Abstract
One of the worst long-term health issues of the past few decades is Alzheimer's disease (AD). Unfortunately, there are currently insufficient choices for treating and caring for AD, which makes it a popular subject for drug development research. Studies on the development of drugs for AD have primarily concentrated on the use of multitarget directed ligands. Following this strategy, we designed new ChE inhibitors with additional antioxidant and metal chelator effects. In this research, eight novel N'-(quinolin-4-ylmethylene)propanehydrazide derivatives were synthesized and characterized. We then evaluated the inhibition potency of all the final compounds for cholinesterase enzymes. Among them, 4e (IC50 acetylcholinesterase [AChE] = 0.69 µM and butyrylcholinesterase [BChE]= 26.00 µM) and 4h (IC50's AChE= 7.04 µM and BChE= 16.06 µM) were found to be the most potent AChE and BChE inhibitors, respectively.

Abstract
Ferrocene-coupled chitosan (CS-Fc) support polymer was synthesized for the immobilization of double enzymes and single enzymes. The immobilization study was carried out after a detailed characterization study. The binding of pepsin and lipase enzymes to the polymer was supported by the shift of peaks in the FTIR spectra of free enzymes. The particle sizes of chitosan (CS) and CS-Fc were evaluated using zeta potential measurement. The optimum conditions of the enzymes in the double enzyme system did not affect each other and each showed their activity. In the presence of double enzyme immobilization, the optimum pH remained the same with free enzyme, while the optimum temperature increased differently with an increase of 10 °C. Vmax values were 0.0020 and 0.0038 for free pepsin and lipase enzyme, respectively. However, due to double enzyme immobilization, the Vmax value increased 1.75 fold for pepsin and 3.94 fold for lipase enzyme. In the double enzyme immobilization, the substrate affinity of pepsin increased by 0.4-fold, while the substrate affinity of lipase increased by about 0.3-fold. In the 5th reuse of pepsin and lipase enzymes in the presence of double enzymes (Cs-Fc-Pep) + (Cs-Fc-Lip), it was determined as 18.21% for pepsin enzyme and 90.81% for lipase enzyme.

Abstract
Periodontitis progression is associated with a host response in which anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory cytokine networks play a key role. Smoking is involved in the production of various mediators. The study aims to evaluate the levels of IL-17 and IL-35 in saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), to investigate the effects of smoking on these cytokines in smoker and non-smoker periodontitis patients. 19 smokers with periodontitis, 20 non-smokers with periodontitis, and 18 periodontally healthy subjects were included in the study. Periodontal clinical indexes were recorded and the levels of IL-17 and IL-35 in saliva and GCF were analyzed. No significant difference was detected among the groups in terms of salivary IL-17 and IL-35 levels. GCF IL-17 and IL-35 concentration levels in the non-smoker periodontitis group were significantly lower than the others (p < 0.05). Total levels of GCF IL-17 were significantly higher in both periodontitis groups than the control group; and total levels of GCF IL-35 were significantly higher in non-smoker periodontitis group than the others (p < 0.05). A positive correlation was detected between the salivary IL-17 and IL-35 levels (r = 0.884), GCF IL-17 and IL-35 concentrations (r = 0.854), and total GCF IL-17 and IL-35 (r = 0.973) levels (p < 0.01). The present study revealed a positive correlation between the IL-35 and IL-17 levels both in saliva and GCF. IL-17 and IL-35 can be considered as one of the cytokines that play a role in periodontal health and periodontitis; and smoking may be among the factors that affect the levels of these cytokines in GCF and saliva.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although small for gestational age (SGA) does not cause adverse perinatal outcomes, the placental pathology for fetal growth restricted (FGR) and SGA fetuses is still unknown. The aim of this study is to evaluate the differences between placentas of early onset FGR, late onset FGR, SGA, and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) pregnancies in the manner of microvasculature and expression of anti-angiogenic PEDF factor and CD68. METHODS The study included four groups (early onset FGR, late onset FGR, SGA and AGA). Placental samples were obtained just after labor in all of the groups. Degenerative criteria were investigated with Hematoxylin-eosin staining. Immunohistochemical evaluation with H score and m RNA levels of Cluster of differentiation 68 (CD68) and pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF) were performed for each group. RESULTS The highest levels of degeneration were detected in the early onset FGR group. In means of degeneration SGA placentas were found to be worse than the AGA placentas. The intensity of PEDF and CD68 were significant in early FGR, the late FGR and SGA groups compared to the AGA group (p < 0.001). The mRNA level results of the PEDF and CD68 were also parallel to the immunostaining results. CONCLUSION Although SGA fetuses are considered constitutionally small, the SGA placentas also demonstrated signs of degeneration similar to the FGR placentas. These degenerative signs were not seen among the AGA placentas.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Medication overuse headache (MOH) was recently shown to be associated with leaky gut in rodents. We aimed to investigate whether chronic migraine (CM) patients with MOH have elevated lipopolysaccharide levels and inflammatory molecules in blood circulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included women participants (40 CM patients with NSAID overuse headache, 35 episodic migraine (EM) patients, and 20 healthy non-headache sufferers). Migraine duration, monthly migraine headache days, MigSCog, HADS-D, HADS-A, and HIT-6 scores were recorded. Serum samples were collected to measure circulating LPS, LPS binding protein (LBP), tight junction protein occludin, adherens junction protein vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin), CGRP, HMGB1, HIF-1α, IL-6, and IL-17 levels. RESULTS Serum LPS, VE-Cadherin, CGRP, HIF-1α, and IL-6 levels were significantly higher in the CM + MOH group compared to the EM group and healthy controls while serum LBP and HMGB1 were higher in the CM + MOH group compared to healthy controls. IL-17 and occludin levels were comparable between the three groups. Serum HMGB1 levels in EM patients were higher compared to the control group. Mig-SCog and HIT-6 scores were higher in the CM + MOH group compared to EM patients. HADS-A and HADS-D scores were significantly higher in the CM + MOH group compared to EM patients and healthy controls, and they were also higher in EM patients compared to healthy subjects. LPS levels were correlated with VE-cadherin and occludin levels. The number of monthly migraine headache days was positively correlated with serum LPS, HIF-1α, VE-cadherin, and IL-6 levels, HADS-A, HADS-D, HIT-6, and MigSCog scores. CONCLUSION We have evidence for the first time that CM + MOH is associated with elevated serum LPS and LBP levels suggestive of LPS leak into the systemic circulation. Higher levels of nociceptive and/or pro-inflammatory molecules such as HMGB1, HIF-1α, IL-6, and CGRP may play a role in trigeminal sensitization and neurobiology of MOH. Intestinal hyperpermeability and consequent inflammatory response should be considered as a potential contributory factor in patients with MOH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipid metabolism is considerably complex and there can be many critical steps in atherogenesis. The association between lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) activity and coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been elucidated in detail. We aimed to evaluate the association between LAL activity with the presence and severity of CAD in patients who are seen in daily clinical practice. METHODS Patients who underwent coronary angiography were divided into groups according to the angiography results. Syntax scores and Gensini scores were calculated. The LAL activity was measured from dried blood spots. RESULTS Median LAL activity values were similar in all study groups (normal coronary arteries: 0.40 nmol/punch/h; non-obstructive CAD: 0.44 nmol/punch/h; obstructive chronic CAD: 0.40 nmol/punch/h; obstructive acute coronary syndrome: 0.48 nmol/punch/h) and there was no correlation between coronary atherosclerotic burden and LAL activity (correlation coefficients Syntax score and LAL: -0.032; Gensini score and LAL: -0.030). In addition, no relationship between serum lipid levels and LAL activity was detected. CONCLUSION The presence of CAD and its severity is not associated with the LAL activity in patients encountered in daily clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Determination of resection margins is very important in anatomical lung resections for both oncologic outcomes and postoperative complications. Absence of intersegmental plans naturally in segmentectomy surgeries and presence of incomplete fissure variationally in pulmonary lobectomy procedures constitute a challenge for surgeons in determining resection margins. Thoracic surgeons can prefer various techniques such as inflation deflation method, indocyanine green imaging, and three-dimensional segment modeling to cope with this problem. These techniques have some disadvantages such as high cost, the necessity of intravenous drug administration, need for an additional imaging system and ineffectiveness due to emphysema, anthracotic lung surface or interalveolar pores. Here we studied an alternative method for the solution of these disadvantages and aimed to demonstrate the correctness of a hypothesis based on detecting the cooling of the ischemic lung portion by a thermal camera after dividing the related pulmonary artery. METHODS We planned determining margins of resection with a thermal camera in patients scheduled for pulmonary lobectomy or segmentectomy. We made some measurements and mapping with a thermal camera before and after the dividing of pulmonary artery of related lobe or segment then processed the images taken with a software on the computer. RESULTS We detected a significant decrease in temperature in the ischemic lung area and demonstrated mapping the demarcation line between ischemic and perfused areas effectively by thermography in a total of 32 patients underwent lung resection. CONCLUSION Pulmonary resection margins can be detected effectively by thermography in patients.

Abstract
Background: One of the most significant characteristics of cancer is epithelial-mesenchymal transition and research on the relationship between phenolic compounds and anticancer medications and epithelial-mesenchymal transition is widespread. Methods: In order to investigate the potential effects of Taxifolin on enhancing the effectiveness of Epirubicin in treating breast cancer, specifically in 4T1 cells and an allograft BALB/c model, the effects of Taxifolin and Epirubicin, both individually and in combination, were examined. Cell viability assays and cytotoxicity assays in 4T1 cells were performed. In addition, 4T1 cells were implanted into female BALB/c mice to conduct in vivo studies and evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Taxifolin and Epirubicin alone or in combination. Tumor volumes and histological analysis were also assessed in mice. To further understand the mechanisms involved, we examined the messenger RNA and protein levels of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related genes, as well as active Caspase-3/7 levels, using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, western blot, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, respectively. Results: In vitro results demonstrated that the coadministration of Taxifolin and Epirubicin reduced cell viability and cytotoxicity in 4T1 cell lines. In vivo, coadministration of Taxifolin and Epirubicin suppressed tumor growth in BALB/c mice with 4T1 breast cancer cells. Additionally, this combination treatment significantly increased the levels of active caspase-3/7 and downregulated the messenger RNA and protein levels of N-cadherin, β-catenin, vimentin, snail, and slug, but upregulated the E-cadherin gene. It significantly decreased the messenger RNA levels of the Zeb1 and Zeb2 genes. Conclusion: The in vitro and in vivo results of our study indicate that the concurrent use of Epirubicin with Taxifolin has supportive effects on breast cancer treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Natural and synthetic biocompatible polymers have received significant attention in the pharmaceutical industry due to their rapid and effective healing properties in the wound healing process. The aim of this study was to optimize the extraction of onions, the preparation of sodium alginate/collagen/hydrogen boron nitride (NaAlg/Col/h-BN) membranes using the Box-Behnken experimental design, and determine the optimal conditions for quercetin release. The study also aimed to investigate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the prepared membranes and their therapeutic properties. METHODS AND RESULTS The prepared membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fourier transform infrared (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Antimicrobial activities were tested against Gram-negative (Gr-) Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumonia, Enterobacter aerogenes, Gram-positive (Gr+) Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 pathogens. In vitro release studies were conducted to examine the therapeutic properties of the prepared membranes. The optimum conditions for the extraction of onions and the preparation of NaAlg/Col/h-BN membranes were found to be EtOH = 75 mL, t = 2 h, T = 45°C, and NaAlg = 1.0 g, Col = 2.0 g, and h-BN = 6% wt, respectively. The prepared membranes exhibited serious antimicrobial properties against S. aureus and C. albicans. The membranes also promoted the controlled release of quercetin for 24 h in vitro, indicating their potential as a new approach in wound treatment. CONCLUSION The study concludes that quercetin-filled NaAlg/Col/h-BN membranes have promising therapeutic properties for wound healing. The membranes exhibited significant antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, and their controlled release of quercetin suggests their potential for use in wound healing applications.

Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive overview of organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells, including their materials, technologies, and performance. In this context, the historical evolution of PV cell technology is explored, and the classification of PV production technologies is presented, along with a comparative analysis of first, second, and third-generation solar cells. A classification and comparison of PV cells based on materials used is also provided. The working principles and device structures of OPV cells are examined, and a brief comparison between device structures is made, highlighting their advantages, disadvantages, and key features. The various parts of OPV cells are discussed, and their performance, efficiency, and electrical characteristics are reviewed. A detailed SWOT analysis is conducted, identifying promising strengths and opportunities, as well as challenges and threats to the technology. The paper indicates that OPV cells have the potential to revolutionize the solar energy industry due to their low production costs, and ability to produce thin, flexible solar cells. However, challenges such as lower efficiency, durability, and technological limitations still exist. Despite these challenges, the tunability and versatility of organic materials offer promise for future success. The paper concludes by suggesting that future research should focus on addressing the identified challenges and developing new materials and technologies that can further improve the performance and efficiency of OPV cells.

Abstract
In this study, the extraction of oil from pinecone of Pinus brutia was evaluated by supercritical CO2 (Sc-CO2) and Soxhlet extraction methods. The quercetin, rutin and kaempferol (QRK) contents of oil were analyzed one by one via HPLC. The rutin compound investigated in this study has the potential to be a drug against the COVID 19 virus. SEM and BET analysis were performed to observe the structural change and increase in surface area after Sc-CO2 extraction. The operating conditions were investigated in the range of 35–65 °C temperatures, 140–220 bar of pressures, 0.30–1.00 mm of mean particle sizes, 3–7 l/min of CO2 flow rates, 0–8% w/w co-solvent and 30–150 min extraction periods. When the results obtained by the Sc-CO2 method were compared with the results of Soxhlet extraction method, the maximum recovery of total QRK was found 4.18% in co-solvent-free studies and 30.94% in co-solvent-added Sc-CO2 studies. Sc-CO2 extraction results of Q, R, and K were found as 14.75 ± 1.08 µg/g, 14.23 ± 1.27 µg/g, and 15.70 ± 1.13 µg/g pinecone, respectively. Soxhlet extraction results of Q, R, and K were found as 36.43 ± 2.26 μg/g, 57.19 ± 3.81 μg/g, and 50.80 ± 2.79 μg/g pinecone, respectively. The maximum amount of QRK was found as 44.68 ± 2.89 μg/g pinecone by Sc-CO2 method via adding 8% ethanol by mass and as 144.42 ± 5.39 μg/g pinecone by Soxhlet method. According to the reference Soxhlet method efficiency, the Sc-CO2 extraction recovery was found as 30.94%.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rumex crispus L. (Polygonaceae), known as "Labada" in Turkey, was reported to be used for the treatment of gynecological diseases such as postpartum complications and infertility in folk medicine. Earlier studies on R. crispus have shown that leaf, fruit and root extracts have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities and are used for the treatment of tumors in the uterus. The hypothesis of this study is that R. crispus may generate potential anti-adhesive activity against complex factors such as inflammation, oxidation and fibrosis. OBJECTIVES We aimed to investigate the potential anti-adhesive activity of aqueous methanol extracts of leaves, fruits and roots of R. crispus. METHODS Abdominal adhesion model was performed in 72 female Wistar Albino rats. In the first step of the experiment, the rats were divided into six groups namely, Sham, Control, Reference and Experimental Groups (consisting of three sub-groups in which R. crispus leaf, fruit and root extracts were applied at 100 mg/kg dose). The test samples were administered once to the peritoneal cavity and the rats were sacrificied at the end of the 14th day. Root extract showed prominent activity, therefore this extract was subjected to fractionation to obtain 3 fractions (30-60-100% methanol fractions) by using vacuum-liquid chromatography. In the second stage, animals were divided into 6 groups as Sham, Control, Reference and Experimental Groups (R30, R60, R100 at 100 mg/kg dose). Adhesion scoring, tissue total antioxidant and oxidant levels, histopathological and immunohistochemical (TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8) analyzes were performed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Adhesion scores, inflammatory cytokines and inflammation cells decreased by the application of R. crispus root extract. The fractions also showed similar anti-inflammatory effects, but R60 was found to be more effective in prevention of intra-abdominal adhesions and uterine fibrosis. R60 fraction, possessing potential bioactivity, was investigated in terms of phenolic composition by HPLC.

Abstract
In this study, anatomy and histology of the male reproductive system of Chrysolina herbacea (Duftschmid 1825) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) are described and illustrated by using light and scanning electron microscopies. Data from the male gonad of this species provide more extended and precise knowledge regarding the histoanatomical structure of the reproductive system in Chrysomelidae. The male reproductive system in C. herbacea consists of paired bilobed testes, two paired vas efferentia, paired seminal vesicles, paired vas deferentia, paired tubular accessory glands, a ductus ejaculatorius, and an aedeagus. Each testis consists of 40 follicles enveloped in a yellow pigmented sheath. In the light and scanning electron microscope examinations of male reproductive system of C. herbacea, different spermatogenesis stages (spermatocytes, spermatids, and spermatozoa) are found. Each testes follicle joins with the vas efferens surrounded by monolayered cubic epithelium with oval nuclei. Epithelial cells are covered from the outside with a thin layer of muscle and sheath. Vas efferens connect to vas deferens that may have an enlarged and differentiated region = seminal vesicle. Mature spermatozoa are seen in the lumen of the vas efferens, seminal vesicle, and vas deferens. There is a pair of accessory glands with a convoluted appearance in the tubular structure around the vas deferens. The vas deferens is a straight tube which leads into the proximal end of the ductus ejaculatorius. Ductus ejaculatorius wall is surrounded by intima, monolayer epithelium, and a thick muscle layer with many nuclei. The distal section of the ductus ejaculatorius is housed within the aedeagus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stress relieving corticoto mies during the treatment of maxillary expansion are needed in adult patients. METHODS Three-dimensional (3D) finite element model was prepared, and finite element analysis was processed to evaluate the stress distributions within the skull and maxillary teeth during surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME) treatment. RESULTS Expansion forces generated more stress on the corticotomy-applied part of the maxilla. The stress levels decreased dramatically above the corticotomy line. CONCLUSION Asymmetric transveral maxillary expansion might be achieved from a symmetric force generating screw during SARME treatment. SARME osteotomies may concentrate the stress in the expanding maxilla and reduce the pain in other parts of the cranium.
