Abstract
Research using zebrafish (Danio rerio) has begun to provide novel information in many fields, including the behavioral pharmacology of drug use and misuse. There have been limited studies on the effects of methamphetamine in adult zebrafish and the parameters of exposure (dose, test session length) have not been well-documented. Behavior following drug exposure is generally measured during relatively short sessions (6-10 min is common) in a novel tank environment. Many procedural variables (isolation, netting, novel tank) elicit anxiety-like behavior that is most apparent during the initial portion of a test session. This anxiety-like behavior might mask the initial effects of methamphetamine. During longer test sessions, these anxiety-like responses would be expected to habituate and drug effects should become more apparent. To test this idea, we measured several locomotor activity responses for 50-min following a range of methamphetamine doses (0.1-3.0 mg/L via immersion in methamphetamine solution). Methamphetamine failed to alter swimming velocity, distance travelled, or freezing time. In contrast, methamphetamine produced a dose-dependent decrease in time spent in the bottom of the tank, an increase in the number of visits to the top of the tank, and an increase in the number of transitions along the sides of the tank. The effects of methamphetamine were apparent 10-20 min following exposure and generally persisted throughout the session. These findings indicate that longer test sessions are required to measure methamphetamine-induced changes in behavior in zebrafish, as has been shown in other laboratory animals. The results also suggest that anxiety-like responses associated with various procedural aspects (netting, isolation, novel test apparatus) likely interfere with the ability to observe many behavioral effects of methamphetamine in zebrafish. Based on the current results, habituation to testing procedures to reduce anxiety-like behaviors is recommended in determining the effects of methamphetamine in zebrafish.

Abstract
The impacts of contaminants on wildlife are dose dependent, and thus being able to track or predict exposure following contamination events is important for monitoring ecosystem health. However, the ability to track exposure in free-ranging wildlife is often severely limited. Consequently, researchers have predominantly relied on simple methods for estimating contaminant exposures in wildlife with little regard for spatial contaminant heterogeneity or an animal's use of diverse habitats. We evaluated the influence sampling scale (i.e., how finely contaminant distribution and organism's spatial use of the landscape is mapped) has on (1) realism and (2) conservativeness of exposure estimates. To do this, we monitored the actual exposure of wild boar (Sus scrofa) in Fukushima, Japan to radioactive contamination using GPS-coupled contaminant monitors placed on individual animals. We compared empirical exposures to estimates generated by combining varying amounts of information about an individual boar's location and/or movement, with the distribution of contamination on the landscape. We found that the most realistic exposure estimates were produced when finer-scale contaminant distribution surveys (e.g., airborne surveys) were combined with more accurate estimates of an individual's space use (e.g., home ranges or core areas). Importantly, estimates of exposure based on single point surveys at a trap site (a simple method commonly used in the literature), did not correlate with actual exposure rates, suggesting dose-effects studies using this method may result in spurious conclusions. These results suggest that researchers seeking realistic estimates of exposure, such as in dose-effect studies, should ensure they have adequately accounted for fine-scale contaminant distribution patterns and areas of higher use by study organisms. However, conservative estimates of exposure (i.e., intentionally over-predicting exposure as is done in initial tiers of ecological risk analyses) were not as scale sensitive and could be achieved with a single known location and coarse contaminant distribution maps.

Abstract
Antipsychotic-induced akathisia is severely distressing. We aimed to investigate relationships between antipsychotic doses and akathisia risk. We searched for randomised controlled trials that investigated monotherapy of 17 antipsychotics in adults with acute schizophrenia until 06 March 2022. The primary outcome was the number of participants with akathisia, which was analysed with odds ratios (ORs). We applied one-stage random-effects dose-response meta-analyses using restricted cubic splines to model the dose-response relationships. We included 98 studies (343 dose arms, 34,225 participants), most of which were short-term and had low-to-moderate risk of bias. We obtained data on all antipsychotics except clozapine and zotepine. In patients with acute exacerbations of chronic schizophrenia, from moderate to high certainty of evidence, our analysis showed that sertindole and quetiapine carried negligible risks for akathisia across examined doses (flat curves), while most of the other antipsychotics had their risks increase initially with increasing doses and then either plateaued (hyperbolic curves) or continued to rise (monotonic curves), with maximum ORs ranging from 1.76 with 95% Confidence Intervals [1.24, 2.52] for risperidone at 5.4 mg/day to OR 11.92 [5.18, 27.43] for lurasidone at 240 mg/day. We found limited or no data on akathisia risk in patients with predominant negative symptoms, first-episode schizophrenia, or elderly patients. In conclusion, liability of akathisia varies between antipsychotics and is dose-related. The dose-response curves for akathisia in most antipsychotics are either monotonic or hyperbolic, indicating that higher doses carry a greater or equal risk compared to lower doses.

Abstract
Humans are constantly exposed to parabens (PBs), triclosan (TCS), benzophenones (BPs), and phthalate esters (PAEs) due to the widespread existence of these chemicals in personal care products (PCPs), and the high frequency of usage for humans. Previous studies indicated each class of the above-mentioned chemicals can exhibit potential adverse effects on humans, in particular DNA oxidative damage. However, the health risk assessment of combined exposures to multiple PCPs is limited, especially the overall dose-effect of mixtures of these chemicals on DNA oxidative damage. In this study, we measured the urinary levels of 6 PBs, TCS, 8 BPs, 15 metabolites of PAEs (mono-PAEs), and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) from 299 adults simultaneously. PBs, TCS, BPs, and mono-PAEs were frequently detected in urinary samples with median concentrations of 52.888, 0.737, 1.305, and 141.381 ng/ml, suggesting a broad, low-level exposure among participants. Risk assessments indicated approximately 22% and 15% of participants suffered health risks (Hazard index >1) from exposure to TCS and PAEs. The relationship between 8-OHdG levels and chemical exposure was estimated by Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models. It indicated an overall positive correlation between the mixture of these chemicals and 8-OHdG, with methylparaben and mono-benzyl phthalate contributing the most to this association. Of note, sex-related differences were observed, in which exposure to PCPs led to higher health risks and more pronounced dose-effect on DNA damage in the female population. Our novel findings reveal the health risks of exposure to low-level PCPs mixtures and further point out the overall dose-response relationship between DNA oxidative damage and PCP mixtures.

Abstract
Effects of antimicrobial peptides (AMP) added to diets on aquatic animal health and body function are influenced by multiple factors such as animal species, initial body weight, the dosage of AMP and feeding duration. However, there is limited knowledge on the relationship between these factors and the body function of aquatic animals. Here, we aimed to perform multiple meta-analyses to investigate the effects of dietary AMP on growth performance (feed conversion ratio [FCR], specific growth rate [SGR]), enzyme activity (superoxide dismutase activity [SOD], lysozyme activity [LSA]), disease resistance (cumulative survival rate [CSR], the expression of immune-related genes [GENE]) and the abundance of gut microbiota (MICRO) from a pool of empirical studies. Additionally, the dose-effect model was applied to determine the optimal AMP dose, initial body weight and feeding duration to maximize body function. To conduct the meta-analyses, we included 34 publications that estimated 705 effect sizes across 21 fish, 2 shrimp and 2 shellfish species. The results confirmed that the inclusion of AMP in the diet can significantly improve SGR, SOD, LSA, CSR and GENE and decrease FCR for aquatic animals. Interestingly, our findings implied a slight positive effect of AMP on MICRO albeit with a limited number of studies available on fish gut microbial communities. Although no significant linear or quadratic relationship was predicted by meta-regression, the dose-effect indicated that the optimal AMP doses for FCR, SGR, SOD and LSA were 707.5, 750.0, 1,050.0 and 937.5 mg/kg, respectively. Taken together, fish with an initial body weight of 30 g could be fed with a dose of 600 to 800 mg/kg for 2 mo when AMP-supplemented diets were applied in aquaculture, which can effectively improve body function and health while lowering aquafeed costs. In addition, more studies should address fish gut microbiota to delimitate the influence of dietary AMP on MICRO in the future.

Abstract
Inhalation is the most frequent route and the lung is the primary damaged organ for human exposure to benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, and styrene (BTEXS). However, there is limited information on the risk and dose-effect of the BTEXS mixture on pulmonary function, particularly the overall effect. We conducted a cross-sectional study in a petrochemical plant in southern China. Spirometry and cumulative exposure dose (CED) of BTEXS were used to measure lung function and exposure levels for 635 workers in 2020, respectively. Forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) were tested and interpreted as percentages to predicted values [FVC or FEV1% predicted], and FEV1 to FVC ratio [FEV1/FVC (%)]. We found the reduction in FVC% predicted and the risk of lung ventilation dysfunction (LVD) and its two subtypes (mixed and restrictive ventilation dysfunction, MVD, and MVD) were significantly associated with BTEXS individuals. In addition, pulmonary function damage associated with BTEXS was modified by the smoking status and age. Generalized weighted quantile sum (gWQS) regressions were used to estimate the overall dose-effect on lung function damage induced by the BTEXS mixture. Our results show wqs, an index of weighted quartiles for BTEXS, was potentially associated with the reduction in FVC and FEV1% predicted with the coefficients [95% confidence intervals (CI)] between -1.136 (-2.202, -0.070) and -1.230 (-2.265, -0.195). Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs for the wqs index of LVD, MVD, and RVD were 1.362 (1.129, 1.594), 1.323 (1.084, 1.562), and 1.394 (1.096, 1.692), respectively. Furthermore, xylene, benzene, and toluene in the BTEXS mixture potentially contribute to the development of lung function impairment. Our novel findings demonstrated the dose-response relationships between pulmonary function impairment and the BTEXS mixture and disclosed the potential key pollutants in the BTEXS mixture.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lung is one of the primary target organs of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, and styrene (BTEXS). Small airways dysfunction (SAD) might be a sensitive indicator of early chronic respiratory disease. Here, we explored the relationships between exposure to BTEXS and small airways function, and identified the priority control pollutants in BTEXS mixtures. METHODS 635 petrochemical workers were recruited. Standard spirometry testing was conducted by physicians. The cumulative exposure dose (CED) of BTEXS for each worker was estimated. The peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced expiratory flow between 25 and 75% of forced vital capacity (FEF25∼75%), and the expiratory flow rate found at 25%, 50%, and 75% of the remaining exhaled vital capacity (MEF25%, MEF50%, and MEF75%) were measured. SAD was also evaluated based on measured parameters. The associations between exposure to BTEXS individuals or mixtures and small airways function were evaluated using generalized linear regression models (GLMs) and quantile g-computation models (qgcomp). Meanwhile, the weights of each homolog in the association were estimated. RESULTS The median CED of BTEXS are 9.624, 19.306, 24.479, 28.210, and 46.781 mg/m3·years, respectively. A unit increase in ln-transformed styrene CED was associated with a decrease in FEF25∼75% and MEF50% based on GLMs. One quartile increased in BTEXS mixtures (ln-transformed) was significantly associated with a 0.325-standard deviation (SD) [95% confidence interval (CI): -0.464, -0.185] decline in FEF25∼75%, a 0.529-SD (95%CI: -0.691, -0.366) decline in MEF25%, a 0.176-SD (95%CI: -0.335, -0.017) decline in MEF75%, and increase in the risk of abnormal of SAD [risk ratios (95%CI): 1.520 (95%CI: 1.143, 2.020)]. Benzene and styrene were the major chemicals in BTEXS for predicting the overall risk of SAD. CONCLUSION Our novel findings demonstrate the significant association between exposure to BTEXS mixture and small airways function decline and the potential roles of key homologs (benzene and styrene) in SAD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The benefits of acupuncture on Major depressive disorder (MDD) have been well established in previous studies. However, uncertainty exists regarding the dose-effect relationship between acupuncture and MDD. This study aims to explore the association between acupuncture and its effects on MDD based on previously published data. METHODS Nine databases were searched from inception until 10th September 2021. Randomized controlled trials that compared acupuncture with sham acupuncture, or anti-depressants, were included. The data extraction, and assessing the data quality and risk of bias completed by two researcher, respectively. A non-linear meta-regression approach with restricted cubic spline was used to investigate the dose-effect relationship between acupuncture sessions and their effects on the Hamilton rating scale for depression (HAMD) score. RESULTS Of the 20,835 citations screened, 62 studies (2269 patients of MDD) were included. The dose-effect meta-analysis suggested that acupuncture session was associated with a decline in HAMD scores. Overall, an increase in the number of acupuncture sessions received was associated with symptom improvement in MDD patients. After 8 acupuncture sessions, the HAMD score decreased from 17.68 (95% CI: -11.81, -4.80) to 8.30 (95% CI: 14.23-21.13). After 24 acupuncture sessions, a decrease in HAMD scores was observed in 51% of cases (95% CI: 48% to 54%). After 36 acupuncture sessions, the effect of improvement in HAMD scores peaked at 66% of cases (95% CI: 59% to 72%). CONCLUSIONS A dose-effect relationship was found between the number of acupuncture sessions and HAMD scores. 36 acupuncture sessions were associated with optimal clinical response. Abstract
AIM To evaluate the associations of vaginal dose parameters and incidence of vaginal stenosis in patients with cervical cancer treated with image-guided brachytherapy (IGBT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-four patients with cervical cancer treated with IGBT were included. The vagina contouring was done on previously treated CT images and the vaginal dose points were marked. The cumulative dose in EQD2 from EBRT and IGBT was calculated for both aspects and the vaginal toxicity was evaluated. RESULTS At median follow-up time of 18.5 months, grade 2 or higher vaginal stenosis was observed in 24% of patients. On univariate analysis, parameters that were associated with ≥ grade 2 vaginal stenosis were age, mean dose of lateral 5 mm vagina, dose at PIBS-2 cm, mid vaginal D0 .03cc, mid vagina D1cc, lower vagina D0.03cc, lower vagina D0.1cc, lower vagina D1cc and lower vagina D2cc. On multivariate analysis, the significant parameters were age > 68.5 years old (P = 0.038), mean dose of lateral 5-mm (P = 0.034), and dose at PIBS-2 cm (P = 0.042). CONCLUSIONS Age > 68.5 years old, mean dose of lateral 5 mm vagina and dose at PIBS-2 cm were associated with grade 2 or higher vaginal stenosis.

Abstract
The Four Immeasurables Meditations (FIM) intervention have been shown as a promising intervention for reducing depressive symptoms. The current study is a systematic review of FIM intervention effects on depressive symptoms. Among 192 empirical research articles on FIM published before May 2019, 40 independent trials from 35 records measured depressive symptoms. The meta-analysis included 21 randomized controlled trials (RCT; n = 1468) and 16 uncontrolled trials (n = 376). The results supported overall effectiveness of FIM on depressive symptoms (d = 0.38 for RCT and d = 0.87 for uncontrolled trials). Moderator analysis indicated the effects differed across protocols, and effects were smaller in RCT using active control groups. No significant differences were observed for participant type, measures, intervention length, or intervention components. Individual studies found no direct association between meditation practice time and effects, and mindfulness and self-compassion were widely supported as mechanisms of change. Current evidence supports FIM as an effective intervention for reducing depressive symptoms, but additional studies with more rigorous designs using active control groups are needed. Further investigation should be encouraged regarding specific protocols and participants, the contribution of meditation practice, and other mechanisms such as positive emotions.

Abstract
Lincomycin mycelial residues (LMRs) are one kind of byproduct of the pharmaceutical industry. Hydrothermal treatment has been used to dispose of them and land application is an attractive way to reuse the treated LMRs. However, the safe dose for soil amendment remains unclear. In this study, a lab-scale incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of the amendment dosage on lincomycin resistance genes and soil bacterial communities via quantitative PCR and 16S rRNA sequencing. The results showed that introduced lincomycin degraded quickly in soil and became undetectable after 50 days. Degradation rate of the high amendment amount (100 mg kg-1) was almost 4 times faster than that of low amendment amount (10 mg kg-1). Moreover, the introduced LMRs induced the increase of lincomycin resistance genes after incubation for 8 days, and two genes (lmrA and lnuB) showed a dosage-related increase. For example, the abundance of gene lmrA was 17.78, 74.13 and 128.82 copies g-1 soil for lincomycin concentration of 10, 50 and 100 mg kg-1, respectively. However, the abundance of lincomycin resistance genes recovered to the control level as the incubation period extended to 50 days, indicating a low persistence in soil. In addition, LMRs application markedly shifted the bacterial composition and significant difference was found between control soil, 10 mg kg-1 and 50 mg kg-1 lincomycin amended soil. Actually, several genera bacteria were significantly related to the elevation of lincomycin resistance genes. These results provided a comprehensive understanding of the effects of lincomycin dosage on the fate of resistance genes and microbial communities in LMRs applied soil.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of the study was to explore the dose-effect relationship between dose-volume histogram parameters and clinical prognosis of definitive radio(chemo)therapy followed by intracavitary/interstitial brachytherapy in locally advanced cervical cancer. METHODS AND MATERIALS A retrospective analysis was performed on 110 patients with locally advanced cervical cancer who underwent external beam radiotherapy combined with intracavitary/interstitial brachytherapy with or without chemotherapy from July 2010 to September 2018. We reported D100, D98, and D90 for high-risk clinical target volume (HR-CTV) and intermediate-risk clinical target volume, D2cm³ for organs at risk. Multivariate Cox regression was used to screen independent factors. Dose-volume parameters screened by the Cox regression were incorporated into the probit model for investigating its relationship with survival. RESULTS The median followup time was 72.33 months. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that HR-CTV D100, HR-CTV D98, and HR-CTV D90 were independent factors, affecting the 5-year overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and local control (LC) rates. The probit model showed that HR-CTV D98 had predictive values for the 5-year OS, CSS, and LC, and HR-CTV D100 had predictive values for the 5-year OS, CSS, whereas HR-CTV D90 had a predictive value only for the 5-year OS. The HR-CTV D98 corresponding to OS ED90, CSS ED90, and LC ED90 was 86.8, 85.6, and 78.6 Gy, respectively. CONCLUSIONS A significant dependence of OS, CSS, and LC on D98 for HR-CTV was found. When the long-term OS, CSS, and LC rate of the patient was >90%, HR-CTV D98 > 86.8 Gy EQD2, 85.6 Gy EQD2, and 78.6 Gy EQD2 were required.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to establish a pharmacodynamic model to quantitatively compare the efficacy characteristics of seven kinds of triptans and their different dosage forms in the treatment of acute migraines. METHODS Clinical studies of triptans in the treatment of acute migraines were comprehensively searched in the public databases. Pharmacodynamic models were established to describe the dose-effect and time-course of each kind of triptan for the proportion of patients who became pain free or had pain relief. RESULTS A total of 92 articles involving 47,376 subjects were included in the analysis. After eliminating the placebo effect, oral eletriptan (40 mg) had the highest efficacy among all oral drugs at the maximum approved dose, and the proportion of patients who became pain free and had pain relief were 30.9% and 37.9% at 2 h, respectively. However, oral naratriptan (2.5 mg) had the lowest efficacy, and the proportion of patients who became pain free and had pain relief was 10.3% and 21.6% at 2 h, respectively. The efficacy of subcutaneous administration was significantly higher than that of oral administration, and the efficacy of nasal spray administration was comparable to that of oral administration. Regarding the dose-effect, the efficacy of the sumatriptan nasal spray significantly increased within the FDA (Food and Drug Administration)-approved dose range. When the dose was increased from 5 to 20 mg of sumatriptan nasal spray, the proportion of patients who became pain free and had pain relief increased by 16.8% and 18.3% at 2 h, respectively. Regarding the time-course, the time of onset of subcutaneous sumatriptan (6 mg) was the fastest, and the fraction of patients who were pain free at 2 h accounted for 90.6% of that at 4 h. CONCLUSIONS This study evaluated the efficacy characteristics of seven kinds of triptans and their different dosage forms. The present findings provide necessary quantitative information for migraine medication guidelines.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychiatric disorders are highly prevalent and associated with great symptomatic, functional, and health economic burdens. Psychotherapy is among the recommended and used interventions for most psychiatric disorders and is becoming widely accessible in mental health systems. The effects of specific forms of psychotherapy (e.g., psychodynamic therapies, cognitive and behavioral therapies, humanistic therapies, and systemic therapies) have been assessed previously in systematic reviews, but the appropriate psychotherapy duration for psychiatric disorders has not been reviewed. The aim of this systematic review will be to synthesize the evidence of the effects of short-term compared with long-term psychotherapy for all adult psychiatric disorders. METHODS/DESIGN A comprehensive search for relevant published literature will be undertaken in Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Excerpta Medica database (EMBASE), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), PsycINFO, Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Conference Proceedings Citation Index-Science (CPCI-S), and Conference Proceedings Citation Index-Social Science & Humanities (CPCI-SSH) to identify relevant trials. We will search all databases from their inception to the present. We will include randomized clinical trials comparing a short-term and a long-term version of the same psychotherapy type for adult psychiatric disorders including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, psychotic disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders (as defined by standardized diagnostic criteria). We will rely on the trialists defining their compared interventions as short term and long term (or similar terminology). Primary outcomes will be quality of life, serious adverse events, and symptom severity. Secondary outcomes will be suicide or suicide attempts, self-harm, and level of functioning. Two review authors will independently extract data and perform risk of bias assessment using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. A meta-analysis will be performed as recommended by the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Review of Interventions, bias will be assessed with domains, and Trial Sequential Analysis will be conducted to control random errors. Certainty of the evidence will be assessed by GRADE. DISCUSSION As psychotherapy is among the treatments of choice for most adult psychiatric disorders, a systematic review evaluating the benefits and harms of short-term compared with long-term psychotherapy is urgently needed. It is the hope that this review will be able to inform best practice in treatment and clinical research of these highly prevalent and burdensome disorders. Abstract
With the increasing installation of wind farms, the attention of citizens towards wind turbine noise (WTN) has grown. Differently from some national legislations, the scientific community has promptly responded, increasing the studies and the social surveys in order to better understand the cause of disturbance and the indicators that relate to it. At first, the paper underlines the importance of low WTN levels for indirect health effects such as sleep disturbance and annoyance. The importance to consider noise annoyance in legislation is also discussed, as WTN is more disturbing than other most common noise sources. Then, conversion curves for equally highly annoyed are introduced considering the annoyance perceived by population in relation with the type of source. Finally, a specific limit value of 43 dB(A) for WTN is derived and suggested, comparable with British and Danish standards.

Abstract
Stroke is a disease related to high mortality and morbidity, particularly in developing countries. Some studies have linked self-reported indoor and outdoor pollution to stroke and mini-stroke, while some others showed no association. Our objective was to assess this association in Lebanon, a Middle Eastern developing country. A national cross-sectional study was conducted all over Lebanon. In addition to self-reported items of pollution exposure, we assessed potential predictors of stroke and mini-stroke, including sociodemographic characteristics, self-reported health information, and biological measurements. Moreover, we assessed dose-effect relationship of pollution items in relation with stroke. Self-reported indoor pollution exposure was associated with stroke and mini-stroke, with or without taking biological values into account. Moreover, we found a dose-effect relationship of exposure with risk of disease, but this effect did not reach statistical significance after adjustment for sociodemographics and biological characteristics. No association was found for any outdoor pollution item. Although additional studies would be necessary to confirm these findings, sensitizing the population about the effect of pollution on chronic diseases, working on reducing pollution, and improving air quality should be implemented to decrease the burden of the disease on the population and health system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The recommendations in clinical guidelines for duration of therapy for alcohol use disorder (AUD) are based on consensus decisions. In reality, we do not know the optimal duration of an alcohol treatment course. METHODS A systematic review and meta-regression of randomized controlled trials of psychosocial treatment in alcohol outpatient treatment centers. The population consisted of adults suffering from AUD, treated in an outpatient facility with at least two sessions of therapy. Meta-regression analysis was performed with treatment outcome as a function of duration of therapy across studies. Treatment outcome was defined as long-term alcohol use measured in percentage of days abstinent (PDA), percentage of heavy days drinking (PHD), and/or proportion of participants abstinent (ABS). RESULTS 48 studies encompassing 8984 participants. Mean planned duration of therapy: 18 (8-82) weeks and 14 (2-36) sessions. Mean actual attended sessions: 9 (1-26). Mean follow-up time: 43 (8-104) weeks with a mean of 6 (2-18) research assessments. Neither planned weeks, duration of sessions, frequency of sessions per week, nor actual attended sessions were associated with long-term alcohol use outcomes. However, frequency of research assessments was positively associated with PDA and PHD. CONCLUSION No associations between long-term alcohol use outcomes and planned or actual attended duration of psychosocial treatment in outpatient care. Research assessments and, accordingly, the research project in itself may influence outcome in studies of psychosocial treatment for alcohol use disorder.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of gout on the risk of developing coronary artery disease (CAD) is uncertain. Some studies have found that gout is a risk factor for acute myocardial infarction. This study examined the changes in risk of CAD in gout patients taking allopurinol and/or benzbromarone, and analyzed the dose-response relationship of both drugs with CAD incidence. METHODS The medical records of one million subjects from 2000 to 2011 were provided by the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. Cox proportional hazard ratio was used to compare the risk of CAD in gout patients taking allopurinol or/and benzbromarone with those taking neither drug. Hazard ratios (HR) were adjusted for possible confounding factors, including age, gender, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and relevant medications. RESULTS Of 8047 gout patients, 1422 were treated with allopurinol (Group A), 4141 with benzbromarone (Group B), and 2484 with both drugs (Group A/B) during the follow-up period. Our results showed the incidence of CAD after adjusting for covariates for Group A, Group B, and Group A/B did not significantly differ from the comparison group. However, after adjustment for covariates in dose-response analyses, treatment with over 270 defined daily doses (DDDs) of allopurinol, and over 360 DDDs of benzbromarone, was associated with a significantly reduced risk of CAD. CONCLUSION We found that the use of allopurinol and benzbromarone, whether alone or in combination, had a linear dose-response relationship between the numbers of defined daily doses and the risk of CAD, especially in higher DDDs.

Abstract
Perinatal hypoxia-ischemia is a major cause of striatal injury and may lead to cerebral palsy. This study investigated whether delayed administration of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), at one week after neonatal rat hypoxia-ischemia, was neurorestorative of striatal medium-spiny projection neurons and improved motor function. The effect of a subcutaneous injection of a high-dose, or a low-dose, of MSCs was investigated in stereological studies. Postnatal day (PN) 7 pups were subjected to hypoxia-ischemia. At PN14, pups received treatment with either MSCs or diluent. A subset of high-dose pups, and their diluent control pups, were also injected intraperitoneally with bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU), every 24h, on PN15, PN16 and PN17. This permitted tracking of the migration and survival of neuroblasts originating from the subventricular zone into the adjacent injured striatum. Pups were euthanized on PN21 and the absolute number of striatal medium-spiny projection neurons was measured after immunostaining for DARPP-32 (dopamine- and cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein-32), double immunostaining for BrdU and DARPP-32, and after cresyl violet staining alone. The absolute number of striatal immunostained calretinin interneurons was also measured. There was a statistically significant increase in the absolute number of DARPP-32-positive, BrdU/DARPP-32-positive, and cresyl violet-stained striatal medium-spiny projection neurons, and fewer striatal calretinin interneurons, in the high-dose mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) group compared to their diluent counterparts. A high-dose of MSCs restored the absolute number of these neurons to normal uninjured levels, when compared with previous stereological data on the absolute number of cresyl violet-stained striatal medium-spiny projection neurons in the normal uninjured brain. For the low-dose experiment, in which cresyl violet-stained striatal medium-spiny neurons alone were measured, there was a lower statistically significant increase in their absolute number in the MSC group compared to their diluent controls. Investigation of behavior in another cohort of animals showed that delayed administration of a high-dose of bone marrow-derived MSCs, at one week after neonatal rat hypoxia-ischemia, improved motor function on the cylinder test. Thus, delayed therapy with a high- or low-dose of adult MSCs, at one week after injury, is effective in restoring the loss of striatal medium-spiny projection neurons after neonatal rat hypoxia-ischemia and a high-dose of MSCs improved motor function.

Abstract
This study was carried out to evaluate the dose-effects of ingestion of Maharishi Amrit Kalash 4 (MAK 4), an ayurvedic food supplement, on the immune function in female inbred BALB/c mice. Superoxide anion (O(2)) production of peritoneal macrophages and the response of spleen cells to concanavalin A (Con A) were examined in mice given MAK 4 by gastric intubation of an aqueous emulsion at the dose of 10, 50, 100 or 200 mg/kg once a day for 20 days. Glucose consumption of peritoneal macrophage in the MAK 4-treated mice at the doses of 10 and 50 mg/kg after not only 24-hour but also 48-hour incubations were significantly high compared with the control group. Glucose consumption of peritoneal macrophages in the MAK 4-treated mice at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg after 48 hours of incubation were significantly lower than that of the control group. O(2) production in the absence of a stimulator was significantly enhanced in the MAK 4-treated groups at the doses of 10 and 50 mg/kg. On the other hand, O(2) production in the presence of a stimulator was significantly high in the MAK 4-treated groups at the doses of 10 and 50 mg/kg, and was significantly low in the MAK 4-treated groups at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg compared with that in the control group. Activities of acid phosphatase in the peritoneal macrophages were significantly low in the MAK 4-treated groups at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg compared with those in the control group. Activities of β -glucuronidase (GLU) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in the peritoneal macrophages were significantly increased in the MAK 4-treated mice at the doses of 10 and 50 mg/kg. GLU and LDH activities of peritoneal macrophages in the MAK 4-treated mice at the doses of 100 and 200 mg /kg were significantly low compared with those in the control group. MAK 4 did not enhance spontaneous splenic lymphocyte proliferation at any dose in mice. Stimulation indices in the MAK 4-treated groups at all doses were significantly higher than those of the control group. These results indicate that 10 and 50 mg/kg per day might be appropriate doses to enhance not only macrophage function but also lymphocyte responsiveness for the gastric intubation of MAK 4 in mice.

Abstract
AIM: To determine the optimal dosage and mechanism of Ginkgolide B (BN52021) on severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) of rats.
METHODS: Seventy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into seven groups (10 for each group). Sham-operation group (SO), SAP model group (SAP), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) contrast group (DMSO), and groups treated with 2.5 mg/kg BN52021 (BN1), 5 mg/kg BN52021 (BN2), 10 mg/kg BN52021 (BN3), and 20 μg/kg Sandostatin (SS). The SAP model was established in Wistar rats by injecting 5% sodium taurocholate retrogradely into the common bilio-pancreatic duct. The rats of SO, DMSO and BN52021 were injected with 0.9% NaCl, 0.5% DMSO and BN52021 through femoral vein 15 min after the operation. The SS group was injected with Sandostatin subcutaneously. All rats were anaesthetized at 6 h after operation, and venous blood was collected to determine the levels of serum amylase and phospholipase A2 (PLA2), and pancreas tissue was harvested and stained.
RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the SAP and DMSO groups in serum amylase level, PLA2, ascites and pathologic score, but significant difference was found in SAP/DMSO groups compared with those in SO group (P < 0.05) and the levels of serum amylase, PLA2, ascites, and pathologic score were lower in the BN1, BN2, BN3 and SS groups than in the SAP and DMSO groups (P < 0.05). However, among BN1, BN2, BN3 and SS groups, BN2 had the best effect in decreasing the levels of serum amylase and PLA2 (P < 0.05). Expression of platelet activating factor (PAF) receptor (PAFR) mRNA and protein showed no significant difference between the SAP and DMSO groups, or among BN1, BN2, BN3 and SS groups, but there was remarkable difference between SAP/DMSO group and SO group (P < 0.05), and expression of PAFR mRNA and protein was higher in the BN1, BN2, BN3 and SS groups than in the SAP and DMSO groups (P < 0.05). PAFR expression was observed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of pancreatic islet cells in Wistar rats by immunohistochemistry.
CONCLUSION: By iv injection, 5 mg/kg of BN52021 is the optimal dosage for SAP rats. BN52021 may inhibit the interaction/binding of PAF with PAFR.
