Effects of Soliton Creation on Transient Transport through a Polymer Chain

By using a nonadiabatic molecular dynamics method combined with the hierarchical equations of motion, we have investigated the nonequilibrium transient transport through a conjugated polymer chain. The polymer chain is described by the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, and its two ends are coupled with metal electrodes of different chemical potentials. In order to present the evolutions of the electronic injection and transport in the real-time domain, we have mainly discussed the dynamic relaxation processes of the excited states and transient transport currents. It is found that due to the existence of electron-phonon couplings in the conjugated polymers, creation of solitons not only affects the time of the system achieving the steady state but also leads to periodical oscillations of the steady-state transport currents with time in our simulations. Furthermore, with increasing applied bias voltage, the steady-state transport electronic current increases, which proved that the creation of the solitons can assist the electronic transport. These results have shown that the creation of the excited states is important in understanding the transport properties in organic nanostructures.

Furfural Derivatives and Phenolic Constituents in Stemona tuberosa Lour

Chemical investigation on the water-soluble constituents of Stemona tuberosa Lour. resulted in the isolation of a previously undescribed furfural derivative namely (S)-5-((R)-hydroxy(5-(hydroxymethyl)furan-2-yl)methyl)-5-methylfuran-2(5H)-one and twenty-five known compounds from the water decoction of the dried root tubers. Their structures were determined by analysis of the extensive spectroscopic data, including 1D/2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and ORD, as well as the ECD simulation and comparison. Most of them were phenolic and among them, four compounds were isolated from Stemona plants for the first time. This study uncovers diverse constituents from water decoction of S. tuberosa dedicated for its quality control and allows for the exploitation of chemical markers with potential significance for discrimination of Stemona plants.

[Study on protective effects and mechanisms of total glucosides of Paeony on Graves disease in BALB/c mice]

Objective: To investigate the protective effect and its immunoregulatory mechanism of Total Glucosides of Paeony (TGP) against Graves' Disease (GD) model on BALB/c mice. Methods: Fifty female (6 weeks old, weighing 16-18 g) BALB/c mice of specific pathogen free were divided into control group according to random number table method, model group, early low-dose TGP intervention group (250 mg·kg^-1·d^-1), early high-dose TGP intervention group (500 mg·kg^-1·d^-1), and late TGP intervention group, with 10 mice in each group. Except the control group, the other 4 groups were immunized 3 times (0, 3^rd, and 6^th week) with recombinant adenovirus expressing the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) A subunit to establish the GD model. The early low-dose and high-dose intervention group were given diets containing different doses of TGP throughout the whole process, and the late intervention group was given diets containing low doses of TGP from the 1^st week after the 2^nd immunization (week 4). The levels of thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) and total thyroxine (TT4) were detected in the tail venous blood of mice at the 4^th week. At the 10^th week, the serum TRAb and TT4 levels and the ratio of regulatory T cells (Treg) in each group were detected, and the pathological changes of thyroid tissue were observed. Serum helper T cell 1(Th1) and Th2 cell-related factors interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-12p70, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factors-α (TNF-α) were detected to investigate the protective effect of TGP on GD model in BALB/c mice and its mechanism. Results: At the 4^th week, The level of TT4 [(55.07±12.89) μg/L] in early high-dose intervention group was lower than that in model group [(74.33±8.63) μg/L] (all P<0.05). The level of TT4 in early low-dose intervention group and late intervention group and model group had no statistical significance (all P>0.05). TRAb level of mice between early low-dose, early high-dose, late intervention groups and model group was no significant difference (all P>0.05). At the 10^th week, TRAb [(90.00±26.89) U/L] and TT4[(32.66±8.11) μg/L] levels in the early high-dose intervention group were lower than those in the model group [(396.97±95.35) U/L, (73.70±16.33) μg/L] (all P<0.05). The TRAb and TT4 levels in the early low-dose intervention group and late intervention group were not significantly different from those in the model group (all P>0.05). The thyroid tissue of hyperthyroidism mice in the early high dose intervention group showed focal hypertrophic changes, while the thyroid tissue of other hyperthyroidism mice showed diffuse hypertrophic changes. The CD4⁺CD25⁺/CD4⁺Treg ratio in early high-dose intervention group was higher than that in model group at the 10^th week (4 weeks after three recombinant adenovirus immunization) (P<0.05). Compared with the model group at the 10^th week, the levels of IL-2, IL-12p70 and IFN-γ in the early high-dose intervention group were all decreased (all P<0.05), and the levels of IL-10 were increased (P<0.05). Conclusion: Early high-dose (500 mg·kg^-1·d^-1) TGP intervention group displays a protective effect against GD mice, the mechanism of which may be related to regulatory T cell function changes and Th1/Th2 cytokine balance restoration.

[Effect of methylene blue labeling on therapeutic effect and prognosis of gastric cancer patients in D2 radical gastrectomy under laparoscope]

Objective: To investigate the effect of methylene blue tracing on the effect of surgical resection and the prognosis of gastric cancer patients in D2 radical surgery under laparoscope. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 160 patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent surgical treatment in Xinxiang Central Hospital, the 4th Clinical College of Xinxiang Medical College from January 2016 to January 2019 were selected for retrospective analysis. Among them, 84 patients underwent laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer combined with methylene blue labeling operation (labeling group), and the other 76 patients underwent only laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer (control group). The difference of intraoperative and postoperative recovery, lymph node dissection, and postoperative 3-year cumulative survival rate between the two groups were analyzed. Results: The age of patients in the labeled group and the control group were (64.9±7.8) and (66.0±8.3) years old, respectively (P=0.389); And the male patients accounted for 61.9% (52 cases) and 55.3% (42 cases), respectively (P=0.394); The operation time in the labeled group was (218.5±19.6) min, which was shorter than that in the control group (230.1±17.4) min (P<0.001). There was no significant difference between the labeled group and the control group in the amount of bleeding during operation, the time of anal exhaust after operation, the time of eating after operation, the time of hospitalization after operation, and the average diameter of lymph nodes (P>0.05). The total number of dissected lymph nodes, D1 lymph nodes and D2 lymph nodes in the labeled group were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P values<0.05). The operative complication rate in the labeled group was 11.9% (10 cases), which was lower than that in the control group (25.0%, 19 cases) (P=0.032); There was no statistical significance in 3-year cumulative survival rates of patients between the labeled group (61.9%) and the control group (52.6%) (χ²=3.46,P=0.065). Conclusion: The use of methylene blue tracing in laparoscopic D2 radical surgery for gastric cancer is beneficial to reduce the operation time, improve the lymph node clearance rate, and reduce surgical complications.

Multi-scale variations and impact factors of carbon emission intensity in China

China's carbon emissions have developed swiftly in recent decades, which will not only affect the nation's own sustainable development, but have a potentially negative impact on global climate stability. Given that socioeconomic development is susceptible to regional heterogeneity and geographic scales, a systematic exploration of spatiotemporal variations of carbon emission intensity (CEI) and their drivers across different levels is conducive to enacting more reasonable and efficient measures for emission reduction. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive analysis of these issues. In this paper, we attempted to quantify and compare the spatiotemporal evolution and spatial spillover effects of impact factors on CEI from nighttime light imagery and socioeconomic data at two China's administrative levels by utilizing the variation coefficient, spatial autocorrelation model and spatial econometric methods. The results showed that the spatiotemporal variations of CEI were greater at the prefecture level compared to the provincial level during 2000-2017. There were significant positive spatial autocorrelation of CEI at two administrative levels, and self-reinforcing agglomeration was more substantial at the prefectural level than that provincial level. While the local spatial clustering of CEI of each administrative level altered with scale dependence, the binary spatial structure (High-High and Low-Low) of CEI remained relatively steady in China. Various driver factors not only had direct effects on local CEI, but had spatial spillover effects on neighboring areas. Our findings illustrate that China's CEI is sensitive to the space-time hierarchy of multi-mechanisms, and suggest that "proceed in the light of local conditions" strategies can assist the Chinese government for CEI mitigation.

Base MRI Imaging Characteristics of Meningioma Patients to Discuss the WHO Classification of Brain Invasion Otherwise Benign Meningiomas

PURPOSE

Compared and analyzed the MRI imaging features of brain invasion otherwise benign (BIOB) meningiomas and WHO grade 1, grade 2 meningiomas, discussed the WHO grading of BIOB from the perspective of imaging.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A retrospective analysis was performed on 675 meningiomas patients who carried on MRI examination from January 2006 to February 2022. Setting the 2022 Central nervous system (CNS) WHO Guidelines as the gold standard for pathological diagnosis. Statistical analysis of age, gender, and MRI features of meningiomas in relation to WHO grade and brain invasion.

RESULTS

Among 675 cases meningiomas, 543 (80.4%) were WHO grade 1, 123 (18.2%) were WHO grade 2, and 9 (1.3%) were WHO grade 3. There were 108 cases meningiomas with brain invasion (BI) (16.0%) and 567 cases without BI (84.0%). Among BI cases, 67 cases were BIOB. Compared the MRI features between BIOB and WHO grade 1 meningiomas, multivariate analysis demonstrated that the most strongly factors associated with distinguish them were enhancement degree, peritumoral edema, tumor-brain interface, fingerlike protrusion, mushroom sign, and bone invasion (AUC: 0.925 (0.901∼0.945), sensitivity: 0.925, specificity: 0.801). Compared the MRI features between BIOB and WHO grade 2 meningiomas, multivariate analysis demonstrated that the most strongly factors associated with distinguish them were enhancement degree and the tumor-brain interface (AUC: 0.779 (0.686∼0.841), sensitivity: 0.746, specificity: 0.732), their efficacy was slightly weaker.

CONCLUSIONS

BIOB is more similar to WHO grade 2 meningiomas in clinical and imaging features than WHO grade 1, so we think that it may be reasonable to classify BIOB as WHO Grade 2 meningiomas in the guidelines.

[The prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with different types of acute ischemic stroke and its relationship with cryptogenic stroke]

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with different types of acute ischemic stroke and its relationship with cryptogenic stroke. Methods: Patients with acute ischemic stroke within 7 days of onset who were admitted to the Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January to September 2019 were prospectively and consecutively enrolled. All included patients were classified according to TOAST classification of ischemic stroke. Chi-square test was used to compare the prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy among patients with different TOAST classifications. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of cryptogenic stroke. Results: A total of 1 098 patients with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled in the study, including 661 males and 437 females, with a median age [M(Q₁,Q₃)] of 61 (53, 68) years. The prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with cryptogenic stroke[53.5% (46/86)] was higher than that in patients with large artery atherosclerosis [38.0%(63/166), P=0.018] and small vessel occlusion [19.4%(37/191), P<0.001], but was lower than that of patients in the cardioembolic group [97.3% (72/74), P<0.001]. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that atrial cardiomyopathy was an associated factor for cryptogenic stroke (OR=2.945, 95%CI: 1.766-4.911, P<0.001). Conclusions: Atrial cardiomyopathy is associated with cryptogenic stroke. The prevalence of atrial cardiomyopathy in patients with cryptogenic stroke is higher than that in patients with large artery atherosclerosis and small vessel occlusion, but lower than that in patients with cardiac embolism.

[The impact of the dosage of intraoperative opioids on postoperative survival outcomes in patients with pancreatic cancer]

Objective: To investigate the impact of the dosage of intraoperative opioids on postoperative survival of pancreatic cancer patients who underwent pancreatectomy. Methods: The clinical data of 95 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent pancreatectomy at Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital from September 2013 to August 2018 were retrospectively collected. Dosage of intraoperative opioid medications was converted to fentanyl equivalent dose. Patients were divided into high-dose group (fentanyl consumption ≥2.21 mg, n=46) and low-dose group (fentanyl consumption<2.21 mg, n=49) according to the median intra-operative fentanyl equivalents. The relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) between the two groups were compared. Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to analyze the impact of important covariates on RFS and OS. Results: RFS of patients in low-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 75.5%, 26.5% and 15.2% respectively. OS of patients in low-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 77.6%, 32.5% and 24.4% respectively. RFS of patients in high-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 76.1%, 23.9% and 12.0% respectively. OS of patients in high-dose group at 1, 3 and 5 years was 76.1%, 37.0% and 15.0%. There was no significant difference in RFS and OS between the two groups (all P>0.05). Multivariate Cox analysis showed that dosage of intraoperative fentanyl was not associated with RFS (HR=1.205, 95%CI: 0.737-1.970, P=0.456) or OS (HR=1.062, 95%CI: 0.634-1.778, P=0.818). Conclusion: Dosage of intraoperative opioid has no effect on RFS and OS in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing pancreatectomy.

Hydrothermal synthesis and controlled growth of group-VIB W metal compound nanostructures from tungsten oxide to tungsten disulphide

Two-dimensional lateral group-VIB transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted much attention in the fast evolving field of advanced photoelectric functional materials, but their controllable fabrication is challenging. Herein, an emerging synthetic route for sulfurization of tungsten oxide was developed. During the hydrothermal reaction, the optimization of the precursor selection and synthesis parameters led to the tunable properties of WO₃-WS_xO_y-WS₂ nanostructures. The vulcanization was thermodynamically favorably at low temperatures and in an environment with a sufficient S source, wherein WO₃ was reduced by H atoms to WO_3-x, and S atoms were preferentially adsorbed on O vacancies. The WS_xO_y nanostructures have a narrow band-gap attributed to the effect of S on the valence band top and electronic density of states by density functional theory. The photocurrent response and charge transfer properties of WS_xO_y were improved due to the charge transport between WS₂ and WO₃. Understanding the formation and transformation of WS₂ nanostructures in solution contributes to the discovery of the important structure-efficiency relationship, which may be extended to other TMDs systems. Hence, extensive research efforts are still needed to develop safer and more efficient synthesis and modification methods to fully utilize the distinctive advantageous properties of TMDs in the photoelectric field.

[Effects of composite laser technique combined with multipoint microinjection of triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of hypertrophic scars in burn children]

Objective: To explore the effects of pulsed dye laser (PDL) and ultra-pulsed fractional carbon dioxide laser (UFCL) combined with multipoint microinjection of triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of red hypertrophic scar at early stage in burn children. Methods: A retrospective cohort before-after control study in the same patients was conducted. From February 2019 to December 2020, a total of 67 burn children who met the inclusion criteria (32 males and 35 females, aged 1 to 12 years) with red hyperplastic scar at early stage, were treated in Hunan Provincial People's Hospital (1st Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University). All the children were treated with composite laser technique (PDL and UFCL) combined with triamcinolone acetonide (hereinafter referred to as combined treatment). After 2 months, they received the second combined treatment. Before the first combined treatment and 6 months after the last combined treatment, the scar of children was evaluated with the patient and observer scar assessment scale (POSAS) by physicians and family members. Six months after the last combined treatment, the satisfaction of the patients' family members with the efficacy was recorded and the overall satisfaction rate was calculated. Adverse reactions were recorded throughout the treatment process. Data were statistically analyzed with paired sample t test. Results: Six months after the last combined treatment, the POSAS scores of children on the thickness, blood vessels distribution, color, surface roughness, texture, scope, and overall evaluation of scar evaluated by the physicians, and the POSAS scores of children on the color, degree of pain, degree of itching, hardness, thickness, shape and size, and overall evaluation of scar evaluated by the family members were significantly lower than those before the first combined treatment (with t values of 17.32, 16.73, 15.00, 14.91, 19.62, 28.74, 29.83, 17.43, 20.52, 29.01, 28.82, 24.91, 20.30, and 42.13, respectively, P<0.01). Six months after the last combined treatment, 62 (93%), 3 (4%), and 2 (3%) children's family members were very satisfied, satisfied, and relatively satisfied with the treatment effect, respectively, and the overall satisfaction rate was 97% (65/67). Six months after the last combined treatment, no scar thickening or infection occurred in all the wounds of children. Conclusions: Composite laser technique combined with multipoint microinjection of triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of red hypertrophic scar at early stage in burn children can improve the appearance and texture of scar, reduce scar pain and pruritus, with high satisfaction of children's family members to the treatment effect and less adverse reactions.

[Clinical characteristics and diagnosis and treatment strategies of patients with severe traumatic aortic injury]

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and diagnosis and treatment strategies of patients with severe traumatic aortic injury (TAI). Methods: A total of 25 patients with TAI, who hospitalized in our hospital between August 2005 to March 2021 and underwent thoracic aortic endovascular repair (TEVAR), were included in this retrospective study. According to the time from admission to TEVAR, the patients were divided into emergency TEVAR group (14 cases, TEVAR within 24 h of admission) and elective TEVAR group (11 cases, patients underwent surgery or fracture reduction and fixation first for serious injuries and then underwent TEVAR more than 24 h after admission). The general clinical data of patients, injury severity score (ISS), time from admission to intervention, total hospital stay, the proportion of closed chest drainage and the proportion of abdominal organ repair were obtained and compared. Clinical follow-up and 1-year postoperative aortic computed tomography angiography (CTA) were performed on the patients. Death, the occurrence of aortic adverse events and injury recovery were followed up and recorded. Results: The mean age of these 25 TAI patients was (41.4±14.4) years, 20 patients were males (80.0%). 21 patients (84.0%) had persistent chest and back pain, 17 (68.0%) had pleural effusion and 5 (20.0%) had mediastinal hematoma. The injury severity score (ISS) was significantly higher in the elective TEVAR group than in the emergency TEVAR group (24.9±14.4 vs. 35.5±9.3, P=0.044). The time from admission to intervention ((1.0±0.0) d vs. (3.4±0.9) d, P<0.001], the time from admission to TEVAR ((1.0±0.0) d vs. (11.5±13.8) d, P=0.030) and total hospital stay ((6.1±2.3) d vs. (26.8±7.7) d, P<0.001) were significantly longer in elective TEVAR group than in emergency TEVAR group. The proportion of thoracic closed drainage was significantly lower in the elective TEVAR group than in the emergency TEVAR group (9 (64.3%) vs. 2 (18.2%), P=0.042). The proportion of abdominal organ repair was significantly higher than in the emergency TEVAR group (0 vs. 4 (36.4%), P=0.026). All of 25 patients were discharged alive and followed up for (84.0±30.5) months. All patients survived and completed 1-year postoperation CTA. There were no aortic adverse events occurred, and no complications after surgery, and the fractures and organ injuries healed well. Conclusions: The clinical characteristics of severe TAI are acute multi-injuries combined with persistent chest and/or back pain, pleural effusion, and mediastinal hematoma. Timely diagnosis and treatment are important factors for the outcome. The treatment strategy for multi-injuries should give priority to dealing with life-threatening injuries. TEVAR is the primary treatment strategy for severe TAI and is related to satisfactory outcomes.

[Research progress on the characteristics of artemisia pollen allergens and related pollinosis]

In recent years, the morbidity of pollinosis has been increasing year by year. Anemophilous flower pollen is the most important allergen causing pollinosis, among which artemisia pollen is one of the most common airborne allergens. In this paper, based on the immune biology characteristics of major sensitization protein components of artemisia pollen, and from the perspective of immunology, the main pathogenic mechanism of action and clinical characteristics of artemisia pollen are elaborated to provide the reference basis for the development of accurate and effective artemisia pollen disease prevention and control strategy, hoping to provide patients with scientific and effective prevention and control suggestions.

Association between complete right bundle branch block and atrial fibrillation development

Background

Complete right bundle branch block (CRBBB) is an important predictor of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation. However, the association between CRBBB and AF development remains unclear.

Methods

We performed a retrospective study of 2639 patients (male, n = 1549; female, n = 1090; mean age, 58 ± 13 years). CRBBB was defined as a late R (R′) wave in lead V₁ or V₂ with a slurred S wave in lead I and/or lead V₆ with a prolonged QRS duration (≥120 ms).

Results

Among the 2639 patients, CRBBB was detected in 40 patients (1.5%), and the prevalence of AF was 7.4% (196/2639). The proportion of patients with AF and CRBBB was higher than the proportion of patients with AF without CRBBB (22.5% vs. 7.2%; p = 0.001). In the forward multivariate logistic analysis, CRBBB (odds ratio [OR], 3.329; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.350–8.211; p = 0.009), complete left bundle branch block (OR, 2.209; 95% CI, 1.238–3.940; p = 0.007), age (OR, 1.020; 95% CI, 1.005–1.035; p = 0.009), valvular heart disease (OR, 2.332; 95% CI, 1.531–3.552; p < 0.001), left atrial diameter (OR, 1.133; 95% CI, 1.104–1.163; p < 0.001), left ventricular ejection fraction (OR, 1.023; 95% CI, 1.006–1.041; p = 0.007), and class I or III anti‐arrhythmic drug use (OR, 10.534; 95% CI, 7.090–15.651; p < 0.001) were associated with AF.

Conclusion

Complete right bundle branch block was significantly associated with AF development in hospitalized patients with cardiovascular diseases.

[Perioperative management and complication control of Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy in children with syndromic craniosynostosis]

Objective: To summarize the preliminary efficacy, perioperative management and complications of Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy and midface distraction in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis by retrospective analysis, and to provide clinical experience for reference. Methods: From October 2017 to January 2020, 20 patients with syndromic craniosynostosis underwent Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy and distraction in The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Peking University International Hospital, including 11 males and 9 females, were involved. The median age was 7 years (1.5 to 15 years). Preoperative risk prevention plan was put forward by multidisciplinary evaluation, and preoperative intervention was carried out. The diagnostic data of SNA, airway volume, polysomnography (PSG), ophthalmology and occlusal relationship were obtained through specialized examination, and osteotomy and distraction surgical plan was formulated through virtual surgical planning. CT was taken 1 week and 3, 6, 12 months after operation, PSG and eye protrudence examination were conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effect, syndrome type, multiple disciplinary treatment (MDT) intervention, occurrence and outcome of complications were summarized. Results: There were 15 cases of Crouzon syndrome and 5 cases of Pfeiffer syndrome. Sleep apnea was the first complaint in 18 cases and exophthalmia in 2 cases. Preoperative interventional therapy included 4 cases of adenoid surgery, 2 cases of continuous positive airway pressure and 2 cases of maxillary expansion. The most common surgical complications were accidental fracture (14/20 cases, 70%), cerebrospinal fluid fistula (2 cases), internal carotid cavernous sinus fistula (1 case), postoperative hyponatraemia (5 cases), crying syndrome (2 cases), wound infection (2 cases), trichiasis of lower eyelid (4 cases), and nasal malformation (1 case). Three cases underwent unplanned secondary surgery. SNA, airway volume and mean percutaneous arterial oxygen saturation (SpO₂) six months after operation were significantly higher than those before operation (F=10.09, P=0.001; F=5.13, P<0.001; F=10.78, P=0.001), and the protrusion and apnea hypopnea index were significantly lower than those before surgery (F=6.73, P=0.010; F=18.47, P<0.001). There were no significant differences in SNA, airway volume, mean SpO₂, ophthalmology between 6 months after surgery and 1 year after surgery (P>0.05). Conclusions: Perioperative safety assessment and early intervention of MDT is an effective diagnosis and treatment model of Le Fort Ⅲ osteotomy and distraction for syndromic craniosynosis. The operative complications are mainly local, and systemic complications are controllable.

[Geographical Detection of Spatial Heterogeneity and Drivers of PM2.5 in the Yangtze River Economic Belt]

Based on ground monitoring data, we explored the spatiotemporal characteristics and drivers of PM_2.5 in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) in 2018 using spatial autocorrelation analysis and geodetector modeling methods. The results showed that:① the PM_2.5 concentration in the YREB posed the obvious characteristics of low values in summer and high values in winter, seasonal variation in spring and autumn, monthly U-shaped variation, and daily pulse variation. The low value area was mainly concentrated in the south bank of the upper reaches, whereas the high value area was located in the north of the middle-lower reaches of the YREB. ② PM_2.5 pollution in the YREB had a stable positive spatial correlation, and the local association pattern showed a significant HH and LL spatial convergence. ③ The spatial correlation of PM_2.5 in the YREB decreased with the increase in geographical distance, and its spatial autocorrelation threshold was approximately 870 km, within which the spatial agglomeration of PM_2.5 pollution was strong. ④ The influences of natural and anthropogenic factors on PM_2.5 had significant spatial differences. Altitude, relief, and population density were the high impact factors of PM_2.5 pollution in the YREB. The interaction of factors had a far greater explanatory power on PM_2.5 pollution than that of single factors. The dominant interaction factor was industrial structure ∩ altitude, which reflected the complexity of the drivers of air pollution in the YREB.

Two-step strategy, growth mechanism and optical properties of plasmonic Ag-modified ZnO nanomaterials

In this paper, plasma silver (Ag) modified zinc oxide (ZnO) (AZO) was used to form AZO nanomaterials (including AZO nanofilms (NFm), AZO nanowires (NWs) and AZO nanoflowers (NFw)) in a two-step-controlled manner to investigate the effect of compounding different contents of Ag on the linear optical aspects of ZnO materials. The growth mechanism of the AZO nanomaterials with different strategies is discussed. If Ag nanoparticles (NPs) grow on the ZnO NFm surface, they first grow with ZnO as the core and then self-core into islands, which are undoubtedly influenced by factors such as the growth mechanism of ZnO as well as Ag. If Ag is grown on the surface of the ZnO NWs and ZnO NFw, it is more likely to self-core owing to factors such as the roughness of the ZnO NWs and ZnO NFw surfaces. The AZO nanomaterials have excellent optical properties based on the surface plasmon resonance, local electromagnetic field and charge transfer mechanism between Ag and ZnO. With the increase in Ag content, the absorption edges of AZO NFm are red-shifted, and the absorption edges of AZO NWs and AZO NFw are first blue-shifted and then red-shifted. The results show that AZO nanomaterials prepared using different methods not only have different growth morphologies, but also have different optical properties with potential for the preparation of optical devices.

Effect of catheter ablation on clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation and significant functional mitral regurgitation

Background

In patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and functional mitral regurgitation (MR), catheter ablation reduces the severity of MR and improves cardiac remodeling. However, its effects on prognosis are uncertain.

Methods

This retrospective study included 151 consecutive patients with AF and functional MR, 82 (54.3%) of whom were treated by catheter ablation (Ablation group) and 69 (45.7%) with drug therapy without ablation (Non-ablation group). Forty-three pairs of these patients were propensity matched on the basis of age, CHA₂DS₂-VASc scores, and left ventricular ejection fraction. The primary outcome evaluated was severity of MR, cardiac remodeling and the combined incidence of subsequent heart failure-related hospitalization and strokes/transient ischemic attacks.

Results

Patients in the Ablation group showed a significant decrease in the severity of MR (p < 0.001), a significant decrease in the left atrial diameter (p = 0.010), and significant improvement in the left ventricular ejection fraction (p = 0.015). However, patients in the Non-ablation group showed only a significant decrease in the severity of MR (p = 0.004). The annual incidence of the studied events was 4.9% in the Ablation group and 16.7% in the Non-ablation group, the incidence being significantly lower in the ablation than Non-ablation group (p = 0.026) according to Kaplan–Meier curve analyses. According to multivariate Cox regression analysis, catheter ablation therapy (hazard ratio [HR] 0.27, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.09–0.84; p = 0.024) and heart failure at baseline (HR 3.84, 95% CI 1.07–13.74; p = 0.038) were independent predictors of the incidence of the studied events.

Conclusions

Among patients with AF and functional MR, catheter ablation was associated with a significantly lower combined risk of heart failure-related hospitalization and stroke than in a matched cohort of patients receiving drug therapy alone.

[Study on the incidence of adult herpes zoster in Yichang city and its association with early-life famine exposure]

Based on Yichang health big data platform, 850 608 patients from September 2018 to September 2019 were included in this study. According to the date of birth, the participants were divided into early childhood famine exposure group, fetal famine exposure group and non-famine exposure group. The incidence of adult herpes zoster (HZ) in Yichang city was analyzed, and the correlation between early life famine exposure and adult HZ was analyzed. In 2019, the crude incidence rate of adult HZ in Yichang was 6.83‰. The crude incidence rate of adult HZ in females (7.26‰) was higher than that in males (6.40‰). Compared with the non-famine exposure group, fetal famine exposure was associated with the incidence of adult HZ (OR=1.21; 95%CI: 1.01-1.45, P=0.041). After stratification by sex, fetal famine exposure was only found to be associated with the onset of adult HZ in females (OR=1.28, 95%CI:1.02-1.61, P=0.034).

Photocatalytic Decarboxylative [3 + 2] and [4 + 2] Annulation of Enynals and γ,σ-Unsaturated N-(Acyloxy)phthalimides by NaI/PPh3 Catalysis

A practical and eco-friendly strategy for the radical-mediated decarboxylative [3 + 2] and [4 + 2] annulation of enynals and γ,σ-unsaturated N-(acyloxy)phthalimides through the photoactivation of an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex has been developed. A wide range of primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHP) esters can be used as suitable substrates for the synthesis of fused ketones without any transition-metal catalysts or oxidants. This protocol features a broad substrate scope, excellent selectivity, and clean reaction conditions.

[Mechanism of Xiaoyao San in treatment of depression,breast hyperplasia,and functional dyspepsia based on network pharmacology]

This study aimed to explore the mechanism of Xiaoyao San(XYS) in the treatment of three diseases of liver depression and spleen deficiency, ie, depression, breast hyperplasia, and functional dyspepsia, and to provide a theoretical basis for the interpretation of the scientific connotation of &quot;treating different diseases with the same method&quot; of traditional Chinese medicines. Traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform(TCMSP) was used to screen the active components of XYS which underwent principal component analysis(PCA) with the available drugs for these three diseases to determine the corresponding biological activities. The targets of XYS on depression, breast hyperplasia, and functional dyspepsia were obtained from GeneCards, TTD, CTD, and DrugBank databases. Cytoscape was used to plot the &quot;individual herbal medicine-active components-potential targets&quot; network. The resulting key targets were subjected to Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes(KEGG) pathway analysis and gene ontology(GO) enrichment analysis. A total of 121 active components of XYS and 38 common targets in the treatment of depression, breast hyperplasia, and functional dyspepsia were collected. The key biological pathways were identified, including advanced glycation and products(AGEs)-receptor for advanced glycation and products(RAGE) signaling pathway in diabetic complications, HIF-1 signaling pathway, and cancer-related pathways. The key targets of XYS in the treatment of depression, breast hyperplasia, and functional dyspepsia included IL6, IL4, and TNF, and the key components were kaempferol, quercetin, aloe-emodin, etc. As revealed by the molecular docking, a strong affinity was observed between the key components and the key targets, which confirmed the results. The therapeutic efficacy of XYS in the treatment of diseases of liver depression and spleen deficiency was presumedly achieved by reducing the inflammatory reactions. The current findings are expected to provide novel research ideas and approaches to classify the scientific connotation of &quot;treating different diseases with the same method&quot; of Chinese medicines, as well as a theoretical basis for understanding the mechanism of XYS and exploring its clinical applications.

[Prevalence and related factors of CD4+T lymphocytes immune recovery among adult HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture]

Objective: To analyze the longitudinal characteristics of CD4⁺T lymphocytes (CD4) among the adult HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and the related factors. Methods: A retrospective cohort of adult HIV/AIDS starting ART in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture (Dehong) in 2007-2016 was followed up to December 31, 2018. Group-based trajectory models were utilized to identify CD4 subgroups based on immune recovery (whether and when CD4 reached the average level of >500 cells/μl). The demographics and information at ART baseline were described, and the related factors were analyzed with polytomous logistic regression. The SAS 9.4 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: A total of 7 605 adults with HIV/AIDS were included, of which the median (P₂₅,P₇₅) age at ART were 36 (30,43) years old, 61.0% were male, 42.5% were Han nationality, and 60.8% with the education of primary school or below. The follow-up duration M (P₂₅, P₇₅) was 6.1 (4.1,8.1) years. HIV/AIDS in Dehong showed four CD4 trajectory subgroups from low to high: below the average level, primary recovery to a normal level, full recovery to a moderate level, and normal steady level, accounting for 34.4%, 39.8%, 20.6%, and 5.2%, respectively. When compared with corresponding control groups, age <35 years at ART, female, education of middle school or above, sexual transmission, no opportunistic infection, CD4 ≥200 cells/μl, baseline regimen with tenofovir (TDF) and time from HIV diagnosis to ART <1 year were the related factors facilitating the higher CD4 subgroups. Conclusions: The various CD4 immune recoveries of HIV/AIDS were changing patterns after ART. Starting ART with a high CD4 level was beneficial to CD4 recovery to normal level during the follow-up period. Early initiation of ART and exceptional attention to CD4 immune recovery should be encouraged after the ART.

Hepatic metabolomics of the compatibility effect of Xiaoyaosan on CUMS-induced depression based on the TCM theory of "Treating Diseases via Regulating the Liver's Function"

This study aimed to demonstrate the scientific connotations and compatibility effects of Xiaoyaosan (XYS) based on the theory of "Treating Diseases via Regulating the Liver's Function" by hepatic metabolomics. XYS was divided into two efficacy groups, i.e. the Shugan (SG) and the Jianpi (JP) groups, according to the strategy of "Efficacy Compositions". The chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) depression model was constructed. A ¹H NMR-based hepatic metabolomics approach coupled with multivariate data (MVD) analysis was performed. Meanwhile, relative distance (RD) and Efficacy Index (EI) were calculated. XYS and its efficacy groups significantly reversed the abnormality of behavior and hepatic metabolomics of depression rats, but to different degrees. The results of ethology and metabolomics showed the same order, i.e. XYS > JP > SG. Two metabolites, i.e. tyrosine and malate, were regulated by all the treatment groups. Four metabolites were significantly regulated only by XYS group. Of note, the results showed the two efficacy groups of XYS exhibited synergistic anti-depression effects, and glutamate, malate and taurine could be the key hepatic metabolites for these synergistic effects. The current study not only complements and consummates the mechanisms of depression and the anti-depression effects of XYS from the perspective of hepatic metabolomics, but also lays a solid foundation for comprehensively and deeply understanding the compatibility effects of XYS against depression, especially from the points of view of compatibility in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory and synergism in modern medicine theory.

Perfluorocarbon Protects against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Apoptosis of Endothelial Cells in Pulmonary Microvessels

This study was aimed to explore the effect and mechanisms of action of perfluorocarbon on LPS-induced apoptosis of pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVEC) isolated from Sprague-Dawley rats. Apoptosis rates were assessed by flow cytometry. Ultrastructural characteristics of PMVEC were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy. The protein expression of cleaved caspase-3 was measured using Western blotting. LPS significantly increased the level of apoptosis, induced the appearance of ultrastructural changes typical of apoptosis, up-regulated the expression of active caspase-3 protein. These effects of LPS were attenuated by co-administration of perfluorocarbon. These results suggest that perfluorocarbon can attenuate LPS-induced apoptosis of PMVEC by inhibiting TLR-4 signaling and caspase-3 activation.

The synergistic anti-depression effects of different efficacy groups of Xiaoyaosan as demonstrated by the integration of network pharmacology and serum metabolomics

Compatibility investigations are vital but also the most difficult aspect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescriptions. Previous researches have demonstrated that Xiaoyaosan (XYS) is an effective treatment for depression. However, the compatibility rules of XYS and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Herein, we combined network pharmacology and serum metabolomics to investigate the scientific connotations and the compatibility effects of XYS. First, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) and the GeneCards databases were applied to identify the chemical components and the putative targets of XYS, and its efficacy groups. We then analyzed the herb-component-target pathways and constructed PPI networks. Potential pathways were determined by gene ontology (GO) and pathway enrichment analyses. Additionally, a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model was applied on rats. A proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (¹H NMR) based serum metabolomics was then used to identify potential metabolites and the corresponding pathways that were involved in depression and the potential anti-depression effects of XYS and its efficacy groups. A total of 121 components of XYS and 111 targets were associated with depression. Additionally, we screened 105 targets of 24 components in Shugan (SG) group and 106 targets of 95 components in Jianpi (JP) group. 13 targets were common to all three groups. Protein-protein interaction network analysis showed that Caspase-3 and Nitric oxide synthase-3 were nodes that overlapped with proteins known to be associated with depression. Pathway enrichment analysis further indicated that the putative targets of XYS and its efficacy groups mostly participated in pathways associated with cancer. Also, XYS and its efficacy groups significantly reversed abnormalities of serum metabolites and metabolic pathways, but to different degrees. Overall, different efficacy groups of XYS exhibit synergistic anti-depression effects and contribute to the whole prescription against depression. This study shows that the combination of network pharmacology and metabolomics is an effective approach to demonstrate scientific connotations and compatibility of TCMs from a holistic perspective.

[Meta-analysis of the effects of triamcinolone acetonide alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil for treating keloids]

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) for treating keloids using meta-analysis. Methods: Databases including PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were retrieved with the search terms of " triamcinolone acetonide, 5-fluorouracil, glucocorticoid, fluorouracil, keloid, scar, TAC, 5-FU, hypertrophic scar " and databases including Chinese Journal Full-Text Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, and Wanfang Data were retrieved with the search terms of ",, 5-,," in Chinese to obtain the publicly published randomized controlled trials about the effects of TA alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil for treating keloids from the establishment of each database to august 2019. The outcome indexes included effective proportion of treatment, incidence proportion of adverse reactions, and recurrence proportion of keloids. RevMan 5.3 and Stata 14.0 statistical software were used to conduct a meta-analysis of eligible studies. Results: A total of 1 326 patients with keloids were included in 14 studies, including 668 patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group whose keloids were injected with TA and 5-fluorouracil and 658 patients in TA alone group whose keloids were injected with TA alone. A total of 7 articles achieved 1 to 3 points in modified Jadad score, while 7 articles achieved 4 to 7 points in modified Jadad score. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a higher effective proportion of treatment than that of TA alone group (relative risk=1.28, 95% confidence interval=1.16-1.41, P<0.01). Subgroup analysis showed that the quality of the included literature and ethnic factors might be the source of heterogeneity in effective proportion of treatment. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a lower incidence proportion of adverse reactions than that of TA alone group (relative risk=0.44, 95% confidence interval=0.25-0.75, P<0.01). Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a lower recurrence proportion of keloids than that of TA alone group (relative risk=0.25, 95% confidence interval=0.14-0.44, P<0.01). There was no publication bias in incidence proportion of adverse reactions (P>0.05), while the effective proportion of treatment and recurrence proportion of keloids had publication bias (P<0.05). Conclusions: TA combined with 5-fluorouracil is more effective than TA alone for treating keloids, with less incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence.

[Clinicopathological features of Caroli disease/Caroli syndrome: an analysis of 21 cases]

Objective: To summarize and compare clinicopathological features of Caroli disease and Caroli syndrome. Methods: A total of 21 patients diagnosed with Caroli disease or Caroli syndrome in Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, from January 2015 to December 2018 were included. Through the clinical manifestations and comparative analysis of the differences between different clinical types, the liver pathological features of these patients were described. Results: Of all patients included, 8 were male and 13 were female, and the medium age was 13.5 year old. The initial symptom was fever in 6 cases (28.6%), gastrointestinal bleeding in 6 cases (28.6%) and hepatosplenomegaly in 9 cases (42.8%). Caroli disease accounted for 6 cases (28.6%) and Caroli syndrome 15 cases (71.4%). The total bilirubin [6.7 (4.7, 15.0) vs 16.0(10.9, 33.0)μmol/L] and direct bilirubin [1.3(0.9,6.4)vs 3.5(2.7, 16.2)μmol/L] were significantly lower in Caroli disease group in comparison to those in Caroli syndrome group(both P<0.05). The hemoglobin [117.0 (106.0, 126.2) vs 85.0 (74.0, 103.0) g/L] and platelet count [286.0 (149.8, 467.5)×10(9)/L vs 76.1(55.0,123.0)×10(9)/L] in Caroli disease group were significantly higher than those in Caroli syndrome group (both P<0.05). There were 10 patients (47.6%) who underwent liver transplantation. Child-Pugh-Turcotte Score (liver function reserve) were significantly higher than that in the non-liver transplantation group[8.0(8.0, 10.2)vs 5.0 (5.0, 6.0), P<0.05]. Conclusions: Early symptoms of Caroli disease/Caroli syndrome are atypical and prone to misdiagnosis and misdiagnosis. The diagnosis is usually based on pathology and may be supplemented by laboratory examination and imaging analysis.

[Research progress in combination applications of antidepressant drugs]

Depression is a common affective disorder. The application of antidepressants can significantly alleviate the symptoms of depression, which is the most important way to treat depression in clinical practice. Due to the complex etiology, wide variety, as well as diversity and severity of serious concomitant symptoms, rational addition of other drugs into antidepressants can significantly improve the cure rates of depression, reduce adverse reactions, and improve patient compliances. Therefore, the combined applications of differential drugs have been commonly used in clinic. In this paper, more than 600 literatures about depression from 2010 to 2019 were collected based on the key words of antidepressant, depression, combined medication, synergism and increase efficiency. Based on this, by summarizing and classifying the existing combinations of antidepressant drugs, this paper systematically expounds the current combined applications of antidepressant drugs in three categories, i.e. western medicines combined with western medicines, western medicines combined with traditional Chinese medicines, and traditional Chinese medicines combined with traditional Chinese medicines, in the expectation of providing the direction and basis for the selection of rational combinations of antidepressant drugs in clinic.

Ultrahigh-strength and ductile superlattice alloys with nanoscale disordered interfaces

Alloys that have high strengths at high temperatures are crucial for a variety of important industries including aerospace. Alloys with ordered superlattice structures are attractive for this purpose but generally suffer from poor ductility and rapid grain coarsening. We discovered that nanoscale disordered interfaces can effectively overcome these problems. Interfacial disordering is driven by multielement cosegregation that creates a distinctive nanolayer between adjacent micrometer-scale superlattice grains. This nanolayer acts as a sustainable ductilizing source, which prevents brittle intergranular fractures by enhancing dislocation mobilities. Our superlattice materials have ultrahigh strengths of 1.6 gigapascals with tensile ductilities of 25% at ambient temperature. Simultaneously, we achieved negligible grain coarsening with exceptional softening resistance at elevated temperatures. Designing similar nanolayers may open a pathway for further optimization of alloy properties.

Spatiotemporal dynamics and impacts of socioeconomic and natural conditions on PM2.5 in the Yangtze River Economic Belt

The determination of the spatiotemporal patterns and driving factors of PM_2.5 is of great interest to the atmospheric and climate science community, who aim to understand and better control the atmospheric linkage indicators. However, most previous studies have been conducted on pollution-sensitive cities, and there is a lack of large-scale and long-term systematic analyses. In this study, we investigated the spatiotemporal evolution of PM_2.5 and its influencing factors by using an exploratory spatiotemporal data analysis (ESTDA) technique and spatial econometric model based on remote sensing imagery inversion data of the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB), China, between 2000 and 2016. The results showed that 1) the annual value of PM_2.5 was in the range of 23.49-37.67 μg/m³ with an inverted U-shaped change trend, and the PM_2.5 distribution presented distinct spatial heterogeneity; 2) there was a strong local spatial dependence and dynamic PM_2.5 growth process, and the spatial agglomeration of PM_2.5 exhibited higher path-dependence and spatial locking characteristics; and 3) the endogenous interaction effect of PM_2.5 was significant, where each 1% increase in the neighbouring PM_2.5 levels caused the local PM_2.5 to increase by at least 0.4%. Natural and anthropogenic factors directly and indirectly influenced the PM_2.5 levels. Our results provide spatial decision references for coordinated trans-regional air pollution governance as well as support for further studies which can inform sustainable development strategies in the YREB.

Potential quality evaluation approach for the absolute growth years' wild and transplanted Astragali Radix based on anti-heart failure efficacy

The quality of Astragali Radix (AR) was closely related to the growth period. However, the current commodity grades of AR were only divided by diameter but not directly related to the growth period, which leads to the contradiction between the grade standard and the quality evaluation index. Therefore, solving this problem will be the key for the quality evaluation of AR. The present study established a potential quality evaluation approach for the absolute growth years' wild Astragali Radix (WAR) and transplanted Astragali Radix (TAR) based on the chemical components and anti-heart failure efficacy through adopting a bare-handed sections approach to rapidly identify the growth years of WAR. In this study, the absolute growth years of WAR were obtained by identifying the growth rings of 1-6 growth years root through the methods. The contents of flavonoids and saponins in 2-6 growth years' WAR were determined by HPLC-UV-ELSD. The contents of 12 chemical components and the anti-fatigue failure effects of WAR (4-year-old) and TAR were compared on rat models of heart failure induced by doxorubicin. Meanwhile, NMR-based untargeted metabolomics studies were performed to investigate the regulative effects of WAR and TAR. The result shows that the numbers of growth rings were consistent with the actual growth periods of AR. The HPLC-UV-ELSD determination indicated that the content of total flavonoids in WAR was significantly higher than that in TAR. Pharmacodynamics analysis revealed that the effects of WAR on cardiac function parameters (EF, FS and LVIDs), contents of serum CK and BNP were superior to those of TAR. 13 metabolites of heart were identified that had a higher rate of change in WAR group than TAR. Overall, a rapid identification method for the growth years of WAR was established, and the fact that WAR were significantly better than TAR in the heart failure rats was first proved in the paper. This study provided a scientific basis for establishing a novel commodity specification and grade of AR for clinical rational drug use.

Relationship between PI3K/mTOR/RhoA pathway-regulated cytoskeletal rearrangements and phagocytic capacity of macrophages

The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between PI3K/mTOR/RhoA signaling regulated cytoskeletal rearrangements and phagocytic capacity of macrophages. RAW264.7 macrophages were divided into four groups; blank control, negative control, PI3K-RNAi, and mTOR-RNAi. The cytoskeletal changes in the macrophages were observed. Furthermore, the phagocytic capacity of macrophages against Escherichia coli is reported as mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) and percent phagocytosis. Transfection yielded 82.1 and 81.5% gene-silencing efficiencies against PI3K and mTOR, respectively. The PI3K-RNAi group had lower mRNA and protein expression levels of PI3K, mTOR, and RhoA than the blank and negative control groups (Р<0.01). The mTOR-RNAi group had lower mRNA and protein levels of mTOR and RhoA than the blank and the negative control groups (Р<0.01). Macrophages in the PI3K-RNAi group exhibited stiff and inflexible morphology with short, disorganized filopodia and reduced number of stress fibers. Macrophages in the mTOR-RNAi group displayed pronounced cellular deformations with long, dense filopodia and an increased number of stress fibers. The PI3K-RNAi group exhibited lower MFI and percent phagocytosis than blank and negative control groups, whereas the mTOR-RNAi group displayed higher MFI and percent phagocytosis than the blank and negative controls (Р<0.01). Before and after transfection, the mRNA and protein levels of PI3K were both positively correlated with mTOR and RhoA (Р<0.05), but the mRNA and protein levels of mTOR were negatively correlated with those of RhoA (Р<0.05). Changes in the phagocytic capacity of macrophages were associated with cytoskeletal rearrangements and were regulated by the PI3K/mTOR/RhoA signaling pathway.

[Efficacy of minimally invasive pulmonary surfactant administration in preterm infants with neonatal respiratory distress syndrome: a multicenter clinical trial]

Objective: To explore the feasibility and safety of minimally invasive surfactant administration (MISA) in preterm neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS). Methods: In this multicenter prospective randomized controlled trial, 92 preterm infants with gestation age ≤30 weeks and diagnosed with NRDS were enrolled in 8 level Ⅲ neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region from 1(st) July 2017 to 31(st) December 2018. They were randomly assigned to minimally invasive surfactant administration (MISA) group or endotracheal intubation surfactant administration (EISA) group according to random number generated by computer. Infants in both groups received calf pulmonary surfactant preparation at a dose of 70-100 mg/kg. The data of demography, perinatal situation, medication administration, complications, clinical outcomes in the two groups were compared with Chi-square test, Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney U test or Fisher's exact test. Results: Among the 92 preterm infants, 53 were males, 39 were females; 47 were in the MISA group (25 males), and 45 were in the EISA group (28 males). The gestational age and birth weight were (29.5±1.2) weeks and (1 271±242) g in all patients, (29.5±1.4) weeks and (1 285±256) g in the MISA group, and (29.6±0.9) weeks and (1 255±227) g in the EISA group. The duration of surfactant infusion and the length of whole procedure in the MISA group were significantly longer than that in the EISA group (60 (18, 270) s vs. 50 (30, 60) s, Z=3.009, P=0.003; 90 (60, 300) s vs. 60 (44, 270) s, Z=3.365, P=0.001). For the outcomes, the incidence of hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) were lower in the MISA group than in the EISA group (36% (17/47) vs. 67% (30/45), χ(2)=8.556, P=0.003; 26% (12/47) vs. 47% (21/45), χ(2)=4.464, P=0.035). Conclusions: Minimally invasive surfactant administration is applicable in preterm infants ≤30 weeks gestational age with NRDS. Although the length of whole procedure is longer than route endotracheal administration, the benefit of decreasing the incidences of hsPDA and BPD outweighs this demerit.

[The effect of fine particles on the phagocytosis of alveolar macrophages potentially by Arp2/3 complex in a mouse model of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease]

Objective: To investigate the mechanism of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on the phagocytosis of alveolar macrophages (AM) in mice with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) through actin-related protein (Arp) 2/3 complex. Methods: Forty mice were divided into healthy control(A) group, healthy PM2.5 (B) group, COPD(C) group, and COPD PM2.5(D) group according to the random number table method. A mouse model of COPD was established by cigarette smoke exposure method. PM2.5 (662 μg/m(3)) model was established by continuously inhalation for 90 days in healthy PM2.5 group and COPD PM2.5 group. Flow cytometry was used to detect the ability of AM to phagocytose fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled E.coli (FITC-E.coli), expressed as mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) and percentage of phagocytic positive cells (phagocytosis percentage); Western blotting was used to detect AM Arp2 and F-actin content, and laser confocal microscopy for AM Arp2 and F-actin and phagocytic FITC-E.coli average optical density and colocalization of Arp2 and F-actin, while scanning electron microscopy was used to observes the morphology of AM after phagocytizing FITC-E.coli. Results: AM phagocytosis: MFI and phagocytosis percentage in the COPD group [4 656±251, (31.9±1.7)%] were lower than the healthy control group [8 657±247, (65.7±1.9)%] (both P<0.01); and healthy PM2.5 group and COPD PM2.5 group [7 653±228, (47.9±1.6)% and 3 660±237, (19.2±1.2)%] were lower than the respective control groups (all P<0.01), and the decrease in the COPD group was more pronounced. AM Arp2, F-actin content: the COPD group (0.51±0.02, 0.46±0.03) were lower than the healthy control group (0.81±0.04, 0.71±0.04, both P<0.01); the healthy PM2.5 group and the COPD PM2.5 group [(0.64±0.03, 0.56±0.04) and (0.29±0.02, 0.26±0.02)] were lower than the respective control groups (all P<0.01), and the decrease in COPD group was more significant. Arp2, F-actin, and phagocytic FITC-E.coli mean optical density values: the COPD group (33.0±2.3, 62.0±0.7, 41.0±0.4) were lower than the healthy control group (141.0±4.2, 145.0±2.9, 189.0±2.6, both P<0.01); the healthy PM2.5 group and the COPD PM2.5 group (127.0±2.8, 124.0±0.7, 154.0±0.9, and 24.0±2.4, 37.0±0.4, 29.0±0.8) were lower than the respective control groups (all P<0.01), and the decrease in the COPD group was more significant. Colocalization of AM Arp2 and F-actin: Montessori colocalization coefficient (MOC) (0.38±0.03) in the COPD group was lower than the healthy control group (0.88±0.03, P<0.01); healthy PM2.5 group and COPD PM2.5 group [(0.58±0.03) and (0.14±0.02)] were lower than the respective control groups (both P<0.01), and the decrease in COPD group was more significant. Morphology of AM phagocytosis of FITC-E.coli: AM in the healthy control group was obviously deformed, and the surface of the cell membrane was slightly wrinkled and high, and the free edge of the micro-pleated fold had a long and dense filamentous pseudopodia extension. The changes of morphology of AM in the COPD group was not obvious, the micro-wrinkles on the surface of the cell membrane were rare, and the filopodia poorly extended or even absent. The AM form of the healthy PM2.5 group changed slightly, mostly irregular circular or elliptical. The micro-wrinkles on the surface of the cell membrane were less and flat, and the filopodia protrudes short and less; the AM form of the COPD PM2.5 group was stiff, and the micro-wrinkles on the surface of the cell membrane were few and flat, no obvious filopodia or protrusions. Correlation analysis: After basal state and PM2.5 intervention, AM Arp2, F-actin content and MOC values of Arp2 and F-actin were positively correlated with MFI. Conclusions: The phagocytic function of AM in COPD mice was low, which was related to the abnormal rearrangement of cytoskeleton involved in Arp2/3 complex and F-actin. It was speculated that PM2.5 might inhibit Arp2/3 complex and F-actin. The cytoskeletal rearrangement of proteins was involved in the aggravation of AM phagocytosis in mice with COPD.

[Comparison of clinical efficacy between first-generation and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors based regimen in the treatment of patients with BCR-ABL positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia]

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy and prognostic factors of first-generation and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) based regimen in the treatment of patients with BCR-ABL positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) . Methods: Retrospectively analyze the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of 89 patients with BCR-ABL positive ALL from April 2012 to June 2018 in our hospital, the clinical efficacy of first-generation and second-generation TKI was compared. Results: 60 patients were classified into the first-generation TKI (imatinib) group, and 29 patients were in the second-generation TKI (dasatinib) group. There were no significant differences in gender, age, WBC, hemoglobin concentration, PLT, chromosomal karyotype, the types of fusion genes, allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and TKI initiation time between the two groups. The first-generation and second-generation TKI groups, for which the complete remission (CR) rate at the fourth week of induction therapy was 83.3% and 89.7% (P=0.637) , respectively, and the complete molecular remission (CMR) was 48.3%and 58.6% (P=0.363) , respectively, the difference was not statistically significant. The 2-year overall survival (OS) rate of first-generation and second-generation TKI group was 34.9% and 64.0% (χ(2)=4.743, P=0.029) , the 2-year relapse free survival (RFS) rate was 17.2% and 55.0% (χ(2)=8.801, P=0.003) , respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that complete molecular remission (HR=0.281, 95%CI 0.151-0.523, P<0.001) was independent favorable prognostic factor for overall survival (OS) , complete molecular remission (HR=0.209, 95%CI 0.112-0.390, P<0.001) and second-generation TKI (HR=0.318, 95%CI 0.158-0.641, P=0.001) were independent favorable prognostic factors for RFS. Conclusion: For TKI-based regimen of BCR-ABL positive ALL, second-generation TKI is superior to first-generation TKI in OS and RFS time.

[Accuracy analysis of robotic assistant needle placement for trigeminal gasserian ganglion]

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the accuracy and feasibility of a custom robot system guided by optical navigation for needle puncture on trigeminal gasserian ganglion.

METHODS

A synthetic human skull model was used, with plasticine placed around the skull base to imitate the human soft tissue. Cone beam CT (CBCT) scanning was performed before the operation. With image data transferred to the graphical user interface of the computer workstation, the oval foramen was selected as the target and the "skin entry point" was also determined by the surgeon on the surgical planning software. Thus the needle trajectory was eventually planned. The skull model was fixed firmly to the trial table with a head clamp and relative size of the trial table was the same as a standard operating table. Following point-based registration, the data were sent to the robot control unit. Only after the surgeon's confirmation, the needle was automatically inserted into the intended target by the robot guided by optical navigation. When the procedure was completed, the instantaneous data of the needle tip orientation acquired by navigation system was sent back to the computer workstation for accuracy verification by calculating the geometric distance between the needle tip and the planning target after matrix transformation. Subsequently, after the needle had been released, CBCT scanning was also acquired to make image fusion of the preoperative skull and the postoperative skull. The data of the needle tip orientation was acquired on the postoperative image and the accuracy was re-verified by calculating the geometric distance between the needle tip and the planning target after matrix transformation. IBM SPSS Statistics 20 was used for statistical analysis and the paired t-test was used to compare the differences in the accuracy measured by the intraoperative navigation and postoperative image fusion.

RESULTS

All 20 interventions were successfully located in oval foramen at the first needle insertion. The mean deviation of the needle tip was (0.56±0.07) mm (measured by the navigation system) and (1.49±0.14) mm (measured by the image fusion), respectively (P<0.001).

CONCLUSION

The experimental results show the robot system is efficient and reliable. The navigation accuracy is one of the most significant factors in robotic procedures.

[LncRNA HULC promots HCC growth by downregulating miR-29]

Objective: To explore the effects of lncRNA HULC on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) growth by down-regulating miR-29. Methods: The expression levels of HULC and miR-29 in HCC tissues and cells were detected by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), and the correlation analysis was performed. After HCC cells were transfected with HULC overexpressed plasmid or siRNA, the expressions of miR-29 and its target gene SETDB1 were determinate by RT-qPCR. According to the bioinformatic prediction of the miR-29 binding site in the HULC sequence, the report gene plasmids were constructed. The HCC cells were co-transfected with miR-29 mimics or miR-29 inhibitor, and the HULC targeted regulation of miR-29 was verified by dual luciferase reporter assay. The effect of miR-29 on the HULC-mediated proliferation in HCC cells was detected by cell count kit 8 (CCK-8) experiment. Expression of tumor proliferation antigen Ki-67 was detected by RT-qPCR.The Hep3B cells were inoculated in mice and miR-29 mimics and miR-29 negative control (NC) further injected into the lesions. The tumor volume was observed, and the expressions of tumor proliferation antigen ki-67 in tumor tissues were detected by immunohistochemical staining. Results: The expression of HULC was significantly up-regulated while the expression of miR-29 was significantly down-regulated in HCC tissues and cells (P<0.01). The level of HULC was negatively correlated with miR-29 in tumor tissues (r=-0.754, P<0.01) and HCC cells (r=-0.865, P<0.05). The in vitro experiments showed that, compared with the blank control group, the expression of miR-29 in HULC overexpressed Huh7 cells was significantly reduced, while the mRNA level of miR-29 target gene SETDB1 was increased (P<0.01). The expression of miR-29 was significantly increased in HULC deleted Hep3B cells, while the mRNA expression of SETDB1 was decreased (P<0.01). Double luciferase reporter gene assay showed that miR-29 mimics significantly inhibited the luciferase activity of Hep3B cells transfected with HULC wide type (psi-HULC-WT) plasmid but had no effect on Hep3B cells transfected with mutant plasmid (psi-HULC-Mut). However, the miR-29 inhibitor antagonized the inhibitory effect of miR-29 mimics on luciferase activity of psi-HULC-WT (P<0.01). Cell proliferation experiments showed that, compared with the control group, the proliferation ability of miR-29 mimics overexpressed Huh7 cells was significantly reduced.After 24, 48 and 72 hours of treatment, the proliferation rates of Huh7 cells in the HULC overexpressed group were (43.87±3.82)%, (83.45±7.46)% and (123.34±8.67)%, respectively, significantly higher than (13.45±1.77)%, (23.54±1.37)% and (38.21±2.09)% of control group (P<0.05). After treatment for 48 and 72 hours, the proliferation rates of miR-29 mimics transfected Huh7 cells were (57.10±1.94)% and (73.76±3.46)%, respectively, significantly lower than (83.45±7.46)% and (123.34±8.67)% of control group (P<0.05). After treatment for 48 and 72 hours, the proliferation rates of Huh7 cells transfected with miR-29 mimics and miR-29 inhibitor group were (76.45±3.24)% and (89.37±4.37)%, respectively, significant higher than (57.10%±1.94)% and (73.76±3.46)% of the control group (P<0.05). After 48 h transfection, the expression of Ki-67 in Huh7 transfected with miR-29 mimics was significantly inhibited compared with the control group (P<0.01). However, the expression of Ki-67 mRNA was increased in Huh7 cells transfected with miR-29 inhibitor (P<0.01). The results of in vivo experiments showed that the tumor volumes of the control group, miR-29 mimics group and miR-29 mimics + miR-29 inhibitors group were (504.0±19.6) mm(3), (310.0±24.3) mm(3) and (483.7±21.2) mm(3), respectively. Injection of miR-29 mimics reduced while miR-29 inhibitor promoted tumorigenesis ability of Huh7 in nude mice (P<0.01). The immunohistochemical staining showed that the average optical density values of Ki-67 protein in tumor tissues of the control group, miR-29 mimics group and miR-29 analogue+ miR-29 inhibitor group were 0.65±0.08, 0.36±0.07 and 0.56±0.06, respectively. The expression level of Ki-67 protein in miR-29 mimics group was significantly reduced (P<0.01) while increased in the miR-29 mimics+ miR-29 inhibitor group (P<0.01). Conclusion: LncRNA HULC promotes HCC growth by down-regulating miR-29.

1H NMR-based metabolomics revealed the protective effects of Guilingji on the testicular dysfunction of aging rats

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE

Guilingji (GLJ), a famous and classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, has been used to extend the lifespan and improve the life qualities of the elderly for hundreds of years in China.

AIM OF THE STUDY

We aimed to explore the protective effects of GLJ on the testicular dysfunction of aging rats, as well as the regulating effects of GLJ on the metabolic disturbance and metabolite changes in natural aging rats.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Forty 23-month-old rats were divided randomly into four groups, including the old control group and three groups of GLJ treatment at 37.5, 75, and 150 mg/kg doses, respectively. Additionally, 10 four-month rats were included as the youth control group. Testicular dysfunction was first evaluated by measuring the changes in the wet weights of the testicles, concentration of serum testosterone (T), and morphologic changes of the testis. Subsequently, an ¹H NMR-based metabolomics approach coupled with multivariate analysis, including partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) was applied to monitor the metabolite changes.

RESULTS

Compared with the old control group, the wet weights of the testicles and T concentration were significantly increased, while the morphologic abnormality of testicular tissues was improved by a 4-week treatment course with GLJ. Furthermore, compared with the old control group, the urinary levels of alanine, pantothenate, phenylalanine, β-hydroxybutyrate and pyruvate were significantly decreased after a 4-week treatment course with GLJ. Additionally, we found that amino acid metabolism and pyruvate metabolism were significantly involved in the regulatory effect of GLJ.

CONCLUSIONS

The current findings provided, for the first time, sound evidence of the protective effects of GLJ on testicular dysfunction from both biochemical and metabolomics perspectives. The mechanisms of GLJ could be related to regulating amino acid metabolism and pyruvate metabolism. The current study lays an important foundation for further research and for the broad clinical application of GLJ.

USF1 gene polymorphisms may associate with the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy based on paclitaxel and prognosis in the treatment of ovarian cancer

This study was supposed to investigate the correlation between the functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs2516839 and rs3737787) in USF1 gene and the efficacy and safety of paclitaxel-based chemotherapy and prognosis in the treatment of ovarian cancer (OC). In total 100 OC patients were selected and divided into the sensitive group and the resistantgroup according to the tumor response to paclitaxel-based chemotherapy after surgery, and the incidence of observed and recorded toxic reaction. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was applied to test the polymorphisms of rs2516839 and rs3737787 in USF1 gene after extraction of DNA. The correlation between USF1 gene polymorphisms and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy resistance was analyzed using Logistic regression analysis. Stratified analysis was used to test the incidence of toxic reaction in OC patients. Cox proportional hazard model was adapted to make a multiple-factor survival analysis. Significant differences exhibited in the genotype and the allele frequencies of rs2516839 between the sensitive and resistant groups, which showed no obvious difference in the genotype and allele frequencies of rs3737787. OC patients carrying the GA+AA genotype had higher incidence of serious toxic reaction than those carrying the GG genotype. Physical status score, tumor type, maximum tumor diameter and rs2516839 were the independent risk factors for the prognosis of OC patients. Taken together, our results suggest that the rs2516839 polymorphism in USF1 gene may associate with the efficacy and safety of paclitaxel-based chemotherapy and prognosis in the treatment of OC.

Effects of different starch sources on glucose and fat metabolism in broiler chickens

1. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of different starch sources (corn, wheat, and rice) on the blood glucose level, glycogen content of liver and muscle, expression of GSK-3β and FAS mRNA, abdominal fat weight and abdominal fat deposition in broiler chickens. 2. A total of 360, one-day-old AA (Arbor Acres) broiler chickens were randomly assigned to three treatment groups, each with six replicates, consisting of 20 chickens per replicate, and fed either a corn-, wheat- or rice-based diet for 21 days. The chickens were then subdivided into groups A and B, and the chickens in these two subgroups were processed or sampled for 28 days, respectively. 3. The results indicated that post-prandial time significantly affected the glucose concentration, glycogen content in the liver and breast muscle and expression of GSK-3β and FAS mRNAs (P < 0.05). The expression of the GSK-3β gene in the chicken liver of the corn-based diet group was higher (P < 0.05) than that in the wheat-based diet group, and the expression of the FAS gene in the corn-based diet group was lower (P < 0.05) than that in the wheat-based and rice-based diet groups. Abdominal fat weight and deposition in the corn-based diet group were lower than those of the wheat-based and rice-based diet groups, but these differences were not significant (P > 0.05). 4. The results suggested that the efficiency of glucose absorption in animals might have an effect on the fat deposition efficiency in the liver and that diets with different starch sources might affect fat deposition in chickens.

Doping dependence of the phase diagram in one-dimensional extended Hubbard model: a functional renormalization group study

Using functional renormalization group method, we studied the phase diagram of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at different dopings. At half filling, variety of states strongly compete with each other. These states include spin-density wave, charge-density wave, s-wave and p -wave superconductivity, phase separation, and an exotic bond-order wave. By doping, system favours superconductivity more than density waves. At 1/8 doping, a new area of extended s-wave superconductivity emerges between charge density wave and bond-order wave regions. If the system is doped to 1/4-doping, a new area of p -wave superconductivity emerges between charge-density wave and spin-density wave regions.

[Addressing the cancer invasion in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis]

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) may progress to end-stage liver disease, and needs medical intervention. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) may occur in patients with NASH prior to occurrence of cirrhosis. There is paucity of knowledge in understanding how NASH progresses to HCC. The present overview intends to provide updates in clinical and basic research of NASH-HCC, challenges and strategies in understanding its pathogenesis and solutions to increased incidence.

[Review of factors affecting health-related behaviors]

Health related behaviors are closely related to health outcomes. This paper reviews the studies on factors for health related behaviors worldwide published in recent 15 years, and systematically summarizes the current research status of the factors for health related behaviors. The factors influencing health related behaviors are individual social demographic factors, social cognitive factors of individuals, and social environmental factors. The individual social demographic factors mainly include gender, age, marital status, economic level and educational level. The social cognitive factors of individuals mainly include self-efficacy, health belief, social support and peer influence. The social environmental factors mainly include mass media, accessibility of facilities and level of urbanization, etc.

[Seasonal distribution of patient hospitalization due to asthma exacerbation in 7 geographic areas in China]

Objective: To understand the seasonal distribution of patient hospitalization due to asthma exacerbation in 7 geographic areas in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout 7 geographic areas in the mainland of China (northeast, north, central, east, south, northwest and southwest). The numbers of asthmatic patients and total inpatients of the respiratory department of each hospital were recorded. The monthly ratio of asthmatic patients to the total inpatients in every area was calculated and compared. Results: During the study period, 6 480 patients were admitted for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% of all the 206 135 patients admitted to the respiratory departments in the 29 hospitals. The ratio of asthmatic patients to total inpatients in the northeast area (5.61%) was highest, and the ratio in east area was lowest (1.97%). Statistical analysis showed that the difference among different areas was significant (P<0.000 1). In most areas, both the number and proportion of hospitalized asthmatic patients peaked in spring (February-April) and autumn (September-October). In the northeast area, east area and south area, the peaks in spring were more obvious, while in the north area and southwest area, the peaks in autumn were more obvious. In the northwest area the peaks occurred in winter (December-January) and summer (June-August), respectively. The differences in hospitalization due to asthma among different months were significant in the northeast, north, and southwest areas (P<0.005). Conclusion: The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation fluctuated with season in different areas in China. In most areas, more asthmatic patients were admitted to hospitals in spring and autumn.

[Seasonal characteristics of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China]

Objective: To study the seasonal characteristics of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout mainland China during 2013-2014. The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in each hospital was calculated, as well as the ratio of asthmatic patients to all the hospitalized patients. The analysis by month was conducted. The number and ratio of asthmatic patients in the northern and southern cities were calculated respectively. Results: During the study period, there were 6 480 patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% (6 480/206 135) of all the hospitalized patients of the respiratory department in 29 hospitals. The analysis by month showed that the ratio of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was highest in March (3.49%), then declined from April to June, then rose again from July, reaching a second peak at September (3.28%), and then declined again from October to December. The ratio of asthmatic patients in every month was higher in northern cities than in southern cities. Conclusions: The ratio of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China fluctuates with the changes of seasons, and March and September are the two peak months. Northern cities have a higher ratio of asthmatic patients than southern cities.
