Abstract
BACKGROUND The informal caregivers of adult patients with β-thalassemia major (β-TM) bear not only physical but also emotional and economic pressures of providing care. This study is the first to evaluate the caregiver burden by Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) of adult patients with β-TM in mainland China and to identify predictors of caregiver burden. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we conducted an online survey with snowball sampling covering seven provinces between September 1, 2021, and January 31, 2022, of patients aged ≥ 18 years with β-TM and their informal caregivers. Caregiver burden was assessed using the ZBI. Data on patient demographics, disease and therapy characteristics, and informal caregivers' demographic characteristics were collected and analysed using independent t-tests, analysis of variance, Spearman's correlation and multiple linear regression. RESULTS Of 75 included patients, more than half (50.7%) were male. The mean patient age was 24.69 ± 5.59 years. The mean age of the informal caregivers was 50.60 ± 9.16 years, with women (74.7%) being predominant. The ZBI score was 38.00 ± 17.02. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that patients with interrupted blood transfusion therapy and informal caregivers required to care of others were positively associated with caregiver burden (p < 0.05). Age of informal caregivers were borderline significant positively associated with caregiver burden (p < 0.1). Married informal caregivers were negatively associated with caregiver burden (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The informal caregivers of adult patients with β-TM in mainland China experienced a moderate-to-severe level of caregiving burden. The caregiver burden was higher in patients with a history of interrupted blood transfusion therapy or in informal caregivers who were older or needed to care for others. Additionally, married informal caregivers experienced lower burdens compared to non-married informal caregivers. These findings provide a reference to identify informal caregivers with higher burdens among patients with β-TM.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to describe the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of cancer survivors in China by the five-level EuroQol-5-dimension (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire and to explore the impact of the comorbidity of pre-existing chronic conditions on HRQoL in cancer survivors. METHODS Data on cancer survivors were obtained from two cross-sectional surveys conducted in Shandong Province, China. The data of the Chinese general population, the Chinese diabetes population, the Chinese hypertension population, and the Chinese urban population from the published studies were used as the controls. The χ2 test was conducted to compare the incidence of five-dimensional problems between the study and control populations. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were performed to examine the differences in EQ-5D-5L utility scores. Besides, the Tobit regression model was used to examine the variables influencing the EQ-5D-5L utility score. RESULTS One thousand fifty-one adult cancer survivors were included. Cancer survivors had significantly lower EQ-5D-5L utility scores (Z = - 15.939, P < 0.001) and EQ-VAS scores (Z = - 11.156, P < 0.001) than the general adult population. The average EQ-5D-5L utility score of hypertensive cancer survivors was lower than that of the hypertensive population (Z = - 1.610, P = 0.107), but the difference was not statistically significant. CONCLUSION Compared to the general population, the HRQoL of cancer survivors was extremely poor in all dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L. Pre-existing chronic conditions had significant antecedent effects on the HRQoL of cancer survivors. Therefore, more attention should be paid to chronic diseases, and effective interventions should be adopted based on this.

Abstract
Sequence motif discovery algorithms enhance the identification of novel deoxyribonucleic acid sequences with pivotal biological significance, especially transcription factor (TF)-binding motifs. The advent of assay for transposase-accessible chromatin using sequencing (ATAC-seq) has broadened the toolkit for motif characterization. Nonetheless, prevailing computational approaches have focused on delineating TF-binding footprints, with motif discovery receiving less attention. Herein, we present Cis rEgulatory Motif Influence using de Bruijn Graph (CEMIG), an algorithm leveraging de Bruijn and Hamming distance graph paradigms to predict and map motif sites. Assessment on 129 ATAC-seq datasets from the Cistrome Data Browser demonstrates CEMIG's exceptional performance, surpassing three established methodologies on four evaluative metrics. CEMIG accurately identifies both cell-type-specific and common TF motifs within GM12878 and K562 cell lines, demonstrating its comparative genomic capabilities in the identification of evolutionary conservation and cell-type specificity. In-depth transcriptional and functional genomic studies have validated the functional relevance of CEMIG-identified motifs across various cell types. CEMIG is available at https://github.com/OSU-BMBL/CEMIG, developed in C++ to ensure cross-platform compatibility with Linux, macOS and Windows operating systems.

Abstract
The electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a promising method for the efficient production of biomass-derived high-value-added chemicals. However, its practical application is limited by: 1) the low activity and selectivity caused by the competitive adsorption of HMF and OH- and 2) the low operational stability caused by the uncontrollable reconstruction of the catalyst. To overcome these limitations, a series of Ni3 S2 /NiOx -n catalysts with controllable compositions and well-defined structures are synthesized using a novel in situ controlled surface reconstruction strategy. The adsorption behavior of HMF and OH- can be continuously adjusted by varying the ratio of NiOx to Ni3 S2 on the catalysts surface, as indicated by in situ characterizations, contact angle analysis, and theoretical simulations. Owing to the balanced competitive adsorption of HMF and OH- , the optimized Ni3 S2 /NiOx -15 catalyst exhibited remarkable HMF electrocatalytic oxidation performance, with the current density reaching 366 mA cm-2 at 1.5 VRHE and the Faradaic efficiency of the product, 2,5-furanedicarboxylic acid, reaching 98%. Moreover, Ni3 S2 /NiOx -15 exhibits excellent durability, with its activity and structure remaining stable for over 100 h of operation. This study provides a new route for the design and construction of catalysts for value-added biomass conversion and offers new insights into enhancing catalytic performance by balancing competitive adsorption.

Abstract
Circularly polarized light detection has attracted growing attention because of its unique application in security surveillance and quantum optics. Here, through designing a chiral polymer as a donor, a high-performance circularly polarized light detector is fabricated, successfully enabling detection from ultraviolet (300 nm) to near-infrared (1100 nm). The chiroptical detector presents an excellent ability to distinguish right-handed and left-handed circularly polarized light, where dissymmetries in detectivity, responsivity, and electric current are obtained and then optimized. The dissymmetry in electric current can be increased from 0.18 to 0.23 once an external magnetic field is applied. This is a very rare report on the dissymmetry tunability by an external field in chiroptical detectors. Moreover, the chirality-generated orbital angular momentum is one of the key factors determining the performance of the circularly polarized light detection. Overall, the organic chiroptical detector presents excellent stability in detection, which provides great potential for future flexible and compact integrated platforms.

Abstract
Detecting multipartite quantum coherence usually requires quantum state reconstruction, which is quite inefficient for large-scale quantum systems. Along this line of research, several efficient procedures have been proposed to detect multipartite quantum coherence without quantum state reconstruction, among which the spectrum-estimation-based method is suitable for various coherence measures. Here, we first generalize the spectrum-estimation-based method for the geometric measure of coherence. Then, we investigate the tightness of the estimated lower bound of various coherence measures, including the geometric measure of coherence, the l1-norm of coherence, the robustness of coherence, and some convex roof quantifiers of coherence multiqubit GHZ states and linear cluster states. Finally, we demonstrate the spectrum-estimation-based method as well as the other two efficient methods. We observe that the spectrum-estimation-based method outperforms other methods in various coherence measures, which significantly enhances the accuracy of estimation.
