Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of 3D-Printed Samples Using Mica-Epoxy Acrylate Resin Composites-Via Digital Light Processing (DLP)

Digital light processing (DLP) techniques are widely employed in various engineering and design fields, particularly additive manufacturing. Acrylate resins utilized in DLP processes are well known for their versatility, which enables the production of defect-free 3D-printed products with excellent mechanical properties. This study aims to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of 3D-printed samples by incorporating mica as an inorganic filler at different concentrations (5%, 10%, and 15%) and optimizing the dispersion by adding a KH570 silane coupling agent. In this study, mica was introduced as a filler and combined with epoxy acrylate resin to fabricate a 3D-printed sample. Varying concentrations of mica (5%, 10%, and 15% w/w) were mixed with the epoxy acrylate resin at a concentration of 10%, demonstrating a tensile strength increase of 85% and a flexural strength increase of 132%. Additionally, thermal characteristics were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and successful morphological investigations were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Digital light-processing technology was selected for its printing accuracy and cost-effectiveness. The results encompass comprehensive studies of the mechanical, thermal, and morphological aspects that contribute to the advancement of additive manufacturing technology.

Forsythoside A protects against Zearalenone-induced cell damage in chicken embryonic fibroblasts via mitigation of endoplasmic reticulum stress

Zearalenone (ZEA) is a non-steroidal estrogenic mycotoxin that exerts its toxic effects through various damage mechanisms such as oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), mitochondrial damage, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. At present, there are few studies on drugs that can rescue ZEA-induced chicken embryonic fibroblasts damage. Forsythoside A (FA) is one of effective ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine that plays a role in various biological functions, but its antitoxin research has not been investigated so far. In this study, in vitro experiments were carried out. Chicken embryo fibroblast (DF-1) cells was used as the research object to select the appropriate treatment concentration of ZEA and examined reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential, ERS and apoptosis to investigate the effects and mechanisms of FA in alleviating ZEA-induced cytotoxicity in DF-1 cells. Our results showed that ZEA induced ERS and activated the unfolded protein response (UPR) leading to apoptosis, an apoptotic pathway characterized by overproduction of Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Caspase-3, and ROS and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential. We also demonstrated that FA help to prevent ERS and attenuated ZEA-induced apoptosis in DF-1 cells by reducing the level of ROS, downregulating GRP78, PERK, ATF4, ATF6, JNK, IRE1, ASK1, CHOP, BAX expression, and up-regulating Bcl-2 expression. Our results provide a basis for an in-depth study of the mechanism of toxic effects of ZEA on chicken cells and the means of detoxification, which has implications for the treatment of relevant avian diseases.

Highly Sensitive Photopolymer for Holographic Data Storage Containing Methacryl Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane

Herein, via introducing eight methacryl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (Ma-POSS), we dramatically enhance the holographic performance of phenanthraquinone-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PQ/PMMA) photopolymer with excellent characteristics of high sensitivity, high diffraction efficiency, and neglectable volume shrinkage for holographic data storage, the photosensitivity, diffraction efficiency, and volume shrinkage reaching 1.47 cm/J, ∼75%, and ∼0.09%, respectively. Ma-POSS here dramatically enhances the photosensitivity ∼5.5 times, diffraction efficiency more than 50%, and suppressed the volume shrinkage over 4 times. Further analysis reveals that Ma-POSS obviously increased the molecular weight by grafting PMMA to be a star-shaped macromolecule. And the residual C═C of POSS-PMMA dramatically increased the photosensitivity. Moreover, the star-shaped POSS-PMMA acting as a plasticizer dramatically enhances the mechanical properties and so reduces the photoinduced volume shrinkage of PQ/PMMA. Finally, by the use of the POSS-PMMA/PQ in a collinear holography system, it appeared to be promising for a fast but low bit error rate in holographic information storage. The current study thence has not only successfully synthesized photopolymer materials with potential for highly sensitive holographic storage applications but also investigated the microphysical mechanism of the impact of Ma-POSS on the holographic properties of PQ/PMMA photopolymer and clarified the thermal- and photoreaction processes of the POSS-PMMA/PQ photopolymer.
