in the United States and China have a unique format and characteristics. The training programs in China are focused on general techniques and procedures, while training programs in USA follow a more standardized curriculum. Both USA and China may complement each other to create training programs that would ultimately provide high-quality patient care.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the characteristics of the ocular surface microbiome in patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and the associations between the microbial dysbiosis and chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD). DESIGN Prospective cohort study. METHODS Ocular surface samples from 48 healthy subjects and 76 patients after allo-HSCT, including 50 patients with chronic oGVHD and 26 patients without oGVHD were collected. Species-level composition of the ocular surface microbiome was surveyed via metagenomic shotgun sequencing. OGVHD was diagnosed and graded according to the International Chronic Ocular GVHD (ICO) Consensus Group criteria. RESULTS The α-diversity of the microbiota was significantly decreased in patients after allo-HSCT. Nevertheless, we detected more types of viral species in the allo-HSCT group than the healthy group, especially anelloviruses. The mismatch of donor-recipient sex was only negatively associated with the α-diversity in male but not female recipients. Moreover, the microbiome of oGVHD patients was distinct from non-oGVHD patients. Gordonia bronchialis and Pseudomonas parafulva were enriched in oGVHD patients and positively associated with ICO score. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that the ocular surface microbiome after allo-HSCT is characterized by a loss of diversity. Furthermore, the microbial dysbiosis at the ocular surface is associated with the status and severity of chronic oGVHD. These results lay the groundwork for future investigations of the potential microbial mechanism for oGVHD.

Abstract
This study reports the release behaviors, enrichment characteristics, contamination level, and health risk of twenty-one elements in biomass, when dry distillation, incomplete combustion, and sufficient combustion. Results indicate that the element concentration in different kinds of biomass varies greatly. Even for the same kind of biomass, concentration in three products of dry distillation, incomplete combustion, and sufficient combustion is also different: fifteen elements (K, Ca, Mg, Al, Fe, Mn, B, Cu, Zn, Mo, Cd, Cr, Pb, Sb, Sn) have no significant difference in concentration but other six elements (As, Co, Ni, V, Na, P) are the opposite. Multivariate statistical approaches were used to assess five significant factors which affect element concentration, suggesting the contributes from biomass type, moisture content, soil, biomass age or organ, and disposal methods. Disposal methods and biomass type result in significant differences in element enrichment factor. More elements will release during sufficient combustion rather than dry distillation. The increasing of supplied oxygen during disposal process may increase the overall toxicity from elements release. The data of excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) suggests that Cr, Ni, Co, Cd, and Pb are the largest contributors to cancer risks during biomass application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prophylactic central lymph node dissection (PCND) was a basic consensus for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in China. However, unilateral or bilateral central lymph node dissection (CND) was still controversial. This study aimed at investigating the safety and long-term benefit for the patients undergone with bilateral central lymph node dissection (BCCD). METHODS 581 patients were enrolled and divided randomly into the test and control groups according to range of CND. 285 patients were prospectively assigned to undergo thyroid lobectomy plus BCND in the test group, other 296 patients were assigned to undergo thyroid lobectomy plus ipsilateral central lymph node dissection (ICND) in the control group. RESULTS We found that the numbers of total LN and pN1a in the test group were more than that of the control group (p = 0.002,0.004), but there was no difference in the number of metastasized lymph nodes (p = 0.857) and tumor recurrence (p = 0.308). Additionally, in the aspect of postoperative complication (1 day after surgery), the serum levels of parathyroid hormone in the BCND group were lower than that in the ICND group (P = 0.010), and the numbers of transient laryngeal nerve palsy were more than that(p = 0.033). Meanwhile, we further found that pathological tumor size larger than 1 cm and tumor side lymph node metastasis were independent risk factors for contralateral central lymph node metastasis(p = 0.002,0.001). CONCLUSION BCND may be an alternative for patients with tumor sizes larger than 1 cm, but it would significantly increase the rate of transient vocal cord palsy, parathyroid auto transplantation and decreased PTH, but the risk of permanent complications was similar to the ICND group.

Abstract
The rapid development of China's industrial economy and implementation of air pollution controls have led to great changes in sulfur (S), nitrogen (N) and base cation (BC) deposition in the past three decades. We estimated China's anthropogenic BC emissions and simulated BC deposition from 1985 to 2015 with a five-year interval using a multilayer Eulerian model. Deposition of S and N from 2000 to 2015 with a five-year interval was simulated with the EMEP MSC-W model and the Multi-resolution Emission Inventory of China (MEIC). The critical load (CL) and its exceedance were then calculated to evaluate the potential long-term acidification risks. From 1985 to 2005, the BC deposition in China was estimated to have increased by 16 % and then decreased by 33 % till 2015. S deposition was simulated to increase by 49 % from 2000 to 2005 and then decrease by 44 % in 2015, while N deposition increased by 32 % from 2000 to 2010 with a limited reduction afterward. The maximum CL of S was found to increase in 67 % of mainland China areas from 1985 to 2005 and to decline in 55 % of the areas from 2005 to 2015, attributed largely to the changed BC deposition. Consistent with the progress of national controls on SO2 and NOX emissions, the CL exceedance of S increased from 2.9 to 4.6 Mt during 2000-2005 and then decreased to 2.5 Mt in 2015, while that of N increased from 0.4 in 2000 to 1.2 Mt in 2010 and then decreased to 1.1 Mt in 2015. The reduced BC deposition due to particle emission controls partially offset the benefit of SO2 control on acidification risk reduction in the past decade. It demonstrates the need for a comprehensive strategy for multi-pollutant control against soil acidification.

Abstract
DNA-protein cross-links have broad applications in mapping DNA-protein interactions and provide structural insights into macromolecular structures. However, high-resolution mapping of DNA-interacting amino acid residues with tandem mass spectrometry remains challenging due to difficulties in sample preparation and data analysis. Herein, we developed a method for identifying cross-linking amino residues in DNA-protein cross-links at single amino acid resolution. We leveraged the alkaline lability of ribonucleotides and designed ribonucleotide-containing DNA to produce structurally defined nucleic acid-peptide cross-links under our optimized ribonucleotide cleavage conditions. The structurally defined oligonucleotide-peptide heteroconjugates improved ionization, reduced the database search space, and facilitated the identification of cross-linking residues in peptides. We applied the workflow to identifying abasic (AP) site-interacting residues in human mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM)-DNA cross-links. With sub-nmol sample input, we obtained high-quality fragmentation spectra for nucleic acid-peptide cross-links and identified 14 cross-linked lysine residues with the home-built AP_CrosslinkFinder program. Semi-quantification based on integrated peak areas revealed that K186 of TFAM is the major cross-linking residue, consistent with K186 being the closest (to the AP modification) lysine residue in solved TFAM:DNA crystal structures. Additional cross-linking lysine residues (K69, K76, K136, K154) support the dynamic characteristics of TFAM:DNA complexes. Overall, our combined workflow using ribonucleotide as a chemically cleavable DNA modification together with optimized sample preparation and data analysis offers a simple yet powerful approach for mapping cross-linking sites in DNA-protein cross-links. The method is amendable to other chemical or photo-cross-linking systems and can be extended to complex biological samples.

Abstract
Background Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease during pregnancy. Studies of risk factors are of great significance to maternal and fetal outcomes in patients with TOF. Aims To identify predictive risk factors for maternal and perinatal complications in women with TOF. Subjects and Methods 78 patients with TOF who delivered at Shanghai Obstetrical Cardiology Intensive Care Center between January 1993 and December 2017 were retrospective reviewed. A logistic regression model was used to identify risk factors for maternal and perinatal complications. Results There was no maternal death, five patients developed cardiac failure, sustained arrhythmias requiring treatments were recorded among 2 patients. Factors identified for maternal complications included previous cardiac events and oxygen saturation <90%. Oxygen saturation <90% was found to be independent predictor of maternal cardiac complications (RR = 21.455, 95%CI 2.186-210.572, P = 0.009). The perinatal survival rate was 87.18%, there were 52 term deliveries (66.67%). Perinatal poor outcomes include 9 therapeutic abortions (11.54%), 1 neonatal death (1.28%), 16 premature births (20.51%), 18 small for gestational age children (23.08%), 3 neonatal asphyxia (3.85%), and 3 neonatal cardiac malformations (3.85%). Factors identified for perinatal complications included without cardiac surgery, higher hemoglobin values, higher hematocrit values, oxygen saturation <90%, right ventricular hypertrophy, pulmonary stenosis, ventricular septal defect, and pulmonary hypertension. Oxygen saturation <90% was found to be independent predictor of perinatal complications (RR = 8.270, 95%CI 1.374-49.790, P = 0.021). Conclusions Oxygen saturation <90% is associated with maternal and perinatal risks. Women with TOF whose oxygen saturation <90% are not recommended for pregnancy because of high maternal and perinatal complications.

Abstract
Neuropathic pain associated with cancers was caused by tumor itself or tumor therapy, which was aggravated by sensitizing nociceptor sensory neurons. The tumor microenvironment contributed to tumorigenesis, tumor progress, tumor metastasis, tumor immune resistance, tumor chemotherapy, and tumor immunotherapy. In the current study, we explored the contributions of the infiltrated dendritic cells insulted by Wnt1 in tumor microenvironment to neuropathic pain associated with cancers. The different transcriptome of infiltrated dendritic cells from lung adenocarcinoma and from juxtatumor indicated that thousands of genes were up-regulated by the tumor microenvironment, some of which were enriched in pain pathway. The paracrine factors such as TNF, WNT10A, PDGFA, and NRG1 were also elevated in tumor-infiltrating dendritic cells. The receptors of paracrine factors were highly expressed on dorsal root ganglia (DRG), and not altered in pain conditions. Single-cell RNA-seq data unveiled that TNFSF1 was expressed in neurons, microglial cells, and endothelial cells. PDGFRA was only expressed in microglial cells. ERBB3 was only expressed in neurons. FZD1 and 3 were extensively expressed in various cells. The components composed of signaling pathways associated with the above paracrine factors participated in pain networks. The transcription factors activated by paracrine factor signaling regulated the expression of genes associated with pain. TNF, WNT10A, and PDGFA were extensively expressed in multiple cancers, but their expression in patients did not distribute normally. These data indicated that infiltrated dendritic cells in tumor microenvironment promoted neuropathic pain by sensitizing nociceptor sensory neurons via paracrine factors. Blockage of paracrine factor signaling might alleviate cancer pain.

Abstract
Spoilage of food has aggravated the issue of food shortage worldwide. Here, we report a strategy for ultrafast hydrogel film forming within 10 s on fruit surfaces with good self-matching, washable removal and preservative property. This carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS)/tannic acid (TA) hydrogel film (CTHF) is fabricated by bio-material of CMCS and TA via in-situ rapidly crosslinking with high-density hydrogen bonds. Simply blending TA and CMCS solution at room temperature can form CTHF with different roughness (Ra: ranges from 123 to 1.55 nm) on different fruit surfaces, so as to perfectly match the hydrogel protective layer of pericarp. The CTHF slows down fruit decay by its outstanding antioxidant and antibacterial activity. It is soluble and easily removed (within 3-5 min) by washing without environmental pollution and food safety issues. As natural polymer, CTHF shows high promise as sustainable substitutes for conventional plastics packing because of its non-toxic, edible, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly.

Abstract
Although high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) has greatly advanced small non-coding RNA (sncRNA) discovery, the currently widely used complementary DNA library construction protocol generates biased sequencing results. This is partially due to RNA modifications that interfere with adapter ligation and reverse transcription processes, which prevent the detection of sncRNAs bearing these modifications. Here, we present PANDORA-seq (panoramic RNA display by overcoming RNA modification aborted sequencing), employing a combinatorial enzymatic treatment to remove key RNA modifications that block adapter ligation and reverse transcription. PANDORA-seq identified abundant modified sncRNAs-mostly transfer RNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) and ribosomal RNA-derived small RNAs (rsRNAs)-that were previously undetected, exhibiting tissue-specific expression across mouse brain, liver, spleen and sperm, as well as cell-specific expression across embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and HeLa cells. Using PANDORA-seq, we revealed unprecedented landscapes of microRNA, tsRNA and rsRNA dynamics during the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells. Importantly, tsRNAs and rsRNAs that are downregulated during somatic cell reprogramming impact cellular translation in ESCs, suggesting a role in lineage differentiation.

Abstract
Platygaster robiniae Buhl and Duso (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) is an egg-larvae parasitoid of the black locust gall midge (Obolodiplosis robiniae) (Haldeman) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) which is a serious invasive pest in China, where it attacks an important hardwood species, the black locust tree, Robini pseudoacacia L. (Fabales: Fabaceae). Despite the use of P. robiniae as an effective biocontrol agent, the absence of sequence data and other molecular markers have limited its genetic applications for pest management in forests. Simple-sequence repeats (SSRs) are valuable molecular markers for population genetic structure studies. In the present study, we identified 14,123 SSRs, of which 7799 SSR primer pairs were successfully designed. Subsequently, 240 SSR were chosen and tested with 48 P. robiniae accessions from two geographically separated populations in north and south China. Of these, 34 were polymorphic, with an average of three alleles (Na) and four genotypes (NG) each. The average values of observed heterozygosity (Ho) was 0.3514, expected heterozygosity (He) 0.4167, Shannon's information index (I) 0.7143, and polymorphism information content (PIC) 0.3558, respectively. Neighbour joining analysis (bootstrap 1000) revealed that Chengdu (CD) and Dangdong (DD) popluations clustered into two main divisions, and some individuals from two popluations clustered together as the third devision, which indicated the gene flow and genetic differentiation were present between two populations. Our finding indicates that these SSR markers will be useful for further studies on the genotype identification and genetic mapping of the genus Platygaster.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma at multiple centers in China. Methods: Between December 2015 and August 2019, the clinical data of 143 patients who underwent LRHC in Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, Affiliated Tongji Hospital of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, the First Hospital Affiliated to Army Medical University, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital Affiliated to Medical College of Zhejiang University, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were collected prospectively. There were 92 males and 51 females with age of (64±11) years (range: 53 to 72 years). Bismuth type: type I, 38 cases (26.6%), type Ⅱ, 19 cases (13.3%), type Ⅲa, 15 cases (10.5%), type Ⅲb, 28 cases (19.6%) and type Ⅳ, 43 cases (30.0%). The patients within the first 10 operation cases in each operation time (the first 10 patients in each operation team) were divided into group A (77 cases), and the patients after 10 cases in each operation time were classified as group B (66 cases); the cases with more than 10 cases in the center were further divided into group A(1) (116 cases), and the center with less than 10 cases was set as group A(2) (27 cases). T test or Wilcoxon test was used to compare the measurement data between groups, and the chi square test or Fisher exact probability method was used to compare the counting data between groups. Kaplan Meier curve was used for survival analysis. Results: All patients successfully completed laparoscopic procedure. The mean operation time was (421.3±153.4) minutes (range: 159 to 770 minutes), and the intraoperative blood loss was 100 to 1 500 ml (median was 300 ml) .Recent post-operative complications contained bile leakage, abdominal bleeding, abdominal infection, gastrointestinal bleeding, and delay gastric emptying, pulmonary infection, liver failure, et al.The post-operative hospital stay was (15.9±9.2) days. The operation time in group B was relatively reduced ( (429.5±190.7)minutes vs. (492.3±173.1)minutes, t=2.063, P=0.041) and the blood loss (465 ml vs. 200 ml) was also reduced (Z=2.021, P=0.043) than that in group B. The incidence of postoperative biliary fistula and lung infection in patients in group A was significantly higher than that in group B (χ(2)=4.341, 0.007; P=0.037, 0.047) .Compared with group A(2), the operation time in group A(1) was relatively reduced( (416.3±176.5)minutes vs. (498.1±190.4)minutes, t=2.136, P=0.034) , the incidence of bile leakage and abdominal cavity infection in group A(1) was lower than that in group A(2) (χ(2)=7.537, 3.162; P=0.006, 0.046) . Kaplan Meier survival curve showed that the difference of short-term survival time between group A and group B was statistically significant (P<0.05) . Conclusions: The completion of laparoscopic hilar cholangiocarcinoma radical surgery is based on improved surgical skills, and proficiency in standardized operation procedures.It is feasible for laparoscopic radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma to well experienced surgeon with cases be strictly screened, but it is not recommended for widespread promotion at this exploratory stage.

Abstract
An InDel marker closely linked with a major and stable quantitative trait locus (QTL) on chromosome 4BS, QSnpa.cau-4B, controlling spike number per unit area will benefit wheat yield improvement. Spike number per unit area (SNPA) is an essential yield-related trait, and analyzing its genetic basis is important for cultivar improvement in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). In this study, we used the F2 population derived from a cross between two wheat accessions displaying significant differences in SNPA to perform quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis. Through bulked segregant analysis, a major and stable QTL that explained 18.11-82.11% of the phenotypic variation was identified on chromosome 4BS. The QTL interval was validated using F4:5 and F6:7 families and narrowed it to a 24.91-38.36 Mb region of chromosome 4BS according to the 'Chinese Spring' reference genome sequence. In this region, variations in 16 genes caused amino acid changes and three genes were present in only one parent. Among these, we annotated a gene orthologous to TB1 in maize (Zea mays), namely TraesCS4B01G042700, which carried a 44-bp deletion in its promoter in the higher-SNPA parent. An InDel marker based on the insertion/deletion polymorphism was designed and used to diagnose the allelic distribution within a natural population. The frequency of the 44-bp deletion allele associated with higher SNPA was relatively low (13.24%), implying that this favorable allele has not been widely utilized and could be valuable for wheat yield improvement. In summary, we identified a major and stable QTL for SNPA and developed a diagnostic marker for the more-spiked trait, which will be beneficial for molecular-assisted breeding in wheat.

Abstract
Porcine pancreas lipase (PPL) was immobilized on magnetic multiwalled carbon nanotubes successfully for the synthesis of substituted 2H-chromenes. The catalytic activity of immobilized PPL was much higher than that of free PPL. Effects of reaction medium, temperature, and enzyme dosage were also investigated. Under optimum reaction conditions (acetylacetone (1 mmol), salicylaldehyde (1 equivalent), methanol (10 equivalent), and immobilized PPL (protein content: 30 mg; 65 °C; DMF 5 mL; 5 H), the immobilized PPL showed an excellent catalytic performance on the synthesis of substituted 2H-chromenes. Moreover, the immobilized PPL exhibited satisfactory thermostability, operational simplicity, and reusability in this reaction.
