Abstract
Climate change directly or indirectly affects the standard of living and quality of life for everyone, and so it has generated widespread interest and concern. Human awareness of global climate change, knowledge of the dimensions of the problem, and its consequences, are the first and most important steps towards a solution. However much the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement are seen as global efforts to combat climate change, economic outcomes overshadow worries about climate change. Therefore, even if individual awareness seems small for such a large problem, it is as an effective first step. In this regard, a survey was conducted among 384 people living in the districts of Odunpazarı and Tepebaşı of Eskişehir province to determine their levels of awareness and knowledge of climate change. Survey participants were evaluated with regard to the district in which they lived and their gender, age group, education, membership in nongovernmental organizations (NGO), and income. Correlations between various determinant characteristics of the participants and their knowledge of climate change and readiness to pay more for goods produced without harming the environment are presented with χ2 analysis, percentages, and proportions. No statistically significant correlation was found between knowledge of climate change of the participants and district, age, or gender, but a significant correlation was found between education and income levels, and NGO membership. There was no correlation between being willing to pay more for goods produced without harming the environment and district. No correlation was found between NGO membership and readiness to pay more for goods produced without harming the environment. Both central districts are close to each other and are very similar in terms of lifestyle, income, and the practices of local administrations regarding climate change and environmental problems. Abstract
BACKGROUND There is no human data regarding the exposure, metabolism and potential health effects of arsenic (As) contamination in drinking water in the Central Anatolian region of Turkey. METHODS Residents in ten villages with drinking water of total As (T-As) level >50 μg L-1 and 10-50 μg L-1 were selected as an exposed group (n = 420) and <10 μg L-1 as an unexposed group (n = 185). Time-weighted average-As (TWA-As) intake was calculated from T-As analysis of drinking water samples. Concentrations of T-As in urine and hair samples, urinary As species [i.e., As(III), As(V), MMA(V) and DMA(V], and some micronutrients in serum samples of residents of the study area were determined. Primary and secondary methylation indices (PMI and SMI, respectively) were assessed from urinary As species concentrations and the presence of skin lesion was examined. RESULTS TWA-As intake was found as 75 μg L-1 in the exposed group. Urinary and hair T-As and urinary As species concentrations were significantly higher in the exposed group (P < 0.05). The PMI and SMI values revealed that methylation capacities of the residents were efficient and that there was no saturation in As metabolism. No significant increase was observed in the frequency of skin lesions (hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, keratosis) of the exposed group (P > 0.05). Only frequency of keratosis either at the hand or foot was higher in individuals with hair As concentration >1 μg g-1 (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Individuals living in the study area were chronically exposed to low-to-moderate As due to geological contamination in drinking water. No significant increase was observed in the frequency of skin lesions. Because of the controversy surrounding the health risks of low-to-moderate As exposure, it is critical to initiate long-term follow-up studies on health effects in this region.

Abstract
Sulfur (S) deficiency in soils and plants has been increased in the recent decade which is reducing crop yield and quality. Unfortunately, no extensive study has been conducted on S nutritional status of plants in Turkey. In this study, soil and plant samples were collected from Çukurova, Central Anatolia and GAP regions where wheat is extensively cultivated. Plant samples either as flag leaf or the whole shoot were collected depending on growth stage of wheat crop at sample collection. Similarly, surface (0-20 cm) and sub-surface (20-40 cm) soil samples were collected from plant sampling sites and a total 963 plant and 1947 soil samples were collected during the study. The S concentration in flag leaf samples varied between 0.18 and 0.67%, 0.11-0.59% and 0.17-0.82% for central Anatolia, Çukurova and GAP regions, respectively. According to S concentration in flag leaf samples, 99% of the plants in Çukurova region were found sufficient in S nutrition. However, 49% of the samples collected from central Anatolia and GAP regions were deficient in S. Critical N:S ratio indicating S nutrition status of plants was lower than the widely accepted critical value of 17. This low N:S ratio was a consequence of deficient N nutrition rather than S nutrition. Moreover, it was observed that plant available SO4-S concentration of soils varied within and among sampled provinces with an average value of 20.6 and 31.6 mg kg-1 for surface and sub-surface samples, respectively. The SO4-S concentration increased with increasing soil depth. The results indicate a significantly positive correlation between S concentration in plant shoot and plant available SO4-S concentration in soils. In conclusion, S-containing fertilizer use in central Anatolia and GAP regions must be considered as an important approach for the prevention of yield and quality losses. Furthermore, rapid and sensitive plant and soil analysis methods are needed, which must also consider the local and site-specific conditions.

Abstract
Objective In Turkey, leishmaniasis occurs in two clinical forms: cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) and visceral leishmaniasis (VL). CL has been reported mainly from south-eastern Anatolia and the eastern part of the Mediterranean region, whereas VL is sporadic in almost all geographical regions of Turkey. Both clinical forms of the disease have been recorded in Kayseri province for decades, but no study has been conducted on the sand fly fauna in this area. Therefore, we determine the species composition and population dynamics of sand flies prevalent in Kayseri province and identify possible vector species. Methods Data related to the recent locations of CL and VL cases were obtained from the Ministry of Health, and sand flies were collected in 14 localities of different districts using CDC light traps. The specimens were transferred to the laboratory in 70% ethanol, and morphological identification to the species level was performed using previously written keys. Results A total of 1,636 sand fly specimens were collected. Morphological identification revealed eight species of the genus Phlebotomus (P. perfiliewi s.l., P. halepensis, P. simici, P. major s.l., P. papatasi, P. tobbi, P. sergenti and P. mascittii) and one species of the genus Sergentomyia (S. dentata). Among all specimens, members of subgenus Adlerius (54.58%) formed the dominant group, followed by the subgenus Larroussius (43.76%). Conclusion Our results showed that P. halepensis, belonging to subgenus Adlerius, and P. perfiliewi, belonging to the subgenus, are probable vectors of cutaneous and VL in the province, respectively.

Abstract
The molecular prevalence and genotypes of Giardia duodenalis in cattle were investigated. A total of 450 fecal samples were collected from cattle in three provinces of Central Anatolia from August 2017 to July 2019. Genomic DNA was extracted from the fecal samples and used in molecular analysis carried out by nested PCR analyses of the β-giardin (bg) gene of G. duodenalis. Positive samples were further analyzed by nested PCR at two gene loci (triosephosphate isomerase (tpi) and glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh)) for genotyping of G. duodenalis isolates. PCR analyses of the bg gene indicated that the overall prevalence of G. duodenalis was 30.2%. However, lower rates were determined with PCR analyses for gdh and tpi loci. The sequence analyses of the bg, gdh, and tpi genes revealed the presence of zoonotic assemblage A and livestock-specific assemblage E. Combined-sequence analyses revealed that assemblage E was the most common in the study area. Our study provides the first data on the wide prevalence of livestock-specific assemblages E in cattle in Turkey. The prevalence of assemblage A in cattle also reveals the importance of cattle for zoonotic transmission of giardiasis in Turkey.

Abstract
Livestock dung is a valuable material for reconstructing human and animal inter-relations and activity within open areas and built environments. This paper examines the identification and multi-disciplinary analysis of dung remains from three neighbouring sites in the Konya Plain of Central Anatolia, Turkey: Boncuklu (ninth-eighth millennium cal BC), the Çatalhöyük East Mound (eighth-sixth millennium cal BC), and the Late Neolithic occupation at the Pınarbaşı rockshelter (seventh millennium cal BC). It presents and evaluates data on animal management strategies and husbandry practices through the simultaneous examination of plant and faecal microfossils and biomarkers with thin-section micromorphology and integrated phytolith, dung spherulite, and biomolecular analyses, together with comparative reference geo-ethnoarchaeological assemblages. Herbivore dung and other coprogenic materials have been identified predominantly in open areas, pens and midden deposits through micromorphology and the chemical signatures of their depositional contexts and composition. Accumulations of herbivore faecal material and burnt remains containing calcitic spherulites and phytoliths have provided new information on animal diet, fodder and dung fuel. Evidence from phytoliths from in situ penning deposits at early Neolithic Çatalhöyük have provided new insights into foddering/grazing practices by identifying highly variable herbivorous regimes including both dicotyledonous and grass-based diets. This review illustrates the variability of dung deposits within early agricultural settlements and their potential for tracing continuity and change in ecological diversity, herd management strategies and foddering, health, energy and dung use, as well as the complexity of interactions between people and animals in this key region during the early Holocene.
