Abstract
Introduction The purpose of this study was to determine the association between kisspeptin levels and obesity in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or in healthy controls and to explore the correlation between levels of kisspeptin and various endocrine and metabolic indices in each group.Methods From August 2020 to December 2021, the clinical data of 78 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and 78 healthy individuals were collected. The two groups were further divided into obese and non-obese groups based on a BMI cutoff of 25. Serum kisspeptin levels were measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Pearson's correlation analysis was used to determine the correlation between PCOS and kisspeptin levels.Results The weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC), estradiol (E2), and testosterone (T) of the obese PCOS group were significantly higher than those of the study group (p < .05). WC, kisspeptin, triglycerides (TG), glucose (GLU), alanine amiotransferase (ALT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), uric acid (UA), E2, luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin (PRL), and T in the non-obese PCOS group were higher than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (p < .05). Levels of E2 and TG in the obese PCOS group were significantly higher than those in the non-obese PCOS group (p < .05). Kisspeptin levels in the PCOS group exhibited a significant positive correlation with LH, T, and AMH levels; kisspeptin level positively correlated with T in the non-obese PCOS group and with anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in the obese PCOS group.Conclusion Serum kisspeptin levels are associated with hormone levels in patients with PCOS. Kisspeptin correlates with distinct biochemical indices in obese versus non-obese groups, indicating that kisspeptin may play a role in the prognostication, treatment, and clinical evaluation of patients with varying BMI.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) exposure on glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) of rat insulinoma (INS-1) cells and the potential protective effects of procyanidins (PC). The effects of PFOS and/or PC on GSIS of INS-1 cells were investigated after 48 h of exposure (protein level: insulin; gene level: glucose transporter 2 (Glut2), glucokinase (Gck), and insulin). Subsequently, the effects of exposure on the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) activity were measured. Compared to the control group, PFOS exposure (12.5, 25, and 50 μM) for 48 h had no significant effect on the viability of INS-1 cells. PFOS exposure (50 μM) could reduce the level of insulin secretion and reduce the relative mRNA expression levels of Glut2, Gck, and insulin. It is worth noting that PC could partially reverse the damaging effect caused by PFOS. Significantly, there was an increase in ROS after exposure to PFOS and a decline after PC intervention. PFOS could affect the normal physiological function of GSIS in INS-1 cells. PC, a plant natural product, could effectively alleviate the damage caused by PFOS by inhibiting ROS activity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the perinatal outcome of postpartum hypertension in pregnant women with gestational diabetes (GDM). METHODS A total of 100 puerperae who gave birth in our hospital from March 2018 to January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 50 patients were puerperae with postpartum hypertension (experimental group), and 50 puerperae had normal postpartum blood pressure (control group). Before delivery, fasting, postprandial and bedtime blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and urine glucose were compared between the two groups. RESULTS Before delivery, the experimental group observed significantly higher fasting, postprandial, and bedtime blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and urine glucose than the control group (P<0.05). A notable decline in natural delivery rate was witnessed in the experimental group (P<0.05). The two groups presented no significant differences in neonatal outcomes, neonatal blood glucose and blood pressure, maternal blood pressure at 30 weeks and 34 weeks of pregnancy, and blood lipid levels during pregnancy (P>0.05). CONCLUSION Postpartum hypertension in pregnant women with GDM results in a low probability of natural birth and it has a slight impact on the fetus.

Abstract
Obese sheep were used to assess the effects of palmitoleic (C16:1 cis-9) acid infusion on lipogenesis and circulating insulin levels. Infusion of 10 mg/kg body weight (BW)/day C16:1 intravenously in obese sheep reduced (P<0.01) weight gain by 77%. Serum palmitoleic levels increased (P<0.05) in a linear manner with increasing levels of C16:1 infusion. Cis-11 vaccenic (C18:1 cis-11) acid, a known elongation product of palmitoleic acid, was also elevated (P<0.05) in serum after 14 days and 21 days of infusion. Plasma insulin levels were lower (P<0.05) (10 mg/kg BW/day C16:1) than controls (0 mg/kg BW/day C16:1) at 14 days and 28 days of infusion. Infusion of C16:1 resulted in linear increases in tissue concentrations of palmitoleic, cis-11 vaccenic, eicosapentaenoic, and docosapentaenoic acids in a dose-dependent manner. Total lipid content of the semitendinosus (ST) muscle and mesenteric adipose tissue was reduced (P<0.01) in both 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg BW C16:1 dose levels. Total lipid content and mean adipocyte size in the longissimus muscle was reduced (P<0.05) in the 10 mg/kg BW C16:1 dose level only, whereas total lipid content and adipocyte size of the subcutaneous adipose tissue was not altered. Total lipid content of the liver was also unchanged with C16:1 infusion. Palmitoleic acid infusion upregulated (P<0.05) acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), fatty acid elongase-6 (ELOVL6), and Protein kinase, AMP-activated, alpha 1 catalytic subunit, transcript variant 1 (AMPK) mRNA expressions in liver, subcutaneous adipose, and ST muscle compared to the controls. However, mRNA expression of glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1b (CPT1B) differed between tissues. In the subcutaneous adipose and liver, C16:1 infusion upregulated (P<0.05) GLUT4 and CPT1B, whereas these genes were downregulated (P<0.05) in ST muscle with C16:1 infusion. These results show that C16:1 infusion for 28 days reduced weight gain, intramuscular adipocyte size and total lipid content, and circulating insulin levels. These changes appear to be mediated through alterations in expression of genes regulating glucose uptake and fatty acid oxidation specifically in the muscles.
