Abstract
OBJECTIVE To understand the status and influencing factors of Kyrgyz chronic disease prevention literacy, and to explore the impact of chronic disease prevention literacy on behavior and living habits. METHOD Using stratified sampling method, Kyrgyz residents aged ≥ 18 years in Artush City, Aheqi County and Ucha County were surveyed by questionnaire. RESULTS A total of 10,468 subjects were investigated, and the literacy rate of chronic disease prevention in Kyrgyz was 11.2%. The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that the literacy rate of chronic disease prevention was low among people with low education level, herdsmen, low income, urban and chronic disease (P < 0.05). Residents with chronic disease prevention literacy were more inclined to not smoke, not drink alcohol, drink milk every day, eat soy products every month, eat whole grains every day (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION The literacy level of chronic disease prevention of Kyrgyz residents in Kezhou has been improved, but it is still at a low level compared with another subcategories. The behavioral lifestyle is related to the literacy level of chronic disease prevention. Therefore, local health promotion strategies should be developed to improve the literacy level of chronic disease prevention and promote the formation of good behavioral and living habits.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Xinjiang plays a vital role in the trans-Eurasian population migration, language diffusion, and culture and technology exchange. However, the underrepresentation of Xinjiang's genomes has hindered a more comprehensive understanding of Xinjiang's genetic structure and population history. MATERIALS AND METHODS We collected and genotyped 70 southern Xinjiang's Kyrgyz (SXJK) individuals and combined the data with modern and ancient Eurasians published. We used allele-frequency methods, including PCA, ADMIXTURE, f-statistics, qpWave/qpAdm, ALDER, Treemix, and haplotype-shared methods including shared-IBD segments, fineSTRUCTURE, and GLOBETROTTER to unveil the fine-scale population structure and reconstruct admixture history. RESULTS We identified genetic substructure within the SXJK population with subgroups showing different genetic affinities to West and East Eurasians. All SXJK subgroups were suggested to have close genetic relationships with surrounding Turkic-speaking groups that is, Uyghur, Kyrgyz from north Xinjiang and Tajikistan, and Chinese Kazakh, suggesting a shared ancestry among those populations. Outgroup-f3 and symmetrical f4 statistics showed a high genetic affinity of SXJK to present-day Tungusic, Mongolic-speaking populations and Ancient Northeast Asian (ANA) related groups. Allele sharing and haplotype sharing profiles revealed the east-west admixture pattern of SXJK. The qpAdm-based admixture models showed that SXJK derived ancestry from East Eurasian (ANA and East Asian, 42.7%-83.3%) and West Eurasian (Western Steppe herders and Central Asian, 16.7%-57.3%), the recent east-west admixture event could be traced to 1000 years ago based on ALDER and GLOBETROTTER analysis. DISCUSSION The high genetic affinity of SXJK to present-day Tungusic and Mongolic-speaking populations and short-shared IBD segments indicated their shared common ancestry. SXJK harbored a close genetic affinity to ANA-related populations, indicating the Northeast Asian origin of SXJK. The West and East Eurasian admixture models observed in SXJK further provided evidence of the dynamic admixture history in Xinjiang. The east-west admixture pattern and the identified ancestral makeup of SXJK suggested a genetic continuity from some Iron Age Xinjiang populations to present-day SXJK.

Abstract
The diversity of Central Asians has been shaped by multiple migrations and cultural diffusion. Although ancient DNA studies have revealed the demographic changes of the Central Asian since the Bronze Age, the contribution of the ancient populations to the modern Central Asian remains opaque. Herein, we performed high-coverage sequencing of 131 whole genomes of Indo-European-speaking Tajik and Turkic-speaking Kyrgyz populations to explore their genomic diversity and admixture history. By integrating the ancient DNA data, we revealed more details of the origins and admixture history of Central Asians. We found that the major ancestry of present-day Tajik populations can be traced back to the admixture of the Bronze Age Bactria–Margiana Archaeological Complex and Andronovo-related populations. Highland Tajik populations further received additional gene flow from the Tarim mummies, an isolated ancient North Eurasian–related population. The West Eurasian ancestry of Kyrgyz is mainly derived from Historical Era populations in Xinjiang of China. Furthermore, the recent admixture signals detected in both Tajik and Kyrgyz are ascribed to the expansions of Eastern Steppe nomadic pastoralists during the Historical Era.

Abstract
Ancestry informative markers have extensive uses and advantages in inferring ancestral origins and estimating ancestral genetic information components of admixed populations. With the characteristics of highly cultural exchange and the admixed genetic structure of the Kyrgyz group, it is essential to enrich the genetic data of the Kyrgyz group. In this study, we used a self-developed ancestry informative marker-deletion/insertion polymorphic (AIM-DIP) panel to explore ancestral components of Chinese Kyrgyz group and population genetic relationships between the Kyrgyz group and reference populations. Results showed that all AIM-DIP loci were conformed to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. There were 36 AIM-DIP loci that contributed significantly to genetic information inference. Multiple statistical analyses revealed that Chinese Kyrgyz group had a closer genetic relationship with Chinese Uyghur group. The ancestral components of the Kyrgyz group, being mostly composed of genetic components of European and East Asian populations, were more similar to the ancestral components of Chinese Uyghur group.

Abstract
Background/Aims: Long-term high altitude residence leads to a sustained increase in pulmonary vascular resistance and elevation of pulmonary artery pressure due to chronic alveolar hypoxia. However, living at high altitude is also associated with other environmental factors such as cold. There is still little experimental evidence suggesting detrimental effects of low temperatures on the pulmonary vasculature. Therefore, our objective was to investigate acute effects of cold exposure on the pulmonary circulation in Kyrgyz high altitude natives. Methods: Responses of the pulmonary circulation during acute exposure to controlled cold conditions (4°C-6°C) for 60 minutes were measured in highlanders using Doppler echocardiography. Based on the Doppler echocardiography-derived tricuspid regurgitant systolic pressure gradient (TRG), subjects with TRG ≥40 mmHg were allocated into the pulmonary hypertension (PH) group. Participants from the PH group were compared with volunteer control subjects with TRG <40 mmHg. All baseline measurements were evaluated in a warm room during 60 minutes (22°C-28°C). Following baseline echocardiography, the subjects were assigned to either warm or cold exposure for an additional 60 minutes. Results: Acute cold exposure significantly increased TRG both in the control (ΔTRG, 4.93 mmHg) and in the PH (ΔTRG, 8.15 mmHg) group, compared to the respective warm exposure conditions (ΔTRG, -0.14 and -0.05 mmHg). No changes in cardiac output were observed upon cold exposure. Conclusion: Thus, acute exposure to cold leads to elevation of pulmonary artery pressure in high altitude residents.

Abstract
Chronic hypoxia causes sustained pulmonary vasoconstriction and vascular remodeling leading to development of pulmonary hypertension in high-altitude residents. Although pulmonary hypertension is of mild to moderate degrees in most cases, some high-altitude residents may develop severe pulmonary hypertension. We report a case of a 47-year-old female highlander of Kyrgyz ethnicity who presented with exertional breathlessness and echocardiographic signs of severe pulmonary hypertension, who was diagnosed as having chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented case of severe CTEPH in a high-altitude dweller. This case illustrates that causes other than hypoxia may underlie and/or contribute to severe pulmonary hypertension in residents of high altitude.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is known that atherosclerosis is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease. We aimed to study the correlation between components of metabolic syndrome (MS) and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in a group of ethnic Kyrgyzs. METHODS In а descriptive study we assessed 144 ethnic Kyrgyzs (69 males, 75 females) aged 36-73 years (average age 51.03 ± 8.2). All participants underwent a clinical investigation and an anthropometric evaluation (weight, height, waist circumference (WC)). Abdominal obesity (АО) was confirmed at WC ≥ 94 cm in males and ≥ 88 cm in females. Fasting plasma glucose and lipid spectrum tests were performed. An ultrasound assessment of carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) was performed using a 7.5 MHz transducer (Phillips-SD 800). RESULTS MS was revealed in 61 (42.4%; 47.8% in men and 37.3% in women) of the investigated patients. IMT was significantly increased with the presence of MS components in males (no components vs 2 components of MS: 0.67 ± 0.007 and 0.81 ± 0.009 respectively; р < 0.05) and females (no components vs 3 components of MS: 0.63 ± 0.007 and 0.76 ± 0.01 respectively; р < 0.01). IMT trended towards an increase in the presence of a greater number of MS components in patients with and without AO (р < 0.01). In order to identify independent factors affecting IMT we carried out a multifactorial logistic regression analysis. Arterial hypertension was found to have the greatest influence on the development of MS (OR = 3.81, p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION In the group of ethnic Kyrgyzs, a greater number of MS components, with AO or without AO, is associated with higher carotid IMT.

A case of subacute infantile mountain sickness in a Kyrgyz child. High Alt Med Biol. 19:208-210, 2018.-Subacute infantile mountain sickness (SIMS) is a syndrome of severe pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure that develops in infants born in the lowlands and subsequently brought to live at high altitudes. Earlier postmortem studies have demonstrated significant remodeling of small pulmonary arteries as well as right ventricular hypertrophy and dilatation. In this report, we present a case of SIMS in a Kyrgyz child born to a native highlander mother evaluated by conventional echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging. An echocardiogram showed severe pulmonary hypertension, a markedly dilated right ventricle with flattening of interventricular septum, and right ventricular dysfunction. To our knowledge, this is the first report of noninvasive imaging of pulmonary circulation and right ventricle in an infant with SIMS and confirmed the diagnosis using echocardiography.

Abstract
Pharmacogenomic variant information is well known for major human populations; however, this information is less commonly studied in minorities. In the present study, we genotyped 85 very important pharmacogenetic (VIP) variants (selected from the PharmGKB database) in the Kyrgyz population and compared our data with other four major human populations including Han Chinese in Beijing, China (CHB), the Japanese in Tokyo, Japan (JPT), a northern and western Europe population (CEU), and the Yoruba in Ibadan, Nigeria (YRI). There were 13, 12 and 16 of the selected VIP variant genotype frequencies in the Kyrgyz which differed from those of the CHB, JPT and CEU, respectively (p<0.005). In the YRI, there were 32 different variants, compared to the Kyrgyz (p<0.005). Genotype frequencies of ADH1B, AHR, CYP3A5, PTGS2, VDR, and VKORC1 in the Kyrgyz differed widely from those in the four populations. Haplotype analyses also showed differences among the Kyrgyz and the other four populations. Our results complement the information provided by the database of pharmacogenomics on Kyrgyz. We provide a theoretical basis for safer drug administration and individualized treatment plans for the Kyrgyz. We also provide a template for the study of pharmacogenomics in various ethnic minority groups in China.
