Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate topical nepafenac drops (TND) effect on retinal vasculature following uneventful phacoemulsification. METHODS 54 eyes were randomly assigned to G1: TND 3 days preoperatively and 1 month postoperatively; G2: TND for 1 month postoperatively; and G3 no TND (control). BCVA, macular OCTA were compared baseline, 1 week and 1 month. RESULTS No statistically significant differences found between 3 groups in OCTA parameters during study visits. However, at 1 month (compared to baseline) there were a statistically significant increase in superficial capillary plexus (SCP) capillary vessel density (CVD) in G2 (p=0.036); increase in central foveal thickness (CFT) in G2 (p=0.011) and G3 (control) (p=0.001); and reduced number of patients with SCP disorganization in G2 (p=0.04). There were no significant correlation/association between most of OCTA parameters and final BCVA. CONCLUSION TND use perioperative did not show any effect on retinal OCTA microvasculature and might affect macular edema by other mechanisms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim is to evaluate subclinical alterations of macular microvasculature in patients with juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (JSLE). METHODS This is a cross-sectional study of 29 eyes of 29 patients diagnosed with JSLE and 29 eyes of 29 healthy controls. The vessel density (VD) of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), intermediate capillary plexus (ICP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), choriocapillaris (CC), and area of foveal avascular zone (FAZ) was measured using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). A multiple linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the effects of disease duration and activity on OCTA parameters. RESULTS The VD of total (p = .007) and the superior (p = .014) and inferior (p = .004) quadrants in SCP was significantly lower in children with JSLE. The VD of total and all quadrants in ICP decreased (p = .015, p = .0045, p = .015, p = .033), except that of the temporal quadrant (p = .366). The total (p = .011) and superior quadrant (p<.01) DCP-VD showed a significant decrease in children with JSLE. The decrease in VD in the total (p = .003) and nasal quadrant (p = .017) of CC was also remarkable. No significant difference in the FAZ area was found between the two groups (p = .774). Multiple linear regression analyses adjusted for age, spherical equivalent, and intraocular pressure were conducted. No contributing factor to OCTA parameters was found. CONCLUSIONS We demonstrated decreased VD in all layers of the retina and CC in patients with JSLE without ocular involvement. Early screening and close follow-up were recommended.

Abstract
AIM To detect retinal microvascular variations in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients. METHODS This prospective, observational case-control study included healthy controls and patients with mild, moderate, and severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Vascular parameters, foveal avascular area, and flow areas in macula-centered, 6.00×6.00 mm2 scan size optical coherence tomography angiography images were compared. RESULTS The control group had the highest whole image, parafoveal, and perifoveal vessel density among the groups in both superficial and the deep capillary plexus (all P<0.05). Rapid eye movement sleep apnoea-hypopnoea index was reversely correlated with whole (Rho=-0.195, P=0.034), parafoveal (Rho=-0.242, P=0.008), perifoveal (Rho=-0.187, P=0.045) vessel density in the superficial capillary plexus, and whole (Rho=-0.186, P=0.046), parafoveal (Rho=-0.260, P=0.004), perifoveal (Rho=-0.189, P=0.043) vessel density in the deep capillary plexus, though the mean and non-rapid eye movement sleep apnoea-hypopnoea index related with only parafoveal vessel density in the superficial capillary plexus (Rho=-0.213, P=0.020; Rho=-0.191, P=0.038) and the deep capillary plexus (Rho=-0.254, P=0.005; Rho=-0.194, P=0.035). CONCLUSION This study shows decreased vessel density and its reverse correlation with the apnoea-hypopnoea index in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

Abstract
Background In this study, we aimed to evaluate optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) parameters among Indian patients affected with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). Methodology A cross-sectional study on Indian patients having unilateral or bilateral affection with CSCR was conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology, Guru Nanak Eye Centre, and Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. A history of ocular symptoms such as a diminution of vision, metamorphopsia, decreased contrast sensitivity (CS), and defective color vision (CV) and their duration were obtained. A detailed ocular examination for best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), CV, and CS was done. Following this, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) were performed. OCT was done for central foveal thickness (CFT), subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT), neurosensory detachment (NSD), pigment epithelial detachment (PED), and choroidal neovascular membranes (CNVMs). The OCTA imaging was done to examine the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) size, perimeter and circularity, vessel density (VD), and features such as enlarged/distorted FAZ, dark areas, dark spots, abnormal vessels, and choriocapillaris island (CCI) in the retino-choroidal layers. We compared the OCTA features of affected eyes with those of fellow eyes. Results The study involved 52 eyes of 40 CSCR patients, including 32 (80%) males and eight (20%) females with a mean age of 39.3 ± 6.1 (24-49) years. Of the 40 patients, 12 (30%) had a bilateral involvement. The mean CFT was 300.3 ± 158.4 µ, and the SFCT was 258.5 ± 60.4 µ. The mean distance BCVA was the logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) 0.58 ± 0.32. The OCTA showed features such as enlarged/distorted FAZ (36.53% eyes), dark areas (NSD/PED) (84.61% eyes), dark spots (PED) (5.76% eyes), abnormal vessels (dilated vessels/CNVM) (96.15% eyes), and CCI (17.30% eyes). The mean FAZ area, perimeter, and circularity were 0.40 ± 0.71 mm2, 41.8 ± 280.0 mm, and 0.48 ± 0.12, respectively. The VD in the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) was 25.4 ± 14.1, deep capillary plexus (DCP) 15.0 ± 11.5, outer retina (OR) 5.9 ± 6.8, outer retinal choriocapillaris (ORCC) 33.7 ± 16.9, choriocapillaris 29.7 ± 17.5, and choroid 29.9 ± 17.5. The fellow eyes showed a mean FAZ area, perimeter, and circularity of 0.34 ± 0.23 mm2, 76.8 ± 391.2 mm, and 0.47 ± 0.11, respectively, while VD of SCP was 25.9 ± 13.6, DCP 16.5 ± 11.7, OR 14.3 ± 14.9, ORCC 38.0 ± 16.5, choriocapillaris 36.3 ± 17.7, and choroid 35.5 ± 19.2. Conclusions The CSCR eyes had a thicker fovea and sub-foveal choroid (SFC). The FAZ area of affected eyes was larger, while the perimeter was smaller than that in the fellow eye. In the affected eye, the VD in all the retino-choroidal layers was lower, although it was significantly reduced in OR whole (p = 0.006) and foveal choroid (p = 0.022).

Abstract
Purpose: We aimed to analyze retinal microvascular parameters, measured by optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis compared to healthy individuals. Materials and Methods: A total of 41 eyes from 30 patients who had varying degrees of carotid stenosis, and 42 eyes from 42 healthy controls, were enrolled in this study. Depending on the degree of stenosis evaluated by Doppler ultrasonographic imaging, the patient group was further subclassified into mild, moderate, and severe carotid artery stenosis. Superficial and deep capillary plexus vessel densities, radial peripapillary capillary vessel density, foveal avascular zone, and flow densities in the choriocapillaris and outer retina were evaluated by optical coherence tomography angiography. Results: The superficial and deep capillary plexus vessel densities were significantly reduced among the groups, only sparing the foveal region. The mean superficial plexus vessel density was 45.67 ± 4.65 and 50.09 ± 4.05 for the patient and control group, respectively (p = 0.000). The mean deep capillary plexus density was 46.33% ± 7.31% and 53.27% ± 6.31% for the patient and control group, respectively (p = 0.000). The mean superficial and deep capillary vessel densities in the foveal region did not show any statistical difference between the patient and control groups (p = 0.333 for the superficial and p = 0.195 for the deep plexus vessel density). Radial peripapillary capillary vessel density was decreased in the patient group (p = 0.004). The foveal avascular zone area was wider in the patient group but this difference did not show a significant difference (p = 0.385). Conclusions: Retinal microvascular changes are a prominent outcome of internal carotid disease, and even mild stenosis can lead to alterations in the retinal microvascular bed which could be detected by OCTA. By early detection of microvascular changes in the retina in this patient group, we might speculate the overall vascular condition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Manual segmentation of the Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) has a high level of variability. Research into retinas needs coherent segmentation sets with low variability. METHODS Retinal optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images from type-1 diabetes mellitus (DM1), type-2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) and healthy patients were included. Superficial (SCP) and deep (DCP) capillary plexus FAZs were manually segmented by different observers. After comparing the results, a new criterion was established to reduce variability in the segmentations. The FAZ area and acircularity were also studied. RESULTS The new segmentation criterion produces smaller areas (closer to the real FAZ) with lower variability than the different criteria of the explorers in both plexuses for the three groups. This was particularly noticeable for the DM2 group with damaged retinas. The acircularity values were also slightly reduced with the final criterion in all groups. The FAZ areas with lower values showed slightly higher acircularity values. We also have a consistent and coherent set of segmentations with which to continue our research. CONCLUSIONS Manual segmentations of FAZ are generally carried out with little attention to the consistency of the measurements. A novel criterion for segmenting the FAZ allows segmentations made by different observers to be more similar.

Abstract
AIM We aim to find an association between neovascularization (NVn) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) parameters in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). METHODS In a prospective study, 41 subjects including 28 (68%) males and 13 (32%) females having PDR were examined for neovascularization disc (NVD) and neovascularization elsewhere (NVE) clinically and with fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA). A total of 79 eyes were found to be involved. We examined OCTA parameters including foveal avascular zone (FAZ) size, perimeter and circularity, and vessel density (VD) in the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), outer retina (OR), outer retinal chorio-capillaries (ORCC), chorio-capillaries (CC), and choroid (C) in these subjects. RESULTS In eyes with NVD, the central foveal thickness (CFT) (p=0.83) and sub-foveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) (p=0.08) were higher, the FAZ area was significantly larger (p=0.005), and the VD was lower in all retino-choroidal layers. However, it was significantly lower in SCP foveal (p=0.005) and ORCC foveal (p=0.05) than in eyes not having NVD. For NVE, the CFT (p=0.03) and SFCT (p=0.01) were more in affected eyes. The eyes without NVE had a better circularity index (p=0.07) and the highest VD in OR slab (p=0.02) than those eyes that had NVE < ½ disc area (DA) and NVE > ½ DA. On comparing eyes without NVE, NVE < ½ DA, and NVE > ½ DA, the latest had the highest VD in SCP (p=0.59) and lowest VD in DCP (p=0.43) and OR (p=0.02). The VD in ORCC, CC, and choroid was highest in the no NVE group, followed by the NVE > ½ DA and NVE < ½ DA groups in that order. The subjects having vitreous hemorrhage (VH) and intra-retinal microvascular abnormalities (IRMA) had higher values for CFT and SFCT than eyes without these. CONCLUSIONS An increased CFT and SFCT are associated with the appearance of NVD, NVE, VH, and IRMA. The presence of NVD, VH, and IRMA is associated with a larger FAZ area, while that of IRMA and NVE is associated with reduced FAZ circularity. Eyes with NVD, VH, and IRMA had lesser VD in all the retino-choroidal layers. Eyes with NVE > ½ DA had the highest VD in SCP and lowest in DCP and OR; this pattern of VD foretells severer affection in NVE. IRMA was associated with a larger FAZ area, larger FAZ perimeter, and lesser circularity, indicating the presence of central ischemia.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate possible vascular changes in pediatric patients infected with COVID-19 and to compare these with an age-matched control group. METHODS All patients underwent an ocular assessment and optical coherence tomography angiography examination. Two vascular networks were analyzed as the superficial and deep regions. RESULTS Evaluation was made of 40 eyes of 20 patients who had recently recovered from COVID infection and 80 eyes of 40 healthy individuals. The DCP-VD values of the COVID group were significantly lower than the control group in most quadrants. The FAZ PERIM and FAZ area values in the COVID patients were higher than the control group, but not statistically significant (p>.05). CONCLUSION Pediatric cases of COVID-19 may differ from adults based on structural and immune response differences, and that OCTA can be a noninvasive guide for analysis of the end-organ effects of pediatric COVID disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE Evaluate optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) features in retinal vein occlusions (RVO) associated with visual outcomes after anti-VEGF. METHODS Analytical observational study performed in eyes with macular edema secondary to RVO treated with anti-VEGF, with at least 6 months of follow-up. Bradley et al. classification of macular ischemia was used. Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate associations between final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and OCT-A. RESULTS A total of 62 eyes, 61 subjects, mean age of 70 ± 12,6 years were included. Median follow up time 21,2 months (IQR 24.8), 53,2% had central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and 46,8% branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Median BCVA pre-treatment was 0,84 logMAR (IQR 0,83) and post-treatment 0,47 logMAR (IQR 0,52). BCVA improved at the end of follow-up (p = 0,01), as well as central retinal thickness (CRT) (p = 0,02). Regarding capillary densities (CD), there was a decrease for both plexus, Superficial CD (p = 0,01) and Deep CD (p = 0,01), being more involved the superficial plexus. The lower the capillary density in both plexus, the worse BCVA, Superficial CD (r - 0,27, p = 0,03) and Deep CD (r - 0,29, p = 0,02). Media FAZ pre-treatment was 0,30 mm2 (IQR 0,23), with enlargement to 0,37 mm2 (IQR 0,32) (p = 0,01) post-treatment. Preservation of External Limiting Membrane/ Ellipsoid Zone (ELM/EZ) was seen in 60% of subjects (n = 37). The majority had grade 3 macular ischemia. Variables that best explain visual results were, baseline visual acuity (p = 0,01), pre-treatment CRT (p = 0,02) and pretreatment foveal superficial CD (p = 0,02). CONCLUSIONS Variables that best explain final vision after anti-VEGF were baseline visual acuity, CRT and foveal superficial CD.

Abstract
A 5-year-old Caucasian male with a history nonaccidental injury (NAI) at age 1 presented with new onset no light perception in the left eye due to a closed funnel retinal detachment. The right eye showed optic nerve pallor, peripheral vascular attenuation, and leakage. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) revealed significant parafoveal attenuation of the superficial vascular plexus, intermediate capillary plexus, and the deep capillary plexus. This correlated with inner and middle retinal layer thinning temporal to the fovea and preservation of the ellipsoid zone. The peripapillary vascular plexus was preserved. Laser photocoagulation was performed to the nonperfused peripheral retina and intravitreal bevacizumab was injected. OCTA may be used in patients with NAI to characterize macular ischemia changes. Attenuation of the superficial, intermediate, and deep capillary plexuses in our patient may represent chronic ischemic retinal changes that arise from traumatic injury to the vitreoretinal interface and inner retina in NAI.

Abstract
This retrospective study aimed to investigate macular microvascular alterations after successful scleral buckling (SB) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). Nineteen eyes with macula-on RRD and 18 eyes with macula-off RRD were included. In all cases, an encircling band was placed. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was performed at baseline and postoperatively. Changes in the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area and vessel density (VD) of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP) were the primary outcomes. Correlations between OCTA findings and clinical variables were considered secondary outcomes. In both the macula-on and macula-off groups, the FAZ area was comparable with controls. In the macula-on group, VD in the whole SCP was lower compared with controls at both baseline (p < 0.001) and 6 months (p = 0.03), but showed a significant increase after surgery (p = 0.004). In the macula-off group, postoperative VD in both whole SCP and whole DCP was lower compared with controls (p < 0.001). In the macula-on group, there was an inverse correlation between axial length increase and SCP VD change (r = −0.508; p = 0.03). These findings demonstrated microvascular alterations after SB for RRD. However, VD impairment seems to be mitigated after surgery. A greater increase in postoperative axial length was associated with a poorer VD outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The goal of this study was to investigate macular microvascular changes using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) at one year after successful rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) surgery. METHODS We performed a cross-section study including RRD treated by pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with or without scleral buckling and SF6 tamponade. After 12 months, DRI-Triton SS-OCTA was performed. Superficial and deep retinal capillary plexuses (SCP and DCP), choriocapillaris (CC) vessel density (VD), and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) morphology were analyzed. Results were compared with the unaffected contralateral eye. RESULTS Sixty eyes were included. We observed an increase in VD in the central area of both the SCP and DCP in macula-off eyes treated with PPV + SB and in the SCP of macula-off eyes treated with PPV. Macula-off eyes had a diminished VD for both plexuses in the superior quadrant and in the SCP inferior quadrant in those treated with PPV + SB. The CC flow was diminished in the temporal quadrant of macular-off eyes treated with PPV + SB. Healthy eyes presented higher diameter values than macula-off eyes treated with PPV + SB. FAZ horizontal and vertical diameters were smaller in patients with macula-off RRD vs. macula-on RRD and control groups. CONCLUSION Macular vascularity remains almost unchanged one year after successful RRD surgery, irrespective of the surgical technique or prior macular status.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to determine whether there are retinal microvascular changes in patients with celiac disease (CD). METHODS A total of 30 patients with CD (group 1) and 30 healthy controls (group 2) were included in this study. AngioVue optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) device was used to evaluate the retinal microvascular structure. RESULTS Some of the values of both optic nerve head (ONH) vessel density (VD) and radial peripapillary capillary VDs were found to be significantly lower in group 1 than in group 2. These 2 groups were similar except for one of the parameters of superficial capillary plexus VD (SCP-VD), whereas it was found that deep capillary plexus VD (DCP-VD) was lower in group 1 than in group 2 except for the foveal area. CONCLUSION It was determined that some VDs obtained from the ONH and DCP-VD obtained from most areas of the macular region were significantly lower.

Abstract
We examined the vessel density (VD) of the deep capillary plexus (DCP) and choriocapillaris plexus (CCP) by optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography in eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, which had similar amounts of detached and nondetached areas in the macula region, and then determined the morphology by OCT until 6 months after surgery. A total of 13 eyes of 13 patients whose average age was 55.8 ± 12.3 years and were successfully treated were enrolled in this study. Throughout the postoperative period, the VD of the DCP in the detached area decreased significantly compared to that in the nondetached area. Conversely, there was no significant difference in the VD of the CCP between the detached and the nondetached areas. The ratio of VD of both the DCP and CCP in the detached area to the in the nondetached area did not show significant changes during the follow-up period of 6 months. The ratio of VD of the DCP in the detached area to that in the nondetached area correlated significantly with the ratio of the external limiting membrane−ellipsoid zone (r = 0.57, p < 0.001) and ellipsoid zone−retinal pigment epithelium (r = 0.39, p < 0.001) thickness in the detached area to that in the nondetached area. A well-preserved DCP blood flow could result in the restoration of the outer retina.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the retinal vasculature of the macula and optic disc in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS The right eyes of 70 COPD patients and 71 healthy individuals were evaluated. These patients had moderate airflow limitation and mean PO2 of 60 mmHg, and their average age was less than 60 years. Superficial and deep capillary plexus vascular densities, foveal avascular zone (FAZ) width, and optic disc parameters were measured with OCTA. In addition, the correlation between the PO2 level in COPD patients and superficial, deep, and peripapillary vascular densities and FAZ was examined in the study. RESULTS The COPD group had a significant decrease in the vascular density in the superficial (fovea [p = 0.019]; parafovea [p = 0.013]; and perifovea [p = 0.001]) and deep capillary plexus (fovea [p = 0.028]; parafovea [p = 0.005]; and perifovea [p = 0.002]). Also, the enlargement of the FAZ (p = 0.002) and a decrease in the peripapillary vascular density (p = 0.006) were observed in the COPD group. There was a positive correlation between PO2 level and superficial, deep, and peripapillary vascular densities in COPD patients and a negative correlation with FAZ (r = 0.559-0.900). CONCLUSION Hypercapnia, respiratory acidosis, and chronic hypoxia associated with COPD may affect the macula and optic nerve, resulting in a serious decrease in vascular density, and OCTA can be a very important tool in the follow-up and treatment of these patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE Using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), we sought to determine whether there are retinal microvascular changes in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). METHOD The study included 56 patients diagnosed with OSAS by polysomnography [21 patients with mild OSAS (group 1), 14 with moderate OSAS (group 2) and 21 with severe OSAS (group 3)], and 26 healthy individuals as a control group (group 4). The vascular densities of the superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus of the retinal segmentations, together with the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) width, were measured for all participants, using OCTA. RESULT Compared with the control group, vascular densitiy in whole image of superficial capillary plexus were found to be significantly lower in group 2. In addition, vascular densitiy in fovea region of superficial capillary plexus was significantly lower in group 1 than the control group. In deep capillary plexus, vascular densitiy of whole image, superior hemi and nasal regions were found to be significantly lower in group 2 and group 3 compared with the control group. Parafoveal region in group 3 had significantly lower vascular densities than the controls. A significantly larger FAZ was also found in group 1 and group 3 in the deep capillary plexus, compared with the controls. CONCLUSION We detected smaller vascular densities in both the superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus and a larger deep capillary plexus FAZ in OSAS patients. Therefore, OCTA may be useful as a non-invasive method to understand the systemic effects of OSAS.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate capillaries perfusion and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness diurnal changes of macular/optic disc regions among participants with or without obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea (OSA) using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS In this study, we enrolled a cohort of 35 participants including 14 patients with mild-to-moderate OSA, 12 patients with severe OSA, and 9 healthy individuals. All participants had Berlin questionnaire filled. At 20:00 and 6:30, right before and after the polysomnography examination, a comprehensive ocular examination was conducted. The systemic and ocular clinical characteristics were collected, and OCTA scans were performed repeatedly. Blood flow and RNFL thickness parameters were then exported using built-in software and analyzed accordingly. RESULTS After sleep, the overall vessel density (VD) variables, especially macular and choriocapillaris VDs, were relatively comparative and stable. One exception was the RPC vessel density at the inside-disc region with a decreasing trend in the mild-to-moderate group (p=0.023). RNFL changes before and after sleep in the nasal-inferior and peripapillary region were statistically significant (p=0.003; p=0.043) among three groups. And multiple testing correction verified the significant difference in diurnal changes between the mild-to-moderate group and the control group in pairwise comparisons (p=0.006; p=0.02). CONCLUSIONS The changes of imperceptible blood flow and RNFL thickness overnight around optic disc areas could be observed in OSA patients. Despite physiological fluctuations, aberrant diurnal changes might be useful for identifying a decrease in micro-environmental stability associated with the development of various ocular diseases such as glaucoma. Other VD variables, especially macular and choriocapillaris VDs, are relatively stable in eyes of patients having OSA with different severity.

Abstract
Purpose We propose a deep learning-based image reconstruction algorithm to produce high-resolution optical coherence tomographic angiograms (OCTA) of the intermediate capillary plexus (ICP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP). Methods In this study, 6-mm × 6-mm macular scans with a 400 × 400 A-line sampling density and 3-mm × 3-mm scans with a 304 × 304 A-line sampling density were acquired on one or both eyes of 180 participants (including 230 eyes with diabetic retinopathy and 44 healthy controls) using a 70-kHz commercial OCT system (RTVue-XR; Optovue, Inc., Fremont, California, USA). Projection-resolved OCTA algorithm removed projection artifacts in voxel. ICP and DCP angiograms were generated by maximum projection of the OCTA signal within the respective plexus. We proposed a deep learning-based method, which receives inputs from registered 3-mm × 3-mm ICP and DCP angiograms with proper sampling density as the ground truth reference to reconstruct 6-mm × 6-mm high-resolution ICP and DCP en face OCTA. We applied the same network on 3-mm × 3-mm angiograms to enhance these images further. We evaluated the reconstructed 3-mm × 3-mm and 6-mm × 6-mm angiograms based on vascular connectivity, Weber contrast, false flow signal (flow signal erroneously generated from background), and the noise intensity in the foveal avascular zone. Results Compared to the originals, the Deep Capillary Angiogram Reconstruction Network (DCARnet)-enhanced 6-mm × 6-mm angiograms had significantly reduced noise intensity (ICP, 7.38 ± 25.22, P < 0.001; DCP, 11.20 ± 22.52, P < 0.001), improved vascular connectivity (ICP, 0.95 ± 0.01, P < 0.001; DCP, 0.96 ± 0.01, P < 0.001), and enhanced Weber contrast (ICP, 4.25 ± 0.10, P < 0.001; DCP, 3.84 ± 0.84, P < 0.001), without generating false flow signal when noise intensity lower than 650. The DCARnet-enhanced 3-mm × 3-mm angiograms also reduced noise, improved connectivity, and enhanced Weber contrast in 3-mm × 3-mm ICP and DCP angiograms from 101 eyes. In addition, DCARnet preserved the appearance of the dilated vessels in the reconstructed angiograms in diabetic eyes. Conclusions DCARnet can enhance 3-mm × 3-mm and 6-mm × 6-mm ICP and DCP angiogram image quality without introducing artifacts. Translational Relevance The enhanced 6-mm × 6-mm angiograms may be easier for clinicians to interpret qualitatively.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the effects of ageing and signal strength index (SSI) on vessel density (VD) measurements of the radial peripapillary capillaries (RPC) in the optic disc, the retinal superficial (SCP) and deep (DCP) capillary plexi and the choriocapillaris (CC) of the macular area using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) imaging. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 138 eyes from 77 healthy participants. High-definition (HD) disc Angio scan (4.5X4.5 mm) and HD Angio retina scan (6X6 mm) were acquired. Whole image (WI) VDs, inside disc (ID) VD and global and hemifield peripapillary RPC VDs were evaluated from the Angio Disc scans. Global and hemifield VD for the SCP, DCP and CC slab in the macula area were also recorded across different age groups. RESULTS Mean age was 48.2 ± 15.0 years (range 25-82 years). Signal strength index (SSI) was 71.6 ± 7.6 in the macula and 74.6 ± 9.2 in the disc OCT-A image. VD for both SCP and DCP decreased by 0.084% and 0.188%/year (both p < 0.001). WI VD and ID VD also decreased by 0.037%/year (p = 0.005) and 0.092%/year (p < 0.001). Peripapillary RPC VD did not change with age or SSI. The effect of SSI was significant in SCP, DCP, WI RPC, ID RPC and CC VD. In the generalized estimating equation model testing for both SSI and age, SSI remained significant against SCP, DCP and ID RPC. CONCLUSION With ageing, a decrease in VD in the SCP, DCP, WI and ID RPC, as well as in SSI, is seen. SSI and age are associated with VD changes, but only SSI is the significant variable that explains the variation in the retina microvasculature in the macula and the optic disc in multivariate analysis. In the CC, a larger SSI was associated with a lower VD. These findings underscore the importance of controlling for SSI in future studies using OCT-A.

Abstract
Objectives: In the current study, we aimed to investigate retinal vascular density and blood flow changes in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) (AngioVue Avanti, Optovue). Methods: Thirty eyes of 30 patients with COPD and 30 eyes of 30 healthy controls were evaluated with OCTA. Foveal and parafoveal vessel density, inner retinal and choriocapillary flow area, and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area were measured and compared between the groups. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed in the outer retinal flow area and choriocapillary flow area measurements between the groups (p=0.609 and p=0.162, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference in FAZ and FAZ perimeter values between the groups (p=0.725 and p=0.820, respectively). Vascular density measurements in the superficial foveal and parafoveal areas were not statistically significantly different between the groups (p>0.05, for all). Deep parafoveal vascular density values of the COPD group were statistically significantly lower than the control group in all investigated areas except the superior and inferior quadrants. Conclusion: The results of our study demonstrated for the first time that vascular density decreased in the parafoveal area due to COPD-related hypoxemia and endothelial dysfunction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the distribution of capillary non-perfusion (CNP) in superficial and deep capillary plexuses (SCP and DCP) in eyes with diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS In this retrospective case series, macular optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images were obtained from eyes with DR without diabetic macular edema (DME). The area of CNP in SCP and DCP was delineated using an automated approach after excluding the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and major retinal vessels. The distribution and spatial correlation of the CNP in each layer were analyzed. RESULTS Forty-three eyes of 27 patients with DR with a mean age of 59.10 ± 9.05 years were included. The mean CNP area in SCP was statistically significantly higher than DCP (0.722 ± 0.437 mm2 vs. 0.184 ± 0.145 mm2 , respectively, p < .001). There was a statistically significant association between mean BCVA (0.28 ± 0.21 logMAR) and CNP area in DCP (p = .01). After automated subtraction of CNP areas in DCP from SCP, 25.43 ± 15.05% of CNP areas in the DCP had co-localized CNP areas in SCP. The CNP percentage was statistically significantly different between the concentric rings on foveal center, both in SCP and in DCP (both p < .001) showing a decreasing trend from the outer ring toward the center. CONCLUSION In DR, SCP is more ischemic than DCP. This is in contrast to the previously described oxygenation-dependent ischemic cascade following acute retinal vascular occlusions. This study provides further insight into the retinal ischemia in DR.

Abstract
PRECIS Macular superficial capillary plexus (SCP) vessel density is more informative than deep capillary plexus (DCP) vessel density for the detection of glaucoma. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to characterize optical coherence tomography angiography macular SCP and projection-resolved DCP vessel densities and compare their diagnostic accuracies with ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness in healthy, glaucoma suspect, and glaucoma eyes. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-eight eyes of 44 healthy subjects, 26 eyes of 16 preperimetric glaucoma suspects, and 161 eyes of 124 glaucoma patients from the Diagnostics Innovations in Glaucoma Study with good quality high-density 6×6 mm2 macula optical coherence tomography angiography images were included. The diagnostic accuracy of SCP vessel density, projection-resolved DCP vessel density and GCC thickness were compared among groups. RESULTS Mean whole image vessel density (wiVD; % of area occupied by vessels containing flowing blood) in the SCP layer was highest in healthy eyes (49.7%), followed by glaucoma suspect eyes (46.0%), and glaucoma eyes (40.9%) (P<0.001). Mean wiVD in the DCP layer was similar in healthy (50.6%), glaucoma suspect (47.3%), and glaucoma eyes (45.7%) (P=0.925). Diagnostic accuracy of both GCC thickness and SCP wiVD was significantly higher than DCP wiVD for classifying healthy and glaucoma eyes [adjusted area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (95% confidence interval): GCC=0.86 (0.72, 0.94), SCP=0.80 (0.66, 0.91) and DCP=0.44 (0.30, 0.57)] (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS SCP vessel densities have better diagnostic accuracy for detecting glaucoma than DCP vessel densities. Although the diagnostic accuracy of the macula SCP is relatively modest, it is more informative than the DCP.

Abstract
AIM To analyze microcirculatory abnormalities, central avascular area and capillary density in OCT-angiography in retinal venous occlusions (RVO). METHODS This is a descriptive study of 35 patients (35 eyes) with RVO who consulted at the ophthalmology department of Farhat Hached Hospital in Sousse between January 2014 and July 2018. The diagnosis of retinal venous occlusion was established on clinical examination, fundus photography and fluorescein angiography. All patients underwent OCT-angiography and OCT B-scan. RESULTS Our study includes a total of 35 patients (35 eyes). Of these patients, 20 (57.1%) had branch retinal vein occlusion and 15 (42.8%) had central retinal vein occlusion. The loss or rarefaction of the capillary plexus concerned the deep capillary plexus (DCP) more than the superficial one (SCP). This rarefaction was observed in 25 eyes (71.42%) in both DCP and SCP. The widening of the central avascular zone and the rupture of the peri-foveolar anastomotic mesh were better or as visible as fluorescein angiography. Vascular tortuosity was easy to analyze and was more evident in the SCP than the DCP. Twenty-six (74.28%) patients had vascular tortuosity in DCP and 30 patients (85.71%) had this vascular tortuosity in SCP. Capillary dilatation and microaneurysms were better visible in the DCP than the SCP. These vascular abnormalities were found in 26 cases (74.28%) in the DCP and in 17 cases (48.57%) in the SCP. CONCLUSIONS OCT-A is a non-invasive examination that allows very precise analysis and follow-up of both macular edema and superficial and deep capillary plexus architecture during retinal vein occlusions.

Abstract
Objectives To evaluate the changes in macular vessel density after treatment with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors in center-involving diabetic macular edema (DME) and to compare these changes between anatomical responders and non-responders. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 22 eyes with center-involving DME. All eyes had 3 consecutive administrations of VEGF inhibitors. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) of the macula with manual adjustment of segmentation lines were performed at baseline and after treatment. Vessel density in the central and parafoveal regions of the superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP/DCP) were measured at baseline and after treatment. Vessel density and changes therein were compared between anatomical responders and non-responders as defined by changes in central subfield thickness (CST). Results Overall, there were no significant differences in vessel density in the central and parafoveal regions of the SCP and DCP after treatment compared to baseline. After categorization by anatomical response, 12 eyes were responders (CST decreased by 173.7±47.7 μm) and 10 eyes were non-responders (CST increased by 20.8±38.9 μm) (p<0.0001). There were no corresponding significant differences between responders and non-responders in SCP and DCP vessel density or changes therein after treatment. Conclusion There were no significant changes in macular vessel density after the early stages of VEGF inhibitor treatment for DME, and there was no relationship with the anatomical response. The effect of VEGF inhibitors in DME treatment may not be related to increasing vessel density.

Abstract
Background Visual recovery following macula involving rhegmatogenous retinal detachment remains poorly understood. The aim of this work is to correlate the functional and the anatomical changes in retinal vasculature in the foveal avascular zone using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) after successful retinal reattachment repair and correlate this data with retinal thickness and post-operative visual recovery. Methods A prospective, comparative observational study of 28 eyes of 14 patients with 14 eyes undergoing macula off retinal detachment repair with pars plana vitrectomy, endo-laser and silicone oil-based tamponade compared with 14 fellow healthy eyes at 1, 6 and 12 weeks post-operative period. The study was conducted at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology, Giza, Egypt between February 2018 and August 2018. Results The foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area in the patients group was not significantly different compared to the control group and was found to be negatively correlated with the central retinal thickness in both the study and control group. The superficial capillary plexus (SCP) area at the FAZ was significantly larger than the deep capillary plexus (DCP) area at the FAZ in both the study and control group over the follow-up period. The DCP area at the FAZ was significantly larger at the 3rd follow-up than the 1st follow-up. The SCP FAZ area was significantly larger than the DCP FAZ area in both the study and control group over the follow-up period. BCVA was found to be negatively correlated to the retinal thickness of the temporal 3 mm paracentral quadrant with no correlation with central foveal thickness (CFT) and the FAZ area. Conclusion Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCTA are valuable noninvasive imaging tools to monitor and predict the structural changes at the foveal avascular zone during the recovery phase after successful retinal reattachment involving macula.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area and retinal vascular density (VD) in patients with psoriasis according to disease severity using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS Twenty-seven patients with mild psoriasis (Group 1), 28 with moderate to severe psoriasis (Group 2) and 30 healthy controls (Group 3) were evaluated with OCTA. Foveal and parafoveal VD and FAZ area were measured and compared. RESULTS FAZ values were significantly higher in Group 2 (0.20 ± 0.1, 0.31 ± 0.07, 0.20 ± 0.09; P < .001, respectively.). The mean VD value were significantly lower in the deep capillary plexus in parafoveal area in Group 2 (35.5 ± 8.7, 28.7 ± 4.6, 35.0 ± 3.5; P < .001, respectively.). These changes showed significant correlation with Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores of patients. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that OCTA may have a future role as alert of potentially more severe disease in cases clinically classified as mild disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE To study the prevalence of resolved paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) lesions in fellow eyes of patients with unilateral retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and eyes of healthy individuals. METHODS This case-control observational study took place in a referral university medical centre. Forty-five (17 males, 28 females, 64.7 ± 10.8 years) patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), 21 (17 males, 4 females, 68.8 ± 11.2 years) patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and 57 healthy individuals (25 males, 32 females, 67.4 ± 10.5 years) were included. Presence of resolved PAMM lesions was evaluated by reviewing cross-sectional scans of 8-mm optical coherence tomography angiography protocol. Resolved PAMM lesion was defined as inner nuclear layer thinning with outer plexiform layer elevation. RESULTS Resolved PAMM lesions were found in 32/45 (71.1%) and 15/21 (71.4%) of BRVO and CRVO patients, respectively. In healthy volunteers, resolved PAMM lesions were found in 11/57 (19.3%) individuals with bilateral involvement in 8 individuals (72.7%). RVO patients demonstrated the presence of resolved PAMM lesions in fellow eye significantly more frequently than healthy individuals (odds ratio (OR) 10.6, p < 0.001, 95% CI 4.5-24.6). OR for the presence of large resolved PAMM lesions in BRVO patients and CRVO patients versus healthy individual was 12.1 (p = 0.02, 95% CI 1.5-100.9) and 22.4 (p = 0.005, 95% CI 2.5-200.6), respectively. CONCLUSION Resolved PAMM lesions defined as inner nuclear layer thinning associated with outer plexiform layer elevation are highly prevalent in fellow eyes of patients with unilateral RVO. Resolved PAMM lesions may have an association with RVO.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose was to evaluate retinal vascular parameters by optical coherence tomography angiography in β-thalassemia major patients. METHODS Thirty-three patients with β-thalassemia major (study group) and 29 healthy children (control group) were enrolled in the study. All subjects underwent a complete ocular examination. The mean foveal avascular zone, non-flow area, foveal avascular zone perimeter, acircularity index of foveal avascular zone, foveal density, the superficial capillary plexus, and deep capillary plexus were scanned using 6 × 6 mm optical coherence tomography angiography scans centered on the macula. Superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus were also scanned centered on the optic disk. We collected data on histories of patients, and hemoglobin and ferritin were also studied from both groups. RESULTS The mean age was 13.85 ± 4.69 years (range: 4-21 years) in β-thalassemia major group and 12.59 ± 3.66 years (range: 6-18 years) in the control group. The mean foveal avascular zone value was 0.265 ± 0.11 mm2 in the study group and 0.296 ± 0.12 mm2 in the control group. The mean non-flow area value was 0.468 ± 0.12 mm2 in the study group and 0.479 ± 0.14 mm2 in the control group (p > 0.05). Differences in the mean values for foveal density and acircularity index were statistically significant between the study group and control group (p < 0.05, p = 0.026, and p = 0.026, respectively). Superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus were not a significant difference between the study and control groups in 6 × 6 mm scans on macula and 4.5 × 4.5 mm scans on optic disk area (p > 0.05). Acircularity index was negatively correlated (r = -0.292, p = 0.026), and foveal density was positively correlated with hemoglobin (r = 0.292, p = 0.026). CONCLUSION By using optical coherence tomography angiography, we detected foveal microvascular changes in young β-thalassemia patients before significant ocular anomalies development.

Abstract
The results of 1-year follow-up with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) of 3 patients with macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel 2) were evaluated. The 3X3 mm OCTA imaging was performed in January 2017 and February 2018. The superficial and deep capillary plexus vascular density changes of the whole area, the parafoveal temporal and parafoveal nasal areas were examined. The mean whole, parafoveal temporal, and parafoveal nasal vessel densities at superficial capillary plexus were 51.31, 50.39, 54.57 at baseline and 49.93, 46.79, 51.83 at 1-year follow-up, respectively. The mean whole, parafoveal temporal and parafoveal nasal vessel densities at deep capillary plexus were 59.06, 59.05, 63.39 at baseline and 52.18, 54.68, 57.9 at 1-year follow-up, respectively. In this case series, it was shown quantitatively that vessel densities of MacTel2 patients markedly decreased over time, more pronounced in the deep capillary plexus.

Abstract
Background/aim The aim of the current study was to evaluate the correlation between the integrity of the outer retinal layers on optical coherence tomography (OCT) and objective parameters of retinal microvascular perfusion on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Materials and methods A total of 105 eyes of 54 diabetic patients were included in the study. Integrity of the outer retinal layers including the external limiting membrane (ELM), ellipsoid zone (EZ), and interdigitation zone (IZ) was assessed by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. The foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area and vessel density (VD) measurements in the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP) in all the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) sectors were evaluated by OCTA. Associations between the quantitative measurement of the FAZ and retinal VD measurements and outer retinal disruptions were evaluated. Results The FAZ area was correlated with outer retinal layer disruption both in the superficial plexus (r = 0.244, 0.228, 0.212, P = 0.013, 0.02, 0.031 for the ELM, EZ, and IZ, respectively) and the deep capillary plexus (r = 0.298, 0.234, 0.197, P = 0.002, 0.019, 0.048 for the ELM, EZ, and IZ, respectively). A significant relationship was also found between the VD measurements in the SCP and DCP in ETDRS sectors and the outer retinal layers disruption. Conclusion The results of the current study show a significant relationship between the quantitative OCTA parameters and the integrity of the outer retinal layers. This finding reveals a correlation between retinal capillary nonperfusion and outer retinal disruption in eyes with diabetic retinopathy.

Abstract
Purpose: To quantify and compare the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and the whole, parafoveal and foveal vessel density of superficial (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP) in amblyopic eyes of adults and age-matched controls.Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 52 eyes from 34 subjects aged 18 to 45 years. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was performed to all participants and SCP, DCP and FAZ were evaluated. SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 23 was used for data analysis.Results: Eighteen of 34 subjects (52,9%) were amblyopic and 16 (47,1%) of them controlled. Mean subject age was 31.2 years in the amblyopia group and 28.3 years in the control group. The mean FAZ measurements were 0.28 ± 0.08 in amblyopic eyes, 0.29 ± 0.08 in fellow eyes and 0.3 ± 0.11 in control eyes. The whole, foveal and parafoveal vessel density of SCP in both 3x3-mm and 6x6-mm scans were not statistically different in amblyopic eyes, fellow eyes and control eyes. In 6x6-mm scans, the whole, and parafoveal vessel density of DCP were significantly lower in amblyopic eyes than controls. There was no statistically significant difference in 3x3-mm scans about DCP.Conclusion: OCTA revealed lower vessel density in DCP of amblyopic eyes than fellow eyes and controls in adults.

Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore macula vessel density and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) parameters in exfoliation glaucoma (XFG) compared to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods This was a cross-sectional observational study. Twenty-six XFG and 28 POAG patients with comparable visual field defects on Humphrey 24-2 and 10-2 perimetries were recruited. OCTA scans (3 × 3 mm) centered on the fovea were obtained. Built-in software was used to measure superficial capillary plexus (SCP) vessel density at different quadrants of the macula. Custom software was then used to create a full-thickness image. The FAZ was manually delineated, and large vessels were removed. Vessel density in eight concentric rings with increments of 200-μm diameters from the delineated FAZ was measured. FAZ parameters were calculated using the custom software. Results SCP density was significantly lower in the superior (mean difference [MD] = -4.32, 95% confidence interval [CI] = -7.02, -1.61, P = 0.003) and nasal (MD = -3.00, 95% CI = 05.22, -0.77, P = 0.010) quadrants in XFG versus POAG. SCP vessel density using the concentric ring approach revealed significantly decreased values at all eight rings in XFG versus POAG. In the full-thickness analysis, density was significantly less in the XFG group in all rings except the initial 200 μm. No significant differences existed in FAZ parameters between the groups. Conclusions Despite the presence of comparable central visual field defects, the macula vessel density was predominately lower in XFG compared with POAG in our sample of patients. Further studies are warranted to investigate the consistency of our results.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide values of retinal vessel density (VD) in the three retinal capillary plexuses, foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, and retinal layer thickness in a cohort of healthy subjects. METHODS The optical coherence tomography angiography maps of 148 eyes of 84 healthy subjects, aged 22 to 76 years, were analyzed for measuring VD of the retinal capillary plexuses, using the Optovue device comprising a projection artifact removal algorithm. Foveal avascular zone metrics were measured, and the relationship between optical coherence tomography angiography findings and age, sex, and image quality was studied. RESULTS The deep capillary plexus showed the lowest VD (31.6% ± 4.4%) in all macular areas and age groups compared with the superficial vascular plexus (47.8% ± 2.8%) and intermediate capillary plexus (45.4% ± 4.2%). The mean VD decreased by 0.06%, 0.06%, and 0.08% per year, respectively, in the superficial vascular plexus, intermediate capillary plexus, and deep capillary plexus. Mean FAZ area, FAZ acircularity index, and capillary density in a 300-µm area around the FAZ were 0.25 ± 0.1 mm, 1.1 ± 0.05, and 50.8 ± 3.4%, respectively. The yearly increase in FAZ area was 0.003 mm (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The deep capillary plexus, a single monoplanar capillary plexus located in the outer plexiform layer, has the lowest VD, a significant finding that might be used to evaluate retinal vascular diseases. Vascular density decreased with age in the three capillary plexuses.

Abstract
PURPOSE Diabetic retinopathy (DR) can lead to significant vision loss and blindness and has a particularly high prevalence in patients with type 1 diabetes (DM1). In this study, we investigate quantitative differences in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) data between DM1 patients with no or mild signs of retinopathy and non-diabetic subjects. METHODS Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) imaging was performed on DM1 patients with no or mild nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and healthy, age-matched controls. Parafoveal vessel density and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area in the deep capillary plexus (DCP) and superficial capillary plexus (SCP) were calculated with automated quantification software and compared between patient cohorts. RESULTS A significant decrease in parafoveal vessel density was seen in the DCP of DM1 patients compared to non-diabetic controls (57.0 ± 3.3% versus 60.7 ± 2.4%, p < 0.001). There was no significant difference in SCP parafoveal vessel density, DCP FAZ area, or SCP FAZ area between cohorts. CONCLUSION M1 patients with no or mild signs of retinopathy have reduced parafoveal vessel density in the DCP on OCTA when compared to non-diabetic controls. These OCTA findings suggest that parafoveal capillary nonperfusion is an early process in DM1-related retinal changes and occurs initially at the level of the DCP. Further investigation is needed to understand the prognostic role of these vascular changes.
