Abstract
The posttranslational N-glycosylation of food proteins is important to their structure and function. However, the N-glycoproteomics of yellow preserved egg white were rarely reported. This study explored the changes of N-glycoproteome in yellow preserved eggs white after salt and alkali treatment. A total of 213 N-glycosites were identified on 102 glycoproteins, revealing prevalent glycosylation motifs and multiple N-glycosites within proteins. Salt and alkali treatment significantly altered the glycosylation patterns, impacting major proteins differently. GO analysis indicated the roles of differentially expressed glycoproteins in responding to stimuli and biological regulation. KEGG analysis emphasized the importance of salivary secretion pathway in enzyme secretion and peptide generation. Protein domain analysis highlighted the downregulation of Serpin. Protein-protein interaction networks revealed Apolipoprotein B as central players. This study provides essential structural information on the glycosylation modifications of egg white proteins, contributing to our understanding of the mechanisms behind the functional properties of preserved eggs.

Abstract
The enzyme activity of Daqu is an important prerequisite for defining it as a Baijiu starter. However, little is known about the functional species related to enzymes in different types of Daqu at the metagenomic level. Therefore, we analyzed the differences in enzymatic properties, microbial composition and metabolic function of three types of Daqu, namely high-, medium- and low-temperature Daqus (HTD, MTD and LTD), by combining chemical feature and multi-dimensional sequencing. The results showed that both liquefaction, saccharification, fermentation and esterification powers were remarkably weaker in HTD compared to MTD and LTD. Totally, 30 bacterial and 5 fungal phyla were identified and significant differences in community structures were also observed among samples, with Brevibacterium/Microascus, Pseudomonas, and Lactobacillus/Saccharomycopsis identified as biomarkers for HTD, MTD and LTD, respectively. Additionally, the importance of deterministic assembly in bacterial communities was proportional to the fermentation peak-temperature, while stochastic assembly dominated in fungal ones. Metagenomics analysis indicated eukaryota (>80 %, mainly Ascomycota) predominated in HTD and MTD while bacteria (54.3 %, mainly Actinobacteriota) were more abundant in LTD. However, the functional profiles and pathways of MTD and LTD were more similar, and the synthesis and metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids were the crucial biological functions of all samples. Finally, the relationship between species and enzymes in different samples was constructed and the functional species in LTD and MTD were more diverse than HTD, which elucidated the functional species associated with enzyme activity in each type of Daqu. These results will greatly enrich our understanding of the core functional species in three typical Daqu, which provide available information for rational regulation of Daqu quality and the Baijiu fermentation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to explore occupational stress, perceived respect, and the need for psychological counselling among nurses in China. STUDY DESIGN This was a nationwide cross-sectional study. METHODS Chinese nurses from 311 cities were randomly selected through a simple random sampling method. Occupational stress, perceived respect, and psychological counselling need were assessed using an online questionnaire validated by experts. The underlying associated factors were analysed using multiple logistic regression analyses. RESULTS We collected and analysed 51,406 valid online questionnaires. Family factors and low income were the most commonly cited sources of occupational stress, and 91.9% and 80.0% of nurses, respectively, perceived that individuals in society and patients did not give adequate respect. Furthermore, 75.5% and 79.7%, respectively, believed they were not respected by clinical managers and doctors. As a result, 64.7% nurses believed they had a moderate or high need for psychological counselling. However, 80.7% indicated that receiving adequate respect could decrease the need for stress-related psychological counselling. Indeed, multiple logistic regression analyses showed that lower respect perceived by nurses was associated with higher need for psychological counselling, particularly regarding criticism that nurses perceived from nursing managers (a little: odds ratio [OR], 1.597; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.176-2.170; P = 0.003; moderately: OR, 1.433; 95% CI, 1.180-1.741; P < 0.001) and the difficulty of receiving respect from patients and their families (a little: OR, 1.389; 95% CI, 1.044-1.850; P = 0.024). CONCLUSIONS Nurses in China perceive high levels of occupational stress and low levels of respect and often seek psychological counselling.

Abstract
As a prevalent neurodevelopmental disease, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) impairs the learning and memory capacity, and so far, there has been no available treatment option for long-term efficacy. Alterations in gene regulation and synapse-related proteins influence learning and memory capacity; nevertheless, the regulatory mechanism of synapse-related protein synthesis is still unclear in ADHD. LncRNAs have been found participating in regulating genes in multiple disorders. For instance, lncRNA Metastasis Associated Lung Adenocarcinoma Transcript 1 (MALAT1) has an essential regulatory function in numerous psychiatric diseases. However, how MALAT1 influences synapse-related protein synthesis in ADHD remains largely unknown. Here, our study found that MALAT1 decreased in the hippocampus tissue of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) compared to the standard controls, Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats. Subsequent experiments revealed that MALAT1 enhanced the expression of neurexin 1 (NRXN1), which promoted the synapse-related genes (SYN1, PSD95, and GAP43) expression. Then, the bioinformatic analyses predicted that miR-141-3p and miR-200a-3p, microRNAs belonging to miR-200 family and sharing same seed sequence, could interact with MALAT1 and NRXN1 mRNA, which were further confirmed by luciferase report assays. Finally, rescue experiments indicated that MALAT1 influenced the expression of NRXN1 by sponging miR-141-3p/200a-3p. All data verified our hypothesis that MALAT1 regulated synapse-related proteins (SYN1, PSD95, and GAP43) through the MALAT1-miR-141-3p/200a-3p-NRXN1 axis in ADHD. Our research underscored a novel role of MALAT1 in the pathogenesis of impaired learning and memory capacity in ADHD and may shed more light on developing diagnostic biomarkers and more effective therapeutic interventions for individuals with ADHD.

Abstract
Diflubenzuron has been applied in agriculture and aquaculture, and its residues in ecological environment and food chain could result in chronic exposure and long-term toxicity effects for human health. However, limited information is available regarding diflubenzuron levels in fish and associated risk assessment. This study performed the analysis for dynamic bioaccumulation and elimination distribution of diflubenzuron in carp tissues. The results indicated that diflubenzuron was absorbed and enriched by fish body along with higher enrichment in lipid-rich tissues of fish. The peak concentration in carp muscle reached 6-fold of diflubenzuron concentration in aquaculture water. The median lethal concentration (LC50) of diflubenzuron at 96 h was 12.29 mg/L, presented low toxicity to carp. Risk assessment results showed that the chronic risk from dietary exposure to diflubenzuron through carp consumption for Chinese residents of children and adolescents, adults and elderly people were acceptable, while posed a certain risk for young children. This study provided the reference for pollution control, risk assessment and scientific management of diflubenzuron.

Abstract
In order to investigate the changes of egg white of primary chicken eggs after being soaked in alkali solution, the tandem mass tags (TMT)-labeled quantitative proteomic technology combined with bioinformatics was conducted in this study. The results indicated that 100 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in yellow preserved primary egg white (YPPEW), 75 of which were highly and significantly correlated with the quality traits of YPPEW (| r | ≥ 0.9000, P < 0.01). Most of DEPs were involved in cellular processes by binding in extracellular space. Six pathways revealed the potential anti-inflammatory, anti-virus, anti-cancer and neuromodulatory mechanism of YPPEW. The current research provided a theoretical basis for the further study on YPPEW.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to reveal the relationship between core microorganisms and flavor substances in the fermentation process of corn wine. Microbial diversity, volatile and non-volatile flavor substances were detected by high-throughput sequencing (HTS), headspace solid phase micro-extraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS) and gas chromatography time of flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS). High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to detect organic acids in corn wine fermentation, and its physiochemical properties were tracked. The results showed that physiochemical factors changed obviously with fermentation time. Bacillus, Prevotella_9, Acinetobacter and Gluconobacter were the predominant bacterial. Rhizopus and Saccharomyces were the dominant fungi. Acetic acid and succinic acid were important organic acids in corn wine. According to variable importance of projection (VIP) > 1 and P < 0.05, 24 volatile flavor substances with significant difference were screened out from 52 volatile flavor substances. Similarly, 25 non-volatile flavor substances with significant differences were screened out from the 97 reliable metabolites identified by 223 chromatographic peaks. Eight key metabolic pathways were enriched from 25 non-volatile flavor substances according to path influence values > 0.1 and P < 0.05. Based on Two-way Orthogonal Partial Least Squares (O2PLS) model and Pearson correlation coefficient, Saccharomyces, Rhizopus, uncultured_bacterium, Aneurinibacillus, Wickerhamomyces and Gluconobacter may be the potential volatile flavor-contributing microorganism genus in corn wine. The Pearson correlation coefficient showed that Saccharomyces was significantly positively correlated with malic acid, oxalic acid, valine and isoleucine, and Rhizopus was positively correlated with glucose-1-phosphate and alanine. These findings enhanced our understanding of the formation mechanism of flavor substances in corn wine and provided the theoretical basis for stabilizing flavor quality of corn wine.

Abstract
The Chishui River basin is the main production area of the sauce-flavor Baijiu. Due to the particularity of sauce-flavor Baijiu technology, a large site of workshops needs to be built for brewing and storage. Therefore, used the natural karst caves of Guizhou province to manufacture the sauce-flavor Baijiu, which has enriched the connotation of sauce-flavor Baijiu and saved valuable land resources. In this study, the fermentation grains in the seven stages during the Xiasha round of the cave-brewed sauce-flavor Baijiu (CBSB) were detected using a combination of physicochemical analysis, Headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass detection, and Illumina HiSeq sequencing methods. The results showed Unspecified_Leuconostocaceae, Weissella, Unspecified_Bacillaceae, Saccharomycopsis, Thermomyces, and Unspecified_Phaffomycetaceae were the main bacterial and fungal genera in the stacking fermentation (SF). In the cellar fermentation (CF), the Lactobacillus, Unspecified_Lactobacillaceae, Thermoactinomyces, Saccharomycopsis, Unspecified_Phaffomycetaceae, and Wickerhamomyces were the main bacterial and fungal genera. A total of 72 volatiles were detected in the fermented grains. Linear discriminant analysis Effect Size (LEfSe) identified 23 significantly different volatile metabolites in the fermentation process, including 7 esters, 6 alcohols, 4 acids, 3 phenols, 1 hydrocarbon, and 2 other compounds. Redundancy analysis was used to explore the correlation between dominant microbial genera and physicochemical properties. Starch was the main physicochemical property affecting microbial succession in the SF. Acidity, moisture, and reducing sugar were the main driving factors of microbial succession in the CF. The Pearson correlation coefficient revealed the correlation between dominant microbial genera and significantly different volatile flavor substances. A total of 18 dominant microbial genera were associated with significantly different volatile metabolites, Lactobacillus, Weissella, Wickerhamomyces, and Aspergillus were shown to play crucial roles in metabolite synthesis. On this basis, a metabolic map of the dominant microbial genera was established. This study provides a theoretical basis for the production and quality control of sauce-flavor Baijiu brewed in natural karst caves and lays a foundation for studying the link between flavor formation and microorganisms.

Abstract
Objective: To develop a nomogram model for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) category 4 nodules based on serum tumor specific protein 70 (SP70) and conventional laboratory indicators and validate its predictive efficacy. Methods: A case-control study design was used to retrospectively analyze the data of 429 female patients diagnosed with BI-RADS category 4 breast nodules by breast color doppler flow imaging at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2021 to April 2022 with an age range of 16 to 91 years and a median age of 50 years, and the patients were divided into a training cohort (314 patients) and a validation cohort (115 patients) according to the inclusion time successively. Using postoperative pathological findings as the"gold standard", univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the predictor variables used for the model. The nomogram, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves were drawn for the prediction model, and the discrimination and calibration of the model were evaluated using the consistency index (C-index) and calibration plots. Results: The postoperative pathological results showed that 286 (66.7%) were malignant nodules and 143 (33.3%) were benign nodules of 429 breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules. The serum SP70 (OR=1.227,95%CI: 1.033-1.458,P=0.020), NLR (OR=1.545,95%CI: 1.047-2.280,P=0.028), LDL-C (OR=2.215, 95%CI: 1.354-3.622, P=0.002), GLU (OR=2.050,95%CI:1.222-3.438,P=0.007), PT (OR=1.383,95%CI: 1.046-1.828,P=0.023), nodule diameter (OR=1.042, 95%CI: 1.008-1.076, P=0.015) and age (OR=1.062,95%CI: 1.011-1.116,P=0.016) were independent risk factors which could be used to distinguish benign and malignant breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules (P<0.05). The nomogram was plotted by the above seven independent variables, and the concordance index (C-index) for the training cohort and validation cohort were 0.842 (95%CI:0.786-0.898) and 0.787 (95%CI:0.687-0.886), respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of using this model to identify benign and malignant breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules in the training and validation cohort were 83.5%, 72.5% and 79.2%, 73.6%, respectively. The calibration curves showed good agreement between the predicted and actual values in the nomogram. Conclusions: This study combined serum SP70, conventional laboratory indicators and breast color doppler flow imaging to develop a nomogram model for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast BI-RADS category 4 nodules. The model may have good predictive efficacy and may provide a basis for clinical treatment options, which is beneficial for guiding breast cancer screening and prevention.

Abstract
Tilapia juvenile (Oreochromis niloticus) (mean weight 50.00 ± 10.00 g) were aqueous exposed to different concentrations of the herbicide prometryn to investigate its acute toxicity, bioaccumulation and uptake and elimination rates. First, a 96-h acute toxicity test was carried out. The resulting 96 h LC50 was 5.49 mg/L, and the 96 h LC10 was 5.02 mg/L. Then, fish were exposed to 0.55 mg/L (1/10 96 h LC50) and 0.055 mg/L (1/100 96 h LC50) of prometryn solution for 28 days, followed by 14 days of elimination in clean groundwater. The result shows that in both water and tissues, prometryn concentrations fluctuated during the exposure period, indicating that steady state was not reached. The bioaccumulation of prometryn was the highest in liver, followed by gill, muscle and blood. The accumulated concentration levels in various tissues were always higher in the high concentration compared to the low concentration. The highest accumulated concentration of prometryn in various tissues in the 0.055 mg/L treatment were for muscle: 0.136 ± 0.0616 mg/kg (1 d), liver: 3.74 ± 2.95 mg/kg (7 d), gill: 0.971 ± 1.45 mg/kg (1 d) and blood: 0.0716 ± 0.0669 mg/kg (22 d). In the 0.55 mg/L treatment, the highest levels were for muscle: 1.27 ± 0.284 mg/kg (1 d), liver: 16.9 ± 12.7 mg/kg (7 d), gill: 8.11 ± 3.02 mg/kg (1 d) and blood: 0.751 ± 0.0775 mg/kg (22 d). The highest bioconcentration factor (BCF) of 93.1 was observed in the liver when exposed to the low concentration. Besides, for other tissues, the highest BCF were for muscle: 5.76, gill: 32.3 and blood: 2.91, all observed in the 0.55 mg/L treatment. Most of the accumulated prometryn was removed from all tissues within 24 h after the organisms were transferred to clean water. However, management of using prometryn in China aquaculture should be improved to prevent possible ecotoxicological effects and ensure food safety.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of placenta previa attached to cesarean scar for adverse pregnant outcomes in patients with or without placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PAS). Methods: The clinical information of patients with cesarean section history and placenta previa during the perioperative period at Peking University First Hospital from January 1st, 2015 to December 31st, 2020 were collected retrospectively. There were 53 cases without PAS and 172 cases with PAS, 153 cases with abnormally invasive placenta (containing placenta increta and placenta percreta) and 72 cases without PAS or with placenta accreta. The pregnant outcomes including rate of postpartum hemorrhage, transfusion, hysterectomy between the above groups were compared. Multivariate analysis was performed to study the factors significantly associated with PAS. Results: Pregnant women with PAS were at higher risk of adverse pregnant outcomes than those without PAS. Patients with PAS had higher incidences of hysterectomy [12.2% (21/172) vs 0(0/53); P=0.005], postpartum hemorrhage [60.5% (104/172) vs 5.7% (3/53); P<0.01] and blood transfusion [66.9% (115/172) vs 7.5% (4/53); P<0.01]. In the subgroup analysis stratified by the type of PAS, patients with abnormally invasive placenta were at higher risk of hysterectomy [13.7% (21/153) vs 0 (0/72); P<0.01], postpartum hemorrhage [66.7% (102/153) vs 6.9% (5/72); χ²=70.873, P<0.01] and blood transfusion [74.5% (114/153) vs 6.9% (5/72); χ²=90.869, P<0.01]. After multiple logistic regression, the type of creta had the positive relation with postpartum hemorrhage (OR=27.622, 95%CI:9.873~77.280; P<0.01) and blood transfusion (OR=36.912, 95%CI:13.239~102.922; P<0.01). There were no significant correlations between adverse pregnant outcomes and the type of placenta previa or the times of cesarean section (all P>0.01). Conclusions: Placenta previa attached to cesarean scar without PAS or with placenta accreta could not act as the factor of predicting adverse pregnant outcomes in clinic. Placenta previa attached to cesarean scar with placenta increta or placenta percreta could increase the risk of adverse pregnant outcomes.

Abstract
Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are commonly applied to fish as a means of growth promotion and disease prevention. However, evidence regarding whether LAB colonize the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of fish remains sparse and controversial. Here, we investigated whether Lacticaseibacillus casei ATCC 393 (Lc) can colonize the GI tract of crucian carp. Sterile feed irradiated with 60Co was used to eliminate the influence of microbes, and 100% rearing water was renewed at 5-day intervals to reduce the fecal–oral circulation of microbes. The experiment lasted 47 days and was divided into three stages: the baseline period (21 days), the administration period (7 days: day −6 to 0) and the post-administration period (day 1 to 19). Control groups were fed a sterile basal diet during the whole experimental period, whereas treatment groups were fed with a mixed diet containing Lc (1 × 107 cfu/g) and spore of Geobacillus stearothermophilus (Gs, 1 × 107 cfu/g) during the administration period and a sterile basal diet during the baseline and post-administration periods. An improved and highly sensitive selective culture method (SCM) was employed in combination with a transit marker (a Gs spore) to monitor the elimination of Lc in the GI tract. The results showed that Lc (<2 cfu/gastrointestine) could not be detected in any of the fish sampled from the treatment group 7 days after the cessation of the mixed diet, whereas Gs could still be detected in seven out of nine fish at day 11 and could not be detected at all at day 15. Therefore, the elimination speed of Lc was faster than that of the transit marker. Furthermore, high-throughput sequencing analysis combined with SCM was used to reconfirm the elimination kinetics of Lc in the GI tract. The results show that the Lc in the crucian carp GI tract, despite being retained at low relative abundance from day 7 (0.11% ± 0.03%) to 21, was not viable. The experiments indicate that Lc ATCC 393 cannot colonize the GI tract of crucian carp, and the improved selective culture in combination with a transit marker represents a good method for studying LAB colonization of fish.

Abstract
Suan zuo rou (SZR), a traditional fermented meat from Guizhou province, China, is loved by local people for its unique flavor and nutritional value. However, the microbial communities and related flavor characteristics of SZR from different regions of Guizhou are unclear. We studied the correlation between the microbial communities and the physicochemical properties and volatile flavor compounds (VFCs) of 15 SZR samples from three regions in Guizhou province. The microbial community structure of SZR was determined by high-throughput sequencing and VFCs were identified by headspace-solid phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results indicated that the microbial communities of SZR varied among the regions, as evidenced by the relative abundance of Weissella, Staphylococcus, Brochothrix, Kazachstania, and Debaryomces. There were also significant differences in pH, water activity, NaCl, and total volatile basic nitrogen (P < 0.05). Based on orthogonal projections to latent structures and Pearson’s correlation coefficient, we showed that Wickerhamomyces, Kazachstania, Lactobacillus, Weissella, Brochothrix, Debaryomyces, Staphylococcus, Pediococcus, Pichia, Candida, and Leuconostoc were highly correlated with 48 VFCs (| ρ| > 0.8, P < 0.05). Redundancy analysis showed that most of the dominant bacteria were positively related to water activity, whereas Lactobacillus was positively related with pH, and negatively related with total volatile basic nitrogen.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The incidence of pulmonary adenocarcinoma locates first in all the malignant tumors in the world. At present, there are many diagnostic methods for pulmonary adenocarcinoma, but there are a few methods that are mature or have ideal application prospects. We aim to explore the role of VRK2 in the occurrence and development of pulmonary adenocarcinoma and its possible regulatory mechanism. PATIENTS AND METHODS Western blot and qRT-PCR were performed to assess the expression of VRK2. Flow cytometry, Western blot, and Caspase-3 colorimetric assay Kit were used to evaluate the apoptosis level. The proliferation, migration, and invasion ability were measured via cell cycle assay, wound healing, and transwell invasion assay. Luciferase assay verified the relationship between VRK2 and miR-145-5p. The effect of FGD5-AS1 on tumorigenesis of glioma was detected by the xenograft nude mice model. RESULTS VRK2 was significantly increased in tumor tissues and cell lines. Loss of VRK2 promoted apoptosis level and inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion in A549 cells via regulating the ERK1/2/AKT signal pathway. Luciferase assay reported that VRK2 could bind with miR-145-5p. The level of miR-145-5p was negatively correlated with the expression of VRK2 and involved in VRK2 regulating tumor progression. The tumor growth assay showed that the silencing of VRK2 inhibited tumorigenesis with the inactivating ERK1/2/AKT pathway. CONCLUSIONS Knockdown of VRK2 inhibited the development of pulmonary adenocarcinoma via regulating the ERK1/2/AKT signal pathway by targeting miR-145-5p, which providing some novel experimental basis for clinical treatment of pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
Objective: To rapidly evaluate the level of healthcare resource demand for laboratory testing and prevention and control of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in different epidemic situation, and prepare for the capacity planning, stockpile distribution, and funding raising for infectious disease epidemic response. Methods: An susceptible, exposed, infectious, removed infectious disease dynamics model with confirmed asymptomatic infection cases and symptomatic hospitalized patients was introduced to simulate different COVID-19 epidemic situation and predict the numbers of hospitalized or isolated patients, and based on the current COVID-19 prevention and control measures in China, the demands of resources for laboratory testing and prevention and control of COVID-19 were evaluated. Results: When community or local transmission or outbreaks occur and total population nucleic acid testing is implemented, the need for human resources is 3.3-89.1 times higher than the reserved, and the current resources of medical personal protective equipment and instruments can meet the need. The surge in asymptomatic infections can also increase the human resource demand for laboratory testing and pose challenge to the prevention and control of the disease. When vaccine protection coverage reach ≥50%, appropriate adjustment of the prevention and control measures can reduce the need for laboratory and human resources. Conclusions: There is a great need in our country to reserve the human resources for laboratory testing and disease prevention and control for the response of the possible epidemic of COVID-19. Challenges to human resources resulted from total population nucleic acid testing and its necessity need to be considered. Conducting non-pharmaceutical interventions and encouraging more people to be vaccinated can mitigate the shock on healthcare resource demand in COVID-19 prevention and control.

Abstract
With the rapid expansion of maritime traffic, increases in air emissions from shipping have exacerbated numerous environmental issues, including air pollution and climate change. However, the effects of such emissions on marine biogeochemistry remain poorly understood. Here, we collected ship-emitted particles (SEPs) from the stack of a heavy-oil-powered vessel using an onboard emission test system and investigated the impact of SEPs on phytoplankton growth over the northwest Pacific Ocean (NWPO). In SEP microcosm experiments conducted in oceanic zones with different trophic statuses, the phytoplankton response, as indicated by chlorophyll a (Chl a), has been shown to increase with the proportion of SEP-derived nitrogen (N) relative to N stocks (PSN) in baseline seawater, suggesting that SEPs generally promote phytoplankton growth via N fertilisation. Simulations using an air quality model combined with a ship emission inventory further showed that oxidised N (NOx) emissions from shipping contributed ~43% of the atmospheric N deposition flux in the NWPO. Air emissions from shipping (e.g. NOx and sulphur dioxide) also indirectly enhanced the deposition of reduced N that existed in the atmosphere, constituting ~15% of the atmospheric N deposition flux. These results suggest that the impact of airborne ship emissions on atmospheric N deposition is comparable to that of land-based emissions in the NWPO. Based on the ship-induced PSN in surface seawater calculated by modeling results and World Ocean Atlas 2013 nutrient dataset, and the well-established quantitative relationship between Chl a and PSN obtained from microcosm experiments, we found a noticeable change in surface Chl a concentrations due to N deposition derived from marine traffic in the NWPO, particularly in the coastal waters of the Yellow Sea and open oceans. This work attempts to establish a direct link between marine productivity and air emissions from shipping.

Xiaoqu, one of three traditional jiuqu in China, is a saccharifying and fermenting agent used in Xiaoqu jiu brewing, with different ingredient compositions and preparation techniques used in various regions. The yield and quality of Xiaoqu jiu are significantly affected by the metabolites and microbiota of Xiaoqu; however, the associated relationship remains poorly understood. This study aimed to analyze this relationship in three typical traditional Xiaoqu from the Guizhou province in China. The non-volatile metabolites of Xiaoqu were detected using gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry, whereas the classification and metabolic potential of the microbiota were investigated using metagenomic sequencing. Results show that Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria represent the dominant bacterial phyla, with Lactobacillus, Bacillus, Acinetobacter, Leuconostoc, and Weissella found to be the dominant bacterial genera. Meanwhile, Ascomycota, Mucoromycota, and Basidiomycota are the dominant fungal phyla with Aspergillus, Saccharomyces, Pichia, Rhizopus, and Phycomyces being the predominant fungal genera. Functional annotation of the microbiota revealed a major association with metabolism of carbohydrates, cofactors, and vitamins, as well as amino acids. A total of 39 significantly different metabolites (SDMs) were identified that are involved in 47 metabolic pathways, primarily that of starch and sucrose; glycine, serine, and threonine; glyoxylate and dicarboxylate; pyruvate; as well as biosynthesis of pantothenate and CoA. Further, based on Spearman's correlation analysis, Aspergillus, Saccharomyces, Lactobacillus, Acetobacter, Weissella, Pantoea, Desmospora, and Bacillus are closely correlated with production of physicochemical indexes and SDMs. Moreover, the metabolic network generated for the breakdown of substrates and formation of SDMs in Xiaoqu was found to primarily center on the metabolism of carbohydrates and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. These results provide insights into the functional microorganisms and metabolic patterns present in traditional Guizhou Xiaoqu and might guide researchers in the production of stable and efficient Xiaoqu in the future.

Abstract
Black glutinous rice wine (BGRW) is a popular traditional Chinese rice wine; however, the flavors profiles associated with microbiota changes during its fermentation have not yet been evaluated. In this study, we explored the correlations between microbial communities with physicochemical properties and flavor components during BGRW fermentation. High-throughput sequencing was used to identify the microbial community composition of BGRW at different fermentation stages, and physicochemical properties and volatile flavor compounds (VFCs) were identified via fermentation features testing and headspace solid phase microextraction gas chromatography mass spectrometry. First, we revealed Pantoea and Kosakonia predominated bacterial genera the early stage of BGRW fermentation, Leuconostoc, Pediococcus, Bacillus, and Lactobacillus predominated bacterial genera the later stage, while Rhizopus and Saccharomyces were the predominant fungal genera throughout fermentation. Second, total sugars, titratable acids, pH, ethanol, amino acid nitrogen, and 43 VFCs were detected during fermentation. Twenty-three VFCs were differentially produced according to the linear discriminant analysis effect size method. With the increase of the fermentation time, the kinds and contents of esters and alcohols were also increased, while acids decreased. Moreover, 12 microbial genera, Lactococcus, Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, Cronobacter, Pantoea, Weissella, Enterococcus, Rhizopus, Myceliophthora, Cystofilobasidium, and Aspergillus were found to be highly correlated (|ρ| > 0.7 and P < 0.05) with physicochemical properties and VFCs, by redundancy analysis (RDA) and two-way orthogonal partial least squares (O2PLS) analysis. Ultimately, based on the results, a metabolic map of dominant genera in BGRW was established. Our findings provided detailed information on the dynamic changes of physicochemical properties and VFCs and selection of beneficial strains to improve the quality of BGRW.

Abstract
Dust deposition can supply nutrients that affect marine phytoplankton, but changing trophic statuses of the surface ocean increase the complexity of interpreting the process. In this study, four onboard incubation experiments amended with various nutrients and dust were performed in the Kuroshio Extension (KE) and Kuroshio-Oyashio transition (TR) of the northwest Pacific (NWP), which are characterised by lower and higher trophic statuses, respectively. According to the nutrient-addition experiments, phytoplankton were limited by nitrogen (N) in the KE, and limited by iron (Fe) or co-limited by Fe and phosphorus (P) in the TR. Dust additions supplied a considerable amount of N and Fe but negligible amount of P to stimulate phytoplankton growth, as indicated by chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration. In the KE incubations, dust additions enhanced the shift of phytoplankton size structure towards larger cells from dominantly pico-sized (0.2-2 μm) Chl a to comparable contributions from each size class (i.e. pico-, nano-: 2-20 μm, micro-: >20 μm). On the basis of the large shift of size structure towards nano- or micro-phytoplankton in the unamended control treatments in the TR, dust additions furtherly promoted the shift towards micro-phytoplankton becoming the dominant contributor to the total Chl a. The collective analysis of the data from experiments in both regions revealed that, the extent of phytoplankton growth stimulation and the shift towards larger cells were enhanced gradually with increasing amounts of nutrient uptake (including N, P, and silicon). The nutrient uptake ratios of phytoplankton converged towards the Redfield ratio in comparison to the wider range of nutrient ratios in the dust-amended seawater. This study suggested consistencies in the dynamic of phytoplankton growth, shift of size structure, and nutrient uptake following dust additions in the KE and TR, although the trophic status and limiting nutrient varied between these two regions.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics and long-term prognosis of implantation of drug-eluting stents (DES) for elderly patients with unprotected left main artery (ULM) disease. Methods: A total of 414 patients (327 males and 87 females) who underwent DES implantation were enrolled in the Department of Cardiology, Beijing Anzhen Hospital from January 2005 to March 2010, with a mean age of (61.5±10.7) years old. The patients were divided into two groups according to age: 300 cases in the group of age <70 years old, and 114 cases in the group of age ≥70 years old. The clinical characteristics and long-term prognosis of two groups were compared. Results: In the group of age ≥ 70 years old, the proportion of female was higher (31.6% vs 17.0%, P=0.001) and the incidence of chronic total occlusion (CTO) (P=0.020), hypertension (P=0.018) and cerebrovascular disease (P=0.013) were higher than those in the group of <70 years old. All-cause mortality and cardiac mortality were also higher than those in the group of <70 years old (P=0.025, P=0.013). The follow-up period was (21.4±9.6) months. After adjusting for multiple clinical factors, there were no statistical differences of incidence of the total major adverse cardiac and cerebral events (MACCE), myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular events, and revascularization recurrence between the two groups. But all-cause mortality (HR=3.790, 95%CI: 1.271-11.298, P=0.017) and cardiac mortality (HR=17.424, 95%CI: 2.440-124.410, P=0.004) in the group of age ≥70 years old were still remarkably higher than those in the group of <70 years old. Conclusions: Age is an independent risk factor for increased mortality after DES stent implantation in ULM disease. DES stent implantation in age ≥70 years old patients with ULM disease is considered feasible, but it needs to be treated with caution.

Abstract
AIM The present study examined the associations between night-time sleep duration, midday napping duration and bedtime, and fasting glucose levels, and whether or not such associations are dependent on gender and age. METHODS This study was a cross-sectional analysis of 172,901 adults aged≥40 years living in mainland China. Sleep duration was obtained by self-reports of bedtime at night, waking-up time the next morning and average napping duration at midday. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG)≥7.0mmol/L was defined as hyperglycaemia. Independent associations between night-time sleep duration, midday naptime duration and bedtime with hyperglycaemia were evaluated using regression models. RESULTS Compared with night-time sleep durations of 6-7.9h, both short (<6h) and long (≥8h) night-time sleep durations were significantly associated with an increased risk of hyperglycaemia in women [odds ratio (OR): 1.12, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-1.29 and OR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.08-1.21, respectively], and revealed a U-shaped distribution of risk in women and no significant association in men. Long midday nap durations (≥1h) were significantly but weakly associated with hyperglycaemia (OR: 1.04, 95% CI: 1.01-1.09) compared with no napping without interactions from gender or age, whereas the association between bedtime and fasting glucose levels did vary according to gender and age. CONCLUSION Night-time sleep duration, midday napping duration and bedtime were all independently associated with the risk of hyperglycaemia, and some of the associations between these sleep characteristics and hyperglycaemia were gender- and age-dependent.

Abstract
Black waxy rice wine fermentation metabolites are closely related to the product's final quality. However, little is known about dynamic metabolite changes during fermentation. Here, we used gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS) metabolomics and multivariate statistical analysis to explore the relationship between metabolites and fermentation time. A total of 159 metabolites were identified during the entire fermentation process. The PCA analysis revealed a clear separation between the samples after 4 days and 2 days, and the samples after 4-24 days clustered together. This indicated that BGRW fermentation progresses rapidly in the first 48 hr of fermentation. A total of 40 metabolites were identified as differential during fermentation (VIP > 1 and p < .05), including 12 organic acids, four amino acids, one fatty acid, 17 sugars and sugar alcohols, one alcohol, and five other metabolites. Pathway analysis showed that the differential metabolites were involved in 28 metabolic pathways, and the most commonly influenced pathways (impact value > 0.1 and p < .05) were galactose metabolism, pyruvate metabolism; starch and sucrose metabolism; alanine, aspartic acid, and glutamate metabolism; the tricarboxylic acid cycle, glyoxylic acid, and dicarboxylic acid metabolism; and amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism. Moreover, the integrated metabolic pathway was generated to understand the transformation and accumulation of differential metabolites. Overall, these results provide a comprehensive overview of metabolite changes during black waxy rice wine fermentation.

Abstract
Black glutinous rice wine (BGRW) is a traditional Chinese rice wine that is brewed using multiple strains. However, the roles of these microorganisms, particularly their contributions to aroma formation, are poorly understood. Accordingly, the main goal of this study was to determine the microbial communities and major metabolites of different traditional fermentation starters. Anshun (AS) starter and Xingyi (XY) starter were used for BGRW to provide insight into their potential contributions to the variation in flavor and aroma. High-throughput sequencing of the microbial community using the Illumina MiSeq platform revealed significant differences during fermentation between the two starter groups. Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, and Bacillus were the dominant bacterial genera in the AS group, whereas Leuconostoc, Pediococcus, and Gluconobacter were the dominant genera in the XY group. In addition, Rhizopus, Saccharomyces, and Saccharomycopsis were the predominant fungal genera detected in both samples. The major metabolites in the two groups were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography and headspace-solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. A total of seven organic acids along with 47 (AS) and 43 (XY) volatile metabolites were detected, among which lactic acid was the primary organic acid, and esters were the largest group in both types of wine. Principal components analysis further revealed significant differences in the dynamic succession of metabolites between the two samples. Correlation analysis showed that 22 and 17 microorganisms were strongly correlated with the production of major metabolites in AS and XY, respectively. Among them, Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, and Streptococcus were shown to play crucial roles in metabolite synthesis. Overall, this study can provide a valuable resource for the further development and utilization of starters to improve the aromatic quality of BGRW.

Abstract
Malachite green is a common environmental pollutant that poses a great threat to non-target organisms, including humans. This study reports the characterization of a bacterial strain, Pseudomonas veronii JW3-6, which was isolated from a malachite green enrichment culture. This strain degraded malachite green efficiently in a wide range of temperature and pH levels. Under optimal degradation conditions (32.4 °C, pH 7.1, and inoculum amount of 2.5 × 107 cfu/mL), P. veronii JW3-6 could degrade 93.5% of 50 mg/L malachite green within seven days. Five intermediate products from the degradation of malachite green were identified: leucomalachite green, 4-(dimethylamino) benzophenone, 4-dimethylaminophenol, benzaldehyde, and hydroquinone. We propose a possible degradation pathway based on these findings. The present study is the first to report the degradation of malachite green by P. veronii and the identification of hydroquinone as a metabolite in the degradation pathway.

Abstract
Panxian ham, a traditional Chinese dry-cured ham, is protected by national geographical indication. Similar to other fermented foods, the microbial population of dry-cured ham is pivotal to taste and flavor formation. This study aimed to establish the relationship between microorganisms and metabolites during the spontaneous fermentation of Panxian ham. Multivariate analysis based on metabolomics data revealed that continuous metabolic changes occurred during the entire fermentation process, with the most significant changes occurring in the initial stage of ripening. Thirty-one significantly different metabolites (SDMs) were identified as discriminant factor, and pathway analysis suggested that these metabolites were involved in 30 pathways, including alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism; glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism; and arginine and proline metabolism. Microbial community analysis using the Illumina MiSeq platform indicated that the bacterial community was more complex than the fungal community, and their succession regulation differed during processing. At the genus level, 11 bacteria and five fungi were identified as core microbes, of which Staphylococcus was the dominant bacteria and Debaryomyces and Aspergillus were the dominant fungi. Further, statistical redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that Staphylococcus, Debaryomyces, and Chromohalobacter promoted the production of amino and fatty acids; Cobetia and Aspergillus were associated with sugar metabolism, and Kushneria, Penicillium, and Yamadazyma were closely related with organic acids. These findings provide fundamental knowledge regarding the metabolically active microorganisms in Panxian ham, helping industrial processors to develop effective strategies for standardizing quality parameters.

Bacillus coagulans is a probiotic bacterium that produces spores. Due to its excellent stability, it has been widely used in medicine, food and chemical industry. Recent studies have shown that B. coagulans has therapeutic effects on intestinal diseases, such as acute diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome, antibiotic-related diarrhoea, constipation and colitis via modulation of the microbiota composition, host immunity and metabolism. Additionally, toxicological experiments and a large number of clinical observations have showed that B. coagulans is safe and has no effect of mutagenicity, teratogenicity or genotoxicity. This review summarises the latest advances associated with B. coagulans, from its biological features, probable action mechanisms, toxicity, and medical applications.

Abstract
Sperm-mediated gene transfer (SMGT) is based on the ability of spermatozoa to bind exoge- nous DNA and transfer it into oocytes by fertilization. However, SMGT is still undergoing opti- mization to improve its efficiency to produce transgenic animals. The acrosome reaction is neces- sary for spermatozoa to carry the exogenous DNA into oocytes. In this study, the effect of the acrosome reaction on the efficiency of spermatozoa carrying exogenous DNA was evalua- ted. The results showed that the efficiency of the acrosome reaction was significantly higher (p⟨0.05) after incubation with 50 μmol/L progesterone compared to incubation without proges- terone. It was significantly higher (p⟨0.05) in the 20, 40, and 60 min of progesterone treatment groups than in the 0 min treatment group. The spermatozoa were further incubated with cyanine dye Cy5 labeled DNA (Cy5-DNA) for 30 min at 37°C, and positive fluorescence signals were detected after the acrosome reaction was induced by progesterone at concentrations of 0 and 50 μmol/L for 40 min. The percentage of positive Cy5-DNA signals in spermatozoa was 96.61±2.06% and 97.51±2.03% following exposure to 0 and 50 μmol/L progesterone, respective- ly. The percentage of partial spermatozoa heads observed following combination with Cy5-DNA was 39.73±3.03% and 56.88±3.12% following exposure to 0 and 50 μmol/L progesterone, respec- tively. The ratio of positively stained spermatozoa combined with exogenous DNA showed no reduction after the acrosome reaction. These results suggest that the acrosome reaction might not be the key factor affecting the efficiency of SMGT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Renin-angiotensin axis plays a pivotal role in the cardiovascular system, and Angiotensin II (Ang II) is of great importance in the progression of hypertension. Vasoactive peptide intermedin (IMD) belongs to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) family, which is involved in the regulation of the cardiovascular function. This study aims to determine the effect of vasoactive peptide intermedin on vascular collagen remodeling caused by angiotensin II-induced hypertension. MATERIALS AND METHODS 12-week old rats were randomly assigned into three groups, and each group consisted of 12 rats. Rats were administered with Ang II or Ang II+IMD, respectively. Control group received saline administration. Blood pressure of caudal artery was examined two weeks after administration. Serum procollagen I and III were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The vascular microstructure was examined via hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining to evaluate vascular collagen remodeling. Expressions of protein kinase B (Akt) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) were tested by using Western-blot and RT-PCR. RESULTS Compared with the control group (92.2±9.1 mmHg), blood pressure of group Ang II was increased by 88% (173.1±11.2 mmHg) (p<0.01). Moreover, blood pressure level in group Ang II+IMD (131.0±10.9 mmHg) was reduced compared to that in group Ang II (p<0.05). Compared with that in control group, higher level of serum procollagen, with significantly increasing vascular W/C ratio and collagen area percentage, was found in group Ang II, while all testing indexes above in group Ang II+IMD were lower than that in group Ang II. No differences were detected in the levels of Akt and MAPK mRNA among all three groups. However, highest expressions of phosphorylation Akt and MAPK protein were shown in group Ang II, and the levels were gradually lower in groups of Ang II+IMD and control. CONCLUSIONS IMD could attenuate the vascular collagen remodeling caused by angiotensin II-induced hypertension via inhibiting phosphorylation of Akt and MAPK.

Abstract
Sperm-mediated gene transfer(SMGT) is a simple method for producing transgenic animals. Due to the lack of repeatability in spermatozoa binding and internalization of exogenous DNA, the efficiency of SMGT is still low. Considering this point, the present work aims to develop a method for evaluating the spermatozoa capacity of binding exogenous DNA after co-incubation with DNA. The main approach is using a Cy5-labelled DNA to trace the exogenous DNA and assess the ability of spermatozoa to take up exogenous DNA. Using this technique, we found that the percentage of spermatozoa that are binding and uptaking DNA is higher at concentration of 10 μg/mL and 100 μg/mL than 5 μg/mL, 1 μg/mL and 0 μg/mL after incubation with Cy5-DNA for 30min at 37oC. After fertilization, the DNA fluorescence signal was also detected in zygotes in groups where spermatozoa were incubated with 10 μg/mL and 100 μg/mL of Cy5-DNA. These results showed a simple and convenient method to trace the exogenous DNA in spermatozoa and zygote when compared to conventional methods of labeling DNA during fertilization, resulting in a real-time observation of the exogenous DNA in spermatozoa and zygote.
