Platelet Membrane Coated Cu9S8-SNAP for Targeting NIR-II Mild Photothermal Enhanced Chemodynamic/Gas Therapy of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive and uncommon subtype of breast cancer with a poor prognosis. It is crucial to prioritise the creation of a nanotherapeutic method that is highly selective and actively targeting TNBC. This study explores a new nanosystem, Cu9S8-SNAP@PM (C-S@P), composed of Cu9S8-SNAP coated with a platelet membrane (PM). The purpose of this nanosystem is to cure TNBC using multimodal therapy. The utilisation of PM-coated nanoparticles (NPs) enables active targeting, leading to the efficient accumulation of C-S@P within the tumour. The Cu9S8 component within these NPs serves the potential to exert photothermal therapy (PTT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Simultaneously, the S-Nitroso-N-Acetylvanicillamine (SNAP) component enables nitric oxide (NO) gas therapy (GT). Furthermore, when exposed to NIR-II laser light, Cu9S8 not only increases the temperature of the tumour area for PTT, but also boosts CDT and stimulates the release of NO through thermal reactions to improve the effectiveness of GT. Both in vitro and in vivo experimental results validate that C-S@P exhibits minimal side effects and represents a multifunctional nano-drug targeted at tumors for efficient treatment. This approach promises significant potential for TNBC therapy and broader applications in oncology.

Bibliometric and visualized analysis of scientific publications on subglottic stenosis based on web of science core collection

BACKGROUND

Subglottic Stenosis (SGS), with increasing numbers of studies, is the most specific and common clinical type of Laryngotracheal Stenosis (LTS). There is rapid publication turnover with newer management introduced and expanding research field. To our knowledge, there is no bibliometric analysis of SGS yet.

METHODS

In August 2022, we performed a thorough search in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the word "subglottic stenosis," and "SGS." The 580 articles were arranged based on correlation. The collected articles were then analyzed with an assessment of relevant factors. Meanwhile, we analyzed the top 100 most-cited articles on SGS.

RESULTS

The frequency of publication on SGS has increased substantially over time. The USA has contributed the most articles (n = 301). Vanderbilt University published most of the articles among other institutions (n = 18). Laryngoscope topped the list of journals and has published 89 SGS-related articles. Research hotspots shift from surgical treatment to conservative management.

CONCLUSIONS

The SGS-related literature has grown rapidly in recent years. This study represents the first bibliometric analysis of scientific articles on SGS. Areas to improve in SGS research can be identified after this analysis of the most impactful articles on this topic.

Prognostic value of platelet distribution width to lymphocyte ratio in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma following hepatectomy

BACKGROUND

Platelet distribution width (PDW), but not platelet count, was found to more comprehensively reflect platelet activity. The present study, thus, aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of PDW to lymphocyte ratio (PDWLR) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following hepatectomy.

METHODS

Patients following hepatectomy were analyzed retrospectively. The Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Cox regression model were used to determine the prognostic value of PDWLR.

RESULTS

241 patients were analyzed eventually, and stratified into low and high PDWLR groups (≤ 9.66 vs. > 9.66). Results of comparing the baseline characteristics showed that high PDWLR was significantly associated with cirrhosis, and intraoperative blood loss (all P < 0.05). In multivariate COX regression analysis, PDWLR was demonstrated as an independent risk factor for OS (HR: 1.549, P = 0.041) and RFS (HR: 1.655, P = 0.005). Moreover, PDWLR demonstrated a superior capacity for predicting prognosis compared to other indicators.

CONCLUSION

Preoperative PDWLR has a potential value in predicting the prognosis of HCC patients following hepatectomy, which may help in clinical decision-making for individual treatment.

Preoperative prediction model for microvascular invasion in HBV-related intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

BACKGROUND AND AIMS

Preoperative prediction of microvascular invasion (MVI) using a noninvasive method remain unresolved, especially in HBV-related in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). This study aimed to build and validate a preoperative prediction model for MVI in HBV-related ICC.

METHODS

Patients with HBV-associated ICC undergoing curative surgical resection were identified. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the independent risk factors of MVI in the training cohort. Then, a prediction model was built by enrolling the independent risk factors. The predictive performance was validated by receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC) and calibration in the validation cohort.

RESULTS

Consecutive 626 patients were identified and randomly divided into the training (418, 67%) and validation (208, 33%) cohorts. Multivariate analysis showed that TBIL, CA19-9, tumor size, tumor number, and preoperative image lymph node metastasis were independently associated with MVI. Then, a model was built by enrolling former fiver risk factors. In the validation cohort, the performance of this model showed good calibration. The area under the curve was 0.874 (95% CI: 0.765-0.894) and 0.729 (95%CI: 0.706-0.751) in the training and validation cohort, respectively. Decision curve analysis showed an obvious net benefit from the model.

CONCLUSION

Based on clinical data, an easy model was built for the preoperative prediction of MVI, which can assist clinicians in surgical decision-making and adjuvant therapy.
