Abstract
In recent years, China has been facing a shortage of cadavers for teaching medical students. A better comprehension of the attitudes and factors influencing the general public's opinion toward body donation would be invaluable for planning and implementing body donation programs. Although altruistic attitude and attitudes toward death have received considerable attention in recent years globally, they have been largely understudied in China. Herein, the potential relationship between attitudes toward altruism and death, and willingness toward whole-body donation in a sample of university students in Changsha City in China were analyzed. A multi-stage sampling method was adopted to recruit 478 Chinese college students from two universities: the Medical College of Hunan Normal University (n = 272) and the College of Civil engineering of Hunan University (n = 206). The study participants were assessed by a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R-C) questionnaire, and the altruism scale. Moreover, Chinese University students demonstrated moderate willingness to donate their bodies. The mean score of the willingness of study participants to donate their bodies was 3.138 ± 0.933 (5-point Likert scale). Acceptance toward death, gender, and type of university were positive factors, whereas fear of death negatively affected willingness toward body donation. Regression analysis showed that factors, including gender (β = 0.237), type of university (β = 0.193), natural acceptance (β = 0.177), and fear of death (β = -0.160) influenced willingness toward body donation. Overall, the present study provides hitherto undocumented evidence on factors influencing willingness toward body donation among Chinese university students, which can assist in designing public awareness programs for encouraging body donation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the primary cause of anovulatory infertility, bringing serious harm to women's physical and mental health. Acupuncture may be an effective treatment for PCOS. However, systematic reviews (SRs) on the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for PCOS have reported inconsistent results, and the quality of these studies has not been adequately assessed. OBJECTIVE To summarize and evaluate the current evidence on the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for PCOS, as well as to assess the quality and risks of bias of the available SRs. SEARCH STRATEGY Nine electronic databases (Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, Chongqing VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database, and China Biology Medicine disc) were searched from their establishment to July 27, 2022. Based on the principle of combining subject words with text words, the search strategy was constructed around search terms for "acupuncture," "polycystic ovary syndrome," and "systematic review." INCLUSION CRITERIA SRs of randomized controlled trials that explored the efficacy and (or) safety of acupuncture for treating patients with PCOS were included. DATA EXTRACTION AND ANALYSIS Two authors independently extracted study data according to a predesigned form. Tools for evaluating the methodological quality, risk of bias, reporting quality, and confidence in study outcomes, including A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2), Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews (ROBIS), Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses for Acupuncture (PRISMA-A), and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE), were used to score the included SRs. RESULTS A total of 885 studies were retrieved, and 11 eligible SRs were finally included in this review. The methodological quality of 2 SRs (18.18%) was low, while the other 9 SRs (81.82%) were scored as extremely low. Four SRs (36.36%) were considered to be of low risk of bias. As for reporting quality, the reporting completeness of 9 SRs (81.82%) was more than 70%. Concerning the confidence in study results, 2 study results were considered to have a high quality of evidence (3.13%), 14 (21.88%) a "moderate" quality, 28 (43.75%) a "low" quality, and 20 (31.24%) considered a "very low" quality. Descriptive analyses suggested that combining acupuncture with other medicines can effectively improve the clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) and ovulation rate, and reduce luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulating hormone ratio, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, and body mass index (BMI). When compared with medicine alone, acupuncture alone also can improve CPR. Further, when compared with no intervention, acupuncture had a better effect in promoting the recovery of menstrual cycle and reducing BMI. Acupuncture was reported to cause no adverse events or some adverse events without serious harm. CONCLUSION The efficacy and safety of acupuncture for PCOS remains uncertain due to the limitations and inconsistencies of current evidence. More high-quality studies are needed to support the use of acupuncture in PCOS.

Abstract
Trans-urocanic acid (trans-UCA) is an isomer of cis-UCA and is widely distributed in the brain, predominantly in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Previous studies have investigated the role of trans-UCA in non-spatial memory; however, its influence on spatial memory remains unclear. In the present study, network pharmacology strategy and behavioral testing were used to evaluate the role of trans-UCA in spatial memory and predict its possible mechanism. The results showed that there are 40 intersecting targets between trans-UCA and spatial memory identified by several databases and Venn diagram, indicating that trans-UCA may be involved in spatial memory. Behavioral results show that trans-UCA facilitates spatial working memory in the Y-maze test as well as spatial recognition memory acquisition, consolidation and retrieval in an object location recognition (OLR) task. Furthermore, PPI (protein-protein interaction) network analysis, GO (gene ontology) and KEGG (Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes) pathway enrichment analyses show that the molecular mechanisms underlying the enhancing effect of trans-UCA on spatial memory are mainly associated with the regulation of insulin, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor Kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathways, serotonergic synapse and arginine and proline metabolism. The results of this study suggest that trans-UCA facilitates spatial memory in the Y-maze test and OLR task and may offer therapeutic potential for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The underlying mechanisms predicted by network pharmacology should be further verified.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Most overweight/obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have infertility issues which are difficult to treat. Non-pharmacological interventions used for the management of infertility include lifestyle interventions, acupuncture therapies and nutritional supplements. These interventions have been reported to be beneficial in alleviating infertility among overweight women with PCOS. However, effect and safety of these non-pharmacological interventions vary, and there is no standard method of clinical application. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) to rank these non-pharmacological interventions in terms of effect and determine which one is more effective for clinical application. METHODS AND ANALYSIS We will retrieve eight databases including Cochrane Library, Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Data, the Chongqing VIP Database and China Biology Medicine disc from their inceptions onwards. In addition, four clinical trial registries and the related references will be manually retrieved. The primary outcome will be clinical pregnancy. Live birth, ovulation, pregnancy loss, multiple pregnancy and adverse events related to interventions will be considered as the secondary outcomes. STATA software V.15.0 and Aggregate Data Drug Information System V.1.16.8 will be used to conduct pairwise meta-analysis and NMA. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system will be adopted to evaluate the certainty of evidence. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval will not be required because the study will not include the original information of participants. The results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal or disseminated in relevant conferences. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42021283110.

Abstract
Depression, a mood disorder, affects one in fifteen adults, has multiple risk factors and is associated with complicated underlying pathological mechanisms. P-coumaric acid (p-CA), a phenolic acid, is widely distributed in vegetables, fruits and mushrooms. P-CA has demonstrated a protective role against oxidative stress and inflammation in various diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. In the current study, we investigated the protection of p-CA against depression and memory impairment in a corticosterone (CORT)-induced chronic depressive mouse model. CORT administration resulted in depression-like behaviors and memory impairment. P-CA treatment alleviated CORT-induced depression-related behaviors and memory impairment. Network pharmacology predicted that p-CA had multiple targets and mediated various signaling pathways, of which inflammation-associated targets and signaling pathways are predominant. Western blotting showed CORT-induced activation of the advanced glycation end product (AGE)-receptor of AGE (RAGE) (AGE-RAGE) signaling and increased expression of the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα) in the hippocampus, while p-CA treatment inactivated AGE-RAGE signaling and decreased the levels of IL-1β and TNFα, suggesting that protection against depression and memory impairment by p-CA is mediated by the inhibition of inflammation, mainly via the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway. Our data suggest that p-CA treatment will benefit patients with depression.

Abstract
Viciamingyueshanensis, a new species from the Mingyue Mountain Region of western Jiangxi, China, is described and illustrated. It is a perennial climbing liana that always links to riparian woods. A morphological comparison indicated that the new species is closely similar to Viciataipaica K. T. Fu and Viciadichroantha Diels; however, it differs from the other two species by several salient characters, such as plant indumentum, stipule shape, corolla colour, bractlet shape and calyx shape. Photographs, a preliminary conservation assessment, table of morphological characters and distribution map comparing this new species to two morphologically-similar species are also provided.

Abstract
Objective To obtain evidence-based conclusions about the effect of acupuncture on pain relief in women undergoing oocyte retrieval, the results of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that met the criteria were assessed on the Pain Assessment Scale and pregnancy indicators. Search Methods References were retrieved in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CNKI database, CBM database, VIP database, and Wanfang database from inception to June 26, 2021. Unpublished ongoing trials were searched in the Clinical Trials Registries. This review included RCTs that investigated the acupuncture analgesic effects during oocyte retrieval in women undergoing in vitro fertilization. Results Fourteen RCTs (2503 women in total) with six types of comparisons were finally included. The quality of concluding evidence was generally low or very low. Performance bias and outcome assessment bias was the main risk of bias of the included studies. Acupuncture combined with conscious sedation and analgesia (CSA) was associated with less intraoperative (SMD=−1.03; 95% CI: −1.71 to −0.36) and postoperative (SMD = −1.11; 95% CI: −1.51 to −0.71) pain compared to receive CSA alone in oocyte retrieval. Acupuncture with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) was more effective than using NSAIDs alone for postoperative analgesia (MD = −1.76; 95% CI: −2.08 to −1.44). Conclusion Acupuncture complex analgesic therapy is more effective than utilizing CSA or NSAIDs alone. Furthermore, there is no significant consensus on whether there is an analgesic effect of applying acupuncture alone during oocyte retrievals, which needs further research. The overall results should be interpreted with caution due to the high risk of bias/low-GRADE scores among these studies. Protocol and Registration PROSPERO registration number: CRD42020170095.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the efficacy and technical features of fully endoscopic microvascular decompression(MVD) in primary trigeminal neuralgia(PTN) via keyhole approach. Methods: The clinical data of 97 patients with PTN underwent fully endoscopic MVD via keyhole approach in the Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Capital Medical University from December 2014 to February 2019 was collected. During fully endoscopic MVD in PTN via keyhole approach, performer use natural clearance without grinding except developed rock bone crest or excessive retraction of the brain tissue, visually and panoramically observe and evaluate the CPA area, accurately identify the responsible vessels, to avoid the omission of responsible vessels or insufficient decompression. And the use of preplaced technology, bridging technology and submersible technology, ensure the efficacy of surgery and reduce the surgical side injuries.Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) pain score was used to evaluate the efficacy and identify the recurrence. The surgical efficacy was analyzed. Results: The offending vessels were identified under endoscope in 96 cases. Among them, arterial compression was found in 77 cases, venous compression in 6 cases, and both arterial and venous compression in 13 cases. About the pain outcomes, 87 cases had immediate and complete relief of pain, 5 cases had almost relief of pain, 4 cases had partial relief of pain, and still needed medication control, but the dose was lower than that before operation, and 1 case had no obvious relief of pain. About complications, there were 4 cases of temporary facial numbness, 1 case of temporary hearing loss, both of them recovered after symptomatic treatment. There was no cerebral infarction or hemorrhage, intracranial or incision infection. All cases were followed up for 3.0-38.0 months with a median period of(22.4±2.2) months. During the follow-up periods, postoperative recurrence occurred in 3 cases. Conclusion: Fully endoscopic MVD for PTN through keyhole approach, provides panoramic view to avoid omission of offending vessels and reduce complications, seemed to be a safe and effective surgical method.

Abstract
Angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), a regulatory angiogenesis protein and it has been found to be involved in the occurrence and progression of Alzheimer's disease. However, it was still to be addressed the distinctly role and the molecular mechanisms of Ang-1 affects Alzheimer's disease. Our data suggest that Ang-1 aggravated the accumulation of Aβ42 and cognitive decline in APP/PS1 mice. The upregulation of APPβ is essential for Aβ42 production in N2a cells overexpressing the mutational human APP gene (N2a/APP695 cells), while downregulation of PEN2 could reduce APP expression. Silencing of FOXA2 lead to inhibition of APP expression, as well as decrease of Aβ42 contents. In conclusion, Ang-1 has an accelerative effect on Alzheimer's disease by increasing the secretion of Aβ42 via FOXA2/PEN2/APP pathway.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the feasibility of dynamic-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and blood oxygen level-dependent MRI (BOLD-MRI) in assessing the hemodynamics and tumor aggressiveness during treatment. Methods: The colon cancer xenograft model was established in BALB/C nude mice with HCT116 cell line. Sixteen nude mice were randomly divided into treatment and control groups (aged 6 to 8 weeks, weighted 15 to 18 g, Certificate No. 11400700325797), which were treated with bevacizumab and saline by intraperitoneal injection on the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th and 13th day. DCE-MRI and BOLD-MRI were performed before and on the 3th, 6th, 9th, 12th, and 15th day after treatment. The vascular maturity and microenvironment hypoxia were confirmed by pathology. Results: The tumor volume of treatment group was significantly smaller than that of control group after 15 days ((712±43) vs (1 051±112) mm(3),P<0.01).The measurements of K(trans) were (0.135±0.005),(0.147±0.006),(0.175±0.009),(0.161±0.006), (0.140±0.005),(0.116±0.008)/min (F=81.386, P<0.01); K(ep) were (0.788±0.030),(0.804±0.036),(0.983±0.059), (1.105±0.091),(0.840±0.047),(0.786±0.041)/min(F=45.901,P<0.01);Ve were (0.652±0.006), (0.559±0.026), (0.466±0.016), (0.286±0.027), (0.363±0.020), (0.246±0.033) (F=384.290, P<0.01) and R2* values were (24.813±0.961), (24.675±1.070), (21.425±1.371), (17.850±0.885), (24.613±0.640), (27.013±0.734)/s (F=89.323, P<0.01) showed different trends with time in the treatment group, and the differences were statistically significant. The K(trans) values and tumor vessel maturity index (VMI) were higher than baseline values during 3-12 d after treatment. CD31 positive staining rate and VMI had the strongest correlations with K(trans) values (r=0.854 and 0.795), followed by AUC(180) (r=0.750 and 0.808), Ve (r=0.744 and 0.712) and K(ep) values (r=0.729 and 0.758), all P<0.05. R2* value positively correlated with the positive staining rate of HIF-1α and fibronectin (r=0.810 and 0.816), all P<0.05. Conclusion: DCE-MRI and BOLD-MRI are adequate to observe the tumor perfusion and hypoxia during anti-vascular treatment, and the R2* value can predict the tumor metastatic potential during the process of vascular normalization.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigated the effects of dihydromyricetin on cognitive and affective disorders induced by chronic social defeat stress and its possible mechanism in mice. METHODS C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into control group (Control), chronic social defeat stress group (CSDS) and chronic social defeat stress + DHM group (CSDS+DHM) (14 mice in each group). The mice received chronic social defeat stress and were injected with DHM or vehicle intraperitoneally. A part of mice were subjected to (10 mice of each group) novel object recognition test (NOR), Y maze test, open field test (OFT), social interaction test (SIT), forced swimming test (FST) and tail suspension test (TST). The other mice (4 mice of each group) were decapitated and the expression levels of SIRT1 in hippocampus were detected by Western blot. RESULTS Compared with the control group, the learning and memory of the CSDS group were reduced significantly, the anxiety level was increased significantly, the immobility time in TST and FST was increased significantly, and the SIRT1 protein level in hippocampus was reduced significantly (P< 0.05 or P< 0.01); Compared with the CSDS group, the learning and memory of the CSDS + DHM group were improved significantly, the anxiety level of the mice was reduced significantly, and the immobility time in TST and FST was reduced significantly. The protein level of SIRT1 in hippocampus was increased significantly (P< 0.05 or P< 0.01). CONCLUSION DHM ameliorates the cognitive impairment, anxiety like behavior and depression like behavior of mice induced by CSDS and up-regulates the expression of SIRT1 protein.

Abstract
Objective: To study the operative method, special technique and curative effect of complete neuroendoscopic microvascular decompression(MVD) related to vertebrobasilar artery compression. Methods: Thirteen patients with functional cranial nerve disease caused by vertebrobasilar artery as direct or indirect responsible vessel accepted complete endoscopic MVD, including 11 patients with hemifacial spasm and 2 patients with trigeminal neuralgia. The procedure and curative effect of endoscopic surgery were analyzed retrospectively. Results: All procedures of complete neuroendoscopic MVD were successfully completed.Intraoperative observation by endoscope showed that 6 cases were oppressed directly by vertebral artery, 2 cases were oppressed directly by basilar artery, 5 cases were combined oppressed by displaced basilar artery and other vessels (1 case was superior cerebellar artery and 4 cases were anterior inferior cerebellar artery). During the operation, Teflon sheets was placed directly into the compression point in 2 cases, the "Pre-placed" technique was used to place Teflon sheets in 7 cases, and the "Set up bridge" technique was used to place Teflon sheets in 4 cases. Follow-up for 8-38 months,the symptoms disappeared completely in 12 cases and improved in 1 case. No deaths and severe complications occurred, such as postoperative bleeding, cerebellar infarction and intracranial infection. Conclusion: MVD related to vertebrobasilar artery compression can be performed by complete neuroendoscopic technique, which can achieve sufficient decompression effect and curative effect.Flexible use of the special technology of placing Teflon sheets by single-hand under endoscope, such as the "Pre-placed" and "Set up bridge" technique, is an important technical guarantee for the successful completion of endoscopic MVD.

Abstract
Cerebral ventricular infection (CVI) is one of the most dangerous complications in neurosurgery because of its high mortality and disability rates. Few studies have examined the application of neuroendoscopic surgical techniques (NESTs) to assess and treat CVI. This multicenter, retrospective study was conducted using clinical data of 32 patients with CVI who were assessed and treated by NESTs in China. The patients included 20 men and 12 women with a mean age of 42.97 years. NESTs were used to obliterate intraventricular debris and pus, fenestrate or incise the intraventricular compartment and reconstruct cerebrospinal fluid circulation, and remove artificial material. Intraventricular irrigation with antibiotic saline was applied after neuroendoscopic surgery (NES). Secondary hydrocephalus was treated by endoscopic third ventriculostomy or a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Neuroendoscopic findings of CVI were used to classify patients into Grade I (n = 3), Grade II (n = 13), Grade III (n = 10), and Grade IV (n = 6) CVI. The three patients with grade I CVI underwent one NES, the 23 patients with grade II/III CVI underwent two NESs, and patients with grade IV CVI underwent two (n = 3) or three (n = 3) NESs. The imaging features and grades of neuroendoscopy results were positively related to the number of neurosurgical endoscopic procedures. Two patients died of multiple organ failure and the other 30 patients fully recovered. Among the 26 patients with secondary hydrocephalus, 18 received ventriculoperitoneal shunt and 8 underwent endoscopic third ventriculostomy. There were no recurrences of CVI during the 6- to 76-month follow-up after NES. Application of NESTs is an innovative method to assess and treat CVI, and its neuroendoscopic classification provides an objective, comprehensive assessment of CVI. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of soft neuroendoscopic techniques in the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 201 cases of CSDH diagnosed and treated at Beijing Shijitan Hospital (CMU) from January 2006 to December 2017 was conducted. From January 2006 to December 2010, 126 cases of CSDH were treated with skull drilling and drainage (non-endoscopic group). From January 2011 to December 2017, 75 cases of CSDH were treated with soft neuroendoscopy (endoscopic group). The operation time of the non-endoscopic and endoscopic groups, the hematoma clearance rate on the first day after surgery, the time of the drainage tube, the length of hospital stay, the incidence of complications, mortality and recurrence rate were compared. Results: There were no deaths in both groups. The average operation time of the non-endoscopic group was 43 min, compared with the average operation time of the endoscopy group of 50 min, there was no significant difference (P>0.05). The average hematoma clearance rate on the first day after surgery in the endoscopy group (98.2%) was significantly higher than that in non-endoscopic group (87.3%) (P<0.01). The average time of drainage tube in the endoscopy group (23 h) was significantly shorter than that in the non-endoscopic group (50 h) (P<0.01). On the first postoperative day, the proportion of patients with mRS≤3 in the endoscopic group was significantly higher than that in the non-endoscopic group (P<0.01). At the time of discharge, the proportion of patients with mRS≤3 in the endoscopy group was also significantly higher than that in the non-endoscopic group, P<0.05. There was no significant difference in the average hospital stay between endoscopy group (7 d) and non-endoscopic group (8 d) (P>0.05). The postoperative complication rate in the endoscopy group was significantly lower than that in the non-endoscopic group (P<0.01). During 0.5-8 years of follow-up, the recurrence rate of CSDH in the endoscopic group (5.33%) was significantly lower than that in the non-endoscopic group (15.07%) (P<0.01). Conclusion: The application of visualization features of soft neuroendoscopy in the treatment of CSDH can significantly improve hematoma clearance, shorten the time of drainage tube, reduce postoperative complications and recurrence rate, and improve surgical outcomes.

Abstract
Glutamate transporter GLT1 mediates glutamate uptake, and maintains glutamate homeostasis in the synaptic cleft. Previous studies suggest that blockade of glutamate uptake affects synaptic transmission and plasticity. However, the effect of GLT1 blockade on learning and memory still receives little attention. In the present study, we examined the effect of unilateral intracerebroventricular injection of dihydrokainic acid (DHK), a GLT-1 inhibitor, on novel object recognition (NOR) memory performance. The NOR task involved three sessions including habituation, sampling and test. In experiment 1, DHK injection 0.5 h pre-sampling impaired short-term NOR memory performance. In experiment 2, DHK injection 0.5 h pre-sampling impaired long-term NOR memory acquisition. In experiment 3, DHK injection immediately but not 6 h post-sampling impaired long-term NOR memory consolidation. In experiment 4, DHK injection 0.5 h pre-test impaired long-term NOR memory retrieval. Furthermore, DHK-induced memory performance impairment was not due to its effects on nonspecific responses such as locomotor activity and exploratory behavior. The current findings further extend previous studies on the effects of disruption of glutamate homeostasis on learning and memory.

Abstract
Localization of apelin and its receptor APJ in limbic structures such as the hippocampus suggests potential involvement of apelin/APJ signaling in stress-related emotional responses. We have recently reported that apelin-13 exerts antidepressant-like actions in acute stressed rats, and that the hippocampus is a critical brain region mediating its actions. However, the neural mechanism underling antidepressant-like actions of apelin-13 is still largely unknown. The aim of the present study is to determine whether apelin-13 ameliorates chronic water-immersion restraint stress (CWIRS)-induced depression-like phenotypes and its neural mechanism in rats. Here, we report that CWIRS exposure leaded to upregulation of apelin/APJ signaling in the hippocampus. Apelin-13 ameliorated CWIRS-induced depression-like phenotypes including hedonic-like deficit and behavioral despairs. Moreover, apelin-13 ameliorated hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis hyperactivity, and hippocampal BDNF expression deficit and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) nucleus translocation hypoactivity in chronic stressed rats. Finally, apelin-13-mediated effects were blocked by the selective TrkB receptor antagonist ANA-12. These results suggest that apelin-13 upregulates BDNF against chronic stress-induced depression-like phenotypes by ameliorating HPA axis and hippocampal GR dysfunctions.

Abstract
The peptide apelin and its receptor APJ are found to express in multiple brain regions, especially in the regions such as the hippocampus and hypothalamus that play important roles in stress and depression. The distribution of apelin and APJ suggests that the apelinergic signaling may be a key mediator in the development of stress-related depressive behavior. We recently demonstrated that intracerebroventricular (i.c.v) injection of apelin-13 exerts an antidepressant-like activity in the rat forced swimming test (FST). However, the possible brain region mediating apelin-13's antidepressant-like activity remains unclear. In the present study, we determined whether the hippocampus and hypothalamus are the possible regions mediating antidepressant-like activity of apelin-13. We found that forced swimming exposure upregulated apelin and APJ protein expression levels in the hippocampus but not hypothalamus in rats. Further, intrahippocampal injection of apelin-13 exerted an antidepressant-like activity (as indicated by a decreased immobility behavior), and intrahippocampal infusion of APJ receptor antagonist F13A blocked the antidepressant-like activity produced by i.c.v injection of apelin-13 in the FST. Moreover, intrahypothalamic injection of apelin-13 did not affect the immobility behavior in the FST. These findings suggest that the hippocampus, but not hypothalamus, is a critical site mediating antidepressant-like activity of apelin-13 in rats.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of bedside echocardiography in diagnosis and risk assessment of in-hospital death of patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection. Methods: The clinical data of 229 patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection diagnosed by CT angiography in Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University between January 2009 and January 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into survival group(191 cases)and non-survival group(38 cases)according to presence or absence of in-hospital death. The bedside echocardiography features were analyzed, and influence factors of in-hospital death were determined by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: (1) Compared with the survival group, the non-survival group had lower surgery rate (60.52%(23/38) vs. 85.34%(163/191), P<0.01). Age, gender and Debakey classification were similar between survival group and death group (all P>0.05). (2) The bedside echocardiography results showed that prevalence of aortic valve involvement(65.79%(25/38) vs.34.03%(65/191), P<0.01) and severe aortic regurgitation (44.74%(17/38) vs. 14.14%(27/191), P<0.01) were significantly higher in non-survival group than in survival group. The non-survival group had larger aortic root diameter than the survival group ((55.5±6.4)mm vs. (42.3±7.8)mm, P<0.01). There were no significant differences in pericardial effusion, expansion of aortic sinus, and left ventricular ejection fraction between survival group and non-survival group (all P>0.05). (3) The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that aortic valve involvement(OR=3.275, 95%CI 1.290-8.313, P<0.05), aortic root diameter(OR=1.202, 95%CI 1.134-1.275, P<0.01), and surgery (OR=0.224, 95%CI 0.079-0.629, P<0.01) were independent risk factors for in-hospital death in patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection. Conclusions: Bedside echocardiography has significant diagnostic value for Stanford type A aortic dissection. Aortic valve involvement, enlargement of aortic root diameter and without surgery are independent risk factors for patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the imaging manifestations of multi-slice spiral CT angiography (CTA) and relationship with in-hospital death in patients with aortic dissection (AD). Methods: The clinical data of 429 patients with AD who underwent CTA in Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University between January 2009 and January 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. AD patients were divided into 2 groups, including operation group who underwent surgery or interventional therapy (370 cases) and non-operation group who underwent medical conservative treatment(59 cases). The multi-slice spiral CTA imaging features of AD were analyzed, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the relationship between imaging manifestations and in-hospital death in AD patients. Results: There were 12 cases (3.24%) of in-hospital death in operation group, and 28 cases (47.46%) of in-hospital death in non-operation group(P<0.001). AD involved different vascular branches. Multi-slice spiral CTA can clearly show the dissection of true and false lumen, and intimal tear was detected in 363 (84.62%) cases, outer wall calcification was revealed in 63 (14.69%) cases, and thrombus formation was present in 227 (52.91%) cases. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the number of branch vessels involved (OR=1.374, 95%CI 1.081-1.745, P=0.009) and tearing false lumen range(OR=2.059, 95%CI 1.252-3.385, P=0.004) were independent risk factors of in-hospital death in AD patients, and the number of branch vessels involved (OR=1.600, 95%CI 1.062-2.411, P=0.025) was independent risk factor of in-hospital death in the operation group, while the tearing false lumen range (OR=2.315, 95%CI 1.019-5.262, P=0.045) was independent risk factor of in-hospital death of non-operation group. Conclusions: Multi-slice spiral CTA can clearly show the entire AD, true and false lumen, intimal tear, wall calcification and thrombosis of AD patients. The number of branch vessels involved and tearing false lumen range are the independent risk factors of in-hospital death in AD patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To preliminarily explore the application value of two-dimensional image technology and three-dimensional visualization technology in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated by associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(ALPPS). METHODS Clinical data of nineteen HCC patients treated by ALPPS were retrospectively analyzed in Sun-Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University from August 2013 to May 2015.Preoperative assessment, surgical planning and intraoperative guidance were assisted by traditional two-dimensional imaging technology(group 2D) in 15 cases, and the rest 4 cases were assisted by three-dimensional visualization technology(group 3D). RESULTS Three-dimensional visualization technology offered precise, visual, and distinct images, calculated the liver volume precisely, achieved virtual simulation operations, and assisted the formulation of intraoperative decisions.The mean operation time of the first stage were(331.3±61.7)minutes and (261.3±21.4)minutes in group 2D and group 3D, and the mean volume of intraoperative bleedings were (360.7±51.9)ml and (300.0±40.8)ml, respectively.The mean operation time of the second stage were (199.3±41.0)minutes and (170.0±29.4)minutes in group 2D and group 3D, and the mean volume of intraoperative bleedings were (285.3±132.6)ml and (257.5±99.5)ml, respectively.The mean interval time between two stages of operations were (15.3±6.5)d and (13.8±5.1)d in group 2D and group 3D, and the mean hospital stays were (39.3±5.8)d and (31.5±7.5)d, respectively.There were 4 cases and 12 cases who accepted the second stage operation in group 2D and group 3D respectively.There were 7 cases(4 with grade A, 2 with grade B, 1 with grade C) and 2 cases(1 with grade A, 1 with grade B) with post-hepatectomy liver failure and 9 cases(4 with grade Ⅰ, 2 with grade Ⅱ, 1 with grade Ⅲ, 2 with grade Ⅳ) and 3 cases (1 with grade Ⅰ, 1 with grade Ⅱ, 1 with grade Ⅲ)with postoperative complications in group 2D and group 3D respectively.There were 2 cases and 0 case died after operation in group 2D and group 3D respectively.There were 3 cases and 1 case who were recurrent and 4 cases and 1 case died 6 months after surgery in group 2D and group 3D respectively. CONCLUSION Three-dimensional visualization technology assisted the formulation of preoperative assessments and surgical planning individually and precisely, which displayed potential application value in HCC treated by ALPPS.

Abstract
Early studies with first-generation poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors have already indicated some therapeutic potential for sulfur mustard (SM) injuries. The available novel and more potential PARP inhibitors, which are undergoing clinical trials as drugs for cancer treatment, bring it back to the centre of interest. However, the role of PARP-1 in SM-induced injury is not fully understood. In this study, we selected a high potent specific PARP inhibitor ABT-888 as an example to investigate the effect of PARP inhibitor in SM injury. The results showed that in both the mouse ear vesicant model (MEVM) and HaCaT cell model, PARP inhibitor ABT-888 can reduce cell damage induced by severe SM injury. ABT-888 significantly reduced SM induced edema and epidermal necrosis in MEVM. In the HaCaT cell model, ABT-888 can reduce SM-induced NAD(+)/ATP depletion and apoptosis/necrosis. Then, we studied the mechanism of PARP-1 in SM injury by knockdown of PARP-1 in HaCaT cells. Knockdown of PARP-1 protected cell viability and downregulated the apoptosis checkpoints, including p-JNK, p-p53, Caspase 9, Caspase 8, c-PARP and Caspase 3 following SM-induced injury. Furthermore, the activation of AKT can inhibit autophagy via the regulation of mTOR. Our results showed that SM exposure could significantly inhibit the activation of Akt/mTOR pathway. Knockdown of PARP-1 reversed the SM-induced suppression of the Akt/mTOR pathway. In summary, the results of our study indicated that the protective effects of downregulation of PARP-1 in SM injury may be due to the regulation of apoptosis, necrosis, energy crisis and autophagy. However, it should be noticed that PARP inhibitor ABT-888 further enhanced the phosphorylation of H2AX (S139) after SM exposure, which indicated that we should be very careful in the application of PARP inhibitors in SM injury treatment because of the enhancement of DNA damage.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the impact of the "4 x 20" Lushan Earthquake on the risk of schistosomiasis transmission in Lushan and Tianquan counties, so as to provide the evidence for formulating appropriate measures for schistosomiasis prevention and control. METHODS Based on a comprehensive literature review, an analysis of schistosomiasis monitoring data in the earthquake affected counties, and a field investigation, a rapid assessment on the impact of the earthquake on schistosomiasis was conducted. RESULTS Lushan and Tianquan counties were two endemic areas of schistosomiasis with high transmission level in history, especially Lushan County where Oncomelania snail distribution/density was the highest in Sichuan Province. After the earthquake, the streams and damaged ditches were blocked up, potentially leading to the spread of Oncomelania snails, and the damaged sanitary facilities may also lead to the release of excrement, contaminating the environment where snails resided. Meanwhile, the people who were relocated due to the earthquake may have higher exposures to contaminated environment. In addition, increasing population mobility (e.g. relief workers) also had the potential to bring infection sources in the earthquake affected areas. Further, animals, which may serve as reservoirs for the parasite such as homeless dogs, may also add the complexity of local schistosomiasis transmission. CONCLUSIONS The epidemic risk of schistosomiasis in Lushan and Tianquan counties is high. To prevent the outbreak and epidemic of schistosomiasis, the victim settlements should be established appropriately and the excrement should be managed carefully. Meanwhile, the snail control should be carried out in the high-risk environments. The health education, monitoring, patient treatments and expanded chemotherapy should be carried out and strengthened.

Abstract
A series of bufalin 3-nitrogen-containing-ester derivatives (2-6) were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their proliferation inhibition activities against human cervical epithelial adenocarcinoma (HeLa) and non-small-cell lung cancer (A549) cell lines. The structure-activity relationships (SARs) of this new series were described in this paper. Cytotoxicity data revealed that C3 moiety had important influence on cytotoxic activity. On two cell lines, the bufalin-3-piperidinyl-4-carboxylate compound 2 (IC50 values on HeLa and A549 cell lines were 0.76 nM and 0.34 nM, respectively) displayed a significant cytotoxic potency compared to the parent compound bufalin.

Abstract
Introduction Naturally occurring CD4+CD25+ regulatory T (Treg) cells are central to the maintenance of peripheral tolerance. Impaired activity and/or a lower frequency of these cells lead to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Manipulating the number or activity of Treg cells is to be a promising strategy in treating it and other autoimmune diseases. We have examined the effects of Y27, a novel derivative of 4-hydroxyquinoline-3-formamide, on SLE-like symptoms in MRL/lpr autoimmune mice and BDF1 hybrid mice. Whether the beneficial effect of Y27 involves modulation of CD4+CD25+ Treg cells has also been investigated. Methods Female MRL/lpr mice that spontaneously develop lupus were treated orally by gavage with Y27 for 10 weeks, starting at 10 weeks of age. BDF1 mice developed a chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) by two weekly intravenous injections of parental female DBA/2 splenic lymphocytes, characterized by immunocomplex-mediated glomerulonephritis resembling SLE. Y27 was administered to chronic GVHD mice for 12 weeks. Nephritic symptoms were monitored and the percentage of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Treg peripheral blood leukocyte was detected with mouse regulatory T cell staining kit by flowcytometry. Purified CD4+CD25+ Tregs were assessed for immune suppressive activity using the mixed lymphocyte reaction. Results The life-span of MRL/lpr mice treated with Y27 for 10 weeks was significantly prolonged, proteinuria and renal lesion severity were ameliorated, and blood urea nitrogen, triglyceride and serum anti-double-stranded DNA antibodies were decreased. Similar results were found in chronic GVHD mice. Administration of Y27 had little impact on percentage of the peripheral blood lymphocyte CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells in both groups of mice. In contrast, the suppressive capacity of CD4+CD25+ Treg cells in splenocytes was markedly augmented in Y27-treated mice ex vivo. Conclusions Experimental evidence of the protect effects of Y27 against autoimmune nephritis has been shown. The mechanism may involve enhancement of the suppressive capacity of CD4+CD25+ Treg cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the pre-operative examination and operative approach for hydrocephalus associated with cerebellar tonsillar hernia. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted for 24 patients of hydrocephalus associated with cerebellar tonsillar hernia. All subjects received both pre-operative and post-operative Cine MRI examinations to detect the velocity and quantity of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) at the important sites in ventricular system. A majority of cases had endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) while others underwent both ETV and endoscopic posterior cranial fossa decompression. RESULTS The pre-operative CSF hydrodynamics of all cases were abnormal at foramen magnum. A post-operative CSF flow through stoma might be detected by Cine MRI in all cases. The clinical symptoms improved to different extents in 21 cases while another two cases showed no improvement. Later these two patients underwent endoscopic posterior cranial fossa decompression. Cerebellar tonsillar hernia improved in 14 cases. CONCLUSION Cine MRI can detect the CSF hydrodynamics at craniocervical junction so as to help a surgeon determine the time and the plan of operation. Most cases of hydrocephalus associated with cerebral tonsillar hernia are of obstructive hydrocephalus. The efficacy of ETV for hydrocephalus has been confirmed. Also ETV has a therapeutic effect for cerebellar tonsillar hernia and syringomyelia.

Abstract
Six new prenylated isoflavanones named sophoronols A-F (1-6), together with eight phenolic constituents, were isolated from the roots of Sophora mollis. Their structures and stereochemistry were established by 1D and 2D NMR techniques, especially HMBC and NOESY as well as CD results. Componds 3 and 5 exhibited moderate anitplasmodial activity against the CQS D10 strain of Plasmodium falciparum, with IC(50) values of 12.9 and 12.8 microM, respectively.

Abstract
The fabrication process, compressive strength and biocompatibility of porous beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) ceramic scaffolds reinforced with 45P(2)O(5)-22CaO-25Na(2)O-8MgO bioglass (beta-TCP/BG) were investigated for their suitability as bone engineering materials. Porous beta-TCP/BG scaffolds with macropore sizes of 200-500 muicrom were prepared by coating porous polyurethane template with beta-TCP/BG slurry. The beta-TCP/BG scaffolds showed interconnected porous structures and exhibited enhanced mechanical properties to those pure beta-TCP scaffolds. In order to assess the effects of chemical composition of this bioglass on the behavior of osteoblasts cultured in vitro, porous scaffolds were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 2 weeks, and original specimens (without soaked in SBF) seeded with MC3T3-E1 were cultured for the same period. The ability of inducing apatite crystals in simulated body fluid and the attachment of osteoblasts were examined. Results suggest that apatite agglomerates are formed on the surface of the beta-TCP/BG scaffolds and its Ca/P molar ratio is approximately 1.42. Controlling the crystallization from the beta-TCP/BG matrix could influence the releasing speed of inorganic ions and further adjust the microenvironment of the solution around the beta-TCP/BG, which could improve the interaction between osteoblasts and the scaffolds.

Abstract
Roquinimex is an immunomodulator that can effectively inhibit the development of several autoimmune diseases in animal models, but the mechanism is still unknown. In this study, we investigated the effect of roquinimex on chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in mice, a well-established model for human systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Oral administration of roquinimex significantly suppressed the development of proteinuria and ameliorated nephritis symptoms in chronic GVHD mice. In addition, renal histopathology and immunohistochemistry studies revealed reduced glomerulonephritis and decreased IgG deposition in chronic GVHD mice treated with roquinimex. Chronic GVHD is characterized by a predominance of Th2 cytokines, and proinflammatory cytokines that also play an important role in the pathology of tissue damage. Therefore, we focused on the effect of roquinimex on cytokine production. Chronic GVHD mouse splenocytes exhibited severely reduced interferon (IFN)-gamma production in response to Concanavalin (Con A) stimulation and an overt Th2 skewness. Roquinimex treatment, however, induced IFN-gamma production and restored the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance, although only a minimal effect of roquinimex on interleukin (IL)-4 secretion was observed. The production of the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta by peritoneal macrophages from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated GVHD mice was significantly inhibited by roquinimex treatment. These data suggested that the beneficial effect of roquinimex on lupus might, at least in part, result from a restoration of Th1/Th2 cytokine balance and inhibition of inflammatory cytokine production.

Abstract
Colloidal ZnO particles with narrow size distribution were prepared via a sol-gel process by base-catalyzed hydrolysis of zinc acetate. The morphology of ordered arrays of the particles was recorded by SEM. SEM also reveals that these uniform particles were composed of tiny ZnO subunits (singlets) sized of several nanometers. The size of the singlets, which is confirmed by X-ray diffraction and UV-vis absorption spectra, increases as the aging time is prolonged. The size-selective formation of colloids by aggregation of nanosized subunits is proposed to consist of two-stage growth by nucleation of nanosized crystalline primary particles and their subsequent aggregation into polycrystalline secondary colloids. The aggregates are all spherical because the internal rearrangement processes are fast enough. The ZnO colloids, i.e., the aggregates, tend to self-assemble into well-ordered hexagonal close-packed structures. Room-temperature photoluminescence was characterized for green and aged ZnO.

Abstract
A series of novel quinoline-3-carboxamide derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their immunomodulatory activity. The compounds were tested in vitro for effects on spleen lymphocyte proliferation and TNF-alpha production by macrophage. Three compounds showed immunomodulatory profiles similar to and more potent than those of linomide and FR137316 and were selected for further pharmacological studies in vivo.

Abstract
Luminescence properties of nanosized zinc oxide (ZnO) colloids depend greatly on their surface properties, which are in turn largely determined by the method of preparation. ZnO nanoparticles in the size range from 3 to 9 nm were prepared by addition of tetramethylammonium hydroxide ((CH3)4NOH) to an ethanolic zinc acetate solution. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicates nanocrystalline ZnO membranes with polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure. The ZnO membranes have a strong visible-emission intensity and the intensity depends upon hydrolysis time. The infrared spectra imply a variety of forms of zinc acetate complexes present on the surface of ZnO particles. The effect of the ZnO membrane surface properties on photoluminescence is discussed.

Abstract
3 cases of seronegative synovitis syndrome were reported. Two elderly women and one man presented with symmetrical polysynovitis of acute onset involving most of their appendicular joints and flexor digitorum tendons associated with pitting edema of the dorsum of both hands and both feet. Rheumatoid factor was absent from serum samples in all and no radiologically evident erosions developed. All the three patients had a benign course and the disease resolved completely within 2-18 months after the onset. None had deformities, erosions and/or relapse after being followed for 22-34 months. Literatures on this syndrome were reviewed.

Four compounds isolated from the rhizomes of Drynaria propinqua collected in Sichuan have been identified. One of them was a new natural product, namely propinqualin, whose structure was established as (-)-epiafzelechin-3-O-beta-D-allopyranoside. The other three were 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl caffeic acid, beta-sitosterol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside and sucrose.

Abstract
The arrhythmias induced by chloroform-epinephine, BaCl2, and aconitine were prevented and antagonized by Ophiopogon total saponins (OTS) which were extracted from the root of Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb) Ker-Gawl. The incidence of ventricular arrhythmia produced by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery was effectively decreased without any changes in the hemodynamic indices of dogs. The electrophysiological effects of OTS in vivo and in vitro were studied by means of contact electrode and intracellular microelectrode techniques. The results showed that OTS shortened APD10, APD50, APD90; decreased APA and Vmax of both monophasic and transmembrane action potentials. OTS also increased the ERP/APD ratio and prevented or abolished the arrhythmikinesis provoked by ouabain and aconitine. The anti-arrhythmic properties of OTS lead us to draw an inference that the anti-arrhythmic mechanism may be related to the blocking of sodium and calcium channels.

Abstract
A commercial model of the analytical high-speed counter-current chromatography instrument was used for separation of flavonoids from a crude ethanol extract of dried fruits of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides). Using a two-phase solvent system of chloroform-methanol-water (4:3:2), a five-fold increase in flow-rate of the mobile phase from 60 to 300 ml/h resulted in a rapid separation of five components in less than 15 min without significant loss in peak resolution. Major flavonoid component, isorhamnetin, was identified in its pure state by mass spectrometric analysis.

Abstract
This paper presents and discusses the methodology and results of studies on respiratory sensation by using a fuzzy set category judgement model and applying the concept of just noticeable difference (JND) step and equivalent sensation. A new kind of category scale, the multistage evaluation scale (MES), based on a fuzzy set category judgement model for quantifying respiratory sensory magnitude has been put forward and verified in 37 subjects. The perceived magnitude of added resistance estimated using MES could reflect properly the difference in sensory perception caused by added loads with equal intensity but applied to different phases of the breathing cycle. In addition, the psychophysical function obtained conforms to the Stevens' power law. On the contrary, the classical category scale does not possess some of these attributes. In 9 subjects, we determined that the sensory continuum corresponding to either inspiratory or expiratory added resistive load, ranging 10-500 mm H2O.1(-1).s, consisted of 6 or 7 JND steps. The sensory magnitude corresponding to each step was estimated by the MES. Relating the results of JND step measurements with that of magnitude estimation using MES, we could elucidate systematically the relationship between perceived magnitude and discrimination for respiratory sensation. In 13 subjects, the equivalent respiratory resistive load sensation contours of 2, 3 and 4 JND step above basal level, respectively, were obtained through experimentation and by quadratic polynomial approximation of experimental data. The results suggest that as regards the human tolerance to various added resistive loads the combined resistive load is the most tolerable among the three; the expiratory, the least. The equivalent sensation contour can be used to predict the changes in respiratory sensation determined by both the intensity of the total added load and the ratio of inspiratory versus expiratory load. In brief, we have proposed a new way to elucidate the physiological and psychophysical effects of various added resistive loads.
